Me: Hey, I finished that dress I've been planning to make since last May.
My mother, silently grateful my first summer dress of the year is not covered in manic cartoon animals: Oh that looks lovely... Though don't you think you put a bit much fabric into your skirt? You could have used half and had enough left for a second dress.
Me: It's more comfortable this way. Not as clingy. And it's cut to be low waste, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Mom: ... How much is in there?
Me: Only like 4 meters.
Mom: Of a low waste pattern.
Me: Yup.
Mom: Give me one reason you need that much "bang for your buck".
Me:
#sewing#skirt is Salix by Unendlich Schön#lengthened by a full 30 cm#because yolo#bodice is from the Riviera dress by Lotte & Ludwig#straight neckline and no fake button placket#fabric is Aina from IKEA#and a lil square of jersey in the back#you're supposed to not wash the linen on normal#and don't put it in the dryer#whoops#it's now soft as a cloud#skirt go spinny#I might need to get more of this fabric#also 10/10 would recommend just straight up replacing a back panel with jersey instead of putting in a zipper#you do have to gather (part of) your skirt onto elastic but that's still more idiot proof to sew or wear than an elastic#and yes#there's pockets#smaller than intended#but still plenty big for my phone and wallet#i then showed my creation to a sewing friend who loves skirts that are knee length or higher#she said she would immediately wear that dress if it were half as long#GOOD NEWS#it's supposed to be#and you can even make it a patchwork pattern#we're not gonna talk about how long this took to hem#pictures taken outside because it was the first warm day of the year#and also because I can't spin it safely while indoors#i could remake it in manic cartoon but it would cost at least twice as much

This LBP figurine survived my young self.
I wish I was more careful with it tho :,(
#she isn't broken#but her dress is a bit cracked and her zipper falls off sometimes#fun fact: I thought that I had lost her zipper years ago until some months ago my mom revealed she had saved it all this time#I was so happy I could have that damn zipper back#:']#I totally forgot I gave it to her when I was a kid

Getting this up as I am so thrilled with how the leaves and acorns came out as well as show the plaid I have for @azirtheshark :') I have a lot of the fabric still to make more plush doll outfits with too X3 As mentioned, this plaid is absolutely giving off autumn beach house vibes with the colors alone X3 I hope you like this plaid too and looking forward to making the autumn outfit for Ryver :')
#My Art#Art#WIP#Sewing#Doll Clothing#Acorns#Oak leaves#Jumper Dress#Plaid#I'll be sewing a zipper to the front of the outfit once I get back#Also I seriously love this plaid color combination#Why can't we have more plaids like this?

at my friend's wedding last october
#happy for her and her husband and it was a really nice wedding too... K came with me and i was so happy to show him off to everyone#halfway through dinner my zipper broke (zara quality) and my friend E who sat next to me happened to have an extra dress with her that was#silver too#so we snuck away to the bathroom and i changed into her dress. and when we came back no-one at the table even noticed that i was wearing#something new#actually my favourite memory of that day. and dancing with K and him glancing at me looking so shy#photo journal

I'm currently sewing a dress & yesterday I realized that I've intentionally made virtually every aspect of the process more difficult (fabric is plaid that needs to be matched, keyhole back changed to invisible zipper, zipper then requires a facing be changed to a lining, added piping to the collar & hem, etc.). I've also decided to bang out a last-minute Xmas sweater that involves carrying 3 colors for most of the knitting. Lots of questions for past me.
#I think this dress may be the project that cures me of sewing with plaids#I really do not enjoy pattern matching or knitting w/3colors#given which one might very reasonably ask why I undertook garments that require them#I do not know#I think pattern matching may be kind of like childbirth#ie if you wait long enough doing it again seems like a good idea#however in my defense I will note that the pattern matches flawlessly across the back zipper#including at the bottom of the zip#as well as at the shoulders & skirt sides#so I may be insane(r) now but at least I got the desired result#re: the sweater the 3rd color is red so if I omitted it that would really kind of kill the Xmas vibe#having written all this out I'm starting to see why my mood has not been great the last few weeks#nothing like spending hours a day doing something you find just a little too challenging#to wear your psyche down to a stubby pencil

