With canon Rumbelle?
Yep!
I pretty much hate almost everything about the writing about this show’s canon for every main character and ship after the first two-and-a-half seasons. When you compare S1-3A to 3B-S7 it’s like two completely different shows. But I’ll always love Rumple, Belle, and Rumbelle, the characters and couple they were on this show from S1-S3-ish in canon, and in canon-divergent/AU fanon scenarios that are actually consistently in-character, well-written, and fun to read and write.

I still have a complaint---you’re surprised?
Are they ever going to explain the bullshit of convincing Belle to take Gideon away from Rumple?

ouat rules:
Season 1: You can't travel between realms, is freaking difficult to find ways to do it and it can be dangerous.
Season 6: Throw some pixie petals. Use Black Fairy's wand. Magic beans still exist.

Wasn't the whole point of the Dark Curse that it took them to a LAND WITHOUT MAGIC? As in, completely incapable of producing curse-breaking pixie flowers or forgetting potions until Rumple himself brought magic -- AFTER Emma broke the curse??? I don't hate Snow, or the Charmings at all for this episode, and they weren't completely ruined for me (especially since they only saw Emma in what was relatively a peaceful moment - she was in a bedroom listening to a Walkman, she literally couldn't look more like a normal kid. there was no way to tell from that glimpse that her life was horrible, rather than being stable with foster or adoptive parents who cared for her). I thought Snow's decision was very in keeping with the sacrificial nature of her character. But gdi do I hate these writers. They deliberately screwed with the ethos of ALL of season 1 (easily their only good, consistent, well put together season) and why? The plot point of the week could NOT Have been worth this, smh.

Rumple has always been my favorite character on OUAT, too, and Rumbelle has always been my OUAT otp.
But the thing with bringing back a consistently emotionally complex, morally gray, redemptive, and sympathetic anti-villain, who’s endgame was always intended to be selflessly dying to save Bae, Belle, and his family to do the right thing in A&E’s mind, was that bringing him back was a dangerous game that led to the best written character with the best development and redemption arc becoming the most infuriating and disappointing source of wasted potential (along with Belle’s, who’s original characterization they fucked up along with Rumple’s to prop up Hook/CS).
What do you do with a sympathetic anti-villain character, who’s redemptive endgame was always meant to be dying selflessly for his loved ones after you bring him back from already accomplishing that consistently, realistically, and fantastically within the pacing of the first two-and-a-half seasons of your show? It’s hard to find that same organic balance again in characterization. It’s difficult to figure out where to take a villain next when you bring him back to do the same arc all over again. Then, you have the fact that A&E got obsessed with Hook/CS. That’s why A&E fucked up both Rumple and Belle’s original characterizations into something more cartoonish and inconsistent, and had them flounder mindlessly back-and-forth inorganically between extremes without really learning anything new on both sides as equals in their relationship like they once did with this “hero” and “villain” bs hypocritical and blatantly emotionally manipulative writing until he reaches the exact same point he already did in 3x11.
Then, you have the fact that they killed off Nealfire, and brought Rumple back from the dead by breaking a major rule of magic to “foil” Hook in the narrative as the main recurring “big bad”’as his rival by having him replace the role of Emma’s main love interest and son in the storyline.
OUAT was already showing signs of fucked up consent issues, misogyny, moral hypocrisy, rape culture, and callous abuse and/or rape apology, especially in characters such as Regina, Hook, and the introduction of Crapstain Swan.
When they killed off Bae and brought Rumple back from the dead, it’s like there was no longer any meaningful dividing line between the “heroes” and “villains” in the present day storyline anymore because Emma, Snow, David, Belle, and even Henry all became romanticized abusers and/or objective criminals at one point or another from 3B-S7, too. The only defense was, “It’s ‘okay’ because they’re only hurting Rumple, or other ‘bad guys’ by doling out merciless ‘judgment, jury, and execution, verbal/mental/emotional abuse, committing crimes, or misusing magic to do what’s ‘right’ in the heat of the moment,” even though they didn’t technically need to go that far, and all condemned Rumple and shunned him for wanting to abuse magic or violate consent to protect his loved ones in all the wrong ways, while they all got away with doing the same.
I could see if they had brought Rumple back to do the classic BATB storyline with Belle, but they ruined that opportunity in the 4B finale, and continued fucking up the beauty of both his and Belle’s individual characterizations and relationship together on the show for Crapstain Swan.
They also didn’t know what else to do with Emma after 3A because they couldn’t come up with more than two-and-a-half seasons of organic character growth with her learning to open up to love, and when they killed off Nealfire, they killed off any sort of organic opportunities for growth in her storyline, and destroyed the beauty of her and Hook’s original characterizations by forcing them together to redo it.
