SCHOOL STARTS IN T-1 DAY! I'm having an intense rush of emotions, none of which include stress or doubt. During my orientation this past week, one of the leaders gave us the best piece of advice I've probably ever heard. He started out by saying "I don't believe in stress, I haven't been stressed in at least 10 years," Now hearing that come out of a 2nd year medical student, I'm thinking "sir, what kind of drugs are you on?!" But then he finished off by saying "stress stems from fear and doubt--but I know myself well enough to know that I CAN do this, I WILL do this, and I'll do it as best as I can." He advised us to take time to truly believe in ourselves and our capabilities. We wouldn't be in these seats today, preparing for the first day of medical school if we really couldn't do it! SO, a note to my fellow new comers to medical school and all other schools, back to school season can be filled with many negative emotions, but always remember that you're meant to be where you are! YOU MADE IT! Don't forget that you are capable of exceeding beyond all expectations! I love this new advice that I just received and I really want to try to embed that positive mentality throughout my medical journey. I hope this advice is helpful for anyone reading. If anyone has some really great advice they've gotten about starting something new, taking a big step, or even finding ways to avoid stress/negativity, I'd love to hear it!
