viii. are you starting a freshman babysitting service? (wc 1.5k)

you bite your lip as you survey the downstairs floor of the NCT frat house. from your position on the fifth step of the staircase (you may have bypassed the crudely drawn ‘OUT OF BOUNDS - GO FUCK SOMEWHERE ELSE’ sign, but you figure you can get away with it as NCT’s favourite menace), you can see most of the lower floor. the kitchen is in the far right corner, double doors wide open to display the multitude of students hanging around the island covered in an assortment of beverages and stereotypical red solo cups. in the middle sits a huge plastic bowl full of doyoung’s infamous blackout punch. it’s an alarming orange colour and tastes dangerously like fruit juice instead of any of the numerous types of alcohol that are mixed in. jaemin drank so much one party last year he had to buy yeri coffee for two weeks to make up for the dress incident, which he still doesn’t even remember happening. he passed out in jeno’s lap five minutes later, hence the name. currently, you can see wooyoung and changbin yelling excitedly at san, before said soccer player downs an entire cup of the stuff and then goes back in for another.

your nose wrinkles, and you turn your gaze to the back doors to the left of the kitchen. a few people are sitting on the various pieces of garden furniture strewn out on the deck, but you can’t see much further and the only person you recognise out there is amy. unfortunately, she isn’t what you’re after right now. you bypass the small queue of girls waiting to get into the downstairs bathroom and look over the biggest space of the house, the living room. all of the non-seating furniture has been taken away and stored safely in the basement like usual, leaving the two huge sofas and whatever the guys could find for people to could sit on. it’s mostly beanbags and a couple camping chairs, though you’re pretty sure that’s yuta’s desk chair he’s currently lounging in, chatting animatedly to sicheng and yangyang. a potential candidate. the rest of the floor space is taken up by people dancing along to the music booming throughout the house (currently wow by btob), and you see a lot of familiar faces strewn throughout the throng of students. sadly, none that jump out at you, other than maybe yeonjun, but he seems a little preoccupied with soobin, wooyoung’s unofficial fifth roommate.

and directly below you, pushed up against the staircase, is the entire reason you’re scanning the house so meticulously: the beer pong table. your master plan to get jaehyun inebriated enough to agree to playing shinee on night night wednesday all relies on your ability to secure a partner skilled enough to give the reigning NCT beer pong champion a half-decent challenge. at the moment, ryujin and yeji are wiping the floor with felix and hyunjin, who is dramatically fake crying while downing yet another cup. eyes flitting back to the corner of the room where yuta is still engaged in conversation, you’re about to descend the stairs and proposition him when something catches your attention.

perched on the arm of the sofa on the right side of the living room is a boy with chocolate brown hair looking around nervously and wringing his hands in his lap. normally, you wouldn’t think twice about a stranger presumably looking for a friend at a frat party, but something about this boy’s demeanour is screaming that he’s super uncomfortable and in need of help. you make your way down through the room, waving at yuta, sicheng and yangyang as you go, coming to a stop in front of the boy, who, upon closer inspection, is definitely younger yet almost certainly at least six inches taller than you.

“hi!” you greet him over the music, feeling the bass of b.a.p’s hurricane in your entire body. “are you okay? you look a little lost… or like you’ve lost someone.”

“hey, uh.” his voice is a lot deeper than you expected. “both, i guess?” he brings a hand up to rub at his neck nervously. “i came in with my friend, but he went to get drinks like twenty minutes ago. now i can’t see him anywhere, and there are so many people here, and i only know like maybe five of them?”

“well he can’t have gone too far, i can help you look if you want? i’m y/n.” you smile. “even if we can’t find your friend, maybe one of the other four will show up so you’re not on your own.”

“yes please.” the earnest look on his face is so endearing you have to stop yourself pinching his cheeks. “honestly, we were invited at the rush event last week, but i dunno if frat life is for me anymore.”

