- santos and his twin sister were born to superstars camille whitney (charlize theron cc) and darrell hathaway (pharrell cc). immediately they were immersed into this world of fame and money due to their parents' accolades. the media truly had a field day with their mom because although mr. hathaway was wicked talented, he was also known for being a serial cheater, with that being said the twins have lots of half siblings. although mr. hathaway had his ways, him and the misses make 20 years of a somewhat happy marriage this year. (his dad is the main reason he may or may not ask people to sign ndas lmao)

- santos showed musical interests at an early age, picking up the trumpet, guitar, piano, and cello all before his 8th. tw: childhood illness everything took a turn when him and his sister both caught a serious case of bacterial meningitis. they were both hospitalized– but as his sister got better, santos’ condition began to deteriorate. he temporarily lost hearing in both of his ears during his month and a half stay. as the medicine took its course, santos regained full hearing in his right ear, but was only able to regain 20% in his left. they fit him for a hearing aid and gave his parents pamphlets how to ‘cope’ with a child that is ‘deaf’. end of tw! santos is fluent in ASL!! his parents were patient with him as he slowly got back to being a child, and they were even more patient when it came to reintroducing music to him– santos being santos was already itching to get back to play his music, it was hard but there was no doubt in his little 8 year old mind that he wouldn’t be successful!

- over the course of the next seventeen years of his life santos graduates from berklee college of music, is able to do some solo projects as well as collaborate with many artists, allowing him to be able to have a total of 8 grammys under his belt for his music production stylings. he can be very arrogant when it comes to his music because he knows that he’s good at what he does. overall he’s a pretty quiet person, only talking to you if he really needs to (small talk could probably kill him), but when he speaks he’s very well spoken and he leaves with just enough to want more?? he is a little oddball, but we luv him <3

BACKGROUND.

ok so daeseong was born in daegu but moved to los angeles at the age of 3, so he was americanised a LOT,, for the longest time, he spoke english better than korean and it was like that until he returned permanently to korea at the age of 14

they were always back and forth between the two over the years, but he still spent the majority of time in the states

they originally moved to los angeles because of his father’s job – he was a producer for a big network and he got an opportunity in america so they took off !! the network got shut down years and years later and daeseong’s dad was like LOL YEET and moved the fam back to korea !!

baby daeseong was v much full of energy and his parents tried putting him in a number of things – singing wasn’t for him, dancing was alright, but he still couldn’t remember the moves good enough, and instruments just weren’t his thing either – he did play piano, but that was thanks to years and years of practice. but anything else thrown his way wasn’t his thing.

his parents put him into american football to begin with,, and they learned quick enough that dae was also a pretty angry kid so he wasn’t afraid to run hEAD FIRST INTO PEOPLE

and so that’s the thing that got him put into boxing and ofc he thrived there,, he was taught so much and told to calm himself down,, it wasn’t aLL about fighting and he absolutely fell in love with it !! remember i mentioned he was alright at dancing???? that just helped him with his footwork in fighting

talking about falling in love with things, he fell in love with jinae and rory pretty quickly when he met the pair – they always seemed to make him smile, and as a quiet, aggressive kid, it definitely helped him a lot.

so like i said before he returned to korea at 14

he joined another gym there and life took off for lil dae !!! by that point he had been boxing for eight years, and those eight years led up to him attending and fighting in the 2008 beijing olympics – he didn’t win a medal, but he did do well enough where everyone was talking about him and would be keeping their eye on him for the next four years after that to see if he would be competing again

and he did !! he competed in the london 2012 olympics and thats when he brought a medal home for south korea in boxing at the age of 19 !!! he placed second after losing out to the united states,,, but ofc he was a lil happy about them winning bc he considers there a second home

because of the success, he was invited on a few variety shows and created an impression there too – granted that was back in 2012-2013, but he’s not interested in all of that now.. he prefers to let his work speak for himself

after his win, he opened up his own boxing gym so he could start teaching younger people, and those who were less fortunate so they could learn how to properly fight and fight for a sport, rather than anything else. it’s something he’s very proud of, and a place that has grown and grown through the years since late 2013-early 2014

ofc he competed in the 2016 olympics in rio and came home with a bronze medal,,, which BUMMED HIM TF OUT but he still took it as an honour – after that, he just had a few title fights here and there but he did absolutely nothing in 2017 concerning boxing, which had people questioning what was happening with daeseong

he decided to enlist quietly to the military in may 2017 and served with the marines for 21 months. he’ll easily tell anyone that it’s the hardest thing he’s ever done, more so than fighting.

he got out in february of 2019 and instantly jumped back into his gym and into training again

he’s waiting for the right time to schedule a fight,, he knows he isn’t up to his standard that he was once at but he does want to get back into the ring for a legit fight

and it’s something a lot of people are waiting for since his return from the military

even more so, he wants that gold medal from the olympics before its too late,,, but gearing up for 2020 seems TOO SOON and waiting until 2024 is too long so he’s v v v v conflicted

he’s a real sweetheart despite doing something scary lol wants nothing but the best for people, always there to lend a hand, always there to help absolutely anyone around him

INTERVIEW.

1. what do you do for a living?? e.g. student, full time work, part time, etc.

“i’m a professional boxer, who has been fighting for over ten years, representing south korea.”

