"One good strike…" he murmured to himself as he neared, swords glinting in the sunlight, muscles in his arms coiled to spring and strike once he was close. The beast moved forward towards him and he prepared to dive for the worm's throat until his foot suddenly sank deep into the sand, eyes widening as he felt his center of balance shifting. Trapped in sand to his knee he let out a gasp as he crashed hard onto his chest, swords skittering to the side. Glancing up, he found himself face to mandible with his quarry, the two seemingly having switched places of hunter and prey.

The Annual Eorzean Melon Crushing Contest!

It’s Moonfire Faire again, and you know what that means! Melon Crushing!

That’s right, it’s back! Come join our host, Miss Eorzea 2017 Kiera H as she hosts another wonderful melon crushing contest. No thighs will be denied! Any and all races are encouraged to come and participate!

The event will be run through /random. How it works is that you have “X” chances to reach “X” number, simulating the size of the melon and the effort taken to crush it. For example, the first round will be three chances to roll above 200. If you manage it on your first roll, fantastic! You do not have to roll anymore after that. 

We will be hosting it here at Hidden Falls <31,23> on August 25th 2024, at 10:00am PST / 1pm EST on Balmung server, Crystal DC. 

This is an all-ages event, so please act appropriately! 

The prize this year is, like always, bragging rights, the title of Melon Crushing Champion of Eorzea, as well as 250,000 gil !

a room i made for my theomocent alt, themed after a scholasticate dormitory room. this was as much as i could do with his gil, but i'm happy with it. i always try to make sure my builds have at least one good photo location, and in this case, i find the reflection from these stained glass panes over the scholasticate furniture very beautiful.

Celebrating 10 years of marriage together, the Covingtons have chosen to renew their vows to one another in the first public ceremony of their love following their original private elopement. A reception with food and drinks will follow at Shroudrose Teahouse & Speakeasy at Lavender Beds, Ward 5, Plot 58 on Balmung. Q: Do I have to be IC? A: No, you do not have to be IC or participate in any role-play, but please be mindful that this is an IC event, and be respectful to those who are role-playing and their immersion.

Q: Does my character have to know the couple IC? A: No! First dibs on the invitations will go to those close to Val and Faye, but you can consider this a public occasion. Anyone can attend, and if you can't find a reason for your character to be there IC, you can always attend OOC.

Q: I can only make it to the ceremony/reception, but not the other! A: That's perfectly fine! Both are not mandatory. Come and go as you need. The eternal bonding invitations are only necessary if you are attending the ceremony, so please do not request one if you will only be going to the reception.

Q: Do I have to be on Balmung? A: Unfortunately, due to the game's limitations on eternal bonding ceremonies, only characters on Balmung may attend the ceremony. However, characters on any world may still attend the reception at the teahouse following the ceremony.

Of Perfect Paintings

A few days, that is what he said it would take to create what he would consider one of his greatest masterpieces. For this wasn’t just any painting but it would serve as a memory, a memory that all would be able to see. Most of his artwork was never displayed or sold but instead some of his work was given to friends or kept in a corner. Never seeing the light of day again after he finished them.

He stood looking at his canvas for quite some time wearing a simple gray cotton shirt and black dress pants. Unlike other artists, Voss was clean, not even wasting a drop of paint that the man crafted himself, aside from those that gifted him a few sets. Close by was his faithful companion Vilkas who also had been watching the bastard for the past several hours.  “What do you think, did I capture their beauty?” Voss said looking down at the large dire wolf who only huffed and looked at him, “What.. Don’t give me that look.” He placed his paintbrush down sitting on the floor beside Vilkas. His right hand began running through the wolf’s copper colored fur, “Don’t worry old friend, she should be coming back soon. I miss her too bud.” 

It wasn’t like Oricila and Voss to be apart in fact you couldn’t have one without the other. Ever since their reunion they have been at each other's side but when the wind drifted words of a man similar to Rhoran, Oricila had to leave in search of finding if the tales were true. Vilkas, who had also been at Ori’s side since she was little, was left behind to keep Vilkas out of trouble, even though there was Umari to assist. Vilkas moved his head and rested it against the bastard’s leg whimpering at the very mention of Oricila, “Oi! You don’t start that now, we don’t cry over the women we love.”

Vilkas lifted his head and huffed once again giving him a stare as if Voss wasn’t crying the other night about the one that got away, “Don’t you judge me, I was drunk.” Voss said, looking away while his hand continued to pet Vilkas, “Alright boy, up.”  As he began dusting the dirt off his backside, a voice they missed soon filled the room.

