Posting pictures of Alaric again since another fan of the Withern Rise trilogy also named their pet (though a dog) after the main character.

Hey. I was wondering if you got the inspiration for that sketch of the four betas crying from that one image floating around on here of the four alphas crying (or at least I think they're the alphas). It looks good by the way. ^_^
no i came up with that on my own! but there are several similar pictures around like it so idk?? it seems to be a popular theme.
but anyway, thank you!

Extremely Crude Mage Class Tutorial
Tumblr media
My say under the cut
Well! I don't really know what to tell a beginner sewer what to do because there's a lot of basics that you have to learn first. Like how to use a sewing machine, what stitches to use, how to choose the right fabric, etc, etc. If you have a friend or family member that can help you try to get their help. Starting from scratch by yourself is kind of painful.
But! I guess I can help you for your mage costume! The thing about mage gear is that we don't exactly know what the hood looks like yet; we've got to see Meulin in it, but her hood was down--plus, her hood was really small!
But let's look at this picture provided by tumblr user cocoraccoon:
Tumblr media
A pattern is basically the guidelines you use to cut pieces of fabric out before you sew everything together. For god tier hoods, I make my own pattern; I usually draw them onto pieces of graphing paper that I tape together, though you can use butcher paper or newspaper instead.
The pattern for this cosplay seems basic enough really. Like I said I can't provide much information for the hood just yet, since we don't know what it looks like up, but if you don't plan to wear the hood then we can make a sort of cape with it!
Tumblr media
I already made a knight hood tutorial before, which also involves a cape; through this experience I found out that capes work best with linings--basically, you'll have to sew two large pieces of the cape together and leave one side open, and then turn the entire thing inside out and press the seams with an iron. This makes the edges look much neater and stops any frays from coming out!
But first let me make a really crappy pattern:
Tumblr media
Like I said make sure that the sides of the cape are symmetrical; I just didn't draw them that way because I'm lazy as hell.
As for the front part of the cape and the cape itself:
Tumblr media
Yeah this sucks I know. Sorry ff reason I made a dotted line for the hood is because, again, we really have no idea what it looks like.
But yes when it comes to actually sewing the entire thing... you know what, I'm going to redirect you to another tutorial. This tutorial here is for the heir hood, but it basically has the same instructions:
John God Tier Hood Tutorial
Just skip part 1, which talks about how to make the pattern, and follow part 2 with the mage pattern! Be sure to iron all your seams etc etc.
As for the actual costume itself. Well, the pants looks like tights to me--but if you don't want to do this, then find some pants that can fit you! If you're doing a mage of space, then black jeans or leggings will work fine.
As for the shirt, I suggest you actually use one of your own shirts to help you with making the pattern. If you can find an old shirt and actually take it apart, that'll be better for you; but if you can't, just put a shirt on a piece of newspaper/butcher paper and trace parts of it to make your pattern.
Tumblr media
The black dotted line represents your t-shirt. As for the sleeves... Well, basically, like the drawings on the right represent, you can basically just draw an extended pattern of the sleeves, cut out four pieces, sew them together to make sleeves, etc etc.
Sewing a shirt is rather simple; just sew the shoulders and sides of the fabric pieces together, leaving out the bottom, arm holes, and neck holes, flip em, press em, and then sew the sleeves on... and there you have it.
For the little swirls and the symbol, I suggest you either use iron-on paper or the freezer paper method. Both are honestly great.
This very crude tutorial was probably really confusing, especially if you're a beginner to sewing ff I'm sorry. I'm not really the best at this plus I don't have a lot of time right now. Maybe check on sewingserket and ask her for tips, too?
If you have any questions regarding THIS tutorial go ahead and ask me. I'll try to.. explain better haha ;;
