kiran singh goes "oh? you want to learn about different cultures on earth?" and forces kara zor-el to watch the baahubali franchise. it is not a cultural exchange so much as it is... well, i hesitate to say psychological torment, but it's close
i know they've never interacted on page or anything but hear me out. i think another fantastic option for "women kara zor-el could kiss" is kiran singh (solstice). she's literally got sunlight powers she NEEDS to kiss a kryptonian. also her parents are archaeologists and i think science guild kara, who wanted to study earth culture to help facilitate kryptonian relations with earth before kandor got mcfucked, could appreciate that and enjoy hanging out with the whole family. women. ive heard of them
#the music and costuming in the baahubali movies are great. the rest...#if you have ever seen that clip of guys launching themselves over city walls using palm trees as catapults#that's from baahubali 2 and i need you to know it's played COMPLETELY straight as something incredibly strategic and badass.#and the main character is so annoying and also only knows how to make one (1) facial expression#ditto for the main villain#these movies are about 3 hours long each.#i watched one of them in theatres with my dad's friend's family. they all thought it was a cinematic masterpiece#and i was just sitting there like WHAT. WHAT DID WE JUST WATCH. THAT WAS SO DUMB. HELLO?#anyway if you ever have six hours to kill and want to expose yourself to one of the most inscrutable things to come out of indian cinema#like. again. the music and costuming are so fucking incredible. the story and the acting are so bad aksdjhfakjsd

SALAAR (SPOILER ALERT)
continuing my tags from a previous post (sorry 😭 @deadloverscity) : like i said, i do think salaar is a good story so far. I like the world-building, I like the tribe coalition system that becomes a background for our story, and i like the fact that varadha and deva are in a toxic yaoi relationship.
im not gonna lie tho, i just haaaate the cinematography and lighting in prashant neel's movies. it's always a bad time there. It's like slapping a vignette over every frame of the movie, and it takes away any colour whatsoever. I understand that he wants to go for a dark vibe, but trust me, dark vibes can be achieved even without making the entire movie dark and invisible. I literally cannot see the actors doing any action! It's bad! It's not enjoyable. As a typical Telugu moviegoer (and assuming the movie was made for a predominantly telugu audience), I enjoy a somewhat vibrant colour scheme. So far, in all of our movies and even the mega movies (if you have watched RRR and Baahubali) there is a lot colour and imagery going on in the movies. I think in Prashant neel's cinemas, all of this is taken away. He has a set of colours that appear in his films consistently - which are black, grey and red. This colour scheme i feel, if repeatedly used, can be a bit boring and may take away the vibrance of the story. the stark contrasts (imo) do not emphasise the story, they overshadow it. still, take this w a grain of salt.
However, considering the fact that this is just his fourth film, ill cut him some slack. But man, if he is going to make movies for a telugu audience, i hope he lets go of the vignette filter.
next, the worldbuilding. i like it - here is a country that is completely separated from india, yet dictates certain aspects of it. i like that they chose an isolated place that evolves in parallel with the mainland, but retains the values of the tribes, making this place mythical and real at the same time. i was really intrigued by the tribe lore - about how the mannars ousted the shouryangas, and how rajamannar basically went against his own father's rule-book and is now facing dire consequences from bharava, whose tribe has the right to the throne right now. i also love love love loveeeeeee the fact that deva is the rightful heir to the throne - and also also the fact that whether he knows about this or not is left ambiguous. i love how this adds another layer to amma's hatred of khansaar and OH. MY. GOD. chef's kiss i love it.
as a personal taste, i don't like violence and epic fights tm overshadowing the narrative, which i feel the movie does. however, kannada film-making might be different. idk, i havent seen many kannada films other than kantara and kgf. the former is good i absolutely love it - the story is fantastic, the fight scenes are chumma, ufff i can praise it for days. the latter is pretty meh for me.
another thing i love about the movie is.. well, varadha and deva. dude, what is up with telugu guys unintentionally making queer movies these days? what is up with that yallll??? ohmygod. when i tell you that i smelled the romance im not lying. dude. dudeee. the whole friends to enemies to (maybe) friends/lovers arc theyve got going on? oooh baby i can feel the fanfics writing themselves. the whole soaked in blood-fighting-together scene? it was a miracle i wasnt jumping up and down on my seat. the dialogue in that scene 'i have friends more handsome than you' and then varadha getting kinda jealous and shit. lovely. the whole don't touch him thing that deva has got going on - baby boy just kiss him. and man. it's beautiful tragic and im writing a fanfic.
soo yeah this is my rant about salaar. im expecting something from it lol.

RRR Prompt
Title: SSR Villain Get Along
Plot: 3 of SSR'S most notable villains imo, which includes Sudeep (from the movie Eega), Bhallaladeva (from the Bahubali movies), and Scott Buxton (from the movie RRR), sit in a pub/bar and talk about their disdain for each others heroes who defeated them.
Tone: Probably a dark comedy
P.S, how many of SSR'S movies have you watched and how would you rank them (with reasons provided)?
Oh no I think I may have set expectations too high friend 😅😅. Just because I'm so completely obsessed with this movie should not be used as evidence that I am a movie buff. TBH I see like less than 10 non-animated movies a year, if that. I am not a big movie person. I've only seen the two Baahubalis and RRR from SSR so far. I'll try to watch his other movies at some point, but no idea when.
I feel so bad turning down a second prompt from you but I cannot write for characters I both don't know and am not drawn in by. This prompt is beyond me, but I'll share it if others have any ideas for this story.
Send me a prompt for any of the characters/movies I've already written for, and there is a higher chance I'll be able to give you something. (Plus my forte is fluff/general fic. Don't go for darker stuff cause I DO NOT know how to write it properly 😅)

Movie Review: GEETHASAKSHIGA (2023)
After RRR, Baahubali, Pushpa and Saaho, Tollywood has produced another gem in 2023. This time, it's an emotionally charged, feminist courtroom-drama called Geetha Sakshiga. Directed by Anthony Mattipalli, written and produced by Chetan Maisuria, the movie recently hit the theatres on 7th April 2023 and is available in Telugu and Hindi languages. The movie has Aadarsh, Chitra Shukla and Rupesh Shetty as its primary characters.
