“We require your help healing All-father and bringing peace to the nine realms”
All eyes shifted to you.
What the fuck???
It took you less the a minute to come to your decision.
“Nope. Not happening” you said, not bothering to look at anyone as you walked straight towards the fridge.
Thor paused, concerned. He was under the impression that you’d jump at the opportunity to help people.
“I- I do not understand” he said confused.
You sighed, shutting the fridge door. You turned around and walked towards the kitchen island. Looking straight into Thor’s eyes you asked him gently.
“Is your dad in pain?”
“No..” Came the reply
“Okay, perfect. Give me 2-3 days to recover and then we can see” you said decidedly.
“So.. you will help us?” He asked uncertainly.
“Yes, I will. I just need 3 days to recover. I wont be any help if I just pass out in the middle of battle or anything.” You said picking up your phone.
“Now, if you need me. I will be in my room with my two.. um.. best friends. Hanging out. Yep hanging out”
Wanda turned completely red the moment she heard that. Natasha did her utmost best to hold back her laughter. Pietro merely fake gagged and walked away, muttering about how he absolutely doesn’t need to hear that shit.
Not waiting for anyone else, you walked out of the kitchen. Followed by a very red Wanda and a grinning Natasha.
It took all of you barely 10 minutes to shower and get ready in your respective rooms.
When the two women entered your room, you barely waited a moment before pulling Natasha into a deep kiss. She let out a surprised moan but immediately kissed you back. Her hands roamed your arms and your hair. Wanda made her way around you and started kissing down Natasha’s neck. Nat started letting out soft moans into your kiss, her grip in your hair tightening. When the two of you pulled back for some air, Wanda took this as an opportunity to smash her lips against yours. Smiling into the kiss you slowly made your way towards the bed. Wanda let out a giggle as you pushed her onto the bed, she repositioned herself to sit up against the headboard. You pulled Natasha on top of you as you sat down on the bed, allowing her to straddle you. The moment she was comfortable, you started kissing her jaw. Nibbling on her earlobe and leaving wet open mouth kisses down her neck. Nat let out a low moan, which Wanda echoed. Frowning you turned around to see Wanda’s hand in her pants, teasing her clit. Her face was flushed as she was breathing slightly heavy. You raised your eyebrow making her pause.
“Oh don’t stop on my account” you said sardonically.
She let out a sheepish giggle. You look at her hand being hidden by her pants and smirked.
“Those pants seem to be restricting you a little too much. I think it’d be better if you got rid of them entirely.”
Wanda did not hesitate to do so, before you could see her remove it Natasha grabbed your face and made you look at her.
“Don’t forget about my reward, detka” She whispered seductively.
You kissed down her neck and nipped at her collarbone as far as the t-shirt let you.
“All of this needs to come off.” you growled, grabbing her t-shirt.
She stood back and slowly removed her top and bra. Natasha swore she heard you whimper. Smirking she removed her shorts and panties next.
“Dear lord” you breathed.
Natasha was… absolutely stunning. You felt like a teenager due to the way you just couldn’t take your eyes off her body. She went to straddle you once again and you groaned at the feeling of her heat against your thigh. Grabbing her butt, you flipped the both of you so her back was against the bed. Your breath got caught in your throat as this angle gave you the perfect view of a very naked Natasha and an equally naked Wanda. Wanda was lazily rubbing her clit, watching you and Nat interact with hooded eyes. You brought your eyes back to the goddess lying underneath you.
“Can I touch you?” You whispered, looking straight into Nat’s eyes.
Her breath hitched at the genuineness in your gaze. She realised then that if she had said no even now, you would not be upset or disappointed. The care and adoration you showed her caused a lump to form in her throat. It hit her that her feelings for you were far deeper than she realised.
“Ruin me.. please” Nat pleaded.
Wanda’s eyes widened at the sight of her girlfriend begging. Unable to bear the heat between her thighs she slowly inserted one finger in her, wanting to tease herself until you or nat touched her.
You maintained eye contact with Nat as you slowly kissed down her chest, leaving open mouth kissed around her breasts. Being careful not to touch her nipple.
“Please” Nat begged, “I need you so bad”.
You nibbled your way to her nipple and flicked your tongue against it. Nat’s reaction was immediate, back arching and a gasp. Her nipples hardened even further.
Unable to hold yourself back any further you took her nipple in your mouth and flicked it with your tongue, while simultaneously massaging her other breast with your hand.
Nat let out a loud moan. Her hands went to grab your back. You froze for a brief moment, enough for her to notice, she looked at you concerned. You merely grabbed her hands and pinned them above her head.
“Keep your hands to yourself, darling. Trust me it’ll feel better” you promised
Nodding, she leaned her head back against the bed and keeping her hands above her head even after you released them.
“Good girl” you praised.
Natasha blushed at the praise, then let out a yelp as you tugged her nipple with your teeth.
You proceeded to give it gentle licks in apology. You moved on to the next nipple, giving it the same treatment; gentle tugs proceeded by licks.
You slowly left a trail of bites down her body, making your way to her thighs. You reached her inner thigh and bit hard, strings of curses left Nat’s mouth as you left a deep red hickey against her pale skin. You stayed there for a moment, appreciating the sight of these two goddesses panting with pleasure, both of their eyes on you.
“Please let me touch you, Y/n. Please.” Natasha begged, gripping the bed sheet so tightly you expected it to tear.
You hummed in approval against her thigh, leaving a trail of hickeys around her intoxicating heat. Immediately Nat laced her fingers in your hair, gently urging you towards where she needed you most. She felt as though she was going to combust if you didn’t touch her soon. She had never experienced this level of desperation but it felt so good.
Finally, you licked her slit. Sending a shiver up her spine cause her to arch it reflexively. Unable to control yourself any further you took her clit into your mouth and sucked, licking it simultaneously.
“Oh my god.” She cried out, her grip in your hair tightening to a painful degree.
She canted her hips up, attempting to use your face to rub herself against but you were having none of it. You clamped your arms around her legs and held her hips in place, continuing your assault on her clit. Her moans got progressively louder, chanting yours and Wanda’s name.
You continued to taste her while you slowly inserted a finger inside her. You moaned when you felt her clench around your finger, her chest heaving as moans continue to spill out of her mouth.
“More” she gasped, “please”.
You oblige by adding two more fingers, Nat freezes and lets out a loud groan.
“So fucking full” she whispered, her hands move from your hair to grip the sheets.
Once she indicated that you can move, you begin to hammer your fingers into her stealing her breath away. Natasha lets out a scream as you begin to lick her clit rapidly. The coil in her belly tightened, her entire body tensing.
“Please please please let me cum” she begged, feeling herself about to hurtle towards what was sure to be one of the strongest orgasms of her life. You hum in approval, not stopping your movements. Nat lets out the loudest scream of the night, her pussy clenching so hard around your fingers it was almost impossible to move them. Her eyes rolled back, body spasming, unable to do anything except feel the overwhelming pleasure coursing through her body. She waited for you to slow down and withdraw your fingers from her but you did none of that. It hit her that you had no intention of stopping.
“Breathe, baby” she head Wanda’s voice in her head.
That’s when Nat inhaled sharply, gasping for breath. Her head spun as she could feel the pleasure start to build up again, faster this time. Tears sprung from Nat’s eyes at the overwhelming pleasure. She let out a silent scream as she came again, her vision turned white. You watched in amazement as cum gushed out of her. You cleaned up the entire mess with your tongue until you felt Nat weakly push your head away from her core.
You pulled back to admire an absolute fucked out Natasha. Tears ran her face, her chest heaving and her entire body trembling.
“Done already?” You teased, gently caressing her arm with your fingers.
“Give me.. a sec- a second.” She panted, the baby hairs stuck to her forehead in sweat.
You and Wanda let out a laugh.
“I’m just teasing, darling” you said, pecking her lips, followed by Wanda pecking her lips.
You turned to Wanda, who had an incredibly mischievous smile.
She crawled up to you and grabbed the collar of your sweatshirt.
“Please make me feel good, I’ve been edging myself all this time cause I wanted you to make me cum” She said, slight desperation in her voice.
Your eyebrows raised in surprise.
“You didn’t cum this entire time?” You asked, partially confused but mostly impressed.
She merely nodded and slowly pulled you in by your neck. You obliged and kissed her until you both needed air. She let out a surprised gasp when you gently flicked her nipple.
“Please don’t tease me draga” she begged, eyes blown with lust.
You slowly trailed your hand down her body, groaning when you felt her wetness.
“You’re absolutely soaked, baby” you whispered into her ear.
She merely whimpered as your fingers slowly collected her wetness. It was at this moment that Nat had decided she’d recovered enough. Without anyone noticing, she’d rolled over to Wanda’s side and started kissing down the other side of her neck. Wanda sighed in pleasure at the feeling. Deeming your fingers were wet enough, you slowly rubbed circles around her clit. Wanda let out a pleased hum, gasping when Nat latched onto her nipple.
“Fuck” Wanda groaned.
You took that as a signal to go faster, her eyebrows scrunched together as her mouth opened in pleasure. Short gasps and moans left her freely. Her one hand grabbed the back of your head while the other interlocked with Nat’s free hand.
“Please” Wanda gasped, “Inside.”
You immediately thrust two fingers into her, your palm rubbing against her clit deliciously.
“Yes. Yes” She chanted, getting closer and closer.
Nat had decided it was the perfect moment to kiss Wanda senseless. The feeling of Nat kissing her and your fingers in her were too much for Wanda, she came with a loud moan. Nat greedily swallowed it all.
You slowly removed your fingers from Wanda and brought them to your mouth. Both Wanda’s and Nat’s eyes darkened as you let out a moan.
“God the both of you taste exquisite” You said hungrily.
Wanda’s breath hitched as you made your way down her body, desperate to taste her from the source.
You licked her slit, parting it with your tongue. Wanda let out whimper at the feeling. You slowly inserted your tongue in her vagina, causing Wanda to let out a low ‘fuck me’.
“I believe that’s exactly what we’re doing, kotenok” Nat replied huskily.
Wanda let out a choked moan instead of replying when your nose bumped against her clit. God the two of you were driving Wanda crazy, Nat’s nails digging into Wanda’s sides while your mouth was doing.. that. She knew she wasn’t going to last long with the way things were going, instinctively her hand grabbed the back of your head as she started grinding against your face. What was surprising was that you let her, keeping your face still while Wanda got off on it. Her moans got higher in pitch as she neared her climax, her glossy eyes drifted to Natasha. Nat immediately understood what her girlfriend was searching for.
“You can cum for us, kotenok” she said, pulling Wanda into a deep kiss.
Wanda saw stars as she came, back arching and loud muffled moans leaving her mouth. You gradually slowed tongue-fucking her, letting Wanda set the pace. Eventually Wanda came to a stop, she looked at you and felt her core clench. The sight of you, hooded eyes and mouth glistening with her cum.
Fear gripped Wanda as you stood up and started walking away from the bed.
“You’re not leaving, right?” She said, feeling especially vulnerable.
You paused, turning back to her with a reassuring smile.
“I’m just getting a cloth to clean you both” you said softly.
“This also happens to be my room, darling” you added teasingly.
Wanda blushed and nodded meekly, slapping Natasha when she laughed. Nat looked at her with a raised eyebrow, Wanda merely gulped and looked away.
You returned a moment later with two washcloths, you kneeled beside Wanda and cleaned her up. She let out a slight hiss from the sensitivity to which you kissed her stomach in apology.
Nat didn’t say anything as you moved to her once you finished with Wanda, she wouldn’t admit it but she enjoyed the intimacy of the moment. Once they were all cleaned up, you gave them some shorts and oversized t-shirts to sleep in.
Nat frowned as you gave them water bottles and started to prepare for bed.
“We didn’t get to do anything for you..” She said out loud.
Wanda, too, looked back at you. You merely shook your head slightly.
“Tonight was about the two of you. We can focus on me some other time” you said with a slightly sad smile.
Neither said anything as they didn’t want to make you uncomfortable.
The three of you eventually cuddled up in bed and slowly drifted off to sleep, you being the last one to go to sleep.
Natasha woke covered in sweat, her heart pounding, and her chest heaving. Nightmares of the red room plagued her sleep. She got up with a quiet sigh, she looked over to see you sleeping on your back and Wanda’s leg over yours, quiet snores escaping the witch. Nat allowed herself to soak in the feeling of completeness before getting up and going to the common room. Thankfully Tony had installed a coffee machine and a kettle in every common room so she didn’t have to go to the kitchen just to make herself some tea. She sat with her mug and looked at the stars, tears falling down her face as the memories of that place washed over her.
Nat’s body stiffened when she heard footsteps make their way to common room only to relax when she realised it was you. She smiled, knowing you were making your footsteps heavy on purpose so she would know someone was coming. She would’ve known regardless, but she definitely appreciated the gesture.
Soon you popped your head in and knocked softly against the wall.
“Can I join you?” You asked softly.
Nat nodded, her heart warming at your thoughtfulness.
You sat beside her in comfortable silence, gazing at the stars and leaning against each other.
Eventually you broke the silence.
“Do you feel like talking about what happened?” You asked gently.
Nat merely shrugged.
“I had a nightmare about my graduation ceremony at the red room” she said sadly.
You looked at her slightly confused. You weren’t be surprised that someone as smart and worldly as Nat had a college degree, you were, however, confused at the name of the institution.
“The red room is where Natasha was forced to train as an assassin, detka” Wanda said.
You flinched at her voice, not having heard her enter. Natasha obviously had but since it was Wanda she didn’t mind it. Wanda walked and sat on Nat’s other side, intertwining their hands.
“They trained me to be a monster” Nat muttered.
You frowned.
“You’re not a monster N-“ you began
“You don’t know that.” She interrupted exasperated. She got up and started pacing around.
“You don’t know me. The things they did to me, the things that I’ve done. The people I have killed. My ledger is dripping red. I try my hardest to help people but it never makes up for the fact that I’ve killed people in cold blood. When a widow graduates the red room, they make sure that the widows.. can’t have kids..”
Nat’s eyes make contact with your teary ones.
Before Natasha could continue, she was engulfed by a hug from her front and back. Unable to hold back any longer, Nat let her tears flow freely. The three of you slowly sit on the ground hugging each other. When the tears stopped, you pulled back a little bit.
“You’re not a monster, darling” you reassured her.
“But I’ve killed people. Not just bad people but innocent people.” Nat said weakly.
“I know, sweetie. But something tells me that the innocents you killed weren’t by choice. And I’m well aware that you’ve killed people. It doesn’t bother me when you kill bad people. Like that Hydra guy yesterday” you told them.
Their heads snapped up in surprise.
“You knew?” Wanda asked slowly.
“I thought you had passed out?” Natasha asked, frowning.
You chuckled.
“I had” you admitted, “but I could feel it when he died.”
Natasha gaped at you, “You can do that?”
“Kind of but that’s not the point.”
“What do you mea-“
“Anyway” you said sternly.
Both Nat and Wanda grumbled about how they were definitely going to have this conversation with you. You seemed to have a habit of not divulging your abilities forthright even with them.
You continued, “You were right about one thing, Nat.. I don’t know you.. Either of you. I think we’ve jumped into this head first. Maybe we should spend some time getting to know each other..”
The other two agreed. Five minutes later, the three of you sat on the ground facing each other next to the coffee table. Each holding a cup of coffee since no one was planning on sleeping.
You took turns asking each other questions.
Natasha spoke about the red room; how they would force the girls to fight until one emerged victorious. She spoke about her younger sister Yelena, how Nat and Clint fought to destroy the Red Room.
Wanda spoke about her and Pietro volunteering for the program, how she was frequently overwhelmed by everyone’s thoughts at the time. She spoke about how her parents used to make the family watch sitcoms to learn speaking in English, and how the Stark missile killed her parents and how they waited in the rubble for two days, unable to move as the final bomb continued to beep but didn’t explode.
You spoke about how after waking up from the entire soul stone ordeal, you walked to another city, unable to handle the memories of your sister at the orphanage. You slowly discovered you powers when you saw a sick cat on the street, in attempt to comfort her you stroked her head and wished you could help her somehow. To your surprise the cats body started glowing white and soon it had run off completely healthy, unfortunately you had spent the rest of the day in an alley unable to move. When they asked you how you knew the hydra goon died, you told them that souls passing into the afterlife was similar to Wanda hearing people’s thoughts. You just get a feeling and the closer they are to you the stronger it gets. Since time works a little differently with souls, a large amount of souls passing into the afterlife at once fills you with overwhelming panic. It wasn’t always before the event occurred, sometimes during, while sometimes a little later. As for all your abilities, you said you weren’t entirely sure of them as you were still discovering them. Wanda agreed as her powers also seemed to grow gradually, scaring her sometimes.
Eventually the conversation became lighter, less emotionally taxing. The three of you spoke of your likes and dislikes. You then asked the question; if you could have a ‘thing’ with any other avenger, who would it be.
Natasha admitted how she flirted with Steve a while back, and how she briefly had feelings for Bruce.
Wanda remembered how she had a brief moment with Vision during the battle of Sokovia, how she felt a special connection with him because of the mind stone. Nat’s response was to grumble about how Wanda could ever have feelings about a damn toaster to which you just laughed.
You told them how you were a raging homosexual. The mere thought of being intimate with a boy made you shudder. They laughed at your expression, but froze when you said you’d never actually been with anyone.
“Um detka.. we literally had sex a few hours ago?” Wanda said frowning.
“I know” came the reply, “I merely meant um.. I’ve never let someone.. you know.. touch me”
Both of their eyes widened at the implication, you suddenly found the floor incredibly interesting.
“Is it because of your scars?” Natasha asked gently.
Your head shot up in surprise.
“How did you..”
“We didn’t see the entire thing. It’s just that your sweatshirt practically shredded after the mission. That’s why I draped my jacket over you.” Wanda reassured you.
“So everyone saw it? Why didn’t anyone say something?” You breathed, your chest started to feel tighter and breathing was became more of an issue.
Noticing this, both women immediately came to your side. Wanda gently stroked your arm while Nat softly told you to follow her breaths.
Once you calmed down you attempted to explain yourself but they just kissed you.
“You don’t have to explain yourself. Ever. You can always talk to us about it but we would never force you to talk or explain.” Wanda promised.
Your stomach grumbled loudly. Your face burned, whereas Wanda merely smiled.
“Is our little detka hungry?” She cooed.
“I’m bigger than both of you” you grumbled
Nat snorted in response.
Wanda gave you an affectionate kiss on your forehead, then to Natasha who just pulled her in for a kiss. Wanda pulled back after a bit and told the both of you to come to the kitchen in the next fifteen minutes while she prepares an early breakfast.
After she left, you just sat with Natasha.
“By the way..” You began, “about your graduation ceremony-“
“No.” Nat cut you off.
You looked confused.
“But I could help you-“
“No y/n. I don’t want you to feel that pain. Absolutely not. It’s something that happened to me and I have to live with it.” She said sternly, standing up.
You stood up with her, holding her hands.
“Nat from what you’ve told us, you were under anaesthesia. If you didn’t feel the pain, then I won’t either.” You tried to reassure her.
She looked at you in the eye.
“Have you ever healed a surgery before? Can you promise me it wont hurt you? I- I can’t have you go through that. It would break me. Please” she whispered.
“Sweetheart” you said as you pulled her into a hug, “I would never force you to do anything. Those… fuckers took away your choice. I’m merely giving it back. Of course I won’t do it if you don’t want to. I just want to give you the option so it doesn’t have to affect you like it does.” You said rubbing her back gently.
Nat nodded, but didn’t say anything. She leaned in to kiss you, which you readily reciprocated. You found yourself guiding her to the sofa, you pinned her arms above her out of habit.
“What if someone comes in?” Nat whispered, looking at the door.
You looked up to see the sun had risen, but it was still pretty early.
“We won’t do anything extreme” you promised.
When Nat nodded, you leaned in to kiss her. Before you could, your body was wrenched from on top of hers and Nat watched in horror as you fell back and hit the wall, hard. A small splatter of blood against the wall where your head hit it made Nat’s heart drop. She remembered how you’d said that head injuries were the worst.. She looked to see who did it only to find Bruce glaring at you, breathing heavy. His veins had a faint green shade which was growing stronger by the second.
Bruce was on the verge of hulk-ing out.. because of you.

