Woke: Karlee and Hoffman read books in the library together because:
A) Everyone knows if you talk to Hoffman he will never stop talking. This means survivors stay away from Hoffman.
B) Karlee recognizes this and stays near Hoffman so no one will bother her. Hoffman is quiet when he reads so Karlee can tolerate him.
C) Hoffman, who doesn't realize any of this, calls it their mini book club and will sometimes talk Shakespeare. Karlee begrudgingly accepts this to keep her "anti-socialization shield". (The shield is not very effective against Holly, who loves nothing more to bother Hoffman and Karlee simultaneously.)
yknow as much as I gave seething thoughts on the mechanics and yes story of Back4Blood I really think that, in order to not just satisfy me but to really make it better than it was and yeah actually is at this point, print out graphic novels detailing the things that aren't spoken or said in the game.
Like...let that be the support of WHY the characters are why they are in a terrible place and why they have to deal with each other while also learning to be kind to one another in the hell that is the ridden infested lands they live in.
And yeah if Turtle Rock were to really make this a complete spiritual successor, leave hints and just enough of small context and connection to the Left4Dead series. Place Back4Blood like...5 to 10 years in the future of the hell that happened.
And yeah go into the origin stories of the 12 (or is it 11 I forgot) characters. Not too deep tho, just about 5 pages or so of understanding. Yes even for the asshole, Hoffman.
But more importantly go into small vignettes and chapters of stuff outside of missions or maybe during the 'boring' stuff, like patrols, or go into the different settlements and how they act with one another and how the main characters react to their responses or actions. Also like, it'd be really interesting to see the solo or two person unit runs where they failed but lived, and get into just...like...things within that universe.
I say all of this because, not only is the story lacking a lot of depth that L4D, it STILL promise to be something larger than L4D and even be it's own entity as an IP. Because mechanically it was such a let down, and probably still will be, then just, flesh out the story more.
I admit, they did do that in the 3rd DLC, but really...it could be more and yeah, better.
And again, I had a rough time with it because of it's potential to be more than that. And so...why not put the story into a different medium? And like...yeah Gears of War did it and it was good as a game in and of itself, but I really feel like Back4Blood as a whole IP can really be something in the form of a graphic novel and just let the game be a mixed thing in people's minds but say that yeah the comics did expand and make the game worth playing.
evangelo: <3 physical touch <3 evangelo will not keep his hands to himself. he’s either holding your hand, giving you a hug, playing with your hair, literally anything that involves consensually touching he’s just in love with holding you. will absolutely melt if you play with his hair too.
walker: i feel like acts of service would be his. any chance to ease any weight off him will be a great help; bringing him some food or taking over his fort hope work will help in the long run. tending to his wound on the field is a great way to get his love.
holly: quality time! quality time 1000% holly just loves spending time with others (mainly bc she just does not want to be alone) going on ridden slaying dates or playing some card games at the library is just an absolute great time for her.
mom: mom's a tough cookie for me tbh. there's not much info on her love for people besides her son, who she adored a lot. quality time seems like a major one because she would rather spend time with others than be alone.
doc: receiving gifts, i mean c’mon, she loves getting candy from others and small little trinkets. she happily puts her things either in the makeshift fort hope clinic or her tent.
hoffman: words of affirmation definitely. baby has been verbally bullied all his life and especially now that he's a total conspiracy theorist a lot of ppl think he's weird. talking to him about his interests and let him talk even tho you probably don't agree with it lol.
jim: it’s easy to say he’s a quality time type of guy, he loves spending time with people. whether it’s going fishing or hunting, he’s down to spend time with you. over time once a bond is formed, he will be open to physical touch and it feels like hugging a giant bear. <3
karlee: acts of service when you’re friends, and physical touch when you guys are super super close. and you have to be incredibly close for her to get comfortable with physical touch. giving her some food and letting her get some rest when out on missions will get her to open up.
heng: quality time!! during his punk and restaurant days, he loved spending time with others, getting to know them. now that he’s in fort hope when he’s not out doing missions, he’s in the kitchen making delicious recipes with the food they have in stock. which usually entails tomatoes and lettuce lol.
sharice: it’s hard to think bc she fits into all of these tbh! except receiving gifts, she doesn’t know what to do with them lol. she’s definitely a people person since she loved her crew very much before they passed and she cares for the current cleaners very much. sharice would be the type of person who loves holding your hand or giving out hugs every once in a while.
