Folks, the development of Bad Summer has been going smoothly! We're aiming for a demo release Q4 of THIS year. Wish us luck on meeting that deadline! 😅

In Bad Summer, choices matter. We added quite a bit of gameplay segments to this VN, more than we originally planned. For a second, we were worried we bit off more than we could chew. We were ambitious, and the coding turned out to be quite complex. Everyday has been a learning process, and we're excited to announce we've been making strides. We want this game out ASAP, and every day we're working toward that goal, one string of code at a time. 🧑‍💻 Stay tuned for more updates, folks. Hey, everyone! If you have been eagerly awaiting a new gaming experience that will transport you to new dimensions of romance and horror, then search no further. "Bad Summer" is a captivating journey that promises to immerse you in a hauntingly beautiful narrative, filled with twists, turns, and unexpected encounters. We can't wait to introduce you to "Bad Summer," our upcoming visual novel and analog horror experience!

"Bad Summer" weaves a chilling tale in the form of a dark visual novel, blending elements of horror, mystery, and romance to create an eerie tapestry of the unknown. Play as Jenny, a teenage camp counselor fighting for her life as a deadly creature of unknown origins stalks her every move. Can you survive the dangers of Camp Bear Ridge summer camp and find love along the way?

Our visual novel has unique point-and-click adventure elements. Interact with objects and use/manage your inventory well to discover hidden lore and solve puzzles. Found a key in an inconspicuous location? Take it with you! Might be useful for later. Items stored in your backpack will help you progress through the game. Take it everywhere you go. Never know when you might need it.

Unlike normal point-and-click adventure games, "Bad Summer" has a big emphasis on romance. Our horror elements are inspired by successful visual novels such as The Letter and Doki Doki Literature Club. Our romance took inspiration from k-dramas, TV shows, and steamy best-selling fiction novels. Our storyline was also heavily inspired by interactive drama video games such as The Quarry and Halloween movies starring Jason Voorhees.

Expect jump scares, blood, gore, death, and analog horror sequences.

Although horror and unsettling themes is the primary focus in Bad Summer, this is a narrative-heavy game with choices, consequences, and multiple endings. Your decisions can either save lives or end them. The stakes are high in Bad Summer and you will find yourself constantly questioning who to trust.

Romance is a critical part of "Bad Summer", but we didn’t want our game to feel like an average dating simulator. Instead, when pursing a romantic interest in this game, there is no “right” or “wrong” choices. Converse with your love interest however you choose. Take a timid approach, speak with them from the heart, boldly make your advances, or shy away if you want to.

You won’t need to choose the right answers to romance a character in this game. No need for a guide or silly mini-games. Be yourself and you’ll find love regardless. You deserve it.

But you can only romance one and you’ll be locked in early in the game. (There will be a notification before you make the choice, don’t worry.) Choose wisely. Your life might depend on it.

"Bad Summer" is rated 18+ and is intended for a mature audience. This game includes violence, blood and gore, sexual themes, strong language, and discussions of death, grief, and depression. Jump scares too. Horror and distressing depictions go hand-in-hand. It is a core element of our game, and is not suitable for children. You’ve been warned.

Dev Blog #3 ♥

Although Bad Summer has quite a bit of romance elements, we pride ourselves on the horror elements too! Our game was not only heavily inspired by the Quarry, but also analog horror games like maple county, and also a fair share of creepypastas. We love the spooky stuff. That phone you see there? It's going to be quite essential to the gameplay loop we planning. We're excited to let you guys know more about that soon. REAL excited. Ready for a jumpscare? Keep reading.

This is one of the many horrifying faces making a grand debut in our analog horror section. Whether he'll make the final cut to the demo is to be determined. But God, is he ugly. And we absolutely love it. The lack of eyes and the creepy teeth literally makes our eyes burn. We're hoping players share the same sentiment. At least, that's what we're going for.

Heyo! Bad Summer devs here with our very first dev blog! Here's some expressions for Oliver, our favorite detective:

We plan to make more expressions for him soon. Some silly outfits as DLC would be cool, wouldn't it?

The majority of our script is written in Scrivener then transferred to Ren'py for coding. Here's a peak at the Analog Horror section, the most spooky part of the game. It's pretty eerie stuff in-game, with the right atmosphere, voice acting and music. You've all seen the Narrator in our trailer videos and character art, right? He's an unsettling guy for sure.

Weird and creepy, right? That's what we're going for. Follow us for more Bad Summer updates!

Hey everyone! Just a quick update on our upcoming game Bad Summer. We're thrilled to announce that we'll be releasing our first visual novel soon! This project has been a labor of love for our small team of just two developers. We've poured our hearts and souls into creating a game that we hope you'll enjoy.
