I think something that’s incredibly unique to loving bakugou is that even with god awful trust issues, you can always be sure that he loves you and would never cheat on you. he just wouldn’t have pursued you if he was gonna do something like that. why would he waste his time doing that dumb shit?
and if he liked you enough to pursue you—that’s it, my guy. he’s Into You. you are the desktop wallpaper of his brain. you are the person he wants to tell the odd things he overheard on the metro that morning. you are the first thing that comes to mind if he deflects a blow a little too slowly when he’s in the field. and if you by some chance don’t end up with him (spoiler: if you’ve put up with him to the extent that he cares for you, then you’ve seen enough of the man beneath the curated image that there’s no way you aren’t already in love with him or at least halfway there), then he will absolutely be so hung up over you for the next two-to-five years that he won’t look at another person with even a Shred of interest
his brain is just wired so Incorrectly compared to the way other people experience love and desire but that’s one of the things about him that makes him so extremely irresistible. I want to eat him like a slice of complimentary honey-wheat bread at an outback steakhouse
#is metro a dc thing or are all subway systems also called metros#usually I would look things up but it is Late and I am Tired#but god knows I’m thinking about the security that only bkg is capable of providing#even like. kirishima. great guy absolutely love him but I KNOW he sees a nice ass and his eyes wander……..#bakugou is the kind of man that’s so devoted that even if he can objectively say someone else is attractive he just doesn’t even feel it#because they’re Not You#so like. how could they hold any allure at all#eli.thots

↳ chapter twenty-six: aftershocks
❧ genre: pro-hero’s bakugou/kirishima, poly, happy ending
❧ chapter warnings: angst, hospital setting, panic attack, main character comatose
[multi-chap masterlist] [previous chapter - next chapter]
The sound of a loud and annoying heart rate monitor quickly filled your ears. Your eyes struggled to open under their lids and you started to panic, only making the noise worse as the beeping of it quickened. The blood in your veins was boiling, it was so loud and you just wanted it to stop, you just wanted to fucking see.
“Shut up! Fuck!” You cried out with clenched fist, “I can’t see!”
Your arms and hands reached up to your face and out before you, searching for anything. Suddenly, a hand was touching your wrist, making you flinch and gasp.
“(Y/N), it’s me, you’re okay just calm down please.”
“Toshi-Toshinori?” You asked with a shaky breath.
The hand moved to pat your head and you slowly calmed down as you started to remember the familiar frailness of it.
“Yes, it’s me. You were sleeping and seem to have woken up before your body properly could. Just breathe steady and calm down, listen to my voice.”
You nodded and followed along with All Might’s instructions, telling you to breathe in and out slowly. Your body slowly relaxed and your heart rate along with the sound on the monitor started to slow. Your nerves were calming and you tried to flutter and blink your eyes more. Slowly but surely, the creases of your lids started to open. They were heavy and it took all your strength to open them fully and hold them there but you managed.
The sight of a skinny Yagi Toshinori was the first thing you saw, his triangular smile making you nod and measly smile back. You hadn’t seen your mentor in what felt like decades. Even though you worked at his agency for the past half a year he only stopped by every now and then, the retired hero still worked avidly for UA and devoted his life to his present students. Nonetheless, his face was a welcomed sight. The man was like a father to you and you loved him dearly.
Sighing, All Might leaned forward and wrapped his arms around you, his hand on the back of your head patting gently as you rested your cheek on his shoulder and hugged back.
“(Y/N), I’m so glad you’re finally awake. It's so great to see your face!”
“Finally? H-How long have I been out?”
“Just a few days, you’ve been slipping in and out. After one of the recovery nurses healed you the best she could, it was up to your body to do the rest so needless to say it was extremely exhausted and needed to recoup.”
Toshinori finally released you and sat back in his chair that was next to your hospital bed. You went to rub the back of your head and winced when you roughly grazed a healing scar.
“Careful now, the wound is healed but the tissue is probably still sore. You took an incredible blow to the head during your fight.”
“That’s right, yeah – it was pretty gnarly I guess, I can’t really remember much right now, it kind of hurts to think.”
You chuckled lightly and looked around the room.
There were flowers, balloons, treat baskets full of goodies. As your eyes wandered over them you couldn’t help but feel hungry. In fact you were painfully hungry. Toshinori must’ve seen you eyeing the food because he stood quickly and walked over to one of the baskets, picking it up and placing it on your bed. You smiled and thanked him before ripping open the clear wrapping and dug in. There was a bag of beef jerky and for some reason it made your mouth water.
“I need protein, this will do!”
As you tore into the bag and grabbed a piece, you sighed after taking a bite of it and began to chew. The taste on your palette felt amazing and your stomach was most definitely thanking you.
You mentor laughed and sat back in his seat, “I can only imagine how hungry you are. Should I order you something, anything you want, it’s on me!”
“I could really go for an insanely large pizza right now with pepperoni and cheese!”
Nodding, Toshinori took out his cell and called a nearby pizza place and quickly made an order. When he hung up he watched as you continued to devour the beef jerky and move on to a bag of chips. His heart was happy seeing you awake and as if nothing changed, you still ate like an animal and were yourself. Seeing you so content and calm right now made him not want to question you at all, but he knew he needed to and he needed to call Bakugou as soon as possible to let him know you were awake.
Sighing, Toshi leaned forward and placed a hand on the edge of your bed, “(Y/N), what do you remember from the fight?”
You wiped your mouth as you munched on some chips and looked at All Might, the expression he wore you couldn’t quite pin down. Looking down at your scarred hands you sat in thought, trying your hardest to recall that night.
“Uh – we had to take down a Nomu! Yeah, I had this brilliant plan that Bakugou take Kirishima into the air and use him as a spear to off the thing. It worked right?” You asked yourself and thought more as you chewed.
Your free hand went to rub the back of your head again, your fingertip grazing over the scar tissue again and igniting a memory.
“Goddammit don’t you ever fucking do that to us again you hear me?” Bakugou’s yell echoed in your brain.
