Mini-Comfortember 2024 Day 2

Alt Prompt 2: Coffee (& TV)

For @azertyrobaz’s mini-comfortember

(Takes place after we meet Nico for the first time, but before Eighteen, Day)

TW/CW: none that I can think of, honestly. There's a lot going on in the background that you wouldn't know unless you read the series, but this drabble from Nico's POV is pretty tame

To Nico’s surprise, Khaled the intern not only came back the next day, but he also came back with a paper cup in his hands along with his lunch bag.

“What’s this?” It was pretty obvious what it was as the smell of brewed coffee wafted through the guard shack. The boy extended the cup to him with a small shy smile.

Nico took it, noticing it wasn’t as hot as it could’ve been if it were made fresh. “I bought it for you when the boss sent me out on a coffee run earlier,” Khaled explained. “I didn’t know what you liked, so it’s just a plain coffee, if that’s okay.”

“Aww, thank you! Plain coffee is just fine!” Nico sipped it gratefully, even if it did taste like bitter, plain, overpriced coffee. (At least it wasn’t scalding hot, right?) Nobody had thought to give the security guard coffee before, and he wasn’t going to let Khaled’s offering go to waste. “Hope you didn’t pay too much for it,” he lightly joked.

“Oh, I didn’t, I put it on the boss’ card,” the intern replied.

Nico frowned, then shrugged. As if Don Costa was going to notice a few bucks unaccounted for on his platinum credit card. He thanked the man in his head as he pulled up the latest live footage of a soccer game.

Khaled kneeled in front of the desk to face the computer. Nico made a mental note to get another chair in here, if he was going to make visiting the guard shack a regular thing. “So, it looks like we have a few games going on right now,” he said, scrolling through the soccer schedules. “Do you want to watch Saudi Arabia vs. Egypt, or Barcelona vs. Real Madrid, or Brighton vs. Liverpool?” 

“Dunno,” Khaled shrugged, unpacking his sandwich and stuffing it into his mouth as soon as he’d unwrapped it.

“Brighton vs. Liverpool it is!”Nico sipped his coffee, smiling all the while as they chatted and watched the game. After months of doing this job with nobody else to talk to, it was refreshingly nice to have Khaled drop by and hang out. He hoped that the intern would make it a regular thing, as he could imagine them becoming good friends with enough time.

Kaeya

Kaeya was one of those guys who aren't swept by emotions that easily

he's been very composed the whole time

even in private or alone

he's long since stopped tears to swell up in his eyes

but that didn't mean that his fake smile looked even faker than usual

or that his heart didn't feel like it was crumbling apart

despise everything,

you were nothing but a human

weak and fragile

your embrace with death was simply tighter than others your age

he kept on reading the books you recommended him

and once he would be done, he would share his thoughts to your tomb

reading was the only thing he could do to be close to you now

and once he was done reading every book you mentioned or recommended,

he would read them all over again

he remained as cheeky as ever

Diluc

he was asked what in the world was "the angels' drink"

the answer he gave was a given

"something that the angels drink."

"it's just some fruit juice"

he would glare at the customer

on the verge of throwing them out

how dare they make such remarks

he did consider it when you asked him

"Diluc, what's the share of the angels ?"

he looked at you in confusion after that

he decided it to be your favorite drink

he never would have admitted it to you if you were still with him

he'd be very flustered if you pointed it out, though

not that he'd show it

the drink ended up being a total flop

but he never took if down

he would keep it up until someone takes over

he would also drink it once in a while

to remind himself of you

the angels' share was a piece of his heart

Albedo

he kept that sketch of you with him at all times

emotions weren't his forte

he did what he could for you

and he did find you extremely interesting

for one

why in the world would you stay on dragonspine just for him ?

especially with a wide grin on your face

completely disregarding how much you were shaking

most of the time you just sat there and asked questions

when you didn't asked questions, you'd either stare at him working

or he'd be explaining you how things work

not to say

he felt lonelier now

he never knew why you stopped coming

but he had an idea of what happened

on his next trip to mondstadt

he learned what happened to you

he didn't appear sad in the least

but instead

his work's quality dropped

and the amount he made was significantly smaller

what a strange guy he was

often

he'd draw your picture again

to make sure he wouldn't forget how to make you

it was strange to him

but it was an activity he did

and it was now a part of his daily routine

Bennett

strangely enough

the moment you passed was the moment Bennett's misfortune stopped

call it fate

call it the ultimate misfortune

his luck simply returned to him

and his misfortune left

maybe was it because his misfortune poured out completely after you were gone

maybe was it because he's been out of it ever since

or maybe he didn't cared as much anymore

he'll always regret taking you with him that time

of course he didn't stop adventuring

but he wouldn't complain if the weather was terrible and he had to stay in

you two were still teenagers

his dads were very concerned about him

with a lot of time he moved on

ever since that day

he would tell that you took his misfortune with you

to protect him and protect others

you'd forever be his hero

he'll talk about your adventurous tales to the younger adventurers several years later

he managed to move on

even if Mondstadt doesn't see you as such, you'd forever remain the person he looked up to the most

Razor

he was doing terrible

he still wasn't used to be around humans

and he was just a kid, too

thankfully his wolf pack was here for him

plus some kind hearted people from Mondstadt, such as his friends

even Amber who only met him once

Lisa also came by every so often

he was surrounded by care and kindness

but he felt so lonely and empty

who was going to fall asleep next to him while watching the night sky ?

who was going to tell him stories about the stars

or some gossips of what's going in town

or talk about stuff he doesn't understand

teach him how to live with humans

he didn't want to leave his pack

but if it was with you

maybe he would have

in the end

his pack was all he's always had

Mini-Comfortember 2024 Day 1

Prompt 1: Sleepyhead

Set during the Second Job era of the Eternal series

“And that’s how you change out a spark plug, comprende? Khaled? Hey, Khaled, Khaled –despierta!”

Khaled startled from where he leaned hunched over the open hood of a car, nearly losing his balance until Julio reached out to steady him. His boyfriend/now employer looked over him skeptically. “You good?” he asked.

Falling asleep standing up. That’s a new one, even for me! Khaled thought. “I –yeah, I’m fine, just a little tired,” he answered.

Julio frowned. “How much of that did you understand? Tell me the truth,” he reminded him.

Khaled stared down at the inner workings of the Subaru in front of them. “Um…” Julio slanted an eyebrow at him. Busted.

Khaled shook his head. “I’m sorry,” he apologized, “I know I’m wasting your time, and I know I can try harder, just, I don’t know, give me another chance, and-” His sentence was cut off by a yawn.

Julio locked arms with him and firmly but lovingly herded Khaled away from the shop floor and towards the stairs of the loft. “I’m giving you a nap, sleepyhead!” He unlaced their arms and gently pushed Khaled forward, prompting him to climb up to the loft, where a worn mattress and a soft blanket lay in wait.  “Get some rest, and we can try again tomorrow, okay?”

“But-”

“Get some rest,” Julio repeated. Khaled sighed, even if he was secretly relieved to be let off the hook. “I’ll come up to wake you in a bit!” Julio promised as Khaled made his way up to the loft and collapsed onto the makeshift bed.