Pls comment your thoughts!!!
Edit: if anyone is wondering how Bruce was able to throw reader against the wall without turning into the hulk, I unfortunately have witnessed firsthand how easy it is for a fully grown skinny man to throw someone like me (I’m not exactly small 5’8” 75kgs) against the wall with relative ease..

Provide and Care
Yautja x Reader
Summary: After giving birth to your first child, your body needs some serious healing to do. You were thankful to have a husband who does take good care of you.
It took you 45 long hours of hard labour.
Many of those hours you spent awake, in pain.
They couldn’t even give you pain relief, too afraid to use any dosage, fearing the side-effects of it on you or your baby.
You understood, but the pain was almost unbearable.
Due to Yautja customs, your husband had to stay out of the room, only the healer and a couple of her helpers were allowed to stay.
None of which knew exactly what to do with you.
They were used to Yautja giving birth, not humans.
Your husband nearly broke the door down, listening to you screaming in pain broke him.
And he was one of the strongest of the tribe.
But hearing his little human be in so much pain, knowing he couldn’t do a thing made him extremely anxious.
You heard his footsteps from inside, loud strides along the hallway just outside of the door. It did help you a tiny bit, knowing he was right there.
But as he stopped during his steps, silence followed.
It almost suffocated him.
The complete silence was worse than the screams of pain.
He prepared for the worst.
He prepared for that he just lost his wife and child and he couldn’t do a thing, but then, a loud cry.
A cry of a youngling, so loud, so strong, he fell to his knees.
The child was okay, now, he was worried about you.
When a healer opened the door, he was quick to rush in.
Your eyes found his and he felt so full.
All women left the room, leaving the couple with their child.
And once more, he fell to his knees, right by your side. He looked at the side of the bed, clicking his mandibles as he let out a sound.
“It’s a boy. We have a son.” he heard you, and even if human language still proved to be difficult for him, he understood the word son.
He looked up at you and then at his child, his son.
He ran a finger down your face, showing his gratitude towards you.
You were a family.
—
Your son liked to sleep.
That was clear, and you were thankful for the hours of silence.
Your body needed to heal as it went through a lot.
Giving birth to a Yautja was a difficult task.
You wanted to take a bath.
Your husband helped you into the warm water as he stayed by your side in the bathroom.
Sitting beside the tub with one hand in the water to make sure the temperature was right.
He knew you needed to heal, and so, he tried his best to always help you with anything you needed. Let that be food or a bath, and even helping with the child.
He was a great father, he liked to watch you feed your son, he adored the way you would kiss his little forehead, much like how you do it to him.
His eyes never leaving you, you could have fallen asleep in the bath.
When you got out, your husband make sure to wrap you in fur and carried you into your bedroom. You smiled when you saw your son sleeping on your bed, all curled up in his little fur, sleeping soundly.
Your husband placed you next to him and you were quick to pick him up and place him on your chest.
Your little one stirred in his sleep but soon found comfort again and fell asleep.
You smiled and placed a kiss on his little head.
You looked up and found your husband looking at the two of you as he sat down on the bed.
You smiled when you saw the shine in his eyes. When you first met, you were terrified, his eyes were the first thing you have seen when you woke up, his eyes looked empty.
But now, he had a purpose, a clan of his own. And his eyes filled with love and care.