Suddenly, it's as if floodgates were opened and you remembered waking up inside a crumbling building, you could feel your head pulsating and throbbing and it felt hot. Two sets of crying red eyes looked down on you and both of your boyfriends held you close to their chests. After Bakugou had kissed all over your face, Kirishima took his turn as you asked if the three of you had won. He had tears streaming down his dirty cheeks, they fell and landed on your face. Your fingers reached up to touch your cheek as if you could still feel the hot wet droplets on your skin.
“Of course we won mama. God, I love you so much!” You remembered Kirishima answering.
After that you felt exhausted and kept slipping in and out of darkness, all you could remember hearing was Bakugou and Kirishima yelling back and forth at each other about 'getting out' and 'she needs you', the sound of walls crumbling was drowning everything out for you. Somehow you went from being in Kirishima’s arm and into Bakugou’s.
As you continued to think you rubbed the back of your neck, “I think I died for a minute, but Kiri and Katsuki, they saved me. We were in a building and I couldn’t stay awake, I wanted to but – I was so tired. Honestly the last thing I remember –“, you stopped mid-sentence and went cold as the last image you saw flashed before your eyes again.
Kirishima, he was on the ground and there was blood all around him, you remember screaming out his name miserably right before you passed out again.
“All Might … ” you breathed out as your lips started to tremble and the weakened man looked at you with sad eyes, “Where is Eijirou?”
As soon as Bakugou rounded the corner that turned down the long white hall towards your room he could hear monitors going off and lights flickering. Doctors and nurses were rushing in the same direction as him, passing and pushing him out of the way. Bakugou’s heart was sinking as he thought the worst
“I leave for one fucking hour and you wake up!” He yelled.
“All Might - what’s going on?” A nurse asked in a panic.
“I - I don’t know, I’ve never seen her do this before. We need Bakugou where is –“, Toshinori stopped as his eyes fell upon Katsuki, sprinting towards him.
“What the fuck is going on?” Bakugou yelled as he pushed everyone out of the way and stood in the doorway of your room. His red eyes widened and his jaw dropped, “Is she doing this?”
Everyone watched in amazement and fear as your entire body was glowing red, your hair floating around your face as if you were underwater. You were crying hysterically with your face in your hands. There was blood running down your arm where the port of your IV was pulled out. Almost every object, including your bed monitors were swirling and being flung around the room, almost like there were some invisible tornado wreaking havoc.
The sound of your sobs and pleas were all Bakugou could hear, his already shattered heart was just being torn into even more fine pieces.
Growling, the blonde started to make his way into the room. He hissed as he nearly dodged a scalpel and it thinly sliced his cheek. Katsuki dodged other objects coming his way and quickly made it to your bed and sat in front of you. He took your face in his hands and shook you lightly, trying to make you focus on him. You were breathing erratically, tears running down your face but your glowing red eyes finally looked at him and they widened.
“S-suki?”
“Yeah, it's me princess, I’m right here. You're okay,” he replied, brushing the pads of his thumbs under your tear ducts and wiping away the warm droplets.
“I – I can’t breathe, K-Kiri –“
“He’s alive baby, I promise. I’ll take you to him but I need to you to calm the fuck down. Something is happening with your quirk, you’re losing control right now and I just need to focus on me, breathe for me okay?”
Bakugou pleaded and he could feel the tears welling up but he pushed them down, you needed him right now, you needed him to be strong, not weak. He pressed his forehead to yours and continued to rub your cheekbones. Your hands rose up and hung from his wrists desperately and you nodded and listened to his instructions as he told you to breathe in and out with him. You did so, the breaths were shaky and broken but you managed with trembling lips and a body wracked with fear.
Katsuki clenched his jaw and grit his teeth, fighting back tears and helping you. Soon everything that was flying around the room was starting to slowly float, your hair was also weighing down and the red orb that emulated from your body was dying down. With one last deep exhale, everything crashed to the floor and you crashed into Bakugou’s chest.
He sighed and wrapped you in his arms, close and tight as possible, letting you cry into him, reverberating his entire body with your sobs and crying out unnecessary apologies. All Might let out a relieved breath and waved off all the doctors and nurses, asking they give the two of you time. Toshinori himself also left you both alone, slowly closing the door behind him.
“Katsuki … w-what happened?” You asked with a broken voice.
“A chunk of rumble flew from high above when the building was collapsing and it hit his head. The doctors said it pretty much rattled his fucking brain inside his skull, causing it to swell so they had to put him into a medically induced coma to prevent it from getting worse.”
You sniffled and he shifted to cradle you in his arms and lap, Bakugou rested his cheek on your head and pressed yours to his chest, shaking in disbelief. Placing your hand on his heart, he moved his own to hold onto it, interlocking your fingers together. You couldn't help but blame yourself relentlessly, you're the one that came up with a dumb plan and didn't watch your own back. It was your fault both your lovers had to run into that godforsaken death trap. Your fault that Kirishima stayed behind a few seconds longer so Bakugou could carry you out.
“I’m s-so sorry Suki, this is all my fa –“
“I swear to fucking christ (Y/N), don’t start with that bullshit. You and I both know that idiot wouldn’t let either of us blame ourselves for this.”
You nodded and kept quiet for a few more minutes, from the tone of his voice you could tell it wasn't a time to argue with the blonde. Bakugou held your hand and rubbed your shoulder. Besides his best friend being comatose, today was the first day he felt like he could breathe. Ever since arriving at the hospital Katsuki was a wreck. Not only was Kirishima under, but so were you. His entire world had crashed just like the building you escaped from. Before he could re-play that night all over again in his head for the millionth time Bakugou stopped himself. It was past him and right now, you mattered. He needed to take care of and be there for you no matter what.
“How long will he be – like that?” You asked.
“I’m not entirely sure princess, it’s only been two days since they put him under. They’re gonna run tests in a few days after they get the swelling down a bit more then we should know something. They had to do it to prevent any damage so it’s really not exactly as bad as it sounds, it was just a precaution. It should only be a few weeks.”
“Is there something we can do? Someone we can call, maybe someone has a quirk to fix this!”
You finally looked up at Bakugou and he looked back. Your eyes were red and puffy from your crying and he could see the distress and desperation on your face. Taking your face in his hands Bakugou shook his head.
