Fans of Bach’s solo violin works may recognise the theme of this Capriccio No. 11, Opus 125, used by Italian violinist-violist Marco Anzoletti (1866-1929). Played by Marco Miscagna, we see that the viola is capable of delivering polyphonic pieces. According to this interesting article at The Violinist, the work is tremendously difficult.

Hilary Hahn’s astonishing performance of Bach’s Sonata No. 3 in C Major for solo violin. Pay attention to her phrasing during the fiendish fugue-- quite astonishing. She makes the violin sound like an organ.

I had often skipped by this video, since the Chaconne recording was 9 minutes long. A mistake: Wladimir Kossjanenko is a brilliant violist. Here he plays the first part of Bach’s Chaconne from the Partita No. 2 in D Minor.