Here is the synopsis of the movie:
Arjun is a DJ in a popular pub in hyderabad. He falls for Amoolya. Things change when the police arrest him for allegedly raping and killing an innocent girl. After five years, ACP Roopesh reopens the case to find out the truth behind the heinous crime. Did Arjun really commit the crime, or was he framed by someone else?
I recently went to a theatre and watched this beautiful, feminist courtroom-drama. The movie is about Arjun, who is a DJ at a pub in Hyderabad, played by Aadarsh. Arjun is an emotional, sensitive and caring young man. His kind-heartedness is visible in his behaviour- he is a doting son to his mother, a fun teacher to his students- whom he teaches music for free and is responsible towards his family. His family decided to marry him and being a devoted son, he agrees. Soon however, he realises he isn’t in love with the person his family chose for him. His dilemma grows as he falls in love with a beautiful young woman- Amoolya (played by Chirtra Shukla). His life completely changes when he gets convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for brutally raping and murdering a girl. Despite being innocent, he gets wrongly convicted and has to accept his fate. However, 5 years down the line, the case is reopened by ACP Roopesh, Played by R. Shetty. He once again has to prove his innocence in court, in front of the same people and the media who wrongly accused him and condemned him five years ago. The only change this time around is that he has a saviour- a good lawyer. I wouldn’t spoil the movie for you guys but do know that it isn’t who you think it is.
The movie is an empowering tale of a man who is shunned by society and media for a crime he didn’t commit and how he is saved by the women in his life. The movie is a realistic reflection of society and the world in general. A lot of times innocent people are wrongly accused for heinous crimes, what ensues is a media frenzy and open trial, a narrative gets formulated and the real trial gets affected. Meanwhile, the culprit roams free to commit more crimes. The movie shows how even the law is subject to the influence of power and money. It beautifully handles and depicts power dynamics that run the society.
In addition, crimes such as rape are extremely common, women face violence everyday and the law fails to provide justice to the victim and their family. The movie depicts this sad reality with great sensitivity.
Arjun is a good character but the thing that makes this movie special for me is its female characters. Females in popular media are stereotypical, helpless, and fit certain moulds, present only to charm the audiences and be the male lead’s love interest. This trend has plagued the tollywood industry and other indian industries in general. This movie however, not only has plenty of different types of female characters, it shows how these females have agency over their own lives and possess the power to change the narrative. These women contribute to the narrative and add value to it. Amoolya is not merely the love-interest of Arjun, she is also a driver of the plot, she is the hero, the saviour of the story.
The real hero in this movie is a female, not a male and that is what makes it special.
Apart from having complex themes, the movie is a majestic cinematic experience and a great entertainer. I definitely recommend you all to watch this movie ASAP, it is available in your nearest theatres.

[ad_1] Is there a Baahubali 3 in the works? Producer KE Gnanavel Raja believes so. While talking about his upcoming production, Siva’s Kanguva starring Suriya, the producer spoke about the sequels of Baahubali, Kalki 2898 AD and Salaar, according to a report by Desimartini. ‘In planning stages’ Discussing a potential sequel for Kanguva and how rigid timelines are no longer mandatory to hook the audience’s interest, Gnanavel spilled the beans about a potential sequel for SS Rajamouli’s Prabhas-starrer. He said, “Baahubali 3 is in the planning stages. I found out while discussing with filmmakers last week. They did Baahubali 1 and 2 back-to-back, but they’re now planning Baahubali 3 after a gap.” He also gave examples of the sequels for Kalki 2898 AD and Salaar, which will be made after a gap, as will Kanguva’s sequel. For the unversed, Gnanavel was the distributor for the Tamil version of the 2015 film Baahubali: The Beginning. Expanding the Baahubali universe Baahubali writer Vijayendra Prasad and Prabhas denied in interviews that Baahubali 3 is possible. Rajamouli, too, spoke to the press in May while promoting the animated series Baahubali: Crown of Blood and expressed a desire to expand the Baahubali universe beyond films. He had said, “As filmmakers, we must step it up and explore all mediums. People like books, novels, games, anime (Asian animation). The idea is to take the story of Baahubali to people like them. And yet, look at us. We are still talking about the cliffhanger of Baahubali: The Beginning and how the film was effective when told in two parts. That mindset needs to change.” Rajamouli will soon direct Mahesh Babu on an action-adventure that has yet to go on floors. The film was supposed to go into production this year but pre-production is yet to be completed. [ad_2] Source link

Cassiopeia, daughter of the great Devil. Eight stars by eight is 88 constellations. 58 5 by 8 pointed stars. The rosary. The 5 star constellation to name Cassiopeia. The celestial mother of wayfair travellers. And the five reindeer stags. Whip and chariot. The forbidden purple enclosure of the north star. The throne. Santa clause is coming to town. Well that was fun.
5 + 17 is 22. Not my experience of it. Less god more perverts.
5+7 = 12. Hanged man.
Unifying number is 2. Inside the church. The hanged man is given to 10. The wheel.
Anyway.
Letter A. Is a feather. I fallen white feather. Though others have placed a black one. Aside the feather. It’s a kite. Learning to fly a kite. Trying to easenit with the wind. Letter A is all things aerial.
Where’d his heart go? I don’t know. He’s dead inside.
Though, be the first time ive seen a manifestation of a card that doesn’t yet exist. I can correct the moon card. Ive seen. And the sun card is identical to the marseille card. Except that it lacks the superficial barrier separating the two children. As they play “ball”. In my case, badminton. That wall in the background should be placed in the middle ground. A short wall, easily passed over.
Hidden soviet-tarot- symbols hidden in plain sight.
18+31=49. ≠13 ≠4
R, Temperance/moon + 10 wheel. M/Q Death. D, Emperor/empress.
18 Р 31 Я. У 13. Г 4.
Mixes tarot with the qwerty. And leaves aside the yet undefined jcuzen.
For letters RЯ. Completes a mussing piece and spells out the dangers of the moon, and the death function of all material attachments.
For example on the possibility of card letter Аа. Not much mention of the magician here save that paired with the fallowing Башня card of the tower. On this count it works simultaneously to both qwerty and jcuzen type sets.
On the horror scene of lightning and the kite. And the creation of life. Frankenstein. To Benjamin franklin catching lightning with a kite. To the missing key of the image.