“(Y/N), all we can do for now is let the doctors do their job and wait,” he replied and pressed his forehead to yours.
You let out another cry and let your face fall back into Bakugou's chest, he wrapped around you and let you cry more as your arms clung to him. The hero rocked you back and forth slowly, rubbing your back and petting your hair, placing kisses to your head and comforting you the best he could. This was all new for him and he couldn't find the right words to say besides "I'm here" and "it's okay". Katsuki felt shitty for how, well, shitty he was at this. You looked up and went to ask another question but a knock came at the door and you both looked at it. Bakugou told whoever it was to come in. The door opened and All Might peeked around the corner waving his hand.
“I’m sorry but the pizza is here, I think it's a good idea to get some food in your system yeah?”
Bakugou nodded in agreement and you pulled away from him, wiping your face clean of tears and shaking your head, trying to scoot out and off the bed. The blonde quirked a brow at you and asked what you were doing.
“I want to see him,” you replied and hopped off the unusually tall hospital bed with a grunt.
Once your feet hit the ground a sharp pain shot up through your arches and made you hiss and go weak in the knees. Toshinori hurried to your side and Bakugou quickly grabbed your arm with a growl and yanked you back roughly. You grit your teeth and cut your eyes at him.
“Goddammit (Y/N), be careful! You’re not fucking going anywhere until you eat something first, you can’t even walk right yet.”
You bared your teeth at the blonde and did the same, “I’ll be fine Katsuki let me –“
“(Y/N), you should listen to Bakugou. It’s been days since you’ve had an actual meal. I’m sure the doctor will want to come check on you as well before you start getting up and walking around. Especially after what you just displayed, if I’m not mistaken you may have awakened some other facet of your quirk from all the emotional stress your under right now.”
Your glare shot from Bakugou and to All Might, your mentor was taken back and raised his brows. Quickly you realized how much of a brat you were being and immediately softened your expression and looked down in your lap ashamed.
“I - I’m sorry Toshi,” you looked at Bakugou’s hand still gripped around your arm and to him.
Your boyfriend released you but his expression still held you.
“I’m sorry Suki. You guys know how unreasonable I can get when I’m hungry … and with all this on top of it - it just doesn’t really help.”
All Might smiled and walked over to your bedside, he placed a hand on your shoulder and squeezed it. You placed your own hand over his and squeezed it in return.
“There’s no need to apologize young lady, this is a lot to wake up to. Let’s get you fed and call the doctor back and we’ll go from there. Bakugou is here for you and I’m here for you.”
All Might looked at Bakugou who sat across from you still, his hand resting on your leg and his eyes looking down. Your mentor placed his other hand on Katsuki’s shoulder, making the blonde look at him.
“I’m here for both of you.”
You sighed and flexed your fingers after the nurse removed the blood pressure cuff from your arm, getting the feeling back into your numb digits. So far all your vitals were fine, your temperature was a few degrees high but nothing to be worried about.
“What about her quirk doc, I’ve trained her since high school and I’ve never seen that before,” All Might asked, resting his hand on your shoulder.
Bakugou sat at the other end of your bed, not once had he let go of your hand, even when you were eating he refused to let go. You didn’t make a big deal out of it or question it. You couldn’t begin to imagine the hell he’s been through having not only Kiri knocked out but you as well, he probably felt like the second he let go of your hand that you’d disappear and you couldn’t help but feel the same.
“Well, it’s not exactly uncommon for certain aspects of one's quirk to manifest late. It may be as they grow older and learn how to control their quirk more, a person never really stops learning or improving their quirks. Another cause could be severe emotional distress, which in (Y/N)’s case is most likely what triggered this. If you don’t mind me asking, what transpired between the two of you before this happened,” the doctor asked while he did a response test on your eyes.
“She recalled the events of that night in pieces, then she asked me where young Kirishima was. I didn’t think it was my place to tell her the extent of his condition and Bakugou was on his way, I figured he wanted to tell her. All I could say was, “I think we should wait for Bakugou”. I should’ve started off with saying that Kirishima was alive but for some reason I just didn’t think. I’m sure she thought the worst and that’s when she just - lost it.”
The doctor nodded and he asked you to activate your quirk, you looked at Bakugou and he nodded before releasing your hand. You did as asked, red orbs emulating from your palms and your eyes glowing red. He asked you to try and push yourself as far and as hard as possible, to try and reach that point again.
Taking a deep breath, you flashed back to the image of your red-headed lover lying on the ground in a pool of his own blood. Tears started to prick at your eyes and the red glow started to spread from your palms and up your arms. You began to breathe erratically and tremble as a burning sensation spread throughout your body along with the red color.
“(Y/N), breath calmly and focus. Focus on what’s happening now and controlling that,” your doctor instructed.
You nodded and Bakugou placed his palms under the backs of your hands, giving you reassurance and support you needed.
“When she was like this earlier, everything in the room was flying around. Her quirk allows her to levitate objects but usually only one or two at a time, she was moving multiple objects at once at an insane speed. I don’t understand what this red glow is though. It’s not dangerous because I’m able to touch her. Do you think it could be some kind of protective barrier or something?”
Bakugou asked as he looked from the doctor and to you.
All Might and the doctor looked at each other and shrugged. You looked from them and too Bakugou. There was only one way to find out right?
“Suki, use your quirk on me.”
“What?” He hissed and narrowed his eyes.
“We won’t find out what this is unless we test it out. I trust you and you know I can take it. Just shoot a small blast at me. If something happens then good thing we're already at the hospital right?” You playfully smiled for the first time.
Bakugou felt his heart start to flutter at the sight he hadn't seen in days and he felt a sort of happiness that you were still a smart-ass. He nodded and gripped your wrist tightly, he brought his other palm up and aimed it straight for your stomach. Clenching his jaw, his hand started to glow the color of fire embers and sparked lightly. You screwed your eyes shut and braced yourself, clenching your fists. You heard the sound of his small controlled blast shoot off, it hit you but it felt like a small flick to your skin. A collective gasp was heard throughout the room and you peeked open one eye.
For the first time that day you saw Bakugou beaming with pride.
“Holy fucking shit!”