“it’s not all like this.” you laugh, weaving your way through the crowd. “yeah, parties are what people tend to think of when they think frats, but that’s only a small part of it and they’re not compulsory. there’s so many other fun and less choatic events that get put on, and they’re all really great guys here.”

you’ve managed to make your way to the back doors, and the tall freshman holds the door open for you as you step out into the cool night air. maybe johnny was right and your outfit was lacking a few layers for the frigid january weather, but you’d never give him the satisfaction of letting him know. it’s not as busy out here, and while there’s a buzz of conversation emitting from the backyard, it’s nowhere near as loud as inside.

“oh!” your new companion exclaims. “there’s mark.” you follow his line of sight to see said recruitment chair leaning up against the wall with a drink in his hand. he’s laughing along with something one of the people in the small group surrounding him has said, and you spot a few familiar faces among them.

“you know mark? oh, he must’ve been at the rush event.”

“yeah, it was him and the frat president who invited us, but i can’t remember his name.” the boy frowns, following as you lead the way over to them.

“taeyong.” you supply, watching as he nods in recognition. “i haven’t seen him around tonight actually, but like you said there are a lot of people here.”

“y/n!” jeno is the first to notice your presence. you easily accept the hug he offers and turn to greet the other boys.

“hey guys, so this is-“ you cut yourself off with a frown, realising you’d never actually asked the freshman what his name was. oops.

“jisung!”

“chenle!” jisung moves to stand next to who you presume is his missing friend with a huge grin.

“this is jisung.” you laugh. “i met him inside looking a little lost and offered to help him find his friend, but seems like you beat me to it.”

“hey, man!” mark grins at jisung. “we bumped into chenle in the kitchen and got to talking, sorry if we worried you.”

“hi.” a voice to your left diverts your attention from the conversation in front of you. you turn and come face to face with donghyuck and damn, the picture ten posted earlier in the evening really didn’t do him justice. up close, you can see every mole that dots his pretty face and you want to trace your fingertips between them to map them out like a constellation.

“hey.” you breathe, suddenly finding it more difficult to do so. being in this close proximity to him is not something you’ve experienced yet, and it’s seemingly bad for your health.

“are you starting a freshman babysitting service?” he teases, little smirk turning up the corner of his lips.

“yeah, of course.” you scoff, leaning back to give yourself some space to collect your thoughts. “he just looked really lost and i wanted to make sure he was okay. i was actually on my way to find a beer pong parter to hopefully dethrone jaehyun.”

“either you’re very confident in your own beer pong skills or you’re delusional.” donghyuck looks very unimpressed by your response. “he’s been undefeated for as long as we’ve been students here, probably longer.”

“since the end of year party the year before, actually.” you inform him, shrugging. “and maybe ‘dethrone’ is a little ambitious, i just need someone good enough to not get swept without making him down a few.”

“why?”

“well… i have a plan that may or may not involve getting him drunk enough to agree to something and then recording it as evidence so he can’t say no afterwards.” you watch as what can only be described as an evil, gleeful smile spreads across donghyuck’s face.

“i’m in.”

📸 What The Kpop: WTK REVIEW: B.A.P’s Daehyun Thrills Fans At Skyview High K-pop Event In NYC

After attending The Shops at Skyview K-Fun event with B.A.P‘s Moon Jongup last year, WTK was invited to cover this year’s event! Due to the popularity of the first program, this year’s run is extended from four weeks to six weeks.

A New Student Has Arrived

Perfectly aligned with the theme, the special guest for the K-pop day was referred to as the “student ambassador.” This year, it was B.A.P’s Jung Daehyun, Moon Jongup’s fellow group member and now fellow label-mate once more.

Although the event was scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., eager fans arrived early in the morning to be at the front of the line. Many brought B.A.P Matoki light sticks as part of the BABY fandom and Jung Daehyun’s solo artist fan light sticks as part of the DABY fandom. There is also a school books and supply drive that will run until August to help children in need.

