Blue lock as a ballroom dancing AU?
would you guys be intersted in a blue lock ballroom dancing AU?
Because I read the manga Ballroom e youkoso (it has one or two seasons as well) and I really loved it.
So like, let me explain. Instead of playing football, the blue lockers are ballroom dancers, and after every stage, they have to perform better and better in blue lock.
And just imagine the starting of Isagi as he loses first place to that blonde (help i forgot his name). Isagi was passing to that one guy in the first episode, right? (I also forgot his name), so, what if it was that guy's fault as well that they lost? Maybe the guy slipped and fell, or their performance was not good enough because of him?
Isagi would for sure be angry at that guy, but he'd get recommended to Blue Lock with Bachira, Nagi, Reo, and the others to become the best Japanese Ballroom dancers in the world.
and so, it comes to the fact that there are more boys than girls (I will make girl OC's and maybe even draw pictures but I'm not sure), and many boys have to dance with each other in order to compete.
Ego Jinpachi is their trainer, or coach, who manipulates them just like the canon one, just in the world of dancing instead of soccer.
And then, you come into the picture as well.
I actually thought about you coming to the entrance were everyone was gathered with your partner who was a tall blonde girl, with shy features.
But, I also wanted to give you an interesting character.
Imagine the following scenario:
You strutted towards one of the new guys, and Anzu (your female partner) stared at you in shock.
"Uh, Yena...? What are you doing?", she asked when you stood in front of Reo. (It could be anyone, but reo is rich and most likely famous, so it was easy imagining him being familiar to you)
"I am collecting my leaders."
"What? But--I thought I was your leader..!", she exclaimed, feeling helpless at your nonchalance.
Reo blushed a little at the thought of dancing with someone as pretty as you, but he still had Nagi. (That boutta change too bro, sorry Reo)
"Here in Blue Lock, only the best dancers can go forth. I lost the last competition because of you, Anzu. Your steps are too hesitant, you bow down to my body too much, and you don't have the face of a person who enjoyed dancing, but rather someone who was forced to."
That made Anzu flinch. "A-and what about you then, huh?!", she tried to reason, but you looked back at her with a serious expression. "I adjusted myself to your level, Anzu. And it's annoying as fuck. I cannot dance to my heart's content when I'm with you."
You turned around. "Remember what I told you when you and I first danced together?"
Anzu remembered too good. and it always pained her to even think about it.
"Don't get used to me when we are dancing. Don't fall for me when we are dancing. I'm a whore in the world of dancing.", she quoted, and you clapped your hands in applause.
"And you wanna know why I'm a whore?", you asked, smirking at her quirked eyebrow.
"It's because I always chase after the next best thing."
Anzu's eyes widened in shock. "Wait, don't tell me...!"
Ego Jinpachi's voice boomed suddenly, putting every single chatter into a stop. "hello, my dear blue Lockers. You all know the reason you're here, right?
In order to secure a world cup victory for Japan, we will create the world's best ballroom dancers."
You were thrilled. Anzu kept staring at you.
---
yeah that was the scenario, and I wanted for Anzu to be in team Z with Isagi in the others, who'd be practising the waltz, slow foxtrott and tango, whereas Yena would be in the team where Karasu and Otoya are. (I can change that too.)
I was just mingling the anime and manga of ballroom e youkoso and blue lock so that I even had dreams of dancing with the blue lockers lol.
Please tell me if you'd like to read something like that <3

Ballroom e Youkoso: Dreams, Passion, & Self-discovery through the art of dancing
Tumblr media
Spoilers ahead!