You opened both eyes and looked down to your stomach and felt at the hospital gown that dressed your skin. There wasn’t a mark on you, not a spec of ash or residue, not a tear or tatter in the fabric. Looking back up and around you smiled and laughed.
“I’m like invincible, nothing can hurt me! Like Kiri’s unbreakable!”
Once the words left your mouth, your smile slowly disappeared and your heart sank. If you were able to protect yourself like this all along then why, why were you only finding out now?
“T-This whole time?” You hissed out and clenched your fists, “I could’ve saved myself, I could’ve saved –“
Bakugou’s eyes widened and his own smile dissipated when he realized what you were thinking, he reached a hand out to touch your face, “(Y/N), stop. We didn’t kno –“,
“No,” you slapped his hand away and let your face fall into your palms as you deactivated your quirk. You suddenly felt tired and collapsed over, Bakugou quickly caught you in his arms and held you close. “I – I could’ve used this to shield myself, to shield him,” you sobbed into Bakugou’s shirt.
“(Y/N), there’s no way you could’ve known. None of this is on you!” Toshinori replied and placed a hand over your shoulder.
"But he went in there all because of me! You both went in there for me!”
“And we’d fucking do it all over again, even knowing the outcome! Remember when you told him, your wounds weren’t his cross to bear? Well it’s the same way around, he wouldn’t want you sitting here blaming yourself over a promise he made and fulfilled. We live to protect you, it’s our job, he was doing his job!”
Bakugou took your face in his hands and made you look at him, “We went through this already. This isn’t your fault, if I can’t fucking blame myself then neither can you! Tell me what you want, and I’ll get it for you. I’ll do anything, just please, stop blaming yourself.”
You sniffled and Katsuki wiped your tears with the pads of his thumbs. He kissed your face and pulled you back into his chest. Your arms wrapped around and clutched him tightly.
“I just want to go see him. I need to see him.”
After getting dressed in a sweater and a pair of jeans Katsuki brought back for you, you both walked to Kirishima’s room that was down the hall from yours. The blonde kept his arm wrapped around your shoulder and you clung to his side. When you finally reached the room door, you stopped and took a deep breath before pushing the door open. It felt heavier than anything you’ve ever had to open before, almost as if the whole weight of the world, the weight of what was beyond the barrier, was all compounded into that exact door as you opened it.
What it revealed was a sight you never imagined you’d have to see.
Before you laid Kirishima. He had a breathing mask over his face, IV’s hooked up to his arm and bandages wrapping his chest and head. He looked beat to hell but you could see his chest, slowly but surely rising and falling along with the sound of the breathing machine. You walked forward more, your hand slowly slipping from Bakugou’s grasp, making your way to Kirishima’s side. Suddenly making Bakugou's side feel ice cold.
You were expecting it all to be a cruel joke, waiting for his ruby eyes to flutter open and look at you. Waiting for the heart stopping sharp toothed grin to cross his face and a cheery yet raspy “Hey mama” to fall from his lips. But the longer you stood and waited, the more you realized it wasn’t going to come. You took his hand, gritting your teeth from feeling his warmth, tears welling up at the lack of response. His fingers didn’t curl or interlock with yours and hold you tight and you didn’t know when the time would come that they ever would again.
Bakugou stood back and watched you, your shoulders started to tremble and you let out a short sob, covering your mouth to try and hide it. Before you could fall to your knees, Katsuki was quick to run and grab you, wrapping his arms around you and falling to his knees with you. You shook in his grasp, your hand still clinging to Kirishima’s and your other one gripping at the arms around you. You leaned forward, pressing your head to the bedside and sobbed. Katsuki pressed his face to your back and kissed you relentlessly hoping he could make the pain stop.
The two of you stayed that way for the next half hour, crying and holding each other until you exhausted yourself. Bakugou frowned and lifted you from the ground and walked to the chair next to Kirishima’s bedside. He sat down and cradled you in his lap and chest. Your crying calmed and you breathed shaky breaths. Katsuki played with your hair and his thumb brushed your thigh that he held, your fingertips lightly scratched at his chest.
"What do we do now Suki,” you asked quietly.
Bakugou was silent at your question. For once he didn’t have answers or a plan, he didn’t know what to do. The doctors wouldn’t be running tests on Kiri until a few more days and even when they did, it would still take a few days until they got results. There wasn’t really much that you could do besides sit here and wait. But was that best for you?
Bakugou sat and thought about if he were in Kirishima’s place and Kirishima were in his, holding you as you asked the same question.
“What would that moron do? He wouldn’t just let her sit here, right?”
No, Kirishima would make sure that you didn’t wallow around and wait for answers or plague yourself with the image of either of them in such a condition. Of course he’d care about Bakugou’s condition but he wouldn’t neglect your feelings. He’d take you home and away from this place. Kirishima wouldn’t let this hospital become your home and he wouldn’t let it become Bakugou’s either. He’d want the two of you out of there and recovering yourselves. He’d probably tell Bakugou, “man up, it’s your turn!”
Suddenly Katsuki realized what all this meant and he felt the weight of the world sitting on his chest, that weight was you.
It wasn’t his job to worry about Kirishima, the doctors would do that, it was his job to worry about you. It’s as if Kirishima were dropping you into his arms and testing him.
Could he do it though?
Sure he could take care of you physically but he was still shit in the emotional department. He still wasn’t great at meaningless conversation or jokes with you, he was just now learning, and now he had to jump in head first.
Your face looked up to him and your (e/c) eyes were looking for answers, answers that Katsuki didn’t exactly have for now and maybe that was okay? There’s no fucking manual on how to deal with your boyfriend being in a coma, no one in the entire world knows how to deal with this. But nonetheless, Bakugou was sure of one thing. He’d be there for you and try to fill this void that ate away at you. The two of you would figure this shitty situation out together. How hard can it be right?
Before answering, the blonde took a long breath and he situated himself in the chair to hold you at a better angle that let you look each other directly in the eyes. Bakugou cupped your cheek with one hand.
“Look - I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t know, but I’ll figure it out, we’ll figure it out. For once, I don’t have the fucking correct answer here princess and I’m so sorry but I swear on my fucking life, I’ll get it for you but I know that it’s gonna take time, we have to be patient okay?”