I could see the show working for more than two-and-a-half seasons if A&E and these writers had the ability to come up with more than that. I could see it going longer if they hadn’t killed off Nealfire, and they hadn’t killed off Rumple in a great redemption arc in 3x11, then brought him back by retconning it all to redo it all over again in a very badly written, inorganic, unhealthy, and OOC way for both him and Belle to prop up everyone else’s half-assed “redemption” arcs and CS/H00k. I could see it working longer if they hadn’t gotten distracted by H00k/CS, and cheap soap opera character destroying plot fuckery.
But two-and-a-half seasons of a genuinely entertaining, enjoyable, heartwarming, and beautiful show was all that A&E and these writers could handle before everything went to hell (literally).

My OUAT Rewatch -- S6E4 -- Strange Case
Link to Rewatch Review and Ranking archive
Okay, there’s A LOT to unpack in this one, but before we do THAT . . . . . it’s time once again for our new favorite game show . . . .
What the Fuck is Emma Wearing??????
Tumblr media
Seriously, after S6 Ends the S6 Emma Snarky Fashion Show post is coming . . . . . if you have any snarks on ANY of her S6 wardrobe, you are welcome to send it to me via messenger or message and I will keep it on file until the big event!  I don’t think there was ever a full on “Drag Emma’s S6 Wardrobe” in-depth post, and I am here to fill that much-needed gap!  Stay tuned!
By the way, sub-category just for this episode . . . . what the fuck is BELLE wearing?????
Tumblr media
I usually love Belle’s wardrobe.  I’m usually either drooling over how stunning she is or seething with envy that I’m not skinny enough to wear the stuff she wears.  And very often I’m doing both.
But THIS ugly-ass thing?  WTF is it supposed to be?  A dress?  A nightgown?  A dressy nightgown?  A nightie dressgown?  It’s ugly, its so bland it washes out her coloring (and the wig she’s wearing in this one, OMG!!!!  Hideous!), just -- yech all around.  Probably the ugliest thing she’s EVER worn.  Not sure what they were going for costume wise here, but EPIC FAIL.
Okay . . . . . . now that that’s out . . . . . here’s the thing, and it might surprise you . . . . . . I didn’t totally HATE this episode.  Yup, you read that right.  Don’t worry, you’re as surprised as I am, because I expected to come on here ranting and screaming and all like . . . . .
Tumblr media
But nope.
I mean . . . . I didn’t LOVE the episode.  It’s not one I’ll watch over and over again.  But there are WAY worse episodes in this series than this one.  I don’t do the tally till after I do the review, and I went in expecting this to be in the negatives, possibly even moving the shitfest that was Smash the Mirror out of the bottom spot.  I don’t think it will be in the negatives.  We’ll see when I end this, but . . . . . . it wasn’t THAT BAD.  And I was aggressively and unapologetically hate watching when this originally aired.  Also, David Goodman was one of the writers so of COURSE there’s going to be some shit in here because it’s GOODMAN.
So . . . . . ready to discuss?  Yes there WILL be Belle dragging but I will politely do this to the Belle dragging so that those who don’t want to read it can skim on by.
Come on in . . . . . .
Tumblr media
BTW, for those reading this at a later date, or those just flat out not in the know . . . . . Bobby filmed the movie Trainspotting 2 during the summer between S5 and S6, and he had to cut his hair and grow out a porn ‘stache.  Well he didn’t HAVE to, and actually ABC told him NOT to, but he basically said “Fuck ABC” and did it anyway.  So over the summer of 2016 he looked like this:
Tumblr media
So yup . . . the past three episodes he was wearing a very bad wig.  And there’s a lot of debate on which Rumple is the hottest, and S6 Rumple wins for many.  S7 is MY preference, but I’ve grown to appreciate the short hair.
Anyhow . . . . this episode was actually WAY better than I remembered.  I mean Belle was a fucking bitch, that hasn’t changed, Hook was being shoehorned into the Rumbelle story, as he’s being shoehorned into EVERY story to see where he can be useful (the answer would be NOWHERE because he’s a fucking useless lamp with no real purpose on this show), and of course the CLASSIC Swan Queen #no homo moment:
Tumblr media
Swan Queen: Social Distancing since October 2016!
You know, I didn’t remember this moment being in THIS episode.  I honestly thought it was later.  But then again, S6 is a blur of me bitching, drinking, and being blocked by the fandom because I called a fictional character a bitch, so what do I know?
Anyhow, this moment . . . . . oh the FUN we had with it!
https://celticheartedfangirl.tumblr.com/post/151930060407/scarimor-the-internet-is-on-the-ball-this
https://celticheartedfangirl.tumblr.com/post/151932134492/swanmills-just-in-case-you-forgot-this
So the Jekyll and Hyde stuff . . . . . was actually not that bad.  But honestly kinda anti-climactic?  Because they set up Hyde to be a S6 Big Bad and he’s DEAD by Episode FOUR???  But then again A&E have always sucked at follow-through, so is anyone surprised?
