Weekly Update September 13 2024

So I’m a different kind of sick today, it’s a normal cold instead of my weird congenial bs. Today is day 2 of the cold so it’s at its worst and i should be better tomorrow but I will most likely be playing games. Im a bit worried if I’m going to get that WOTW video done by my deadline of Halloween, but I have a plan.

Other than visual arts I have been working on music a bit as well, mainly finishing up vocals for BATB and the redo of WOTW. If you see me forget to capitalize the word i in this post that’s why, I’ve been doing it on mobile because the mobile editor is great. BATB is so close to done and I’m so excited because that one means the most to me, and i think it sounds the best so far as well. I don’t know if I’ll sit on it at all once it’s done or just drop it right away and do a video another time. I’m considering doing that with some of the songs I’m sitting on but I want to at least get a cover for them done.

Also some good melody writing and planning my secondary comic, since that one has more to do with music (although music is still very central to both). Decent amount of progress on the O’Malley comics as well, I’m getting faster which is great, it’s almost a third done now! I would work on it tonight but am sick.

WOTW and OEB videos: I’m getting back into the swing of animation and have a plan to speed up the frame-by-frame stuff that’s left for WOTW. I have an idea for how to shade as well but i think I’ll leave that to be tested in a smaller project. Really not a lot to say other than it is coming along.

Epithet TTRPG: i got another map done but unfortunately thats kinda it. Some more NPC designs too, but no actual tokens. I have a few tokens half finished but again i need to stop being sick in order to work on them. It’s coming along though i was more worried about maps than anything else.

Next week we ball, I’m being considered now for three different job positions in the field i want to go into, hoping i can snag one soon, but for now I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing.

i'm back on my batb musical analysis bs because i've been listening to the soundtrack for like the thousandth time and i'm remembering how much of a masterpiece "If I Can't Love Her" is.

first off, the song is Adam's theme, and it's also the main theme of the entire movie. Those beginning notes right before the prologue are incorporated into Adam's song, and it works so perfectly.

second, "If I Can't Love Her" is such a heartbreakingly tragic song, it's about Adam's desperation to find love and break the curse. it's a song that tells the audience that, while Adam wants to be able to love Belle, he's not sure how to, and he's entirely positive that Belle will never love him in return.

No passion could reach me No lesson could teach me How I could have love her and made her love me too If I can't love her, then who?

this song going from Adam's desperation to his heartbreak, finally learning to love and, though he knows he can break the curse, letting Belle go because of that love, and being selfless.

No hope she would do so No dream to pursue, so I looked to myself, despise all the things I see For I know that she Cannot set me free Let the world be done with me

While Belle's reprise of "Home" was used to show how she's changed, and reveal her love for Adam, his song is used at the very end of the show, at the finale. that same melody is used to show that Adam's learned to love, it's not longer a melancholy song that shows his despair and heartbreak, it's triumphant, and the way it's sung as a duet makes it feel like it was supposed to be a duet the entire time, and that Adam just had to wait for the right person to sing it with.

Two lives have begun now Two hearts become one now One passion, one dream One thing forever true I love you!

just... Adam's theme going from heartbreaking, desperate, and tragic to being this joyful proclamation that yes, he was able to break the curse, he was able to fall in love, and Belle loves him back and cares about him just as much as he cares about her!

Power. Cersei’s true love is power. Jaime is viewed as the male version of herself, and she resents that she wasn’t born a man. She believes she has to use men to do the deeds she’d like to carry out on her own, to gain power in the patriarchy.

Since she views them as the same, he is her sword, representing her warrior half that she was unable to be (until ASOS lmao which is why she starts getting angry). At one point, she gets irritated by Jaime rejecting her wishes, and she begins to think he’s just getting in the way. But then she realizes she needs him, not being able to trust the others. He will either save her or they die together.

Even in her exhausted, frightened state, the queen knew she dare not trust her fate to a court of sparrows. Nor could she count on Ser Kevan to intervene, after the words that had passed between them at their last meeting. It will have to be a trial by battle.

