Stressed and Sick on Set

Summary: Reader has a migraine and gets sick on set. Luckily Scarlett, Lizzie and her twin sisters are there to help you out.

With the chaos that was currently your life it was no surprise or at least it shouldn’t have been when you were hit with the mother of all migraines.

To say people had been asking a lot of you lately was a gross understatement. Aside from filming your family had been a mess as of late. The whole family was expected back home for Christmas as your grandmother was sick and so the plan was for everyone to get together one last time.

However, between acting and uni work you were already stretched pretty thin. Your parents had been breathing down your neck to book a flight and despite wanting to see some of your cousins you knew family gatherings were a recipe for disaster. And with a sombre reason for the get together it would most likely be a mess of alcohol and tears which wasn’t something you were sure you could even deal with at this point.

Luckily the migraine hadn’t hit until you were finished in hair and makeup because the idea of anyone touching your face and hair with the amount of pain you were in right now might just push you over the edge.

The light blinded you as you stepped out of the hair and makeup trailer. Shielding your eyes you fumbled with clumsy fingers to put on your sunglasses.

Sighing softy as the sunlight was reduced you continued you way to set. You nodded as you passed a few stagehands and crew members. Finally, you made it to set. Lizzie and Scarlett were stood near their chairs talking with two blondes who you couldn’t quite see with the other two stood in front of them.

Joining the small group Scarlett wrapped a hand around your shoulders and pulled you into her side making your head spin.

“Speak of the devil.” Lizzie said. “Y/n, you’ve met my sisters before but if you can't tell them apart this one is Mary-Kate and that ones Ashley.” Lizzie said poking her sister's side.

“Hi Y/n.” Mary-Kate said with a smile and Ashley mimicked her statement.

“Hi.” You said softly. The noise of the set was getting to you and despite your sunglasses the fluorescent lights overhead seemed worse than the sun had been.

“Whats with the shades Y/n/n?” Scarlett asked.

“‘M just too cool for you.” You said burying your face into her neck in an attempt to hide from the lights. The adults laughed and your cheeks heated up with the tips of your ears turning pink also.

The four of them stood and chatted while you stayed relatively quiet only really speaking when spoken to. Your head was pounding, and the lights seemed to be out to get you. The hum of electricity and buzz of the stage crew flitting around setting up for the next scene was starting to make you nauseous.

Lizzie and Scarlett took note of your quiet demeanour and exchanged a look over your head. Your head was still resting in the crook of Scarlett’s neck as you tried your best to look and act normally.

A small part of you craved their motherly attention but you knew if you admitted to being sick, they would have you out of commission for a few days at least as per the contract. And if you were down with some sickness even if it was a migraine Lizzie and Scarlett would be by your side the whole time and as much as you loved them, you didn’t want to put everyone behind schedule due to your inability to handle your day to day life coupled with the demands of work.

However, as you heard the director call for places to be taken you wanted to reconsider.

Scarlett and Lizzie had already been shooting scenes this morning and now you were to join them they seemed happier.

Mary-Kate and Ashley sat down in Scarlett and Lizzie’s chairs to watch. Both twins had taken note of your sullen and quiet temperament also and were tasked by Lizzie with keeping an eye on you.

As you took your place you had forgotten your sunglasses which were still over your eyes. The director finished organising everything and before he called action he took notice of your unusual attire.

“L/n as much as I love the look, the sunglasses need to go kiddo.” He called and you buried a wince under your façade as you knew removing them would make everything ten times worse. But you had to if you wanted to keep up the pretence of wellness.

Taking a deep breath, you eased the sunglasses off your face and blinked in the harsh light. Your nausea increased and you swallowed down the thick feeling in your mouth, wishing you had some water to help.

A stagehand took your sunglasses and handed them to Ashley who has stood to get them for you before she returned to her seat.

Scarlett and Lizzie were observing you closely as they begun to cotton on to your less than perfect act of being ok.

Your eyes were still adjusting to the blaring lights, and you were trying to keep the nausea at bay. You truly felt awful. Your head pounded and there was a slight dizziness that came with each step you took. Your mouth was dry, and your stomach turned with each breath you took.

Doing your best to remain upright and keep your breakfast where it was you took slow measured breaths until you felt at least one percent better.

Schooling your features you did your best to get into character despite your condition.

The director called for quiet, and the set fell dead silent. The cameras began rolling and Scarlett and Lizzie delivered their lines perfectly. Doing your best to stay mentally present you did your best to give your lines. You nailed the first few scenes and you were beginning to think maybe you could get away with it all.