Electricity is bonded to the life force. Through the use of defibrillators. And serves as a protection charm. Here also not too. Far away is the theft of fire. And a fib isn’t just a lie. But a fabrication of story. Inconsequential to or of little importance. As one passes over truth, and may yet still continue on being in the palm of my hand here.
And welcome to 9-11. The beginning of a script
The picture of the hermit holding his smart phone paired next to justice. Or “strength” watching the mother feminine wrestling away his pride. His voice and his will of command.
Justices will is lunar by nature and thus reactive in its acts to sever the life force.
By jcuzen, 9 and 11 have been given to something else. З and Й. Letter Зз the fertile grounds of the mind. Imagination building. As letter 3 brings it back to letter Вв. To letter C. And one of the letters ties it to the high priestess. Aka temple of solomon. In a cut out stand alone story of the book of god inside a golden throne or sacred resting place where all evil is left outside the gate. Here plays in the magician card. But B also means something else. Not saying. Iduhno.
If Й is given to judgement. Then it plays true all the way through all connections made here today. Though judgement. Given to the perverse. The majority of the world. Is anything but sacred.
And what is seen at this step past letter Б, as for in the present tower. What lays outside of that crumbled state. The story begins and is held all the way through.
Should invest in some scotch. And suck on that for while.
But im not living this perverted twisted framed life they’ve given me. My suicide plan is still alive and well. Fear i may never finish this card game.
They cheated, god. I can’t function anymore. And im never going to learn how to live.
Yeah, still my favourite movie. Baahubali. Images that are completely missing from americano bs. Which does everything in its power to degenerate masculinity with pompous bs mixed with villainy.
I prime example. Even has the ametica in it. American gods. Starts off, like most do. Inmocentky enough. Then it loops over everything with perversion. Poor clark kent. With his secret rainbow identity and when he steps out of thr closet… the entire smalltown claps and cheers him on. Yay! Oh well. What to expect from a canadian show overlayering the southern states. And their conservatis laws of illegality.
Fuck the entire northern american continent.
Wonder ifvthe bible will olay out true and whch teo countries are sodom and gamorah. Since i was born to be owned and dominated by twisted perdonalities. Which is obvious to me now. Is never going to end because it always was. Elation brings me to thoughts of the end of this world.
Portents though that fallow the rabbit. Are some of my least favourite. Busy rodents. The gofer doesn’t seem to offer much in the way of symbolism. Not to my count. But the rabbit, there being no Hares. Ties back to lost and found. Depending on which card precedes it. Not the most pleasant of happenings. So i said fuck it. My new state to lack of care. I left to go get mine. Concession, and pleasant interaction.
All of those years to bring me to this point. All those years of framing me up to states of being. All those years of the same preceding all that. It’s always been the company paired to. All the violence. All dispositions of being a centre of gravity: to everything thats wrong. Bringing out my worst. It’s all its ever been others meddling with my affairs. From birth to 40 years on. Constant. Iv’e never done that not once. Addiction. And all that’s entropic. Ive been swallowed by a state of darkness. Over 25 years ago. Any attempt at anything is nothing. I just wait. And that waiting is getting nearer to its absence. And my act will close all light. Whichnisn’t much of a loss cause there’s nothing good in it. Never has been never will be. Im done.
Portents still speaking strong. A rabbit, a crow in sheeps clothing and a dove. The second two repeat twice. Sabotage mixed with good will. And the fucken rabbit of loss, found is only attained through effort.
Wish there were other animals, but no, not really.
There were also blue jays further ahead. And bluejays are all about cooperation. But are found in between the two sets of two.
As it’s set. Alot more to do.
Poor john wick. Everyone keeps calling you a woman after then killed you dog and stole you car. No Womder your mad.
Here’s never learning how to socially assert myself. And to the unsatisfying sex all never have. And to never being wble to do anything witg myself. Tried learning how. Never allowed. Ill just stay in the same state i have for the last 40 years. Being subject to others tyranixal rule.
Its the endweek end again. So its just me. With nothign to do. No orders to fallow. No one to see or talk to. No wonderni still smoke. 25 straight years of that. I dont want to be alive anymor e
“You got any olans this weekend?! Hope you have a great weekend” donyou have a wife? Any children? How about your family?” Fuck you. Yeahs everything is great! I dont even know what havign a fucken friend is like. So fuck you and die.
Doritos, marijuaana ans vedio games. I wont be too conscious for most of this weekend. Ill wake up on monday and go backnto work.

Baahubali is the kind of movie that hollywood is too fucking scared to make. not an ironic bone in its body, no jokes, no ironic detachment, no self-awareness or lampshading, simply an Epic story being told completely straight. No pretense of realism or being grounded, it lives in the realm of myth, telling tales of larger-than-life heroes performing epic feats. there is so much movie in that movie and it is completely unashamed to be what it is. American movies sometimes almost feel embarrassed by their own subjects, and I’m fucking sick of it

Ponniyin Selvan has been watched (at a rather very late time last night) so here’s my review? (though I am in no position to review a mani ratnam film)
(I would like to emphasize this is my personal opinion and I would not like to start a war. There’s already one happening on Twitter if you’d like to go pick a bone)
Would I say this is the best Mani Ratnam film I’ve watched? No.
Would I say it’s his best from the past decade?. Heck yeah!
The movie (like one kind person said on this app) is fast paced and slow paced. If you’ve read atleast the first book, you’ll realize how jam packed the scenes are but if you’re clueless as to who the heck even the cholas are, this is gonna be one heck of a slow ride for you.
This movie is COMPLETELY different from the rajamouli periodic films (because some idiots on Twitter are comparing it to baahubali). There are barely any elevations, and the actors are very simply, just there when it’s time (in fact the only character that gets “a proper intro” is Aditya Karikalan, and it’s literally just him riding his horse through mist). Everything is super subtle and more pleasing on the aesthetic side. It’s more like an art film, like the ones of Kurosawa, than it is a commercial one like Rajamouli’s.
(Although, I actually am very interested to see how rajamouli would utilize a LOADED story like ponniyin selvan)
If you are planning on watching this movie, I would recommend reading the character descriptions on Wikipedia, because guess what? Mani sir does it again. Like in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, every character has an important role, but mani sir is practically running out of time to explore the characters deep enough, so we just get mere glances into who they actually are.