But he burned her pleas for help and won’t be her champion because... he’ll be with Brienne, where ever the fuck that is (prayer circle for Quiet Isle), and has been for several weeks already. People believe the point of the prophecy is that it’s Cersei making it happen. This fits. Instead of loving Jaime for who he is while he started rediscovering his identity, Cersei pushed him away with her violent outbursts and nasty words, making it clear she was disgusted by his stump and who he was becoming. Therefore, when she sent her plea for help, he was like lmao no and then he ran off with Brienne to help her and Sansa instead. (The Sansa bit is a lie unless Brienne’s plan is to literally save him from LSH by having him help her find Sansa. Anyway, off topic haha).

I want to make it clear, though, that Brienne isn’t stealing Jaime. I know the prophecy says, “take all that you hold dear,” but that “take” is her sword, not Jaime as a person. He isn’t an object someone can take. Although, Cersei certainly views him as one, so she may perceive it as “take.”

There’s a misconception that Brienne changed Jaime, but that’s not what happened at all. After Jaime lost his swordhand he was essentially thrown into a path of self discovery. 

And Jaime, losing a hand, losing the very thing he defined himself on is crucial to where I think I want to go with the character. And he questions what do you make of yourself if you’ve lost that.” - GRRM [x]

Brienne didn’t change him, and in the books she isn’t “driving his redemption arc.” (God don’t even get me started on that hot take). What she did do was convince him to keep on living and reminded him of the person he used to be. Like that’s kinda how life works... people inspire other people, but apparently in this fandom a female role model for a male character is problematic, and they aren’t allowed to fall in love lol. Anyway, all of that work came from Jaime himself, going back to who he truly is, for himself.

Jaime didn't start out evil--that he actually was a very idealistic young man who was disillusioned by life, and that there was always much more to his killing of Arys than just "evil." [x]

So Brienne’s isn’t “taking” Jaime, he just would rather give his help to her than to Cersei, because she treats him with respect, and he made an oath. He could have said, “I know I made an oath, but I trust you to see it through. I have one hand, so I’d be of no use.” One-handed Jaime went, not just for the oath, but to give his help. He didn’t bother to help Cersei. If he truly cared about Cersei’s fate, he would have desperately tried to help in some form, even if he couldn’t be her champion. Trying to save her life would have been first priority. But... he’s tired of her bs. This is partly how Cersei pushed him right into Brienne’s arms, creating the YMB herself. 

And honestly? Cersei does love Jaime (but loves him to the extent a narcissist can love). This bit in the prophecy is interesting. 

Anger flashed across the child’s face. “If she tries I will have my brother kill her.” -CERSEI, AFFC

People argue that since she’s causing the prophecy to happen, then this quote points to Dany or Sansa, because Jaime’s allegiance has shifted due to her actions. Ignoring how I find it absolutely ridiculous that GRRM would have it be literal beauty when beauty is a theme for Cersei (and readers) to learn a lesson from, and that it would be basic as hell that he would want the readers (and Cersei) to go back and forth over “who’s the fairest of them all” (subversive BatB/Snow White hybrid), I’m... still not denying that possibility. I do believe Dany and Sansa are good candidates.

HOWEVER, I feel the irony is sweeter if the reason why Jaime won’t kill the YMB is because Jaime is in love with the woman she’d want to have killed lol. I’m not even sure Cersei would connect the dots if Brienne is YMB (because of the quote I’ll be addressing down the page a bit).

What’s also telling that Cersei holds Jaime dear (because... male her and therefore her perceived path to power), is that her friend states she wants to marry Jaime. Her friend expressing that she wants to marry Jaime became a threat, because she had just learned about the YMB, which can imply that Jaime is very much connected to what she holds dear, and possibly connected to the YMB through romance and marriage. So, she pushes her down the well to eliminate one candidate for YMB. 

Cersei had not had a friend she so enjoyed since Melara Hetherspoon, and Melara had turned out to be a greedy little schemer with ideas above her station. - CERSEI, AFFC

Then, years later,

“A woman?” Cersei stared at him, uncomprehending. “What woman? Why? Where did they go?”

Hunger Games Characters I picture in Disney  Characters. 

Katniss  I Put her with Merida ( Brave) Belle ( BATB)  Meg ( Hurcules) Elsa (Frozen). 

Why Merida. Well shes good with the bow and arrow ( I actually haven’t seen Brave fully so I don’t know much about her). 