Also the lovely Karen David is now on board as Jasmine and I cannot WAIT to see how these hacks will fuck HER story up!
Tumblr media
Also LMAO, Snow sucks at teaching!
So back to the Rumple/Belle/Rumbelle shit . . . . . . .
1.  I side with Rumple
2.  Belle was being an unreasonable dumbass and I wanted to smack the ever living fuck out of her the entire episode
2.  What in the actual FUCK is Hook doing there?  And a magic seashell, REALLY????  Don’t they both have PHONES?????  More Stu propping, ugh.  Also he tried to murder Belle FOUR TIMES, please stop with this fuckery!
I had lots of opinion about this episode when it aired, and honestly I only half assed watched it at the time so let’s review my opinion and see if I still agree with them . . . . . . . .
https://celticheartedfangirl.tumblr.com/post/151930433837/for-those-who-didntdont-want-to-watch-a-brief
Okay, I didn’t think Rumple was THAT OOC and the Snow stuff was fun.  Other than that -- agree.  Next . . . .
https://celticheartedfangirl.tumblr.com/post/151908421027/okay-help-me-out
Yup.
https://celticheartedfangirl.tumblr.com/post/151908871377/fucking-hook-propping
Absolutely agree!
https://celticheartedfangirl.tumblr.com/post/151894995482/emospritelet-onceandfuturekikiouat-i-100
THIS THIS THIS, ALL OF FUCKING THIS!!!!!
So one good thing that this episode gave us were these BTS gifs that a fan filmed of Bobby goofing around on set:
https://celticheartedfangirl.tumblr.com/post/151900061412/just-ustas-lets-go-rumple-he-is-so
But otherwise . . . . . . S6, a summary so far (that will continue):
Tumblr media
BTW, on a side note -- Creation released their promo poster for the 2016-2017 OAUAT Convention season -- and this was it:
Tumblr media
In case you ever had ANY doubt who was the “most important” character on the show.
Points tally:
40 points to start
10 points for Rumbelle centric ISH
5 points for socially distanced but still more chemistry than with a man Swan Queen
I’m doing 2 points Rumple in character and deducting 2 points for him OOC because I didn’t think he was either but he was both.  And that makes no sense but neither does some of this shitty writing
5 points deducted for Hook
10 points deducted for OOC Belle
10 points deducted for Belle and Hook GTFO
10 points deducted for Goodman
10 bonus points for Rumple losing the damn wig
Sorry, gotta dump 25 points for all the Rumbelle bullshit and all the Hook propping bullshit
Total points:  5
Wow, not in negatives!  Color me stunned!

The Big Problems With OUAT’s Writing:
My favorite characters were Rumple, Belle, Emma, and Nealfire. Once Nealfire got killed off though, their characterizations and their relationships, as well as everyone else’s thereafter, went to total shit in canon. Adam and Eddy obviously couldn’t come up with any more than two-and-a-half seasons of organic or satisfying character growth for the original main cast, and it should have ended in 3x11, in my opinion. I’m pretty sure that Damon Lindlelof helped them out with the writing a lot for the first two-and-a-half seasons, which is why the story is at least coherent enough to be enjoyable up to 3x11.
But after 3A, Lindlelof’s plans for the show were butchered, Kitsowitz completely took over the show with Captain Fuckboy, PLOT, and making money their main focuses, so they kept it on air for the next four-and-a-half seasons not knowing what else to do now that they had run out of new story. Thus, it got to the point where it essentially devolved into such badly written crack!fic soap opera on screen by the end of 5A where the writing for everyone’s characterization had become so unbelievably OOC, annoyingly self-contradictory, changeable, hypocritical, illogical, melodramatically problematic, and toxic in favor of the PLOT that I had to quit to preserve my sanity.
I enjoyed reading Rumbelle fanfic moreso than the actual show because it made sense and felt more satisfying, well-written, in-character, and entertaining than the nonsensical toxic garbage the show had devolved into.
After 5A, Eddy Kitsis said in an interview that he thought “good storytelling” was making sure the audience goes “WTF? This makes absolutely no sense! This isn’t fair! This totally contradicts everything that I was shown before, and feels too stupid, too contrived, and too OOC to even believe possible.”
It wasn’t worth getting emotionally or mentally invested in this show or any of the remaining characters as written in canon anymore post 3A because A&E and these writers formula kept becoming more and more of “We’re doing our jobs if we can trick our audience after deliberately teasing them by dangling the carrot of organic growth of character that we’re too lazy to follow through on by yanking it away from them as soon as they start making logical predictions abruptly, cruelly and inorganically with constant twist of ’HOLY SHIT, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED?”