Our girl – Part 2
Azriel x Cassian x Reader angst

Word count: 6k
Warnings: Reader unwell/not eating, depression and lots of angst.
--------
You slept through any offerings of daylight the next day.
The bustle of the infirmary was a hum to your ears, your exhaustion keeping the world a distance away. Even the healers couldn't stir you when the frequented your room, changing your dressings and checking your pulse.
You woke for a meal of simple broth in the evening, and were glad to have kept it down. You still fought feverish sweats and chills, and the ache in your stomach and chest was persistent. Madja would oversee your care as she had the evening before. She had given one instruction – the more rest, the better.
Night set on the ward again, and you were glad to be enveloped by dim lighting and quieter activity.
Unsure of when sleep had found you, you awoke in an open field. It was bright, the high-pointed sun drenching the landscape in gold, the lake in the distance sparkling and inviting. Familiarity warmed you more than the sun, yet the scene around you remained hazy.
Ears pricking at a ripple of laughter ahead of you, your heart fluttered with excitement. It was instinct to chase that voice, your bare feet pushing from the warmed grass beneath them as you broke into a run. Your skirts kicked beneath you before you hiked them above your knees, both your speed and smile growing.
Ahead was the source of the laughter, a child who also ran, her long locks bouncing with a distinct curl. Meryl. She was no more than 10 years of age, her childish laugh echoing in your ears as your heart pulled at the sight of her.
“Meryl!” you called, continuing the chase, your heels pounding to the ground as you tried to speed up. “Slow down!” You heard your own voice then, also of a child.
The setting around you flooded with detail as a lost memory found you. Your visit to your parent’s good friend in Spring Court, an Uncle of sorts, his charming lake-side cottage where you and your sister would spend hours swimming and playing – and chasing! Of course! Each day you raced to see who would reach the lake first, and Meryl had always been that little bit faster.
Meryl responded with another laugh, so innocent and carefree, as a child should be. You reached a hand out, your heart pounding as you struggled to catch up. You ached for one more chance to speak with her or to hold her, or even to see her face. But she bounded onwards without ever turning her head.
A harsh breeze blew from behind, and the golden glow of the once-memory quickly turned grey and harsh as a storm threatened the sky. The water of the lake was now violent, thrashing with unforgiving waves. You halted your run, yet Meryl bound forward, her laughter drowned by the roar of the wind.
“Meryl!” you called again, your voice now of your adult self, urgent and panicked. As you tried to resume running, you almost toppled over, your hands catching you before you could fall. Something had anchored your bare feet to the ground.
With a yell of frustration, you tried to pry your legs free. Up ahead, your sister’s figure grew smaller, her direction set for the dangerous waters.
“Please! Meryl stop!” Tears began to well in your eyes as you fought to free yourself. You saw them then, the swirls of shadows that kept your legs pinned and unmoving.
“Wha-? Get off me!” You frantically clawed at them, but instead they climbed your arms too, forcing you to the ground.
Hands were on you then, tugging at your clothes and pulling at your limbs. Shadows mixed with siphons blue and red, and swirls of night clouded your vision, between it peeks of Meryl slipping further and further away. You clutched at the roots of the grass, desperate to pull yourself free.
“Stop! I have to save her!” you begged, your voice breaking with despair. But those hands were unrelenting, so strong in their grip as you tried to summon your power. That too rendered useless, cracking to a quick fizzle without so much as a sting.
Before you could call one final plea to your sister, shadows and hands and magic smothered your mouth, drowning your cry in their hold. All you could do was watch in horror as Meryl dived beneath the thrashing waves before your vision was overcome with smoke and night, and finally black.
————
Azriel and Cassian watched as you writhed in your cot, the feverish sweat on your brow glowing in the soft fae light of the infirmary wing.
“What’s wrong with her?” Cassian whispered, his face etched with concern as he stepped closer to you. He gingerly bought a callused hand to your cheek, running one gentle stroke down the length of it.
Azriel’s frown deepened as he heard your sister’s name muttered on your lips, followed by a whimper and ragged breaths. “It’s a fever dream.” he answered, his arms folded as he kept to the edge of your cot.
Cassian looked down at you, noting the tears that stained your cheeks.“We shouldn't have come here,” he said, his jaw tight from guilt. “She’s still unwell, we should let her rest.”
He and Azriel had easily snuck into the ward, winnowing straight past the few healers on night shift, and even slipping past Madja who was buried in paperwork at the desk near the entrance of the infirmary. But now Cassian eyed the door, just as eager to leave.
Azriel was only half listening to his brother as he commanded his shadows. They climbed at the base of your cot, swirling inwards as they found their way to your face and limbs, cooling you as you continued to stir, now a little more gently. Azriel did not show his satisfaction as he watched you sigh, finding some comfort in their touch.
The sound of a curtain being harshly drawn caused the males to jump, revealing an incredibly unimpressed Madja. Azriel cursed himself silently, having used all of his shadows to soothe you without setting guard to the room.
“I don’t want to hear your sorry excuses,” she said coldly to the males, pushing past them and setting a pale next to your bed. She shooed Azriel’s shadows as if they were a mutt on the street, and they quickly scattered back to their master.
“How is she doing?” Cassian asked, eyes pleading.
“I will not disclose that to you,” the healer answered tightly. Wringing the towel within the pale, Madja wiped the sweat from your brow. Your stirring had stopped at least, and you seemed to have found a deeper slumber than before. Madja sighed now, before casting a half look to the boys. “She’s improving, but is still quite weak.”
The males nodded, your sickly skin, limp body and slick hair as evident as the healer’s prognosis.
“Do I need to have words with the High Lord and Lady of their emissaries overstepping my regulations?” Madja asked without looking their way, wringing the cloth yet again before pressing it to your neck and bust. “Not to mention violating patient privacy,” she added.
Cassian hung his head low. “I’m sorry. I don't know what we were thinking.” Azriel refused to look at the healer, his eyes never leaving you.
Madja continued to care for you in silence, allowing Cassian and Azriel to grovel for a few more moments. Picking up the pale, she made to leave your bedside before answering the males. “I have worked with enough Illyrian’s to know of your possessive nature. But I won't be so forgiving if she wakes to find you here. Already your scents have caused more harm than good. She must not know you came, it will only upset her and might unravel her progress.”
“She’s that upset with us?” Azriel asked, his gaze beyond the healer before him, still fixed on you.
“Yes,” she answered plainly. Neither of the males knew what to say. “Now leave, before I regret showing any patience for boyish brutish idiocy.”
Azriel took the risk of another tongue lashing to send a final shadow to caress your cheek, before clasping his brother’s arm and winnowing back to the House of Wind.
————
You were kept at the infirmary for another four nights without any further disturbance from your family. They asked to visit, of course, practically begging through letters and pleas to Madja. But each of their requests were left unanswered, and you too buried your need to have them by your side while you healed.
It gave you time to think of a plan – you could not stay at the infirmary forever. When you had first moved the Velaris, while training as a spy, you lived in a small apartment in the cliffs that faced the Sidra. You hadn't visited there in almost a decade, but your once-home was written to your name, and vacant.
Madja insisted on settling you in, helping you climb the stairs to your room as fatigue still lingered.
Prying the stiff wooden door open, you almost smiled at the sight of your old home. A mattress lay on the floor in the corner of the room just as you had left it – you had never been able to afford a frame on training wages. A small chest of drawers was pushed up against the wall, and the kitchenette was lined with those charming blue tiles just as you remembered.
You were thankful Madja had sent a maid ahead of time, and while the musk of an unused apartment lingered, you were glad to not have to dust in your current state. The small fireplace contained fresh logs of wood which meant there was no urgent trip to the markets either.
“This is it,” you spoke more to yourself as you ran a hand along the kitchenette before making your way over to the chest, prying a stiff drawer open.
Madja was less than impressed. “Child, perhaps you would consider more comfortable accommodation? One where the bed is not on the floor?”
“I’ll be fine here,” you answered, distracted as you searched through your old drawers, finding them empty.
“The High Lord and Lady have offered to accommodate you elsewhere–”
“I don't want their help,” you snapped, shoving the drawer back into the chest with notable anger.
She pressed her lips into a thin line. “You don't need to suffer at the cost of their mistakes, Y/N.”
You sighed then, pinching the bridge of your nose. “I won't accept their fortune any longer. This home is mine, I worked hard for it. I will be perfectly fine here while I figure out a plan.”
Madja nodded, scanning the room once over. “Do not forget to take your medicine,” she lectured before turning to the door, knowing better than to linger. There was no remedy for how quiet the apartment fell when she left, leaving you alone with your thoughts.
Mustering the little energy you had, you set your kettle to boil, waiting patiently for the steam to whistle from the tin, the only sound to fill the apartment beyond the distant hum of the town below.
After a few sips of tea, exhaustion found you again. Setting the mug of tea aside on the cold wooden floor, you crawled into bed, pulling the too-thin covers over your head and leaving your drink unfinished. With your back to the world that beckoned outside, you faced the wall instead, tracing a crack that ran across its length.
How motivated you had felt when you first moved here. At the time, you were grieving Meryl of course, but you had a plan – a one way ticket to ensure a balance in the world, to fight for some sense of justice. Never had you thought it could fail so miserably.
So you traced that crack with a weak finger, remembering your sister, mourning her with a fresh wave of pain.
Grief continued to weigh heavy on your chest the following few days. You had intentions on visiting the market, buying some food and sustaining yourself while you made a new plan. But instead you felt anchored to your mattress, the idea of cooking and bathing and facing the outside world completely overwhelming. Instead, cups of tea brewed only to be left untouched, yours eyes heavy as you watched the steam rising from the mug swirl and dance, and by the time it finally cooled you were already asleep.
And the cycle continued. In the moments you had the strength, you wept. And in the moments you didn’t, you slept.
It was after five days that Madja visited to replenish your medicine. The healer opened the door to your apartment when her knocks went unanswered, casting the first bit of natural light in the room in days. With your back facing outwards, you didn’t stir as she walked over and immediately collecting the assortment of mugs on the floor.
“Have you left this room at all?”
You offered a small shake of your head, unable to lift it from your pillow, your eyes red and stiff with dried tears.
“Have you eaten?”
Your stillness was her answer. Madja sighed. “Well we simply can't have that. I understand a loss for appetite, so I will bring some additional brews to keep you sustained.”
“I don't want them.” It took all your strength to turn over your shoulder and look at the healer, your voice hoarse having gone days without speaking.
She simply shook her head as she looked down at you. You do not have a choice, her expression read.
“Might you try to get some fresh air? Or bathe? I can assist with both if you–“
But you were already turning your shoulder to the wall, immediately exhausted at the thought of leaving your bed. “I’ll do it tomorrow Madja,” you sighed. “I’m too tired in this moment.” You didn't have the energy to wonder if she bought your lie or not.
The healer said nothing as she closed the door quietly behind her.
————
“I’m concerned for her wellbeing.” Madja sat opposite the High Lord and Lady in their study, a large willow desk between them. Rhys sat with his hands laced together tightly, a deep frown etched on his face. Feyre beside him held a sleeping Nyx, doing her best to not stir the babe while she exchanged looks of deep concern.
“She isn't eating. She barely drinks a thing, and has failed to take much of her medicine. If she continues at this rate, she will fall much more ill.”
“What can we do?” Feyre asked gently, stroking Nyx’s hair while he snoozed at her chest.
“I don’t suggests interfering at this stage. I am only here to warn you of my concerns.”
“And what happens if she worsens?” Rhys asked, his violet eyes holding the stare of the healer in front of him.
“I will call for you then. I hate to suggest the use of your daemati abilities, but if it comes down to life or death…” Madja trailed off, her hands clamping even tighter in her lap.
“We understand,” Rhys responded with a single nod, casting a knowing look to his mate. “Thank you for coming here, Madja.”
The healer stood to leave. “Do not thank me. Again, I am clear to not involve myself in what has occurred between you and Y/N. I am here purely as her healer.”
The High Lord and Lady stood too, seeing her to the door.
“Please keep us informed, and if there is anything that we can provide,” Feyre added quickly, almost desperate to convey her care.
Madja responded with a tight nod, turning to leave. And had she left only moments earlier, she would have found two Illyrians by the door, overhearing the entire conversation. But they were already on their way.
————
Lost again in deep sleep, you didn't stir as the Shadowsinger and General entered your apartment, Azriel’s shadow’s having easily pried the lock open.
The sight of your trembling figure curled up on the mattress pulled at both their hearts, your hands fisted at the covers with deep yet disturbed sleep.
Azriel stealthily made his way across to the bathroom, the sound of running water soon filling the room. With no dining table or chair in sight, Cassian set the meal they had bought in the small kitchen before quietly approaching you. He knelt down on two strong knees, brushing the backs of his fingers against your cheek before gently shaking you.
“Y/N, wake up doll, it’s us,” he spoke with a hushed voice.
Stirring slightly, you were slow to wake, blinking through the darkness as you were sure you were still dreaming. But as your eyes cleared, the large figure in front of you revealed itself – wings tucked in, hair pulled back in a signature bun, leather strapped up to his knuckles. Cassian was the definition of strength met with comfort, and it took you a few moments to come to your senses.
Your body froze before you sat up quickly, shoving his hands off of you. “Wh-wh?” you stuttered, your eyes dancing between his.
Cassian raised his palms in surrender. “It’s alright, don't panic. We’re just here to help you with a few things.”
Your found your voice then, deep from within your chest, hoarse and broken from days of crying. “Get out,” you spat.
Azriel appeared from the bathroom, watching from the doorway. You flashed your eyes to his, rage quickly filling your veins. How dare they intrude.
“We just want to make sure you’re all right sweetheart, and then we’ll go,” Cassian reasoned. He stood now, offering you his hand.
Days without eating meant the hurry you stood in caused your head to spin, black dots now dancing in your vision. But you held your ground, your voice even icier than before. “I said get out.”
“C’mon doll, let us help you for five minutes.”
“You’re idea of help undid everything I ever worked for.” You shoved at his chest, and he let you push him a few steps back, your hands trembling as you pulled them back.
“Y/N when was the last time you ate?” Azriel’s voice was gentle too, your vision reeling as you whipped your head to glare in his direction. Shaking your head, you curled your hands to fists. It was none of their business.
“Please, sweetheart,” Cassian reached for you then, which earned another shove from you.
“No Cassian! No! Do you understand you have done? Did you even consider what would happen when you decided I wasn't good enough?”
“It wasn’t like that Y/N. We had to keep you safe.” Azriel stayed by the bathroom door, his arms now crossed as shadows slowly seeped on the wooden floor towards you.
Days of isolation and exhaustion had tears pricking at your eyes already. “You are cowards. And I want nothing to do with either of you.”
“Please Y/N–,” Cassian tried one more time.
“Get out of my life.” You had never uttered words so cold. You shoved the General again, but this time he stayed put. Your gritted your teeth, seething at him. “You broke me!”
Cassian looked down at you, his brow pulling in sorrow.
“You shattered my world.” Another unsuccessful push, and you were crying. “Now I have nothing, I am nothing.”
Both of them watched you as your face crumpled, your anger rising as you punched at Cassian’s chest, too weak to cause any harm. “I hate you!”
Cassian’s eyes welled as he stood still, taking the beating without so much as a flinch. “We’re so sorry,” he whispered.
You shook your head, ignoring his apology as you began pounding against him with weak fists. “I hate you both!”
Tears now rolled down the General’s cheek as he let you continue your assault. “We’re so so sorry Y/N.”
You kept shaking your head as Cassian caught both of your wrists, holding them as he took to one knee in front of you.
“We love you,” Cassian cried, prying your fist open and kissing your palm, kissing up your arm, his thumb stroking your hand in the way he knew soothed you. “Please forgive us.”
You broke at his plea. He was a good male, they both were. But they had turned your heart to stone, turned you to someone so damaged, so unrelenting and unforgiving, someone you never wanted to be. You were a monster of their own making, and there was no undoing it. Sobs racked through your body, and it took everything you had not to crumble to the ground.
Azriel was behind you then, his shadows curling around your exposed skin, soothing you where they could. You did not fight him, not as he took your hands from Cassian, not as he too kissed your tears away while murmuring his own apologies, not even when he lifted you from under your knees, carrying you to the bathroom. You hated him, your mind screaming at you to yell and hiss and spit, to swear him from your home and from your life. But in this moment, where exhaustion and isolation loomed, you had no more fight to give.
Azriel didn’t speak as he undressed you before placing you in the tub. You were still crying as he washed you, scarred hands so attentive to your body, the sound of water sloshing and pouring over your head mixing with your laboured breaths. You kept your knees to your chest, your head turned away, but you let him scrub you clean.
He gently pulled you from the tub into a fresh towel, wrapping you in the soft cotton before lifting you again. Your apartment had come to life with a small fire Cassian had lit, low flames flickering with warmth.
Azriel moved to sit on the bed, keeping you bundled in his lap. Cassian was crouched in front of you, his hands holding a vial of stew, the steaming contents bought to your mouth on a spoon.
“Eat this,” Cassian said gently. You wanted to be stubborn, to fight them more than the pathetic amount you already had. But your stomach cramped with hunger at the scent of the stew, and you were to weak to refuse it. So you let Cassian feed you, your body growing more and more slack the fuller your stomach became. A vial of medicine was quickly tipped against your lips too, and you swallowed its contents with a small whimper.
In your exhausted haze, your hardly noticed Azriel dress you in fresh clothes, even braiding your hair before he lay you down, pulling the covers over your.
Cassian and Azriel were watching you as you fought your sleep, heavy eyes lifting to find them.
“I meant what I said.” Your voice was a mere whisper
They exchanged a look, before Cassian crouched to pull the covers closer to your chin. “We know.”
There was a beat of silence. “I want you to leave me be.”
“Not until you start taking care of yourself,” Azriel spoke, his voice soft yet strict. You didn't have any energy to fight back, to tell him he could blame himself for the spiral you had entered.
“Go,” your rasped before turning your back to them, enticed by the comfort of sleep with a full belly, clean clothes and warm apartment.
“Rest up Y/N.” Cassian’s words were a lullaby you couldn’t fight.
“We love you,” Azriel added, and the last thing you felt was the caress of cool shadows at your neck before you drifted off to a dreamless sleep.
————
Waking to sunlight, you felt notably stronger than you had in days. You knew it was because of the care Azriel and Cassian had provided, which frustrated you to your core.
Azriel’s words rung clear in your mind. They would not leave you be until you started to take care of yourself, so you would leverage the strength you had to come up with a plan.
It only took a few days for your Uncle to reply. Yes, he still had his home by the lake. Yes, you could stay with him as long as you needed. There was work to be done in Spring Court, rehabilitation and building after Hybern had depleted almost every resource from the lands, Tamlin not yet strong enough to recoup his court after the war. You could find sanction there, help others and distract yourself with work. And most importantly, distance yourself from the people you once loved.
With your next steps laid clear, you sent a letter to the River House, asking for one final favour.
————
Rhysand was waiting at the River House terrace alone as promised. Cloaked in signature black, he watched the stars dance in the night sky with a gentle grip on the railing, his back to you as you approached.
This was the same terrace that had hosted many evening drinks, jokes and conversations shared with your family, and even offered the much needed escape away from the buzz of various balls and celebrations. A twinge of pain stabbed at your heart at those memories. Today, it was just a terrace, a mere meeting point before you stepped towards your new life.
It was unsurprising Rhys had heeded your instruction to meet you alone, you knew he would do it. You wondered if he lied about his whereabouts, or if he instead warded your presence from the others. He had likely hidden your scent from Cassian and Azriel, but what about his mate?
Saying goodbye to Feyre and Rhys at the same time had felt far too painful, impossible even. While they were equals, High Lord and Lady as well as mates, they were still very different beings. Feyre was too forgiving, too caring and loving to have reached this point on her own. It needed to be Rhys, you needed to direct this at someone who could take it, someone who deserved it.
“How are you feeling?” he asked, turning now, hands sliding to his pockets. You ignored his question, stopping a few paces away. Tension hung heavy between you.
“Thank you for meeting me,” you said tightly. Rhysand didn't speak, but offered an arm to the seating behind you. You sat down silently, your last act of obedience.
“I can no longer serve the Night Court,” you said plainly.
Rhysand didn’t flinch, wise enough to have known this was coming. “That does not mean you don't have a home here,” he answered calmly, as if that logic was reason enough to stay.
You shook your head stubbornly. “Please accept my resignation.”
Rhysand sighed then, leaning forward on his elbows to level a look at you. “I’m aware, Y/N, and I accept. This formality isn’t necessary.”
You knew that, it wasn't why you were here. Rhysand waited patiently for you to continue.
“I need a favour.”
“Anything,” he responded almost instantly.
“I need you to let me leave.”
Rhysand sat back now, a small frown pulling at his brow. “The choice has always been yours.”
Shaking your head, you looked up at the High Lord. “I don't trust that wherever I go, I won't be followed.”
Rhysand raised his brows.
“After recent events, I know Azriel and Cassian won't allow me that freedom.”
Rhysand let out a quick breath before nodding once, violet eyes finding the nights horizon. “I’ll ask them to adhere to your wishes.”
“As if that is enough,” you bit back, ice laced in your tone. “Pull rank, use your power, lie or cheat or trick, I don't really care. Just make it happen, it’s the least I deserve.”
Rhysand breathed quietly as he studied you. “Consider it done,” he said finally.
Gratefulness was an instinct, but you stubbornly bit down your thanks. Instead, a moment of silence fell between you.
“Where are you going?” Rhys pried.
“Do not ask me that.”
“I care for your safety.”
“I don’t want your care.”
Rhysand audibly sighed then, one hand reaching at the distance between you, finding place on the chase. “Tell me, Y/N. Say it out loud.”
You flashed your eyes to him. He looked back at you, his expression worried, concerned, pitying. Gods you hated that look.
“There is no point,” you said coldly, struggling to hide the grit of your teeth.
“I can take it,” he said softly.
Rage coursed through you at an uncontrollable speed. “You think I'm sparing you?” You let out a cold laugh, moments away from that savage, lethal switch, your power now stinging at your fingertips.
“I think you’re far from having faced the truth.”
A snarled escaped you, and you could feel your power surge, igniting your irises with a brilliant yellow. Had you not been so blind with anger, you might have realised this was exactly what Rhysand intended.
“It’s the truth you seek then?” you began. “How about the fact that you have plagued my heart with more hate than I ever believed possible. Shall I tell you of the shame that haunts me day and night that I let myself trust you for all these years? Or that I was naive enough to think I could find another family after Meryl’s death? But it would seem the only family I have is dead, and it has in fact always been that way. You broke me Rhys, you all broke me. I was a fool to have loved you so dearly, and ignorant to believe you ever loved me in the same way.”
Hot, angry tears streamed down your face, washing away the current that glowed in your eyes. Pressing a hand against your heart, you tried to smother the ache that throbbed at your confession. “You preach of a better court, one of choice and freedom and honour. But you snatched that away the moment it was mine for the taking.”
Rhys had kept his eyes on you, his face breaking with a little more sorrow at each sentence you spoke. “You’re right,” he said. “You’re absolutely right.” He waited a moment before placing a gentle hand on your knee. “Mother above cannot convey how sorry I am Y/N.”
You shook your head, tears welling and blurring your vision. It wasn't enough, you knew that, and Rhys knew it too.
His voice was even more gentle as he leaned forward. “I love you Y/N. Well all love you.”
Your voice was small now. “Not in the way I loved you. Not in the way family should love one another.”
“I disagree,” he countered. “You have to understand, as your High Lord, I would never send you to your death knowingly.”
“I wouldn't have died in vain,” you quietly, breaking his gaze with a flicker of shame. “All I ever wanted was a chance to make things right.”
You shocked yourself with the weight of your words, the extent of your willingness to avenge Meryl was something you hadn't even admitted to yourself. You would have died with content knowing you had at least tried to kill Alvar. But Rhys had seen that in you, well before you understood it for yourself. And together your family decided instead to keep you safe.
“I was hoping your motivation no longer overthrew your will to live,” Rhys admitted. With a deep sigh he cupped your chin in a parent-like way. “Look at me.” Whether you liked it or not, your eyes found his.
“Imagine I had taken the time to let you kill Alvar and instead he escaped, and innocent Velarians were hurt because of it – would you forgive me for putting your needs above their safety?”
Your eyes welled. “How could you ask me that Rhys?”
“I’m not trying to upset you. I’m just trying to show you the weight of the decision I had to make.” He offered you a broken smile, reaching to swipe away a tear that rolled down your cheek. To your own surprise, you let him.
“That is not the only issue here.” Your voice was thick, your throat strained as you contained the sob that jerked within. “You’ve asked me to see it from your perspective, now please consider mine. You collectively decided that the mission would be kept a secret. You banded together to act dishonestly, knowing it would ruin me. How can I ever trust you again? How am I supposed to see you as my family?”
Rhys closed his eyes as his brows gave a painful tug, a deep breath pushing out through his nose. A large hand rested gently on your knee, his thumb swiping in a sympathetic way.
“I’ll admit Y/N – I knew that this would hurt you, but I never thought we’d lose you entirely.”
You sniffed. “Then you underestimated me.”
Rhys’s violet eyes found yours, sincerity and admiration shining in the stars that beheld them. “I did. I absolutely did.” He took another deep breath before speaking. “I’m a fool to have underestimated your loyalty, your dedication and your bravery. Over 500 years in existence, and I should have known that was never mine to control.”
You stared back at him, and while the ache in your heart was far from cured, a small sense of calm washed over you. It was relief you desperately needed – to finally be understood. “Thank you for saying that,” you croaked.
Rhys watched you with a pained smile. “I only want good things for you Y/N, wherever you choose to be. You will always have a home here if you want it, if you can ever forgive us for what we did.”
And in those words, a new well opened in your heart, one that you had not seen coming.
Hearing Rhys acknowledge your decision to leave the Night Court was devastating, so much so that your hand instinctively pressed agains your heart again. There would be no more fighting or pleading, no more fists thrown or cries of rage and confessions of love. He would let you go, because you had asked it. It was the least you deserved, yet it hurt in an entirely new way.
Ahead of you, the path of solitude lay clear. You had fought for it without any idea how painful it would be to take that first step. You couldn't help the sob that escaped you as you dropped your head to your hands.
“I never wanted to leave,” you admitted through ragged breaths.
Rhys bought a gentle hand to your back. “Then stay.”
“I can’t! I can’t stay here. I am so angry with you, all of you! And I don't think I’ll ever be strong enough to forgive this, not fully.” Your cries were uncontrollable as you tried to quiet them with your hands.
Rhys was stroking your hair as he said ever so softly. “I know.”
You sniffed, blinking up at your High Lord. “There’s nothing left for me here.” There was a cold bite to your words, even as you let him comfort you.
“I know,” he repeated with that same softness and understanding.
You watched him for a moment longer. Here he was, everything you needed in a High Lord – a leader and a friend, saying all the right things in all the right ways. But he was flawed, like anyone, and that flaw had been your downfall.
“I will be leaving Velaris tonight. Please, don't ask for my whereabouts. I need… I need a clean break.”
Rhys brow twitched before he nodded tightly. “You have my word.”
Gathering yourself, you stood to smooth your skirts before looking up at your High Lord for the final time. “I will miss Nyx dearly.”
Pain sliced across Rhysand’s face in a way you had never seen, tears immediately pricking at his violet eyes. He swallowed, containing himself still. “I wish it could have been any other way Y/N, truly.”
“As do I.”
And that was all that could be said. You turned from him, pacing towards the exit while casting your eyes to the magnificent array of stars, searing the Velarian night sky to memory as you admired its beauty for the final time.
“You must know!” Rhys spoke out, a hint of urgency in his tone. “It was fear Y/N. It was fear of losing you, not ever a lack of love.”
Glancing over your shoulder, you nodded once, a broken smile on your lips. “I know,” you spoke, biting back the quiver in your lip. “I know that now.”
And you let those words be your last at the Court of Night.