As you were internally celebrating your small victory you watched from the sidelines as Lizzie and Scarlett performed another of their scenes without your character.

Your stomach was still turning and the feeling of nausea which had begun to ebb hit you hard.

Feeling quite sick and dizzy you glanced around to see if anyone was paying attention to you. The stage crew was busy running the scene and it seemed you were in the clear.

As the scene progressed the director was shooting a particular scene with harsh lighting. Still unsure where your sunglasses were, you felt the sick feeling in your stomach get ten times worse as they began amping up the lighting. They had background noise playing and coupled with the lighting you recognised your body’s signals to having enough.

Checking once more that nobody was paying any attention to you, you slipped away to the bathrooms. Know you were going to be sick was a terrible feeling and despite your best to keep it all down you knew you wouldn’t be able to much longer.

You hurried down the halls to the girl's bathroom and slipped inside. Forgetting to lock the door to the stall you sat next to the toilet and leant against the wall taking slow deep breaths in a last-ditch attempt to keep your breakfast.

As you sat on the floor still in costume and breathing slowly you heard the door to the bathroom open again. You recognised the voice of Mary-Kate echo around the stalls.

“Y/n? Are you in here?“ she asked, and you made a small noise before your stomach turned again and you leant over the bowl. As the first wave of sickness hit and you vomited you felt someone take your hair up and off your shoulders.

A soft hand rubbed circles on your back as you finished, spitting the gross taste out. Your head was pounding, and you felt truly gross.

“Shh your ok.” Mary-Kate said as you let out a small whine the pain in your head making everything worse as you clutched your temples. “Is it your head?” She asked softly and you managed a small nod.

You felt her slip something onto your face and you let out a small sigh as you recognised your sunglasses being put in their rightful place.

After a second you leant back against the wall.

“Done?” She asked kindly and you seesawed your hand back and forth to tell her you truly had no idea. Mary-Kate nodded and took a seat beside you on the floor. Luckily, they kept the bathrooms on set rather clean.

Mary-Kate hesitated for a second before gently pulling you into her side where you melted into her. Your head resting on her shoulder she gently played with your hair, and it felt nice despite the pounding in your skull.

“Your ok.” She said softly as she slipped her phone from her pocket. You let your eyes drift shut as you tired to remove yourself from it all.

You distantly heard Mary-Kate talking to someone and you couldn’t find it in your sick-self to pay any attention to her words.

You began to drift off the exhaustion of it all making you feel beyond tired.

Meanwhile Mary-Kate had dialled her twin to let her know what was going on. The twins had taken note of your absence as soon as you left and while Ashley went to check your trailer Mary-Kate had come to check the bathroom. They knew something was going on and they took their promise to Lizzie to look after you quite seriously.

Mary-Kate kept her voice down as she informed her sister of your status.

“Did you find her?” Ashley asked into the phone.

“Yeah, she’s not doing too good.” Mary-Kate replied.

“How so?” Her twin asked.

“I found her throwing up in the bathroom, I think she has a migraine.”

“Poor thing.” Ashley replied.

Mary-Kate hummed her agreement, her nails still gently massaging your scalp as you dozed lightly in her lap. “Can you get Lizzie in here when she’s done with her scene. And tell the director y/n’s sick and won’t be back for filming for a few days.”

“Sure thing. Which bathroom are you guys in?” Ashley responded.

“Main one on set. I don’t think she could have made it much further to be honest she not doing too good.” Mary-Kate whispered well aware you were pretty out of it.

“Alright. I’ll do that and Lizzie will be there soon, no doubt with Scarlett in tow.” Ashley said.

“Thanks Ash I’m gonna stay here with this one.” Mary-Kate said.

“You think she can move somewhere more comfortable?” Ashley asked.

Mary-Kate glanced down at your pale face despite the makeup. “I don’t think so just yet.” She said.

“Alright, love you sis. Keep her safe and we’ll be there soon.” Ashley said.

“Love you too.” Mary-Kate said, and they bid each other goodbye before hanging up.

As Mary-Kate shifted slightly to try and get more comfortable on the hard floor you let out a small whine as your head spun. Mary-Kate shushed you gently as she adjusted you to be better situated in her lap. You curled into her, your face now smushed into her chest as you clung to her like a small child.

“Your ok. It’s alright.” She assured you as you whined softly. The pain making it hard to think straight also made you act much more childish. “Lizzie will be here soon honey.” Mary-Kate said as she ran her nails up and down your back lightly as you were lulled back to a soft sleep.

