Top 5 Bollywood movies
I was definitely expecting this question and I predicted it was either you or Cookie but anyway feel free to take this list as a rec list, and it is integrated with gifs because I do be loving them.
1. Veer Zaara
Literally my most favourite movie on this goddamn planet. I would DIE for Veer and Zaara and this story and soundtrack were full bops and my heart is so full just thinking about it
2. Vivah
Another damn classic, definitely ahead of the times for 2006 hehe. Either way? Prem and Poonam were so cute, and you could visibly tell how much they love each other AND ALSO THAT HOSPITAL SCENE TAKES MY GODDAMN BREATH AWAY
3. Kal Ho Naa Ho
This has to be here. I watched this for the first time 15 years ago, and I watch it at least once a month if not more, and lemme tell you I sob like a baby EVERY SINGLE TIME. GODDD i loved them, though now that I’m older, I can recognize some of the unsavoury themes hehehe. (not to mention peak Shah Rukh Khan look)
4. Thappad
This was a recent movie I watched and I loved it, especially knowing that we have this toxic pattern that hitting your partner is okay (even if you do it only once) and Bollywood has kinda just perpetuated it. Because you start from one, and after that...it just grows. Anyway the women in this movie are so varied but the lead female role is *chef’s kiss*
(this scene was PIVOTAL to the movie where the lead says “it’s not about one slap, it’s about the mentality/disrespect”)
5. My Name Is Khan
This one is so relevant in today’s world. It’s about a Muslim man with Asperger’s navigating a post 9/11 world (right at the peak of Islamophobia), and how, when tragedy hits his family, he goes to prove that “my name is Khan, and I am not a terrorist.”
And some more: Happy Bhag Jaayegi, Maine Pyar Kiya, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Ram Leela, Jodhaa Akbar, Fitoor, Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi, Cocktail, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Baghban...and maybe Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge too.
Ask me my top 5 anything
#zee answers#i'm literally just recommending my favourite bollywood movies to anyone that will listen#and cj listens#so here we go#cj is amazing and i love her#ugh why is bollywood so good at aesthetics#Bollywood rec list