I finally got myself to eat for the first time today, now it's- honestly, it's probably still fine for you bitches. I'm tired, I'm not gonna do much today.
#screaming into the void#hey did you know#youre legs arent supposed to get purple and mottled when you stand for long periods#or that your tongue should reach the roof of your mouth when fully open#or that not everyone can fold up their earlobe and put it in their ear like an earplug#or that your not supposed to get lightheaded while standing#or that your shoulders shouldn't frequently pop or have minor loss of range of motion till they pop then youre fine again#or that your ribs and sternum shouldnt pop at all#or that brittle and felixble nails as well as frequent heartburn can be symptoms of hypermobility#did you know that being able to partially dislocate a joint isnt a party trick that everyone can do#did you know that your knuckle isnt meant to bend inward when you write#or that when you swallow its not normal for some of it to get up your nose (yes i have this even with food before)#or that most people cant reach every spot on their own back or need help with zippers in thr back of dresses#i'm so tired of learning things guys

#I might delete this later but I'm feeling a bit disheartened and want to just put this out there into the world but not super publicly#But like#The worst part of being overweight in my opinion is that it's so so hard to feel cute or pretty or even decent looking#I'm going to Japan with my older brother next week and I've been curating a cutesy Lolita-esque style outfit for the trip and I finally#got the last of the pieces so I tried it all on. And it's just... no matter how hard I try I can't really see myself as cute in it#I don't know maybe pink isn't my color and this just isn't my style. But.#I tried really hard to make an outfit I'd feel cute in and it's devastating to not really see myself as cute#And it's not really that I think I look bad per se it's just...#I don't know#Not what I wanted it to be I guess#And I know that if I posted pictures people would say ''wow you look great!!!'' because people always say that kind of thing#But I'd always think they were lying or were playing it up#Even if they really weren't#I just wanted to feel cutesy and everything and it hurts somewhere deep inside to not feel that way#I'll still wear the outfit in Japan since I spent enough time and money on this outfit but it really dampens my enthusiasm#And this wasn't the first time I've tried on the dress obviously. I've been trying it on periodically all along#But I kept hoping that once it was done and I had the makeup all on maybe I'd finally be able to see myself as cute#But no#I still don't. Not really.#It doesn't help that the dress itself doesn't even fit properly#I got it on sale which is what sparked this whole idea in the first place and it was always a size too small#It never zipped properly but I was able to work around that with an outer corset that held it closed#And a lace shrug that helped hide the weird bunching in the back#I can sometimes get the dress zipped now since I've lost a little weight#But it's a struggle and I can only do it about half the time and it feels like I'm going to break the zipper each time#I'd think to buy a new dress but a) that would cost even more money and I've already spent way more than I had wanted in my endeavor#to feel cute in this dress. And b) all of the accessories are tailored to this dress specifically#It would be hard to find a good replacement and there is no guarantee that would even help#So I just... I don't know#It's just hard.

17 and 18 for the ask game!
Thank you anon! ૮₍˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶₎ა ♡
17: what's a brand you don't own many things from but would like to?
Victorian Maiden and Mary Magdalene! I only recently got my first VM piece and don’t own anything from MM but I really love their prints and design aesthetic. Their coats are really gorgeous too! Chocochip cookie is another super underrated brand I’d love to own pieces from. They appeared a lot in older GLB’s but aren’t super well know today :(
(left to right: VM’s Rococo Bouquet OP, MM’s Morgane OP, chocochip cookie brand features from GLB 18-19 [Autumn-Winter 2005])
18: what's the best feature a dress could have?
Detachable sleeves! XD
Probably just anything that allows versatility with how you wear it- detachable sleeves, neck ties, skirts that can be buttoned open, detachable bows, skirts that can be bustled up or left down… I love having lots of options for how you can style a single dress. Unfortunately the detachability means these pieces get lost easily :( plain white detachable sleeves are pretty easy to replace with any other pair but lost neck ties and bows make me really sad, it took me forever to find a Strawberry Fields OP that wasn’t missing the neck ties! Crossed neck ties is one of my favorite things on oldschool pieces <3
(The second-best feature is shirring. I hate so much when brands don’t put shirring in dresses that could definitely have it… IW at least tends to do multiple sizes but AP constantly makes unshirred OP’s with back zippers that could have had back shirring and an underarm zipper and I hate it)
#askbox#mine#chocochip cookie my beloved I’m so sorry#they don’t even have their own ‘brand’ tag on lolibrary it’s just in additional tags#really want more vm/mm stuff but it’s rare AND expensive 😭#chocochip cookie is just rare#also I’m sick to death of people losing detachable dress pieces omg#like do you not store them together?? or do you not have a separate place where you store all your sleeves/neckties? I don’t get it#also if shirring truly ruins the look of your piece just make it bigger and add corset lacing it’s not that hard#and instead AP is like ‘nah back zipper and 90cm bust is fine’#good luck unzipping yourself though once you’re in there…#underarm zippers are always superior for this reason to me I don’t have to do yoga to get out of my dress