It couldn’t have been even ten minutes later that the door to the bathroom burst open and a worried looking Lizzie appeared trailed closely behind by Scarlett who looked slighter calmer but still worried.

Unfortunately, the bang of the door made you jump and only made your head hurt more. As the spike of pain stabbed through your temples your stomach revolted once more.

Feeling hazy from the pain you gagged, still half laid in Mary-Kate’s lap. She was quick to sit you upright and position you in front of the toilet. You whimpered as you tried to fight it off.

You heard shuffling and low voices behind you as the person behind you switched places. A soft hand rubbed between your shoulder blades as another scooped the hair off the back of your neck and out of the way. It was Lizzie’s soft voice in your ear whispering reassurances as you heaved.

Nothing but bile came up and you had tears burning in your eyes from the effort. Your head was swimming. Distantly you heard Mary-Kate and Scarlett talking softly outside the stall. There was also a third voice in their conversation, and you assumed Ashley had followed the other two in.

Feeling exhausted you flopped back into Lizzie who was crouched behind you. Not expected you to put all your weight on her she fell on her butt and pulled you into her lap.

“Shhh honey, we’re here baby.” Lizzie whispered feeling your forehead with her cold hand. It brought you unexpected relief and you nuzzled into her palm, head resting on her chest behind you.

Your eyes fluttered shut feeling exhausted, sick and in pain.

After a moment you felt Lizzie readjust behind you as she pulled you into her lap properly, her body now leant against the wall behind her.

Scarlett looked into the stall and frowned slightly at the sight of you half asleep on the bathroom floor.

“How is she?” Scarlett asked softly.

“I think she’s done for now but she’s beyond tired.” Lizzie whispered back. “Where are the twins?”

“They went to set up our trailer for her. She’s not staying alone in her trailer when she’s this sick.” Scarlett said.

“‘M not sick.” You mumbled half listening and lifting your head slightly from Lizzie’s chest.

“Shh go to sleep silly girl, we’re here sweetie.” Scarlett shushed you gently and you rested you head back down once more prompting Lizzie to stroke her hands through your hair with a featherlight touch so as not to cause you any pain. You hummed exhaustedly as you drifted off again to state halfway between sleep and wakefulness.

Scarlett took a seat on the floor beside Lizzie as the two of them sat talking quietly while you dozed.

After another ten minutes the door to the bathroom opened softly to reveal Ashley.

“We set up Lizzie’s trailer for her. Mary-Kate went to try and find some Panadol for y/n/n. Is she good to relocate?” Ashley asked softly.

“I think so.” Lizzie said while Scarlett gently scooped you out of Lizzie’s lap and into her arms as she stood. Ashley came over and gently adjusted the sunglasses on your face.

“I got a sick bag from a medic incase she gets sick on the way back to your trailer and there’s a few extras in your trailer waiting for her.” Ashley said.

“Thank you so much.” Lizzie said as the four of you left the bathroom. Luckily you stayed asleep still throughly exhausted from the effort of being sick and in pain.

It was a short trip back and even despite having sunglasses on scarlet used a hand to shield your eyes from the sun. You were being held across Scarlett’s front with your head resting in the crook of her elbow. At some point Ashley had slid a pair of noise cancelling headphones over your ears to help block out the noise as they passed through the bustling set.

The director had given them all a few days off knowing that Scarlett and Lizzie wouldn’t be willing to act if you were sick and left alone, them much rather being by your side looking after you.

When they made it to your trailer Lizzie opened the door for Scarlett and they all headed inside with you still in Scarlett’s arms.

The trailer had been set up perfectly. Blackout curtains blocked out most of the light but there was enough to see after letting their eyes adjust for a second. There were three sick bags on the bedside table along with a pack of Panadol rapid and a glass of water. The bed had been set up with blankets and pillows, looking perfect for a long day of cuddles.

Scarlett gently set you down on the bed and Lizzie laid down next to you as you immediately sought her out. Curling into her side and returning to a still and restful sleep Scarlett exchanged a few short words with Ashley, thanking her for everything before the twin left to find her other half.

Scarlett joined Lizzie on the bed, and you curled up between them.

“She’s so precious.” Lizzie said softly running her hands through your hair lightly so as not to wake you.

“Well always protect her.” Scarlett said.

“Of course. She’s, our kid.” Lizzie said.

“Do you think she’d ever want to make it official?” Scarlett asked.

“Like adoption?” Lizzie said looking excited at the idea.

“Yeah. I know her parents are … not what she needs.” Scarlett said.

