Bad Batch Reacting to Shy Significant Other (s/o)

Tech

I feel like it's fanon that flirting goes right over Tech's head even when it's explicitly like "hey tech you're hot". And honestly, I see it. So with that in mind, it takes an even longer spell of mutual pining than usual before feelings are confessed and relationship is established. But to save you from that 100K word torture, we'll go for an established relationship here.

Tech finds his s/o's shy nature a really nice contrast to his loud abrasive brothers. It's honestly like a breath of fresh air to him. When he wants peace and quite, he always goes to his s/o.

Having said that, his s/o is also a fantastic listener, so sometimes he'll run up to them super excited and giddy with information. Unlike his brothers, his s/o has the time to listen.

Having a shy s/o also helps Tech develop much better social skills. He gets so much better at reading body language since sometimes his s/o is either too shy or too content to listen to his voice to interrupt him when they're tired or sick.

He doesn't really dot over his s/o but Tech definitely loves to just be in their presence.

The only time his s/o is really loud is when they're super proud. Tech will build something in record time that saves the team and his s/o would be like "YEAH! THAT'S MY MAN!" and plant a phat kiss on his lips in front of all his brothers. Both Tech and s/o immediately go silent and wide eyed as the adrenaline fades and his s/o realises they have an audience. Tech's face would glow a gorgeous red while his s/o smiles shyly at everyone as they laugh at their enthusiasm.

Hunter

Again with Hunter, and really all the boys I reckon, his s/o's shyness is a really sweet relief from the high volume he deals with on a regular basis.

What Hunter loves about his s/o, is they often express their love through just helping out and doing anything they can to make Hunter's job a little easier. There's a wordless exchange of just Hunter and his s/o looking after each other and loving each other through acts and service. Kind of like an "actions speak louder then words thing".

His s/o’s not quite so bold as to explicitly say how much they love him, and they're not always confident enough to initiate any physical affection, but Hunter knows. He knows what it means and it does not go unappreciated.

S/o's shy nature also seems to draw Omega's curiosity. Over time, it's actually Meg who ends up bringing Hunter's s/o out of their shell a little more which he finds so sweet. He loves that those two get along so well.

I think Hunter would also be a lot more protective over a shy s/o as well. He would also very quickly learn to be more gentle.

The moments in between chaotic missions when his s/o just plays with his hair gives Hunter life.

Wrecker

OH MY GOODNESS! He's Like So GeNtLe???

Sometimes he might tease his s/o a little "awww you're not gonna go all shy on me again are ya?!!". But he honestly thinks it's so cute.

Wrecker is a pretty giving guy, so I feel like he would always be showering his s/o with compliments but just never expecting them back.

Until one day his s/o does compliment him back and he just lights up and lets out a hoot of laughter as he picks them off their feet and squeezes them in a tight hug which makes his s/o giggle.

I kind of see him being as gentle with his s/o as he is with Omega.

He's always so encouraging. Whether his s/o wants to try new things like going out dancing or just stay in the Marauder and have a snuggled up holovid night, Wrecker is always onboard.

Now, usually Wrecker is quite loud but, whenever his s/o talks, he just goes so quiet. He loves the sound of his s/o's voice and doesn't want to miss it.

He also loves cuddles. Sometimes his s/o is too shy to ask, but when they just stand in front of his bunk silently, he knows it's a silent request for cuddles. He'll scoop them up and wrap them with love.

Echo

I think being the only reg in the bad batch would make Echo feel kind of lonely sometimes. He's different from the regs but also from tbb. So with that in mind, I think Echo would find great comfort and companionship in a s/o.

His shy s/o is such a good listener and becomes his confidant.

Echo's character has also given me shy vibes from time to time so I feel like there might be some similarities of character?

I think Echo is also quite good at reading people and emotion so often he just knows when his s/o is sad/tired/sick/etc. which is good since his s/o is sometimes too shy to divert any attention to themselves.

Echo often seems to put on a bit of a tough guy persona to fit in with the bad batch, but with his s/o, that all fades away. His s/o's genuine attitude encourages him to be himself again. Sometimes he'll act similar to how he was before the citadel.

He speaks softer and seems happier with his s/o.

I think both Echo and his s/o would also be quite reserved and shy with physical affection. Their relationship is probably predominately emotional. But every now and then, they share little kisses on the cheeks or a peck on the lips. And honestly? Echo couldn't ask for anything better.

Crosshair

Crosshair has always been more of an introvert, so being in a relationship was never going to be a smooth transition. I think at first Crosshair would find his s/o's shyness annoying. But their gentle demeanor would grow on him over time. (This is before they were together).

Eventually he'd find himself spending more and more time with his s/o, enjoying being in their presence as he writes reports or cleans his blaster. And before he knows it he's got this (kinda nice feeling?) weird feeling in his stomach and actually even stumbled over his words once when speaking to them.

Once they finally get together, I feel like (similar to Hunter) he would be super protective of his s/o too.

Crosshair also isn't much for words, so when he wants his s/o's attention he'll kind of like h o v e r . Which his s/o finds so cute.

Eventually though, he'll run out of patience if his s/o doesn't respond so he'll just start getting really snuggly and touchy until his s/o finally caves and gives him attention.

His expressions and voice are always softer towards his s/o. His brothers notice but know better than to bring it up.

Novels: I am gonna be lazy and literally copy/paste the entire danmei section of my top 10 web novels post (except MXTX’s stuff since you are already reading it.) Let me know if you need help finding any of these.

Lord Seventh - I am only partway through this so far, but it’s already on the list because it’s smart and somehow intense AND laid-back (not sure how this works, but it does) and is honestly just a really really solid and smart period novel, with the OTP a cherry on top of a narrative sundae. Plus, I love the concept of MC deciding he is not going for his supposedly fated love - he’s tried for six lifetimes, always with disaster, and he’s just plain done and tired. When he opens his life in his seventh reincarnation and sees the person he would have given up the world for, he genuinely feels nothing at all. (Spoiler - his OTP is actually a barbarian shaman this time around, thank you Lord!)

Golden Stage - my perfect comfort novel. Probably the least angsty of any danmei novel on this list (which still means plenty angsty :P) It also has a dedicated, smart OTP that is an OTP for the bulk of the book - I think you will notice that in most of the novels in this list, I go for “OTP against the world” trope - I can’t stand love triangles and the same. Anyway, Fu Shen, is a famous general whose fame is making the emperor   antsy. When he gets injured and can’t walk any more, the emperor gladly recalls him and marries him off to his most faithful court lackey, the head of sort of secret police, Yan Xiaohan. The emperor intends it both  as a check on the general and a general spite move since the two men   always clash in court whenever they meet. But not all is at is seems. They used to be  friends a long time ago, had a falling out, and one of the loveliest  parts of the novel is them finding their way to each other, but there is  also finding the middle path between their two very different  philosophies and ways of being, not to mention solving a conspiracy or  dozen, and putting a new dynasty on the throne, among other things. It always makes me think, a little, of “if Mei Changsu x Jingyan were canon.”

Sha Po Lang - if you like a lot of fantasy politics and world-building and steampunk with your novels, this one is for you. This one is VERY plot-heavy with smart, dedicated characters and a deconstruction of many traditional virtues - our protagonist Chang Geng, a long-lost son of the Emperor, is someone who wants to modernize the country but also take down the current emperor his brother for progress’ sake and the person he’s in love with is the general who saved him when he was a kid who is nominally his foster father. Anyway, the romance is mainly a garnish in this one, not even a big side dish, but the relationship between two smart, dedicated, deadly individuals with very different concepts of duty is fascinating long before it turns romantic. And if you like angst, while overall it’s not as angsty as e.g., Meatbun stuff, Chang Geng’s childhood is the stuff of nightmares and probably freaks me out more than anything else in any novel on this list, 2ha included.

To Rule In a Turbulent World (LSWW) - gay Minglan. No seriously. This is how I think of it. it’s a slice of life period novel with fascinating characters and  setting that happens to have a gay OTP, not a romance in a period  setting per se and I always prefer stories where the romance is not the only thing that is going on. It’s meticulously written and smart and deals with  character development and somehow makes daily minutia fascinating. Our   protagonist, You Miao, is the son of a fabulously wealthy merchant,   sent to the capital to make connections and study. As the story starts, he sees his friend’s  servants beating someone to death, feels bad, and buys him because, as  we discover gradually and organically, You Miao may be wealthy and  occasionally immature but he is a genuinely good person. The person he buys is a barbarian from beyond the wall, named   Li Zhifeng. It’s touch and go if the man will survive but eventually he does and You Miao, who by then has to return home, gives him his papers  and lets him go. However, LZF decides to stick with You Miao instead, both  out of sense of debt for YM saving his life and because he genuinely  likes him (and yet, there is no instalove on either of their parts, their bodies have fun a lot quicker than their souls.) Anyway, the two  take up farming, get involved in  the imperial exams and it’s the life of prosperity and peace, until an invasion happens and things go rapidly to hell. This is so nuanced, so smart (smart people in this actually ARE!) and has secondary characters who are just as complex as the mains (for example, I ended up adoring YM’s friend, the one who starts the plot by almost beating LZF to death for no reason) because the novel never forgets that few people are all villain. There is a lovely character arc or two - watching YM grow up and LZF thaw - there is the fact that You Miao is a unicorn in web novels being laid back and calm. This whole thing is a masterpiece.

Stains of Filth (Yuwu) - want the emotional hit of 2ha but want to read something half its length? Well, the author of 2ha is here to eviscerate you in a shorter amount of time. This has the beautiful world-building, plot twists that all make sense and, at the center of it all, an intense and all-consuming and gloriously painful relationship between two generals - one aristocratic loner Mo Xi, and the other gregarious former slave general Gu Mang. Once they were best friends and lovers, but when the novel starts, Gu Mang has long turned traitor and went to serve the enemy kingdom and has now been returned and Mo Xi, who now commands the remnants of his slave army, has to cope with the fact that he has never been able to get over the man who stabbed him through the heart. Literally. This novel has a gorgeously looping structure, with flashbacks interwoven into present storyline. There is so much love and longing and sacrifice in this that I am tearing up a bit just thinking of it. If you don’t love Mo Xi and Gu Mang, separately and together, by the end of it, you have no soul.

The Dumb Husky and His White Cat Shizun (2ha/erha) - if you’ve been following my tumblr for more than a hot second, you know my obsession with this novel. Honestly, even if I were to make a list of my top 10 novels of any kind, not just webnovels, this would be on the list. It has everything I want - a complicated, intricate plot with an insane amount of plot twists, all of which are both unexpected and make total sense, a rich and large cast of characters, a truly epic OTP that makes me bawl, emotional intensity that sometimes maxes even me out and so much character nuance and growth. Also, Moran is my favorite web novel character ever, hands down.

Anyway, the plot (or at least the way it first appears) is that the evil emperor of the cultivation world, Taxian Jun, kills himself at 32 and wakes up in the body of his 16 year old self, birth name Moran. Excited to get a redo, Moran wants to save his supposed true love Shimei, whose death the last go-around pushed him towards evil. He also wants to avoid entanglement with Chu Wanning, his shizun and sworn enemy in past life. And that’s all you are best off knowing, trust me. The only hint I am going to give is oooh boy the mother of all unreliable narrators has arrived!

The novel starts light and funny on boil the frog principle - if someone told me I would be full bawling multiple times with this novel, I’d have thought they were insane, but i swear my eyes hurt by the end of it. I started out being amused and/or disliking the mains and by the end I would die for either of them.

The Wife is First - OK, this one did not make my top 10 web novels but it’s a sweet, fun gay cottagecore fest. Our ML, a royal prince, and his spouse, a smart if delicate aristocrat, keep house, eat noodles, play with their pet tiger, make out and spoil each other rotten, while occasionally fighting battles and outwitting their court enemies. It’s so very mellow. That couple redefines low drama - they are both nice and functional and use their brains. It’s as if a nice jock and a nice nerd got together and then proceeded to be wholesome all over the place.

I mean, the set up could be dramatic - our ML the prince, lost his fight for the throne and is about to be killed. The only person who stayed loyal to him is his arranged husband the aristocrat guy who ML never treated nicely since he resented marrying him (marrying a man in that world is done to remove someone from the ability to inherit the throne.) And yet the husband stood by him not out of love but beliefs in loyalty blah blah. Anyway, he transmigrates back into the past right after their wedding night and is all “I got a second chance OMG! I don’t want the throne what is even the point? I want to live a good long life and treat the only person who stood by me really well!” And he proceeds to do so to the shock of the aristocrat who had a very unpleasant wedding night and generally can tell the man he just married would rather eat nails than be married to him. But soon enough (no seriously, it’s not many chapters at all) he believes the prince is sincere blah blah and then  they get together and they pretty much become cottagecore goals.

In terms of dramas, I only do period dramas (or novels) so I am not the person to be able to recommend any modern BLs. There is a flood of upcoming (hopefully) period BL dramas but it’s relatively thin on the ground now. The two I will recommend is Word of Honor (which is AMAZING) and Winter Begonia (which I just started watching but which owns me already.) I have a tag for both - the one for the former is huge and I cannot recommend either strongly enough. I’ve heard good things about The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, but I am not big on mysteries so haven’t watched it for myself.

In terms of the upcoming BLs, the ones I am most looking forward to are Immortality and Winner Is King, but The Society of the Four Leaves also looks promising.

From there, it's basically three variously messed-up guys’ trajectories from "This Is Fine", "Reasonably Speaking I Know It’s Fine", "I Will Be Fine With It" to actually being fine, guest-starring a far-better-adjusted teenage boy who climbs walls, a 1957 Ford Thunderbird, two women with a keen sense of the absurd, and Bruce, the Zen master of “it’s fine that it’s not fine.” Add in the fact that Bucky's been secretly in love with Steve since the thirties and things only get harder. Learning to be a person is the hardest thing Bucky Barnes will ever have to do--but he's got company along the way.

0:20 - There’s no way Martin is actually going to escape Claremont until AT LEAST the season finale.

0:55 - Anyone else annoyed that Ainsley isn’t in Martin’s fantasy? I mean - it’s completely in character but it still pisses me off.

2:21 - Malcolm has a stationary bike. Of course he does. But why does he listen to the personal trainer lady (who I assume was a recording programmed on the bike)? Malcolm doesn’t seem like he needs praise or motivation to exercise. He probably does it the way I do - mindlessly as a habit. A habit built from the knowledge that if I skip a morning workout I will feel more unsettled and anxious than usual before lunch....and don’t even get me started on how quickly my depressive thoughts escalate. 

2:24 - ....I’m still convinced/hoping that this is a false memory Martin has planted in Malcolm. I’m all for Malcolm whump and Malcolm trauma...but the thought of Gil, the team, and Jessica finding out that Malcolm committed a crime terrifies me. I don’t want him to go to jail. I don’t want Gil and the team to turn their back on him. I don’t want Jessica to blame herself (more than usual).

2:39 - I love that the “Malcolm pretty much only feeds himself liquorice and lollipops” is still canon this season.

2:42 - OMG. That is not a helpful affirmation. Like maybe for anyone? If you’re traumatized/depressed/anxious “consider the past and you shall know the future” is not comforting or inspiring. It’s the opposite.

2:48 - I’m loving how confidently Malcolm has been shutting down Martin’s manipulation. #soproud

2:52 - Anyone else super upset that Martin is the person with whom Malcolm discusses his mental health the most honestly? 