The Blessing to Your Curse - Part 2 (Ryomen Sukuna x Reader)
I finally finished writing part 2, it was originally quite short but I managed to write over half of it in the last few hours while doing genshin dailies in the background lmaooo, anyway I hope you enjoy this part, it's been a few weeks in the making, and it's starting to kick off a little more! I'm super excited to write more for this series :)
Part 1 here!
Warnings: none really? quite fluffy, mentions of experiments later on but nothing described
Word count: 2.8k
“Brat, let me talk to her,” “No, you don’t deserve to,” “You can’t keep me suppressed forever! You and that stupid white haired sorcerer, you can’t keep me away from her!” “I’ll let you talk to her when you let me sleep peacefully for once!”
You’d been walking down the hallway of your house to the bathroom when you heard Yuji talking to himself. Or more accurately, talking to the curse inside himself. Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, who also happened to be your best friend and potential lover from a life you lived, lost, and then forgot a thousand years prior.
You knock tentatively on the door, “Yuji? May I come in?” “No! He’ll only get worse,” He grunts the last part but you crack the door open slightly, “Please Yuji, I can try asking him to leave you alone,” You hear shuffling and sheets moving and then the doorhandle is pulled from your grasp, his eyes dark with exhaustion as he looks down at you. He steps aside to let you in the room and you feel Sukuna’s energy reaching eagerly for you like a child would reach for his mother, seating yourself on his bed. He sits in front of you and brings his legs up to match your crossed position, “You really think he’ll leave me alone?” “I can’t make any guarantees, but I’ll see what I can do,” You say.
He sighs softly, his head drooping down and his eyes closing, before the familiar tattoos form beneath his skin and you almost feel you can see the changes to Yuji’s physical appearance as they happen. They’re subtle, and when he looks up again with all four eyes this time around you find yourself noticing the larger face shape and the fact his eyes are narrower. “They’re pathetic idiots, why won’t you help me take over this body? Why won’t you let me take you away?” He growls. You reach a hand forwards and take one of his, stroking the back with your thumb as you let your eyes trace over his body, Yuji’s grey sweatpants and plain yellow shirt looking so out of place on his body from what you remember in the Heian era.
His gaze is almost as heavy as Gojo’s six eyes, you can tell he’s getting impatient for your reply so you tilt your head, “Because we are different,” You murmur, “Though I remember you, and I remember me, I know that this body did not live through the trauma of our childhood, does not share that burden, and I fear you may resent me for it,” His hand finally grips yours in return, you can feel the taut of his muscles wanting to yank you closer as he hisses, “I made a binding vow, I sacrificed what was left of my humanity to avenge you, no matter how much we’ve changed since your death I will never break that vow, do you hear me?”
His nails prick into your skin but you don’t give him the satisfaction of a flinch. “Sukuna…” You murmur, squeezing his hand in return, “You said the world would be right when you found me again, but… as right as your world may seem, mine is on the edge of falling apart,” You’ve known for a long time that something was coming, and as soon as Yuji was introduced to you you thought the ‘something’ that haunted your dreams was Sukuna’s return, but a few more unexplainable nightmares later you knew whatever it is is definitely still coming, and it’s much worse.
“Your vow only stretches to me and my wellbeing, and while I am a well-trained sorcerer, I am first and foremost a healer,” He looks wholly unbothered by your words but you press on, “You promised to protect me, well answer me this Sukuna, my heart is a part of me is it not?”
He refuses to meet your eyes, stubborn as ever, but when you let go of his hand he reaches for it again before you get too far away, this time giving in to the urge to yank you towards him.
You tumble into his lap as he cradles the back of your head to look up at him, “No, no, don’t look sad, I can’t handle that,” He’s never been the best at comforting you but you always managed to find some semblance of comfort and meaning in his words, “Just… tell me what you mean, and don’t call me Sukuna I hate how it sounds from your lips,” You manage to right yourself, feeling entirely out of place but completely at home in his arms.
“My heart belongs to the people of Jujutsu High as much as it belongs to you,” You murmur, feeling trapped within his crimson gaze, unable to escape, “If they die in the midst of whatever is coming, I fear my heart will go with them,” His nostrils flare and you can feel the raw heat of his cursed energy piercing your skin but he inflicts no wounds, hands gripping tightly, “They don’t deserve your heart, it’s mine, can’t you find a way to get me my own body?” He growls.
Your face twists sadly and tears well up in your eyes, “I don’t know,” You murmur, “Maybe, with my abilities, but I can’t guarantee anything especially if it puts me in the line of fire from Gojo or the higher ups,”
You hear him growl, his teeth sharp as he grimaces, “I didn’t make a binding vow to protect you all those years ago just to allow it to be broken by one brat who can’t even survive a special grade on his own,” His grip on your arms is both painful and comforting and you cup his cheek, “I won’t let the vow break, Ryomen, vessel or no vessel,” He’s forced to meet your gaze and you resist the urge to poke him, “You’re one proud self-centred piece of shit you know that?” “If I’m self-centred you’re a part of that self, like it or not you’re stuck with me,” He grunts, his eyes softening as his grip loosens.
You sigh, letting your hand fall and sitting back off his lap, “Look, I’ll do it, the body thing, I will really try, but only because you actually asked me to,” His wolfish grin makes you huff, “And only if you help me convince Gojo by getting along with the sorcerers for once, because there’s something worse than you coming,”
His face is blank and he sniffs, “I’ll protect you, that’s what I promised, so if that means I have to help some idiotic sorcerers claim victory over a threat supposedly worse than me then so be it,”
“I can’t believe I’m helping you,” You grumble, “You know I could get in a lot of trouble for this,” “Such a pity I’m your only weakness,” He teases, running his tongue over his teeth with a predatory look in his eyes. “Mess with the bull and you’ll get the horns, I’m not as physically restricted as I used to be,” You chastise, “And if you don’t play along I refuse to risk my place here just to save your ass,”
With a roll of his eyes the tattoos fade from his face and Yuji returns, yawning widely, “What did you guys talk about?” He mumbles, rubbing his eyes. You tilt your head, “I made a deal with him that can benefit us,” You shake your head, “But you don’t have to worry about that, he won’t hurt me, so if he goes off the rails all I need to do is throw myself off a cliff or in front of his technique and he’ll stop,”
“You have an awful lot of faith in a thousand year old curse who treats everyone like a piece of crap,” He side-eyes you, clearly suspicious, but you brush it off, “Yuji, let me just assure you, he doesn’t do it for no reason. His village, my village, was afraid of him, they treated him like dirt and then exiled him and expected him to go quietly,” You touch his arm softly, “I did everything I could to prevent him from turning on everyone, but my village was swarmed with curses and I died in his arms,”
His eyes soften slightly as you recite your memories, “He made a binding vow to reunite with me, he’s not going to risk that just to return to punishing the world, I know him better than anyone because I was there, I was his only hope in a world that punished him for existing,”
“Was it his cursed energy?” Yuji asks, tilting his head slightly. You nod, “It’s always been that strong, it was volatile and uncontrollable and he hurt people when he was much younger, he’s spent his life refining it and trying to prove he could control it, and it took me dying for him to finally find the strength to wrestle it into something he could wield properly. I was the only person that treated him like a human, but he and I were the same,”
“Your opposite energy, right?” You nod at his inquiry, “He and I were like two sides of the same coin, I suppose it could have been some sort of coincidence that we were in the same place, but I was treated with reverence and respect where he was ridiculed and rejected,” Yuji yawns again and you brush some hair back from his forehead, “Get some rest, I’m sure Gojo will want you at peak performance for training,” He nods, slumping back against the pillows and falling asleep with soft snores almost instantly.
You sigh softly, standing to leave the room. Things just got a lot harder, you’ve now got to figure out how to use your abilities to create an entirely new body for Sukuna based on what you remember from the Heian era, and then you’ve got to make sure that nobody figures out it was you, lest you break all trust placed in you.
You like to imagine that if your life was a movie, the next few weeks would have made up a training montage under some popular tune like Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler or We Built this City by Starship, but unfortunately the vast majority of your time is spent on unsavoury experiments on curses that leave you soaked with sweat and make you vomit from exertion.
You’re disgusted with yourself, knowing that you’ve stooped to levels that Noritoshi Kamo once did. Each new mission comes with an opportunity to test out your developing skills. An arm here, a leg there, every so often a face pops out at you, but nothing human. You want the best for Sukuna, as morbid as that seems, and you will not settle for anything less than entirely human.
But, creating life from nothing but cursed flesh is one of the hardest things you think has ever been attempted in Jujutsu history. You’re sure it can be done, you know that all you need is to channel enough of your energy and focus into it and you’re sure you’ll be able to recreate his body perfectly.
Only one person seems to notice the change in your demeanour, and he has finally been able to remember the conversation you shared with Sukuna that night. Itadori approaches you seated in the clearing behind your house and sits beside you, “Sukuna thinks I can help you, with the body thing,” He says bluntly.
“Don’t tell me that,” You murmur, rubbing your eyes tiredly, “You’ll be punished as an accomplice if I’m discovered,” “You just need my DNA, it’ll help you create a clone of my body and then-” You cut him off with a side-eye and a hand clapped over his mouth, “Yuji, you’re not listening, they’ll know, and they’ll punish both of us, he’s dangerous,”
He grabs your hand, superior in strength, and lowers it from his mouth, “If it gets this idiot out of my head, then I’m willing. I trust you, even if I don’t trust him, and I know you’ll stop him from doing anything awful,” He shrugs, “Besides, its not like they weren’t going to kill me the moment they found out Sukuna was inside me anyway, what’s an extra crime on my head in the grand scheme of things?”
You tear up, sniffing quietly, “I’m sorry,” You murmur, “I shouldn’t be asking this of you,” “You love him, we all do crazy things for the people we love,” He’s oddly mature for his age and it scares you a little, “Whatever, just make sure next time we’re on a mission together you let me do this for you, okay?”
“As much as I hate this plan, I’ll do it,” You murmur, “But not at the expense of a life, if someone innocent is in trouble they come first, agreed?” He nods firmly, “Save as many people from unnecessary death as possible,” After squeezing his hand gently and metaphorically sealing the deal, there’s no going back. One way or another, Ryomen Sukuna will return to the mortal plane, for better or for worse.
It comes as no surprise to you that the night you spoke with Yuji, you find yourself dragged into a deep sleep where you wake in Sukuna’s innate domain. A place you’ve only seen once before, in a waking nightmare that gave you a glimpse of his past through his eyes. “Sorry about the mess,” He rumbles from atop his throne of skulls and bones, “I don’t normally have visitors beyond the brat,”
You cross your arms, sitting in the oddly not wet pool of suspicious red liquid, “You didn’t even think to spruce it up in here a little bit for my sake? You brought me here after all,” He shakes his head, standing and then walking down the pile of bones to your side where he crouches, “I didn’t bring you here, you fell in on your own,” He pokes your cheek, “Guess I should’ve known this would happen when I opened my domain to you,”
You frown, “I… fell?” He nods, “Probably the result of over-exhaustion, and the relief of finally having some sort of solution to the problem I gave you,” He shrugs, “Who can say?” He seems distant, detached, it hurts you to know he hasn’t reached for you since that night you spoke.
You stand up and look around, taking in the endless black void beyond the massive ribcage that encapsulates his throne, “Why now? Why’d you invite me here?” “I wanted to see you, is that so much to ask?” You shake your head, “You could just come to me through Yuji,” “And have the brat listening to everything we say? You’re crazy if you think I’d let that happen,”
You sigh, “Yeah, but why now? You haven’t spoken to me in weeks, and I refuse to do this for you if you’re keeping secrets from me, I’m not weak Ryomen, not like I used to be,” He stands beside you, looking down at you with an unreadable expression, and suddenly the space around you changes. A field of grass, painfully familiar, and a pair of young teenagers in the distance laughing playfully.
Why is he showing you this? Why is he rubbing salt against an open wound? “When I look into your eyes, I see her,” He murmurs, looking over at the memory of your past, “I see her, but I also see you, and I see how you’ve changed, I see your differences and I see how you’ve stayed the same,” You remain quiet as his memory tackles yours into the grass, handling you delicately as he always did.
“I’m… readjusting,” He looks down at you, his arms crossed and face still painfully neutral, “You were born in this era, you know your way around, I’m still the same as I was, I’m still a thousand years old,” He points to the memory, “That is me, but that isn’t really you, just your mind,” You yearn to comfort him but you don’t know how, you don’t want to risk alienating him from you more than he already is.
“I suppose there’s nothing I can really say to convince you otherwise,” You say slowly, “Considering the fact it took a jolt of your energy to jog my memory, but… I am here, and I want to be that for you again,” You gesture out to the field which has begun to fade. He sighs, his shoulders slumping just a bit, “You won’t be caged for much longer,” You murmur, reaching your hands up and resting them on his cheeks, your thumbs brushing just under his second pair of eyes softly.
“Don’t make promises you may regret,” He mumbles and, if you didn’t know any better, you would have thought for a moment he might begin to cry, but he remains silent. The domain falls away around you and you’re left with the feeling of his face in your palms as he lets you go and you’re allowed to return to sleep.
thanks for reading!!!