When Eddy basically said that at the end of 5A, I realized I was done with having any hope for this show, and I decided to finally quit watching after 5B because I knew every time something started to seem to make sense and go in a direction of organic growth for the characters, A&E and these writers would deliberately pull the rug out from under them and their audience for trying to get invested in them with some inorganic contrivance that ruined everything in an unfair way that made no sense and never would make any sense in canon from what we were led to believe would happen beforehand on this show by them because that was the whole point: A&E and these writers so often didn’t want you to make sense of their show because they were lazy hacks who didn’t know how to write a cohesive plot or organic character growth/realistic characterization after 3A.
They admitted that they liked whiplashing their audience for using common sense and logic in regards to fans whenever the story and the characters would seem to be potentially headed in a way that would make sense. They considered that “genuis” storytelling with their overinflated egos, rather than just very cruel, mean, lazy, and low bad writing that ultimately destroyed most of their main characters’ credibility and their fans willingness to stay emotionally invested in their canon show that the creators/writers refused to let unfold organically in a way that made consistent sense long term.
Instead, they used a constant series of contrived magical macguffins and twists of “WTF just happened? This makes no damned sense from what was just previously established on screen, and does not at all relate to it! This is unbelievably absurd! The characters would never do or say this shit in real life!”
It destroyed the credibility of most of their characters’ in canon and their fans willingness to stay emotionally invested in their show, and it was insulting, especially when you had showrunners like Eddy Kitsis admitting to the fans “As always with this show, once the audience gets onto what we’re doing, we have to change it.”
When they said “We hope things will be ‘fun’” for the character assassinating, wildly OOC, nonsensical, and melodramatic garbage writing of 6A for Rumbelle with the Morfetus bs twist or in 5A of the Dark Swan arc, they didn’t mean that we would necessarily be legitimately entertained as an audience when they threw in a character destroying inorganic magical contrivance or bizarre twist out of nowhere that forced the characters into weird directions that made no sense from what had been previously established.
Adam and Eddy meant that they would be having fun pissing those of us in their audience off by insulting our intelligence and common sense by constantly giving us inorganic contrivance of OOC characterizations, magical macguffins, and bizarre PLOT twists and contrivances that didn’t consistently, logically, and thus satisfyingly add up with what had been previously established, rather than entertaining us with organic character growth that made satisfactory sense by letting our predictions for characters come true in their sheer laziness to slow down and write organic character development.
There were even hints of this problem before 3B-S7 that I was seeing potential for in 2B. OUAT could have gone strong for longer than two to three ish seasons if A&E and these writers had slowed down from 2B, not gotten obsessed with Hook, not gone to Neverland, and not gotten so obsessed with the next big, bizarre, and contrived magical PLOT twist or macguffin that, oftentimes inorganically forced their characters to 180 regress in ways that made no sense for moments of “HOLY SHIT! WTF JUST HAPPENED?”
I have no problem with characters regressing when it’s done organically, slowly, relatably, and realistically. The problem with OUAT was that they used inorganic contrivances to push them back-and-forth between increasingly bizarre extremes that made no sense, rather than focusing on human or realistic motivations to get them from point A to point C organically. It felt fake, and it felt forced. I know it was fiction, but it felt like lazily badly written fiction when the characters swung back-and-forth by the writers playing God with them on the strings of their asinine PLOT twists inorganically.
It had gotten beyond exhausting trying to invest in a show run by petty hacks who were never going to allow their audience’s common sense and intelligence lead them through an organic path of growth for these characters with the writers dangling the carrot in front of them for a story that actually could make sense, and then abruptly, cruelly, and inorganically yanking it away from them with an absurd twist because they were too lazy to come up with any more ideas for organic character growth after 3A.
Let’s talk about Hook and CS becoming such a main focus on this show, and the romantic male lead/couple.” It’s not that Hook couldn’t have been organically developed into a sympathetic character worthy of redemption in his own right. A&E couldn’t write that, though. He also didn’t fit together with the ensemble main cast in the place of Nealfire as Emma’s main love interest. He and Emma had absolutely no chemistry. Hook’s sudden interest in her was bizarre and creepy.
Then, they killed off Nealfire through absurd means for Hook to take his place in the picture where he didn’t fit in the family circle, so they could have CS. They broke their own rules to bring Rumple back from the dead to turn him into the wildly OOC on-and-off-again “big bad” scapegoat cartoonish villain PLOT twister “foil” to Hook, even after having been given two-and-a-half seasons of the most well-written and well-earned sympathetic reforming anti-villain/tragic hero backstory and redemption arc from S1-3A. They destroyed Emma’s, Belle’s, Snow’s, David’s, and even Henry’s original sympathetic characterizations by obliterating their self-respect, intelligence, self-awareness, and moral integrity, so that they could inorganically force this bullshit narrative of Hook/CS being the “best hero” ever in a world of now meaningless, shallow, and simplistic black versus white hypocritical morality that Nealfire and the common goal of family balanced out with a sense of realism, common sense, organic growth and emotional depth that got lost with his death in favor of contradictory character destroying magical PLOT-twist driven Drama™️ soap opera “hero versus villain” fuckery and Hook/CS.
