In 2004, I moved from Cornwall, where I helped run a holiday village with my parents, to Somerset. I knew noone and had 2 small children, so finding work to fit around school hours, term times etc. was very difficult. I saw an advert, in my local newspaper, looking for Avon Representatives.   Dave and I attended repfest2017 for New Avon and had a wonderful time. I believe Nashville was the backdrop for the presentation of WILD COUNTRY’s 50 Year Anniversary this year. The day before we were to leave, I tried to run around and deliver ever Avon order, give out brochures, exercise, go to my yoga class and more. I ran from 7:00am until I fell at 4:10pm on my last delivery. Yes, I fell hard. I have never felt the pain I felt that day.

Dave was waiting for me in the car and as I returned to my driver’s seat (I had thoroughly exhausted my husband that day) I exclaimed, “I have to go to the hospital! I think I broke my ribs! To which he exclaimed, “What?” “I think I broke my ribs!”

“How?” he asked. “I fell running in to Willie’s store front and my elbow crashed into my side.” Then I added, “We have to take Logan to get pizza first and then I’ll go.” Dave’s mouth remained open. It may still be open now. ha

Logan is our Grandson and I don’t get to see him much so I did not want to disappoint him. Well, the rest is history. 2 broken ribs would accompany me on my vacation. Oh and Dave hurt his arm playing golf. What a pair!

We started in Memphis at Elvis’ house. I have always wanted to visit Graceland and I finally arrived. Extra strength ibuprofen in hand at all times. I enjoyed everything in Memphis – although the food was a little heavy. I felt sorry for all the poor pigs that accommodated the patronage throughout Tennessee. Pork everywhere!

Next, I was so excited to visit the LORRAINE HOTEL. This is where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot in the 60s. I remembered the name of the hotel ands I remember the event.  It  was around dinner time and I was watching TV as my mom made dinner.  I believe I saw it happen. I remember this story vividly but there were so many assassinations in the 60s, it could have been one of the many other state officials.

I said to my mom, “they just shot him.” She ran into the living room in disbelief. It seemed to be a regular occurrence with our leaders being killed in the 1960s. We watched the incident with the fire hoses being shot on young women, pregnant women and all African Americans being abused in the streets. I did not remember it was in Memphis. This was exciting to be there but a very somber and sobering visit, I stood where history was made. Sad history but history and something I remember vividly from my childhood. Yes, I am that old.

Sightseeing on Mud Island where so many new people came down the Mississippi, the Mississippi, where the blues were born and Mark Twain gave us a glimpse of his life here in the south.  Dave, my history guy, knew much about this island and I am happy we got to share the visit – although my ribs are now exploding. We are also in confederate country and I feel the war around me and in me. We aren’t in Philly anymore. buddy.

We made our way to NASHVILLE with my AVON FRIENDS! WOOHOO!! Avon knows how to throw a party. Meals, outings, seeing the holiday line, attending inspiring seminars and enjoying the excitement of the music, give aways (even a Mini Cooper – Avon does not play) and friendships of fellow representatives.

We then made our way to Knoxville, a lovely Tennessee University town. The ride there was treacherous with torrential rain in the dark. I could not bear the thought of getting into an accident with my ribs. To think about them cracking more or coming through my skin!!! Oh no!!! So, I pulled out my rosary and asked Padre Pio to stop the rain. To all of you I say, Believe me, the rain stopped immediately when I started praying. So thank you dear Saint Padre Pio. 

We arrived in Knoxville where we enjoyed delicious food (a lighter fare) and lots of affordable shopping.  I was pretty much historied out and I could not take one more piece of career information.  Dave and I truly enjoying the street musicians, the food and our quiet time together. Not many pictures but lots of memories. 

We dined a lot at Cracker Barrel throughout Knoxville. Great home made food at a low price. If anything can destroy your budget on vacation, it’s the eating out. I wonder why we don’t have many Cracker Barrel restaurants in New Jersey?