Belle. Both are strong willed women Willing to do anything for family.  Both have no choice but to stay where they are “captured” both are like if I have a will to live through this I’m not gonna go down without a fight. Both have 2 men after their hearts, Both know how to survive on their own if needed.   She learned to fall in love with a beast. 

Meg.  This is more the love side  for Katniss. The Song I wont say I’m in love is basically Katniss’s theme song. Like she wont admit it she loves Peeta but girl we all know.. 

Elsa. In a way Katniss did shut out Prim to protect her. She didn’t want to hurt her sister strong willed to protect her sister at all cost.  Plus I know Cinna is to credit for this but her mockingjay outfit *Chefs kiss* plus they wear their hair the same. 

Peeta.  Hercules  Kristoff ( Frozen) Kovu ( Lion King 2)  The Beast (BATB)

Hercules he’s strong. But he literally gave up everything for love. Which is so Peeta. 

Kristoff. Okay this one both  have such a charm that attracts everyone. Tho both have obessions and flaws So they are a bit of fixer uppers.  But both are somewhat accpecting to the fact  I will wait until you make your choice. Both have kind and sweet hearts.  Both are kultzy but pull it off like a champ.  ( And Katniss didn’t fall in love with a man she just met. They knew each other since the age of 5) But Never truely met until the games. 

Kovu. Hes the sexiest damn thing. In Disney characters I freaking swear  He has a way with his words. Charming.  Loyal tho. He is willing to go against his families ( whos kinda a bunch of ya know bad guys) for Love and whats right. So Peeta. 

The Beast. This is Peeta in Hijacked Form ( Some parts). Besides the totally Hitting on Belle part. We all know deep down the love he had for Katniss never left. He never stopped loving her.  Not based on how good she looked but who she is.  Plus A Kiss broke the spell.  Also he had a bit of charm in his hijacking but so much anger and Katniss was the only one who could truely break him outta it.  Also I was hoping that He would of said so you came to look at the beast have you. 

Finnick  King Triton ( Little Mermaid)  Maui ( Moana) Flynn Rider ( Tangled) Aladdin. 

Kin g Triton. Well for that  Trident comes in handy.  ( The king is kinda a jerk why are most fathers in disney movies total jerks I’ll never know) But I hope that Finnicks son at least knows what a fork is compaired to a freaking trident ( and doesn’t use it as a hair brush) man that was stupid. Both are basically the big shot of  where they live.  Both  love water live  near or in water... ( What they hell do they eat under the sea ?) 

Maui. Okay Finnick is a bit of a show off a little.  Not his fault hes so damn good looking.  Both have that sarcasm that makes you laugh but your like oh my god please stop. Both have there  if Finnick had a song It would be your welcome. But still so much we never know about them both.  

Flynn Rider.  Okay  well both just have the certain personality that is strangely Alike.  Both know how to fight if needed. Both  are like well the ladies are okay but not intrested until they find the one..  Both have their charm.  ( Plus I love Flynn rider). 

Aladdin. We know that Finnick has a huge part of him he never opened up. Before when he spilled what the real price to winning is. That was not everything. There is a part that  Beetee said If you knew Finnick it’s amazing he’s still with us at all. So hes been though it.  

Johanna  Bo Peep ( Toy Story 4)  Mulan  and Mulans Grand mother ( Mulan) Tiana (Princess and the Frog) 

Bo Peep. From the first toy story to the 4th one Bo peep has changed a lot. ( Kinda like Johanna from  after her games to who we met in Catching fire) Tho a lot of them is still there that hasn’t changed. But their will to fight. and that they dont take BS as an answer.  That they  both may look weak but inside them so much more then that. ( I was shocked to see Bo Peep kinda like Johanna in toy story 4). Not scared of a little fight and blood.  Frankly I’d be worried that they both would try to kill someone in their sleep.

Mulan. I love in movies where the weakest person goes to the strongest like that. Totally Johanna.  And they are the girl worth fighting for I see more of her in Johanna then Katniss because  Johanna went from faking being weak to deadly like that. Where as katniss she didn’t hide it at all really. Plus if this wasn’t a disney movie i would of love to say what Mulan would of said  when they found out shes a girl really.  But both are bad ass females. Who really had no choice to go into this ( Mulan had to save her father Johanna got picked to be in the games) 

Mulans Grandmother ( I didn’t realize I did this) But I Johanna’s humor she says what she wants and no damage. They don’t ruin the moment they make the moment 100 times better. 