You sniffled but nodded in agreement. Thankfully, there wasn’t anger or disappointment on your face but total understanding. So he continued.
“First I’ll get the doctors in here and you can ask them as many questions as you want, they went to school for this shit and know more than me right?” You weakly giggled, but shit it was still a giggle. “We’ll see what we can do but I have a feeling it won’t be much. If you want to stay here tonight then we will but tomorrow, I’m taking you home.”
“But Katsuki we can’t lea –“
Bakugou cut you off and placed his thumb over your lips, “I promise we aren’t leaving him (Y/N), we’ll come back any time you want but I refuse to fucking let you live here and become some shell of yourself. He wouldn’t want that either. The doctors will take care of him and keep us updated. We need to take care of ourselves as well, I need to take care of you.”
You looked away, obviously not very happy with Bakugou at the moment but he didn’t care, you’d get over it.
“Fine. Call the doctors in but I’m not leaving unless they say it’s okay.”
Bakugou narrowed his eyes at you and grit his teeth but quickly pushed away his usual brash reaction to your brattiness. He took another breath and lightly pinched your cheek, asking quietly, desperately, for you to look at him again. It took a moment but you did, your eyes rimmed red and lips trying not to frown.
“I know you aren’t very happy with me right now and I get it, but please know that I love you so fucking much and I’m only trying to do whats best for you okay? (Y/N) … I’m scared too, I’m just as fucking hurt and worried as you are, you have to believe that - but I won’t sit here and let you just waste away waiting on him to wake up. He will wake up, I fucking promise, we just have to be patient … please, I know you need me and I’m going to bust my ass making sure I’m everything I can be until that idiot is back at home with us but … I - I need you too. We need each other.”
Your eyes softened and you swallowed slowly. Bakugou looked down, not entirely sure how he felt about admitting that he was in fact weak right now. He wasn’t sure what to expect, he didn’t know if it was selfish to say that he needed you but he felt like he needed to say it.
When your hands softly cupped the sides of his neck though and your forehead rested against his, Bakugou felt that weight suddenly become lighter.
“I - I’m sorry Suki, I didn’t even begin to imagine what you’re going through and t-that’s really shitty of me. I’m just so overwhelmed right now and I know that’s not a fucking excuse but yeah. You’re right, we do need each other. I know how close you are to him, I know you love him too, that you’re just as scared. I shouldn’t expect you to have all the answers, I just can’t help it sometimes, me and Kiri always come to you for everything - you’re amazing you know?”
Bakugou scoffed and you bit on your lip, running a hand up into his hair and kissing the lone tear that started to stream down his pale cheek.
“I love you so much Katsuki Bakugou and I promise, I’ll take care of you too. We’ll take care of each other through this, we’ll get through this. I know it won’t be easy but … easy is for bitches right?”
The blonde couldn’t help the snort that left him, the grin that crossed his face when he finally looked up at you. You smiled back and leaned into him, noses brushing lightly against each other before you captured his lips in a soft kiss. You could feel as his body physically relaxed underneath your fingers and weight, the sigh that escaped when your lips parted for the briefest seconds. Bakugou’s wrapped his arms around you tightly, lashes fluttering closed as he continued to kiss you, something he thought he’d never do again. When the kiss broke, you hugged each other close and sat in a comfortable silence.
A silence that was filled with the sound of breathing aided by a machine and the steady but matter of fact beeps of a heart rate monitor, signaling that the two of you weren’t alone, that you were still a trio.
After talking to the doctors they informed you of everything Bakugou already told you about. They did agree that in the next few days it would be best for you to go home, with testing on Kirishima he would be moved in and out of his room, so it was best if you were out of the way for them to do their jobs and not cause you any further emotional distress. You didn’t like their answer but you understood and agreed that it was the right thing, but before you left you spent some time with Kirishima alone.
You sat on his bed and held his hand, which was still warm, his entire body was warm to the touch in fact which seemed to be a good sign. As you talked, you longed to have him respond with anything, a look or smile, a laugh.
“I’m so sorry Eijirou … none of this would be happening - you wouldn’t be here if I would’ve just paid more attention to my surroundings.”
You leaned over and touched what pieces of his hair were accessible. Letting tears fall as you toyed with the soft red locks and looked at his sleeping face. Your heart was grateful he was alive but it hurt worse to see him this way, not smiling or beaming with happiness.
“Maybe they’re right Kiri … I don’t know if I can see you like this each day. I don’t want this image of you and I wouldn’t want you to have to suffer through this with me.”
Wiping your eyes you finally got off the bed and walked over to the other side where his face was more open. Your fingers traced his red brow and the scar that adorned it. You smirked and remembered the first night you moved in and he told you the story of how he got it. You leaned forward and placed your forehead to his, clutching his hair in your hand as you grit your teeth and prepared to say goodbye for the night.
Your lips trembled when they kissed his eyebrow, “I know you’re in there Kiri and I pray to whatever god there is that you can hear me. You’re so strong but I need you to be just a little stronger, I need you to get better and come back to us. I love you so much, you’re my fire remember?”
You sniffed and kissed his face again, letting out a shaky breath as you pressed your cheek to him. “I promise, I won’t let you burn out, but you gotta help me okay? I have to go for now, but I promise, I’ll be back. I love you, I love you s-so much Red. We both love you.”
Brushing his hair back, you stood straight and gave him one last look before turning to take off out of the room, wiping your eyes and crashing into Bakugou. He grunted when you collided with him but he immediately held you close and kissed your head. The blonde looked down and cupped your cheek, making you look at him to make sure you were okay.
Of course you weren’t one-hundred percent okay, but you were getting by, mostly because you had Bakugou. And once the two of you left that hospital it was his turn, his turn to take care of you fully, all on his own - but also it was your turn to take care of him.
“Let’s go home princess.”