BUT THE ACTING (my lord the acting) does HEAVILY compensate for that. Simple glances, body language, voice modulations, if one observes carefully, they can understand what type of a person said character is.
For me personally, Karthi (my man), Trisha, and Aishwarya Rai SWEPT ME OFF MY FEET. Karthi is AMAZING as Vandiyadevan. Trisha and Aishwarya Rai can step on me and I WILL APOLOGIZE. My god. Their initial face off scene is one of, if not the best scene for me in the movie. (Also Vandiyadevan is one hell of a mood for simping over literally EVERYONE in this movie).
In the very little screen time that is given, Chiyaan Vikram is ABSOLUTELY fantastic (pleaseeee more characters where he actually acts and not just shows is skill of being versatile) and so is the rest of the main cast, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Shobitha. They’re on for very little, but when they are, you will not be able to take your eyes off of them.
And finally. The man of the hour. The person who literally carried this movie like Ponni did Arul Mozhi Varman. ISAI PUYAL AR RAHMAN. My god what did we do to deserve him? Many said the songs slowed down the pace, but honestly it kind of worked for me. And the BACKGROUND SCORE. HOLY CRAP IM GONNA NEED THAT OST. Super unique score and it kind of reminded me of Thiruda Thiruda (Donga Donga) Rahman where he just experiments with different styles and it works wonders. My personal favorite has to be the one that plays during the entire act of Kundavai and Nandini meeting for the first time. Some others are definitely when Vandiyadevan and Kundavai meet (and, of course, Vandiyadevan falls for her) and the ending of Chola Chola.
That is all. Sorry it’s ridiculously long.

The mythological history of Tamil
Almost every ancient language has mythology associated with it, most ancient languages are further connected to divinity or are sacred themselves. Prominent examples of this are Sanskrit, Latin, Arabic and Hebrew. While Sanskrit and Latin were reserved for a small class of people, perpetuating their extinction, it’s the opposite for Arabic and Tamil. The sacredness of the languages mean that everyone should respect and preserve the language and hence the rate of change in these languages from the classical period is quite less compared to the norm. There is a great negative perception surrounding Tamil nationalism and I hope this text on the mythology and history shows the beautiful side, how it unites the different social groups and their various interpretations of the language, starting with Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Christians, Muslims and social justice in rural/urban society and how they all come together in the embodiment of the language.
The mythology of the story starts off with the sage Agastya (Agattiyar, kurumuni). As David Schulman writes…
It seems that when Agastya was sent south by the gods to balance the earth, he at first felt rather insecure about one essential matter, which he explained to Śiva:
‘They say the Tamil land, where I am headed,
is full of poetry [tŏṭai pĕṟu tamiḻ nāṭ’ ĕṉpa].
Everyone there has studied Tamil and has achieved sweet Tamil wisdom. I should be able
to respond when asked a question.
So kindly heal my ignorance and give me
the book of natural, correct Tamil [antac cĕn tamiḻ iyaṉūl].’
Here is a request the god cannot refuse; he places before him the “first book” (mutaṉūl), which Agastya studies thoroughly before taking up his post.
We find Agastya (kurumunī) mentioned as having been there at the very beginning of Tamil, in the first academy (caṅkam = Sangam) together with the gods Śiva, Murugan, and Kubera and 545 other members of this august body. Not only that: his book, the Akattiyam, was the book (nūl) for this first academy and for all the 4,449 poets”.
The Sangam as well as the structured domain of Tamil poetry that it embodies are now complete. God himself drifts repeatedly into his role as a poet; but he is also clearly an editor and a grammarian, setting up criteria of excellence and differentiation among texts that look, superficially, alike. To be god, in south India, is to work on reality through the instrumentality of metrical sounds during the sangam period. A great example of the praising of lord Shiva in the modern times is from Baahubali (Tamil).
3 of the 5 sangam epics that are celebrated today were written by Jains, such as the Nālaṭiyār, the Silappatikaram, the Valayapathi and the Seevaka Sinthamaṇi and one of the classical products of that period is the ancient Tamil Buddhist epic-poem Manimekalai.
During the colonial period, the Tamil language became further embodied in the goddess, the Tamil mother (Tamil Thai). Here Tamil itself is personified as the goddess, her characteristics being divinity (teyvattaṉmai), classicality (uyarttaṉicemmai), purity (tūymai), antiquity (toṉmai) and motherhood (tāymai). Adorned with a Garland of letters, Tamil Thai holds in her hands palm leaf manuscripts, a japa mala, the torch of knowledge and a Sengottu yazh. In praise of her we find beautiful poetry, two of which are quoted below.
‘O sweet Tamiḻttāy! May you flourish forever here and offer grace to your devotees!
You produced the poetry of Kapilar and other poets of the good academy in the southern land.
You fed the world with the Kuṟaḷ of Valluvar.
You destroyed darkness with mighty Kamban.
......
You stand as source of all learning.
......
You caused learning to grow among women.
......
You created scholars to nourish our minds.
O fine Tamiḻttāy! Look at all you have accomplished!’
(Velayutam Pillai 1971: 41-42
‘O Tamiḻttāy, may you flourish blissfully as a sovereign queen!
You gave birth to us, and embracing us, fed us nectar from your beautiful breasts;
You taught us to speak as infants, and also the full meaning of numerous words;
You caused our evil habits to flee, and firmly established in their stead good conduct that is dearer than life and fame. . . .
You taught us to respect ourselves, and teaching us about the experiences of the past and the present,
You have shown us the road to eternal release!’
(Velayutam Pillai 1971: 4
But it doesn’t just stop with a Hindu interpretation. In Tamil folk music as Dalit liberation theology Zoe C. Sherinian shows how Christian Dalits (once known as untouchables or outcastes) in southern India have employed music to protest social oppression and as a vehicle of liberation. Her focus is on the life and theology of a charismatic composer and leader, Reverend J. Theophilus Appavoo, who drew on Tamil folk music to create a distinctive form of indigenized Christian music. Appavoo composed songs and liturgy infused with messages linking Christian theology with critiques of social inequality. An example Tamil Christian devotion in modern times is beautifully embodied in this song.