3:12 - Check out the way Mr. David looks at Martin here. Does Mr. David already know about Endicott? Or is he just like, “Bitch, spit it out so I don’t have to keep guessing your current family drama.”?

3:17 - “Let’s have another session today.” .....Does Martin really think he’s Malcolm’s new therapist? DOES MALCOLM THINK THAT? IS THAT WHY HE ISN’T SEEING GABRIELLE? HAS MARTIN MANIPULATED HIM INTO THINKING THAT HE DOESN’T NEED GABRIELLE?!?

3:22 - hahahaha OMG. Mr.David is so done with Martin’s theatrics.

3:32 - Ok so two things:

Martin’s insight on Malcolm’s mental health/coping mechanisms is disturbingly on point. Almost like he’s an attentive, caring, father (which he isn’t). 

How long was Gil outside Malcolm’s door before he knocked? Do you think he overheard Malcolm’s side of the conversation? I kind of hope he did. But only if it means I get to see Gil asking Malcolm about it.

3:50 - “Put me on speaker.” I’m torn. Part of me is so proud of Malcolm for denying Martin’s need for attention....but part of me is living for a Martin/Gil showdown where they fight over Malcolm in front of Malcolm.

3:54 - Ok. So Gil was a jerk last episode but I forgive him. Gil just showed up at Malcolm’s apartment to tell him about a case instead of calling Malcolm. Gil knew Malcolm would be upset. Gil knew that Malcolm needed to hear this in person. <3 My heart is full. <3 

4:12 - Concerned!Gil is everything. Look at how much he cares about Malcolm and what this case will inevitably bring up for Malcolm. You can almost see how badly Gil doesn’t want Malcolm on this case. 

4:13 - “What if I said I need you?” Damn. Gil knows. He knows that Malcolm desperately doesn’t want to ever disappoint Gil. Gil is Malcolm’s hero and, when Malcolm is thinking straight, he’d do anything for Gil. 

4:17 - <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 Gil looks so sad when he notices Malcolm’s hand shaking. Can a heart simultaneously break and heal? 

4:23 - Oh yeah. Gil definitely wanted Brumback dead for what he did to Malcolm. He doesn’t even try giving Malcolm the “you’re being insensitive” look. 

4:42 - Wow. That school is nicer than my university. 

4:47 - Do you think Gil’s been to the school before? To visit and/or pick up Malcolm? ....I really want to believe he did. Gil looks like he’s leading Malcolm through campus. Gil looks like he’s familiar with the campus. Surely that means he visited Malcolm there. Right?

5:17 - So...was the “office under water” thing officially a prank? It’s brutal. Forget the murder, Brumback would’ve expelled kids for that prank. 

5:27 - I love how Dani looks at Gil for clarification here. She’s like, “Malcolm is upset, ranting, and making no sense. I’m not going to set him off further by asking more questions. But I need to know what the hell he’s going on about.”

5:40 - Soooo is JT texting Dani? Or is Tally? I really hope it’s Tally. I hope Dani’s texts are all reading something along the lines of “He won’t stop pacing and panicking. If he doesn’t calm down I’m going to slap him.”

5:43 - I love the look of disbelief that Gil shoots Dani when her phone goes off. haha

5:52 - hahaha Gil so heard Edrisa the first time. He was just giving her a chance to conform to professional social standards. 

6:03 - hahahaha OMG. Edrisa is a treasure.

6:56 - awww Malcolm, baby. :( This boy has so much trauma. I love it. 

7:07 - I’m assuming Malcolm’s ‘high school’ was grades 10-12 (not 8-12 which is common in the area of Canada where I grew up) so that means Tom Payne is currently being passed off as a 15-16 year old. It kinda works. But ngl - I spent most of this scene thinking “could they not hire a kid because of COVID?” 

7:12 - I’m not actually mad that Tom Payne was allowed to play high school Malcolm though. His performance in this scene is really moving. “Be someone new.” :( <3

7:45 - Sooooo Malcolm changed his name before he was legally an adult. If it’s his legal last name (we see “Bright” on pill bottles in S1 so it’s his legal name now at least) Jessica had to have signed the paperwork. Damn. I wish I was there to see that process regardless of when it became his legal last name.

7:49 - Baby Malcolm looks so comforted by Martin’s acceptance of his new name and new school. It breaks my heart. 

8:00 - Wait. There was a teacher who liked Malcolm at this school? The son a serial killer? AND the teacher recognizes Malcolm 15 years later?!? Nah. I don’t buy it. I love Malcolm but I feel like the teachers would’ve avoided developing any sort of relationship with Malcolm even if they didn’t have a problem with him. 

8:05 - Hold up. This school is so fancy. Are you telling me they don’t have outdoor security cameras? Surely those would’ve told you who the suspects for the desk thing were at least. 

8:15 - awwww poor Malcolm looks shattered here. :( 

8:31 - “Easy. Let’s keep an open mind.”  That is pure Dad!Gil energy and I’m here for it. 

8:39 - Of course. Of course Jessica is involved in the rich school. 

8:51 - I’m on Gil and Malcolm’s side here. Jessica is putting her reputation over Malcolm’s mental health. Shame on her. No no. I will not stand for this - and neither will Gil. Damn. Look at how pissed he is on Malcolm’s behalf. <3 So sweet. 

9:06 - “Pop-pop’s aquatic center”!?!? Soooo is Pop-pop Jessica’s grandfather or Malcolm’s? Either way give me more information about the extended family. Are they dead? Did they disown them after the Surgeon business? I WANT ANSWERS FEDAK. 

9:15 - I swear. Malcolm is the best son/brother ever. The sacrifices he makes for his Mom/sister are unreal. Also - how much do you want to bet that Malcolm was thinking about the Endicott murder coming out when Jessica said, “how soon until they connect that back to me?”. Malcolm looks so sad here. 

9:23 - Nah. I don’t like Delaney. Even on the first watch I was put off by him. Something about him just creeps me out. He’s showing a weird amount of affection for Malcolm 15 years after Malcolm finished school. IDK maybe I was just upset that someone was trying to mimic Gil’s relationship with Malcolm? 

9:27 - oooooooohhhhh Mom and Dad are fighting. hahaha Malcolm looks so uncomfortable. Gil looks livid. Is Gil pissed because Jessica dumped him or because she totally just neglected Malcolm’s well-being for her own? Probably both. Either way, it’s endlessly entertaining. 

9:53 - I’m on Gil’s side here. She dumped him (like a f**ing moron) because she “doesn’t want to hurt him” and because she’s “broken” and “cursed”. Yet - she manipulates her way into cases. Making her business Gil’s. Gil should be pissed - she broke his heart. Again. Like he’s literally been choosing to hang out with Malcolm, Jessica’s (let’s face it) broken son, for more than 20 years. Jessica’s crazy if she thinks that she’s going to get Gil killed or hurt just because she’s a Whitly. Malcolm’s technically a Whitly - Gil hasn’t died yet. 

10:15 - “Not usually.” Dang. That was icy.

10:50 - Yo this is one messed up bible study. Take it from someone who has attended many young adult/teenage bible studies. This is crazy. Usually it’s: read the bible for 5-10 minutes as a group, discuss how you interpreted it for 15-20 mins, pray as a group for 5 mins, then like an hour of tea/coffee, cookies, board games, and general chatting about normal stuff like romance, school, and personal drama. 

11:44 - “Poor Tally.” hahaha I’m willing to bet that Tally is texting Dani - not JT. I just can’t imagine a panicking, first-time father, texting his little sister with accurate medical details about his wife’s pre-labour experience. He’s probably way too panicked to remember the medical jargon that is “foley ballon”.

12:00 - I’ve watched this scene about 30 times. I’m in love with it. Tom Payne’s performance is haunting and I’m a sucker for emotional whump. I love how Dani is concerned about Malcolm but respectful enough to pry until he shuts down. I love Malcolm’s little speech about the hand tremor (even though it doesn’t make sense because baby Malcolm’s hand was shaking when Shannon interrogated him - but that’s a whole different can of worms I’m not going to rant about).

 12:39 - Does anyone else think it’s weird that there’s a bolt on the closet door? Why isn’t there a lock in the door handle like every other interior school door? I mean, I guess it’s because they can be unlocked from the inside and Nicky would’ve needed a key....but still. The things I forgive for the sake of plot. 

13:25 - Damn. Brumback was a real jerk. “I know what you really are.” Do you know how painful that would be for Malcolm to hear? Regardless of what he almost did to Nicky? Everywhere Malcolm goes people accuse him of being just like his father. Is it surprising that in a moment of weakness, with teenage hormones, Malcolm snapped and said, “Eff it. They think I’m a murderer anyways.”

13:26 - OMG. How bad were the kids at this school?!?! Brumback expelled so many kids. Holy hell. Also - Brumback is wearing a wedding ring. Did he get divorced before he died? Did his wife pass away before him? Why was his family not part of this investigation at all?

13:31 - Brumback writing “Malcolm Whitly” instead of Malcolm Bright is....ouch. I just. My heart breaks for Malcolm.

13:37 - OMG. Traumatized people going through PTSD flashbacks should not be unattended next to a pool of water. Honestly - I thought our boy was going to drown. Which the whumper in me would’ve loved but also I don’t think it was right for the plot on this one. 

14:38 - Martin is such a liar. He definitely thinks he’s God’s gift to the Earth. 

15:02 - Martin knows a lot about the security zones. Something tells me this isn’t the first time he’s contemplated escaping. 

15:04 - Oh shit. Daryl has an imaginary cell mate. I know that’s a serious mental illness and I shouldn’t laugh but OMG. The moment Martin realizes that Daryl is delusional is priceless. hahahaha

15:25 - How much to do want to bet Mr. David has a red key card? Martin’s grin confirms it. 

15:40 - Wow. The classrooms in this high school are really big. I would’ve thought this fancy private school would have smaller class sizes.

15:49 - YES. OMG. Malcolm walking into that classroom soaking wet is golden. *chef’s kiss* Look at Gil’s face - it’s a mixture of concern and disbelief. He’s soooo worried about Malcolm right now. <3 

16:07 - It’s a good thing Malcolm’s rich because that phone is never going to be useful again. 

16:20 - ahhahahaha OMG. WTF. Gil’s little twinkle-finger wave is hilarious. 

16:38 - This whole scene Gil is just staring at Malcolm with so much concern. It warms my cold, dead heart. <3

16:46 - Do you think Malcolm looked for his name in the book? Is it the same book? Do you think Brumback expelled enough kids that this is a new black book?

17:08 - Ok. So I immediately don’t like Louisa. That level of confidence and self-absorption is very unattractive. 

17:25 - Louisa volunteers in the library. That’s how she got access to the poison. 

17:35 - “Dude. You’re dripping.” “Yeah. Water does that.” Can Malcolm be this sassy every episode?!? I’m living for it. 

17:57 - “Boys right? Oof” haha I love Malcolm talking to teenagers. I want it in every episode. ALSO - the jock’s story about the two girls - I’m sorry, but I just don’t see how that an expulsion level offence unless the kid is leaving something out of the story. 

18:31 - Of course they talked about this before they came there. DELANEY WARNED THEM. But mostly to keep his little cheating ring hush hush. 

18:55 - And just like that we’ve been blessed with Malcolm in casual clothes. Wish I could’ve seen Gil question Malcolm’s swim though. 

19:26 - OMG. Edrisa is such a cute little nerd. <3 Protect her at all costs. 

20:00 - Gil and Jessica arguing is amazing. I’m loving it and hating it. Because I want them to live happily ever after in a fairytale world but I do enjoy the drama. 

20:06 - hahaha look at how Jessica just pushes Gil to the side and plows on to Malcolm. This woman is fierce.

20:11 - Yes. Yes Malcolm. Tell Mom she has unrealistic and insensitive expectations of you.

 20:18 - What kind of school is this?!? The board of trustee members are buddy buddy with the students?!? 

20:22 - “They’re all from impeccable families.” “So was I” Mic drop. Watch Malcolm drop the truth bombs. This is maybe the best line in this episode. 

20:30 - “And just like you - none of them is capable of murder.” .....well this sentence is going to come back and bite Jessica in the butt later this season. 

20:44 - The fact that these kids think Edrisa is a freshman is actually hilarious to me. 

20:50 - OMG. “Welcome to boarding school. Bitch.” I was ready for Louisa to die right here. She just punched Edrisa and then called her a bitch. No no no. Edrisa is a quirky treasure and we must protect her. 

21:00 - Damn. I wish we got to see the team’s reaction when they found out one of their teenage suspects assaulted their favourite M.E.

21:10 - Why is it soooo attractive when Malcolm wears casual shirts under a suit jacket? 

21:53 - “My vote is for Louisa. The girl’s got a heavy fist.” hahaha I love Edrisa. SO SO much. 

22:05 - Soooo is Jessica some sort of consultant now? They used her to interview cult extractors and now rich, teenage murder suspect. Is she the “rich person investigator” now?

22:11 - Does Louisa know that Malcolm is Jessica’s son?

23:04 - Louisa is a bad liar. 

24:15 - Delaney should be ashamed. He told Nicky who Malcolm’s dad was. He is the reason that Malcolm got locked in a closet for 3 days. He is the reason Malcolm is claustrophobic. This man should have his teaching license seized and be charged with child abuse. What he did was absolutely despicable. 

24:35 - “My mom’s sending a car.” It’s nice that Malcolm doesn’t always refer to Jessica as “mother”

25:00 - This is heartbreaking. I hope Nicky got expelled. If he didn’t - Malcolm experience a bigger injustice than we were lead to believe. Look at Nicky walking away from Malcolm. That kid has no remorse. I don’t blame Malcolm for seeking revenge. Malcolm keeps getting burned by people. Something had to give eventually.

25:30 - The biggest crime this episode committed is that we only saw Malcolm getting comfort from DELANEY. Honestly. Where was my papa Gil moment?!? Or a Dani+Malcolm moment?!?

25:51 - I doubt Delaney tried to stand up for Malcolm. He probably encouraged the expulsion. 

26:05 - “Please.” Yikes. This has been torturing Malcolm for years. Who sold him out? Who ruined his last chance at a happy childhood? Who allowed him to be traumatized further? Who gave him the hand tremor (assuming we’re ignoring the S1 canon). 

26:38 - What. A. Getaway. This school is full of crazy rich kids.

26:55 - “This time”?!? Doesn’t Martin always root for the killer?

27:05 - I love everything about this interaction between Martin and Malcolm. I love how upset Malcolm is. I love how Malcolm calls out Martin for being a bad dad. I love that Martin just sits there and takes it. Martin even looks a little sad. It makes me wonder - did Martin know about Delaney’s cheating ring? Did Martin manipulate Delaney into thinking Malcolm was a threat and convince him to get Malcolm expelled? I can see Martin doing it. If for no other reason than to tarnish the “Milton legacy” at Remington. 

28:04 - UGH. I want to see how Malcolm got out of that closet SO BAD. Who found him? How close to death was he? PLEASE TELL ME IT WAS GIL. Why didn’t Jessica investigate when Malcolm didn’t show up at the Hamptons as planned? 

28:13 - “How you wish that were true.” Ouch. Martin is a real asshole. He knows just how to destabilize Malcolm’s confidence. 

28:56 - Even now, Martin is trying to manipulate Malcolm. Their relationship is so dysfunctional, beautiful, heartbreaking, and complex. I could watch them interact forever. 