10 Iconic On-Screen Couples of All-Time
As someone who grew up watching the same romance tropes used over and over again, I can almost immediately figure out on which on-screen couples have actual chemistry or not and a big part of it comes from the couples friendship off-screen. Some of them are really solid while others just straight up despise each other, and these relationships really affect the way their characters interact on-screen. Here, I’ll discuss 10 on-screen couples that are just too good together (in my opinion!)
1. AMITABH AND REKHA
One of the most controversial couples of Bollywood, the Amitabh-Rekha formula was a hit after the film Do Anjaane (1976). Although the pair starred in 10 movies opposite each other, their most talked about movie with Jaya Bachchan was the 1981 film Silsila. The movie focused on a love triangle between Bachchan, his wife Jaya, and Rekha, and it was so controversial because many thought that it was a real life depiction of the three’s relationship. Although the pair haven’t collaborated after Silsila, they now seemed to have gotten over it and started respecting each other as they began greeting each other in award functions and whatnots.
2. SRK AND KAJOL
This duo is basically like two puzzle pieces; they fit perfectly! The actors paired up for the first time in the 1993 thriller Baazigar and went on to star in 8 more movies. Those include Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Karan Arjun (1995), and of course Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), which is the longest running Bollywood movie ever. Off-screen, they are very good friends that still talk and work with each other, which shows that they are very well connected and it helps in improving their characters’ chemistry. The romance and connection between them is so natural that you forget for a moment that they aren’t a real couple!
3. RAJ AND NARGIS
The oldest on-screen couple in this list, the successful actors were paired with each other for the first time in 1948′s Aag. Although the film did an average job in the box office, the pair did the 1949 film Barsat, which went on to be a hit. They then starred in many blockbusters together, including Shree 420 (1955), Awaara (1951), and Chori Chori (1956). Even though in most of their movies they ended up together, off screen the duo were having an affair for a long time. Nargis wanted to marry Raj, but he refused her proposal, sinking herself into depression before meeting her future-husband Sunil Dutt. If only singing in the rain could make the actors fall in love with each other in real life.
4. SRIDEVI AND ANIL
A very nostalgic couple in my opinion, they were showcased as a couple in the silver screen for the very first time in Mr. India (1987), even though they worked together in two films before this iconic one. They then went on to star in 10 movies together, with the most memorable one being 1991′s Lamhe. Sridevi went on to marry Anil Kapoor’s brother Boney Kapoor and take a 15-year-long hiatus from acting after 1997′s Judaai. On screen they were so comfortable together and a big part of it comes from the the actors real-life relationship. Many of the 80′s-90′s kids wished that they would collaborate again, but sadly it seems to be left as a dream after Sridevi’s untimely death.
5. AAMIR AND JUHI
Probably one of my favorite couples of all time, Aamir and Juhi starred together in the movie Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), which was a successful venture. The duo went on to star in movies like Ishq (1997) and Love Love Love (1989). Although on-screen the couple shared great chemistry, off-screen they weren’t really in good terms. According to Aamir, the petty fight started in the set of Ishq where Aamir would avoid Juhi at all costs. The actors didn’t get in touch for seven years and when they did, it was when Aamir was getting a divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta. The actors are now in talking terms and I seriously hope they do a movie together again.
6. VARUN AND ALIA
Hands down the generation’s most prominant on-screen couple is Varun-Alia. Both of them debuting in Student of the Year in 2012 with Siddharth Malhotra, the interviews they give together indicates a rock solid friendship between them. The duo continued starring alongside each other in Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania (2014), Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), and Kalank (2019), most of them being hits. Whats there not to love about them? Both of them are equally charming and they steal all your attention whenever they are on-screen. And even though they are the newest/youngest couple in the list, I can say undoubtedly that in the future years, they’ll star in more romantic blockbusters opposite each other.
7. SALMAN AND MADHURI
Let’s be honest: after the hit Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), you thought they were a match made in heaven. Although they starred in other movies before, this classic 90′s movie with a generic plot showed how much chemistry they have and its the kind that you don’t come across that often. In film promos, interviews, and reality shows it is apparent that the two actors have a very friendly relationship together. There is little to no hatred nor pettiness between them and they praise each other as artists whenever they can. They are basically the example of how memorable a movie can be if the right actors with a strong friendship are put opposite each other.
8. HRITHIK AND AISHWARYA
*sigh* Where do I even start? The two equally gorgeous stars were opposite each other for the first time in Dhoom 2 (2006), a film that lacked a good script but was saved by the performances and the connection of the duo. The public loved them together on the silver screen (even though they were very against their kissing scene), so two years later they were starred in the award-winning Jodha-Akbar (2008), one of the best period films Bollywood has to offer. Although their next film together, Guzaarish (2010), was a box office failure, it didn’t falter the friendship and respect both the actors have for each other. I really do hope that they will work in more films together soon.
9. KATRINA AND AKSHAY
Even though they have a prominent age gap between them (15 year, to be exact), there is no denying the fact that they work very well together. First paired up in Humko Deewana Kar Gaye (2006), they later on worked together in films like Namastey London (2007) and Singh Is Kinng (2008). Growing up in the 2000′s, I grew up watching their films with comedy and romance and the fact that they are gonna be back at it again with Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi (2020) just has me squealing with joy! Both the actors have grown so much (especially Kaif) and much of the growth comes from them learning from each other, which I have to commend to.
10. RANBIR AND DEEPIKA
One of the biggest reasons I love their dynamic is not just because they look cute together. It is because of how much they have grown and are willing to overlook each other’s differences. They started dating in 2007 and worked in their first film together, Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008). Ranbir cheated on Deepika 2 years later, which caused them to break up. The media treated the news like hot gossip and there are many outrageous theories made out there, but somehow the actors learned to persevere and continued to work in more films together. Yeh Jawani Hai Dewani (2013) and Tamasha (2015) both have great performances from both the actors and themes.