2. how and where do you see yourself being in 5 years?? e.g. career wise, financially, relationship and connections wise.

“i’d love to win another few titles.. i haven’t had much experience fighting in the heavyweight class considering i finished serving for my country about five months ago. i want to get back into it, so hopefully that’ll happen for me in the next five years. i want to continue with charity work, with helping less fortunate kids get into boxing – it’s not an aggressive sport, it’s more about discipline. and it’ll keep kids busy rather than getting into other trouble. relationship-wise? it’s early days and we haven’t spoken about it.. but i’d love to settle down with my girlfriend, start a family… yeah.”

3. where do you fall on daegu’s societal hierarchy spectrum?? e.g. are you one of the upper class wealthy types or the lower class ‘underground’ type and how has this affected your attitude towards the hierarchy of the town??

“i would be upper-class, but considering i put in a lot of finance into teaching and at my gym, i’m more of a middle class – which i’m completely fine with. everyone should be equal in my opinion and those who are the higher upper class, the elites, need to help those in need.”

4. how do you feel about where you personally fit in the social hierarchy of the town and what are your intentions because of this?? e.g. do you aim to create a more equal, modern system for all citizens or are you quite happy with how the situation stands between the wealthy and the lesser off??

“i’d love to create a more equal society for everyone. everyone should be treated the exact same, and to a standard that everyone can benefit from, no matter what. as much as i want it to happen, i doubt it will.. which is unfortunate. it’s easy to respect and love those no matter what their gender, age, experience, way of life.. everyone needs to help out.”

5. what are your goals and aspirations for the future??

“more fighting, more helping society and the future of daegu – all these kids who need the help, be happy and keep loving those who care and love me.”

  That's Right!, the recording debut of trumpeter Brad Goode's quintet featuring tenor titan Ernie Watts, documents the virtuosity and versatility of one of the tightest working bands on the contemporary jazz scene. Set for October 19 release by Origin Records, the album is a powerful showcase for Goode's ideal quintet as well as the soloing chops and writing skills of each of its members.

  Watts and Goode first shared the front line in a concert at the University of Colorado in Boulder, where the trumpeter is an associate professor of jazz studies, in the early 2010s. "It was just one of those things," Goode recalls. "We played together for a little while, and then we looked at each other and said, 'Hey, you know what? This is good!' There's something that happens when the two of us start playing, and we've been making efforts to do what we can together ever since."

  Also featured on the new CD are Canadian pianist Adrean Farrugia and Windy City veteran bassist Kelly Sill, both of whom have been playing with Goode since 2005. The unit's newest member, drummer Adam Nussbaum, joined in 2017. "I tell my students this: If you want to make the biggest change to the sound of your group, change the drummer," says Goode.

  That's Right! contains three originals by Goode, one by each of the quintet's other members, and the standards "Blues in the Night" and "I Want to Talk About You." The final track, "Jug Ain't Gone," is a tribute to Gene "Jug" Ammons by the late Chicago jazz giant Von Freeman, Jug's high school classmate and one of Goode's mentors. It's a hard-swinging blues that's become something of a theme song for Goode. "Von and I used to play it at every gig but he only recorded it once," he explains. "I run a jam session with students every Monday night, and I make that the closing tune. It's just my way of keeping Von's tradition of the jam session alive -- and keeping Von's memory alive."

  Born in 1963 in Chicago, Brad Goode took up the violin at age four, switched to guitar at eight and trumpet at 10. At 15, having moved to East Lansing, Michigan, he began learning the bass. Even when he decided to pursue music as a career, he couldn't settle on one instrument: He earned his B.M. in classical trumpet at the University of Kentucky, and an M.M. in classical bass at Chicago's DePaul University.

  Goode's early career was a period of extended apprenticeship, as he performed with the bands of jazz legends Von Freeman, Eddie Harris, Ira Sullivan, Jack DeJohnette, and Curtis Fuller. He led the house band at the Green Mill in Chicago from 1986 until 1997, when he left Chicago to pursue college teaching. Since then, his musical career has been expansive. He works often in the areas of world music, experimental harmony, and fusion. He is in high demand as a lead trumpeter, traveling widely to perform and record with big bands and orchestras, and is recognized as a master teacher of brass technique. He currently tours as the featured soloist with West African drummer Paa Kow's Afro Fusion Orchestra.

  In 1997, Goode joined the faculty at the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. In 2004 he accepted a position in Boulder, Colorado, and the following year formed a new working band with Kelly Sill, whom he'd known since the mid-1980s. They were joined by pianistAdrean Farrugia, whom Goode had met at a jam session, and drummer Anthony Lee, one of his Cincinnati students who lived in New York.

  The quartet stayed together for a decade, becoming a quintet with the addition of Watts in 2015. Lee's 2017 departure brought in Nussbaum on drums. Goode flew the band in to perform at the Jazz Education Network (JEN) conference in Dallas in January 2018. "I had them all there, and I thought we should do a recording," he says. "After the concert we spent two days at a studio in Dallas."

  While That's Right! is his 18th album as a leader, Goode doesn't see it that way. "I think of this as a debut album by a new band," he says. "I feel this is a pretty special act. When Ernie and I do this together, people kind of freak out. So this album is a way to get that across to people who haven't seen it live yet -- that it's gonna be exciting." The quintet plans a series of dates in Spring and Summer 2019.