Tiana. She was totally fine not finding love ( But its disney she did) I really like her will to not give up no matter how many changes are thrown at you.  and  tolerting her best friend but I freaking love Charlotte She is the one who knows what to say in a moment where no one else would understand basically the girl talk that Katniss hates but we all have it in us. 

Prim  Repunzel ( Tangled) Baymax ( Big Hero 6)  Anna ( Frozen) 

Lets Ignore the fact that I brought up 2 of these lovers before to other characters 

Repunzel  The healing part Prim has it is in her born with it.  and she has a nack of many talents. And In a way is locked up in District 12 ( But Protected by her sister) 

Baymax He is the cutest thing out there. Caring knowing when you need a hand ( Like katniss)    a healer  ( I might of went out to look for the healer of disney).  Not much of a fighter ( But I swear if you did what  Hiro did if you did that to prim oh my god the fight in her but the healing will always be apart of her) 

Anna. Okay I basically but Anna here because she is Elsa’s sister. Simlar hair styles but.. Both are willing to do anything for each other.  Prim had a knack to see if the fence was on to see if Katniss was gonna be late coming back from hunting. Both are gental who wont hurt a fly (Unless your almost husband is a total jerk)   

Effie Charlotte ( Princess and the Frog) Dory (Finding Nemo )  Yzma ( The emperors  New Groove) 

Charlotte. Oh my god If this isn’t effie I have no clue what is. She  does stuff to get a better district. But then Truely cares about her district 12 tributes 74th Games. She would almost do anything in her power to make them on time and for her victors.  

Dory Okay Effie is a bit clueless in her own little world.  Telling them about the pearls lol and whitty. Effie doesn’t have short term memory loss she has I’ve been living in the capitol and this is what I know. 

Yzma This is the effie we dont wanna see Frankly I am happy we didn’t see this side of her. It’s the one who gets really pissed off I’m sure it would be something else tho to see. 

Cinna.  Fairy God mother (Cinderella) Genie ( Aladdin)  Nick ( Zootopia) 

Fairy God mother. Cinnas out fits are like  bibbidi bobbidi boo I make an awesome outfit for you. Also He takes good care of Katniss.(  Like sent from up above) On her side beyond his end.  A bit of a rebel but over all a really good guy 

Genie. Cinna is like the Genie without 3 wishes.  But he is there and supports Katniss fully.  And just  helps her out when se needs it.  and Is a friend in Katniss. Basically the one  she trusts first and fully, 

Nick  Okay this is an odd one But he  rebeled from his bad guy character to help Judy ( Police officer) with a crime.  Cinna helped out katniss and pretty much a rebel to go beyond to help her. To show shes the symbol of this war... To show that she  should go a head fight for it all its worth. Plus I got your back making your costumes not only good looking but you wont have to worry about death yet your costumes prevent that. 

Haymitch.  Mushu ( Mulan) Lumiere ( BATB)  Crush (Finding Nemo) 

Mushu He is that reality check that Katniss and Peeta needed but also will do almost anything to protect them ( Even lying for there own good)  But also oh my lordy funny. 

Lumiere. It’s his carefree side where Katniss shot an apple at the gamemakers and just like oh well. That happened... Plus not playing by the capitol rules and  He is just like a good mentor to Katniss and Peeta hell the best. He really wants them to try to win this thing.  

Crush. Okay that turtle was the most stoned turtle I’ve met. To this day. And as for Disney Characters this might not be the most drunk but It’s one i can Find. 

Gale Robin Hood  Hans ( Frozen) Gaston ( BATB) 

Robin hood Umm he shoots I think he hunts thats about it

 Hans  Not only did he confuse Anna for a love  But we see his true colours too. I mean they were not even friends first but still. Like so Gale. 

Gaston.  He’s a hunter after his girl Katniss ( But shes already taken) Really wanted her once she was gone  also is strangly after Katniss and only katniss ( when shes around) when he has plenty of takers.

Evil  both are totally okay with murder and poison. At least she only poisoned Snow white enough to put her in a coma. 