Alia Bhatt’s transition from Shanaya in “Student of the Year” to Vaidehi in “Badrinath ki Dulhania” has been remarkable. The actress had to flaunt her toned and athletic physique in recent appearances. The popular actress began to look good only later after filmmaker Karan Johar asked her to lose 20 pounds for her first film. The best actress went on to talk about how she followed those diets to stay slim and thus gave up on foods that are safe in the first place during a social media session with celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar. Alia Bhatt Diet Plan. She eats a six-to-seven-meal-a-day diet. Poha, eggs, and a breakfast sandwich are staples of her diet. In between meals, there are balanced snacks such as peanuts, makhanas, or vegetables. She eats dal, roti, Chawal, and salad for lunch, which she prepares herself. Curd rice is her go-to meal. Saffron Nimbu Paani and coconut water are her go-to post-workout drinks.

literally every romance movie i like is a buddy film in some way? jab we met, they’re traveling together, same with ddlj, band baaja baaraat they start a business together. badrinath ki dulhania has them looking for a groom in the first half and living together in the second. hum tum is an exception, i guess, but something about hum tum gives off a buddy film vibe too.

‘Mr Lele’ has been postponed indefinitely
Shashank Khaitan released a statement
Varun Dhawan re-tweeted it
New Delhi:
Just a little more than a month after Varun Dhawan’s Mr Lele was announced, director Shashank Khaitan confirmed that the film has been “postponed” indefinitely following a mutual decision between him, Varun and producer Karan Johar. In a statement on his social media accounts, the director revealed Mr Lele has been put on hold as dates couldn’t be worked out with the actors. “Hi guys, here is an update on Mr Lele. Karan, Varun and I have mutually decided to postpone the shooting of the film. It’s a script we all love and I’m sure will revisit soon. But scheduling the film was turning out to be very tough, as the film has a solid ensemble cast and the dates were just not falling into place,” read Shashank Khaitan’s statement. His post appears to be a prompt response to speculation that Mr Lele has been shelved, which did the rounds on the Internet Thursday morning.
Varun Dhawan re-tweeted Shashank Khaitan’s post:

— Varun Dhawan (@Varun_dvn) March 5, 2020
“I’m very sure Varun and I will collaborate soon, either on Mr Lele itself or on something new, as collaborating with him has always been the most joyful and fulfilling experience in my life,” he added. Mr Lele would marked Varun’s third collaboration with the filmmaker after working with him in 2014’s Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and 2017’s Badrinath Ki Dulhania.
The first look poster of Varun Dhawan as Mr Lele stirred up the Internet in January. Varun had described the film as “non-stop entertainment” then. Nothing more about the film’s cast was revealed.
On the work front, Varun Dhawan was recently seen in Street Dancer 3D. The shooting schedule for his next film Coolie No 1 has already been wrapped. Varun co-stars with Sara Ali Khan in Coolie No 1, which releases on May 1.