29:31 - Look at that little head shake from Mr. David. Martin’s cell is not soundproof. Mr. David heard everything. Mr. David always hears everything. Mr. David knows about Endicott. Istg. 

30:12 - Delaney is a scumbag. He might not be a serial killer but he’s another male, adult asshole who gained Malcolm’s trust and then stabbed him in the back. 

30:37 - OK. So I know, I’ve been hypothesizing that Mr. David is an ally to Martin’s crazy schemes, or that he worked for Endicott, or that Martin is going to try to kill Mr. David. BUT YO. IF MR. DAVID DIES I WILL THROW HANDS. HE’S SUCH A GREAT CHARACTER. 

31:40 - This is a weirdly fancy room for video games. Also I miss JT. He should be here. I wish he was here. He would’ve been so good in this episode. Can you imagine his facial expressions and comments when he finds out little tidbits about Malcolm’s teenage past?! It would’ve been comedic GOLD. Couldn’t Tally give birth during a less interesting episode?!?! 

32:15 - I’m convinced that Malcolm isn’t actually upset that Delaney’s crime is running the cheating ring. I think Malcolm’s upset because he just realized the only positive male role model (aside from Gil) that he had as a teenager was a manipulative liar who betrayed him. Malcolm just realized that this dude never cared about him and he’s crushed.

32:27 - Wait. Does Delaney make the kids pay him for the answers? Because that actually makes sense. 

33:08 - This whole scene where Molly runs out of the back room and Dani says, “who are you running from?” is really cringey to me. 

33:19 - Oh great. Now the guy who betrayed Malcolm is touching the back of Malcolm’s neck. JUST LIKE GIL DOES. Well....something tells me that’s going to taint how comforting Malcolm find’s that gesture coming from Gil for a while. Malcolm just isn’t allowed to be happy. Even for a moment. It’s a shame. I also love it. 

33:40 - Awww...poor Malcolm is claustrophobic and he gets locked in the vault with a dying man. Look how desperate he is to get out of there - to save Delaney and to save himself more mental distress. 

33:53 - Look at Malcolm panicking here. He tries to hide his panic as concern for Delaney but he’s clearly freaking out about being trapped in a smallish space. 

34:25 - Yep. Malcolm didn’t think he could trust Daryl because Daryl is delusional. SO Martin threatens to murder Daryl and then metaphorically stabs the dude in the back. This is perfectly in character. 

35:25 - Damn. Louisa is seriously mentally ill. She has zero empathy. 

35:57 - Malcolm projecting his mental issues on the killer du jour is always simultaneously cringey and amazing to me. 

36:26 - I’m not going to lie. Daryl screaming “He’s a Judas” as he was dragged away was hilarious. 

37:04 - Holy shit. This took a turn. I’ll be honest - I don’t blame Malcolm for almost killing Nicky. But it does scare me. 

38:35 - That story must have been haunting Malcolm for 15 years. I bet you he’s never told anyone not even Gabrielle. He’s had nightmares about it. Because he knows he’s capable of murder. Just like Martin. That terrifies Malcolm more than anything in the world. 

39:12 - sooooo Delaney just heard that whole confession. Delaney lives. Something tells me this is going to be a problem for Malcolm when Endicott’s murder is investigated later in the season.

39:35 - “Are you insane?” “Maybe.” That’s it. That’s the show. 

40:00 - Two questions: 1) Where is Dani? 2) Why does Gil not know where Malcolm is right now?

40:22 - Look Fedak screwed us over. We didn’t get to see Gil find Malcolm half-dead on the floor of that library vault. BUT this scene almost makes up for it. 

40:24 - Malcolm wrapped in a blanket is so so cute. I just want to hug him. I want Gil to hug him. Ugh. <3 

40:28 - I love that you can tell that Malcolm and Gil have had this sort of discussion about Malcolm’s sense of self-preservation numerous times in the past. Gil looks sooooo pissed. And concerned. 

40:35 - Malcolm’s imitation of Gil makes me so so so so happy. I just. Ugh. It’s adorable. Look at how exasperated it makes Gil. Look at Dani’s reaction to it. This might be the greatest “found family”. scenes this show has given us to date. 

40:55 - “All in a day’s work.” Oh yeah. Gil is super concerned about Malcolm’s mental state. Gil is Worried. I want to see more of it. 

40:57 - I love that Dani just can’t wait anymore. She’s so precious. Look at how excited she is about JT’s baby. <3 I’m in love. She’s so soft here - it’s beautiful and rare for this show to let the audience see this side of Dani. 

41:00 - GIL’S REACTION. <3 OMG. I LOVE HIM. HE LOOKS SO HAPPY. I HOPE JT AND TALLY DUB HIM THE BABY’S UNOFFICIAL GRANDFATHER. 

41:02 - MALCOLM’S FACE. <3 <3 <3 IS THIS THE FIRST TIME HE’S EVER SEEN A BABY? HE’S SO ENAMORED WITH THIS CHILD ALREADY. LOOK AT HOW MUCH MALCOLM ALREADY LOVES JT’S KID. <3 <3 IT’S SO SOFT. I LOVE IT SO SO SO SO MUCH. 

41:22 - I can’t decide about this scene. On one hand - I think it’s really mature of Malcolm to apologize to Martin. It’s a courtesy that Martin doesn’t deserve. ON THE OTHER HAND - I wonder if Malcolm is only apologizing to throw Martin off balance. I wonder if this is Malcolm’s attempt to manipulate Martin for once. Either way - I love it. 

42:25 - Martin always gets the last word. He always worms his way into Malcolm’s brain and screws with Malcolm’s sense of self. I hate it. But I also find it so captivating. 

43:05 - Sooooo is Martin committing the murder next episode? Or is he just manipulating someone else to commit a murder? Either way - I’m excited.

6x16. “Alpha” - X-Files Rewatch

This episode is all about Scully being the Alpha, who marks her territory (Mulder). What casefile? Through this lens, I really enjoy this episode. You wouldn’t think there would be much to analyze here BUT BOY YOU'D BE WRONG. Also, there’s so many corny jokes, I love it.

Scully arriving from elsewhere in the building with her coat/briefcase seems to indicate she has an office elsewhere in the building. Perhaps she requested somewhere close to the labs? It’s super cute that she comes by to check on Mulder before she leaves. Despite how uncomfortable she was with his silliness in “Arcadia”, I think things are good between them now.

“Aren't you going home?” - Scully “I am home. I'm just feathering the nest.” - Mulder

This is cute, but also kinda sad. The work is his life, how can it be any different?

Mulder has definitely missed going on long monologues about weird shit in front of local law enforcement.

Of course Mulder’s heard of the animal. He has had even more time than usual lately to cram his brain with random strange things.

“You get a biscuit, Scully.” - Mulder, with more stupid jokes. But he’s gazing at her here, so we’ll forgive him. I’m not even mad about it anyways.

Their cute banter in front of the worker installing the fence at Karins. SO FLIRTY. (Also, being mistaken for a couple again!)

“You two looking for Karin about boarding?” - Stacy Muir “No, it's actually more of a behavior problem.” - Mulder “Yeah, he doesn't listen and he chews on the furniture.” - Scully, glancing at Mulder

Inside Karin’s house, Mulder’s random touch and Scully’s shiver in reaction. Reminiscent of his two-handed touch in “Arcadia” - is that done deliberately? Scully doesn’t seem uncomfortable, but shivers in reaction, as if she definitely enjoys it. Oof. Things are REALLY good between them.

Scully Being Territorial, Exhibit Number 1:

“How is it that you know so much about her but you don't know what she looks like?” - Scully “I never actually met her.” - Mulder “But you assume that she's going to help us?” - Scully “No, actually, it's not an assumption. Her expression when Karin shows up, and calling her “wolfwoman”. (Recognize this? She made a similar face in “Syzygy”.)

Karin’s “Classic dominant alpha territorial behaviour” when talking about the police officer being killed.

By contrast, Scully doesn’t need to be aggressive or violent to assert her dominance - just needs to exist. ❤️

Scully Being Territorial, Exhibit Number 4:

Mulder touching Karin’s hand on the computer mouse. Scully notices, shoots Mulder a sharp look. She immediately starts questioning Karin’s ideas. Her EXPRESSION. She thinks she’s figured Karin out, that she is attracted to Mulder, and she’s not going to let her get away with anything. It’s not only possessiveness but protectiveness. She only recently got Mulder away from the clutches of Diana, and she knows how vulnerable he is to women that seem vulnerable themselves.

Scully Being Territorial, Exhibit Number 5:

In the car, Mulder knowing something’s wrong with Scully

Scully warning him: “She's enamored of you, Mulder. Don't underestimate a woman. They can be tricksters, too.” (I think this is also a veiled reference to Diana, that Mulder does NOT get, nor is he meant to.)

Mulder is gullible and oblivious when it comes to certain women, and Scully knows it!

Mulder gives her a curious look - thinks she’s jealous, perhaps?

Scully won’t tolerate anyone trying anything with Mulder, she’s fucking had it. After dealing with Diana so recently - no one else is going to try anything. She’s getting ahead of something before it develops. Mulder is empathetic with people who are different/loners (Oubliette/Mind’s Eye). He CAN be manipulated by a woman with a sad story.

Scully Being Territorial, Exhibit Number 6:

Going to see Karin alone, confronting her about her intentions with Mulder. Look at that lean forward.

Scully’s “With Mulder, you found somebody you could communicate with.... someone who challenged you... But that wasn't enough. You needed to lure him out here.”

She knows what having a special connection to him feels like!

Karin’s “I lack your feminine wiles.” (Which is hilarious, because when it comes to Mulder, Scully doesn’t have ANY of that manipulativeness that she implies.)

“I'm watching you.” - Scully “You watch... But you don't see.” - Karin

Perhaps Karin did mean to lure Mulder out here to meet him, and she does lie about the creature. HOWEVER...

Once she sees Mulder and Scully together, she abandons her ideas of deepening her relationship with him. She sees what everyone else does - that M&S are incredibly close, that their body language and glances to each other suggest that the only person in the room that matters to each other is them. Karin’s suggestion here (to the case I’m sure) is also a reference to what Scully can’t see is right in front of her - that there’s no reason for her to be territorial because Mulder only has eyes for her.

I also believe Mulder would have mentioned Scully to Karin. She’s such an integral part of his life. Once Scully shows up, things “click” for her, she understands that she has no chance.

Mulder trusts Scully’s judgement, goes to see Karin for himself and asks about being misled. (This is a pretty big deal.)

Karin - she loves Mulder, in her way. He's a kindred spirit, like Scully says, the only other human she knows that she actually likes. Once she realizes that he belongs to another, that he has someone who is a good person (based on how her dogs react to her) and will look out for him, she realizes what she needs to do to stop the animal - risk and (potentially) sacrifice herself. After lying to Mulder about what she thinks the animal will do next, and he goes to Scully, she LOOKS AT THE “I WANT TO BELIEVE” POSTER. Did she choose to wrap it up and send it then? In essence, disconnecting herself from him, and giving him a gift as her last goodbye?

I love that Mulder calls Scully to the hospital so they can do the surveillance TOGETHER. ❤️ Mulder’s “You should take a load off. We might be here all night.”

Scully’s “So, what is he going to do? Walk in here, skitter across the linoleum and pee in the corners?” is so cute. And Mulder loves it when she jokes. Like I said earlier, they are in a good place again.

Scully Being Territorial, Exhibit Number 7:

“Mulder, the only thing Karin Berquist is interested in is you.” - Scully, to which Mulder seems bashful about it. He’s so oblivious about women being interested in him. It’s adorable.

When Scully takes his magazine she sits a bit further from him than normal. She’s uncomfortable with her jealousy, tries to distance herself from it’s source.

Of course Scully falls asleep. ❤️ I love how she can sleep anywhere. She’s SNORING (quietly) - IT’S SO CUTE I CAN’T EVEN--. 😭 He’s gazing at her while she sleeps, then wakes her gently with the magazine. ❤️

At the ending, Scully’s tenderness about Mulder losing his friend is touching. The whole episode she was antagonistic towards Karin, thinking she had an ulterior motive, but in the end she did something altruistic. She was Mulder’s friend, and proved that in the end she wasn’t a bad person, at least in some ways. Scully knows he’ll blame himself, as well.

They have a really sweet interaction here. Scully making sure he’s okay, Mulder reassuring that he will be, talking about how he “believed her too quickly”. (He is a learning animal. Oh shit I made another corny joke, my b.)

The lamp is still aimed at the picture of them in the office. Like a fucking spotlight saying “THIS PLACE IS OURS.”

Scully Being Territorial, End Notes

I’m partially being silly when talking about this aspect of Scully’s personality, but I have to discuss a few things.

After the shit they’ve been through with Diana, I can’t blame Scully for overreacting and being protective of Mulder, not wanting to see him manipulated again.

That being said, this isn’t the first time she’s been possessive when it comes to him. I think it’s probably one of her flaws - she can get irrationally jealous when Mulder gets attention from another woman. It’s NOT just protectiveness but stems from her longing for something more with him, her fear that someone will swoop in and take the place in his life that she wants. I can empathize with that, I suffer from terrible jealousy sometimes myself (so perhaps this is a bit of self-projection, but hey, this is my analysis, so that’s what I see).

I absolutely love Scully, but I love that she seems like a real character, with flaws and eccentricities that truly make her unique.

Trinity: First Appearance

Since I haven’t posted many longer excerpts from Rebel Blue, I thought I’d post this short story introducing my boy Trinity and his complicated relationship with the crew of Rebel Blue-- specifically Periwinkle.

A bit of background-- Trinity was originally intended to be a one-off or minor character, and actually started off as a sort of pseudo-villain, working for Fate (the series’ main villain.) This is the first piece I wrote for him, edited and updated to fit his character now.

Trinity now features in Babylon, a several-novels-length offshoot of Rebel Blue’s main story written by myself and @charlottedotexe. His eventual slow-burn romance with Azure was a total surprise, and has lead to me developing this one-off villain into someone I really love! While Trinity still takes some time to be a truly good person, he was always meant to draw the line somewhere, and I think this piece illustrates that really well.

“So… I guess I’ve just seen her around here a couple of times, and I wanted to let her know that I… even exist?” Trinity chuckled self deprecatingly, rubbing the back of his neck with an embarrassed look on his face. Felicia cooed and wiggled around slightly from her position on his lap, reaching up to pinch his cheek.

“Awww, look at little Ty growing up. You’ve been coming here for years, and a pretty girl finally caught your eye? I’m almost jealous.” She giggled as he playfully smacked her hand away. “Tell me about her, then.”

“Well…” Trinity paused, casting his thoughts back to the woman he’d seen in the security footage. He had, in fact, seen her here at Absolute Zero before, but never close enough to describe. All he knew about her was that she usually sat up near the front, always by herself, or chatting with the bartender or even the owner rather than other patrons. Still, the auburn hair and striking height were hard to forget, and really the only reasons he’d recognized her on that recording. The fact she knew the workers here was good, but she was so often alone. It worried him, if he was being honest. Anyone in his position knew loners were the easiest targets. But Felicia was still waiting for him to answer. He let his eyes go a bit far away and misty as he leaned back in the plush booth, a lovestruck smile coloring his face. “She’s real tall. And pretty. Her hair’s long and wavy, it’s… brown? Maybe red. She always dresses so nice. She sounds like maybe she’s British, or from one of their colony planets. I’ve seen her a couple times, but… I never worked up the courage to buy her a drink.”