“I think I’d love that. When she’s better we’ll have to ask her what she thinks.” Lizzie said looking down at you with nothing but love in her eyes. She pressed a soft kiss to your temple and traced a finger down your cheek. “I love you my babygirl.”

“We both do.” Scarlett echoed.

My First Fanfic

Thank you for reading this! ObviousIy from the title this is my first fanfic! I hope you like it. I want to thank @doctornineandthreequarters and @slowly-writing for inspiring me to post this. Here goes nothing:

Details: Girl, 16, black hair, brown eyes, tan, tall

Smart, athletic

Superpower: Strength

Suit: Spandex suit iron man looking expect royal blue and black

No, Natasha and Tony aren’t a couple, but the reader thinks of them as/they are her parents.

The battle was heavier than I expected. The rest of the Avengers were all slowly heading either to the Medbay or their rooms in the Tower. I was about to head up to my room, “Aren’t you going to get yourself checked out?” 

I turn around and see Bucky, “No, I’m fine and the others need it more.”

Tony walks by probably heading down to his lab, “What are we arguing about?”

Bucky shrugs, “I told her to get checked out, but she said she’s fine”

I open my mouth, “I’m--”

“ going to let the doctors examine me” Tony continued, “because that is the only answer I am going to hear. You’re still a kid and kids get to go to the doctor and get a lollipop.”

“Fine, but I’m not a kid, I’m sixteen” I grumble, heading down to the Medbay, Tony following me. I start to take the top of my suit off, but halfway I pause and hiss. My eyes start to unfocus and I blink them back into focus. Bruce walks in, “Ok, we’re ready for you guys. Who am I taking?”

Tony speaks up, “Kid, just agreed to get checked out so she can go first.”

Bruce nods and I follow him back to a table. “Can you finish taking your suit off and we’ll get the exam started and you’ll be out of here soon.”

I continue to pull the suit off, but I start swaying, so I look down at my black tank top and it’s covered in blood. Bruce steps forward and puts a hand on my elbow to move me to the table. I blink heavily a few times and I’m sitting on the table. “Is it okay if I help you get the suit off? Bruce asks.

I nod. After peeling it off he says, “I’m going to need you to take that tank top off. You’re still bleeding.”

I pull the tank top off quickly trying to get it over with and gasp, hunched over with pain. Bruce frowns, “You took some serious hits.” 

After using the body scanner he continues, “You have multiple broken ribs besides a small stab wound and heavy bruising” 

Pulling out a flashlight, he shines it into my eyes. Frowning he pulls an IV cart over, sticks an IV into my left arm and says, “The stitches are going to hurt, but try to hold still. You’ll feel better once the pain meds hit your system.” After he’s done with the stitches he says, “I’m going to call Nat over. She can help you change” 

I nod, “Thanks”

Mom comes in a few minutes later and frowns saying, “Buck told me you didn’t want to get checked out, so I knew you were hiding something. Then Bruce tells me you broke some ribs and got stabbed.” She sighs, “Being part of a team means you rely on the team. I know it’s hard, I know it takes a lot of trust, but being part of a team means you don’t have to do everything by yourself. I’m a spy, I know when you’re hiding something. So you’re going to ask us for help if you’re hurt. The sooner you fix it, the sooner it goes away.”

I nod and she helps me change and helps me to my room. Closing my door softly, she whispers goodnight and I fall asleep soon after.

I wake up to see it’s already afternoon. Sitting up slowly, my ribs still hurt, but it’s easier to breathe. Looking at the clock, it’s 2:15 P.M. Seeing as it’s not a school day, I decide to go patrolling early. Mom washed my suit considering it’s not covered in alien blood. Slipping out of my bedroom window, I crawl down the Tower and continue out into the city.

Stumbling, I fall against the brick wall. Apparently going out tonight was not the best idea. I press a button twice on my neck and S.A.T.U.R.D.A.Y, my AI, calls my parents for help. Pushing off the wall, my knees buckle and I trip but manage to stay upright. I have to get back to the Tower. Everything starts spinning. I blink heavily and notice I’m on the ground. As soon as I realize that, my body gives into the black.

My arm is pinched and I rub at it, but a strong hand pushes mine away. Where am I? I immediately try to push myself up but get gently pushed back down. The movement hurts my entire body. I open my eyes and see Steve. I open my mouth, but my mouth is so dry I can’t talk. He holds water in a straw and helps me sit up and drink it. “Better?” I nodded, wincing as my head starts pounding. “You gave us quite the scare. You should have known better than to go back out there. I have a lecture planned, but I’ll continue when you’re feeling better or better yet wait until your mom and dad finish theirs.”