I want some cute/fluff things to go awww for from the BNHA Ageswap AU, so let me here 'em! Tell us about some funny or adorable things that happened before the Canon of ageswap between the friends/former classmates/teachers when they dealt with younger siblings & brotherhood, a fire spitting baby and a telekinetic green haired girl that just lost her parents. Maybe not in that order. Chronological, if that is manageable. I want some dorky friends being friends and dorks while trying to manage.
bless your heart, fluff sounds wonderful right about now! :D Forgive me if this answer turns out entirely too long and incoherent, but I really like thinking about this stuff.
so, like the Ageswap heroes, a lot of them when they graduated were more on line of like, just regular old friends. But there were certainly groups of them that were good close buddies together (i.e the Dream Team of Ageswap Uravity/Ingenium/Deku, who absolutely were besties, and also Kirishima and Bakugou were pretty alright with each other come grad time). Once their hero work started in earnest, it turned out their ties to each other was beneficial from time to time, so it drew them much closer together! Within just a few years of graduating, they’re much closer to the Family UA we know and love, but it isn’t until just a bit later that they get that final push.
(Putting the rest of it under the cut because while I answered your question and gave you some Fun Times, on a whole this answer turned into every conceivable fact and detail about the history of the Family UA squad and their adventures in childrearing, and also general silly things about Inko, Enji and Tensei because I could. Sorry - I hope you don’t mind, and that I more or less cover the stuff you’re really looking for!! This is going to be a record-setter as far as length goes, oh jeez.)
Most of the Ageswap Heroes work as just heroes for some time following their graduation, making names for themselves and rising through the rankings. Their jobs at UA don’t happen until a little further down the timeline, which I’ll elaborate on later.
Inko is the first to join the Ageswap UA fam, actually. Deku had been fighting some villains, a group they’d been tracking down for a good few months now - it’s the first time they’d been able to pin these guys, and it’s now or never to bring them in. Still, even in a two-on-five fight, Deku’s no pushover. It’s all going well until one of the villains whirls around, swings wide past the two heroes, and launches a hit straight at a building nearby.
Someone screams. One of the others follows their comrade’s lead and takes potshots at people on the street, and the whole block just starts to crumble.
On that day, the pro-hero Deku breaks his self-imposed quirk limits (which are in place more for the protection of others than for his own sake at this point in time, in order to quickly subdue the villains so that he can call in rescue squads because they have civilians they need to save right this damn minute, come on!
He works in tandem with the rescue teams for hours. It’s the low burning kind of physical activity, the careful shift of debris and following the desperate yell of people, trapped and afraid and god, if only he could’ve ended the fight sooner-!
It’s not his fault, not entirely - he can’t be everywhere at once, with some villains engaging him and others going to wreak havoc, but though this isn’t the first time there may be casualties, it’s still hard. They’d been fighting in an area with plenty of offices and apartments, and though some had managed to evacuate, others had been unable to do more than lock themselves into their homes and hope for the best.
Deku sees something incredible and terrible, in the ruins of one of the apartment complexes. A married couple, crumpled cold and together beneath rubble, unseeing eyes locked on the ruined door frame. Above them, in the room they diligently guarded, chunks of wood and plaster and tile float harmlessly among stuffed toys and dolls. It’s like some kind of morbid baby mobile to entertain the slumbering infant, still unaware of the world around her.
(”Esper-like quirks,” they tell him later. “They used their quirks before death and tied them to the baby, and the strength of it caused their quirks to linger. We’ve never seen anything like it, but you found her just in time - the effects wouldn’t have lasted much longer.”
“That’s not true,” Deku doesn’t say when they leave, baby tucked into the crook of his arm, safe and sound and fast asleep. “I didn’t find her fast enough - her parents would still be alive if I had.”)
Izuku takes Inko in, after, because of a sense of duty. It was his fault, in a way, not stopping the villains fast enough, not finding Inko and her parents fast enough. When he returns home, the first thing he does is call Ochako, and explain everything. He wasn’t sure who else to call, he admits, and there’s probably someone else they know who would be better to call about this, but there’s a sleeping baby with dead parents in his hands that he’s just asked to have temporary custody over and dear god he’s got absolutely NO CLUE WHAT I’M DOING PLEASE H EL P ME
(he wants to do right by this baby, by god, but he’s not exactly built for this.)
Once she’s done laughing, Ochako pulls Tenya aside because as it turned out, she’d been with him at the time. Between the three of them, Deku buys a shit-ton of baby supplies, goes over the procedure for gaining legal custody of Inko, tells everyone that “yeah sorry I’ve got a kid now! ….surprise?”, and gets so many visits from everyone at this time like “damn, man, lookit u growing up so quick :’)”
The first year is an adventure, man. This is the first kid of the Ageswap UA squad, so, no one has any clue what their doing. Izuku gets lots of little “care packages” in the mail from everyone containing stuff that’s supposed to help him (by the second month he’s got two whole cabinets devoted to diapers, and he tells everyone to stop sending them already because god, guys, she’s one baby, come on). Eventually, with lots of trial and error, Izuku settles into something normal-ish with Inko, the custody goes through, and everything’s fine.
Then a year later, Tensei is born! Tenya, for his part, is ecstatic at his little brother’s birth, because of course he is, it’s his little brother! Everyone is invited to come meet his little bro, but only a few people can really make it - Uraraka comes, and though Izuku can’t make it in person, he skypes in with Inko and sends his love and wishes. Todoroki drops by with his significant other (who, for reasons, we aren’t elaborating on. I don’t really want to fridge them, but right now, that’s mostly what we’re doing with them), as well as most of the class at varying times because they need to travel to arrive where Tenya and his bro are, and sometimes that kind of time just doesn’t happen for a while. By the time Tensei is a year old, though, everyone has visited at least once! Bakugou’s visit only lasted a few minutes, but at least he showed up.
Tenya does his best to help his parents look after the newborn Tensei as the Iida fam figure out how to balance their hero duties with taking care of the baby. For a time, the Iida family ducks out of the limelight in order to focus on Tensei. When they have the time, the others come in to help after their first visits. It’s sporadic, but the Iida’s appreciate it a lot! Tenya and Izuku end up swapping a lot of tips and things between them at this time.
So everyone’s time is like, majorly divided now. There’s hero duties to uphold, kids to look after, media hounds to dissuade from invading all parts of their personal lives, it’s a bit of a mess. Everyone wants the world to slow down a little at that point.