Beneath his field of vision, Felicia’s eyes narrowed for just a moment. Only a moment, though, and then she returned to her teasing smile, eyes flashing mischievously. “Sounds like someone’s smitten. Why don’t you go talk to her yourself, lover boy? Put that pretty face to good use. If she says no to that, she clearly doesn’t deserve you.” She leaned into him, adding a bit of real encouragement into her tone and ignoring the urge to mix pronouns and risk tipping Ty off that she knew his target as more than just another patron. She wanted his guard down, for one thing, and on the off chance he was telling the truth, maybe she could get him to prove it and actually talk to her in person. But he shook his head, and despite that bashful look on his face as he did it, Felicia’s suspicions were back full force.

“Nah, I can’t do that. What if she’d rather be alone? I don’t wanna force her into anything. I was thinking you girls could get her a note, buy her a drink on me next time she comes in? The ball’s in her court that way.” He shrugs. “If she ignores it, at least I tried, huh?”

As if anyone could force that person into anything. That alone proved he was lying… or that he honestly knew nothing about the person of which he spoke. But there was protocol to follow here, and Felicia was a professional before all else. Sure, Ty had never been anything but respectful and sweet, but almost everyone working here had learned the hard way that sweet things hid poison better than sour.

“Such a dear.” She ruffled his hair, and slid languidly off his lap, trailing her fingers down his neck and shoulder as she pulled away. “Alright, but you know I’ll tell the other girls. Your reputation as a hot-shot lady killer is in danger.” Her voice remained light and flirty, but the warning was real. Unless he changed his tune now, this was going straight to the top.

Trinity laughed, waving a hand at her. “Ah, go ahead. You all call me ‘little Ty’ anyway, it’s not like my reputation here was tough-as-nails in the first place.” Unconsciously, he rubbed a hand along his thigh, feeling for the tiny cybernetic attachment he already knew was there. He’d been around the block enough to know what this bar really was, and to notice that subtle warning from Felicia. That little note of his wouldn’t be staying secret for long, and they both knew it. In an establishment like this, information trade always passed through the top of the pyramid before being sent along to its target. He didn’t know much about the manager here, but he did know it was dangerous to pass information this way, especially in his position. Who knew what his boss would do to him if he found out about this interference. Still, Trinity couldn’t let this slide. He had to warn that poor woman, without doing anything to actively help her. This was the best chance he had.

Felicia giggled, using the charade to cover a disappointed sigh. Well, his loss. “You could at least pretend to be upset. You’re abandoning us for romance, Etta’s gonna be crushed.” She gave him one of her patented cute pouts, to which he responded with a good natured eye roll. “Well, I’m gonna go see some customers that aren’t too distracted by their mystery girl to appreciate me. You know where to send that note of yours, yeah?” 

“Course I do. Thanks, ‘Licia.” Trinity’s eyes trailed her as she made her way back up to the bar. When she disappeared through a door behind the counter, he leaned forward in his booth, pulling the displaced table back towards him and resting his elbows on it. He let the casual, goofy persona of “Ty” slip away, face turning serious as he considered his task. How did you warn a woman about one of the world’s most dangerous men-- without drawing his attention yourself?

    “You can stop laughing now.”

    A few moments passed as the person Siren was calling caught their breath, letting out an almost musical falling sigh. Their posh, accented voice, something like old Terran British, was still tinged with laughter. “Sorry, darling, but this one really takes the cake, I think. Either he somehow hired someone with a conscience, or this is his worst plan yet.” A second voice on the same end of the voice call broke its silence with a snort.

    “Yeah, Si. I don’t want to make light of another one of these attempts, but… they happen almost every time we go planetside. And I’m not gonna lie, this one was pretty funny.”

    “Stalking is quite the word for it, though,” the first mused. “I think my favorite part is when he insinuates I should leave the planet to avoid this ‘stalker.’ For my own safety, of course, nothing to do with the job I’m working on. What do you think, Cadet?” 

    Before the second person could respond, Siren interrupted with a soft clearing of her throat. “Perry--”

    “I know.” The humor had disappeared from his voice. “I take this sort of thing very seriously, especially considering he’s gotten your operation involved this time. Is everyone cleared out?”

    “Nearly. We don’t want to make the patrons too suspicious, so the rest will report to secure locations after the mole has left. I’m sending an agent out with him, one of his favorites, so it’s nothing unusual for either of them. She can probably hold him on her own, although--”

    “I’ll go,” Cadet interjected, beating Siren to the punch. “No need for Perry to get too close to the creep, that way.” Perry sighed.

    “I suppose it doesn’t matter if I say that’s unnecessary?” 

    “Look, I know you could take him down, but all his boss’ tricks are focused on you. They won’t work as well on me or Si’s agent, and that way you’re free to focus on questioning him. It’s why we’re in a team, Per.” She added a bit of teasing to her tone, and Perry responded with a slightly begrudging hum of assent. Hearing that, Siren continued.

    “Alright, if you’re both set, I’ll ready my agent and wait for your signal. We have two hours. Be safe.” The weight of the last two words seemed somehow directed at both her listeners at once, but with a different meaning for each. Cadet echoed Siren’s unspoken message to her, pressing her fingers to her lips for a moment in a gesture she knew her wife would mimic without even needing to see her. 

    “Love you too, Si.”

    Perry said nothing. Siren’s meaning for her was something she already knew. They also knew they’d disregard it in a second if it meant keeping that bar standing. With a click, the line disconnected, and the clock began to tick.

    Trinity hoped he was hiding his nervousness alright. He still hadn’t heard anything back from the woman about his message, but today his sensor had picked up new security footage of her. Recent footage, from just hours ago. His boss definitely had it by now, and it meant she definitely hadn’t left the planet. In fact, she seemed to have moved in even closer. So even though there was a chance it’d get him caught, Trinity was back at Absolute Zero. Felicia had even bent the rules a bit and bought him a drink, although he’d been careful to filter out the alcohol through his cybernetics as he drank. He couldn’t afford to be compromised. He tried to pay attention to Felicia’s attempts to cheer him up, but her reassurance that he could talk to his “mystery girl” in person next time she came in didn’t help much. What would he say if she did? And if she didn’t, would he just have to give up? Maybe it wasn’t any of his business, anyway.

    “What’s that?”

    Felicia’s voice jerked him out of his thoughts, and he realized he’d muttered that last bit aloud. “Oh… I mean, I just don’t know if I should get involved in her business anyway. I did say she could ignore me if she wanted. Why can’t I just get over it?” He let his arms slide down across the table in front of him, laying his head on them pitifully. 

    “Aw, Ty. It’s not even for sure yet, and you’re getting all heartbroken?” A flicker of blue registered in the corner of Felicia’s vision, and she surreptitiously glanced down at her right hand where it rested on Trinity’s back, firmly out his sight. Sure enough, the tiny chip embedded in her thumbnail flashed once, twice, and then faded. She tapped the nail twice with her forefinger-- message received-- then slapped Trinity on the back playfully and stood up. “Alright, that’s enough alcohol and self pity for you, babe. We’re going for a walk.”

“Really, now? But--” 

“It’s my job to cheer you up, and that’s not gonna happen if you’re just sitting around here moping. Come on, I know you love Andromeda Park this time of night, we haven’t been in days since you’ve been pining like this.” She leaned in, tucking her arm through his and pulling him out of his chair with strength that would have been surprising if he hadn’t seen it in action so many times before. With a sigh, he allowed her to lead him through the bar and out into the mild night air. They walked slowly, turning down familiar alleys towards the park. Trinity let Felicia’s arm slip from his as he walked, turning a contemplative gaze up to the sky. The slight wind against his face did seem to clear his head a bit. Perhaps she was right, and this really would give him some time to think things through--

Without warning, his right arm was twisted behind his back. Just as he started to struggle, a second pair of hands, these ones gloved, grabbed his other arm and the back of his head in a steely grip, pushing him to his knees and holding his head forward so he couldn’t see his attackers. Trinity swore, cursing himself for being so distracted. Even his cybernetics were no help if he didn’t have line of sight, or at least a hand free to activate the taser function from the port on his thigh. He knew better than to try and speak, let alone yell for help, given the almost unnaturally strong fingers pressing into the base of his skull right where it met his neck. Held like this, he could do nothing but stare down the shadowed stone alley in front of him, waiting to see what would become of him.

A shadow moved at the end of the alley. Moonlight flashed off of a cascade of shining red fabric, shifting to reveal a smooth expanse of pale thigh… and the matte black hilt of a knife, placed just so it would remain concealed beneath the fabric until the wielder chose to reveal it. As the figure took one more slow step forward, new details revealed themselves to Trinity one by one, his brain registering each as if in slow motion. His eyes traced up from the knife… a long way up. The curve of a hip, clad in red. Wrists and neck free of jewelry or adornment, save a thin black metal band tight around one wrist, leaving nothing that could be caught or grabbed. And finally, a curl of auburn hair caught the moonlight like silk, tumbling loose over one bare shoulder. 

“Fuck.” It came out as almost a whisper, his voice cracking a bit, and he cleared his throat. It was an affectation, of course. It was safest to keep trying to sound like Ty, well meaning if a touch dim, though it was tempting to drop character and coldly insist to be allowed to explain himself. “Guess I didn’t need to worry after all.”

Trinity’s mystery woman chuckled slightly, but there was no humor in the sound. She kept her face obscured in shadow— honestly a good move on her part, since with a clear view Trinity could at least try to activate his eye— and tossed her hair back almost contemptuously. “Please. I know why you’re really here. Do you?”

“Do I— of course I know why I’m here!” Because you’re too soft to survive, his brain supplied, unhelpfully. Whenever he was in danger like this, that internal voice sounded uncomfortably like the velvety tones of his employer. You’ll walk right into a death trap if you think you’re defending a defenseless woman from assault, it whispered, but he ignored it, setting his jaw. Defenseless or not, he still stood by his original plan. No one had the defenses to stand up to Fate— the addition of the Jericho company had only made that fact more stark in his mind. He gave up on keeping character. It was easier to be convincing if he truly wasn’t lying to her. He relaxed slightly despite the arms holding him down. Ty might struggle when outnumbered, but Trinity knew better. His words were his most powerful weapon. “Look.” His voice was more even than before, his word choice more eloquent. “I don’t know who you are, and I’ll be the first to admit that I underestimated you, but please at least hear me out. The man I’m talking about is… truly dangerous. It isn’t this job alone, he’s—“

“So you’re one of those.” She smirked slightly, lowering her voice for a moment. “Azzy owes me 10 cred, she thought you were one of the less stupid ones. You really think you’re the one who came up with this plan?”

Trinity opened his mouth to tell her that in fact, he had, but the woman held out a finger and the hand on the back of his neck tightened almost imperceptibly. He closed it again. 

“Let’s see if I can predict this story. You’re new still, so you’re trailing his footsteps like a little puppy, trying to learn all you can. He can do anything, after all, open and shut. You want that kind of power, so you do whatever he says. Until suddenly a simple job starts dragging on far longer than it should.” She tapped a finger to her lips in a gesture of vaguely mocking consternation. “How can this be? It doesn’t make sense, until one day he just so happens to let something slip to you. An accident, of course. A bit of footage, or a location, or maybe some sad poetry fragment he’s written on the back of a lipstick stained napkin.” Her words grew more and more sarcastic. “You, being the charitable type of power hungry pup, are worried for this poor unknown woman’s safety.” The oddly bitter emphasis on the word woman threw him for a moment, but she moved on before he could puzzle it out. “So you track her down, leaving a sweet little trail of breadcrumbs along with your warning— but it’s alright, it’s all behind his back! And you can go back home to your war profiteering and dirty money, content in your own altruism. Does that sound about right?”

Trinity just gaped at her for a moment before pulling his thoughts together. “Listen to me. I truly don’t enjoy seeing a woman in danger—” She frowned, cutting him off.

“Not a woman, but continue. I’m curious to hear your side.” The tone was biting, and the odd emphasis before suddenly made a lot more sense.

“Oh. My apologies, I assumed.”

“I noticed. Most do. Continue.”

“Right.” He pursed his lips. “Well. Moving past the sheer amount of sarcastic bullshit in your little story, I believe you have the bones of the issue. I won’t argue with you on your assessment of my character, but there’s one thing you’ve missed.”

“And what is that?” To his surprise, they sounded genuinely interested. He filed away that tidbit for later.

“He didn’t ‘let something slip’ to me. I don’t act on things I’ve simply stumbled upon.”

“Please. You think you’re the first to believe you got your information on me genuinely? Of your own merit? With the amount of stock you seem to put in his abilities, that seems rather conceited of you.” They sighed, almost seeming to deflate a bit from that perfectly poised stance. “He knows you’re here, and he knows I’m here. And if that establishment is destroyed tonight along with the livelihood of all who work there, it’s on you.”

Trinity flinched slightly at the accusation, but kept his gaze level. “He does not know that I’m here. I swear that.”

The figure pinched the bridge of their nose. “After all of this, that’s the hill you’re dying on?”

A rough sigh came from Trinity’s left side, and the hand on his neck tightened again as one of his captors finally spoke in a low, slightly gravelly voice he didn’t recognize. “We can’t keep dragging this out, Per. Two minutes, then you gotta call it.”

“I know.” They ran the hand that had been pinching their nose back through their hair, and took a half step forward. “Ok, then. What makes you so sure?”

Trinity bit the inside of his lip, the way he did when he didn’t want people to see him sweat. This was getting dangerous, in more ways than one. The longer this went on, the more likely it became that his boss would find out somehow, and this person was right— anything that happened would be on him. If he didn’t say something soon to convince them, he had no doubt they could have him killed or detained as quickly as they had subdued him in the first place. But the only way to prove what he knew was true was to reveal something he’d managed to keep secret for four years, now. Two minutes. It’d probably be less if the hand on his neck had anything to say about it, so he didn’t exactly have much time to come up with a better plan. Fuck it, if he was dead either way he might as well die knowing he was in the right.

“I’m sure because the way I saw it was with my cybernetic eye that two people in the entire galaxy even knew existed... until just now. It’s one of a kind. You were right, I have been watching him. It’s the best way to learn. So I planted my sensor in his office, and watched him creep on security footage of you alone in there for hours when he thought no one could see. That’s no convenient slip up.” He didn’t bother to disguise the disgust in his voice. He respected the man, but this was one thing he couldn’t abide.

“Cybernetics…” They lifted their wrist to their mouth to speak. That black band must be some kind of communication device. “Azure. Is that possible?”

There was a pause as they listened to some response Trinity couldn’t hear, then their gaze slowly panned back to him, staring him down like a hawk to a rabbit.

“Secret, one of a kind cybernetics. An interesting story, but not an easy one to make up on the fly. Either you’re a far better liar than you seem and have been completely in on his plans from the beginning, or…”

“He’s telling the truth.”

Oh. So that’s where Felicia has gotten to. In the heat of the moment he hadn’t really thought about that until he heard her voice from his right side— his other captor. Wonderful.

“You know about this?”

“I knew his eye was cybernetic. He played it like a fancy prosthetic, but that’d make sense if it’s one of a kind. What he’s saying isn’t impossible, and he’s a regular. I know when he’s lying.” The red clad figure nodded slowly, processing Felicia’s endorsement.

