I just watched Ultra Maniac

so, I just watched Ultra Maniac and I must admit it was pretty good!

I definitely don't see people talk about it as much as other shoujo or magical girl shows.

I'd say it is a 8/10

Huh…

I have the Ultra Maniac manga books (the entire series) and in the localized manga, it says in one part that a boy wouldn’t stop poking Ayu on the bus. I was surprised that in the original Japanese text, it said that the boy was actually molesting her. Like I was shocked I guess.

(Note, this is the part that prompted Nina to make the ring for Ayu that gives people electric shocks.)

This is a scan from the really Americanized localized version. It’s like a 4kids dub. Idk how I never realized how Americanized the localized version was with all its cheesy text, but I did first read it at age 12.

Good for you Ayu, DON’T read Harry Potter. Truly ahead of the times.

Nina Sakura isn't exactly your typical teenage girl. She's actually a transfer student from a witch school in another dimension. But this new friend, much to her surprise, is no ordinary classmate. Nina Sakura may look like a normal middle school girl, but she's got a big secret. She's a witch. Or, rather, she's studying to be a witch. And, apparently, she's not doing her homework. Her spells are devastating in their ineffectiveness and often result in the most embarrassing situations for poor Ayu. But things wouldn't be so bad if Nina's sorcery didn't make Ayu look silly in front of the one boy she secretly adores. All she wants is a simple love potion. What she gets, however, is a new best friend who almost flunked out of witch school!

I can't ever pick a ship. I like Ayu and Tetsushi, but what about Ayu and Nina? Nina and Tetsushi? Nina and Hiroki? Tetsushi and Hiroki? All four of them together? I can't choose!!!!!

Also I'm guessing this fandom is dead, so if I ever go into anything, nobody can give me trouble for it since I'm all alone! Not a bad way to live :)

When I was like 12 I read a manga called Ultra Maniac and really enjoyed it

Feeling bored, I read it again for the first time since middle school and thought “This is gonna suck lol” But somehow I just ended up enjoying it just as much? Maybe even more than I did back then? I highly recommend it even?

If you want a short and sweet shoujo manga with a little bit of magic...

Note, it can be read on mangatown, but I recommend an adblocker. Also the English translation of the manga is pretty Americanized and corny, but adds to the charm. They were going for a Sabrina the Teenage Witch feel with the translation I think. Honestly the manga as a whole COULD be compared to it... but with light drama, shoujo tropes, and a lotta fuzzy feels.
