History of Native American Art in Spokane
Spokane, Washington is a beautiful and thriving city in Idaho's panhandle. Spokane's history has something to do with the fact that it was the home of some of the wealthiest men in America, including goldsmiths, ironmasters and railroads owners. Spokane has also been the site of some of the bloodiest conflicts in American Indian history. A look at some of the notable places in Spokane will show you how much has changed in this city over time.
Spokane, Washington is the home of the Spokane Indians, one of the most important Indian groups in the country. Spokane's history has something to do with the fact that the Spokane area and its surrounding areas were an excellent location for early settlers to settle. The original population of Spokane consisted of several tribes, including the Spokane Indians, Spokane tribal members and Nez Perce. The Spokane tribe later moved into the middle section of the continent after they reached the Pacific Ocean. The native peoples who settled here included Winnebago, Nez Perce, Chippewa, Kalispell, Shoshone, Lakota, Cheyenne, Arapahoe and many others.
Spokane is home to over ten million people today. Spokane has grown into a major city over the past several hundred years, and continues to grow and develop into a bustling center of commerce, culture and ethnic diversity. Spokane is a home to some of the most stunning scenery in the United States. Spokane is one of the fastest growing cities in Washington State and it is expected to be one of the fastest growing cities in the country by the year 2020. The city is also home to a wide variety of native American tribes.
The Spokane Indians had a long history of warring with other tribes in the area but eventually signed peace agreements with all of them in 1812. The Spokane Indians served as warriors, trade workers and religious leaders for the Spokane tribe. In addition to this they were also great traders with whom they made many types of pottery including bowls, plates, knife handles and even guns. They were instrumental in bringing gold and silver to this part of the world and even established several mines in what is now Spokane.
Spokane is an important port and has a large wharf that was used by steamship and sailing vessels. Spokane has been a key point for shipping and trade with the world since the early days of our nation. Native Americans were integral to the growth of the country and provided the builders of the first American homes. Throughout the history of world events, Spokane is one city that has played a crucial role in shaping America and in turn the world.
Spokane is home to an impressive group of native people who are still thriving and prospering even today. This includes many of the descendants of the Spokane Indians who helped establish the Spokane tribe and later the Spokane Nation. You can see evidence of their long presence in this area in local Indian auctions, on native land and in other places of the world where you can find traditional art and other memorabilia.
A good number of the Spokane people have become professional artists and some of them have even won major world award contests. Some of these include the Grand Master Award which is given out every year by the United States International Auto Arts Association and the Spokane Indians Children's Orchestra. Spokane also is an important center of musical events because of the Spokane Opera. The Spokane Symphony Orchestra has been a contributing member of the Spokane community since 1958. The Spokane Symphony also has a rich history with many present day musicians having began their musical careers performing there.
Spokane has also hosted some of the finest music events and bands such as the Jazz Festival, Spokane Jazz Fest, the Spokane Jazz Summer Showcase and the Spokane Mountain Music Fest. Spokane has also produced some very talented contemporary artists, most notably Spokane native Kurt Ballesen and his quartet featuring members of Allman Brothers Band. Spokane has always had a very strong music scene and is home to many live music venues. The music scene in Spokane is just as strong today as it was in years past and more people are willing to venture into the exciting world of live music in Spokane.