“I trust you to do your job.” Even while they spoke with Felicia, they still hadn’t broken that piercing gaze, focusing on Trinity. “Well. I suppose you’re a first, then. In that case, take this advice.” Their weight shifted slightly, and Trinity could almost feel the danger radiating from them. The energy was spine-chillingly similar to the danger that Fate projected just by entering a room, a mirrored twin. “Know that I know far more about your employer and his abilities than you do. I can’t stop you from going back to him, and you can’t stop me from ruining this lovely, easy job you’re trying to finish up.” They spoke with perfect confidence, without a hint of conceit. “He and his other lap dogs will continue to pull this kind of shite, it’s a given. But if you ever try to track me down again, you will die. Are we clear?”

“Crystal.” Trinity narrowed his eyes. “And so we’re clear on one more thing— I’d never bring harm to this place. It’s been as much a home to me as anywhere.”

The grip on his left arm and neck loosened, and he felt his unknown captor shift to stand next to him. “Four, hold him till we give the all clear. Then Siren says protocol’s down to your discretion.”

“Got it.” Felicia took over the grapple, pushing him further to the ground. His cheek pressed up against the pavement, the craned position of his head and neck keeping him from seeing anything but a sliver of wall in front of him. He sighed, listening to the thud of two sets of heavy boots as they faded down the alley and into the sounds of the night.

“...Four, huh?”

“You’ve been a regular long enough. In your line of business, you suspected. Just like I suspected ‘Ty’ was a front.” Felicia’s voice was much more matter of fact than he was used to. “It’s a useful place, and you can play all sides, but there’s always priority one.”

“I get it. I could’ve put the place in danger.”

“It’s home for a lot more than you.”

“I know. I was telling the truth, but if I can’t come back—“

“That’s up to me.” Felicia glanced down at her thumbnail as the tiny chip flashed again. All clear. She lightly moved off of him, releasing his arm from the position she’d held it in twisted behind his back, and Trinity could see a compact blaster in her palm. She flicked her wrist, and it disappeared. “I say you can, if you can take it for what it is.”

“Just a bar. People gossip and flirt and trade information. It’s a good place to land at the end of a day.” He shrugged, rubbing his shoulder. “You could have dislocated that, you know?” 

“Fair enough.” She ignored his last comment, and tapped her nail twice to acknowledge. “Maybe I’ll see you again then, Ty.” The name was a promise in its own way— he could keep his cover if she could keep hers. “Stay out of trouble.” 

With that, she turned and began walking purposefully back towards Absolute Zero, leaving Trinity alone in the alley to nurse his bruised shoulder and pride.

Steins;Gate: My Darling’s Embrace Part 6 - Mayuri Route (Stardust Duplet)

Hahahaha, I love how they were discussing the idea for a new gadget to sell to pay for their exorbitant electricity bills and Mayushii suggests a robot Mayushii, and then later she brings a doll with a voice recording of herself saying "Tutturu🎵" loll, it's so cute. Aww, she gave it to Okabe, lmao at Kurisu telling him to hold it to sleep hahaha. I find it hilarious how the game let's you scroll up and down to look at each of the girl's swimsuits properly hahaha. As usual, I think Kurisu looks the best, I don't like Mayushii and her hat with the bikini swimsuit tbh haha. Faris looked all right but nothing special~ It was pretty cute how Okabe couldn't stop staring at Mayushii though hahaha. Aww he lent her his shorts to cover up since she was so embarrassed hahaha, they're so adorable~ Okay, the swimsuits look much better without the jackets hahaha. Awww I loved how cute Mayushii and Okabe were when they played in the water together, I just feel like there's always this nice childlike sweetness to their relationship that Okabe only shares with her, so it's always heartwarming to see. I love how Mayushii taught him how to swim properly, it's rare for him to actually learn something from her so it's fun to see that. Lmao at them playing volleyball and Faris used Daru as a shield🤣

I honestly teared up when Mayuri cried. She saved Okabe from drowning (when he was being silly) but she got so scared that he was actually going to die🥺🥺 I could feel her emotions, Okabe is always so reckless, he's lucky Mayuri watches him closely and knows when he's in trouble. I found it really cool that Mayuri saved him (even though it was expected that she would), since it's nice to contrast it with how Okabe kept trying his best to save her in the original game. Lmaoo I love all the new messages Mayuri added to Robo-Mayushii, it's hilarious how she tells Okabe silly things through it, like telling him to brush his teeth before he sleeps hahaha, but it's so sweet as well, especially since she spent so much time on it, she didn't have enough time to finish her costumes for ComiMa by the first day, we all know how important ComiMa is to her and Daru, so it's sweet to see indirectly as well how much she cares about Okabe. Mayuri is such a pure soul, she was thinking about doing the modelling job Moeka's boss wanted her to do just so she can be of use to the lab/Okabe and help pay off their electricity bill🥺🥺 Why does she warm my heart so much🥺 It was obvious that Mayuri would end up taking the modelling job after all, but it's kinda cute how Okabe joined in too hahaha. The CG of Mayuri and Okabe looking at the Christmas tree together was so nice~ I loved how Mayuri had so much fun taking photos with her Okarin, it was so sweet to see. It's funny how oblivious Okabe is towards Mayuri's feelings but it wouldn't be Okabe if he realised stuff like this, in this game anyway lol. I also loved how he wanted to buy her the star on top of the tree because she kept staring at it hahaha.

It was so funny when Mayuri told Okabe to go to sleep again so she could do the anime cliche thing where the MC's childhood friend goes into their room to tell them to wake up, since when she came to wake him up, he was on the floor (from the shock of his dream about a flirty Mayuri lmao). Wow, Mayuri is so comfortable with Okabe, she's even willing to do his dirty laundry and stuff like dang, my waifu~ lmaooo at Rintaro's dad telling Mayuri to just marry his son and move in with them (since her parents are moving but she's staying here for school and will have to move in with her aunt). HAHAHA, I loved how Mayuri was so into being a grocer (since Okabe's house is a grocery store) when they tended to the shop together. Aww why did she cry looking at Okabe?! Anyway, I loved how when the lab members saw how good the photos were, especially of Okabe, they were so shocked, and even Daru felt betrayed because he thought Okabe was the same breed as him lmaooo. On another note, lmao at Faris thinking Kurisu's name was actually Christina and thought she was part American or something hahahaha. I honestly didn't think Mayuri was actually moving and that's why she cried! I'm glad everyone told Okabe to properly think about his feelings towards Mayuri and stop thinking she's still a kid, I'm also glad that he's properly chasing after her knowing that he's always thought that she would stay by his side forever but now that it might not be so, he wants to tell her that he wants her to stay here with him. It was so sad and sweet when Okabe realised why Mayuri was so insistent on finishing Robo-Mayushii so fast, since she knew she wouldn't be with him for much longer but still wanted to support him, she's the best🥺🥺🥺 OMGGG, Okabe's confession of love, Mayuri honestly telling him that she thought he could live without her especially since he's so close with Kurisu, him giving her the Christmas tree star and in front of her grandmother's grave too, everything was just so perfect!!!! Like, I read somewhere where people praised Mayuri's route for being the best but omg, it's so good, I feel like their relationship throughout the route was so natural and sweet, it honestly felt much better than the main game Mayuri route hahaha. Lmaooo when Mayuri was taught by Kurisu that kisses should be done on the third date hahahah, it's kinda funny how they ended up kissing three times hahaha, but I loved how Mayuri first initiated it and then Okabe did for the last two times, it was so cuteeee, my heart is so full and warm. I love Mayuri and Okabe🥺🥺🥺 I love how they went to Mayuri's parents together and asked for her to stay in Tokyo, it was so cool to see how resolute Mayuri was knowing that it was a selfish decision but she really didn't want to leave🥺 they’re so young and beautiful~

Awww so cute how Suzuha gave Okabe tips on how to win the metal upa in the shooting game at the festival for Mayuri hahaha. Too bad he couldn’t get it lolll. Anyway, I just love how compared to other routes, Okabe is so honest and forthright with his feelings, it's like Mayuri was the one who was able to draw that part out of him haha. It was so funny how when Mayuri was late and they thought she wouldn't be able to stay in Tokyo, so Luka told him to draw fortunes for good luck and Okabe got bad luck, so Luka said he should draw again because their fortunes are inaccurate hahahah, Luka is so silly but kind. HAHAHA, I love how Okabe misunderstood thinking Mayuri told her parents that she would live with Okabe after high school graduation to not inconvenience her aunt when she actually told them she would live at the lab lmaooo, it was so cute though, he practically proposed to her again hahaha. And yes I forgot to say but I loved how he "proposed" to her at her grandmother's grave before saying he wants her to be his hostage until they die haha. Anyway, Okabe trying to run away with Mayuri in embarrassment as everyone congratulates them in their "marriage" is just hilarious and awesome, I loved every bit of it hahahah.

Overall, Mayuri's route is definitely the best route and probably the only one worth my money LOL. As I've already said, Mayuri and Okabe's relationship was very natural and sweet in this route and I think this was the only route that did what I wanted this game to do, which was give each girl a proper route without all the baggage about the world, timelines and everything in the original game so that they can all have a normal happy ending, which I feel like only Mayuri's route showed that, and maybe Faris. What I liked most about Mayuri's route is that they both properly showed their love for each other without having to rely on the fact that they were childhood friends and instead they developed it from that, which I really appreciated. It also really helps that Mayuri's VA Hanazawa Kana is amazing at portraying emotions through her voice, I really wanted to cry whenever Mayuri cried😭 Honestly, even if this game only had Mayuri's route I would be satisfied lmao.

Overall Review: 6/10 b/c of Kurisu & Mayuri

Anyway, I have to admit though, the only route really worth playing is Mayuri's and maybe Faris for the all the maid interactions loll. The rest are okay but honestly, Suzuha's one is pretty terrible and I just felt bad for Luka in his route even though I was happy that Luka kindaaa got through to him? Lol. Kurisu and Moeka's routes I was pretty apathetic about because they weren't terrible but they weren't good either. The funny thing is that Kurisu was pretty annoying in her own route, but she was honestly the best girl in all the other girl's routes lmaoo (aside from Mayuri's of course), she was such a highlight with her banter in them all that I absolutely loved her presence in each one hahaha, she was that enjoyable to watch. Overall, I'd say the game is worth buying if you love Mayuri LOL, because that was the only good romance route, the rest were pretty meh, and I have to mention, it's so weird how in every other route the romance doesn't really end with them together (aside from Luka but that one was kinda weird), it's only Mayuri's that it's very clear cut that Okabe got together with her lol, like c'mon!! I love Mayuri but it's really unfair to the other girls lol. Oh well though, I'm glad I got to finish the game off with a blast because now I can't stop thinking about how cute Okabe and Mayuri were~~~

The coffee maker slowly filled Logan's Stormtrooper mug. He'd woken up a few minutes ago and hadn't even dressed properly. He was clad in a Star Wars T-shirt, pajama pants with tiny R2-D2's printed on them, and fuzzy Chewbacca house slippers. Typically, Logan wouldn't wear such...  unusual attire outside of his room, but today was special, today was May the 4th.

Patton walked into the kitchen wearing a shirt with a kitten, paw-print pajama pants, and fuzzy unicorn house slippers. "Morning, Lo!" He smiled, flushing slightly at seeing the other dressed so casually, "I like your PJs!"

"Thank you, Patton, May the 4th be with you," Logan greeted.

"Huh?" Patton looked confused.

"It's a play on 'may the force be with you'," Logan stated plainly.

"Ooh, this is one of those Star Wars things, right? Also, I love that you're participating in a pun holiday, Logan!"

Logan sighed slightly, smiling unnoticeably. Ever since he'd began to develop a crush on the fatherly trait he found himself enjoying puns more and more, "Puns aside, Patton... have you,, seen the Star Wars movies?"

Patton thought for a moment, "I don't think so, I just never got around to it."

Logan's jaw dropped, "Never?"

Patton shrugged, "Guess not."

"Patton, I will not stand for this."

"Then maybe you should take a seat!"

Logan rolled his eyes with a hint of a fondness, "You know what? I will take a seat... with you, in my room, with all 6 of the Star Wars movies."

Patton smiled at the idea of spending more time with Logan, "I thought there were 9 movies though?"

"We don't count the prequels, and the new movies are good, no matter what others say, including Rogue One."

Patton chuckled at how passionate Logan was on the subject, "Alright, Han SoLo... GAN!" Patton laughed at his own joke.

Patton's pun combined with his outburst of laughter made a blush spread across Logan's face. He couldn't help how flustered he got when Patton looked so adorable, but he willed himself to hide the pinkness.

After they ate breakfast together, popcorn was made, and they settled into the comfort of Logan's Star-Wars themed bedsheets. They sat under the covers, not quite snuggled together, but with their legs touching.

As they observed the previews for movies long-since released, Patton spoke up, "I'm glad you're introducing me to these movies, Logan!" he beamed at the other.

Fortunately when Logan blushed from Patton's adorable smile, it was mostly hidden by the dimmed lights and drawn blinds (for the movie theatre effect), "Of course, I'm a fan of the movies and I feel that you will enjoy them too."

"I'm just glad you're here to watch them with me! That way I don't have to watch them... solo!" Patton laughed again.

Logan threw his head back in mock annoyance, but in truth, he was trying to hide the smile that crept onto his face from Patton's humor.

"You sure do like Han Solo, don't you? You've already made two puns about him and you haven't even seen the movies yet," Logan pointed out, amused.

"Well, Harrison Ford is such a sweetheart and he's just so cute! Who's your favorite character, Lo?"

"While I appreciate each character's importance to the series, I'd have to say my favorite is Princess Leia. She's royalty, she kicks butt when she fights, her ambition is admirable, she's incredibly intelligent, and she knows how to get what she wants. I could write a whole essay about the reasons why I love her- and Carrie Fisher, may she rest in peace."

Patton nodded sympathetically, remembering the loss of our princess, Carrie Fisher, "Well, maybe I can be the Patton Leia to your Han SoLogan!" Patton smiled, trying to lighten the mood.

Logan blushed at the romantic implication, "Um,, yes. I believe I would like that very much," Logan couldn't help but smile, could his crush actually want to be in a relationship with him?

Patton giggled, "Yay! I still don't know that much about the movies, but from what I've seen they're such good besties! And I'm glad you want us to be besties like they are!" he smiled and focused his attention on the tv screen, still showing previews.

Logan's face reddened, it appeared Patton was not trying to start a romantic relationship with him, and Logan had just implied he would like to. Oh no. What would Patton think when he sees that Han Solo and Princess Leia are a couple? How would he react? Surely he would figure out Logan has a crush on him, would he still want to be friends after that?

Logan realized panicking was helping nothing, so he tried to take his mind off the subject and simply focus on the time he had left with Patton as friends before his feelings for the other were exposed.

The previews soon ended, and the sounds of the iconic theme filled Logan’s ears and calmed him, distracting from his worries.

By the time the kiss scene between Han and Leia arrived, Logan had forgotten about revealing his feelings, but the scene served as an unfriendly reminder, sending panic through his veins. Cautiously, he looked over at Patton, expecting the sight of him discomforted and awkward with the romantic development between Han and Leia being compared to his and Logan's friendship.

However, Patton was grinning at the screen and squealing, "Awww! That's so cute!!!"