The Healer
Masterlist Natasha Masterlist
Word Count: 3588
Relationship: Natasha x Reader (but not really)
Summary: Y/n was a prisoner of Hydra where she was experimented on to give her the powers to heal. She was then forced to use those powers to heal any person Hydra sent her way. That was until the Avengers stormed the base she was held at. Surely her life would only get better from here....right?
Y/n's POV:
You'd think being an Avenger is a dream. Maybe for the others it is. But for me it's a nightmare. For the majority of my adult life, I had been held captive by Hydra. In that time, I was tortured and tested on. So much so that I now have the ability to heal people. I would dream for the day that I might escape and be able to use my powers for good, rather than healing those causing pain and destruction.
Then one day, the Avengers came and stormed the base I was being held in. Because of my powers, I was being forced to heal the wounded and when Tony Stark came across me, he assumed I was one of them. He knocked me out and I woke up in a new cell. Granted this one was slightly more comfortable.
Three months I spent in there, only being let out if it was to heal one of the team if they were hurt. I had tried to explain to them that I have never and will never support Hydra, but they wouldn't listen to me. I gave up in the end, realising that they would never listen or believe me. After some time had passed, Fury decided that I would become part of the Avengers or be sent straight to the raft. I obviously decided the former and soon was allowed out of my cell and into a room of my own. Not that I was ever permitted to leave the compound, except for missions.
I had hoped that over time, maybe I could earn the team's trust. That I could prove to them who I really am and maybe even make some friends. But I couldn't have been more wrong. None of them cared for me. I wasn't welcome at team meals. I was to eat on my own. So, you can imagine that I was never allowed to team building events or parties.
I was simply a healer to them. And an evil one at that. I was used to go on endless missions and heal anyone who was injured. From small cuts to stab and gun shot wounds. They had no care for the impact that it was having on my body. Each time I heal, it drains me. The more severe the injury, the long it would take for me to recover. But to the team, it was a price I had to pay for my sins.
I wasn't just sent on Avenger missions either. Any important Shield ones, I would be made to tag along. There were times I struggled to see the difference to Hydra. I was being used in exactly the same way but here, I had a more comfortable room. But I was still a prisoner, being used for powers I never asked for.
It didn't take me long to realise that I would never be able to show the team that I'm no threat and was taken against my will. Not even Wanda, who did actually volunteer to work with Hydra, gave me the time of day.
I would hear the snide comments and questioning of my worth. Then Steve would speak up and talk about how valuable I was. But not because of me as person, but because of my powers. If they could take my powers from me and give them to someone else, I know they would do it in a heartbeat and I would be locked away for life on the Raft.
I started to train myself to help with trying to keep my mental health in check. Some days it was hard to get out of bed. I'm ashamed that I have considered ending everything. Maybe I wasn't meant for this world. But then I would snap out of it and know that I have to fight. So, I taught myself how to. I wasn't too bad, and Steve found me one day and sparred with me. He was impressed and told me that I would be able to support in more than just a healing capacity. It didn't change his view of me as a person though.
So that's what happened. I was expected to fight alongside them, as well as heal them. Although my stamina increased overtime, I still couldn't control the impact on my body when healing someone. But once again. The team didn't care when I would practically crawl back onto the QuinJet. In fact, I'm sure they would leave me behind if they weren't so desperate for my healing abilities.
Today, we're heading out on a big mission. They have found one of the main Hydra bases. Our job is to go in, get intel and blow the place up. Natasha and Wanda will be going in and getting any information they need. Steve will plant the bombs, whilst the rest of us keep the Hydra agents busy.
There weren't too many injuries that I had to heal. Barton took a knife to the stomach, but it missed any vital organs, so wasn't too bad to heal, whilst Sam broke his arm when his wingsuit was taken out and he fell to the ground. It meant my energy was up and I was able to focus on fighting and making sure I did my job to the best of my ability.
As the fighting grew more intense, my comms crackled and I heard a shaky voice coming through. "Y/n. We need support in the comms room. Nat's been hit. I-it's bad." Wanda calls out.
Nat's POV:
This mission was going to be a huge success if we could take this base out. It was one of Hydra's 4 main bases. It would significantly affect their ability to carry out attacks on the scale they have been doing so.
Wanda and I were able to get inside relatively easily with the others fighting out the front. Wanda used her powers to deal with any agents we came across and protected me whilst I started to download as much information as I could. I then started looking through the rows of filing cabinets, hoping to find something useful. Whilst flicking through one of the draws, I see a picture of someone I recognise.
It's Y/n, though she looks far younger. Maybe 18. Intrigued, I start flicking through the file, but soon regret it when I read her history. My hand flies to my mouth and I gasp as I see the evidence that proved what Y/n had told us was true. She truly was a prisoner. Captured when she was 19 and held captive for 7 years. She wasn't born with her powers but was instead tested upon. My whole body fills with regret and I feel like I could be sick. We have treated her like the enemy for so long when she was the victim.
"What is it?" Wanda asks me as she appears by my side. "We were wrong about Y/n." I state, handing her the file, before running my hands through my hair. "Oh my God. She was telling the truth." She gasps herself at the realisation. "How could we treat her so badly. We basically have held her prisoner and forced her to heal us. It's no different to what Hydra were doing to her." I exclaim, anger building within me at how we treated someone who just needed our help.
"We can fix this. When this mission is over, we'll show this to the team, and we'll work to make this right." Wanda suggests. "Assuming she could ever forgive us." I mumble, knowing we have done far too much damage for her to easily accept our apology.
My guard is down as my mind races over all the horrible things I've said, that we've all said. I don't see the guards coming in the room behind us. Both Wanda and I are too late to react before two gun shots go off. I feel the burning instantly in my chest and stomach as my mouth starts to fill with blood. "NAT!" Wanda calls out, rushing in my direction. Not before using a blast of her red magic to end the agent that had managed to hit me.
My legs start to wobble, and I fall to the floor in a heap, my hands trying to stop the bleeding. Wanda drops to her knees and presses her hands down firmly on my wounds to help in the task, but it's all in vain as her own hands are soon painted in red. "We need Y/n." Wanda mumbles before activating her comms. Her eyes never leave me as they fill with tears. I know it's bad. I'm going to die if Y/n doesn't get here in time. "Y/n. We need support in the comms room. Nat's been hit. I-it's bad." Wanda calls out for our teammate. The one that we have failed so badly.
We're amazed at how quickly she gets here, she's out of breath as she drops to the floor besides me. I can feel my life slowly seeping away. "It's ok Agent Romanoff, I've got you." She smiles at me. I can never understand how she is so kind in these moments. She's soft and caring as she heals you. Then once it's done, we treat her like the enemy we thought she was.
"You guys need to get out of there. The bombs have been set and are due to detonate in a couple of minutes." Steve informs us and I see panic form in Wanda's eyes. "Go Miss Maximoff. I've got this." Y/n tells the witch. She's reluctant to leave as Y/n places her hands over my stomach to start healing. "GO! I promise that Agent Romanoff will be safe." She shouts, taking Wanda by surprise. Reluctantly, Wanda gets to her feet and walks backwards slowly. "I'll see you at the jet." She says, before running back through the building to safety.
I look to Y/n who is focusing on the job at hand. I can feel the warmth as my body starts to heal. Though with each passing second, I see Y/n's face become paler. Her eyes struggle to stay open and it's then I realise the real impact of healing someone does to her. Especially when they are so close to death. We've tortured her ourselves as we've forced her to heal us.
Her body suddenly crumples to the floor, and I look down to see my wounds completely healed, not even a scar. "Y/n, wake up. Stay with me." I say, moving to her side, tapping her face gently to get her to wake. Her eyes flutter open and I smile at her. "Thank you." I say, though my heart breaks at the affect my words have on her. I don't think we've ever thanked her for saving our lives. She's done it on numerous occasions.
"You both need to get out now. The bombs are due to detonate any second now." Steve yells down the comms. "Go." She indicates to me, but I shake my head. "Not without you." I tell her, wrapping my arm around her trying to lift her. She's a dead weight but I know I can carry her out. "Stop." She says firmly. "We won't make it if you try and get me out." She says with a look of acceptance on her face. "No, I won't leave you behind." I reiterate, but she uses what little strength she has to push me off her. "It was only a matter of time until I was no longer useful to you all. Go and save yourself." She snaps at me, and I realise that she thinks the only reason I'm saving her is because of her powers.
"No Y/n. I know the truth now. You deserve a happy life. One where you chose your destiny. I won't let you die here in this hell hole." I tell her firmly. "Mr Stark, are you able to come and get Agent Romanoff?" Y/n asks through the comms. "We're both getting out of here. Do you hear me?" I shout just as Tony confirms he's a minute out.
We feel the ground shake as the first bomb goes off, it's only a matter of time until they reach us. "Maybe my death will purge me of my sins." Y/n says through laboured breath. "No, you have nothing to atone for. We do. For how we've treated you. I'm so sorry Y/n. We never should have done what we did to you. It's unforgivable." I try to apologise to her, cupping her face.
Before I can say anything more, Tony blasts through a wall and grabs me in his arms. "Time to go Romanoff." He says but I fight to get out of his arms. "NO! Not without Y/n." I try to get back to the stricken girl on the floor. She can't die. Not like this. "We're going Romanoff. It's fitting that she should die in the place she called home." Tony snarls, making the anger boil within me as he runs out the hole in the wall he had just created.
Even with all my strength I can't get out of his grip, and I give in as he flies away. I watch the building below me getting smaller as we get further away. Just as we're out of danger I watch in horror as the building explodes. "NO!" I scream knowing that Y/n is in there. Tony lands and places me on the floor and is shocked when I start pushing him. "You left her there to die! You asshole!" I scream at him, my anger boiling over as the others come to see what the commotion is. "It was you or her Romanoff and that wasn't even a choice." Tony growls back at me.
"She was innocent!" I yell, taking them all by surprise. "She was telling the truth. She was never working for Hydra by choice. She was a prisoner who spent the majority of her time there being tortured. She would have thought she was free when we saved her, but instead we made her a prisoner of our own, using her for her powers." I rant angrily, tears falling down my cheeks.
"Come on Romanoff, she got to you. Just because she healed you doesn't mean you have to believe her." He argues back. "She's right. Y/n was telling us the truth. We've treated her like the enemy when really, she was the victim." Wanda backs me up. At our revelation, I watch as the others come to terms with what we've done. Steve's head drops as he pulls off his mask. Sam holds the arm the Y/n had not long ago healed whilst Clint looked like he had seen a ghost.
"How do we even know this is true. It could still all be some elaborate plan." Tony tries to dismiss the truth. I reach into my pocket where I had put her file and slammed it into his chest. "Read this and tell me you still feel the same." I spit at him. "We're meant to be the world's mightiest heroes. But how would people react when they hear how we treated a helpless prisoner." I fume, embarrassed by our actions.
I turn away from my team and look to the mountain of rubble in front of me. Maybe she's still alive. Maybe I can find her. With determination in my step and tears stinging my eyes, I start walking towards the rubble. "Where are you going?" Wanda calls after me. "To find her. Hopefully alive, but if not, she deserves a funeral. One showing the real hero she is." I shout back over my shoulder, my eyes locking on to the rough area she would have been.
I start moving the rubble with my bare hands, calling out for Y/n periodically. I'm praying that she responds to me, that she calls out and we're able to save her. Whilst I'm moving the rubble, I see a whisp of red, helping to move it out of the way. I look up to see Wanda, giving me a tight-lipped smile. "She's our teammate. We do this together." She tells me. Soon after the others join us, working to move as much as we can in the hopes of finding Y/n alive.
"Can you feel her at all?" I ask Wanda when we're no closer to finding her. She doesn't respond. She doesn't have to. The pain and regret in her eyes give me the answer I didn't want.
As time goes on, my hope starts to dwindle. She can't die like this. The last words said to her were out of such malice. She needs to know how much we appreciate her, how sorry we are and how much we want to make this up to her. I can see the hope fading for everyone, but we refuse to stop. Even when Fury sends Maria to get us back home. She's soon to join us, her own guilt building.
When I move a large bit of wood, I see a familiar tattoo. 98-321. Y/n has that tattoo. "OVER HERE!" I shout out to the others who are quick to head in my direction as I quickly work to remove the rubble on top of her, ignoring the blood and bruises forming on my hands. I manage to get her free and pull her into my lap whilst the others gather around. "Y/n? Y/n? Can you hear me? It's Natasha." I say to her, tapping her face. But unlike earlier, she doesn't wake.
With shaky hands, I move my two fingers towards her neck and press against her pulse point. I close my eyes tightly hoping to find any signs of life. Though if I really took in her body, I would have seen it would have been an impossible ask. "No." I whisper when I feel nothing.
I hold her close, her skin feeling cold against my touch. "I'm so sorry. Please come back to us. I'm sorry." I start to cry as I hold her limp body in my arms. I rest my head against her chest where her heart no longer beats. I don't care about the blood and dusty that is starting to cover my body. I just want to hold her, in the hopes that, by some miracle, she may understand how sorry we truly are.
"You were a hero Y/n and we didn't treat you like one. We let you suffer when you needed help more than anyone. I wish we could have saved you. Given you the life you deserved. I can only promise that we will never allow this to happen again. Believe me when I say you were seen, and your input to this team was invaluable. You have saved all our lives in some capacity or another. I'm sorry we couldn't do the same for you." I apologise to her through my tears.
A hand on my shoulder brings me back to the devastation around us. "We should go." Steve tells me, with a sad look on his face. He bends down and carefully takes Y/n in his arms. "Be careful with her!" I warn him and he nods. "We will treat her with the utmost respect. As late as that may well be now." He reassures me.
Wanda helps me to my feet, and we follow behind Steve as we make our way back to the QuinJet. The whole team is in shock. I watch as Steve lays Y/n on one of the medical beds and gently places a blanket over her. I quickly move to the seat next to her and hold her hand. I hate the idea of her being alone in this moment.
The journey back is silent as we mourn the loss of a teammate and the embarrassment and guilt settles. When we arrive at the compound a team is waiting to take Y/n's body away and I'm reluctant to allow it. I'm alive because of her. Yet she is dead because of me.
The next few days are dark. Wanda and I plan a service that Y/n deserves. We were able to trace some family. Her sister, Sam, talked of how Y/n was taken one night, and the police were never able to find her. They had assumed she was dead. She had asked why she didn't try and find her once she had managed to escape, and I had to admit that she wasn't permitted to. It's safe to say Sam wasn't too happy when she heard about how we treated her sister.
Despite that, she attended the service for her little sister. She held a lot of pain. I guess finding out that Y/n was alive all the way along only to learn she died like she did much have been hard.
The service was perfect, and the majority of Shield turned up for it. Word had gotten around about the truth and there was a great shame felt by many. None more so than me. I'm a spy, I pride myself on being able to see what others don't. But for some reason I was blinded to this. I could have saved her. She died because of me. It's something I'll never be able to forgive myself for. But I know, that I will never let anyone else be treated the same. I will also never allow anyone to forget that Y/n Y/l/n was the true hero of the Avengers.