A few fans worked together to provide banners for the fan meeting and set up digital ads in Times Square and the mall. They also set up a table where fans could write short messages on a large paper banner to be given to Daehyun later.

Before Class Started

In the hall, fans waited for the event to start while enjoying the fitting theme which included things like a school store and tiny market. People could learn more about items and purchase certain Korean products. The cute vendor carts featured food, snacks, skincare products, drinks, and Korean healthcare and wellness goods.

At the end of the row, there was a claw machine with cute Korean character plushies and small bags of Korean snacks inside. Additionally, there was also a table for people interested in learning more about Korea and potentially traveling there.

Before the event, The Shops at Skyview held a media conference that was also live-streamed on Instagram for fans to join in real time. The two hosts, Wesley Sin and Haye Lee, sat with Daehyun at a table for the press conference to answer questions. Haye Lee was also Daehyun’s translator for the event.

Daehyun introduced himself in English with a cute, “Nice to meet you. I’m Daehyun.” Reflecting on being back in New York since 2018, he shared feelings of nostalgia and happiness to meet his fans again, even though he felt a little nervous without his fellow members.

Q&A with Skyview High Student Ambassador Jung Daehyun

About the event, Daehyun expressed his excitement to perform his solo songs, engage with fans, and perform a special B.A.P dance medley.

When asked about wellness advice, the fit K-pop star emphasized the importance of consistency, managing your diet, and enjoying everything in moderation.

As Daehyun is experienced in performing both as a singer and as a musical actor, he gave his tips on how to approach both. For singing, he said that emotional delivery is most important. For performing in musicals, he said the way of delivering the lyrics, the musical style of singing, and acting are huge parts.

Daehyun was also asked what the word BABY/DABY means to him. He said it’s very hard to sum up in one word. Because the memories of BABYz and B.A.P together are so meaningful to him, he said he will focus on this time as B.A.P prepares for their comeback this year. He being a member of B.A.P is a huge part of his identity and he considers it the most important and special aspect in his life.

He finished up the questions from the reporters by saying that he is looking forward to this year as B.A.P is coming back. He said he and the members have just started the project, but the planning has been in the works for a very long time. He said it is a project made without regrets and he hopes that everyone looks forward to it. His solo activities will continue after that, which he is also preparing for accordingly. He stated that appreciates all the support and thanked everyone, especially his fans.

Time for Class

With the media conference over, Daehyun was shuffled away to get ready for his performance. Reporters were led back downstairs to the venue and fans were finally let into the hall. Some event attendees, who by purchasing $200 worth of merchandise at The Shops at Skyview, qualified for a VIP ticket and were let in first. For the other sections in the back, it was free to attend. However, fans had to snag a registration ticket pretty quickly.

After a couple of their dance performances, Daehyun was called on stage to the elation and screaming of the fans. Several of the dancers from AKF performed with Daehyun as his backup dancers. All of the performers looked great dressed up in the school uniform-themed attire.

Subjects for Summer Classes

The show was scheduled for Daehyun to perform throughout sections that were sneak peeks of what the other days in the “summer school” planned to showcase.

K-Fashion: Five finalists from the VIP section modeled their best school-themed outfits. Daehyun and the judges chose a winner. The winning fan then participated in a romantic school-themed K-drama skit with Daehyun on stage.

Daehyun made what he said was his first samgak kimbap with Instructor Debbie. While Daehyun was making his kimbap, Wesley asked him who he thought was the best cook among the B.A.P members. Daehyun got distracted whike making the snack and said, “Uh… me?”

Using Wesley’s iPad to choose who would get to taste his kimbap, Daehyun randomly selected a fan, but Wesley looked at it and said, “Ok, we selected the same person! Who is that lucky?” So, Daehyun had to pick someone else as the crowd laughed.