Oh, thank goodness, Logan thought, he seems to have forgotten all about what I said earlier. He let out a breath, not noticeable to Patton though, and attempted to relax.

Though Logan wouldn't admit it to himself, he was slightly... disappointed. He hoped perhaps Patton would return his feelings and admire the unintentional Star-Wars related love confession, but he supposed it was for the best Patton didn't remember, helping him to avoid any possible heartbreak.

Logan shook his head subtly, pulling himself out of his thoughts and back to the movie.

Eventually came the scene where Leia kisses Luke, which greatly confused Patton, "I thought Leia liked Han? Why did she kiss Luke?"

"I believe it was to simply make Han jealous, I try not to read too much into the 'love triangle' some fans believe exist between Luke, Han, and Leia."

"Oh, okay," Patton turned his attention back to the screen, "Well don't spoil anything, but I hope Han and Leia get together! They'd be so cute!!!" Patton sighed dreamily.

Logan's face flushed again, not doing anything to acknowledge Patton's comment, both not to spoil anything and not to draw attention to how much he was blushing.

If Patton wanted Leia and Han to become a couple, did that mean he wanted he and Logan to become a couple? Logan had technically said he would like to be the "Han SoLogan" to Patton's "Patton Leia," so Patton knew Logan wasn't uncomfortable with the idea, but is this really what Patton meant?

Once again, Logan focused on the movie to distract himself from his own internal conflict.

"I love you."

"I know."

Tears spilled from Patton's eyes as the pair exchanged their last words before Han Solo was frozen in carbonite. Patton sobbed silently and leaned into Logan's chest.

Logan was slightly surprised at Patton's actions, but wrapped an arm around Patton nonetheless, attempting to comfort him.

Upon feeling Logan's embrace, Patton wrapped his arms around Logan's torso, burying his head further into Logan's chest and crying.

Though Logan was inexperienced with affection, he attempted to gently rub Patton's back, hoping this would calm him, he assumed it was working from the way Patton had stopped crying slightly and leaned into Logan's touch, smiling through tears as he was held in Logan's arm.

Logan was blushing madly, but grateful Patton couldn't see his face. He continued to hold Patton in his arms for as long as Patton seemed to be content.

Logan's mind raced as he tried to determine what this meant, Patton had initiated physical contact with him, (which is one of the 5 love languages, particularly one that Patton seemed to enjoy) and when Logan returned the physical touch, Patton encouraged him with non-verbal cues; moving closer.

So far everything seemed to be going well, but this wasn’t enough evidence for Logan to draw a clear conclusion. Rather than thinking about it over and over, Logan decided it’d be best to, once again, focus on the movie.

Leia and Han had just kissed after Leia explained she and Luke were siblings, and that she loved Han, and Patton, still cuddled close to Logan in his protective hold, squealed in delight, “That’s so sweet! They ended up together!!”

Logan blushed further, wrapping his arms around Patton slightly more as he was closer to him now. He glanced over at the clock, and upon seeing it was nearly noon, spoke up, “Patton, perhaps after this episode is over we should take a lunch break so that we can discuss,, um, the movies... together.”

Patton made a hum of agreement, “Sounds great, Lo!” he snuggled closer to the other trait, and the blush deepened on Logan’s face.

Logan began to mull over whether or not to bring up the subject of their friendship being compared to Princess Leia and Han Solo’s relationship during their marathon break. Eventually though, he decided it would be best to talk about it, rather than leaving the subject ignored and his questions unanswered forever, so for the rest of the movie, Logan thought about how to approach the subject, what he should say to Patton, what the chances were of him being rejected, and how to deal with the heartbreak.

When the movie finally ended, Patton smiled, sighing contently and lying his head on Logan’s chest, “Those were awesome, Lo! Thank you so much for introducing me to them! I can’t wait to see the rest!”

Logan chuckled, “Indeed,” his face was heating further from Patton’s new closeness, not that it was unwelcome.

Logan took a breath to steady himself, “Patton, I...” he trailed off, sure of what he had planned in his mind, but too nervous to say his words quite yet.

“Yeah?” Patton curiously asked.

“Um... perhaps we should make ourselves some lunch now,” Logan proceeded, removing his arm from its place around Patton and moving off the bed quickly.

Logan’s quick movements caused Patton to flop against the mattress, as he was practically lying on Logan. “Oh, yeah. Alrighty! Let’s go get us some food,” Patton smiled, covering up the slight disappointment he felt at no longer being held in Logan’s arms, cradled closely against his chest.

As they ate they discussed the movies Patton had seen so far, and their conversation continued back in Logan’s room as they sat across from each other on Logan’s bed, “Which non-human character was your favorite?”

“Oooh, that’s tough, I’d have to say Chewie ‘cause he’s just so cute and huggable!”

Logan nodded in agreement, “I admire his battle tactics and his loyalty to Han Solo," Logan paused, seeing his opportunity, "And um,, speaking of Han Solo...”

“Yeah?” Patton gazed at Logan with kind eyes.

“Um,, before the movies, you mentioned that... well, rather, you offered to be the, um, ‘Patton Leia’ to my ‘Han SoLogan,’ and,, I agreed,” Logan started, fidgeting nervously with his hands. “But, at the time you said this, you were under the impression their relationship was entirely platonic, and um, well, now that you’ve seen the movies and uh, know that their relationship was romantic...,” he sighed, “Uh, I suppose what I’m trying to say is...” Logan looked into Patton’s eyes with a glimmer of hope, overshadowed by fear, “Do you... still want me to be your,, Han SoLogan?”

A huge grin burst across Patton’s pink face as he eagerly nodded his head, “I would love for you to be my Han SoLogan!”

Logan let out a sigh of relief, grinning uncontrollably, “I’m happy to hear that Patton,” Logan hesitated for a moment before opening his arms, offering Patton a hug.

Patton’s eyes lit up before he tackle-hugged Logan, causing him to fall back onto his mattress. Patton shuffled so he was lying on top of Logan, arms wrapped around his neck as he nuzzled Logan’s chin, sighing contently.

After getting over the initial shock from the hug, Logan wrapped his arms around Patton’s torso, holding him protectively against his chest, smiling. Logan let the comfortable silence settle in around them before he spoke again, “Hey, Patton Leia?”

A soft giggle from Patton, “Yes, Han SoLogan?”

“I love you.”

Patton grinned again before replying, “I know.”

  FIRST IMPRESSIONS Otome Visual Novels are either a hit or a miss when it comes to it’s story narratives. Just like Collar x Malice, 7’scarlet did one hell of a job foregoing a very intriguing mystery-type plot line while having a few romantic events as an additive to its overarching deep story. Like a really good book or a TV series, it was so hard to brush off the game’s story build-up as it became curiously engaging in each chapter you progress.

With the help of it’s unique visuals and animations, playing 7’scarlet was close to watching your favorite anime series.

  ART One of the things I really enjoyed while playing 7’scarlet was seeing its astonishing BG images. It’s just so pretty, it’s like wallpaper material, no kidding! (giggle)

. The game’s artist was non other than, Kurahana Chinatsu an illustrator who’s also famous for her other popular works such as the character designs for Uta no Prince-Sama, Lamento (Beyond the Void), and Togainu no Chi.

  SOUNDTRACK AND VOICE ACTING There are two opening themes, “World’s End Syndrome” and “LOVESICK”, you can unlock the latter after finishing a certain route in the game. The BGMs are good too, some are rather simple but very fitting for the game’s setting and story transitions. Heck, I ended up buying the whole 7’scarlet soundtrack in iTunes.

And like any other game, there will always be that one song you’ll end up getting stuck with, even after completing  the game. Dat-one-song that gave you so much FEELS. In 7’scarlet, mine would have to be the song “Starry”.

Hino’s story was cute. It had very few spoilers regarding the game’s overarching plot but his route did a good job catering as a story build-up for the oncoming routes you’ll get in to after finishing the first two recommended ones (his and Isora’s). I enjoyed the fact that Hino was physically a jock on the outside but covertly the biggest dork on the inside

(the guy fangirls on ‘kawaii’ things! Awww). His romance ventured more into the friendship-type-love rather than a mature one. His route wasn’t my favorite, but it was definitely a good start, nevertheless.

Just like Hino’s route, Isora’s story offers very few spoilers of the game’s underlying plot but was well written enough to create a very mysterious atmosphere of the town, Okunezato. Isora’s character depth was also deeper than I expected and I wished the writers expounded more on the justification of this character’s actions rather than just throwing it on the spot. Despite this, I love Isora Amari’s story. It had great pacing, enough to give you that creep factor you seek in every mystery-themed visual novel. His romance, on the other hand may or may not suit everyone’s preferences. Although I personally enjoyed it, I can understand how it may not work for some. ┐(︶▽︶)┌

So my first impression with Toa was: “Really?! I have to romance this clumsy nerd, seriously, game?”. Then I started playing his route just to get it over with and oh my goodness! I did not expected the sudden turn of events! 

As I’ve probably mentioned repeatedly on my previous reviews… I absolutely love it when a game catches you off guard, and this route takes the cake! I was left speechless.  I couldn’t talk more about his story without going into spoiler territory so I’ll leave it at this: Toa was such a great character and he deserves all the love in the world! Best boy (imo), one that’s definitely unforgettable.

If there was one route that got me at the edge of my seat in 7’scarlet ~ it was definitely Sosuke’s. His story had great pacing where it started off very light and warm then surprisingly escalated into a few bemusing affairs. His route also introduced a more definitive and deeper story regarding the mysteries surrounding the town of Okunezato. While the suspense was a little overwhelming in this route, I wanted to commend on how the romance never took a back seat in Sosuke’s story. His relationship with the heroine felt genuinely real and I love both his and Ichiko’s character development. I also loved the fact that Sosuke was such a neat freak and becomes very obsessive-compulsive about something so simple such as a goldfish scooping game! The perfect husbando, if you ask me! (chuckles)

While the suspense was building up in Sosuke’s previous route, Yuzuki’s story on the other hand was a power house of thrill and drama coupled with a few action packed scenes and romantic events… And although it happened so fast, all at the same time, I’ve got to say it was paced really well that it didn’t came out too forced nor too overwhelming with information. I personally love Yuzuki’s character. He’s cold and irritable on the outside but inside his icy personality is one very warm fluffy husbando! 

 His story was probably the most compelling as far as solving the mysteries of Okunezato goes.

  Ichiko Hanamaki (You)

Despite the the main protagonist’s naivety and recklessness to a point where you’d clearly have to question this heroine’s sense of danger 

 (laughs), Ichiko Hanamaki had a couple of good points up her sleeve such as her strong will and determination to look for her disappeared older brother in spite of being absolutely clueless on where to begin. Another enjoyable aspect, was how this heroine sometimes gets shamelessly clumsy in declaring her love to the gentleman of her liking. She had a couple of funny moments that got me all “wtf lol” ~ so it was never a dull moment playing her as the MC. 

    And it gets better… So the story doesn’t really end there. After finishing Hino, Isora, Toa, Sosuke, and Yuzuki’s route. Two more routes unlocks in this game.

Who is the culprit?

Another factor why this game was so entertaining to me was that it reminded me of playing Mafiascum; where each player gets to accuse anybody as the culprit and the accused needs to present alibis to which another player/s confirms it to prove his innocence.

As someone who’s been playing mafiascum online for a long time, the game’s conclusion was somewhat predictable but I’ve got to admit, it was one gripping read and the “True Ending” was painfully heartbreaking.

  OVERALL THOUGHTS?

7’scarlet is a very well written mystery themed visual novel. While the story appeared so simple, the events where paced so good that the rise and fall of tension as you unravel the mysteries remained suspenseful enough to keep you wanting for more.

I had a couple of moments where I really couldn’t put down the game for a second just to eat or sleep because I had to know, I NEEED to know what will happen next!

Truth be told, I had never expected I’d get so emotionally attached to this game. It’s really one gripping read. It’s one of those titles that’s hard to get over with even after finishing the game play. I think an overall rating of 4.5/5 is an appropriate mark for 7’scarlet. The rest of the .05 completing the perfect score is just me wishing they could’ve done more with the last secret route as I did felt it to be a little lacking as far as how the story concluded.

I would say the animation and movie clips were an additional plus points. Although without it, the game still excels as one of the most compelling stories an otome game has to offer. Do I recommend this game? YESSSS! If you’re looking for a good mystery-romance themed visual novel with great art, music, animation and one unforgettable story that will rob you of words, 7’scarlet is the perfect choice. All your money’s worth it too.

Riverdale Season 5 Episode 4 Review – Chapter 80: Purgatorio

Riverdale reinvents itself as the fifth season properly gets underway.

“To be honest, it doesn’t even feel like Riverdale anymore.”

You can say that again Archie.

Following three episodes originally intended for last year and a seven-year time jump, Riverdale‘s fifth season gets well and truly underway with an installment designed not so much with shaking up the status quo but reinventing it completely. To borrow the name of a Flaming Lips song — you just know NYC writer’s block-stricken Jughead listens to lots of the band’s output — suddenly everything has changed.

In the near decade since he was last home, Archie has been through hell fighting in an unnamed conflict in which he feels responsible for one of his fellow soldiers losing a leg. He has dreams that mix battle imagery with the formally idyllic existence he had in high school. (At least that’s what I think we’re supposed to feel here, even though Archie’s teen years were fraught with bear attacks and attempted murders aplenty but I digress). The point being that Archie sees Riverdale, despite its obvious flaws, as a safe haven. Always one to embrace a cliche though, he quickly learns that you can’t go home again. Riverdale is now just as dangerous as his overseas battle. It wasn’t a nightmare he had, it was a premonition.

Ordered to run Riverdale High School’s ROTC program, Archie comes home is quickly brought up to speed by Toni — pregnant and running the reborn White Wyrm out of the former space of La Bonne Nuit. Lawlessness prevails throughout town, leaving Riverdale largely empty with the exception of those who are too poor or proud to try to restart elsewhere. The city is without hope. Mayhem reigns. Is Archie Batman now? God I hope so.

Responsible for the community’s downfall is, you guessed it, Hiram Lodge. Without the influence of Hermione or Veronica to keep his worst instincts in check, Hiram has become the villain he has always longed to be. (He’s enlisted Reggie to be his right hand man, making that character the closest to his pain-in-the-ass comic book counterpart to date). Some murky dialogue vaguely explains that Hiram’s wrongdoing is connected to his long-gestating SoDale real estate development, but the specifics don’t matter. What does is that Mr. Lodge is in power like never before, and all of Riverdale is suffering as a result.

Meanwhile at Quantico, FBI trainee Betty is also haunted by her recent past. While pursuing the hilariously named Trash Bag Killer, she didn’t wait for backup — becoming the killer’s captive before he escaped in the process. Her loving partner — let’s call him Molder for now, Mad magazine style — is worried that she isn’t dealing with the trauma of her experience, as is her therapist. But soon she too is called back home to deal with what we think is a crisis but is really just a very sweet thing. More on that in a few minutes.

We catch up with New Yorker Veronica, who is married to real estate tycoon Chadwick Gekko (Chris Mason, portraying a character from Katy Keene that Reid Prebenda originated). Apparently she used to be the “she wolf of Wall Street” until she lost her mojo after being involved in a near-fatal helicopter accident with Chad. Since then, she’s been secretly working in an upscale jewelry store that let’s her take advantage of the smart business acumen she frequently demonstrated during her high school years. But when she sells a Glamorege egg that Chadwick gave to her, it’s clear that their relationship is more than just a little fractured.

