Hey guys, I'm also participating in this one since I'm on home stretch with my current big project! I'll be offering three ficlets (500-1000 words) and one longer fic (5-10k).

Fandom Loves Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is in super bad shape. Hurricane Maria has destroyed entire towns, wiped out their electrical grid, trashed hospitals and roads. Right now, ten days after Maria made landfall, more than 40% of the island currently lacks access to drinking water and electricity - literally millions of people. It’s estimated that it will take up to six months to repair the electrical grid and get power back to the island. They will need sustained, committed aid.

How will this fundraiser work? Creators can sign up over here to auction off fics, art, meta, beta services, consulting, tutorials, anything! Then, we spend the next few weeks whipping social media into a frenzy about how awesome fandom charity auctions are, and how many frigging cool creators have signed up for this one! Then, the auction page will go live on Dreamwidth! Each offering will get its own comment post, and a frenzy of bidding will happen in the comment threads! The winners will have a set amount of time to send their creator proof of their donation. Once they’ve donated, the creator gets to work making cool shit! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy - the tried and true formula for fandom fundraising. Sign ups will be open until October 15th The auction will go live on October 21st, and close a day or so later.  Proof of donations must be sent by November 4th to claim your prize! 12. Any books that disappointed you?

Happy Isles of Oceania by Paul Theroux. I've read most of his travel writing and enjoyed a lot of it, but this one was very close to just getting chucked out, mostly because of his relentless descriptions of how fat the people he met were. Also he just generally complained about everything so fucking much that it got annoying lmaooo.

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton! I read it before I went to NZ, and was really impressed by how well the novel kept its big cast of characters together while unraveling the plot.

11. What was your favorite book that has been out for a while, but you just now read?

Freedom by Jonathan Franzen! My mom loved his books, but I never got into them until I picked up one for my holiday because it was thick. 😂 I really enjoyed the writing, I have his other books in my growing tbr pile.

I agree with Lena! I really want to thank all the mods for organizing this - definitely my best bang experience in fandom. I really felt cared for, was happy to meet new people through it, and came away from the bang with two fics I’m very satisfied about. I’ve signed up for next year too, and wholeheartedly recommend signing up if you missed this one, you won’t regret it!

I am pretty sure I already have sent you such a message some years ago, but damn, I need to say it again. Your story Leave Those Umbrellas At Home is perfection. I can't even count anymore how many times I have read it. one kudo is not enough... 1000 kudos are not enough. The only negative point about it, is that it is not 100k words. I love it so much.

I have to admit that I read very few newly released books, but maybe Elolliset by Ida Turpeinen because that taught me weirdly much about an extinct animal I'd never heard of but can now be sad about. 🥹