Which, of course, is exactly why the world decides it’s a fantastic time for Todoroki Enji to come into this world, screaming his little baby head off many miles away. It’s all a bit of a mess, really, because Inko is just barely past one year old, Tensei was born weeks ago, and now there’s little Enji in on it too! Poor Ageswap UA squad.
As mentioned in a previous ask, it’s some time before the three babies meet each other face to face. But, that hardly means a thing in the wake of our favourite thing - CHILDREARING SHENANIGANS.
To make this quick, I’m going to provide slightly chronological details and anecdotes about these kids growing up and in general, about the Nineteen Adults who are Completely Winging This Every Step of The Way (feat. Tenya’s parents, who do know what they’re doing, Tsuyu, who also knows what she’s doing thanks to her siblings, and the sporadic and spread out conversations @guardianlioness and I have had on the subject of Fam 1-A raising the children):
Kirishima is a blessing to everyone throughout everything, honestly, he gets along so well with the babies and his power with toddlers is comparable only to Deku’s own power with them.
Tsuyu is wonderful at looking after babies too, and is a godsend whenever any of the three need to be looked after
Uraraka loves to come by and spoil Tensei and Inko with laughter and toys and playing and liberal (safe) use of some zero g’s when he was first born.
Also, when Inko’s quirk manifested into her small-object attraction, Uraraka was ecstatic bc it’s a very floaty quirk.
Uraraka splits her time between visiting Tensei and Inko and Enji basically all the time, once Enji is born, and is a close second for the status of go-to babysitter (Tsuyu is admittedly in first whenever she’s in the country, because she’s just got good experience about it)
Tensei as a baby, for some reason, is quite fond of Sero! Though he tends to visit a bit less as far as the regular visitors go, because of, you know, hero-ing.
Dark Shadow takes a shine to Inko when Tokoyami passes through to say hello. He swears up and down Inko (who at the time was like, maybe under a month old) babbled something that sounded suspiciously like “birdie” and no, of course he isn’t happy about that, he’s no common bird! (Try telling that to Dark Shadow though, who is perfectly content with the nickname)
On the reg, though, because I’m tired and describing how every baby reacts to everyone would get repetitive real quick, it’s just facts that basically everyone gets along with the children well enough? There really isn’t anyone who doesn’t help out at some point or who was bad with the three kids, and all of them love their many aunts and uncles (even if some of them won’t acknowledge or admit it)
Tensei, surprisingly, was fussiest as a baby, though he mellowed out with age. He’s followed by Enji and Inko as far as baby rankings go. Enji was a damn hellion during the toddler stage though, and Inko had some trouble around the same age.
Frankly, and pardon my language, everyone fucking loves Inko basically instantly once Izuku takes her in, even if they first meet her over video call. She’s cute as a button when she’s a baby, all rounded face and tufts of long hair and lots of smiles and laughs and gosh, how is it possible for a baby to be this adorable?? We Just Don’t Know.
Once he’s over his panic, Izuku does well by Inko, though he’s still a bit awkward. He’s nothing before the power of a baby, tbh but compensates through sheer Dad Ability. When it comes to little kids and toddlers though? Izuku is a literal godsend. His wonderful skills were definitely put to a lot of use around the terrible toddler times (often through video call for Enji, though there were times he would drop by and visit in person if he was in the area while on the job.)
Izuku’s ability with kids and toddlers has a lot to do with Enji’s respect for his uncle actually - he’s one of the few people Enji listens to on a regular basis, and whose opinion he trusts, and one of the only people he’ll actually listen to (which causes trouble during his time at UA, but that’s much further down the line)
Everyone has had a go at babysitting each of the trio at least once in their lives, to varying degrees of success.
On related and unrelated notes respectively, Aoyama and Hagakure aren’t allowed to babysit without at least one other responsible person present at the time. Also, Sero and Kaminari aren’t allowed to babysit Tensei as a kid without supervision (together or individually), and Enji goes through a minor phase where he refuses to allow any of his uncles to look after him for completely unknown reasons to everyone else
(it’s because he’s worried that if his uncles look after him too much he’ll start treating his aunts funny like how the stupid kids at school treat girls funny sometimes for child logic reasons, and Enji is too smart a kid to think that treating his aunts with anything but respect is a bad move. As a result, during this time, he spends as much time with his super strong aunts as he possibly can to remind himself to never go down that road, until he realizes that of course spending time with his uncles wouldn’t change anything, duh! They’re just as afraid and respectful of the women in his life as he is, and with due reason. And so, everything returns to normal again.)
Inko’s quirk is the first to come in at the tender age of 8 months, and caused a little bit of chaos when it did. It starts with her picking up the teddy bear that fell out of her bed while Izuku is bending down to pick it up for her, which scares the shit outta him. He’s extra careful not to leave small and potentially dangerous things (like screws or something) lying around where she might be able to pick them up with her quirk.
Second is Enji, who gains his at one year and two months. His manifestation comes in the form of him completely setting his head and hair on fire, leading to a long fifteen minutes of confirming Enji is perfectly okay frantic phone calls, emergency skype video calls, the copious use of google, and Shouto frantically trying to get his son to put out his quirk without hurting him before his son accidentally burns their entire house down (which he barely manages).
incidentally, Enji only loses control of his quirk as a baby - his control doesn’t waver after that, until many, many years later when he’s attending UA.
Tensei’s quirk manifests a bit before his second birthday in an uncontrollable burst of exhaust that sends the little boy’s face into the early birthday cake the Iida family bought in a rare moment of free time for all of them. Bless his heart, Tensei only laughs as they clean him up and deem the cake salvageable (and they send many profuse thank-you’s to everyone who had the foresight to send them tips on how to cushion everything and send their boy plenty of helmets)
They start learning self-defense when they’re around five years old each, though mostly minor basic things that wouldn’t hurt them or anything, you know? Everyone wants to make sure they can take care of themselves, whether they go on to be heroes or not. (This is why Inko’s prowess in fighting can match that of 1-A when quirks aren’t involved).