In the book, the light of knowledge, Francis Cody writes:
For rural women, due to caste based oppression they had to petition the state to get things done. The act of petitioning the state was in no way an ordinary or obvious course to take for these women, who had never stepped foot in a school. It was the result of massive amounts of work. The people described above were all participants in the Arivoli Iyakkam, the “Light of Knowledge,” or “Enlightenment,” movement. The villagers from Katrampatti, their activist neighbor, Karuppiah, and even the collector were taking part in this social movement, which sought to make political agents of rural women and to disseminate scientific knowledge through the spread of written language. Over the course of nearly twenty years, from 1990 until the movement ended in 2009, the Arivoli Iyakkam managed to mobilize huge numbers of people from across the Tamil countryside. In the small, rural district of Pudukkottai over three hundred thousand villagers participated in literacy lessons, science demonstrations, and other Arivoli events. Across southern India the number reached the millions. By the time of my fieldwork in the early 2000s, it was no longer unusual for groups of women like those from Katrampatti to write petitions or to pursue other forms of interaction with local state offices. In modern times women empowerment is present in songs such as singapenney.
Lastly, The Arab Muslim Traders and the native Tamil converts to Islam in Tamilnadu state of India and Sri Lanka came into closer contact as a result of their commercial activities. They were bound by a common religion, but separated by two different languages They felt the necessity for a link-language. They started to write Tamil in an adapted Arabic script called Arabu-Tamil. The Arabu-Tamil or Arwi script represents the Tamil language using an Arabic style of scripts. From 8th century to 19th century, this language enjoyed its popularity among Tamil speaking Muslims of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. It rendered a most useful service for the advancement and progress of Arab and Tamil cultures. The result was the best-known literary work of Muslim Tamil, the Cīṟāppurāṇam, probably the finest large-scale narrative poem in Tamil in the seventeenth century; this vast work, largely modeled on Kamban, tells the story of Muḥammad in a Hijaz that has been reimagined as the verdant Tamil land, complete with the classic tiṇai. These texts had a rich body of work in jurisprudence, sufism, law and medicine but sadly saw a decline in the 20th century with no attempts to arrest the decline. In the system of modern education, Muslim children failed to learn Arabu-Tamil language, as it was out of the school curriculum. In the system of religious educational institutions, the Urdu syllabus known as Silsilatun Nizamiyyah was adopted by the Madrasahs in the beginning of the 20th century in Tamil Nadu. Arabu-Tamil as a language and subject did not find a place in that syllabus. The decline of Arabu-Tamil language is a great loss to the Tamil Muslim community as this was their religious language. It had safeguarded the interest of this community. It was fondly and reverently nurtured by noble savants. However, in recent years the mixing of Arabic and Tamil is beginning again with songs such as: Tala Al Badru Alayna and Arabic Kuthu.
There were of course several criticisms of radical Tamil nationalism, embodied succinctly in this poem.
‘Intiyattāy [Mother India] languishes in sorrow, and you speak of your own community!
That is disgraceful!
O Tamilian, break the chains that enslave that venerable woman…!
Long live the Tamil land!
May our Tamil language flourish, so that our Intiyattāy who supports us may find fulfillment.’
(Ramalinga Pillai 1988: 29
The sentiment echoed in the voices of Indian Tamilians is the underlying idea that “unity in diversity” is our strength. Let Tamilians be Tamilians so we can all be Indians. Tamizhi and Semmozhi manadu are two such songs which echo such an identity. To finish it off, here’s a link to a song celebrating some of the greatest freedom fighters of India! (Also two of the songs are from Tollywood but what's more desi than remaking or dubbing the same content in the numerous languages)
I hope this piece helps people understand our unconditional devotional pride toward the language regardless of caste or creed which can sometimes come across as too extreme to other people.

My favorite fic of yours is Silences and Insanities, believe it or not.
I believe you, friend. That story has my heart even now and I hope someday I can complete all the companion works that I began writing for it. Baahubali has an emotional core that is hard to compete with. And Silences and Insanities gave me a way to explore its extremes without having to deal with the trauma of a female character's abuse, which is something I personally cannot deal with.
How are you? I miss the old days...

Hi!! Saw you needed a pick me up! You want to give me a word and I’ll see if it’s in my next chapter for fountain of ichor? :)
Or we can just chat:
What movie do you find gives you a lot of inspiration or motivation in pursuing your dream of film making? 😃 (getting deep quick, I know...😬)
oooouuu yes please. Fountain of Ichor is now the canon s2 of The Irregulars. ummm imma give the word “love” 👀
we can have a chat too! i love deep conversations lol. There’s a lot of movies that have influenced me as a filmmaker, especially Bollywood movies cuz that’s what I grew up with. PK is one of them, same with Big Fish and The Truman Show. I love thought-provoking stories, and i think that’s something I’m gonna hopefully explore more when I go to film school. Something that challenges society, or presents concepts we think are ridiculous but are completely plausible.
Horror movies are also a big inspiration for me. It definitely brings out the technical geek in me cuz of how dependent these films are on lighting and sound. [i did a comparative study on two horror films and got a 90 on it cuz it was basically just me nerding out the whole time lmao. if anyone’s interested in watching it i can post it👀]
as for motivational movies, 3 Idiots definitely gives me the motivation to pursue my dreams cuz that’s what the whole film is about. i recently watched Baahubali 2 and rn that’s my motivation as a filmmaker cuz man do i wanna make a movie like that one [except more my style]

south indian films rec
for the lovely @curryaboo since she wants to watch more non-bollywood films. rao, i hope you enjoy these films as much as i have! 💕💖💗
i’m not eloquent at all so excuse my horrible summaries, lol.
kadhalar dhinam (1999 - tamil): i’ve seen both the hindi & tamil versions of this film but i prefer the tamil one bc of the ending. anyway, it’s the story of a cute couple who meet online and fall in love, although there are a few complications. the soundtrack is beautiful (in both languages) as expected from A.R. Rahman. i love the simplicity and innocence of the main characters and also the nostalgia? omg. also, the last shot of kunal (the hero) sitting in a field of flowers is absolutely breathtaking.