This will always be one of my top favourites of mine. One of the many things I loved about this manga– aside from my obvious adoration in its magnificent art (especially its motion art) is how it explores the intricacies of finding your own dreams for yourself. Tatara is on a constant pursuit of understanding himself as he digs into ballroom on a deeper lens; the becoming of a pair with Chinatsu being the fire that ignited Tatara’s self-discovery, how his realizations in staying in the ballroom world & encountering more people- especially Bres arc- is foisting him to ruminate on his dreams, purpose, motivation, and the courage to keep up despite it being a place that is still so enigmatic & distant from his own grasp.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are lots of chapters that have been introspective & I really love ALL of the characters (they’re all so beautiful) i can’t wait to see how Tatara’s experiences in ballroom will mould his growth as a dancer & as himself. I still don’t understand why they cut a certain scene from the manga in the anime considering Tatara’s feelings & admiration for Shizuku is imperative for his quest in entering ballroom dancing. esp. how he views his own motivation as asinine (and acknowledges it as part of his self discovery).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of my favourite chapters includes the one with Chinatsu- Tatara on his quest for the essence of dancing, confronting his qualms about himself leading up to a harmonious moment with Chinatsu and becoming one with her. Their growth as a dynamic has been wonderful, I love them so much (and before everything has been said and done, I am a platonic!chitara admirer). I also love the way Tatara has been recognizing ballroom as a bridge that connects him to the people he admires until he met these people who provoke his convictions to himself… now that he’s gained awareness, he HAS to fundamentally think about his own dreams for himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After Bres, I really love how discernible Tatara’s growth is as seen through different lenses (Chinatsu, Kiyoharu, Marisa). His ruminations abt his motivations in ballroom and seeking what’s beyond it allowed him to flourish & I can’t wait to see how it’ll pan out for him. Also side note, I just wanna reiterate how much I appreciate Tatara & Kurauchi’s relationship. They met not too long ago but the influence they’ve had on each other through their conversations alone have been so meaningful, and how much of their multifaceted layers of themselves are being constantly uncovered.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want to see him face his love for Shizuku & realize it’s fine that his feelings for her, wherever it might come from, is his reason why he dances! That after all, ballroom is the pathway that makes way for him to reach the people he admires. So happy that he always has convos with Kurauchi that hinders him from running away from his feelings & finally confront it.
& Tatara on his feelings for Shizuku: I think, whether it comes from a place of profound admiration or romantic love, it’s a lot deeper (doesn't mean it's romantic, it also doesn't necessarily have to be, but it's definitely an immense feeling that is significant to him). I’d love to see how Tatara will address these feelings & if this will bloom into a new approach w dancing.
Tatara has been building his self-confidence through dancing, & to me he is constantly learning to love ballroom through the people he started it for & the people he dance with. Which is so interesting!!! I’d love to see more of his growth as a leader too, and Tatara who has his own sense of pride as a dancer.

I love them😫🩵
Tumblr media
I wish a fandom existed for Ballroom e Youkoso🥲😭I freak out all by myself when there’s a new chapter and am shaking wanting to buy the 12th Vol when it comes out this yr. It feels like literally no one knows this anime/manga and it frustrates me ahHhHhH. I have so much to talk about it but since no one else reads it I feel like I’m just yelling into a void, which makes me want to make a video essay on it so it gets more attention, but I don’t know shit about making videos or essays or editing💀👩🏽‍🦯
I also might’ve accidentally made a vampire!Mako AU?!?! I wanted to draw her doing something violent bc she’s such a cinnamon roll but ended up with her as a Vamp oop. Btw Chinatsu is defending my best boi Tatara against evils(Shizuku💀) imma be honest and say I don’t like her, for several reasons but I won’t get into them🗿 also I absolutely loved Kugimiya’s backstory and design(he has a dump truck in this but it’s the baggy pants I swear😭). Idk what it is but both him and Tatara rly connect to me in a way other characters haven’t been able to. I also love the fact that Kugimiya and Tamie were paired as partners when they are so different from each other, I wish her hair wasn’t so layered and I bet it’s so much harder for her to style it bc of that💀Mako is best girl and Gaju is so stinky for doing her dirty with the whole Shizuku situation😒 if you see this and don’t have any idea who they are then please IM BEGGING YOU TO WATCH THE ANIME. I’m starving out here.