After that, Instructor Debbie helped Daehyun make a special cocktail using a tanghulu treat as a garnish. Tanghulu is a traditional Chinese snack of skewered fruits, such as grapes or strawberries, that are coated in crystalized sugar. Before making the cocktail, Daehyun was asked if he preferred soju or makgeolli. He firmly said that he likes makgeolli.

After the beautiful cocktail was created and displayed to the audience, it was time for Daehyun to select a lucky fan from the host’s iPad to drink the cocktail he made.

A Heartfelt Finale and a Birthday Wish

Finishing up the event, Daehyun sang “With You,” which is a beautiful song from B.A.P to their fans, BABYz. It’s always wonderful to hear a B.A.P member sing this song. However, this time felt different, more hopeful and not as sad now that B.A.P is finally coming back!

B.A.P is Back

What’s next for Daehyun? Well, with the release of the “Man on the Moon” documentary, everyone knows now— it’s the comeback of B.A.P! After a break of six years and many long hours planning for the next step, B.A.P has returned and will release what they say might be their final album. Only time will tell.

In addition, Daehyun continues ahead as a solo artist, musical star, actor, and more! We hope that he will be able to return to the U.S. soon and also meet many more of his international fans as well.

#Chapter 1 : Busan Boy dreaming of Seoul

Jaehan fell in love with singing when he was teenager. When he was 2nd year of middle school, he showed his musical talent when he won the prize in a song contest recommended by his music teacher. Jaehan who grows interest and interest in music, entered high school, formed a band, and became active as a vocalist.

"I thought everything will be worked out because people around me said "You're doing great". I've been preparing for Practical Music Department since my 1st year in high school. But every time I auditioned, I run out of it, so I developed audition anxiety"

Jaehan's goal is to go to Seoul. It's not the university he wants, but he majored in "Music Production" in a university in Seoul. It was at this time that he began to learn about all aspects of production, including composition and MIDI.

"After coming to Seoul, I felt like "It's still a long way off", There are many people around who are doing well. I also lacked confidence in my music. I thought I would achieve my dream if I came to Seoul, but it wasn't.”

#Chapter 2 : Idol, What is that?

He came back to Busan after his life in Seoul. Jaehan met his first group "One Voices". While promoting as One Voices, which started as talented rookie duo, He met Daehyun of B.A.P. Jaehan said that even back then, people would ask, "What is an idol?"

"I thought I was far from being an idol. I never thought I would be an idol, and I didn't like listening to idol music. I met Daehyun hyung and learned about idol life, I started to dance more and more, prepare for an idol cover stage. I find it really fun"

Musical skill are basic, and his interest increases. Jaehan was offered to become an idol trainee. At the age of 22, It wasn't easy to start over, but Jaehan bravely took the challenge.

Of course, the reality was different from what was expected. He thought he would debut right away, but debuting was a long way off in a company that was on the verge of closing. Instead he got an opportunity to participate to "Produce 101" season 2. In a word, Jaehan "Saw a light"

#Chapter 3 : If only I could debut

As an MMO trainee who produced Wanna One's Kang Daniel and Yoon Ji-sung, Jaehan left a unique presence in "Produce 2" with a performance that exceeded expectations. After waiting for his debut as a trainee for more than a year, the opportunity to debut came to him.

It was a love call from Spectrum company, telling his official debut. "I'm very eager to debut" Jaehan said confidently. "It doesn't matter where I debut, as long as I could debut right away."

There was a time he thought of giving up on his dream. Time flies, and worried that people gradually forget about him. At each time he had Jaehyun's promise to "sing unconditionally", his conviction that he never give up and keep running forward.

"There was a time that I feel tired and wants to give up. But I never thought of quitting for a single moment. I thought, If I keep working hard, I will be recognized as an idol one day. All the hardships right now will be an experience. Of course, I should go well, but even if things don't go the way I want them to, I don't think I'm going to be so heartbroken by the way it's going. "

[RECAP] Jung Daehyun Returns to New York for ‘K-Fun Summer School’

There’s always something exciting going on at The Shops at Skyview and this summer they’re back with their annual K-Fun Korean cultural activities. From June 16 to August 8, Skyview has expanded the event to six weeks with one day each week dedicated to exploring the themes of K-Pop, K-art, K-fashion, K-wellness, K-food, and K-culture.