No wonder they lost more and more viewers as every season passed...Getting emotionally invested was no fun when the writers deliberately pulled the rug out from underneath your favorite characters whenever things started to seem making sense by totally ruining it with some bizarre magical contrivance or characterization that doesn’t add up to what we were shown before, and your logical predictions for stories that made organic and consistent sense for character growth were mocked by these writers because they refused to slow down and develop the characters after S1-3A. You were punished for being smart and using common sense, and that’s why most of these main characters’ credibility and integrity got completely destroyed in one way or another by this very lazy, petty and unfair bad writing technique of theirs that made them mostly feel like pod!people after just the first two-and-a-half seasons of the series.
tldr; You could only suspend your disbelief by turning off your brain to disregard the bullshit writing choices on OUAT and just blindly enjoy the show by getting invested in the characters for so long as written in canon without asking any questions before the writing became too infuriatingly repetitive, too contrived, too OOC, too character assassinating, and too stupid to believe. Also, Captain Fuckboy ruined the show after 3A, and he should have died and stayed dead back in early S2. It could have been different if A&E were good writers who could come up with organic character growth, and not shoehorned him in as Emma’s love interest in a way that ruined the whole show’s dynamic and sense of emotional depth by replacing Nealfire with him.
Nealfire’s death was the metaphorical death of the show’s canon, though. My personal headcanon was that the real show ended with “Going Home” (3x11) because that’s the last time there was any sort of compelling, consistent, organic, realistic, or relatable characterization or growth. After that, it all went to hell (literally), and I had to finally quit watching after S5 to preserve my sanity before anything got any worse, and on this show, it only would because A&E and these writers never learned.
A&E didn’t trust or respect their audience, so after awhile it felt like why should I respect their shitshow’s canon if it doesn’t make any consistent or well-developed sense, and they don’t care that it doesn’t themselves anymore either?

It’s probably why 3B-S7 feels so ooc cheesy shallow repetitive and stupid

When you see spoilers about a show you really used to love before it get beyond nonsense and now you're glad you finally give up on it. And most important you make sure to never ever watch shows made by the same creators&writers. Because you already know it'll be bad. Pretty sure they will keep lie and ruin most of the good stuff they made. :(

Yeah, that’s how I felt about the writing for Rumple and Belle’s characters in 6A, too, which is exactly why I didn’t bother watching any of it. I was worried that they were going to bring Rumbelle to an overdramatically OOC, convoluted. toxic, and stupid new low that I couldn’t forgive the writers for this time around after what they did to CS in 5A because Rumbelle was their only competition, and they had just made Emma and Hook treat each other way worse than Rumple had ever treated Belle as a Dark One.
Kitsis was a petty bastard who wouldn’t let that stand, even though 5A CS was still objectively far worse than 6A Rumbelle, anyway, but I can guarantee you that was why we got the OOC melodrama of the systematic character destruction of season season sucks for Rumbelle.
But yeah, from the spoilers I read I really didn’t like the way either Rumple or Belle were treating each other, nor did I recognize them, or take sides in 6A,
I didn’t really hate either of the characters for it, or blame them for any of it because it wasn’t who they were, and it didn’t make any sense. It was nonsensically OOC character destroying bad writing angst. It was just wildly OOC mindless systematic destruction of both of the individual characters and their relationship together in favor of creating contrived Drama™️ for a stupid plot that made absolutely no fucking sense. It honestly had gotten to the point where it was laughable how desperate Eddy was to vilify Rumple to prop up Hook and Zelena, and turn Rumple and Belle against each other.
I’ll always love Rumple, I’ll always love Belle, and I’ll always love Rumbelle. I’ll always ship them from “Skin Deep” to the end of S3, and in canon-divergent/AU fanon scenarios. But as far as I’m concerned, the real show ended with 3x11, and the mess that we saw on screen from 3B-S7 was an awful crack!fic on screen on ABC every Sunday night at 8:00PM that most of us stopped taking seriously after 5A when we realized that the show was all about H00k now, while all our faves got thrown under the bus for him.
I didn’t watch the episode last night, but I have gone through tumblr to see what happened. And I’m not seeing any ‘game changers’ that happened for Rumbelle. Oh yes, things changed but nothing happened to change my opinion on their dynamic for this season. They are who they are. They did what they did. And they were themselves being and doing. Just two desperate people doing increasingly desperate things until they smashed everything to pieces.