The first time Inko and Izuku visit her parent’s graves, Inko is three. She brings a handful of flowers her dad let her pick at the park (and one of which they bought impulsively after seeing it in the window of a shop), and spends hours laughing and telling them stories about her day, and how much fun her aunts and uncles are (”Auntie Ocha taught me how to a somersault in zero gravity last week!” “Wait, Ochako did what-”) and how much she loves her dad. Izuku swears he isn’t crying when he tells Inko’s parents about Inko and her studies and what a wonderful, beautiful daughter they’ve managed to create and how happy he is he can take care of her, really.
that’s a lie, of course he is, really, who do you think we’re talking about here
Inko has always known that she isn’t Izuku’s biological daughter. Izuku has always wanted to be very open that he loves her so, so much and is sorry he couldn’t save her parents when she was a baby, because it was important to him that she know about the two noble people who spent the last moments of their lives making sure she survived.
When Inko is four, just before they move to one of the wards closer to Enji and Tensei and everyone, Izuku asks Inko about her taking on his last name and him officially adopting her (at this time she’s his ward and he’s only got custody/guardianship of her). He refrained from just going through with it because he wanted to be Inko’s choice, instead of making it for her. She accepts immediately and affectionately refers to the night her paperwork went through as “Family day” (which instantly becomes a shared Ageswap Fam Holiday and day of celebration, naturally)
Tensei and Enji have no clue that Inko isn’t Izuku’s biologically and don’t actually learn this detail until they’re students at UA. In their defense, it kind of wasn’t their fault (though they’ve got their physical differences, Inko and Izuku share an uncanny resemblance for sharing absolutely no blood whatsoever) as everyone forgot to tell them in general, but it doesn’t make a difference because Inko is still family, after all.
Though, it does explain Family day a little bit, when they explain that it was the day he legally adopted her way back when.
Tensei is a bit of a mischievous little spirit, he is, but I’m sure we all know that. Left to his own devices, his curiosity and desire to do really awesome cool things (in traditional kid form) lead him into some pretty ridiculous situations.
He and Enji grew up in about the same(ish) area, so as toddlers they spent a lot of time together, which did help. Sometimes, they’d go out and get into the kind of dumb situations only kids can get into except twofold because there’s two of them to lead to extra trouble, because of course they would
both refuse to disclose the details of what is loosely referred to as “the cat and chick incident”, and since the only thing any of their guardians ever heard about it was the aftermath… god only knows
Enji, as a kid, was very standoffish and very prideful over his quirk. He was cordial with Tensei and Inko, at the least, and both have his respect, but man, was he ever bad at making friends.
Still, for all his vices, he was still a kid. It’s not often, but if you ask Shouto at the right moment in time, he’ll show you all the photo albums he’s kept of his boy growing up. A fan-favourite series of pictures is of Enji having fun at the fair with all the cotton candy and ferris wheel and roller coaster rides his little heart could ever desire. Enji vehemently denies the legitimacy and existence of those photographs at all possible times.
Inko and Tensei get on like a house on damn fire, the devil duo they are. Not that any of their parents ever learn the full details of their antics, since Inko is much better at hiding her tracks than she really has any right to be frankly
The only time they were caught is the time they were going to have Tensei distract some bullies while Inko floats water balloons over their heads, to trick them into thinking they were haunted and maybe get them to stop being jerks. Instead the water balloons go to the noble cause of becoming ammo in a massive water fight that they somehow manage to drag Tenya, Enji and Shouto into, and the parents get some tips that lead to stern talking-to’s and the end of bullying in their area. It’s great all around.
The reason why Inko wants to become a doctor focused on hero medicine is because of the aftermath of the ShigaDeku fight, in pre-canon. Izuku had to go through a great deal of physical therapy and impose a limit on his use of One For All because of the results of the fight and, well, Inko of course took it upon herself to make sure her dad took good care of himself in the aftermath, you know? Eventually she realized that if she became a doctor, she’d have the knowledge to better help her dad along with all the other heroes out there keeping them safe. Thus, doctor Inko was born!
A lot of the Hero squad associate with UA and became teachers for the kids, tbh. Seeing them grow up right before their eyes… it kind of puts things into perspective, how they grow and change and work towards their dreams just like they all once did! Still, not everyone was suited to teaching (and some of them have specialties that are in high demand in the hero industry), which is why some of the squad only really come on as guests and substitute teachers from time to time (such as Ochako)
Once in a blue moon, Shouto and Enji will spend the entire weekend together. These weekends are difficult, sometimes, as their relationship is rocky, but Enji will never admit how much he treasures the times he gets to sit down on the couch with his dad and fall asleep there, knowing he’ll still be home when he wakes in the morning.
When Inko is old enough to cook, there are times Inko and Izuku will argue over who gets to make breakfast that morning. It’s a toss of the coin as to who wins each time
Tenya and Tensei don’t get to hang out often, but one constant ritual between them is when they slouch in the living room and do pretty much whatever. Sometimes Tenya will have paperwork and Tensei will be playing video games, or Tenya will be texting Ochako (who is inevitably bothering him about hanging out with him and Izuku sometime soon) while Tensei eats dinner, and that kind of stuff. It’s nice to bask in the presence of the other and when Tensei feels negative/volatile but doesn’t want to be in his room (or doesn’t want to be alone), he’ll gravitate to the living room automatically.
Tensei’s greatest hero has always been and always will be his brave older brother, who always follows the rules and is full of nothing but enthusiasm and the desire to see the world thrive by saving lives and keeping others safe.
The one and only time Inko, Tensei and Enji teamed up in any sort of incident-slash-adventure was when they were about eight years old, in which they discovered a sturdy but abandoned shopping cart in an alleyway one day. Naturally, they decided Experiments Must Be Conducted and subsequently learned that when all three of their quirks are paired together, they’re freaking unstoppable
(the gist of what happened is Inko would move or topple obstacles over so the cart could make it past them, Tensei would power them forward uncontrollably, and Enji would use his fire to let them make sharp turns or brake sharply since Tensei’s quirk didn’t let him do that. They may have unwittingly made local news in the process and gotten into so much trouble afterwards, but it was totally worth it.)