arundhati (2009 - telugu): omg. this film is intense. anushka shetty plays a fierce queen battling the evil pasupathi (the wonderful sonu sood who is terrifying in this role). pasupathi is awful and has the power of dark magic on his side. arundhati is told she can only beat him in her next birth, and is reincarnated to complete her mission. anushka shetty is a national treasure. this film belongs to her. i saw it 10 years ago but i remember it scared me (in a good way).
baahubali: the beginning & baahubali 2: the conclusion (2015/2017 - telugu): baahubali 2 is my most favorite film in the universe so ofc i would recommend it. the first part is decent, but you need to watch it to understand the sheer brilliance of second one. the soundtrack & bgm slap, there are tons of little details and symbolism sprinkled throughout, loads of interesting characters, and devasena, whom i’d give my life for.
bommarillu (2006 - telugu): i think this was my first telugu film. the story focuses on siddhu (played by siddharth, whom i loveeee) a young man with very controlling father. however, he falls in love with the cute and spunky hasini, which goes against his father’s wishes. siddharth and genelia are just adorable. prakash raj is fantastic as the father, he and siddharth are great together. the songs are very cute too! here’s my review when i originally watched it.
darling (2010 - telugu): omg this film made me a bigger prabhas fan than i was. it was so cute and enjoyable. i loved the songs too!
konchem ishtam konchem kashtam (2009 - telugu): another siddharth film. he looks so cute in this one too. tamanna plays geeta, a girl who comes to the city to study. she falls in love with siddhu, but her father doesn’t approve of the relationship bc siddhu’s parents are divorced. here’s my original review.
magadheera (2009 - telugu): i love this one. it’s directed by ss rajamouli (the genius behind baahubali). indu and harsha meet by chance and fall for each other, but it turns out they were lovers in a past life. indu was a princess and harsha was a warrior whose clan served the royal family. they had a tragic ending but were reincarnated, as was the villain who separated them. i’m a sucker for historical films and i loved the main leads. as always, the songs were amazing!!
nuvvostanante nenoddantana (2005 - telugu): siddharth and trisha are just the cutest. i love this film so much, it’s a classic. the plot is similar to maine pyar kiya. siddharth is a rich boy and trisha is a simple girl from a village. they fall in love, but she and her brother are insulted by his snobby family. siddharth decides to prove his love for her by living/working on their farm, far away from his comfortable life. there’s also a hindi remake but it sucks ass. my review here.
yevadu (2014 - telugu): first of all, allu arjun and ram charan are gorgeous. this film is also kinda intense. arjun’s character loses his girlfriend and is almost killed, but he wakes up with a brand new face. then, he takes revenge on the person responsible. i can’t say too much without revealing the plot, but it’s a great action thriller. nee jathaga the best song!!
sarvam (2009 - tamil): arya and trisha are SO lovely together. this film is so sad though and it always makes me cry. arya and trisha are a young couple who fall in love and plan to get married, but she suddenly dies. her heart is transplanted into a young boy, whose father is being stalked by a man who wants revenge (bc the father was in an accident which killed the man’s family). the two stories tie into each other and the characters are connected. i don’t want to reveal how bc it’ll spoil things. siragugal is my favorite song ever and i love the entire soundtrack. this is one of my fav tamil films.
mirchi (2013 - telugu): i loveeeeeee this film!!!! it stars my parents, prabhas & anushka. the soundtrack is flawless!!! it’s about two warring families and their rivalry, and how one man sets out to reform them. idk but i enjoy masala films and even though there’s lots of violence, i love watching prabhas beat up bad guys >:)
bangalore days (2014 - malayalam): it’s a lovely film about 3 cousins who relocate to the city of bangalore and the challenges they face there. i liked all of the characters, their stories, and how the director wove them together effortlessly. everyone did a wonderful job and had great chemistry with each other, especially the three leads. it was refreshing to see a film like this (especially where a disabled love interest isn’t treated like a burden and does everything on her own despite the fact she was in a wheelchair).
urumi (2011 - malayalam): this film is very very very aesthetically pleasing. it’s directed by santosh sivan, the cinematographer for asoka (my fav hindi film ever). every frame looks like a painting. prithviraj (i love him) goes to kerala to sell his ancestral property, but finds out he is a descendant of kelu, a 16th century warrior. the story then shifts to the past. kelu wants to avenge the death of his father and kill vasco de gama. the chemistry between prithviraj and genelia is electrifying. the songs? FANTASTIC. the picturization of aaro nee aaro (idc if it’s plagiarized) reminds me a lot of roshni se. nithya menen is so so so cute as princess bala. vidya balan also has a small appearance but she’s smokin. the end makes me sob every single time. the soundtrack is also available in tamil & telugu and honestly, all 3 versions are PERFECTION.
inji iduppazhagi (2015 - tamil; size zero in telugu): anushka plays sweety, who is overweight but happy with herself. she rejects a marriage proposal from abhishek (the dreamy arya), but later becomes friends with him. however...after she finds out abhishek likes someone else, she joins a weight loss clinic. the place ends up being super shady and sweety (along with abhishek) decides to expose it. the first half started off really well. we meet sweety, who is confident despite what her mother and others say about her/her weight. but the second half fell flat and kind of dragged. even then, i still enjoyed it. anushka and arya are my favorites and pair well with each other. the songs were fun and enjoyable!! i lovelovelove kannalam. the ending song is also cute & cheeky :)
aval (2017 - tamil): there’s a hindi (the house next door) & telugu (gruham) version too, but my sister and i watched this film in tamil. bruh...it scared me but i really enjoyed it. the ambiance was just creepy and unsettling. in my opinion it was a well done horror film, which is rare bc nothing fazes me anymore. anywho, siddharth and andrea jeremiah look really good opposite each other and the entire cast did well. the girl who played jenny was awesome and i can’t believe this was her first film.
okay, i think this is good for now! i still have loads of films to watch and if y’all have any recommendations, PLEASE let me know! xoxo 💕

Number of fics: 153
Fic I spent the most time on: Hands. It’s not the fic that’s taken me longest to write, but in terms of time per words, I recall spending seven weeks on just the first drabble in order to get the prose right.
Fic I spent the least time on: IDK really, as I have several very short fics, but some of my smaller pieces took longer because it’s harder to write something in exactly 100 words.
Longest fic: Liminal (9791 words)
Shortest fic: kusvapna and bhoktavya, both 100 words. There might be some shorter fics buried in one of my drabble collections.