Varun Dhawan says he called Shashank Khaitan ‘109 times in two days’ after reading the script of Mr Lele - bollywood
Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan will soon be seen in Shashank Khaitan’s comic thriller Mr Lele, and the actor has said he called the filmmaker “109 times in two days” after reading the script. The film is likely to go on floors by March and will feature Janhvi Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles. Talking to Mumbai Mirror in an interview, Varun said, “Talks are on (for an action film), I’m looking to explore the comic thriller genre too in Mr Lele. After reading the script, I called Shashank 109 times in two days.” Shashank has earlier worked with Varun in his directorial debut Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, followed by its sequel Badrinath Ki Dulhania. Both films were huge successes at the box office. Also read: 83: Ranveer Singh shares first-look of Chirag Patil as dad Sandeep Patil, dubs him ‘a chip off the old block’. See picVarun is currently awaiting the release of his dance film, Street Dancer 3D and producer Bhushan Kumar has reportedly been planning to spin Street Dancer 3D into a franchise. Varun confirmed the franchise and told the tabloid, “There is an idea, but these films need to be done for the right reasons; like in this film, we dance for a cause. Remo keeps coming up with wonderful ideas and I’m sure after two dance films, Shraddha and I will do the next one together, with Nora joining the family too.” Asked about working with Salman Khan in a multi-hero film, Varun told the daily, “I have done them (two hero) already, from Dilwale to Dishoom and Kalank. You never know what can happen in the future. I’m ready to work Salman Bhai anytime.” Varun stepped into Salman’s shoes when he featured in the lead role in Judwaa 2, a reboot of David Dhawan’s 1995 hit Judwaa. Talking about getting back to the genre of entertainers after films like October, Badlapur and Kalank, Varun said, “Yeah, I’m getting back to the commercial child-friendly genre. I want to do such films the minute I start missing them. The timing is right for us because January has several important films on serious issues. I love being an entertainer, and making people smile is a big deal with our family. My dad’s films have always spread happiness too.” After Judwaa 2, Varun and David will team up for Coolie No 1 with Sara Ali Khan. “It’s not a remake actually, but more of an adaptation,” he corrects. “It’s a film for this generation though we have retained the screenplay, which was brilliant. Sara and I are trying to do what our seniors (Govinda and Karisma Kapoor) did in the original, under David Dhawan’s direction. It’s been a crazy ride.,” he said about the film.Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article

Deepika Padukone’s fan letter to Alia Bhatt will make you smile
Long gone are the days when Bollywood actresses couldn’t be friends. Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone are the latest BFFs in town. Their love was pretty evident when Alia was all praise for Deepika’s look in Padmavati trailer.
Alia had said in a podcast, "I’ve not seen the performance yet but I saw the trailer, I think Padmavati…. Deepika is Padmawati was just so fabulous and she just looked like so fabulous and I know I can never look like that or act like that.. she just looks like a Queen and I told her also ‘you are so lovely and so inspiring’ and I just know she is going to nail it in that film I just get that sense. I’m really looking forward to this one."

And now, Deepika has returned the favour by writing a heartfelt letter to Alia. In a promo for Lux Golden Rose Awards 2017, Alia can be seen receiving the letter from Deepika during a shoot. It reads:
Dear Alia,
Highway mein tum bina makeup ki bhi khoobsurat lagi, Lekin road par bitaye woh 52 mushkil din, kissi ko nazar nahi aaye, Alia tum ho sabse chotti, par mehnat karne mein sabse badi.’’
Your biggest fan, Deepika
Deepika has been getting a lot of praises for the first song Ghoomar from Padmavati. She is looking absolutely majestic and her dance is a treat to eyes. Ghoomar is a Rajasthani folk dance and the actress has perfectly nailed the steps. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmavati also stars Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles. The film is slated to release on December 1, 2017.
Alia, on the other hand, was last seen in Badrinath Ki Dulhania and she recently wrapped the shoot of Meghna Gulzar's Raazi, co-starring Vicky Kaushal.