At this moment Dad stalks in, glaring at me, “You should have known better than to go back out to the field like that. Broken ribs and a stab wound! Thankfully you remembered to press the panic button, but I still had to find you in an alley unconscious. I think the final count is a concussion, broken ribs, stab wound, and a severely sprained knee.” He continues, but his words start blurring together. Blinking I try to follow along if only to say something back, but I can’t. Steve notices and gestures to Tony and they leave.

A few days later…

Limping into the common room, I sit down on the couch. Mom walks in with a glass of orange juice and hands it to me. I squint up at her since the windows are open and it’s really bright in here. Nat looks up at the ceiling and says, “F.R.I.D.A.Y., close the curtains and reduce the overhead lights”.

“Thanks” I mumble looking at the ground.

“Honey I know it’s hard, but you’re doing really well”.

“That’s cause you and Dad took all my electronics and books. I literally can’t do anything.”

A few days later…

“I still can’t even leave the Tower!”

Dad grimaces, “Kid, the last time you left the tower, you got a concussion and a sprained knee. And you left after breaking most of your ribs and getting stabbed. You don’t exactly have a good track record. I get that you have super healing and strength and all that, but your knee still isn’t healed”

I groan and say, “What are you talking about? My knee is fine!”

Tony gives me a look, sighs, and says, “ Says the person sitting on the couch. Besides, I’m going to leave it up to your mother, so suck it up.”

I sigh and head down to the training room. He said I couldn’t go leave the Tower, not that I couldn’t train. Besides, I know Mom is not going to budge, she’s like a brick wall. After finishing my usual punching routine. I start on my kicking routine. After three flying back kicks, my knee is starting to throb. I block out my knee. Starting the motion again, my knee buckles and I push through it and finish the kick, but my knee buckles and twists on landing and I fall to the ground groaning. I hear footsteps and look up to see Clint. He helps me sit up and then takes off my brace and rolls up my sweatpants. My knee is definitely swollen. He smirks and says, “I see you got your mom’s stubbornness, you’re supposed to let it heal”.

“How long have you been here?”

“Since you got here, I was going to start training, but you walked in...”

“So you’re spying on me?”

“Checking on you”

I try and stand but my knee gives out. Clint easily catches me and says, “We’re going to the Medbay. No arguments, you can’t walk”.

Bruce is on his computer when Clint walks in, Bruce sighs and says, “How did I  know you’d be back? You’re just like your parents.”

I laugh, “Isn’t that a good thing?”

Clint smiles and sets me on the exam table and Bruce walks over and starts bending my knee slowly and I wince. He bends it again and I flinch and pull back. He says, “You need to rest your knee. Judging by how swollen it is and that it still hurts after a week, I know you’re not sitting still. If you can stay still for a week, it’ll be healed and I’ll clear you to go patrolling again. Deal?”

I nod, “Fine”

Bruce smiles, “Good. I’m also telling your parents so there’s no chance of you moving around.”

I groan and Clint laughs, “This is going to be a fun week for you! I don’t think I’ve ever seen you sit still.”

Later that night, I’m sitting on the couch with the rest of the team, we’re all sitting in the common room watching movies and eating ice cream because Mom decided that we were going to do a movie night so I would sit still.

Besides, true families are there so you don’t have to do everything alone.

okay, so, there's a lot so we're gonna collapse some. So, 16: The Witcher (games and show), Supernatural, Dark Angel, Glee, Stargate (both SG1 and SGA), MCU, Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, due South, DC (comics and movies), House of Leaves, Sense8, Harry Potter, Les Miserables (book), Doctor Who, and X-Men movies. Oh, and I wrote a lot of NSYNC RPF back in the day but you will never see it. (Unless you literally read it back then and remember one and want to reread it, I’m not ashamed of them if you were also in the pit with me. If that is the case feel free to ask.)

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?  

all some children do is work: this one surprised me, i did NOT think there was this kind of appetite for almost-gen turned-into-a-kid fic, but i do really like the fic itself so i'm contented with its acclaim

method: i mean, it's fake dating, written back when there wasn't much non-modern-AU fake dating in witcher fandom (possibly there still isn't?) so, not surprised

Emergency Pants: this is the one that the Claw chose back in 2012 bc i had written very pornographic tony/bruce about a month after Avengers came out so there was a big appetite for it. i don't much care for it these days except i do still think the tony voice is good

warm you like the sunshine: deeply unsurprised this one is popular (and it's one of my own fics that i reread a lot), it's extremely tender BDSM with a juggernaut pairing, that gets the readers

As often as from thee I go: honestly kinda surprised about this one, which is just a 2500 word confection i wrote for my own satisfaction, but it does have explicit sex and jaskier crying about his feelings so maybe it makes sense

5) Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

I almost always do, but usually just with "Thanks!" unless it's a detailed or lengthy comment.