Scar. If you read the newest  Hunger Games book ya know.  What snow did to a certain someone...  And like wont take the blame but he will tho at the same time 

Coin  Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty)  Mother Gothal ( Tangled) 

Maleficent I am deeply scared of her just saying and Coin as well

Mother Gothal. Totally Coin.  They both dont want there golden Flower to leave protection  if it was really up to Coin she would never let Katniss go. But she had little control over her Frankly Katniss never trusted her at all.   But like Mother Gothal we all knew she was bad going in but   Coin first time Reading I said I bet you will be bad lol. 

Annie Hei hei (Moana) Jane ( Tarzan) 

Hei Hei ( Sorry Annie ) But kinda crazy.  Kinda out of it...  

Jane I have no idea why but I see this crazy girl from 4 Jane. Just going a bit crazy at everything like Jane 

Wiress Clogsworth ( BATB) Okay simple very smart  but Kinda out there and  has a thing for clocks 

Mags (Grandma from Moana) A little crazy but alright. I mean better then alright down right awesome. 

Beetee Wall’e I have actually  never seen this movie but I am like hell robot  Beetee.

Careers Bruce and the other sharks (Finding Nemo)  Scary yet the biggest idiots on the planet. Sure they get the best of best  as districts go but damn who doesn’t know how to climb a tree or knowlage to idk chop it down burn it down..

Caesar Flickerman  Kuzco ( Emperors new groove)  If this isn’t him I have no idea what is. Total Kuzco vibes the but also somewhat caring but most of the interviews is how he does.  Its beauty and its grace its Caesers face. But He does try to help out to the best of his ability. 

Boggs Mattias. Frozen 2  Basically he actually cares for Katniss doesn’t want to see harm done to her. A  rebel against his leader. ( I think he would of honestly be proud of Katniss for Killing Coin). But Only hopes for the best. 

Cato Prince Eric ( Little mermaid)  No offence but  holy crap hes an idiot lol  ( Eric I mean).  Cato is smart but clueless.  If he beileved that 2 could win. ( I honestly have no idea why I chose him for Cato) 

Katniss’s Mother ( Iduna) Frozen ( Anna and Elsas mother). Yeah  Mrs Everdeen did leave her daughters to fend for themselfs but bits of her came back to life every day.  and if she had a choice she would of died with her husband but she is the strongest damn person because she could of  died if she wanted to but she stayed for her daughters sakes. I would like to think Iduna would of done the same if she had that chance.

Madge Moana. Okay I will admit stange but Madge is pretty bad ass like Moana tho she doesn’t leave she is very family is everything quiet. But not a sas for a village leaders daughter Moana isn’t bad at all. I could see her being the Madge we don’t get to see.

If you don’t hold strong emotions towards Tangled the Series, then I’m guessing that you think that the Series is worse than Frozen 2. But you posted stuff about Tangled the Series multiple times so how can you say that you don’t have strong emotions towards Tangled the Series.

Let me make one thing very clear:

NOTHING IS WORSE THAN FROZEN 2.

Did my words "I don't hold strong emotions towards..." really made you think I meant TTS is worse than F2? Seriously? If you have read my posts about me watching the Tangled series, which one gave you the impression that I think TTS is bad or something? lol

BELIEVE ME. If I were to think TTS is worse than F2, I wouldn't have watched the Tangled movie, the movie prologue to the series, the whole 3 seasons, and the wedding short, all in chronological order as I did. And my brother (who is attached to the Tangled franchise) is witness.

When I say I don't hold strong emotions towards something, what I mean is that I don't love it with a passion and I don't hate it with a passion either. Me holding strong emotions towards something would be how much I LOVE Disney's Beauty and the Beast and whenever I watch it I fall in love with it again and again. Or HOW MUCH F2 S*CKS and how much I hate its directors and whenever I think of what could/should have been my blood boils in rage because of L and B's stupidity and utter BS.

See? Those are examples of me holding strong emotions towards something. Be it positive (BatB) or incredibly negative (F2).

My story with Disney's Tangled is simple. I

never connected with that movie. Some of the main characters annoyed the hell

out of me and some characters I did like show up very little or do very little.

However, the series did make me like some characters from the movie better.

Even if there was still some annoyance here and there.

