So today has been the worst day I've had in recent memory.

Schools are self-contained ecosystems whose effect echoes out till adulthood. They're unfortunately not centres of education or temples of knowledge anymore. We grew up romanticising the idea so much, we forgot in our privilege the 'schools' that were and are operating on bare minimum; these are places that run on doctrines, common communities and shared oppression.

The school where I go to teach has given me enough lessons to last the next 5 years. The contribution goes beyond the impertinence of kids. You can still pry that out of them and teach them respect. But what about adults? What about perpetrators of abuse that have undergone subtle abuse all their formative years? How do you excuse their ignorance, their perpetration, their blatant disregard for basic human courtesy especially when they're referred to as teachers?

What nobility lies in a profession where on paper, you're educating us in philosophy, psychology, gender issues, policies, rights and administration, but on the ground, your damn cranium is dusted in 20th century? Miss me with the bullshit, darling. You trained us to become educators and pedagogues, to challenge the status quo and serve democracy to children who deserve it the most. Yet you don the drapes of hypocrisy and sip tea like there's no tomorrow.

I'm witnessing religious intolerance, little girls being indoctrinated to hate a certain minority in their community, people misusing power, and sheer impertinence across the whole school. Nobody speaks to us trainees politely. We're being ordered around, overworked (5/9 periods, acceptable. 7/9 periods is fucking torture). People at the university are unwilling to listen to my complaints by saying this is standard and happening in all schools that trainees have been sent to.

India is a ripe country for teaching but not for B.Ed. holders. Especially not for B.Ed. pursuers. I'm disappointed, I'm disgusted, and I'm tired. I'm afraid that these 2 whole months I've to spend here will be marked by bad, irreparable patches of repeated stress and worse coping mechanisms.