And so I have to say I don’t like either one of them anymore. I don’t recognize them and I don’t really care if they get back together or not. *sigh* I could go into more, but I doubt anyone cares what I think and I don’t want to contribute to nastiness in the fandom.
Maybe with a little time and space from the episodes (since we are apparently done with the smashing phase) I will be able to excise these episodes from my brain and enjoy future episodes. We’ll see.
I hope that people who are feeling good about the show or at least better about Rumbelle get what they want. And I hope they block whatever portions of the fandom they need to so they can continue feeling good and holding hope.
While I don’t like the current versions of either character, I’m not interested in any hate for them. No Belle hate. No Rumple hate. No Rumbelle hate.

Some thoughts on my future with watching Agents of Shield . . . . .
So I’ve decided, after I finish the S1 finale of AoS, to stop posting episode reactions, for several reasons:
1.  It’s becoming obvious to me that they’re going to get more and more negative as I proceed.  I have friends that I’ve had for a long time that are NOT negative about the show, and I don’t want to lose them as followers OR get into arguments with them.
2.  I’m really NOT interested in debating the show any longer.  I’ve made my choices on who I like, WHAT I like, and what I think of the writers.  I’m not open to discussion on it and my mind will NOT be changed.  So there’s really no point in posting anymore.
I will continue to watch . . . . but I’m probably going to look at spoilers going forward so I know how bad it’s going to get.  I also don’t know how long I’ll continue to watch.  I committed to 2 seasons and I’m honoring that for myself.  Beyond that?  We’ll see.  More under the cut . . .
This is a fictional show about fictional characters and my opinions on certain characters in NO WAY reflect what I’d do or how I’d feel in real life.  But I’m entitled to feel for and empathize with a fictional character no matter what he does.
As I said, I’ll post my reaction to the final S1 episode just to have the full season done like that.  After that -- I’ll be posting reactions as I see fit, when I’m in the mood, and I can guarantee you that 90% of them will be about Grant Ward and will probably be a lot of screaming and bitching and general negativity from me.
I’d also like to dive into the skyeward fandom and fanfic/fanon world in peace and without judgment.
Therefore, I won’t be posting in the general tag anymore.  Everything I post will be tagged #grant ward or #skyeward or #anti aos or #aos criticism.  (Are those the right tags to use for negativity?  Please let me know if they’re not because I want to post the proper tags so that those who follow me and don’t want to see them can block those tags.)  If you still want to follow me and not see my negativity, please block those tags.
I just came off of 7 years of bullshit in the OUAT fandom, and being ostracized in my OWN FANDOM for opinions (that were PROPERLY TAGGED) that weren’t all sweetness and light.  I’m still kind of bitter about that and not willing to do that here.  People are welcome to disagree about a television show, but I’m just NOT going to go through that drama and bullshit again.  So I’m firmly planting myself in the Grant Ward fandom RIGHT NOW and that is that.  End of discussion.  I’m not interested in the opinions of people who disagree with me because I’m not interested in arguing.  I’m sorry but I’m just NOT.  This show isn’t that important to me and I’m not willing to lose friends because of fictional characters.  Block the tags and talk to me about other stuff that we’re more compatible on, or just unfollow me if that’s not an option for you.
One thing I am glad for is this show introduced me to Brett Dalton.  He is wonderful and an absolute doll and I hope he has a great career ahead of him.  I will be following that.  You can expect Brett Dalton on my dash too.  Obviously that will be tagged #brett dalton.
I’m sorry if I disappoint anyone who encourged me to watch or who started following me because of my watch of this show.  I went into the show knowing NOTHING and expecting NOTHING and this is where I ended up, with ZERO outside pressure or fandom fuckery.  Well . . . now I’m slowly seeing the fandom fuckery as I proceed.  And I’m just not interested in that.  I already have enough of that on my plate with OUAT.
Thanks for reading and listening -- I hope I don’t lose many followers but if this is the only reason you’re following me and you’re not a Ward fan then I understand -- if you ever want to talk about other stuff, my inbox and messenger is always open.
Please look for my S1 finale post some time this weekend.

Stepford Swan, part elebenty:
Emma: You know what we have in common?
Hook: No, what?
Emma: I almost orphaned my little brother! Just like you did! Isn't that amazing? We're so alike!
Hook: No, Swan, that's---that's really not a good thing.

I keep seeing all these happy, bouncy, positive posts about Belle and OUAT
And I just don’t see it. I won’t reblog them and proffer my bewilderment, my point-of-view, because it won’t be wanted. I can see that.
BUT. I. DO. NOT. GET. IT.