Most hits: Bigger Picture at 2306 hits, which isn’t surprising since it’s a spin-off of On the Edge of a Golden World, the most popular Tudors fic.
Most kudos: If You Love This Coast at 51 kudos, which makes sense since it’s my longest completed multichap.
Most comment threads: Again If You Love This Coast at 21 comment threads.
Most bookmarks: Liminal at 13 bookmarks (3 are private)
Total word count: 210,120 words
Favourite fic I wrote: Hands , If You Love This Coast , kujanani
Fic you want to rewrite/expand on: Liminal! I’ve had writer’s block for over a year on that fic now, but I definitely want to finish it one day.

I am back with Part 2 as promised earlier also because it was bugging me that i have left it incomplete the other day. The formatting is going to remain exactly the same way.. am just saving myself some extra text clutter , time and typing/copy paste this time round LOL.
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS COMPLETELY MY OPINION ABOUT THE FOLLOWING FEATURES. I feel the need to say this again because last time too i got a message but x,y,z film has x,y,z issues . I've said it before and i will say it again It is all a mixed Bag, Mixed Genres, Mixed reasons to suggest them right from the quality to acting to cinematography to story to critical acclaim to some just for PURE ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. I makes these lists because I feel these features deserve love and appreciation and because some made me feel Proud and some just for pure entertainment factor . Sidenote.. all titles are actual links where you can watch the features with subs and most of these are On prime video or netflix as well
K.G.F: Chapter 1 |Kannada| *Yash | alt Link A young man's promise to his dying mother leads him on a dangerous quest for power and wealth. If I may say so this One pretty much did the same thing in terms of opening doors to kannada film industry like Baahubali did to tollywood. This one followed the formula and dubbed it in multiple languages and gave it a wide release worldwide which raised eyeballs and got me curious too esp caz this one has a similar plot with the rise of a hero and the hunger for power just set in a completely different world and era. Now the Strength here is the screenplay and the non-linear pattern which keeps you engaged, with the growth of Rocky being shown steadily. The film is set between 1951 to 2018 and maintains a sense of curiosity as each character is unveiled. Yash is Phenomenal in it as rocky. I said it back then when i watched it and i will say it again He exuded the same kind of charisma say like a 70′s 80′s hero e.g Mr Bachchan from his blockbuster hits where he Played similar roles or salman khan in his typical masala characters basically Larger than life even if he has this arc of being a nobody to Rocky Bhai to Rocky the messiah. One word of Caution... This one gets a lil confusing in Kannada and with subs as there are too many characters and each one has his/her own agenda. i was confused at many parts but then i watched the hindi dubbed version and it made a world of difference. this one is fairly well dubbed too just like baahubali and what i mean is the voices didn’t sound robotic. Also i personally felt they went a little too far with the dukhi junta in prison in 2nd half and the violence as in it got very tedious but thank God that got over soon with the rise of this hero but it is worth watching and rest of it is really good, esp the last 15 mins WOWWWWW I cannot wait for part 2. Also my only sandalwood entry.
p.s all dubbed versions are available on prime including Hindi but i have linked the kannada originals
Fidaa | tel |*Varun Tej, Sai Pallavi (on Prime as well) Two young people embark on a winding and rocky path to love after meeting at a wedding. First of all supercute romantic, comedy/ family drama but what is refreshing about it is that it is Mainly from the Heroine’s POV and we have a VERY STRONG heroine who has her opinions, her say ,her own thought process and who is just so real. On the surface it looks like just another tollywood rom com but it’s Not. the music is really Good too and Sai Pallavi is A bundle of joy as Bhanu who calls the shots mostly here. Needless to say it is one of my Feel good films when i want to see something that makes me smile and gives me that comfort vibe i go to this one mostly.
Tumbbad|hin|*soham shah . A man and his son encounter a legendary demon while searching for hidden treasure in 19th-century India.
This one will come as a surprise to many as it is a hindi title but This one a rare gem that is Underrated af and i haven’t seen a finer hindi film in the last year because of how rich it’s content is and how thought provoking it is. The makers have invested years in getting to final result and it shows. this one gave me goosebumps, sacred me, left me mesmerized and make me go WHAT too. This is also on this list because you may not have heard about it at all just like myself who had no idea and jumped into it out of supreme boredom and was left in complete awwwwww and then did my reading and research. This one is a well thought out psychological horror film with strong visuals and metaphors and makes you question as it plays with your mind. Tumbbad is a perfect example of a film that creates a surreal illusion.
