This is my ongoing prequel fanfiction for Discord Murder Party! It starts as a road trip with Murder God and Aelethias and Baku, but spirals into something else...there are moments with all the Awakened, and explorations of the relationship between the Black Stars Pantheon. There will be mood whiplash. There will be games. There will be eldritch evil. There will be poetic bullshit.
Please heed all the content warnings in the tags. The mature rating is for the violence and abuse depicted in the story; there is no smut. I'm not sure my depictions of the sensitive topics are accurate or handled well, so please proceed with caution.

picking at scabs
7:05 p.m., at my house, August 10, 2024
It's been quite a riotous three months, but to summarize all that has happened since my last entry: I've dropped three subjects for the second semester, joined an intl opportunity I liked doing but fumbled badly, passed a hard class, failed two essential ones, decided to take a leave of absence, and have sat on my ass being pathetic at home.
And now, I wait. The last day of doing nothing. A benchmark day before the 12H storm.
Just got home from a school fair at the law school which I am not going to attend for an entire year. I have been graceful with my exit, happy that it ended, but now that I came from the beach with my law school friends and felt left out and also unworthy and also like a party crasher at their beautiful if underfunded beach party, the sepanx is hitting and it is real.
I spent the last twenty minutes of it unable to relax, feeling very uneasy and stressed out and lonely and vulnerable and uncomfortable and I would've jumped out of my skin if I was at all capable of doing so.
I was not, and probably will never be, as put-together like my friends and classmates, and I just realized that I will not be seeing them next year. I will meet new people. But I will not be part of their clique anymore, which sucked.
I am aware that I have the depth perception of a horse. I can only pay attention to a narrow field. When I am in the law school, of course I feel fully into it, and want to give up work because people around me have so much fun. Perhaps when I am at work, deep at doing something, I might also forget high school and focus on the work.
Mostly, I don't know whether it was a good thing that I cancelled out this huge part of the year only to give me respite for a month. I feel like I got silently labeled a coward by the people I was with there, when they found out I took out a LOA. I insulted the jealous mistress that is law, and wondering why I, a terribly hesitant suitor, would still want to be in the running to court her. I have proven myself unworthy and a turncoat and an unreliable person. Like I have not put myself through the fire, like I've not gone through the grinder.
OR I did, and it spit me out- two failed subjects. The other working students have not. Kill me. Kill me kill me kill me. They have passion, I have only ambition. IT is not a competition, but of course I was bound to lose.
I cannot have it if I don't want it. Such is the curse of a Leo.
But I also cannot just shove away the peaceful, correct feeling I felt that day in Binuangan, when I was on a boat with strangers who felt immediately like kindred souls, listening to music as we go through the waves. Shook like a soda can and sent off to study and talk and experience life with the natives, and only for one day. I had my Mercury return. Jupiter went back on its exact placement that day. So much water and yet I had sea legs. I felt at peace. I was so tired but it was easy for me to stay awake, to stay alert. To do what I needed to do. To say what I needed or wanted to say, and not feel like people didn't understand me.
It was an experience I could not shake off, and the feeling buoyed me for days. An entire month, even. And when I went back to law school I just could not do it anymore. I couldn't get there and read and sit in front of a camera to talk to something I was interested in but had no motivation to learn deeply other than an accolade. Meanwhile I could weather the days spent traveling and would gladly do it again and again, for short pay, if it meant I could do it again. I was honored to do the work. I felt fulfilled, and when I lacked something I wanted to work towards improving it. It felt like something renewing.
I am competent, and intelligent. At the end of the day, I also want to be a lawyer. But a calling is a calling, and when you are called to do something it gets pretty hard to ignore it.
I'm not wise or worldly enough to know if this calling is indeed a calling or just a delusion. Just a siren song that gets me through the rough day of being a law student. But I also know that if I don't try to explore this path fully I will regret it. It will be the one that got away- and I simply cannot have that.
I'm so scared. I already fucked up one grant. Well not fucked up completely. More like failed to deliver. My bark is loud but my bites are tender. As much as I feel honored and a bit in awe that people trust me to do this bit of work, I have never felt more inadequate and inexperienced and dumb than when I am there, even more so when I sit in class for law school. This is a dumb, dumb, decision, throwing away (putting off = throwing away) a YEAR of prestigious, privileged schooling just to chase some spiritual high. Or it could be a great year in my life. I don't know. All I know is that I feel old but I am young still and there's so much I do not know about myself or my capabilities.
People I love and trust (some fully, some only as far as I can lock the door on them) support me no matter what, which is a blessing that I do not ever want to take for granted. I just hope I live up to it.