“Don’t be giving my boy a hard time. He’s okay to give ya a hard one. You do it to us plenty.”

Oricila said as she entered the room with Mia at her side. Her eyes drifted towards the painting seeing two familiar faces, “I see you are still trying to win her back. Some things never changed.” The white fur dire wolf rushed tackling Vilkas, giving him quite the affection before laying beside him.

A soft sigh escaped the bastard’s lips, “Valeria passed away.” He brought a small box out from his dresser, handing it to Oricila, “We did the final send off a few days ago. She asked for one of my paintings and I felt this one would be perfect for her to hang in her home. Besides, there's no getting her back. Guess one can say the best man won for her.”

Silence claimed the beauty as she opened the box seeing the same leather bracelet she wore only this time there was an added charm. Her head lifted somewhat stunned by his words, “How is she?” She asked as she took off her old leather bracelet and replaced it with the new one.

“She is well, I mean she’s a mother now. Even said I could meet the kids.”

The very mention of Vahalia made Oricila’s jaw drop, “Come again? You sure you aren’t drunk and talking about a different woman now.”

Voss chuckled, “Same gal, same beauty, same woman who will probably plant another surprise on my ship. I was in shock too when she told me but if you don’t believe me you can ask Umari. She was there during our talk. So don’t worry I was a good boy the whole time you were gone. Were you able to find him by the way?” One again the bastard picked up his paint brush looking at the painting. Vahalia sitting on the chair with Valeria sitting on the arm of the chair close to her sister. He even perfected their faces offering Vahalia a bit of softness to her just so she could remember the joy she had with her sister by her side.

"Nothing yet.. There's just been the same talk of someone fitting his description but nothing that sticks and nothing about where they last seen him." Oricila sighed as she sunk into the seat watching Voss focus, "I don't think I ever seen you give up one of your paintings before I mean you gave them to family but the last time you gifted one to a friend was..." She stopped not even daring to mention the name as she looked down at the leather bracelet.

"Yeah well Valeria was one of us and maybe I still have a soft spot for Vahalia. Either way she saw the other painting I did and well now here I am. " He began adding a few final touches adding a few strokes here and there, dabbing a bit of paint there. Finally again he put his brush down and took a step back.

"So does she know.. Did you finally grow the balls to tell her?"

"She does but as I said the better man won. And even then we are different. She has duty and I have the bitch of a sea that keeps me from settling down. Maybe if I was of noble blood or something."

"I leave for a couple of moons and you're over here being... Good." Her facial expression didn't even hide the confusion on her face as she looked down at her two wolves, "Vilkas are you sure this is Voss?" The copper haired wolf gave a nod causing Oricila to smile, "Guess someone is a bit more mature now. Good boy Voss, only took you how many years?" "Oi! You say that now but wait until you meet the new guy we work for. Nothing has changed then." Voss snickered, "Don't worry I am sure he will love you and pretty sure you also may have to worry about him being drunk. He tends to lay it on thick but I think Umari has him tamed. Who knows." He took one final glance before writing his signature on the lower right corner of the canvas, "And finished."

Oricila just stared, "I leave and now we work for someone. Trading? Cargo? What are we working with?"

"A little bit of everything." Voss smirked, "Be prepared to get your bow and the wolves dirty. Don't worry Vilkas already met him. Welcome home Beauty! Surrounded by all the chaos that you've grown to love." He snickered before taking a seat beside her.

"Remind me to never ever leave you alone again. So when do I get to meet our new boss?"

"When we head back but hey maybe before you leave should say hello to Vahalia. Can distract her while I give her a parting gift."

Oricila shook her head a sigh of annoyance escaped her lips, "Voss.. how am I still friends with you. I should find a new crew to work with."

"And then you will be bored and wish you had me back." He wrapped his arms around her and placed a sloppy kiss against her cheek, "I'll go tell the crew you are back. Can't wait for Thierry to find out." He quickly shot up walking out his room and screamed for all to hear, "OUR BEAUTY IS HOME!" The sound of the crew cheering echoed through the wood of the ship and touched Oricila's ears. A low groan was heard as she sank into her seat, "Of all days." Vilkas and Mia both moved closer towards Oricila placing their head on each of her thigh trying to offer her comfort, " Thank you both. Well guess tonight is going to be a long one. Better get out there before Thierry comes barging in." She stood up walked towards the painting looking over the two sisters, "I can't imagine what you're going through Vahalia. To lose a sibling.. I couldn't imagine what would happen if I lost my brother..." Her eyes drifted towards Valeria, "You shown the bastard kindness. Made him see reason when I could not." With all the loud chatter and cheers coming from outside it was enough to drown out the sounds inside the room. She wasn't there for the final sendoff and like every other crew member did and Voss, Oricila let out a howl of her own causing both Mia and Vilkas to follow, "May the next sea be kind to you Valeria as you were to us all." She smiled before leaving the captain's cabin with both her dire wolves at each of her side.