"Just because all the others never showed you love doesn't mean no one ever will." This one with the Darkling with angst to fluff? Like maybe he keeps pushing the reader away because he's new to affection and doesn't know what to do?
A/n: this request felt so spot on for our favored tortured villain <3 thank you for the message anon!!
Darkling X Reader Word Count: 1656 | Warnings: not proofread, brief mentions of battle, hints at past abuse if you squint, super angst turns to tooth-rotting fluff
Note: dorogoy is the Russian for 'sweetheart' “Leave us.”
The Black General strode in, his eyes murderous and his fists balled at his sides. Despite the warm summer night, the chill in his voice was enough to send a shiver up everyone’s spine. The two Healers rose from the sides of your cot where they’d been tending your injuries. They bowed quickly and kept their eyes glued to the ground as they scuttled out of the tent, leaving you and the Darkling alone.
When the sounds of the retreating Healers’ footsteps had been swallowed in the gentle murmur of the camp outside, his eyes finally met yours. He looked as if he were about to break apart, his body practically abuzz with barely contained rage.
“Aleks, I’m fine,” you chided him, rolling your eyes at his dramatics. “It’s just a burn. I’ll survive.”
Darkness blossomed around him, swallowing the dim candlelight on the inside of your tent. His jaw was clenched so tightly you worried he’d break a tooth, the veins in his forehead pulsing as he tried to regain control of himself. You’d seen his power a thousand times, but even still it startled you. You smoothed your face into a mask of calm, refusing to show him your instinctual fear.
“You almost died, dorogy.” He sank down on the edge of your cot as the shadows receded into him like water soaks into a sponge. “You are decidedly not fine.”
You smiled at him, shifting slightly to make room for him on the cot next to you. He was watching you, his eyes drinking you in. You could hear his next question before he even asked it.
“Are the Healers treating you fairly?” The whisper of a threat hung off Aleksander’s words. You knew that his fear was that the other Grisha would shun you because of his affection for you. A fear you’d tried to quell a thousand times before. If only he knew how terrified the others were of hurting you, of disappointing you, or of otherwise mistreating you…
You reached out, running your fingertips lightly along the back of his hand. He watched you, waiting for an answer.
“They’re treating me perfectly,” you assured him emphatically. “I have everything I need.”
He didn’t respond immediately, transfixed by the circular patterns you wove along the back of his hand. His eyes glazed over, his shoulders dropping slightly as he let the facade of the Black General relax in your presence. You watched him carefully, wondering how he managed to maintain such composure and control in the midst of battle. You’d seen him out there, on the battlefield: an avenging angel, all rage and cruelty, his black kefta fluttering like a flag, cutting down wave after wave of Fjerdan. He’d barely flinched, barely shown any sign of his powers draining him. It filled you with a strange combination of sorrow, pride, and lust.
“Aleks?” Your voice, though quiet and gentle, snapped the moment like a dry twig. He looked up at you expectantly. “Are you alright?”
You could tell as soon as the words left your lips that you’d said something wrong. He recoiled away from you as if he were the one that had been burned. His eyes widened in a mixture of shock and horror, followed immediately by self-loathing. You reached out, but not quick enough. He rose from the cot, stepping away from you.
“How can you ask that of me? After what you saw today? After what I put you through? You want to know if I am alright?” His composure was unraveling, his dark eyes turning into bottomless pits of fury with nowhere to go but inward. He’d once told you that the most unexpected part of living so long was the extent to which he had come to loathe himself. You hadn’t understood it then, but now you caught a glimpse of just how deep Aleksander’s malice towards himself actually went.
The shadows sprung from his fingers with ease, devouring the tent’s light and swarming around you like bees. The air around you crackled with their presence, although they didn’t touch you. Across the tent, consumed by a darkness so complete he almost vanished entirely, Aleksander shook with the explosive force of his power. His chin was tipped back and his mouth open as if screaming, although the only thing pouring out of his throat was more darkness. His eyes lost their whites, now just two blackened sockets, lifeless and unholy-looking.
Terror seized you. Your heart jolted as adrenaline ricocheted through your veins. You knew Aleksander would never hurt you, although you weren’t sure how much of the man you loved was still with you in that tent.
You called out to him, but somehow your voice vanished in the space between you two. As if you’d been plunged underwater, your scream sounded distorted and dull. Aleksander didn’t even flinch.
Wincing through the pain, you flung your legs over the edge of the cot. The shadows made way for you like a river parts around rocks. The hairs on the back of your arms and neck stood up straight, your instincts screaming at you to run! Leave! Kill him! Get out!
Summoning your strength and with a sharp inhale, you forced your legs to hold your weight as you stood. The burns that climbed up the left side of your body from your kneecap to your jaw felt white hot, but you grit your teeth against the urge to pass out and took a shaky step forward. Again, the shadows pouring out of Aleksander moved to allow your passage. A distant part of you idly wondered what the rest of the camp could see, if anything, of the spectacle unfolding around you.
Your feet almost slipped out from under you in the damp grass. Your reflexes dulled by exhaustion and pain, you lost your balance and pitched forward. You struck out with your arms to brace your fall, twisting your face away from the direction of impact. There was a moment of free fall before you felt strong arms catching you, artfully avoiding your burns.
Aleksander lifted you easily off your feet in a sweeping motion. You didn’t open your eyes until you felt your back settle against the cot. When you did, a familiar face hovered over you. All trace of his shadows gone, all you saw now was a man. A leader, a saint maybe, a King certainly: but a man still, exhausted and confused.
Before he had a chance to speak, you pressed a finger to his lips. Your head was spinning with pain, but you forced yourself to stay present.
“I’m not afraid of you, Aleks,” you insisted. You held his gaze defiantly, challenging him to argue with you. For once in his stubborn life, he held his tongue and let you finish. “I don’t resent you for who you are. I don’t fight because you command me as my general, or even because you ask me as my lover. I fight beside you because I love you, and I believe in what we’re doing.”
For all his wisdom, you knew that there were parts of your heart that Aleksander would never understand. You’d accepted as much a long time ago. But you’d be damned if you let him rip himself apart over it.
He swallowed thickly, as if trying to take in what you’d told him.
“I don’t… understand. How you can feel that way. About… someone like me. Someone who is what I am. There’s… sometimes-most of the time- it doesn’t seem like there’s enough left of me to love.” You let him finish, his words coming out chopped and halting. It seemed to take almost as much out of him as his powers did, and the sincerity with which he spoke made you smile gently. When he was finished, you reached up and cupped his cheek, your thumb carefully tracing the ragged volcra scar that bisected his cheek.
“Aleks. Just because all the others never showed you love doesn’t mean no one ever will.”
You watched as his memory clicked into place, recognizing the very words he’d said to you the night he’d finally gotten you to tell him about the others. The men before him. The ones who’d tried and failed to love you, and the ones who’d only wanted to hurt you. Those had been the words he’d said, and the reason you’d fallen in love with him. You hadn’t realized how long you’d been waiting to give those words back to him.
He marveled at you for a moment as if seeing you for the first time before he spoke. “I wasn’t talking about any others,” he said quietly.
You shook your head, smiling. “Of course you were,” you answered. “The other lives, the other versions of yourself. That’s all you talk about because it’s all you know. You’ve lived with yourself for so long you’ve forgotten that there’s any way to feel about yourself but hatred.”
You let your hand drop, a sudden wave of exhaustion crashing over you. He noticed, catching your hand halfway down and guiding it to the top of your sheets.
“Dorogoy,” he started, hesitating a moment on the pet name he’d given you. “Where have you been all my lives?”
You beamed at him, finally hearing a break in the tension of his voice. He smiled back - not a broad smile, but enough to touch his eyes.
“Right here, Aleks,” you replied as you let your eyes drift closed for sleep.
You didn’t let yourself fully succumb to rest until you felt his warmth lay down next to you, his arms ever so carefully snaking around your torso. He tucked you closer to him, and you buried your head in his neck, breathing in the scent and the feel of him. You felt yourself slide off into sleep just as he started singing you an old Ravkan lullaby…

Marvel Sing For You - Chapter One of Two
Parings: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Description: When she sings she heals anyone around, she joined the Avengers as their official healer. And Steve asks her to heal Bucky.
Rating: General Audiences
Words: 909
Music was my thing, it calmed me, and healed others. My entire life, wherever I sung, people around me felt calm too, I could stop arguments by humming, it was my gift.
Not only did I have the calming effect, I could also heal with my vocal cords, it's what I did for a living, all throughout New York, I was known for healing as I sung. It felt wonderful to help people, however it wasn't all wonderful.
I occasionally had people scream at me to sing for them, if I didn't sing people would become hostile, sometimes I would be suck for hours singing for so many people in public.
Eventually Tony Stark offered me a job with the Avengers, as their official healer, I worked alongside with them and it was amazing. I even got my very own suite in the Avengers Tower, a place where I could be safe and relaxed, a place where I could sing and dance to my hearts content.
When I first started working for the Avengers, it was exhausting, they would be gone for a mission for days, sometimes weeks, and when they came back, tired and hurt from all the work they had been doing, they all gathered into the training room, and I would sing for them. Tony had even built me a stage, so I could actually perform for them, and heal their wounds with my voice.
Sometimes I would have to go out into the battle with them, I was trained to fight and heal at the same time, overall, I was happy. I loved helping people.. That's why I told Steve I'd help with his friend.
I was in the kitchen on the morning I met him, I was making a coffee when I heard Steve cough behind me, I twirled around smiling, to see Steve standing there, in his Captain America uniform, Tony and Natasha were to the side of him, and on the other side was a man, who looked as buff as Steve, he looked darker, dirtier.
"Hey kid" Tony smiled to me, he motioned to the breakfast bar, I nodded and quietly copied them, each of us sitting on the chairs. My eyes met the man's eyes, he looked so sad, so broken.
"Y/N, this is Bucky, Bucky this is Y/N" Steve spoke slowly to Bucky. I had only heard Bucky's name once, Steve had told me he lost him. I was beyond confused.
"We'll be ok" Steve smiled to Nat and Tony, and they left. I couldn't look away from Bucky, I could feel his pain, his sorrow. The one downfall of my power, I could always feel what everyone was feeling. It's why I loved helping, I loved making the pain go away. I had never known pain like Bucky's.
"I can feel his pain" I whispered, Bucky's eyes widened at me.
"Can you fix him?" Steve asked desperately.
"Yes, but it might take a while.." I explained "Does he know how I heal?" I asked, I had a feeling if I suddenly started singing it would freak him out.
"He knows" Steve smiled sadly, he lifted a hand to gently pat Bucky's shoulder, which make Bucky flinch so hard I felt myself flinch.
"I'm going to leave, let you do your thing" Steve smiled "5 minutes, that's how long I'll be gone" He explained, I nodded and watched him leave.
I turned my eyes back to Bucky, his eyes were on his hands, which were resting on the table. I stood up slowly, which got Bucky's attention, I wasn't sure he would even talk to me.
"Bucky" I whispered, his sad eyes were looking into mine, watching what I was doing, as I stepped closer to sit on the chair next to his, I felt the pain intensify.
"Is this ok?" I ask, my knees close to his, he turned his body to face mine, he nodded warily.
"Do you know what's going to happen?" I asked, he shook his head to say no, I nodded and took a deep breath, his eyes were still trained on mine.
"My power Bucky, it's weird, I'll sing and you'll feel the music.. my voice flowing through you veins, it's very personal, you'll feel me completely" I explain, he nodded to let me know he understood and then he coughed, clearing his throat.
"Y/N, please" He whimpered, I nodded, it hurt knowing how much he was hurting. I felt how much he was hurting, only I could feel.
I drew in a deep breath, closed my eyes and started to sing. I sung softly, and gentle. I felt my song reach towards him, and I heard him gasp. I've been told it feels weird at first, feeling someone else's voice. It wasn't normal, it felt weird, I had never tried healing someone this hurt.
It felt different, like it was draining me more than usual, it was exhausting, I kept singing, but I felt dizzier and more lightheaded with each word.
Steve came back into the room once I had stopped singing, I suspected he had been listening.
"How do you feel Bucky?" He asked, and Bucky shrugged.
"Better I guess" He muttered, I hopped off the chair and Steve had to catch me as I wobbled.
"It will take a few tries Steve" I smiled weakly, I hobbled over to the couch and closed my eyes, a nap would be good.

Two-Parts
Get yourself a snack, enjoy these wonderful two-parts and leave some love for the creative writers :)
●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●
1. Conflict of Interest [2.9k] @elixirfromthestars
Detective!Bucky x Lawyer!Reader
Summary: After the many failed dates Natasha set you up on, you decide to give up on the dating scene all together. That is until Bucky makes it his mission to change your mind, but will he be enough to change it?
{personal comment: Bucky is so nice and my heart broke for him, but it’s really beautiful and the way you end it definitely tempts people to read the second part}
2. Conflict of Interest - part ll [8.5k]
Detective!Bucky x Lawyer!Reader
Summary: After deserting Bucky at the fair, you are left dealing with the consequences. This becomes difficult as you are all assigned to a new case.
{personal comment: I like the writing style and the way it’s portrayed how hard it is for them to interact normally thereafter. And Bucky is so sweet for wanting to fix things even if it meant he could end up hurting}
●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●
1. Graveyard [10k] @wkemeup
Bucky x healer!Reader
Summary: As the unofficial healer for the Avengers, you pride yourself on the ability to mend heroes with the touch of your hand. Only, your gift comes at a heavy price — one you keep secret from your friends —and when Bucky asks you to do the impossible, they’ll discover why your gift is called a sacrifice, too.
{personal comment: I can hardly imagine there's people who haven't read this, but it’s one of my favourite fics so I have to put it here. I love the way Bucky acts and it’s so sweet how reluctant he is to let reader heal him, not wanting to take advantage of her powers}
2. Sacrifice [13.6k]
Bucky x healer!Reader
Summary: In the midst of an attack, you’re dosed with an unknown chemical and your healing ability becomes compromised.
What if instead of relieving pain – you became the cause of it?
{personal comment: The little insights in the reader's backstory and how she dealt with her powers before the Avengers was really interesting to me. Also, I'm loving Bucky here so much. Him being so fiercly protective has me on the edge of my seat}
●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●○●
1. The shot heard round the tower [3.7k] @pellucid-constellations
Avenger!Bucky x reader
Summary: You just want to know if Bucky has feelings for you. Bucky just wants you to be okay.
{personal comment: Bucky being such a softy for the reader gives me butterflies. I love this}
2. Unwarranted Weaknesses [3.3k]
Avenger!Bucky x reader
Summary: Ever since you’d been attacked, things hadn’t felt right. Work was harder, you weren’t sleeping, and the smallest things set you off. No one could convince you to get help. That didn’t mean Bucky was going to stop trying.
{personal comment: Bucky is so sweet, patient and understanding and I really love him. I liked how this is written}

1. Public affair [8.2k] @kaznejis
Avenger!Bucky x Avenger!Reader
Summary: The Avengers PR department designs the perfect fake relationship for you- the key to instant fame and high ratings. Except, you’re already in a relationship with Bucky.

OMG IM SO EXCITED IT LITERALLY CAME TO ME RANDOMLY I DIDNT KNOW YOU WERE ALREADY INCLUDING IT BUT IM EVEN MORE EXCITED NOW
Nat deserves the choice 🥺
You're absolutely fucking right. I'm so fucking excited for reader to say "enough" and start fucking fixing the avengers and giving them a real shot at being happy. I'm fucking tired of the tragic hero trope. Like, characters don't have to go through fucking trauma to be nuanced and well-written. Characters can be well written without killing off their loved ones.
I know this is a little hippocritical because of the tragic backstory I've given reader but that too will be confronted in later chapters.
I'm sorry i swear a lot when I'm excited and/or passionate about something.