Also in the Big Apple is Jughead, and he’s just full on skeezy now. With dubious facial hair and a penchant for sleeping with fans, this version of Jughead is easily the most disturbing new version of one of the series’ core four. We learn that his first book, the S.E. Hinton meets Pop Tate’s Chok’lit Shoppe pastiche The Outcasts was a mega success that made him a fleeting media darling. But now Jughead has severe writer’s block…not to mention debt collectors literally pounding at his door and toxic boyfriend tendencies we see him display briefly. Basically he sucks. If anyone can use a priority realignment it’s him. Fortunately, he too gets a call beckoning him home.

Once the gang is back together in Riverdale, for Pop Tate’s retirement party!, awww, we get an update on Cheryl. She has successfully rebuilt Thornhill and rehabilitated the Blossom family name over the past seven years…with a cost. She still feels cursed by her family’s misdeeds and spurns Toni’s attempts to reconcile and instead chooses to live as a recluse. (I mean, for at least the remainder of this episode).

Finally reunited with all of friends, Archie is determined to enlist their help in saving the soul of Riverdale. Not that any of them seem too happy to join this crusade. But the episode doesn’t dwell on their responses as it is too busy establishing a new mystery — a murderous trucker is on the loose. And our heroes are the only one who can stop him. Obviously.

This episode is a very typical one in that it bombards the viewer with new information. True, it doesn’t feel like Riverdale as we know it, but that’s a good thing. After a previous season that was a bit middling, I am more than supportive of this quasi reboot happening here. The series has been renewed for a sixth season, so it’s likely that it will find it’s new rhythm over the course of the upcoming installments and a new normal will settle in. For now though, there’s a lot of possibility here. Riverdale‘s biggest mystery right now? Where it will go next.

Riverdale Roundup

• Along with Saving Private Ryan, the nightmare that starts this episode is also a reference to the excellent Archie 1941 miniseries — which explored how World War II impacted Riverdale and its characters.

• Since Archie and Betty are now both experiencing PTSD, will their shared trauma bond them together?

• I absolutely believe that each of these characters would return to Riverdale to bid farewell to Pop Tate, given how important his shop has been in each of their lives.

• Let’s hear it for more screen time for Vanessa Morgan’s Toni Topaz! Choni forever! (That baby bump was real by the way, she gave birth to her first child last week).

• Archie reads Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms, in case any of you were worried that the series’ fondness for anachronisms would be lost during the seven year time jump. Also, Archie being able to read is canon!

• Even though Katy Keene is long-cancelled, it’s nice to see that show’s title character (and her employer, Lacy’s) get referenced here.

• As an Archie comics diehard fan, I am incensed that the show has ditched his iconic whoopee hat. Yet I have a feeling by the time this season ends we will witness him throwing it back on in an effort to reclaim the artistic power that his former self possessed.

• Kevin and Fangs are established as still being together, with the former working at Riverdale High. Alice’s current whereabouts are unknown. I hope Vegas has been rehomed.

• In case Betty’s Silence of the Lambs parallels were a tad too understated for your taste, her therapist’s name is Dr. Starling. And if someone doesn’t sing “Goodbye Horses” this season I will be very upset.

• The FBI waited seven years to dismantle the two-person (one of whom wasn’t even a real agent) Riverdale field office? Actually, given government inefficiency, this sounds just about right.

• Veronica and Chadwick’s helicopter accident happened while they were on their way to “Marsha’s Vineyard,” because apparently Riverdale 2.0 now does fake places as well as brands.

• That abandoned doll Archie found in Pickens Park is super creepy.

• Betty’s cat is named Coffee, and given her history as a pet owner, I fear for the feline.

• Towards the end of this episode, new character Tabitha Tate (Erinn Westbrook) bids farewell to drifter Lynette “Squeaky” Fields. Given that Fields’ nickname is a Manson Family reference, could Riverdale have a death cult on its hands?

• Other mysteries raised by this episode: Who is the father of Toni’s baby? How will Veronica feel about La Bonne Nuit becoming a Serpent hangout? How long have Betty and her partner been together? Will Jughead get a razor? Who is the Lonely Highway killer? How did Reggie get involved with working for Hiram? What exactly are Hiram’s SoDale plans? How long until someone punches Chadwick? Where’s Mary Andrews? How long have the Ghoulies been back in Riverdale…and Archie’s house for that matter? If Riverdale is such a cesspool, what exactly does Tom Keller do all day? I suppose we will just have to wait for answers to all of these questions and more. Until next week!

You know somebody is a cinnamon roll when you know literally nothing about them but then you read a comment they make on a manga or a random tweet of theirs and you automatically go “awww how adorable”. Ishida is apparently one of those ‘Looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you’ types.

I don’t watch the AoT anime anymore because I don’t really like how it handles the characters (namely Mikasa, Annie and Eren; plus there wasn’t much of a point in watching it since it never advanced beyond the Female Titan arc until now) but I saw S2’s trailer and it does look amazing! The animation is as beautiful as ever :) maybe I’ll give it a chance if I have the time!

So…here’s more TG/Ham angst ^^ I have no idea how to make AMVs or MMVs but for some reason I decided it would be fun to write this little plan for a Wait for It MMV for TG. Here’s a snippet of the mess I ended up creating (the lyrics are in italics and everything in parentheses is the scene/panel I would like to appear during that lyric):

Aww, thank you! I love anaylzing characters and scenes when I’m not too lazy to do so.

It’s interesting to compare characters too, how they can be similar and different at the same time- character relationships are also a lot of fun to analyze.

Speaking of that, though…

SPOILERS AND RAMBLING ABOUT TG’S RECENT CHAPTERS; BEWARE

(So, we got that Amon/Kaneki convo.

Amon: “The people you thought you lost…your friends and acquaintances…what if they somehow returned to you? How would that make you feel?”

Kaneki: “It’d be frightening. Because I’ll have forgotten their names.”

Maybe I’m being weird but I seem to recall the White Suits telling Miza that they followed Naki because no matter how thick he seems, he never forgets a friend and he has never forgotten the names of the people he fought with (he keeps apologizing to the dead members of his group every night). Kaneki’s statement that he’s 'forgotten’ the names of his lost loved ones seems to contrast with Naki’s behavior. Don’t know if this was on purpose or not but if it was, that would be cool.

We also got a Touka/Akira convo, which was really interesting.

Touka and Akira reached a tentative sort-of beginning of an understanding through their less-than-ideal fathers: When Akira claimed she was never ashamed or remorseful for the ghouls she hunted and that she was proud of her father’s legacy, Touka asked Akira if she’d never considered how things might have been if Kureo Mado hadn’t been so bent on revenge. She then admitted that she wasn’t proud of her own father either; that she’d resented him for being so obsessed with avenging her mother and that she’d been angry with herself for being unable to comfort him or make him stay with her or Ayato.

Judging from Akira’s expression and the way she said 'don’t you dare’, she probably did think of 'what if father hadn’t…’ before.

I also like how things are being represented. While Akira still has a long way to go compared to people like Kaneki, Touka, Nishiki, Hinami, or even Amon and Shuu, she’s not shown as being entirely in the wrong here. An interesting scene is when Touka leads Akira outside and shows her three young children playing together; Akira’s confused for a moment before Touka tells her that the children are ghouls.

Akira remarks that no matter if they’ve been orphaned, no matter the trauma they’ve gone through, these children are still going to grow up to hunt and devour humans and that is just a fact of life that can’t be helped. Later on, when Touka convinces the children to give Akira a hug, their first instincts are to remark that she(Akira) smells nice and that they’re getting hungry.

It’s a completely innocent statement with no harmful intention behind it, but it reminds us once again that peace isn’t going to be easy and that in different circumstances, Akira would be food to these children. Or they would be her victims.

Hinami also met Akira. Those two haven’t talked yet but they’ve hugged…?

That’s actually a very good idea! I’ve fooled around with making amvs before, so if you want, I can attempt to make this when I have time! It really does sound like it could break your heart if done properly. I take my earlier assumption back. Yeeah, I also love making up theories/headcanons about characters, but I’ll never get as detailed as you. As I said, I usually keep away from complicated things, like potential character pasts, I keep to the lighthearted things ^^;;

Whaaaaaat?? Kaneki forgot names of all the dead people?? When Naki, Naki who’s kind of an idiot (but actually a really good person), never forgot a single name?? I’m starting to dislike Kaneki more and more… I mean, it started after the Tsukiyama extermination mission, to be honest, but this is just… Ishida is E V I L Also, I think it might’ve been done to create a contrast to Naki, since Ishida is quite big on hidden meanings.

Excuse me while I go cry in the corner. WHY IS ISHIDA SO HELLBENT ON KILLING OUR FEELINGS WITH A CHAINSAW OR SOMETHING?! I mean, Akira’s no closer to forgiving ghouls, it would seem (from what you’ve written, at least). And Furuta has Rize. Ooooh boy, I wonder how that’ll develop. Can’t be good anyway. But, hey, Hinami and Akira hugged, so that’s something.

Yup, Love Live has lots of nice colours and it’s a really cheerful anime, so it might serve as a break after TG hahah And the sequel, Love Live! Sunshine!! is even better, if you ask me, but that’s probably because one of my favorite characters of all times appeares there ^^;; Also, the songs are pretty good as well, in my opinion. They can have really weird titles, though, like 'Happy Party Train’ or 'Storm in Lover’ or 'Cutie Panther’. But they really are good songs ^^;;

My friend, who recommended BnHA to me said at one point 'but beware, it gets really dark’. Now, it’s impossible he was talking about the manga since he refuses to read it (in general) and the second season wasn’t out yet, so he was obviously talking about the first season. So I’m like 'okay, I’ll prepare myself’ And I watch the anime… and there’s not even a d of the dark in there. Apparently, TG and AoT have greatly altered my viewing of the term 'dark anime’, since I’ll find a lot of things not dark, even though other people will find it very dark.

Ah, that makes sense! When I watch an anime that’s not 'in’, I’ll usually be a tiny bit depressed over not having anyone to talk to about it, since everyone’s forgotten about it :/ So I understand your reasoning ^^

I love this particular entry for the hot scenes but also the moments where you see just how close and how good friends they really are. Anyway in this fic we see Emma and Killian develop an amazing friendship built on trust and mutual respect and that makes me so happy. Be prepared for some angsty moments thought, it’s not all smooth sailing for them!

Liam’s fed up of Killian meddling with his love life, so his roommate Emma volunteers to pretend to be his girlfriend. This is such an awesome set up and it does not disappoint! Funny and awkward, Killian and Emma’s sizzling chemistry is undeniable and so compelling.

Can’t Erase Me* by @icapturedkindness

Emma can’t bring herself to tell her mum that she’s broken up with Killian so he agrees to pretend to still be dating and visit Storybrooke with her. The angst of Emma denying her feelings, being oblivious to his feelings and how they navigate around each other is heart breaking.

These next three are quite gritty and angsty, there’s some uncomfortable reading and moments that might make you cry, proceed with caution:

The Difficult Kind* by @nowforruin

Emma and Killian meet when they are both working undercover against the sadistic Gold. It’s so compelling how they move past their terrible first meeting and (assuming that you haven’t already read this) I am jealous that you get to binge read this all in one go as your first experience with the fic. Although I probably would have missed out on sleep to find out what happens next so it’s probably for the best.

The Darling Affair by @icecubelotr44

Technically this one doesn’t meet your criteria because it isn’t finished… But it will be any day now. Possibly even before I post this list! I figure by the time you trawl through the rest of the fics, this will be finished. Killian’s a special agent, Emma’s a social worker, they’re thrown together to save Michael Darling. Emma’s tenacious, Killian’s basically James Bond, it’s amazing.

Secrets and Spies, Truth and Lies by @nothingimpossibleonlyimprobable

And another spy fic - this time both Killian and Emma are secret agents. This is a dark and dramatic story with a helping of whump.

The Art of Waiting: “A Werewolf Boy” Movie Review

               I’m not really that into movies. Yes I do love them but I’m not one of those persons who search and wait for new movies to come out – well, except for a few Korean movies. In fact, most of the movies I’ve seen were already shown years before. However, when I do get the chance to watch a movie, I get really hooked to it. I get involved to it too much and I have this withdrawal syndrome. Because I still can’t get over it, I look for its behind-the-scene clips, the soundtracks used and the interviews. And what I frequently do whenever I encounter a good movie is I watch it again. As I continue to watch it again and again, I discover some details I haven’t noticed the first time I watched it.

              One of the movies that I will never get tired of watching again and again is the Korean movie, A Werewolf Boy (2011). I watched it a couple of times already last year and recently, I decided to watch it again. As usual, it never fails to make me bawl like a baby. That is why I already prepared a box of tissues beforehand. When the title “A Werewolf Boy” comes to mind, most people would think it would be action-packed or the character would be more like Jacob in the Twilight movie- rough in the edges just like what a stereotypical werewolf character would be. However, this movie exceeded my expectations. It was a movie that was so warm, so pure and so heartbreaking. The movie was magnificent at opting a quiet yet emotional approach to its audience. That is why to deal with my “feels” tonight, I am going to mention some details that I noticed and loved.

[ NOTE: SPOILERS AHEAD. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. ]

PLOT

The story was set in South Korea years ago. Sun Ni, the eldest daughter was advised to move to the countryside - with less smoke, less car exhaust and fresher air, due to her lung ailment for a fast recovery. The house where she, together with her mother and little sister, resided was provided by the son of his late father’s business partner, Ji Tae, who also had his eyes on Sun Ni. As they were tidying up the house as well as their things, Sun Ni made a stunning discovery. She found a wild boy locked in the barn near their house. They took him as an orphan who lost his parents during the war. Having no social skills, speaking ability or even a tiny bit of information about him, they were forced to take him in and take care of him for the meanwhile. As time passed by, a beautiful relationship was developed and she was able to uncover the secrets and mysteries behind this peculiar boy.

CONFLICTS AND RESOLUTIONS

The movie certainly had minor conflicts like the forced marriage between Sun Ni and Ji Tae, the negligence of the authority when Sun Ni’s mother asked for help, but the main one was about Chul Soo’s unknown identity and his soon-to-be-revealed secret. The resolution that the main female character came up when Chul Soo’s safety was in the borderline was very heartbreaking. It was probably what she thought was the best thing to do that time. Thankfully, there weren’t a lot of predictable moments. Well except for the fact that I knew Sun Ni and Chul Soo were bound to have that very deep relationship at some point.

SONG JOONG KI AS CHUL SOO

             Recently, Song Joong Ki was widely loved as Captain Yoo in Descendants of the Sun – adding to his numerous remarkable roles. And I can say that his character in this movie is one of his best performances yet. With barely having any lines in this movie, Song Joong Ki surely portrayed his character perfectly. Chul Soo, the main character of the movie, cannot speak - well, at the beginning. For most of the film, the audience gets to know Chul-soo only by his actions, expressions, and his wordless interactions with the other characters.  He’s not that typical werewolf that conforms to the stereotype of such a being. He’s different from the werewolves you see in Twilight or X-Men. And I assure you, you just can’t help but to fall in love with Chul Soo. That is why, his thoughts and emotions were purely shown through just his body language and expressive gaze. From moments of confusion to amazement, from happiness to sadness, I never had that moment wherein I was unsure of what Chul Soo felt; as well as his thoughts. His facial expressions, mannerisms and gestures were definitely on point. And when he got to actually say a few lines, he made it count. It had great impact and honestly, it was one of the few moments I really loved and cried to. This just shows how amazing as an actor Song Joong Ki is.