The next day the painting was sent along with a note attached for Vahalia to read:

I hope this painting helps you to remember the way that she lived and not the way that she died. Remember your heart can't focus on both darling. Remember the good times just as well will over here. With love, Voss

"If there is one I would trust to shade and nurture our youngest apprentices much like the stalwart oaks of our forests, it would be you. Consider this my thanks for years of a job well done."

The Oaken Annex is finally open! «TOA» is a small workshop based within the Lavender Beds that acts as an extension and pick up location for The Oak Atrium, the carpentry guild of Gridania. Focusing primarily on existing commissions and local home and furniture/trinket repairs, this Annex was established by Timbermaster Beatin to not only increase their forces and workload in the wake of worldly trade and their continued assistance with Ishgard's Restoration efforts but to also offer a location where goods do not need to be transported so far to their new owner's homes.

Kel is the "foreman" or overseer of this location, having proved himself as a longtime dependable carpenter in his own right. With his gentle tone and patient nature, he is unsurprisingly a fantastic teacher to the guild's youngest apprentices and as such tutiledge under his wing is highly sought after for those who are a little more intimidated by the Timbermaster himself. Still, he frequently is abroad to help in Ishgard (and other places, though none are quite sure just exactly where he goes or what he's doing) so when he returns with little gifts in tow he's rather hard to get alone for a conversation.

OOC info, I'm so glad to see this place up and running! I didn't expect to have a home again so soon - about a month ago I left my prior FC of years and years that I helped found from scratch due to personal/moral differences and immediately after I learned everybody else either left or was kicked out as well. With nowhere to go I gathered us all back up in a new discord and set up The Oaken Annex based off a background lore idea I've had for Kel for a while. They were more than excited to band together and before I knew it we had a newborn FC the next day and just last week was the first time we were finally able to bid on a plot. Balmung being Balmung, there were only 2 small plots open and the one we wanted had over 350 bids, so we didn't have much hope. Though, it must have been meant to be because we managed to win it!

I sat down and worked myself to the bone all weekend to craft and plan and DC/world hop for best markerboard pricing to build them a nice comfy place to rest as a thank you and slowly start to get the group RP storyline up and running again. I may not have a personal room set up just yet, but at least the main building is done :>

LFRP: Miss Baivoux - Crystal DC

An elegant woman composed nearly entirely of mysteries and dangers, Miss Baivoux is someone I've only barely gotten to RP and would really, really, really love to have a proper chance to play her.

Miss B has the air and attitude of a noble, but seemingly has no ties to any of the noble houses outside of familiarity on both sides. No one seems to be especially fond of her though. When asked what she does, she claims to be a researcher into magic and alchemy, but rarely will elaborate beyond that. She is a woman with a dark present, past, and future and anyone who wants to get involved with her had better be well aware of that.

In-game RP: Is preferred for the most part, but I am willing to occasionally do Discord stuff in the long run. I have a weird work schedule and travel a fair bit, so sometimes its easier to continue a scene in messages. However, I would prefer to do in-game for the start.

Story Types: I am open to most genre of RP, but Miss B is a particular sort of character. Horror and mystery are for sure to be expected. She is also a non-combatant, so do not expect her to be leading any adventures (unless she had some shield between her and any dangers). While she can occasionally be friendly and open, she is not the sort one has a drink with.

Story Length: I am for sure looking for long-term stories and RP here. Miss B is a character made for long, slow stories. I am also 100% not looking for romance with her, she is aromantic for starters and amoral for seconds.

Misc: I certainly prefer paragraph length RP, but I know there are times when that doesn't work. However, on the whole, I want something meaty that I (and Miss B) can sink teeth into and really get dramatic and moody.

Hooks:

Miss Baivoux is a character steeped in horror tropes. She delves into forbidden magic of every sort she can find.

Are you also into those schools of magic, do you consider yourself a peer of hers? Present yourself to her withering gaze and find out if she thinks you're worthy to consider yourself such.

Are you an amoral merchant who can procure things of extremely dubious legality and flat-out immoral acquisition methods? Maybe she and you can strike up a working relationship.

Are you a young mage, desperate for power and willing to give up everything you have and are? Maybe she could find room for a pupil.

Does she drink a lot of blood? She doesn't think its a lot. Is she a vampire? Who are you and why are you asking so many questions?