Many fans are acting like 6A’s crazy plot has all been explained. Hallelujah, they’ve seen the Light! Belle’s behavior all makes sense, now . . . in that her poor choices are being focused on and, inexplicable though they are, she thought she was doing the right thing. Um, what?
Am I the only one who wants to scream that the Emperor is still fucking naked?
I don’t see her taking responsibility for arranging the kidnapping of THEIR baby (not “hers”; the baby was theirs)---nor its horrific outcome. I see no apology for trying to hurt her husband so deeply as to rip another child away from him to another realm. Fathers deserve to be in their children’s lives, and even the show creators have reminded us that Rumple is a great father. I see her making no apology for the pain she inflicted with her needless hurtful words. I don’t see her puzzling over how she could have possibly believed that nonsense she was given in her dreams. I don’t see the absurd behavior all making sense with the plot now anymore than I did, before, because they’re still working from the same narrative they always have: Rumple bad, Belle blameless.
Where is this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know he’d never want to hurt Belle this way, but I think we need to revisit this. I see the Belle of 6x11 wallowing in self-pity, but refusing to accept the harm she’s done her husband and their relationship. She’s accepted some blame for Gideon, but doesn’t seem to give a solitary thought to the potentially irreversible harm she’s done to their marriage . . . and how that damage may have, or already has, affected the outcome with Gideon. Rumple has mentioned---numerous times, now---working together to try to fix things. Not once has Belle accepted this offer, nor ever suggested it herself. Does she seem relieved he’s willing to offer an olive branch? Nope. It barely registers.
Twice in 6x11, Belle expressed that she didn’t know if Rumple wanted to help Gideon kill/wanted Gideon to succeed in killing. Who is this Belle? Where did this pod person!Belle come from?! This Belle doesn’t have the first clue who Rumple is. How could she be that far removed from knowing him?
I don’t know if it’s Emilie’s acting, or what is striking such an odd note for me in her scenes. Belle seemed insouciant at the well, similar to how she came off at the well in “Broken Heart” (5x10), when she met Rumple there to break his heart. “I know you’ve just become what I always said I wanted, but I no longer want that! See ya!”
Tumblr media
I can’t find the GIF, but I’ll never forget this scene and her mocking duck-lips (the still on the bottom left happens to stop on the nanosecond where she actually looks sad; the GIF shows how much it looks like she doesn’t have two fucks to rub together). Then, the incomprehensible return that night, the exhaustive makeup sex, followed by the problems in 5C, culminating with the sleeping curse. I’ll never forget the scenes in the pawnshop in “Heartless” (6x07), where she curled her lip and told him how his weakness was worse than pure evil. Okay, Milah 2.0, that’s enough!
I did NOT start writing this to be an anti-Belle post, but I just can’t seem to help it. I had to examine what I felt was wrong with “Tougher Than the Rest” (6x11), which is best done by comparing her behavior and dialogue from before. It’s best done by looking at how little Belle’s motivations are explained, or how they’re handwaved away with “Rumple, EVIL”. I was only going to express my puzzlement at what seems like 95% of the fandom which is giddy with joy. Are they faking some of it? Agreeing with the Emperor to come off as “good fans” or perpetually positive ones?
Where’s my joy? I loved Belle. They took everything about her that made her special and soured it. She’s not compassionate; she’s cruel. I hear her spout things that I’ve only heard from Rumple-hating fans. I feel robbed. I feel tricked. Where’s my joy? Belle’s a hypocrite, embracing the worst of Storybrooke and giving them a free pass---but not Rumple, saving all her judgement for him. I hear you saying,”Well, can’t Belle have flaws, too?!” Yes, but it would be nice if they meshed with her earlier characterization. People have excused the banishment with the trait “impulsiveness”. Okay, but, upon reflection, where was the regret? How is impulsiveness even recognized if no questioning of one’s actions occurs? (There was that brief moment at the well in 4B, but Regina made her forget that, so---never mind.) Instead, she doubled-down on insisting she was right and consorting with her husband’s long-time enemies. Earlier Belle had a deep streak of curiosity that was almost reckless. Where were her questions for her husband in season 4 or season 5 or season 6? What happened to digging into the puzzle that was him?
Where’s my joy? I think it left when OUAT started doing everything they could to destroy Rumbelle, and to embrace this nonsensical view of morality and “heroes and villains”. Life isn’t black and white, kiddies. It never has been. OUAT purported to be “twists” on fairytales. I expected shades of gray, unlike traditional fairytales. I thought we had that, but OUAT left that behind.
The writers have ruined canon Rumbelle for me, and they’re not even on the road to fixing it. I have no hope they will fix it, since they couldn’t find that road with their own, personal, dedicated satellite system.

quinninthenorth replied to your chat “David: blah blah blah I don't know if I'm gonna be able to pay you...”
