National Bal Bhavan Campus gets its first 105 feet Monumental Flag · 30X45 National Flag (Tiranga) hoisted on a 105 feet monumental flagpole · Flag Foundation of India installs 70th highest Monumental Flagpole New Delhi, 16th August 2018: Union Minister of Steel Shri Birender Singh hoisted and dedicated a mammoth 30X45 National Flag on a 105 feet monumental flagpole at the National Bal Bhavan Campus in New Delhi on the auspicious occasion of India’s 72nd Independence Day. The exciteent of children and students was worth noticing, when the minister hoisted the Flag. Shri Naveen Jindal President, Flag Foundation of India and Member of Parliament (14th & 15th Lok Sabha) and Smt Shallu Jindal, Chairperson National Bal Bhavan were also present during the celebration. The 105 feet monumental flag is the first Monumental flag for NBB Campus and the 70th Monumental Flag by Flag Foundation of India (FFOI) in India. The concept of Monumental flagpoles in India was conceived by the founder of the Flag Foundation, Shri Naveen Jindal in 2009 and the first monumental flagpole measuring 207 ft. in height was installed at Kaithal, Haryana followed by commissioning in other cities such as Kurukshetra, Hisar, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Kota, Raigarh, Raipur, Angul, New Delhi etc. The hoisting of monumental flags is part of Flag Foundation of India’s sustained endeavour to inspire young Indians to take pride in displaying the National Flag and instil a sense of patriotism among the citizens. Speaking at the occasion, Union Minister Shri Birender Singh said, “I congratulate the nation on this prestigious event of our Independence Day. This day reminds us of the sacrifices of our forefathers. We cannot forget their great sacrifices for us” “Today let’s take some time and recap the past where everyone fought for the independence we are enjoying today.” He added. He said, “Today, we can proudly say that we have completed the 72 glorious years of our independence. In the last 4 years, India has progressed a lot and become sixth biggest economy in the world. This is a great attainment for India in itself." A number of cultural programs were performed by children including songs, dances and sports. Various performances from the children were knit in together as a non-stop performance and a notable audience attended the event. The cultural performances highlighted the unity, diversity and rich heritage of India. Patriotism was the common thread of these performances. Praising the efforts of the Bal Bhavan, Chaudhary Birender Singh said, ´ the cultural presentation of children on patriotic song and music was amazing and inspiring. I congratulate the children and teachers for these marvalous presentations.” Welcoming the Guests, dignitaries, children and others present during the event, National Bal Bhavan's Chairperson Smt. Shallu Jindal Said, “I feel privileged to extend my warm welcome to all presented here for the dedication of the newly installed 105ft Monumental Flag to the nation ceremony. This is a historic moment for all of us.” Describing Children as the future of the nation, she opines that the young students should grow up as citizens with strong patriotic values. She hoped that this 105ft national flag would instill a sense of nationalism among students and inspire them to work towards nation building. Speaking at the occasion, Shri Naveen Jindal, President, Flag Foundation of India said, “The National Flag is the solemn symbol of the nation; It enshrines the very soul of our Republic and the ideals of our Constitution. Tiranga belongs to all of us equally. When a person displays his National Flag, he rises above political, social or religious affiliations. The Tiranga unites us in diversity; it is every citizen’s pride. I urge all Indians, especially the youth of the country, to proudly display the Tiranga and show love and respect for our National Flag throughout the year.” The mammoth flag weighing 15 kg is made of knitted polyester fabric called ‘Deneir Polyester’. The Chakra of the flag is printed by using specialized printing process. FFOI has so far installed 70 monumental flagpoles in India, which is the highest number in the world for a country; FFOI has installed 58 monumental flagpoles of 100 feet high and 12 monumental flagpoles of 207 feet high across the length and breadth of the country. Besides India, there are 13 more countries, which have got such monumental flagpoles. Mammoth sized National Flag on such lofty height is known as ‘Monumental Flag’, which is not lowered at the sunset and are adequately illuminated during the night. This was introduced after a policy decision by the Ministry of Home Affairs on 23rd December 2009, which allowed the National Flag to fly day and night on a flagpole of a height of 100 ft. and above with proper illumination of the National Flag.