My Shining star
Pairings: Insecure Bucky x Healer Female reader
Summary: You’re the official healer for the Avengers. When Steve comes in begging you to heal Bucky you immediately say yes… But Bucky is hesitant (giving you guys a lil something before my next post)
word count: 1.7k
Warnings: Ptsd, talk of torture, Mentions of abuse and blood, (not really a warning but soft bucky 🥹 ik we all love him)
Main masterlist - Send me requests!!!
-
Ever since you joined the team 5 years ago you’ve been the north star to light the way. You were originally brought on as Bruce Banners second hand, But quickly became the teams personal healer. They figured out you had healing powers when one day Tony came in carrying Morgan who was in tears. He told you she had cut her finger on a piece of metal and wanted you to see how bad it was.
When you walked over to her you saw her puffy eyes and her snot filled nose. You held her hands and told her to take some deep breath with you. Once you two fell into a rhythm you saw a orange-ish glow emit from your hands. Before you could comprehend what had happened her cut was healed.
You dropped Morgan’s hands and freaked out looking at Tony and Bruce. They both looked at Morgan’s finger and saw that the cut was completely gone. Bruce asked you if that had ever happened before, and you said no. They proceeded to ask you about your family and if you knew of anyone who had powers, again you said no.
Eventually after they calmed you down they asked if they could run some tests to see what it could be. After a shit ton of tests and long nights you three finally found and answer. Biotherapeutic Manipulation was what your power was. Unfortunately you have no idea where it came from but, it’s assumed it’s a gene in your family that lies dormant.
That was two years ago and ever since then you’ve been the official team healer. Everyone comes to you for your healing powers along with them just loving being around you. The team loved having you around because you were just a ray of light.
No matter how hard you’ve been working. No matter what’s been going on in your personal life you were always happy. So it was a no brainer when Tony asked you to move into the compound. You accepted the offer with the brightest smile. And within a week you were moved onto the same floor with Steve, Sam and Bucky.
A few months went by and you got a lot closer with everyone on the team. Well everyone except Bucky. He was never a man of many words to begin with, But since you joined he was even more silent. He also never let you heal him. Bucky claimed that the serum would do it and that he didn’t need it.
So for months now when everyone else comes into the lab to get healed…Bucky without fail will tell you he’s fine.
You didn’t really think anything of it until he came back from a mission really beat up. He had three stab wounds, and at least two gunshot wounds as well. Steve brought him into the lab begging you to heal him. And again without fail he told you he was fine and that the serum would fix it for him.
“you’re not fine Bucky! you are profusely bleeding and you’re lucky you have passed out yet” You say a little annoyed at the super soldier.
“i will heal in a few hours y/n really i don’t need it” He continues to protest and Steve just sighs.
“Punk let her heal you ok? you can’t keep refusing when you’re seriously hurt” Steve tried to coax him into letting you heal his friend.
Bucky just shakes his head in response and You and Steve just sigh. It takes you a second to come up with an idea. Once the lightbulb goes off you give Steve a look that tells him to leave.
“i’ll give you guys a minute” He says as he leaves the lab with a nod and you walk back over to Bucky.
“why won’t you let me heal you?” The question is laced with concern as it leaves your lips.
“i don’t des- need it.” He switches he word choice thinking you won’t notice but of course you do.
Suddenly everything makes sense. Why he doesn’t talk. Why he trains alone. Why he doesn’t let you heal him. It’s all because he think he doesn’t deserve good things.
“Bucky- do you think you don’t deserve to be healed?” You ask as you slowly reach for his metal hand. He’s hesitant but he lets you hold it as he looks up at you.
His blue eyes meet yours and you can feel the sadness in them. Bucky slowly nods his head at your question. Your heartbreaks and this realization.
“Well that’s just not true. You deserve it just think the rest of the team does” You simply state trying to ease him into it.
“No i don’t. Not after everything i’ve done. I don’t deserve your kindness or your healing” He protests shaking his head and you grab his face and make him look at you.
“Listen to me very carefully James. You deserve good things. okay? You are a good person. And before you try to use your past to say you don’t. Let me ask you something. Did you ask to be taken by hydra?” You ask already knowing the answer but needing him to respond.
He shakes his head no at your question.
“Okay now did you ask to be turned into the winter soldier?” You question again as you drop your hands from his face.
He shakes his head again.
“Now lastly.. Did you ever ask to do what they made you?” The words are softer coming out this time.
Bucky shakes his head no and looks at you.
“Then it’s not your fault James. They did awful things to you. Yes it was your body doing it… But it wasn’t your mind. It wasn’t you. Because YOU are a good person. I know we don’t talk that much around here but i know you’re a good person James. Everyone around here knows that. Now let me heal you and show you something good” You kinda ramble on but you hope your words made an impact.
Bucky stares at you in response not quite sure how to respond. It makes him a few minutes before he mutters out an ‘okay’. You smile softly as you approach him taking off your white gloves to reveal your perfectly manicured hands.
“this might be a little awkward but i need you to take off your shirt” Bucky’s eyes widen at your words “I can’t heal the wounds if i don’t touch them” You continue to explain hoping it would ease his mind.
“o-okay” He stumbles out as he lifts up his shirt and takes it off. It takes everything in you to not stare at his broad chest. You rip your eyes off his toned abs and approach him.
“you’re gonna feel a tingling sensation but it won’t hurt okay? you can even watch what i do if that makes you feel better” You say as you place your hand over a small cut on his chest. Once you close your eyes and focus your breathing a orange glow emits from your hand.
Bucky watches as you place your hand on the cut and it slowly fades away. His eyes widen in amazement. Sure he’s heard of the power you hold but he’s never seen it in person. He watches as you go from wound to wound healing him. Suddenly you stop at his left shoulder and run your finger over the scar tissue.
He worriedly watches you as you place your hand on his shoulder blade. You hum to yourself as you attempt to heal any nerve damage in his shoulder due to the metal arm.
“H-how did you do that?” Bucky asks as he feels the pain disappear in his shoulder.
“Well i figured that HYDRA didn’t properly give you that arm so i had i feeling you had some nerve damage- plus Steve has also mentioned it before” You respond and you finish up the last cut on his face.
You’re suddenly really aware of how close your faces are. You notice how his deep blue eyes are focused on you. He grabs the hand that’s on his cheek and brings it to his lips. Bucky softly kisses your palm before holding your hand softly.
“Uh thank you for helping me- you really didn’t have to” He shyly says as he hops off the table and stands in front of you.
“Don’t do that- I helped you because yes it’s my job. But i also wanted to. I will gladly be the one to show you that you deserve any shred of good humanity has to offer” You respond as you start to clean up the lab a little.
“But still it means a lot that you healed me. You know you’re like the only person besides Steve to not look at me like a monster? or like i’m broken..” He says trailing off as he looks down at his feet.
“well you aren’t a monster nor were you ever one. And like i said you deserve nice things” You say finally looking up and meeting his gaze with a smile.
He nervously rubs his hands together before he speaks again. “would you like to maybe go out sometime? like to dinner or a movie?” Bucky asks still not meeting your gaze.
You laugh a little at how nervous he is. Even though you aren’t quite sure why he’s so nervous when he looks like that you still find it cute. You walk up to him and gently lift his head to look at you.
“I’d love to James.” You smile and he reaches for your hand and intertwines your finger together.
“how about tomorrow around 7?” He says with a goofy smile on his face. You admire his smile before you respond.
“sounds perfect” The excitement in your voice makes him smile wider. He runs this thumb over your knuckles for a moment as he looks at you.
“It’s a date then” He says before kissing your cheek and walking out of the lab. You stand there for a moment smiling like a idiot.
As bucky leaves he can’t contain the smile on his face. He finally got a date with the woman he’s been pining for since she’s arrived. You’re finally gonna be his shining star

Nervous
Aegon II Targaryen x Reader
Summary: You haven't been feeling well lately, your husband worries about your health.
Every day, he had to sit in that room, by that table talking to these men about the most absurd things.
Every day, he was reminded how selfish all of them were.
Every day, his leg bounced up and down to a point where Aemond had to tell him to just stop already.
Every day, he sat there, not listening the slightest as he was worried.
So terribly worried for you.
You had been his wife for the past couple of years, the love of his life as he claimed, and never once had you fallen this ill.
Sure, he saw you sick before but this was something different, something bigger.
And today, you were finally getting looked at by nurses.
Aegon was even more impatient than on any other day. Aegon couldn't anticipate the end of this meeting so he could finally go back to you.
As soon as a lord stood up and finished the meetings for the day, Aegon bolted out the door.
He rushed back to your shared chambers where he saw you sitting by the fireplace.
As he entered you offered him a kind smile. "You are back early." you said as you put the cup of tea onto the small table beside you.
"What did the healers say?"
"Sit down please." you gestured to the other chair next to you.
"Please, My Wife do not play with my feelings. I spent all day worried sick for you and I feel like I could collapse I'm so nervous."
"I am not sick. Technically I am but it is expected of a woman in my condition."
"Condition?" he asked fearfully.
"I'm with child, Aegon." the smile on your face was blinding. You stood up and headed over to him. "You are going to be a father." you said as you placed his hand onto your stomach. "Although now you cannot see, but our little baby is in here. Are you happy?" you looked up at him, meeting his eyes. Oh, you could see just how happy he was.
He couldn't even hide it.
And he didn't need to. He reached for you, hugging you close.
"I was worried you would be sick with an illness no one can heal and yet... you give me such great news. I am incredibly happy, Y/N."
You tightened your grip around him as he pulled back, leaning down for a soft kiss.
"The nurse wanted to go to you and tell you but I asked them to let me bring you the news. I felt it would only be fair for you to hear it from me. I know we never truly tried for a child but I'm happy as well to be blessed by one."
"You will be an amazing mother. I just know it."
"And you will be an exceptional father. I am aware that we will have our worries on the way. That we will be unsure, but I'm positive we can do this together. I love you so much Aegon."
"I love you just as much if not more, My Love." Aegon smiled at you as he pulled you close. "You will look so gorgeous with our child under your heart." his eye filled with adoration and love.

Love is a Dagger: III
Pairings: Loki x Fem!Reader/Dagger
Warnings: Desperate!Loki. Reader is in a coma this entire chapter. Steve still has a crush on you. Mutual Pining, sort of. Still a Slow Burn. Angst.
Wordcount: 2,263
Summary: The Avengers spend much of their time attempting to awaken you from your coma. Many disagreements ensue, leading to what could be your demise.
A/N: So so sorry for the late onset of this chapter! I have had quite a bit going on lately, as I am shifting career paths in the next few weeks. Nonetheless, this chapter is here, although the quality may not be the best, as I wrote it all on my phone in Google Drive lol.
Here is the Masterlist for this series if you need, as well as Chapter II.
Loki watched as you tumbled backwards onto the ground, and simultaneously, his brother awoke. He yelled your name, rushing towards you so that he could try and catch you, which he narrowly missed. Your shoulders hit the ground, but thankfully your head landed in his lap. You were blanched of color, your typical hue was drained via your life force.
“Fuck, fuck!” Loki shouted, taking you in his arms bridal style and running into the hallway. He failed to recognize that his brother had even woken, he was too worried for you. “Help!” he yelled desperately, surprised as Tony and Steve made a quick appearance.
“Bro-brother? Are w-we doing get help?” Thor groaned from his bed, drastically unaware of the situation unfolding around him. Loki had to hold back the urge to use his seidr to put pressure on his brother’s forehead and force him back down onto the pillow.
“Loki, what are you doing? You could be doing her harm by holding her.” Steve ushered, reaching his hands out, fingertips barely grazing your skin.
“As much as I hate to agree with Capsicle here, he’s got a point.” Stark warned, and Loki hesitantly handed your blanched form over to the Captain. Medical personnel approached within milliseconds, and you were placed on a gurney to be transported to the nearest room while they assessed you.
〰// ▬ʃ════▻ ⋆༺𓆩⚔️𓆪༻⋆ ◅════ʅ▬ \\〰
“She wasted much of her life energy to heal Thor. Given that it was herself and Loki who caused the damage, it seems to me that it would require both parties to heal him. Unfortunately, Dagger did it on her own, which caused the majority of her life force to drain from her.” The doctor stated.
The employees on the medical wing had spent the last twenty minutes working to stabilize you, which they were successful in doing. You were unfortunately unconscious still, and they were uncertain as to if, or when, you would awaken.
Steve, Loki, and Tony stood in your room, awaiting further instructions from the doctor.
“Is there anything we can do?” Stark questioned, to which the doctor shrugged, much to Loki’s dismay.
“I’m sorry, aren’t you considered an elite healer in this realm?” Loki asked accusingly. The doctor looked at him puzzled, before he glanced at Loki’s appearance, and then responded.
“Yes, but unfortunately, Y/N’s life energy is not of this world. Now that she has drained it, I do not know whether or not she can be healed with our techniques.”
“Then use different ones.” Loki spoke simply, as if this clarification made the solution within the scope of possibility.
“It’s not that simple.” The man answered, aggravating Loki, who got up and stomped out of the room.
“These magic people, I swear to God” Tony cursed. “You give them one person who compliments their powers, and suddenly, they’re obsessed! It’s like Vis-“
Tony was cut off when suddenly, another group of Avengers made way to join the conversation in your room. Wanda, Vision, Banner, and Natasha all approached, looking melancholic at your near lifeless state. “What the hell happened?” Natasha spoke first.
“She healed Thor with her life force. I think she felt bad about what happened at training this morning.” Steve explained, with the group nodding in understanding. “So she used the whole thing?” Wanda asked, trying to understand how a simple healing turned into a monumental disaster.
“Close to it, at least.” The doctor piped in.
“God, Y/N! She might have gotten herself killed.” Wanda exclaimed.
“She didn’t know. She just wanted to heal Thor.” Steve was quick to defend your position.
“Speaking of, is he okay?” Banner asked, while Tony and Steve nodded. “One of the other doctors is filling him in.”
“Well, I say we discuss this more in the morning. She’s stable now, and I think she’ll remain as such as long as no more of her life force is drained. Let’s sleep, and meet at 7 promptly in the boardroom.” Tony suggested, while the rest of the team nodded. It was fairly late, especially after all of the antics.
The team shuffled out of the space, allowing the nurses to attend to you as they could. Meanwhile, you remained in a dreamful deep sleep.
〰// ▬ʃ════▻ ⋆༺𓆩⚔️𓆪༻⋆ ◅════ʅ▬ \\〰
A glow of light cast upon your vision, much like a fog.
“Y/N.”
What the hell was that? Who’s saying my name??
Is that…? Cloak? “Cloak?”
“So you do remember.” The voice spoke once more. What?
“Remember what?” You questioned.
“Me, Dagger. Your partner in crime.” Yes, it must be Cloak.
“I could never forget you. Ever. You are everything to me.” You feverishly grasped at the air, hoping to catch a feeling of your past love.
“Were.” The voice was sterner now than previously.
“What do you mean?” You asked, downtrodden at the thought of Cloak being upset with you.
“There’s a new someone for you, beautiful. A new everything.”
What?? No. “No. Cloak, you’re wrong.”
“You don’t want to believe it, because you’re scared. But you have a new half. One that may suit you better than I ever did.”
“That’s not possible.”
“It is, Dagger. I’m telling you, it’s true. I know, it’s scary. But I promise it’s okay.”
“No, no, no. I’m not leaving you.” You begged, reaching out for him even more desperately now.
“I’ve left you, Dag. I left that lifetime. But I’ll always be with you. You must know that already. Please, accept that. Go to him, be with him. Finish what we started.”
With that, the whiteness that was displayed in your vision faded back to black.
〰// ▬ʃ════▻ ⋆༺𓆩⚔️𓆪༻⋆ ◅════ʅ▬ \\〰
Loki had tried to sleep in his own quarters initially, but was unsuccessful. His mind was flooded with thoughts of you. How you were doing, if you would remain alive, if he had ruined his chances with the only woman he had desired to court in the last century? God, if you would even accept such an arrangement with him?
He liked you. More than liked.
But your past seemed to haunt you more than his did, at least when it came to romance. You seemed rather stubborn in regards to love, especially pertaining to moving on from Cloak. Even if you did, Loki was partially certain that you would lean towards the goody goody Steve Rogers as your choice. Loki was used to being second choice, especially in that he grew up in the God of Thunder’s shadow.
Loki spent the remainder of the night in your room, laying on a spare sofa near your bed. He pondered whether or not touching you was a positive or negative. He knew he had drained your life energy previously, as both Captain Rogers and Stark so eloquently reminded him. However, he also knew that his seidr offered healing abilities, and that the energy that you had both created this morning that decimated Thor was extravagant.
He hoped you could create it again. Together, you were absolutely a force to be reckoned with. Hell, you took down a god. Thor Odinson, of all gods. Loki’s brother. How he had waited for the day, yearned for the day, where he took his brother down. But now, it was at the cost of your safety. Possibly your life.
Eventually, being near you helped to calm Loki, and he was able to fall into a light slumber. He still woke up a few times during the night, primarily from the chimes coming from various machines. Part of him hoped you’d be awoken as well.
He also neglected to notice your adjacent hands reaching out towards the other’s body, as if hoping to latch on to one another. Even though there were several feet between the two of you, your connection seemed undeniable.
To everyone but yourself and Loki, at least.
〰// ▬ʃ════▻ ⋆༺𓆩⚔️𓆪༻⋆ ◅════ʅ▬ \\〰
You remained unconscious throughout the night, much to everyone else’s dismay. The doctors had hoped for a quick recovery from losing part of your life energy.
Therefore, with no good news come morning, the Avengers met in the boardroom, save for the Asgardian brothers. Thor was still admitted to the medical wing, while Loki had stayed on the floor for about as long as you had.
“Alrighty folks, it’s brainstorming time. How are we saving Y/N?” Tony asked, facing the whiteboard and holding a dry erase marker in his fingers.
The room was filled with a thick silence, before Vision spoke. “Well, given that the God of Mischief does seem to have some sort of interesting connection to Y/N, maybe if we have him transfer life energy to her? Or Thor? The problem is that none of us have excess life energy to give. They’re the only people that might.”
“Loki is not touching her.” Steve responded afterwards, hoping not to come across abrasive, but rather, stern and direct. The rest of the group turned to him, hoping for some kind of explanation to his unwavering opinion. “He has drained her life force every time they have come into contact. Any more of that could cause her to die instantly.”
The rest of the group nodded in understanding, finally realizing where the Captain was coming from.
“Okay, so we’re setting the boundary that Loki is not allowed to touch Y/N.” Tony confirmed, squiggling down a sentence on the whiteboard. He turned toward the center of the room, opting to address Friday.
“Friday, what can you remind us of regarding Y/N’s powers?”
“Y/N’s powers are sourced from a life reserve within her, caused by various experiments with synthetic drugs, which altered her biology. The life energy replenishes itself, but can become built up when she does not utilize her powers often enough. This can cause her to become feverish, lethargic, and potentially, dangerous earthquakes to occur from the energy release into the environment.” Friday started.
“Her powers can be used to heal or drain a life force from any being. Her daggers, specifically, can paralyze, drain life energy, or potentially kill their prey.”
“What happens if Y/N drains her life force entirely, Friday?”
“In theory, she’d die.”
“Is there anything we can do to heal her life force?” Steve interjected.
“The only case of Dagger being able to be healed by another was by her partner, Cloak.”
“And Cloak is dead.” The Captain sighed in frustration.
“But her new ‘partner’ isn’t.” Wanda thought of the dark haired god.
“That’s too dangerous. He’s not touching her.” Steve was quick to interrupt again. “Every single time he’s touched her, her life energy has been drained.”
“Except during practice today.” Tony spoke, tapping the marker against the air as if the solution had come to him. “Cap, they surged through the air with the power of a turbo jet. They created the energy together.”
“Which means, in theory, he could create that energy again.” Natasha spoke up.
“And bring her back.” Bruce was the next to add.
“He was holding her when we came down to the bay. If that theory was going to work, wouldn’t it have already?” Steve retorted.
“Only one way to find out.” Tony spoke, making his way determinedly out of the boardroom.
Steve was quick to follow behind, exasperated and still rambling about how this tactic could easily end in disaster. In your death.
“Tony, I really think we need to think about this more.” He practically begged.
The rest of the Avengers trailed closely behind, following Stark to the medical wing and down its shorter hallways. The hallways could be lengthened in emergencies, but thankfully, it had been a while since that kind of occurrence.
He made a beeline to your room, where they had spotted a certain God of Mischief lying peacefully atop the sofa adjacent to your bed. It certainly didn’t fit him in the slightest, it was far too small both length and width wise, but he did look to be sleeping rather well despite that fact.
Steve’s stomach churned at the thought of Loki sleeping in there with you all night. He should’ve stayed. He should’ve been the one to be there for you. He shouldn’t have left you last night.
“Reindeer Games!” Tony barked, causing the god to jolt awake. “Yes?” The god hissed.
“We need you to work your magic on Y/N.”
“I thought we decided that-“ Loki went to question, with Stark’s response interrupting him.
“The rest of us decided otherwise.”
“Not me.” Cap piped up in opposition.
“Huh?”
“We talked to Friday, and-“
“So we’re using the logic of a robot?” The god interjected.
“Do not refer to her as such. We’re here to save Y/N.”
The god finally stood up from the sofa “what do you need from me?”
“Just, sprinkle a little of your magic powder on her, and we should be set to go.” Tony said simply.
“You can heal, right?” Wanda spoke suddenly. Loki nodded in response.
“Just, maybe do that. From afar, if you can.”
Loki nodded in understanding, a green orb began to emerge from his hand, as his fingers twittled and it rose up in the air. The seidr glittered and glistened, swirling with magnificent effort.
With a simple flick of his wrist, Loki floated the orb over to you, where it levitated above you for just a moment, before it dove down, absorbing into your chest.
Your body filled with color, which made the Avengers surrounding you brighten with hope, Loki looked ecstatic.
It was then that your pulse flatlined on the monitor.

