La Grande Arche de la Défense is a monument and building in the business district of La Défense and in the commune of Puteaux, to the west of Paris, France. It is usually known as the Arche de la Défense or simply as La Grande Arche. Opened on 14 July 1989, the two-hundredth anniversary of the French Revolution, the Grande Arche is the symbolic monument of the business district La Défense. It was built on the 'Axe historique' of Paris and offers a unique view of the Arc de Triomphe, the obelisk of Place de la Concorde and the Louvre museum. Day 151 (1/26/13) @ 6pm: And finally, if you extended the #AxeHistorique even further east, you'd hit this landmark... the #JulyColumn in #PlaceDeLaBastille. Thats right, the place where the #Bastille once stood. After this, I went home effin exhausted. 8hrs at the Louvre the day before then this quest of mine. Day 151 (1/26/13) @ 530pm: Though the #AxeHistorique ends at the #ArcDeTriompheDuCarrousel and the #Louvre, if you were to extend the imaginary line, the #HotelDeVille (City Hall) would totally fall on it. I heard there was a #skatingrink... the Canadian in me had to go see! Impressive rink, and there were def some pros doing jumps and spins. Top pic, looking NW back at the #ArcDeLaDefense, while, bottom, looking ahead SE at the #ChampsElysees, the 3rd quarter of the #AxeHistorique.