I only watched the Tangled series because 1. Back in the day there used to be the dumb fandom war of "Tangled vs. Frozen". I used to be Team Frozen. But since the progression of the franchise left me beyond bitter and disappointed I thought, "Why don't I give this Tangled Animated Series a try?" And 2. I've only heard nothing but good things about this series. And it's been ages since I've seen a good Disney cartoon. So I basically thought that, to me, getting interested in the continuation of Tangled was like giving Frozen's continuation the middle finger.

And I wrote what I wrote about TTS because I was sharing a little of my experience watching it with anyone interested in my opinion as there has been people asking me or recommending me to watch it.

It's like when I write about watching a trailer of a coming movie or listening to the music of said movie. Like I have done recently with the Mulan live action. I just write my opinion when I feel like to or when I have something to say. Isn't this hell hole of a site used for stuff like that?

Besides; now my blog is mainly Helsa. That's right, NOT Frozen, HELSA. But this blog is still the blog where I reblog (or rarely post) Disney related stuff. And last time I checked Tangled's animated series is Disney.

Ehhhhh, I’m behind where I want to be, a little bit (as you may have noticed from the fact that I haven’t gotten a chapter up for last week, whoops…I’m hoping to get one up tonight or tomorrow? We shall see…) It’s looking like three or maybe four chapters left in Lessons, so right now I’m setting a goal to finish this arc by the end of the year. Depending on how on-task I remain (and how busy work is; etc.), I might end up doing a double update one week to meet that.

After that, we get into Reunion, which I think will make people happy. (I know I’ve been asked about it…several times…^^;;)

Distaff:

I’m hoping to get the next chapter up by the end of the year—again, depending on how much time/focus I manage to wrangle ::knocks on wood:: I should be able to pull it off. (Like I said I think last month, nothing that actually happens in it is particularly difficult, certainly not on the level of The Goddamn Opera House, it’s just there’s a lot I need to cover before Obi-Wan actually leaves for Utapau because I borked my timeline a little bit.)

Auxiliaries:

In theory, I’ll do another update at some point? I really should write the middle of “A Day at the Races,” but I need to figure out exactly what explodes in their faces. I have most of part three of that story written! As well as scattered bits here and there throughout the timeline (though I think I want to rewrite Anakin and Padme’s first meeting, because I think there’s something slightly different going on than when I drafted it last year). Also, I should do more stuff with what Anakin does as a tiny on Tatooine, with Kitster and Shmi and an OC of mine (because I seem to be pathologically incapable of not creating OCs, lol), and I have to rewrite the bulk of AOTC…Anyway, there will be more of this eventually. Hopefully this month.

AU Outlines:

I put one up last night, hurray! (I’ll admit, parts of it feel a little rushed/sloppy to me, and I know I didn’t go into as much detail as I could/should have in a few places (particularly re: Mace [who, if I were fleshing this out properly would have a much bigger role] and Ahsoka [because Ahsoka]), but given that it was already over 8k, and I got through most of the super important scenes that I’d wanted to cover at least in some measure, I decided to just go for it and post last night. But chances are I’ll go back and add more later at some point. I do like how the Big Melodramatic Climax went, though--like the last five/ten minutes of the Disney animated BATB with a side of Act 5 of Cyrano de Bergerac; or at least that was what I was going for ^^;;)

Anyway, that aside, I should get at least one more outline up this month; possibly one of the ones I’ve been hinting at for a while or possibly a continuation of one that already exists, but IDK. I may ask for input again at some point, unless I really get going on something on my own. And I always welcome suggestions/prompts even if I don’t specifically ask! It just might take me longer to get to them.

[Also, apropos of nothing, these things are a pain in the butt to transfer from the word processor where I drafted them into tumblr, which seems to have a problem with c/ping bulleted lists…]

Other:

I am doing JediFest this month, which should be fun, and Big Bang next year (assuming I’ve signed up properly; I submitted my signup last…Friday, I think? But I haven’t gotten any confirmation/response or anything. I’m going to reach out to the mods again if I don’t hear anything for the end of the week). Due to challenge rules, I can’t say too much more than that, but it should be fun! Though, heh, we’ll see how I am about sticking to a limited wordcount...

Uh, let’s see, what else…I posted Sanctuary to AO3 with some minor edits at the beginning of November…I think that’s pretty much it, other than various noodling, primarily on self-indulgent BS I probably won’t ever post, in an attempt to fill up NaNo wordcount.