I Want A Nurse
Bucky Barnes x fem!reader fic
(starts with Matt Murdock x reader but just trust me)
Rating: Mature (it starts slow, I’ll give a heads up when we get close to any action)
Featuring: time travel, play loosey goosey with WW2 historical accuracy, and a complete disregard for canon
Summary: Finding herself in unfamiliar territory, or unfamiliar times to be exact, an Avenger must find her way home or risk permanently altering her timeline. If only Bucky Barnes were less charming her task would be much easier.
Authors Note: i think the last time i posted my fan fiction writing was for Avatar the Last Air Bender so please go easy on me. I’ve got a large chunk of this written so it’s definitely several chapters if y’all like this? I’ve yet to decide the rating on this but slapping a mature on it for now sounds good
Y/n/Reader note - i’ve done my best to keep the reader as neutral as possible regarding physical characteristics, but please let me know if I can do anything better! I want the story to be enjoyable for everyone! Reader does go by Nightingale as a hero name and does use she/her pronouns
Chapter 1 - Out of Time
Date Unknown —— Nightingale
You’d think being ripped through time and space would hurt. That it would imply your body feeling like it was pulled apart. But in the dark expanse of nothing-ness all she felt was a buzz, the pins and needles type of sensation you feel when your leg falls asleep.
It didn’t hurt
It wasn’t pleasant
But it didn’t hurt at least
What did hurt was falling into the rubble of a previously two story building. Landing on the second floor and that floor giving way and crashing down to the ground floor. That hurt.
A groan left her lips as y/n took in her surroundings. She didn’t know where that gun had shot her atoms to, all she knew was that idiot mad scientist decided to hit her with some laser and here she was.
If she could find her phone she could call Tony or Steve, anyone in the tower really, to come pick her up. But looking around and seeing the town she landed in full of rubble and dying fires put her less at ease.
What had happened here?
“Hello? Anyone else out there?” A mans voice boomed outside as she looked through the windows. Or rather, where the windows used to be.
“Americans here! We have nurses to help!” The voice was getting louder and the sound of a jeep reached her ears.
Americans was good, Americans could have a way to call home. But specifying that they were Americans made her think she was no longer in America.
“Uhhh infirmières ici? Americano?” A less confident voice called
“Americano is Spanish, you dope.” The first voice laughed
“Yeah let’s hear your French then-“ their voices were muffled by rubble falling.
Carefully making her way out of the building, she realized now how the fall had hurt her. Her ankle was possibly broken, in addition to a couple of broken ribs. Maybe these nurses could get her settled and she could heal herself.
After all she was Nightingale, that was her “super hero name” as Peter liked to call it. With healing powers, she became the designated healer for the Avengers once Tony had tracked her down. Perhaps working at a hospital when you were trying to hide your magnificent healing abilities was a little stupid
But right now, healing herself in this condition would be tough. Healing others under intense circumstances was one thing but it was hard to cycle her energy through herself to heal. Yes, some nurses to help her get stable was exactly what she needed.
The roar of the engine got louder as it came around the corner of the building.
“Hello?! Is anyone out there- oh hello miss! Bonjour!”
“You said you were Americans?” She asked as the jeep pulled up beside her. Noticing the uniforms, she quickly clocked them as soldiers. That was moderately reassuring but she was still hesitant until she knew where she was. The odd uniforms worried the back of her mind - why would active duty military be wearing uniforms like that? Were they official? They certainly didn’t look like anything she saw Rhodey wearing.
The jovial tone of the soldier in front pulled her from her train of thought.
“Yes ma’am! We’re set up a couple miles down the road now. You look hurt, do you need a hand, doll?” Sincerity twinkled in his eyes. Sergeant Barnes always said she was too trusting, but this man seemed genuine.
She gratefully took the hand as the soldier hopped down to help her out. He was a sturdy young man, and though she could tell he was young this environment had dulled his skin and his sandy hair had come disheveled - but thankfully his eyes had not been dulled in the same way. The soldier driving waved at her.
“It’s a good thing you’re American too, his French is horrible.” The driver snorted from behind the wheel, flicking his chestnut hair from his face. He was thinner, with sharper features than the young man helping her.
“Hey! I’m working on it!” The man who assisted her scowled playfully at his companion
“Flirting with pretty French girls is not ‘working on it’” he smirked, lurching the jeep forward.
It was as the men bantered back and forth that she could finally take in her surroundings. It seemed based on their banter she was in a small French town, but that wasn’t the strange part. What was strange was the military truck she found herself in, it looked like a relic but ran so smoothly like it was brand new.
Paired with the odd uniforms of the men who picked her up, more questions and fewer answers appear to her.
“Oh yeah, what’s an American girl doing out here in the French country side? You here to be a nurse?” The chestnut haired man she’d learned was George asked as the turned the corner out of town.
“Yes, I got separated from my party and ended up here.” Better to be vague, until she could figure out what was going on here.
“Dangerous thing, you’re lucky we found you first. Hitler’s boys will be through here soon I’m sure.” That gave her pause but kept the shock from her face.
“Well I’m certainly grateful.” She smiled lightly, her heart racing in her ears as the implications fell into place.
“And you can set up nursing with us! I’m sure ol lady Daniels could use the extra help! We’re what she likes to call a handful” her sandy haired companion George grinned at her from the back seat as he spoke.
All she could do was laugh, but inside she was letting the words he spoke soak in.
She was no historian but the uniforms, car, and talk of military movements of long dead dictators was an easy enough trail of breadcrumbs to follow.
Calling Tony and Steve would be a harder task than she thought.

Present Day - Bucky Barnes
“What do you mean she just disappeared?!” Steve’s panicked voice was doing nothing to help Bucky’s splitting headache. Being thrown into a building would definitely cause that and the panic in everyone’s voices kept it going hours after.
“I’m saying, the beam hit her after she turned us to take the hit, and she was gone. It was like her body turned to light, I had to look away it burned my eyes.”
Bucky sat in the medical bay, bandages wrapped around his torso, having already been seen by the staff that Stark kept on hand. He was in the middle of being healed by Nightingale when she disappeared, leaving the job half finished in fixing the ribs that punctured his lungs, but that was the least of their worries.
“Murdock is on his way” Natasha mentioned as she entered “he already doesn’t like you, this isn’t going to help”
“I didn’t disintegrate the demon’s girlfriend!” Bucky yelled, holding his head as his own yelling now contributed to his headache. Is this what Sam called a migraine?
“Devil, the devil.” Natasha reminded him with a smirk
“Either way, it’s like I told Stark, Banner, everyone. That scientist hit her with a white beam of light and then she was gone. I didn’t touch her, I told her to leave me, she didn’t!” He ran his hands over his face.
He didn’t like Nightingale around him, and the one time he was too weak to fight back and send her on her way she got zapped out of existence.
“Did you get anything out of the guy Nat?” Steve asked hopefully.
“Interrogation was inconclusive. It’s hard to get answers out of a man out of his mind. Med staff has him sedated, hoping if we can calm him down we can get some answers. Banner and Stark are pouring over his weapons in the meantime. Stark called Murdock to let him know she was MIA and to let us know if he heard from her.”
“We don’t know what happened to her, we don’t know if she’s dead or just somewhere else.” Steve frowned.
“I know, that’s why Stark has FRIDAY tearing through surveillance footage around the world trying to find her face.” She stopped, a comforting hand on Steve’s arm as worry crossed his face. Steve had been the one to motion her towards Barnes after he had been slammed into the building and unknowingly putting her in the line fire, so Natasha knew he was likely blaming himself deep down.
Natasha turned then to the other super soldier, looking to see Barnes with his head in his hands. She walked over, placing a hand softly on his shoulder. Both of them were tearing themselves apart over this.
“We know you didn’t do this Barnes. And don’t blame yourself either.”
“Why not? Murdock will.” His rebuttal was grumbled through gritted teeth
“Murdock just needs a punching bag, he’s as powerless in this situation as anyone and all he’ll be able to do is lash out or worry.”
“Don’t they have punching bags at that gym of his?” The groan that Bucky let out was cut short by the muffled yelling in the atrium.
The three left the medical wing and found none other than Matt Murdock and Sam Wilson, Sam obviously trying to calm him down.
“How did she just disappear! A beam of light and she was just gone?!” It was then that Murdock stopped, hearing the heavy footfall of Bucky Barnes and his face went from desperate to anger.
“What happened Barnes!? Where is she!” His yelling was full of rage towards the brunette, sure he somehow caused this.
Steve intervened before Bucky could open his mouth “This isn’t Bucky’s fault Matt, I know you’re upset and we’re doing everything we can to find her, I promise!”
He shook with anger but let his face fall away from the super soldiers.
“I can’t do anything. My girlfriend is missing and I can’t do anything.”
It was mumbled but Steve and Bucky could pick up on it.
Natasha made her way down the stairs, beginning to lead Matt towards the kitchen.
“Let’s get you something to drink and then go talk to Tony, ok?” He nodded, still shaking but resigned.
Watching their retreating forms, all Steve could muster was “I hope we find her soon.”
Bucky could only nod in agreement.

1943, somewhere in the French country side near the Italian border — Nightingale
She had gathered it was 1943, based on the medical files she had glanced over upon entering the nurses tent, the soldier from the jeep holding her up let her know through his ramblings that his unit was on its way towards the Italian front and that they were only some miles away.
“Paul, if this is another one of your French girlfriends-“ she turned to see a blond nurse setting him with a glare
“No no no! Lorraine, I swear, we just found her. She was sent over for nursing and got split from her group!” Paul nervously scurried back towards the door, lingering in the doorway.
She watched the nurse switch her attention to her and her demeanor changed.
“Oh gosh, come here, poor thing.” Lorraine helped her to a nearby bed, setting her down gently.
“I got trapped in a building that was going down. I think my ankle is sprained, and my ribs are hurt from the fall.” The nurse nodded along as she spoke, dragging over a cart of supplies.
The tent was calmer than it had been hours ago, looking around the room she could see the exhaustion on the faces of many of the nurses. Soldiers, civilians, and the occasional nurse were occupying the beds, the attack harming many in the area.
She felt the skim of finger tips on her now propped up ankle and watch the young nurse look her over carefully. The odd angle and the horrible bruising letting her know what was going on under the skin.
“Oh sweetheart this had to hurt. Let me get a splint for you, this could be broken.”
She nodded along as the nurse spoke. Once she had some rest and some food that ankle would be repaired in no time. The ribs had already begun to fuse back into place, all this nurse would notice would be some bruising. Steve and Bucky’s serum might work fast, but her powers worked faster by a mile.
While the nurse set to wrapping her ankle, she made small talk to distract her from the pain.
“So, where did you lose your group?”
“Hard to say, it wras between trains. Somewhere in France but I know that doesn’t help much.” Vague was the theme of the day
“I know what you mean, i was so sick from the travel I could barely keep track of city names.” Y/n hummed along softly at this
“Well, I’m sure Mrs. Daniels would appreciate the help once you’re all healed up! These boys keep us all on our toes.”
“Hey now Lorraine, we try to stay out of trouble!” George whined, still standing in the doorway
“Well you do a poor job of that!” Lorraine huffed, tying up the ankle. “Now get out of here so i can take care of this poor girl! You need to eat some lunch.”
“Aww I knew you cared Lorraine” the soldier mimed a swoon with his hand over his heard
“Out!” She shooed them away with her hands, nearly pushing the men out of the tent.
The soldier chuckled as he left, Lorraine shaking her head, the ghost of a smirk dancing across her lips.
“Now, let me check on these ribs.”
Y/n was never more happy to be in plain clothes than she was today. Her suit from Tony would have caused a mess, but thankfully her blouse and skirt would be ambiguous enough. Nothing quite like a mad scientist pulling you away from an afternoon meeting by starting a fight on the street outside of the tower.
Pulling up the top enough to show her damaged lower ribs, the nurse again skidded her fingers along carefully, poking here and there.
“Well the good news is I don’t think they’re broken, just bruised. I’ll see what we have to ease the pain!”
“Oh no, please save that for the men, I’ll be fine.”
“If you’re sure.” Lorraine didn’t seem convinced but was more than willing to ration the supplies. “Oh! Do you have any information on where you were supposed to be stationed?”
Y/n thought carefully. She wasn’t sure if she should play it off as a careless mistake, would they believe it? But what could she say? She had no paperwork, no information, no proof of what she was saying. Not to mention she knew nothing about world war 2 outside of what Steve had told her.
And then there was the matter of how would she get home? She had no way of to let the team know where or when she was, and no idea on how to get back to them. Stark would have to find something, maybe they could get to Strange and have him help. But to do that, she needed to let them know where she was.
And in 1943 there was only one way to do that.
“Azzano, I was going to Azzano.”