Movies watched in Fall 2017
I’ve sort of finally got back to seeing movies, but keeping track of it is proving to be more difficult. This post, which will keep getting updated, will hopefully record all the movies I’ve being seeing this Fall, along with some mini-reviews.
Bollywood
1. Anaarkali of Aarah
A wonderful, wonderful film. For a movie about consent, it chooses wisely as its protagonist, a singer in a small town of songs, more risque than not. Anaarkali, with cherry red lips (or sometimes a shocking pink) moves around the town with a swag, laughing *with* the men in her life. Delighting in her singing, which is the talk of the town, conscious of its admiring gaze, bold as brass, hot as coals - Anaarkali. Trouble comes one evening on stage in her concert in the form of a well connected bueracrat who reeks of poetry and drink. And who in front of the audience, disregards her no until she hits back and stomps off the stage. The sting of power. The stench of fear. All make her see red. And lash out, with no second thoughts about the future. But the chase begins and Anaarkali runs, to a new city. Meets new people. And tries to start afresh. But, as always, to go ahead, one has to go back. And she returns. Not as a victim, preaching the need for consent. But as a goddess, dancing to her song finally. Boldly saying NO, when she wants. And making damned sure she's heard and listened to. And unlike Pink (or rather the big B) which preached (mostly to the choir), Anaarkali showed us a story. And also danced to it.
Ladies and gents, Anaarkali of Aarah!
2. Mohenjodaro
Unfortunately, I only saw half of this movie and fell asleep during the rest. I like Ashutosh Gowariker and Hrithik (was a big fan of Jodhaa Akbar), so I really wanted to like this movie... but it was just too slow for me. Maybe I will watch it another time when I am not in sleep-mode.
3. Chalte Chalte
4. Kabhi haan kabhi naa
5. Bareily ki barfi
Excellent rom-com
6. Humpty Sharma ki dulhania
7. Badrinath ki dulhania
8. Simran
9. A Gentleman
Excellent Indian-ish Grosse Pointe Blank
Kollywood
1. Vikram Vedha
2. Magalir mattum
3. Thupparivaalan
4. Nibunan
5. Spyder

1. Fidaa
2. Arjun Reddy
3. Nenu Sailaja
Malayalam movies
1. Oru mexican aparaadha
2. Angamaly diaries
Others
1. Auf der anderen Seite ist das Gras viel grüner
Cheesy but supercute movie about exploring grass on the other side by going back in time. Also new crush alert!
2. Die Reste meines Lebens
Does everything happen for a reason ...including death ? A slightly more emotional and gray movie about a man who loses his wife and thinks he has found love after it, because of it. I really liked the way the movie shifted back and forth seamlessly and grippingly. [A change from the way flash backs are depicted in most Indian cinema - via some character *narrating* it]
3. Eimall bittes alles
A movie about how life is far from being okay. It is hilarious and tragic and amazing. And with 'Damned and the beautiful' extracts used SO WELL. Also maybe this movie went down so well, because it features a young woman transitioning from University life to the chaos of life outside. From having friends around without any effort to finding it hard to keeping them around for a drink even. From having a purpose (however meaningless it might be) and a way to spend your every minute of time to drifting into this chaos where you are no longer sure whether you are being lazy/productive. When setting 'goals' becomes almost impossible because anything which is less than profound has to be discarded. Luise Heyer is wonderful in this one !
4. Going in style
Featuring your favourite octagenarians robbing their bank. One of the best recent heist movies. Also it is hilarious!
5. The circle, Lady Macbeth, The new Guy Ritchie movie about King Arthur Films I ended up 'sleep-watching' and feeling meh about
6. The shape of voice/A silent voice
To make mistakes is easy, to recognize them as mistakes is slightly harder, to live with the ensuing guilt is of course even harder. But truly, the hardest among it all is trying to change, become 'better', become a 'new' person and then fail. The shape of voice, is all about children trying to live with baggage. With the merciless knowledge about who they really are despite trying to change themselves. In some cases, desperately.
It starts with a bully, his friends and his victim in elementary school. It ends with them in high school. Things have changed, things have not changed ..the film is beautifully gray, but they are together. "What is a license to friendship ?" "It is beyond logic, my friend".. Each character was so well done, that all you feel is empathy and not repugnance. The shape of voice - was truly beautiful.
7. Obvious child
A stand up comedian gets pregnant after a one night stand and wants to do the obvious - abort the child. Spoiler alert : She does. That’s it really. Life is simple, after all. Which is what the lead in the movie finds out after a long list of heartbreaks, scares, trepidations, ambitions, misunderstandings. Being a prude mostly, some of the scenes took me a while to get used to (especially the ‘jokes’ in the stand up show), but when a film has a heart, it is not hard to warm up to it, despite the initial discomfort.
8. Dust in the wind
9. Having you
Not my favourite genre of movie (Life of a man and wife/girlfriend gets interrupted by a visit of a stranger from the past). But this might be among my favourite movies in this genre. The actors were great (I had it on my list because of Romola Garai). For such a story, it was remarkably well done. But again, this is not my favorite story.
10. Still walking
Watched 'Still walking' and basically loved each and every frame of it. I have graduated from Japanese anime #ahem There was Q and A session right after the movie and the interviewer ended with a long but brilliant question. "This film is not joyous but it isn't sad either. Melancholy isn't the right word to describe it either, nor bittersweet." (actually it has LOL moments throughout, so melancholy is totally not the mood of the movie) "It's hard to describe the feeling this movie leaves us with, but it is a very sharp feeling nevertheless.. Can you, as the director, describe what you want the viewer to take away from it all ?" Kore-Eda : "This film basically captures life AFTER all major events happen. There's a death, there are remarriages, there are upheavals, but none of which is shown in the movie. So at first glance, the surface of the lake is still. Yet, as the movie proceeds, you catch undercurrents. I wanted to show the viewers the ripples that one finds if one looks close enough"
11. Maborosi
12. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen

Judwaa 2 Song Oonchi Hai Building: Varun Dhawan Shows His Swag Still Nowhere Close To Salman
Oonchi Hai Building, reprised version of original Judwaa song has arrived at last. People have been waiting for the song and the lead actor Varun Dhawan has been teasing us with it for a very long time. For the first time, Varun Dhawan has stepped in to the shoes Sultan actor Salman Khan. He is certainly perfect for the role of Prem and Raja among the current crops of actors
Most anticipated song from the movie Judwaa 2 has released and we are completely hooked on to the song. It is pretty lame to compare the song to old one as Salman Khan is unmatchable. Nonetheless, the new song is good indeed. It may become a chartbuster like the original one also. Here, Varun has been romancing with his leading ladies in the movie. Chemistry of Varun with both the ladies Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez is quite awesome. Taapsee and Varun have been looking really cute with each other. Isn’t it so?
Oonchi Hai Building-Two pairs
By hearing the song, you may able to forget stress and tension to some extent certainly. For the Salman Khan fan, the song may not be good enough. They may appreciate the old version more than new one. However, Varun may not be considered as a misfit at all on the occasion. Some charm has been added to the song by Badrinath KI Dulhania actor Varun Dhawan also.
Salman has played both the lead Prem and Raja in the original Judwaa. Rambha and Karisma have been casted opposite him. Special appearance will be made by Salman in the movie Judwaa2. David Dhawan has directed the movie this time also. Release of the movie is expected on 29th September. In the movie, you may also see Vivaan Bhatena, Anupam Kher and Ali Asgar also.

Yeah, I can see bits of Haider’s house every now and then, I have a mini-meltdown in the Saat Soch posts when I recognise them (I get excited lol). And yeah, the dude IS from Pratigya – I had a quick look on Hotstar to confirm :D It makes me giggle that he’s playing a Mausa-ji in this one.
Is the Mama-ji from Pratigya as well! Wow!!
Avantika plays one of the sisters? I must admit I can’t see it, but then again I totally didn’t pick up that Alia’s mother in Badrinath Ki Dulhania played Arnav’s mother in some flashbacks, until @poomohan pointed it out …
Avantika was played by Priya Tandon, and as far as I can tell, the actresses who play the sisters in IPK3 are Shagun Sharma (Meghna) and Ketki Kadam (Shikha).
Am I missing something?