6) What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

"Long black night, morning frost" (Les Miserables) for absolute certain. One of the very few fics I've written with an outright unhappy and pessimistic ending (although I found it very cathartic to write). For Witcher fics, "Kind" and "go ask alice" are about as sad as I get.

7) What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

Almost all of them, honestly. There's a point in happiness of endings where you really can't distinguish degrees. Probably the most--not saccharine, but distinctly Happy Ending-ish is either "Water like a stone" or "Darling, if you only knew," which to my eternal shame are both Glee fics. In terms of Witcher fics...it's still hard to pick! I think the kidfic trilogy ended very, very happily; I think "If you live through this with me" ended TOO happily.

8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you've written?

I do not, and I don't read them, at least not since the days of the late 90s/early 2000s when I once read a really good Highlander/X-Files crossover (oh, and Martha's cosmic horror fic where Stargate and Angel and I think something else all cross over but it feels quite natural and right). I don't like fusions, either, most of the time.

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Never! In 20 years! I've been extremely lucky.

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

ahahahahahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

yes...yes you could say i write smut. on occasion. you know, when the urge comes on me. i write mostly kink or at least kink-adjacent fic, but i've done some vanilla scenes too, and i write m/m and m/f and (occasionally) f/f. fun fact, my only rimming scene to date was in a f/f/f threesome!

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

I think so? I can't remember, honestly, which sounds dreadful but like...I don't READ the translation, because I am sadly monolingual, but I get a burst of delight when someone asks to do it (or to make a podfic).

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have tried--me and a friend once got like 12k deep into a co-written Tiger and Bunny fic--but it doesn't really work out for me. I am a massive control freak when it comes to writing and absolutely miserable to work with. (Although I wasn't so bad back when we wrote the T&B fic, we just sort of never got around to finishing it. Which is sad, because it was GREAT.)

14) What's your all time favorite ship?

Max/Alec from Dark Angel. I shipped it when I only started watching DA for Jensen's episodes, I shipped it when I fell in love with Max, I shipped it when I frantically hand-wrote notes about the fic I wanted to write, I ship it right now as I'm typing, I will ship it in my grave. Also it's not a het ship bc neither of them are heterosexual, thank you very much.

15) What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

I only post finished fics, but in terms of things I haven't posted, I still think my "For A Good Time Call" fem!jaskier/yennefer(/geralt) AU would have been truly incredible. If you haven't watched that movie go watch it immediately so you can share this beautiful idea with me.

16) What are your writing strengths?

Ohhh, this and the next one are hard, because I truly don't know. Well, besides "porn." I am genuinely good at porn, which is HILARIOUS considering how many more sex scenes I've written than participated in. But overall, I have so much angst and neurosis and tenuous self-worth tied up in writing, I'm a very bad judge of my own skills. Also, it depends on the fandom! In some fandoms I'm good at dialogue, in others not so much. In some fandoms I'm good at pastiching the tone of the source and in others...Not So Much.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

If I had to pick a weakness, though, I'd say concrete imagery/detail. Like, the things that characters are physically doing either out of emotional reaction or just, they're doing something in that scene. Dialogue is usually easier (not sure if it comes out better, but it's easier).

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?  

I used to be mildly annoyed at it but! Now! On AO3! You can put a footnote by the French or whatever, so the reader can jump down to read a translation and then jump right back up. I now feel that if you choose to include dialogue (or any words) in another language from the rest of the story, this is the only acceptable method.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

I remember vaguely in 1996 or so writing a couple pages of Kit whump for the Young Wizards books. I wrote some execrable nonsense in X-Files, but in my defense I had just turned 13. I don't THINK I wrote anything for Star Trek, which was my first fandom. Oh, and I attempted to write fic for Homicide, which I watched in 7th and 8th grade and lied about my age to get onto the good mailing lists (they were actually the bad, racist mailing lists, I would later realize, but again I was 13).

20) What's your favorite fic you've written?

Sorry to disappoint anyone who follows me for Witcher content, but it's either "The absolute absurdity of end-series items" (House of Leaves) or "A quite unlosable game" (Dark Angel). They are both Big Idea fics, and I feel like in both of them I got the Idea across brilliantly, and I'm truly proud of them and think they're the best things I've ever made. (In terms of Witcher fic, it's the kidfic trilogy for sure.)