 PARK BO YOUNG AS SUN NI

Park Bo Young always had sweet innocent roles and she was fitted for the role of Sun Ni. Her goal was to finish studying through homeschooling and be able to go to college. Although Sun Ni was quite unlikeable from the start since she displayed this dislike towards living. She always had that I-hate-this-world attitude. When Chul Soo first came, she expressed strong dislike towards him. Neither did she know, that Chul Soo and her would share such a deep connection. I liked the fact that Sun Ni showed changes when Chul Soo appeared. It just shows how great an impact Chul Soo is to her. She was that mean girl who was stuck in a predicament due to her illness but deep inside, she was that misunderstood girl who always wanted to laugh and have fun again; as well as, be able to have the strength to overcome the obstacles life has given to her.

CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE CHARACTERS

             The development of the bond between the two main characters was stupefying. Of course, their relationship didn’t have a smooth start. However, as the story continued, it showed a beautiful relationship between the two – pure, warm, deep and powerful, such that words are barely needed. It was a kind of bond that transcended language. Despite their differences, both of them showed unconditional acceptance towards one another which later gives rise to the desire to protect one another, even with the expense of one’s own safety, all without explanation. It just showed how pure and raw this relationship is. My favorite moments were definitely their interactions- though wordless but would definitely pull your heartstrings. It was the one that caused me to go “Awww “almost half the movie. 

TOPICS

There were different topics discussed, though some were just subtly touched.These are some that I noticed. 

As I’ve said earlier, there was a part in the movie where the authority was passing Sun Ni’s mother to each other when asked about Chul Soo’s case. One officer told Sun Ni’s mother that there would be an easy way and that it would require something. What else? Of course, money. The corruption of the society was subtly shown in this movie. 

Later in the movie, it was revealed that Chul Soo was illegally experimented, explain his supernatural abilities. When his existence was discovered, the government sent an officer to eliminate any trace of him to protect the government from compensating any loss or taking responsibility because of what happened. Since the one that experimented on him actually had the intention of creating an army with extraordinary strength and undying loyalty that would serve for the country.

When Chul Soo was tricked by Ji Tae. Everybody also easily pointed fingers on Chul Soo. Just because Chul Soo can’t speak for himself and is too naive to do so. It was taken advantage by Ji Tae so that he could fulfill his own goals and intentions.

Chul Soo’s genuine loyalty towards Sun Ni was promising. I think one thing we could get from this movie is the unconditional love and loyalty Chul Soo gave to Sun Ni. It was pure and genuinely from the heart. 

SETTING

The movie was set at the countryside in South Korea 47 years ago. It was a small neighborhood with only one couple, a grandmother with his grandchildren and a woman. The house Sun Ni lived in was actually similar of that of a horror movie but the coloring of the video was the one that made it less scary and more light-hearted. I could say that it was a sweet story in a horror-like setting - in terms of place. The field where the children always played where beautiful though; as well as the forest, where Sun Ni and Chul Soo hid from the police.

GIDARYEO! -- WAIT!

If this movie had a catchphrase, it would be “Wait!”. Sun Ni ”trained” Chul Soo with the use of this word. It was actually adorable whenever Chul Soo would automatically stop at the sound of Sun Ni’s voice saying this phrase. Sun Ni is able to control Chul Soo just by the mention of this single word - from eating properly at the table to preventing him to kill a person caused by his impulsiveness.

CINEMATOGRAPHY, COLORING, VISUALS, SOUNDTRACK

             This movie certainly had beautiful cinematography. Its coloring provided a warm, sweet, dreamy, melancholic and nostalgic feeling which is understandable since the main story happened decades ago. It was set on a rural area in South Korea 47 years ago. The color tone of the movie amplified the innocence shown by the main characters in this movie.The touch of sunlight added a pizazz on the scenes. I really liked it. It had moody visuals. Personally, I am really particular of the coloring of the movie since it really affect how the movie is perceived by the audience. 

I admit that at the start, it had that horror feeling due to the continuous zooming scene of a door without music so I thought this movie fit in that category. However when the music came and the scenes of an old woman appeared, I was proven wrong. It never tipped over into horror even with Ji Tae’s (Yoo Yeon Suk) terrible hair and fashion sense.

             It also had simple background music which suited the simple way of the movie in delivering the characters emotions. It had that reoccurring tune [SONG: MY PRINCE] that played whenever special moments happened which amplified the feelings portrayed by the characters which causes the audience to unknowingly be attached to that tune and be moved whenever it plays. The song perfectly fit with the sweet as well as the sad moments.

 NOTABLE MOMENTS IN THE MOVIE

Sun Ni found a way to eat together with Chul Soo, who always ate all of the food on the table, by training him like how dogs are trained. She got this idea from a book she found while unpacking in their new house. She commanded him to not eat the potato when she says “Wait”. After a couple of tries, she finally got Chul Soo to wait - though at the expense of a bitten hand. She then proceeded to give him a pat on the head as a reward and Chul Soo seems to be touched by it. In fact, later in the movie it was pointed out a couple of times how Chul Soo loved when Sun Ni pats him. In the scene there was a shift of focus from the potato so Sun Ni herself – just showing that Chul Soo is now far more interested in Sun Ni than the potato. In my perspective, this just shows what happens when you do a good deed or give a good treatment to a person. You get to earn that person’s good treatment to you in return.

Chul Soo gets mesmerized when Sun Ni played the guitar. It showed how sweet, pure and raw Chul Soo’s affection is towards Sun Ni. He then pat Sun Ni’s head as a reward just like what she always did for him which was such a sweet gesture. It was interrupted by a phone call regarding the stay of Chul Soo, she then quickly cuts off the call – not wanting to let Chul Soo go. By this time, we can now see how their bond grew deeper and stronger than before.

It was said during the first few minutes of the movie that Sun Ni was a lonesome teenage girl due to her sickness and the consequences of it. She used to write on her notebook which sums up to one thought – “I hate this world”. Well, that’s before Chul Soo came into her life. When that happened, she started to smile a lot more. She started laughing again and this just shows how Chul Soo’s world was not the only one that changed but as well as Sun Ni’s. They became each other’s source of happiness.

Chul Soo patiently waited outside the door for Sun Ni to come out and when she does, an enlightened Chul Soo appeared. Sun Ni also smiled but tried to hide it. He then continued to follow her up until her room and slept at the doorstep of Sun Ni’s room. This just shows how attached Chul Soo has become to Sun Ni. Later in the movie, it was actually explained that one of the traits a wolf has is complete loyalty that lasts an eternity.

Sun Ni was threatened by Ji Tae and Chul Soo was secretly watching it. In order to protect Sun Ni, he transformed into his true form right in front of Sun Ni’s eyes – a werewolf. He then proceeded to fight the thugs and as he was just about to kill Ji Tae; Sun Ni, despite being shocked, managed to stop him by saying “Wait”. The moment Chul Soo heard this, he went back to his human form, looking as innocent as ever. This scene shows how Chul Soo was protective of Sun Ni and how his affection towards her has grown totally deep.

There are also many other instances when Chul Soo did every way he knows to protect Sun Ni. Chul Soo has now become Sun Ni’s savior. And Sun Ni has now become Chul Soo’s number one priority.

Sun Ni was about to go for a check-up after collapsing when she and Chul Soo raced on the hill. Before going, she decided to see Chul Soo and wanting to badly see Sun Ni again, he tried pushing his way out his prison; but Sun Ni told him to wait. And just like any other instances before, he again stopped using brute force, obeying Sun Ni.

This implies that Chul Soo is continuously waiting for Sun Ni to come back after he was locked in the barn again after the incident with Sun Ni happened. Just like what Sun Ni said, he continued to wait. Even postponing other activities like eating for there was only one goal in his mind - to wait for Sun Ni’s arrival.

Sun Ni returned from her check-up and it is evident how the both of them missed each other’s company. Chul Soo’s affection for Sun Ni was shown once again by how he missed her. Just like what the researcher said, he may lack some skills but he has the capability and willingness to learn – for Sun Ni.

We tend to believe what we want to believe. But Chul Soo believed everything he was told.

Chul Soo was misunderstood for breaking into houses with a bad intention but he only did it because he was provoked by Ji Tae. Ji Tae told Chul Soo that Sun Ni’s health was going worse for she is unable to play her guitar and sing and she may eventually die. He continued that Sun Ni hated Chul Soo and that maybe when he get her guitar back which is at the house of Mr. Jeong, their neighbor, she might like him a bit. As innocent as he is, he believed Ji Tae’s lies. People in their neighborhood became scared of him. He thought that he was there to steal their things for he searched their houses when all he really wanted was to find the guitar. The fear of being hated by Sun Ni is evident in his face and this is what drove him to go beyond his boundaries.

This scene was especially my favorite from this movie. And this was the scene where I cried my eyes out. It was when the Chul Soo’s first word was uttered. The people who were planning to kill Chul Soo were already in the woods. Sun Ni begs him to hide but Chul Soo continues to follow her. This led Sun Ni to push Chul Soo away – if that’s the only way that he won’t be killed. She shouts at him, “Go. Ger lost! I hate you so get lost!” It was when Chul Soo plead Sun Ni to not go by uttering his first word ever: “Kajima” (Don’t go.) The only thing Chul Soo was able to do was watch Sun Ni’s back as it continues to disappear in the woods. It was heartbreaking how Sun Ni was trying to push Chul Soo away at all means - while saying sorry in between while crying hard and even slapping him and throwing a rock at him. It actually hurts her more than it hurts him.

I thinks this was the part when half of my tissues were consumed. This scene will surely make you cry like a baby even when you’re already a grown man. Even after almost 5 decades, Chul Soo still waited for Sun Ni because of what Sun Ni wrote before they left the house. This scene was the epitome of how loyal and devoted Chul Soo is to Sun Ni.

Chul Soo definitely deserved a hundred times of strokes of his hair from Sun Ni after having to patiently wait for 47 years for her arrival. The tune plays in the background as I continue to stop the snot from running down my nose.

In actual time, Sun Ni is already an old woman but in the movie, it was her younger self that appeared to Chul Soo. This is because Chul Soo’s time stopped when Sun Ni left. He was stuck in the time when Sun Ni and him were still together. It was what kept him going – hoping that Sun Ni would return again just like she used to before. They got their moment - suspended in time. It was when things return to the way it used to be - what they felt and where they were originally before.

Sun Ni leaves the house and refuses to sell it. As their car leaves, Chul Soo stares at them hopelessly. Honestly, I was a little enraged in this part of movie. Yes she did come back but she left again. Sun Ni can’t just leave like that after returning after 47 years. That’s just heartless. I don’t think there was a proper goodbye between the two. Even though she told Chul Soo that his waiting was over, that doesn’t resolve his loneliness and longing for her for the times when she was gone. “How could she leave him afterwards? Seriously, why would she leave him?” - these were my thoughts as I watched this particular scene.

The ending scene showed Chul Soo making the snowman on the top of the hill fulfilling his promise to Sun Ni. This is how pure and clean Chul Soo’s heart is.

I honestly felt bad for Chul Soo. What was he supposed to do next? Maybe he would continue to wait for her again – for as long as he lives. Sun Ni didn’t get to even play the guitar he barely put together. This movie showed the innocence, pureness, loyalty, faithfulness and compassion of Chul Soo’s heart. The thing I liked about this movie was its simple yet impactful way of delivering the emotions shown by the characters. The ending was bittersweet and somewhat tragic but despite it, I still loved the movie. This was the kind of ending that sticks to you and stays there. One thing is for sure, when you watch this movie, you’re up for an emotional rollercoaster ride.

Hi! I'm happy your anon mode is back! I wanted to write about TG in the past weeks, but then exams came and I forgot what I wanted to say lol, hopefully I will remember :) So I saw another anon recommending KS. Is it good? I don't know if to read it or not. About YOI I wasn't interested, then I saw the last episode which I liked and watched it from the end to the beginning XD Yurio is my fav too btw! Happy to have you back!

About YOI, yeah I just love Yurio hahah, he was instantly my fav because of his bratty attitude although I like Victor and Yuri too. One day I might just watch the rest of it, but since I know the entire story, it’s not one of my priorities right now :)

As for KS, um, well here’s the thing, it is unexpectedly good as in, even considering the title, I wasn’t expecting it to please me so much (seeing as I thought this would be yet another cliché type of a story centered on BL love with one dude being Bad™ while the other still loved him despite the blood on his hands, Oh How Sweet™).

I’m completely exaggerating it of course, but basically, that was my idea of it when I first saw it on my dash two weeks ago or so (thanks @theawesomefanatic and a few others).I still gave it a try one evening, almost closed my phone after the first ten pages because it already gave off an extremely creepy and unhealthy vibe when nothing had even happened but then I couldn’t sleep anyway so I went through ch1 and 2 thinking ‘ew that’s so messed up’ and… well, it’s so well done in being so damn messed up that you just can’t stop reading, haha.

It’s a bit like when you’re watching one of the most gory episodes of Criminal minds (or Silence of the lambs) alone at home and without any light on, being on the edge of your seat because you’re scared to see what could happen but at the same time you still want to know, and since the author constantly plays on that, that’s why it’s a really good psychological thriller.

So all in all I’m 100% in it for the psychological horror part of it and because the two main characters are really fascinating to read about (both on their own and through their relationship obviously) and honestly, I just can’t wait to find out where all of this is going. :) The rumors about the series aren’t fake at all though:

it’s not just called “Killing Stalking” for show, it’s really a high level of violence 

it’s sexually explicit and R18 for a reason

it’s emotionally disturbing

there is a lot of Discourse about it in the tags so if you tend to be emotionally involved when it comes to fandoms, well… just be careful :3

The first two chapters (available for free here) really put me off (totally on purpose of course) and who knows if I would have continued afterwards if I hadn’t been unable to sleep that one night.

So the point is, you might not believe it’s actually that violent or disturbing but it is (personally I was just laughing it off like “oh reeeeeally?” and yes, really xD) and it’s meant to be that way in the first place, so you’ll have to see by yourself if it appeals to you or not. :3 

As for some personal pros of mine:

actual good characterization and not just your usual BL tropes more or less copied and pasted onto 2 characters to fit with the horror/thriller genre which is an A++ point and something I hadn’t found in a long time when it comes to this specific genre.

actual character development for the two main guys is totally a thing and it’s great

cliffhangers everywhere and not just at the end of chapters

good pace (+ chapters are weekly)

both characters actually have big issues in and outside of their relationship (which is 100% my thing because one does exist as an individual outside of a relationship, and it’s especially important in a toxic one)

and to end this, two good posts without spoilers that I agree with (amongst many others) in case you want to read some more about the series before seeing whether you’re to try it or not: [x] [x]

Some people might see this post and argue that “no it’s just supposed to be a BL story under extreme conditions” but honestly I don’t really care: as I was saying to that other Anon, I’m after plot and characterization (though in series with a small cast, characterization > plot) and so as long as I’m getting that from KS, I’ll keep on reading :) 

I hope that made sense, sorry for this huge ramble. :3 Just weigh that decision carefully okay? I have no idea about what you like or how old you are, so I hope this helped you to get a clearer idea about KS.
