Design Challenge Week 3 || Midnighters Trilogy Book 1 // The Secret Hour This was created purely in indesign. This book is about the secret hour at midnight that only individuals who were born at midnight are able to access. It was one of my favorite series growing up and I remember spending a lot of time deciphering the original covers. I played with all the summer constellations and the clock opening up to the 13th hour. In a perfect world the 13 behind the 12 would be printed with black vellum so it shined a different color but otherwise wouldn't be noticeable. The entire series is about unlocking secrets so the symbols for each of the characters are hidden within the stars. (By the way, the name of the first book is 13 letters. I see what you did there Scott Westerfeld). Typefaces | Valentina, Delicate & Perpetua

Design Challenge Week 1 || Ender’s Game The first image is a book cover and the second is a promotional poster designed to go with it. I created all the images in illustrator. The typefaces used are: Mr. Eaves, Gestalt, and Ivory. I decided to highlight the quote "The enemy's gate is down", because in both the movie and the book, it is a huge concept to grasp. It's the only thing that keeps Ender grounded (literally and figuratively). When all around you is space and anything could be up and down, you need to orient yourself. I also believe it goes a bit deeper than that, it's one of the only truths he can cling to during his journey and I think without it he would have been lost.

The Thief Lord cover and illustrations.

This was an independent study for one of my classes. It was to work on my illustration skills and environment drawing which is something I struggle with. I'm pretty happy with it over all, but of course there could always be improvements.

The first is the cover, showing Scipio and his persona: the Thief Lord

The first illustration shows when Scipio is first introduced in the books, he comes in a bit late and everyone had fallen asleep.

The second illustration is when Scipio and the group of kids are both searching Ida's house without knowing the other is there.

The last one is when Scipio first gets on the merry go round. I tried to tug at a bit of suspense in each image.

I figured it was about time I shared some of my school work with you guys. This was a project I did last spring, I had an independent study with a professor and I wanted to work on book cover design. I made a series of Grimm Fairy Tales out of cut paper, emphasizing the cleverness in each story. Each cover had a different color foil ironed onto it. (No that was not easy and it caused me nerve damage in my finger actually ;D No one can say I don’t work hard haha). I didn't mention this in the first image I posted, but I created the G used in Grimm for this project as well.

In Hansel and Gretel, Hansel shows an extreme amount of cunning. He first leaves stones that glow in the dark to find their way back home and he ends up outsmarting the witch as well. Look for a face, a trail, ant he witch.

Little Red Cap is Little Red Riding Hood, and in the store the wolf is the clever one. I made these covers with the intention of the more you look, the more you see. Look for the wolf, the object that lead Little Red off the path as well as the forest.

These are two OC's. One is mine, the other is a friend. This was a scene we'd written out where Emery had gotten bullied essentially and as she tried to sneak past Roderick to the showers, he caught her and made her tell him what happened. It was sweet, Emery then went on to steal all of his shirts. But not his pants, they were too long and she tripped on them.

This image took a couple of days to complete. I worked a long time on the details and the line art, then coloring which is still new to me. I think I'm improving. XD I hope so anyway.

Young Lily Potter creating a lily! I wanted to draw something this morning, and this came into my mind. Hope you guys enjoy!

It's been a while since I've been able to do anything digital. But school has finally ended. This is North and Atlas, they're OC characters of mine and a friend. Atlas is the one on the left, he's hair is always messy and he's an impatient teenager. North, on the left is blind in one eye. He has an awesome eyepatch named Iris he normally wears but I drew him without it.  I'm currently writing a story about the two of them, here is an unedited snippet if you're interested:

“You should be awake by now.” Came a familiar but snarky voice. North managed to roll his good eye without even opening it. “The bell hasn’t gone off yet Iris.” He muttered, his voice thick with sleep, despite his cloudy thoughts he could hear the sigh in response. “You have a visitor, and he will be in trouble and you will be in trouble if you’re not back to your respective rooms by the bell.” North opened his eye then, turning in his bed to see another human curled up on the other side of the small bed. Now that he was awake he could feel the warmth from the boy. He didn’t remember the other coming into his room last night, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t awake. He’d woken up several times without remembering the kid coming in, but in the morning At would assure him that North had spoken to him before they both fell back asleep. He wondered if he managed to calm the other down last night, or if he’d just snuck in and fallen asleep.

North reached over and gently shook the dark haired boy’s shoulder. “Come on At, you need to get up. We’ll both be in trouble if you don’t.” The male, Atlas, opened his eyes. They were a vivid bright green, the most striking green he’d ever seen in anyone’s eyes. Even right now, when they were dull from sleep, they still stood out through his dark hair. “Mmm, yeah. See you at breakfast.” He said and hopped from the bed, landing quietly on both feet before he looked around, more aware of his surroundings now it seemed. Atlas quickly and quietly padded his way to the door, peeking back at North and giving him a wink and a smirk before his messy mop of brown hair disappeared which left North rolling his eyes for the second time that morning.