Burn Out

I finally finished the ending! Since the ending was pretty short, I decided to just combine the two. I bolded part two so you can just scroll down to there if you want. So here’s the finished piece:

Details: Teen reader has fire magic, she gets hurt and then recovery.

We got a mission call early in the morning. Wizards were attacking New York City. Flying up to the top of a building, I turned around, looking for a wizard. You’d think a few wizards wouldn’t need the whole Avengers, but these wizards were strong. My senses start going off and I see one of the wizards behind me. Before I can move, my body stiffens and I can’t move. He’s started a spell. His clothes are a darker version of Doctor Strange’s. As he finishes, the spell I gasp as all the fire in my body disappears. I start gasping for air as he starts another spell. As black spots start blinking across my vision, I see Mjolnir fly across the sky and hit him squarely in the face. Air floods my body and I start falling. Panicking slightly, I push my magic trying to remain in the air, but it’s gone and with that thought, blackness closes in.

Coming out of the blackness, I feel rough concrete underneath me and I feel a hand on my shoulder, Mom’s. When I manage to open my eyes, I see a pair of crystal blue eyes and then my power starts surging inside of me along with something else. I can’t stop it so I push it far away from us so it doesn’t hurt Mom and Doctor Strange. In the distance, I hear an explosion. Then magic flares in my body and I feel like I’m on fire.

Doctor Strange yells, “The spell is taking over her magic. She needs cold water now!” I feel the spinning sensation accompanied with a portal, then ice, cold water. I start thrashing the thing taking over my power trying to get out of the cold water. Doctor Strange puts a hand on my forehead and I drop into a dreamless sleep.

3rd Person

Doctor Strange pulls his hand back and looks up at the ceiling, “F.R.I.D.A.Y., get Bruce in here.”

Natasha stands right by the medical tub, worriedly looking at her daughter and asks, “What the hell happened?”

Doctor Strange answers, “The wizard, as you call him, cast a spell on her to subdue her magic. The spell he started but did not get to finish was a killing spell. Her magic was drained and she’s fighting it, which caused the flare-up.”

Nat swallowed, “Okay. What about physically? And will her magic be fine when she wakes up?”

Strange replies just as Bruce runs in, “I’ll have to see when she wakes up, but it is probable that she will be drained for a few weeks and then have a lot of training in front of her.”

Bruce heads to the tub, “Is she safe to pick up now?”

Strange answered, “Yes, but I do not know her physical injuries.”

After the examination, Bruce replies, “Nothing major, thankfully Sam caught her. Her body is exhausted though. She’ll need a lot of rest.”

Back to Y/N

When I regain consciousness, my body feels like it’s made of solid ice. Prying my eyes open I blink against the harsh light. Blankets are piled on top of me and the heater is on high. I try and move, but I feel like I’ve run a marathon. Using most of my energy I push myself up, my head spinning slightly. Bruce walks in and his eyes widen slightly, “Y/N, I’m surprised to see you up. How are you feeling?”

Just then, I notice the Moon is out, it’s night time. “How long was I out?” I rasp.

“You’ve been out for four days.”

My arms buckle and Bruce gently pushes me back down, “Easy, your body’s still recovering. How do you feel?”

“Like I’ve run a marathon.”

“And your magic?”

I push my fire, but nothing happens. I push harder and blue fire coats my hand. Black spots float across my vision and the fire goes out. I’m breathing heavily and notice that my body is covered in a light sheen of sweat.

“You shouldn’t be touching your magic. Not for a week at least.” I look up and see Doctor Strange in the doorway.

I try and sit back up again, but fail and fall back down to the bed. Thinking back, my thoughts are all jumbled and I’m still exhausted. I blink heavily and my eyes start to close against my will. I push against it, I need answers. I force my eyes back open, “Why? What happened? Where’s Mom?”

Doctor Strange replies more gently, “Clint just told her to get some rest. Which you should also do. We can talk more when you wake up.”

Bruce gives a small smile, “Get some rest, kiddo.”

They both leave and I fall back asleep. Waking up the next time, the memories come right back to me. I open my eyes and see the light streaming through the windows and I try to sit up but Mom pushes me back down. She runs her hand through my hair, “Glad to see your awake. I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you woke up last night. Speaking of that, no magic for a few days.”

I sigh, ‘Can I train at least?”

She laughs, “Probably not, maybe you try and eat something first. On the bright side, you get to miss school for a few days.”

