REVISIT: Beyoncé ✨
Today marks the end of revisiting Beyoncé and WHAT A JOURNEY! There were so many growers and loves from the first listening (mostly older stuff). I didn't expect to fall in love with B'Day and it's probably one of my faves from her. I also finally shake my ass to RENAISSANCE 💖

Album Review of the Week: Beyoncé - B'Day (Deluxe Edition) (2007)☆☆☆☆
B'Day is Beyoncé's second solo album, and the first after Destiny's Child officially disbanded in 2006. The album is heavily inspired by her starring role in Dreamgirls, the album began initial productions immediately after the film wrapped.
This is my favorite Beyoncé album as a whole, as it is very well-packed with hard hitting, danceable tracks. Even the ballads do such a good job of showcasing her vocal talents that they are still entertaining.
The one song I really don't like is Listen, as that is just too full of oversinging and shoutsinging. World Wide Woman is attached to that track as a "hidden track" which is a shame because that one is a lot of fun and you are forced to sit through Listen to get to it.
This reissue opens with a new song and single, Beautiful Liar, which features Shakira. This is such a fun collaboration! They blended together really well and I liked the message that you shouldn't hate your guy's "sidepiece" if she didn't know he was taken! The vocal riff of "be-yon-ce, beyonce, sha-ki-ra, shakira" was a lot of fun as well.
In real time - 2006/7 - I was simply indifferent to Beyoncé but Irreplaceable was absolutely inescapable at the time! The song was everywhere so it is impossible not to associate it with my entire 9th grade experience. We were learning order of operations in algebra and one kid in class always said "to the left, to the left" when we were discussing which bits of the problem to solve first (R.I.P, Aaron!). Besides this, it is a really great song that is sassy while still having a soft tone which is a rare combination.
Get Me Bodied starts a great string of high energy, sassy tracks. This one also features that "uh oh, uh oh, oh no no" that is also heard on Single Ladies from the next album! It is a little repetitive but the energy it brings certainly makes up for that.
Then we get into Freakum Dress which goes on every playlist I make that needs some good energy. The music video is completely insane! The editor(s?) must have worked a lot of extra hours for that. I like that it has the hard hitting beats while also still having a soaring melody that flows really well in the chorus. This one almost has a marching band instrumental which is quite interesting.
Suga Mama is definitely the most funk-inspired track of the bunch. It sounds fantastic! The environment gives her room to oversing a bit without sounding too much and loud as we have some good loud instruments behind her. Ring the Alarm has the same energy with some more modern rhythms and sounds. Tons of sass and energy in this one as well!
Disc 2 of this expanded album mostly has remixes and Spanish versions of Beautiful Liar, Listen, and Irreplaceable. Most are forgettable, but the "Norteño" version of Irreplaceable is elite, it is so cool to give this a Regional Mexican spin!
A great solid album from this star who is just at the beginning of world domination!
