Me: Hey, I finished that dress I've been planning to make since last May.
My mother, silently grateful my first summer dress of the year is not covered in manic cartoon animals: Oh that looks lovely... Though don't you think you put a bit much fabric into your skirt? You could have used half and had enough left for a second dress.
Tumblr media
Me: It's more comfortable this way. Not as clingy. And it's cut to be low waste, so you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Mom: ... How much is in there?
Me: Only like 4 meters.
Mom: Of a low waste pattern.
Me: Yup.
Mom: Give me one reason you need that much "bang for your buck".

Getting this up as I am so thrilled with how the leaves and acorns came out as well as show the plaid I have for @azirtheshark :') I have a lot of the fabric still to make more plush doll outfits with too X3 As mentioned, this plaid is absolutely giving off autumn beach house vibes with the colors alone X3 I hope you like this plaid too and looking forward to making the autumn outfit for Ryver :')

I'm currently sewing a dress & yesterday I realized that I've intentionally made virtually every aspect of the process more difficult (fabric is plaid that needs to be matched, keyhole back changed to invisible zipper, zipper then requires a facing be changed to a lining, added piping to the collar & hem, etc.). I've also decided to bang out a last-minute Xmas sweater that involves carrying 3 colors for most of the knitting. Lots of questions for past me.

#I might delete this later but I'm feeling a bit disheartened and want to just put this out there into the world but not super publicly#But like#The worst part of being overweight in my opinion is that it's so so hard to feel cute or pretty or even decent looking#I'm going to Japan with my older brother next week and I've been curating a cutesy Lolita-esque style outfit for the trip and I finally#got the last of the pieces so I tried it all on. And it's just... no matter how hard I try I can't really see myself as cute in it#I don't know maybe pink isn't my color and this just isn't my style. But.#I tried really hard to make an outfit I'd feel cute in and it's devastating to not really see myself as cute#And it's not really that I think I look bad per se it's just...#I don't know#Not what I wanted it to be I guess#And I know that if I posted pictures people would say ''wow you look great!!!'' because people always say that kind of thing#But I'd always think they were lying or were playing it up#Even if they really weren't#I just wanted to feel cutesy and everything and it hurts somewhere deep inside to not feel that way#I'll still wear the outfit in Japan since I spent enough time and money on this outfit but it really dampens my enthusiasm#And this wasn't the first time I've tried on the dress obviously. I've been trying it on periodically all along#But I kept hoping that once it was done and I had the makeup all on maybe I'd finally be able to see myself as cute#But no#I still don't. Not really.#It doesn't help that the dress itself doesn't even fit properly#I got it on sale which is what sparked this whole idea in the first place and it was always a size too small#It never zipped properly but I was able to work around that with an outer corset that held it closed#And a lace shrug that helped hide the weird bunching in the back#I can sometimes get the dress zipped now since I've lost a little weight#But it's a struggle and I can only do it about half the time and it feels like I'm going to break the zipper each time#I'd think to buy a new dress but a) that would cost even more money and I've already spent way more than I had wanted in my endeavor#to feel cute in this dress. And b) all of the accessories are tailored to this dress specifically#It would be hard to find a good replacement and there is no guarantee that would even help#So I just... I don't know#It's just hard.

17 and 18 for the ask game!
Thank you anon! ૮₍˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶₎ა ♡
17: what's a brand you don't own many things from but would like to?
Victorian Maiden and Mary Magdalene! I only recently got my first VM piece and don’t own anything from MM but I really love their prints and design aesthetic. Their coats are really gorgeous too! Chocochip cookie is another super underrated brand I’d love to own pieces from. They appeared a lot in older GLB’s but aren’t super well know today :(

(left to right: VM’s Rococo Bouquet OP, MM’s Morgane OP, chocochip cookie brand features from GLB 18-19 [Autumn-Winter 2005])
18: what's the best feature a dress could have?
Detachable sleeves! XD
Probably just anything that allows versatility with how you wear it- detachable sleeves, neck ties, skirts that can be buttoned open, detachable bows, skirts that can be bustled up or left down… I love having lots of options for how you can style a single dress. Unfortunately the detachability means these pieces get lost easily :( plain white detachable sleeves are pretty easy to replace with any other pair but lost neck ties and bows make me really sad, it took me forever to find a Strawberry Fields OP that wasn’t missing the neck ties! Crossed neck ties is one of my favorite things on oldschool pieces <3
(The second-best feature is shirring. I hate so much when brands don’t put shirring in dresses that could definitely have it… IW at least tends to do multiple sizes but AP constantly makes unshirred OP’s with back zippers that could have had back shirring and an underarm zipper and I hate it)

my former neighbor and i were staring at the moon together last night and he asked if it was waxing or waning and because im hard to get along with i was like "how would i know? im not a moon expert" and he was like "i don’t know you seem like you’d know about the night sky. you have that witchy black dress with the stars on it. i mean, i like that dress. it’s a great dress. but it’s something a witch would wear." and i can’t decide whether that’s mean or the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me tbh

at a complete loss bc i bought a dress and the zipper went off track like i was pretty sure it would fit but i can't say for certain now and it's not my fault bc other reviews mentioned a faulty zipper but i went to look at returning and it didn't mention exchanging or whatever and even choosing the damaged item option it indicated having to pay to ship it back which is bullshit you should not only pay for it yourself imo you should also send me the item again if i so desire but WHATEVER like okay i can return it to the store but i really would like the option of getting a new one that is hopefully not broken OR even them paying for what it would take for a tailor to fix it (which i have no idea how much that would be but i imagine a lot lmao tailoring is EXPENSIVE) and that's the other thing like. i could keep it and get it fixed i guess but that's gonna make the cost of the dress so much more skjdfkjs like i got an okay deal on it but nothing like spectacular that the cost of repairs would feel worth it out of my own pocket