my former neighbor and i were staring at the moon together last night and he asked if it was waxing or waning and because im hard to get along with i was like "how would i know? im not a moon expert" and he was like "i don’t know you seem like you’d know about the night sky. you have that witchy black dress with the stars on it. i mean, i like that dress. it’s a great dress. but it’s something a witch would wear." and i can’t decide whether that’s mean or the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me tbh
#it is a great dress. it’s a floor length maxi dress with wide ruffle straps and it’s black and covered in little white stars#and it fits me perfectly like it hits exactly right at the waist and it’s exactly the right size which is never true of dresses for me#i got it at goodwill and it’s great#except that it has a really long zipper down the back and this is a church dress so i sit at the pew with a zipper boring into my skin#it’s not particularly witchy though#he just doesn’t understand clothes

at a complete loss bc i bought a dress and the zipper went off track like i was pretty sure it would fit but i can't say for certain now and it's not my fault bc other reviews mentioned a faulty zipper but i went to look at returning and it didn't mention exchanging or whatever and even choosing the damaged item option it indicated having to pay to ship it back which is bullshit you should not only pay for it yourself imo you should also send me the item again if i so desire but WHATEVER like okay i can return it to the store but i really would like the option of getting a new one that is hopefully not broken OR even them paying for what it would take for a tailor to fix it (which i have no idea how much that would be but i imagine a lot lmao tailoring is EXPENSIVE) and that's the other thing like. i could keep it and get it fixed i guess but that's gonna make the cost of the dress so much more skjdfkjs like i got an okay deal on it but nothing like spectacular that the cost of repairs would feel worth it out of my own pocket
#seriously though. damaged item? at min i should not have to pay 8 dollars to send it back#especially when it's clearly on you if multiple people had issue with the zipper#i fucked aorund a little but with those tiny dress zippers i simply do not think it is possible to fix myself

Don't mind me, I'm just over here trying on the sixth fucking front-bodice muslin that I've made for this godforsaken dress and finally having an "IT FITS!!!! IT FITSSSSSSSSSS" moment
#problem 1: made the wrong cup size. I went wrong here by using the fucking size chart to pick a size#problem 2: bust apex is in the wrong spot. I went wrong here by using the fucking pattern as designed#problem 3: bust apex is in a different wrong spot. I went wrong here by not being able to use a fucking tape measure apparently#problem 4: bust apex finally right!! but the dart length isn't right and also this bodice is boring. Went wrong here by being too picky#problem 5: rotated all darts into a shoulder gather with front yoke. went wrong here by underestimating HOW MUCH FABRIC is hidden in darts#mockup 6: rotated side dart back into place and it's is FINALLY in a state I like it and I honestly could cry of relief#time to cut out the whole mockup instead of just this one piece over and over again lmao#sewing is fun!! I said#I'll sew myself a dress for my brother's wedding this summer even though I'm still a beginner!! I said#what could go wrong?! I said#my only saving grace is that it's a wrap dress and I won't have to sew in any zippers or buttons lmao

sighing bc this dress is going to look amazing - but wrapping my head around these instructions is going to kill me.
#got the front pannel attatched to the front side pannels#and the two back pannels are attached to the side back pannels#the hard part for me rn in the collar part which i'm not understanding at all#need to do the back seam and zipper#and the top and side seams#when that's done i will have a dress with no sleeves#which means i need to do the sleeves#but um the pattern i'm on rn is actually galadriel's white dress from the hobbit lol#the sleeves are. not. part of that dress. different pattern#BUT THIS WILL BE MY MEDIEVAL FAIR OUTFIT FROM NOW ON SO IT'LL ALL BE WORTH IT IN THE END#nemo sews