Our last stop was Dollywood. I am not a huge fan of country music but I do like it. We stayed at the Gaylord Opry House which was beautiful. We drove by the Grand Ole Opry.  My ribs had had it.  However,  I love Dolly Parton and have seen  her in concert. Dollywood also had inexpensive clothing and gifts.  I shopped my way through the park. I was running out of clean clothes.  Plus, I have seven grandchildren.  I like to bring them something back. This was a great day! Why?  Because I rented a scooter and did not have to walk. On this evening my ribs felt much better eating at Cracker Barrel:-)

This was the end of our trip. Even in pain, we had a wonderful vacation. There are so many more places we’d like to visit in the south. I definitely am going back to Alabama to see Helen Keller’s house. We were so close!  How extraordinary! To walk where someone you have admired in a book has walked. I love to visit our states and historic sites. We live in a huge, beautiful country!

I do love that I am a New Avon Rep because I can leave my business while it works itself so Dave and I can travel. I can work from my smart phone anytime, anywhere. Next time, I will plan how not to be so busy BEFORE I leave to avoid any mishaps. I know I will do better and enjoy next year’s repfest with NO broken bones.

Planning my vacation around my Avon yearly repfest is what I love to do. Nothing like traveling with friends for part of the vacation then going off on our own to enjoy the rest.

My Final Thought:

The first thing I want to state is that I love makeup as much as the next girl. However, I never was one who would spend a whole lot on makeup.

When Avon announced their new collaboration with The Face Shop, I was super excited to try out these new products. As an Avon representative, I am able to order new products at demo prices. So I thought this would be a great way for me to try high end beauty products at a price I can live with. (To be honest, I never could understand how beauty influencers I follow could spend that much money on makeup. I understand that was their job but spending that type of money, in my opinion, was not worth it.)

Early 2019 Avon had discontinued my two favorite liquid foundations, True Color Flawless Liquid Foundation and True Color Ideal Nude Liquid Foundation. So, I was looking forward to finding a new liquid foundation to replace them. When I saw what the price was going to be even for me, I have to admit I was a little hesitant in purchasing it. By this time I had found a foundation I liked (Magix Foundation Wand). Though it was a great product to use on a daily basis, I always loved have a liquid foundation to wear on those special occasions (date night, holidays, etc). From my experience, liquid foundations are much better with providing full coverage. I figured I’d give Avon x The Face Shop Ink Lasting Liquid Foundation Slim Fit a shot. Worse case, I would be able to do a product review and have it for back up.

I will admit, the first time I tried it, the first thought that came to my head was “Oh my god! Now I see what those beauty influencers buy makeup like this.” I could not believe how lightweight the foundation was. It literally felt like I had absolutely nothing on but yet it covered up every blemish and pimple I had on my face. I was super happy with thy way it looked and felt on my skin.

I was even happier that I got my matching shade on first try. I know how hard it is to find the perfect shade. I noticed upon research of this product review is that was one of the biggest complaints about this product- People were having a hard time picking the right shade for their skin. What customers do not realize is that this foundation is not like other Avon foundations. This foundation actually takes into consideration people’s skin’s undertone shades. Most people don’t think of that when choosing a foundation. With Avon x The Face Shop‘s foundations, you can choose foundation that not only meets your overall skin tone, but also your undertone (do you have a more pinkish tone, golden tone or do you have a mixture of these two).

Now onto the cons I’ve mentioned above. The first time I used Ink Lasting Liquid Foundation, I pumped out the amount I normally would use on my other liquid foundations. I learned really quick that was a big mistake. Due to it main ingredient being water, you actually don’t need as much as you would use with other other liquid foundations, even other Avon liquid foundations. What resulted though was the pump spray got excess all over it and I ended up getting a couple drops on my shirt. This is where my con comes in. It was not easy to clean off, even trying to clean it right away.

Another thing I noticed was when I tried cleaning my face at the end of the day was that my Makeup Remover Wipes with Mineral Complex, I noticed that it took double the amount of wipes to clean it off. What I noticed that worked was removing as much as I can with my Makeup Remover Wipes and then wash my face with my face cleanser twice. This is a little more work then I normally have to do, but for me, that is fine because my foundation lasted all day perfectly.

I would highly recommend this foundation, especially to those who need a long lasting, full coverage foundation that feels like you got nothing on. This is also a great foundation for those who are looking for quality foundation that has plant based ingredients. Yes, the cost is more then the usual amount you would spend with foundations from Avon, but I personally feel that it is totally worth the hype, as they say.
