How do you get ideas for melodies [for your songs]? Do you listen to other songs to get the gears turning? Do you make them up independently? uvu

Ah. This is a really good question xD

There are several different ways I interpret “melodies”. If you mean BGM or main instrumental melody, then this is what I stare at for like 30 minutes when I’m uninspired.

And for these 30 minutes.. sometimes it takes hours.. um. I just randomly click around in the piano editor hoping it will sound nice xD occasionally, though, I do look at other songs and slightly borrow the melody but make it my own all the same. But when I’m trying to come up with something.. It’s just.. all randomly clicking. Haha.

I will admit, though, that Efflorescence and wander were based off some other songs that I was obsessed with while I was making them, but I changed the melody up a bit for each. wander was actually based off of soil by talaw (a Miku song) because I really liked the idea of the vocals blending that way. I don’t remember what the name of the song Efflorescence was “based off” of.. so. Eheh.

I do think it’s annoying when people completely take a melody that I’ve heard before and then call it their own, but I do support people listening to other music to experiment with different patterns, instruments, notes, etc. I think that’s a great way to improve with independently made music, so that’s why I do it.