[Ballrooom e Youkoso]
(anime) 24 ep, 24 min. 9/7/2017
Studio: Production I.G
Script:Kenichi Suemitsu
Producer: Tetsuya Kinoshita
Sports anime focused on ballroom dancing.I remember seeing this anime around shortly after I saw Yuri!!! On Ice and thought it would be a similar vibe.I was excited when I saw the visuals, the dynamic, elongated and kind of uncanny proportions the characters had. It's theme as well,as I am not drawn towards sports anime. To my dissapointment, the plot was quite mediocre, pretty much everything was,to the point where I'm still confused.Did I watch this anime because I did want to see what happens,or was it a comfortable backround for multi-tasking and I felt too far in to find another one and just cut it entirely?
We see Takara Fujita,a highschooler struggling to find what he wants to do with his future. He seems to have quite a few "basic" options but his lower class life and the fact that nothing moves him enough to pursue it passionately, leave him frustrated and confused. He stumbles upon a dance studio,by accident, with one of the tutors there,a world-wide ball room dancing champion, thinks that Tatara wants to take lessons in dancing and drags him inside.Coincidentally,in the same studio,a girl that Takara has a crush on from school seems to be taking lessons as well.Only difference is that she,is a pro competitor athlete.Seeing his confidence slightly boosted from immersing himself in the world of ballroom dancing and his sights on said girl,he is motivated enough to give it all a try.
I don't know much about ball room dancing and having this series as a first major contact with it aside from a few performance videos,I don't think I am doing it much justice. It always rubbed me the wrong way,how in the latin category of this competitive sport, even the younger competitors had to look "sexy" and mature. And I am talking 10 year old kids.In Ballroom e Youkoso, they are teens and it doesn't go much into that category of the sport thankfully, but,in classic anime degenerate fashion, comments are made towards the women and girls of the story,no matter their ages, for the sake of comedy. As if that was not enough there is a lot of,in my opinion, blatant sexism or not so blatant in other cases regarding the roles of men and women within ballroom dancing, with the rhetoric used. This, could be something prominent in the sport itself, but I am in no position to comment on that, aside from the anime's presentation of it.You have your slight touch of body shaming as well but unfortunately, typical for such a setting.
Story wise,it really is nothing special.Though some plot points and the drama of it all,had me wanting to see how would the series go about the fundamentals it had set.Of course,on the topic of drama, you get your overdramaticised dancing scenes where the characters talk so unbelievably much or are presented so intensly,it kind of becomes laughable rather than immersing. As much as there were moments that peaked my interest there were just as many that had me quite bored.Admittedly there are some pretty well written characters. There is a general "air of queerbaiting" in this series, however I have to give to them the inclusion, though quite sneakily (because of TV guidelines I assume),the inclusion of a clearly queer woman near the end of the show, who has a longtime crush to one of the female leads of the story.
There were definetly moments that a scene made me shiver from how nice it looked or moments that made me smile by how wholesome they were however I feel like they could have done so ,so much more with the story. So many more characters to be given more important roles that went to waste, moments that could have been much more tension-filled or elevated. One of the main female leads I had mentioned before, speaks up about how she feels with the way women are treated in this sport, actively making a point about it and standing her ground. However, she oftne times gets ignored or does things that are entirely out of character ,in favor of the more male centered narrative surrounding Takara. As much as I personally enjoyed him as a protagonist.A smaller and probably the last issue I have with this show and will talk about, circling back to what I mentioned earlier,is how the characters are supposedly 15,16 maybe 17 at most and the way their bodies are drawn, they look like grown adults. It's an aesthetic choice,to hyper focus on the athlete body, but it still rubs me off the wrong way.
This is my longest entry yet I think, because this anime dissapointed me more than I thought it would and ended up finding myself expecting more of it.In my opinion it's mostly suitable to have into the backround,if you decide to watch it.I will not be reading the manga and truly, all the credits go to a few super nicely written characters and the pretty visuals in this series.