Totally agree with your tags. I'm also out of fucks about whether it was "blessing" or "permission". I've had a person comment that he said it was Emma's decision. That doesn't change a damn thing. What kind of message does it send when a man agonises over how to talk to his gf's father about marriage, rather than focusing on his relationship and thinking about whether this is something Emma would want in the first place.
Exactly. Having their approval is SECONDARY. She’s an adult. She’s not a commodity nor a liability, nor does she need anyone’s protection, whether that’s physical or financial. I don’t care how “old-fashioned” one is; there are some traditions that should be discarded, because of what they indicate by their very existence.
If Emma weren’t the pod-person she’s become, she’d be the first to make that clear.

Yeah, and then there’s the fact that the canon narrative let Belle get away with turning traitor on her own personal values at the drop of a hat from one episode to the next whenever she and Rumple had some sort of conflict to vilify him by breaking his sanity from 4x11 onwards. She abused the dagger, and banished Rumple with nothing, and never apologized. She gave him false hope for their relationship twice to get her on his side from one episode to the next. In the Underworld, she kept insisting “no dark magic,” but then went to Zelena to get a sleeping curse to put herself under to “protect” their child because she couldn’t trust Rumple more than his abuser and the murderer of his son.
Then, we start out 6A with Rumple doing everything to wake her up from the sleeping curse, even attempting TLK, and Belle actually telling him that she’d rather stay in a sleeping curse to give their unborn child his “best chance” in a fiery pit of burning embers.
Next, we have Belle bizzarely insisting that she didn’t need Rumple’s protection because her “friends” could help her, even though he tried to warn her about Hyde. He overreacted with the protection spell, and I didn’t like his shitty attitude about it. However, Belle was actually being pretty reckless and unreasonable by pushing him away and being mean to him because of a dream.
Then, we have Rumple start going down the tubes and acting OOC when he allies with the EQ, and makes some bizarre plan with magic scissors to supposedly use on their son to “make him love him.” Belle has every right to be angry, but to be needlessly cruel with that “too weak to be good” shit in response to his fear of failing their son was OOC verbal abuse.
Then, we literally have Belle attempting to kidnap their unborn baby with Zelena across another realm forever because Rumple locked the door of his shop. In real life, she would be in prison for this shit because even “suspicious” parents get supervised visitation rights, and Rumple didn’t actually trap her, or do anything to directly threaten to physically harm her until she did that shit.
It’s not an excuse for Rumple’s treatment of Belle in 6X04, 6x08, or 6x09. Belle did not deserve that shit. I wasn’t trying to absolve Rumple, or cheer him on for emotionally/mentally hurting Belle in 6x04, 6x08, and 6x09 in response to her continued emotional/mental abuse of him for three months now. No, I was disgusted by the writing for him, too. However, I tended to get more annoyed with the writing for Belle in S5 and 6A because it was obvious that she was being misused as an OOC mindless plot device to vilify Rumple by being needlessly and triggeringly cruel, borderline emotionally manipulative, and stupid to push him over the edge. I tended to be harder on Belle because of the hypocrisy surrounding her entire relationship with Rumple in the narrative from S4-S6 as this “blameless victim” when she hurt him just as badly and inexcusably as he had hurt her, if not far worse, and a male character in her shoes would be torn to shreds by fans and the GA for many of the OOC fucked up emotionally/mentally scarring things she did and said to Rumple.
I think OUAT was the first show I watched that taught me the difference between hating a fictional character and hating the writers behind them. I don’t really hate any of the characters on OUAT, I just hate how much A&E and their shitty creative team behind them wasted their fantastic potential and fucked them all up for their OOC, gross, convoluted, melodramatic, and stupid soap opera plots, and petty biases.
I enjoyed S7 more because I got fatigue of S4-6 with CS. Hook was more enjoyable in S7, though the show got messy and confusing near the end. But I think they killed Rumple so he got his happy ending with Belle and because he still did a lot of bad shit where as Regina turned good more quickly. Regina being named The Good Queen was cringe af and just sums up the show’s writing after a few seasons.
I was surprised I actually liked Wish!Hook cuz I was always indifferent to Hook. I get they had kill Rumple to be with Belle but I m also still bitter they killed Belle for no reason.
I can see why Rumple died though because his character went back and forth so many times whereas once Regina changed she changed. She didn’t go back to the dark side. Rumple was still doing shady things on the side lmao.
Regina the good queen scene was so cringe worthy! I know she is the character with the best development in the show but her being queen in this au world is weird?? I feel the last scene should have been in Storybrooke…i get they were trying to mirror first scene of the series but it was so corny and didn’t make sense.
Also, so fucking confusing with having teen Henry and adult Henry and two hooks and just was unneeded. 🤨