Oh, I’ll probably do another Epic Crossover RP OF DOOM update at some point, because, again, we think we’re hilarious. Even if it’s just background details, like the list of fandoms/universes involved, who’s training the various BSG-origin people who went for Jedi training…or something.

Also! Because it fits here better than anywhere else—I am going to see TLJ pretty early on. I probably won’t post much/anything about it here, but if I do, I’ll tag everything with ‘spoilers’ ‘sw spoilers’ ‘star wars spoilers’ and ‘tlj spoilers’ for…probably at least a month? If there’s another tag you want me to use, just send me an ask or reply to this post or something. This is more likely to be an issue on my personal blog, but just in case, wanted to let y’all know.

She is paid to pretend she is someone else, somewhere else, doing something else than her everyday things. Living a life we cannot imagine and that thus seems amazing and fanciful.Yes I can imagine her wearing a dress right after that scene, because it’s a MOVIE not real goddamn life, and they’d simply do unseen alterations for the dress and saddle, likely, to ensure her safety, as well as use a double or a dummy horse where they could.Watching people bend over backwards to defend uppity Emma is incredible because to a one you guys are all stripping the possible magic out of BatB to explain just how dull she is and if that doesn’t prove our point idk what does. It is very easy to see how her ignorant assertion that to be frilly and girly is  NOT to be empowered (much like how she feels like wearing one of Beyoncé’s incredible bodysuits and dancing on stage is less than feminist) explains the fact that the bitch had flat hair, no  gloves, and a flat dress. Everything looks doused in the cold water of realism. Rumple has always been my favorite character on OUAT, too, and Rumbelle has always been my OUAT otp.

But the thing with bringing back a consistently emotionally complex, morally gray, redemptive, and sympathetic anti-villain, who’s endgame was always intended to be selflessly dying to save Bae, Belle, and his family to do the right thing in A&E’s mind, was that bringing him back was a dangerous game that led to the best written character with the best development and redemption arc becoming the most infuriating and disappointing source of wasted potential (along with Belle’s, who’s original characterization they fucked up along with Rumple’s to prop up Hook/CS).

What do you do with a sympathetic anti-villain character, who’s redemptive endgame was always meant to be dying selflessly for his loved ones after you bring him back from already accomplishing that consistently, realistically, and fantastically within the pacing of the first two-and-a-half seasons of your show? It’s hard to find that same organic balance again in characterization. It’s difficult to figure out where to take a villain next when you bring him back to do the same arc all over again. Then, you have the fact that A&E got obsessed with Hook/CS. That’s why A&E fucked up both Rumple and Belle’s original characterizations into something more cartoonish and inconsistent, and had them flounder mindlessly back-and-forth inorganically between extremes without really learning anything new on both sides as equals in their relationship like they once did with this “hero” and “villain” bs hypocritical and blatantly emotionally manipulative writing until he reaches the exact same point he already did in 3x11.

Then, you have the fact that they killed off Nealfire, and brought Rumple back from the dead by breaking a major rule of magic to “foil” Hook in the narrative as the main recurring “big bad”’as his rival by having him replace the role of Emma’s main love interest and son in the storyline.

OUAT was already showing signs of fucked up consent issues, misogyny, moral hypocrisy, rape culture, and callous abuse and/or rape apology, especially in characters such as Regina, Hook, and the introduction of Crapstain Swan.

When they killed off Bae and brought Rumple back from the dead, it’s like there was no longer any meaningful dividing line between the “heroes” and “villains” in the present day storyline anymore because Emma, Snow, David, Belle, and even Henry all became romanticized abusers and/or objective criminals at one point or another from 3B-S7, too. The only defense was, “It’s ‘okay’ because they’re only hurting Rumple, or other ‘bad guys’ by doling out merciless ‘judgment, jury, and execution, verbal/mental/emotional abuse, committing crimes, or misusing magic to do what’s ‘right’ in the heat of the moment,” even though they didn’t technically need to go that far, and all condemned Rumple and shunned him for wanting to abuse magic or violate consent to protect his loved ones in all the wrong ways, while they all got away with doing the same.

I could see if they had brought Rumple back to do the classic BATB storyline with Belle, but they ruined that opportunity in the 4B finale, and continued fucking up the beauty of both his and Belle’s individual characterizations and relationship together on the show for Crapstain Swan.