Imaikkaa Nodigal| Tam| Nayanthara,Atharvaa, Anurag kashyap: alt link A suave CBI officer (Nayanthara), is in search of a serial killer who kidnaps and kills the children of important people. The killer, however, is targeting his nemesis next. a revenge thriller with a strong Plot unpredictable and amazing twists. Each character has an important role and Nayan As a Bad ass cop who freaking sets the bar too high for female officers in desi films. THis one is one of the finest Thrillers in recent years which actually gives you thrills and Shocks and most of them one can’t guess. Let me be honest i gave upon this seeing anurag kasyap as the antagonist as i was unable to bear rudra and just his Ottness on top of that atharvaa’s lovestory as the parallel track mad me go ehhh as i initially clicked on it for nayan and there was so little of her in the beginning but then i gave it another try and couldn’t stop & was WOWEDDD by the Film and Nayan as anjali and yeah she is the MAIN CHARACTER so we get a lot of her later. She is at her FINEST as anjali. this is the film one wants to watch to get a high of sorts. WATCH IT FOR NAYAAAN FOR A STRONG FEMALE ACTOR/CHARACTER Taking the center stage and BEING FANTASTIC. This one is so just so entertaining in so many ways and the film one can watch on any given day despite knowing the plot twist. Beware Nayan and Vijay’s little arc is heartbreaking and i cried a lot tooooooooo... i was shattered at that part..... it is so hauntingly shot too. TW: Graphic violence In that scene
Mahanati|Tel|* Dulquer Salmaan, keerthy suresh, samantha, vijay D |alt link Biopic based on The life story of South Indian actress Savitri, who took the film industry by storm in the late '50s and '60s Mahanati is a film about the rise of the first female south Indian superstar – Savitri. Her story one of the most heart wrenching romantic tragedies of our times. This film tells a story of the Mahanati; her life, her journey to fame, and the dramatic downfall. Keerthy Suresh, elegantly brought Savitri to life, and Gemini Ganesan, played by Dulquer Salman, makes this film a true pleasure to watch. I had no idea who Savitri was i went into it because DQ and Again was BLOWN AWAY by How well made this film is and how it is made with so much sensitivity and rawness. it keeps the real journey part intact as in doesn’t sugarcoats or overly glamorizes things to show Savitri as some mahaan hasti. They make this film the Grand celebration of her life with all her struggles and tragedies and makes you connect with her in a very real manner and All this Makes this film so much more than a film. this one becomes that Larger than life Grand,SHE IS A HERO More because she truly is rather than OH because she had this sob story IYKWIM like hindi Biopics do. They have made savitri Grand By her resilience by her courage by her will power and invested in the character and plot rather than all taam jhaam. This one is By far the best Biopic i’ve seen from desi industries and Not One and i mean it NOT one Hindi biopic even comes close to this one in terms of presentation. Keerthy suresh is a joy to watch as savitri. i am not gonna lie i broke down at few points and that is because of her acting and laughed too i connected so strongly to an actress’s story (who i had no idea about as in savitri i had 0 knowledge about savitri or in general about south industries retro eras ) only because of keerthy’s presentation. Also dulquer is a Joy as gemini ganeshan. he really slipped into it with ease and lived upto the part. they have achieved finesse in showcasing a life story and recreating old songs from black & white era. If nothing else on this list watch this and imaikaa nodigal and you won’t regret it
Rangasthalam |tel| *Ramcharan, Samantha : Chitti Babu, a hearing impaired boat skipper, becomes caught in the middle of a political feud in the village of Rangasthalam. Watch this one for Ram charan’s performance He is a delight to watch as chitti babua and this easily is his Best WORK till date this character have so much to play with and He ACES IT . The strong and intriguing story line is also a Plus . The film is not just set in the 80s; it also picks a story template from that era and narrates the tale in a refreshingly raw manner but the characters are so well fleshed out they don’t look caricatures by any means. the songs are grand and super fun to watch too.
Maari 2 |tam|* dhanush, sai pallavi : Maari, a gangster with a heart of gold, tangles with a new nemesis who is determined to bring about his downfall. First things first this one is mileas ahead of the previous version in everything. A much stronger film in every way. Otherwise it is a pure masala entertainer with all the masala elements and dhanush and sai make a BOMB pair and their lil story is ahh sooo full of feelz.
Sudani from Nigeria |Mal|* soubin shahir: When a soccer club manager brings one of his injured foreign players home to recuperate, they form an unlikely bond despite their cultural differences.. A refreshing sports drama that touches your heart. explores the cultural differences so beautifully. the characters stay with you much longer after the film is over. The film effortlessly explores iissues in the neighborhood and much bigger political issues too. overall SImply an underrated film and one should watch it for it’s warmth and sincerity.
Koode|Mal|*prithviraj, nazriya nazim, paravthy A family tragedy causes a young man to reflect on his childhood and reassess his future.Anjali Menon and that brilliant cast should eb your reason to watch. i don’t think i need to say another word to convince you but still anyway. it takes you on and emotional roller coaster ride. it is a flawless film with an extraordinary cast. also Naz is as charming as ever in her comeback film. there are very few films who actually jump into exploring the bond between a brother and sister and this one aces it with reflecting upon various issues and things they had to go throughasa family as well as their individual struggles. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Also Paro and prithvi yeah. .. simply OUTSTANDING film
Varathan |mal|* fahadh faasil,Aishwariya lekshmi: After losing his job, Abin and his wife, Priya, move from Dubai to Priya's family estate in Kerala, but peace eludes the couple. It takes it’s time in the first half but in second it comes all guns blazing and turns into a worth watching survival thriller. it does makes one uneasy at times with the contsant stalker guys lurking around but it is all worth the wait at the end. trust me..
Chekka Chivantha Vaanam |tam| *vijay sethupathi, arinswami, jyothika, simbu; An attempt is made on the life of a reigning don, and it sets in motion a succession battle between his three sons. In other words Godfather with Mani ratnam twists A delicious film to devour it si an out and out maniratnam film with massy fan moments and smart filmmaking techniques. watch it for performances esp. i wish jyo had more to do but she is good at what she does in her supporting role. . this one is a true blue multi starrer ,family drama.
Merku Thodarchi Malai |tam| Antony, Gayatri Krishnan, Abu Valayamkulam : it revolves around the life and times of a group of people living along the foothills of the Western Ghats. basically we travel along with Rangu ( teh pratagonist) who is a daily wage worker and his struggles in bringing that load upto the city and his one dream to own a piece of land someday. this oen is almost like a documentary. this makes you thank and count your blessings. feel every bit of pain and effort and struggle that these daily wage workers have to go through in their daily lives. i broke down at so many points and i just wanted to do something to help makes lives a bit easier. IDK it hit me so hard at places and made me thankful for all the things i have.
Mayanaadhi |Mal|*tovino thomas, aishwariya lekshmi : A mule driver in a gang and an aspiring actress try to navigate their way through an unexpected romance. Mayaanadhi is a beautiful tale of love. The emotions it conveys needs to be experienced and the movie gives us a taste of life. Aashiq Abu really knocked it out of the park once again with this one. this one. It is a simple enough tale with a plot that is real to life and familiar. It is perhaps the most Soulful Romantic film i’ve seen in last year or so.
Takeoff|Mal|*parvathy, fahadh : A young Muslim woman (Parvathy) struggles to find love and happiness in midst of the ongoing civil war in Iraq. It an ode to the Indian spirit. This is a riveting survival saga, made by a team gifted with acute political and social awareness. It is, in one word, stunning. Paro Simply have slayed. A bit like airlift as in the basic setting and premise is similar but poles apart. it is one hell of a film( in a good way) PARO,PARO,PARO. this is all i have to say to explain the brilliance of it.
and with that this comes to an end.. again please feel free to share your thoughts and opinions with me i would love to see you guys actually taking the use of this list and sharing your thoughts. Bye and Have a Wonderful Summer binge watching these hehe. i hope you love them as much as i do. looking forward to your thoughts