“Fine, I am hungry and no school sounds like fun. Can MJ and Peter come over?”

“Maybe tomorrow, you’re on bed rest for the rest of the day and probably tomorrow. Wanda is here for the rest of the week, then she and Vision will go back to Europe.”

I sit up and Mom frowns but doesn’t tell me to lay back down. I continue, “Yay, I’ve been meaning to spar with Wanda for ages!”

Mom shakes her head, “Nice try, no. I’ll get breakfast.”

When she comes back, I eat breakfast and she turns on the TV and puts on The Force Awakens. Whenever I’m injured, we have a tradition of watching the last trilogy in Star Wars. I think both of us could probably say the movies by memory… probably not a good thing.

Two weeks later….

I head down to the training room. Because of all the superpowers, Tony made a fireproof, lightning-proof, and probably bomb-proof area of the room.

I move to the section of training dummies. They’re spread out around the room, mostly for target practice. I take a deep breath, spread my feet wider apart, and aim for the training dummies. My fire hits the first two dummies squarely in the chest, the next two in the head, and as I aim for the next two, my magic starts flickering. I ignore it, and push through and hit the dummies. As I aim for the next ones, blue fire explodes across all the dummies and flickers out. Doctor Strange walks over and hands me a bottle of water, “You know you can ask for help, right?”

“I don’t need the water, I shouldn’t be losing control--” I cut off with a wince, as my fire flares up internally. Doctor Strange gives me a pointed glance, I roll my eyes and drink the water, and the burning goes away. “Better?”

I ignore the question, “What do you think I should do then?”

“First, when your magic is getting tired, stop. Then you’ll heal faster and be able to do more the next day. Bruce scanned your fire levels last night. You know your magic is just returning.”

I sigh, “I know, but if I would have been faster then I wouldn’t be so weak now.”

“If Thor had not thrown his hammer, you would have been dead.”

I wince at that. Doctor Strange continues, “You’re done practicing for today. You can try again tomorrow.”

I nod knowing he’s right...

(here’s part two!)

It’s been almost a month and my magic is back to normal, except when I use it for extended periods of time, or when my fire burns the most intensely, my body continues to flare up. Doctor Strange stated it was just a lingering effect of the spell, I just wish he could get rid of it or better yet find the wizard who placed it. I know; patience. Everyone keeps telling me. Maybe if patience worked, I would use it more.

“Mom, I’ve been patient, I’ve waited a month. I can control my fire and levitation and Doctor Strange said I could start going back on missions.”

My mom sighs and turns to face me on the couch, “Y/N, I’m just worried that it’s too soon. You’re rushing to get back to the field.”

I counter back, “Should I just wait casually then?”

She smiles at that, “No, I don’t expect that... I guess you can return to missions. But you’re going to start slow.”

“Yay! Thank you!” I squeal, hugging her. She smiles, “I’ll tell Steve and Tony tonight.”

I step off the Quinjet and walk towards Mom sitting on a crate. She stands up when I get close and looks me up and down, “How do you feel?”

“I’m good Mom. My flying and fire were good.”

She lets out a breath at that, “I’m glad you’re almost back to normal. There’s a mission tomorrow if you’re up for it?”

I smile, “Absolutely!”

I walk into the briefing room and Tony stops talking with Rhodey when he sees me, “Glad to have you back, Sparkles!”

Clint lets out a whoop and Sam cheers. Steve smiles, “I’m glad you’re healed, but let’s focus on the mission.”

“First wizards, now aliens. This city sure is popular,” I joke.

Clint grumbled, “I’d be happy if it was less popular.”

“But then we’d be bored!” I say while killing one of the aliens.

“Hey kid, leave some for the rest of us!” Clint jokes.

I retort, “Learn how to fly, and then you’d be able to get more!”

Tony cuts in, “As much as I love the banter--Kid, get to the ground now!”

I bank down quickly, landing next to Thor, who’s battling aliens on the ground next to a Shawarma place. Thor responds, “Young Lady Romanoff has landed, she is beside me.”

As I blast an alien, my magic starts flickering and dread courses through and I realize why just as Tony says, “I see Dr. Doomsday over here.” 

I grab a sword lying on the ground and resume fighting the aliens, Thor casts a worried glance at me but continued fighting. A few seconds later, Clint shouts, “No!”

Mom hissed, “Is Y/N okay?”

Then Bucky laughs smugly, “Yeah, he’s just being a baby because I took his shot. The wizard is gone.”

As he’s talking, I feel my powers coming back to me. Not weak, but as they were last month. Back to normal at last.