They also didn’t know what else to do with Emma after 3A because they couldn’t come up with more than two-and-a-half seasons of organic character growth with her learning to open up to love, and when they killed off Nealfire, they killed off any sort of organic opportunities for growth in her storyline, and destroyed the beauty of her and Hook’s original characterizations by forcing them together to redo it.

I could see the show working for more than two-and-a-half seasons if A&E and these writers had the ability to come up with more than that. I could see it going longer if they hadn’t killed off Nealfire, and they hadn’t killed off Rumple in a great redemption arc in 3x11, then brought him back by retconning it all to redo it all over again in a very badly written, inorganic, unhealthy, and OOC way for both him and Belle to prop up everyone else’s half-assed “redemption” arcs and CS/H00k. I could see it working longer if they hadn’t gotten distracted by H00k/CS, and cheap soap opera character destroying plot fuckery.

But two-and-a-half seasons of a genuinely entertaining, enjoyable, heartwarming, and beautiful show was all that A&E and these writers could handle before everything went to hell (literally).

So I wrote in my response post that I would’ve liked it if the Beauty & the Beast reboot had chosen to focus more on platonic love than romantic love. And because I’m holding off on doing work, I feel like I should delve into that to see if I’m crazy or not because I think things through by talking about them and seeing what sticks.

So we know how the Enchantress curses Adam because he lacks the capacity to love or the humanity to deserve it back. As such, the curse revolves around whether or not Adam gains the recognition of how important it is to love and to prove that he can behave in such a way that would result in being loved right back. However, it doesn’t add up: the love (or, in the case of the situation, respect) that the Enchantress’ test appears to be looking for reflects not that born from romantic or erotic intent, but of good nature towards others. She was asking for a place to stay, not if he’d marry her or anything.

It therefore comes off as peculiar that the only way to reverse the curse’s reversal depended on the romantic type of love, something that Adam was put in no position to express for approval. In fact, when you think about it, she never said the love had to be romantic in the first place! For all we know, it could’ve just been her saying, “Dude, you’re an ass. Learn to stop being a vain piece of crap and prove that somebody will willingly put up with your shit and then you can have your life back.”

(Of course, in fairytales, the go-to is that romantic love is a cure-all. Especially in Disney films. Speaking of which . . .)

I’ve heard some people insist that one of the things that sort of got the original BatB off the hook in terms of the two-date-marriage thing was that we see a shift in seasons, suggesting that the storyline could’ve taken place over months rather than a few days or even weeks. While I get it, the argument doesn’t stand even then because it doesn’t take too long for Maurice to get to the castle, but way too long to get back to the village. Even without a horse, a month’s worth of travel just seems a little hard for me to believe. Especially since we have no indication that Maurice could fair in the woods by himself for more than a night, let alone a month.

The argument that the story takes place over a couple of months is completely shattered by the reboot, having it specifically take place in June over the span of a couple of days. So we’re right back at square one with the whole issue of love proclamations after only knowing each other for a week.

This is where I feel platonic love should’ve been the route to go by:

Adam and Belle were both pretty isolated. Adam’s father put him under restrictions that eventually resulted in him making sure that nobody got close in the form of vanity. And Belle was an outcast in her own village, barely interacting with anyone besides Pere Robert and her father. It’d make sense for them to jump into the concept of love and romantic feelings if either one was the first person (or beast) to show that extent of patience and eagerness to learn with one another -- and they are. However, this creates a discomforting notion.

But Belle gaining a friend and realizing she adores this friend? And Adam making his first real friend who’s willing to put up with his BS? I’m all for it.

And before you go saying, “But friendly love is so simple” -- no. It is not. The underestimation of platonic love is something that has led to many toxic interactions. Furthermore, if you’re a person who’s faced rejection and isolation, or who has lived much of their life believing that they are incapable of being loved in anyway, loving someone even in a friendly way is downright risky. It’s a good foundation for romantic pursuits, if you still insist on them falling in love.

But ultimately, it just would’ve been more realistic. I know how ridiculous it is, arguing for realism in a movie where items talk and a man is turned into an animal-hybrid, but I stand by it: Belle and Adam could still have expressed love in a platonic way and have it be just as powerful.
