yknow due to internet poisoning when i saw someone had written a character addressing a family member as "babe" in their fic my first thought was "oh god theyre gonna get comments from ALL the wrong people" and it occurred to me that i have no idea how common that actually is as a term of endearment from family

#is it common enough for people not to misread it?#my mom has always used 'babe' toward us #mostly before the age of 10-12 and she does it to other younger relatives as well #so like thats just normal to me #i low key hate that ive witnessed enough bullshit that my first thought was 'uh-oh theyre gonna get pr0ship AND anti comments about it'#rather than 'oh hey my family does that too'#the internet has impacted my ability to enjoy things without analyzing every way it could be misinterpreted </3 #(the big reason i probably had that concern is that it's a fandom where theres a LOT of. shipping of relatives)#it totally felt like a thing the character would say though and if i werent a coward id incorporate it into how i write him #im just too worried about people choosing to interpret it as romantic/as having Implications and then getting mad about it #bc that shit is SO annoying #but yeah does like. anyone else's family do that?#babe baby babydoll are all really common from my mom. dad used to call my sister and i sweets and things along those lines #oh mom also uses honey and darlin' sometimes