The event adopted a “Skyview High” theme. Skyview has partnered with local foundations, including River Fund and Book Fairies to host a School Supply Drive to support children in need for their school year.

On June 16, K-Pop Day featured a special meet & greet with Jung Daehyun. Daehyun debuted as the main vocalist of the K-Pop boy group B.A.P in 2012. After the group parted ways with their former company, the members pursued their solo activities. During this time, Daehyun continued to release music and ventured into musical theater. His appearance at the meet & greet marked his first time back in New York since the last B.A.P tour in 2018. Last year’s guest was Daehyun’s fellow B.A.P member Jongup and this time Skyview had more surprises in store for BABYs (their fandom name).Cr. Angela L. Cr. Angela L.

To commemorate his return, fansites prepared several projects for the occasion. One was a Times Square billboard, which Daehyun visited upon arrival, sharing photos on his Instagram stories. Upon entering Skyview Mall, shoppers were greeted with a large “Welcome back to NYC” support ad projected on the main lobby’s LED display.

Before his public appearance, Daehyun held a press conference with Wesley Sin, Regional Marketing Manager of Shopcore Properties, owners, and managers of The Shops at Skyview. Daehyun stepped out dressed in a Korean high school-inspired uniform to match the event’s school theme and began posing for press photos. He mentioned how being back in New York made him reminisce about the time he spent with his B.A.P members. Although he felt nervous about returning as a soloist, he expressed his eagerness to see the fans again. Daehyun stated that his biggest goal for the year is the upcoming B.A.P comeback, and he plans on releasing solo music after that.

“Because those memories between me and BABYs are so meaningful, I think this time around my appearance with B.A.P is the most important thing in my life.”

For the meet & greet, fans arrived dressed up in school uniforms and brought out their Matoki lightsticks and banners. Some even had Daehyun’s solo lightstick. As it was a sold-out event, the 4th-floor level quickly filled up and screams echoed throughout the area.

First up was a performance from AKF Dance Studio who prepared dance covers of viral K-Pop hits. Afterward, Wesley introduced the next guest as an “exchange student from South Korea,” prompting everyone to shout “DAEHYUN!” in return. He stepped on stage and began performing “Bomb (느낌있게),” a song from his single album Aight.

During the Q&A session, Daehyun shared how he spent his New York trip at Times Square to see the billboards. The area held special significance for Daehyun as B.A.P was the first K-Pop group to perform there. As a musical actor, he also expressed his wish to perform on Broadway one day. Cr. There were fun, interactive activities prepared for the day along with special prizes in store. Attendees who submitted their photo using Skyview’s student ID filter on Instagram had a chance to be entered in the contest. A lucky fan won a signed cat shirt designed by Daehyun while two others sampled his handmade kimbap and tanghulu cocktail. Before ending the event, staff brought out a birthday cake (provided by the fansites Mato Ranger and dreamdaby_대박몽) as Daehyun’s 31st birthday was coming up. B.A.P’s “Happy Birthday” started playing on the speakers as Daehyun blew out the candles. He made three birthday wishes: to return to New York; for everyone to be happy and healthy; and the third one was kept a secret.Cr. The Shops at Skyview Cr. The Shops at Skyview

Lastly, Daehyun took photos with the audience as he waved goodbye. Attendees lingered around to check out the booths from the event sponsors. Free drinks adorned with cupsleeves (provided by the fansite PUZZLEPIECE) were distributed to attendees.

Although K-Pop Day is over, don’t forget to check out other upcoming K-Fun events. Attendance is free with registration on their site. Participants who attend more than four classes will receive a graduation gift with a signed poster from Daehyun.
