Sonic the Tarot Update #6
Heya! We're going to keep this update briefer than usual. Here is the preview of our Wands suit! The Wands suit traditionally represents one's consciousness and core values and is visualized as Sonic's allies in Sonic the Tarot.
Tumblr media
Our lineart phase is almost at a close, so look forward to the Pentacles suit preview next week! In that post, we will also discuss our current timeline for those interested in production technicalities. Thank you!

IX. The Hermit
This card is about soul-searching, self-reflection, and meditation. Drawing this card indicates a need to block out everyone else's voice for your own, to reconnect with your inner self. So of course, Guru Pathik is featured on this card, since he attempted to help Aang do exactly that. When this card appears, make sure you take a breath and find some time to be alone to reconnect with your inner voice.
--
I'm drawing an Avatar themed tarot deck (Major Arcana only)! Every day I'll reveal a new design. :) Follow along and let me know which one is your favorite!

I’ve already posted some of the art from this deck under the artist’s tag, Brighton Ballard (scroll down past the Royal Tenenbaums and Spirited Away stuff). She’s taken this previously only two-color art and made it full color, and now the deck is currently on Kickstarter. About halfway funded, with 19 days left. Go check it out and help this deck get funded!

Tarot Decks that I think would be Cool
(Some, if not all of these, probably already exist in some way, and I just haven't seen them yet)
1. The Owl House
2. A botanical deck where the major and minor arcana are represented by flowers and plants. Up right, the plants are thriving and reversed they are withered and dying
3. A fae deck with beautiful, ethereal images of fae upright and reversed, you see the more sinister and frightening depiction of the fae
4. Fruits Basket
5. Hazbin Hotel
6. Grimm's fairytale
7. A deck made up of those random/funny Renaissance paintings
8. Classic novel decks. Like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice or Dracula
9. A solar system/constellation deck
10. Avatar the Last Airbender deck
11. The Book of Life/Maya and the Three deck

A:TLA TAROT DECKS
I recently rewatched A:TLA and really wanted a tarot deck inspired by it. I found one that I loved that was out of print (the ATLA tarot by Yappangiearts) and bought it for out of print prices, and I'm absolutely in LOVE with it! That said, it is out of print and going for a lot of money right now, so I wanted to make a post about all of the other ones out there so people know their options! I'm not affiliated with any of these decks or creators, I just love tarot and A:TLA lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Firstly, we have The ATLA Tarot Card Set by ArtByyEmber over on etsy. It's a Major Arcana only deck, meaning it only has the 22 cards of the Major Arcana in it. It retails for $48.99 USD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another option is the Avatar Arcana Tarot Deck from AriannaRoseArt, a full 78 card deck retailing for $62 USD (or $30 USD for the majors only) on their bigcartel shop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we have The Jasmine Dragon Tarot by Camiquinta, which is a full 78 card deck for sale on both etsy at $70 USD and their bigcartel shop for $56 USD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is the White Lotus Elemental Tarot Deck by Raquel aka ArtyAvian. This was a kickstarter and so stock is limited. The deck is a 78 card deck plus 5 bonus cards, and though the version with the guidebook is sold out on their bigcartel shop, the normal 83 card deck and box set is still available for $60, with a free guidebook PDF also available from their shop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally, there's one A:TLA kickstarter currently in funding, The Master of the Elements Tarot Deck. It also features LOK characters and adheres very closely to the Rider-Waite-Smith deck in subject matter as far as I can tell. The lowest pledge that includes the deck is $55 USD, though there are higher pledge options available.

id love to see your collection/list! my tarot niche is cat themed decks but i love seeing what otber people are drawn to :)
My Collection of Divination Decks
You're so sweet! You got it! I wish this post hadn’t taken so long. When it was halfway done I decided to take the pictures myself instead and got overwhelmed so I've done it a bit at a time. Anyways you guys remember that I'm always happy to help you find beginner decks that work for you or decks that fit certain ideas or themes! Rather if that's more inclusivity, certain vibes, the deck being based on animals, plants, etc. Don't be afraid to reach out!
Without further delay, the decks...
The Classic Rider Waite
Tumblr media
This was my first deck as I'm sure it was for a lot of people. I heard a lot of people talking about it and knew a lot of other decks were based on it so I got it. I'm glad it was my first deck because it helped familiarize me with all the Rider Waite based decks yet to come in my practice and it's just a sort of neutral starting point. I could also see the appeal in getting a more themed deck which is why I offer to help beginners find one that fits their needs. The good deck is the deck you'll pick up and use!
The Linestrider Tarot
Tumblr media
This was my first deck that's well... not just the plain old Rider Waite. I was 14 or 15 when I got it so it probably wouldn't be my first pick now, aesthetic wise, but I have a huge soft spot for it. It's always felt like I was in tune with this deck and I love little details like that The Fool has no face and the two of cups are cats! Like isn't that just the cutest? Also it wasn't that expensive and came with a solid box and a thick guidebook, which is always a welcome bonus in my opinion.
The Hedgewitch Botanical Oracle
Tumblr media
Ah, my first oracle deck, as you might have guessed. It was also made by the same artist that made the Linestrider tarot, which you may also have guessed. I'm pretty sure I got them at the same time because I adored this art style so much. I like the way this deck is laid out. There's detailed illustrations of plants, and y'all know I love a deck with plants, as well as the name of the plant and the main theme of the card written on it. I need to use this deck more! Let me know if you guys have tips for doing oracle readings or using oracle decks more.
The Star Spinner Tarot
Tumblr media
I was interested in this deck for its inclusivity. it's also a hopeless romantic deck in my opinion. It has a fairytale sort of art style and you can choose between four different The Lovers cards, two of which are distinctly gay. Also the two of cups are pink mermaids, what else could you possibly want?
The Avatar Arcana
Tumblr media
This deck is based on avatar the last airbender if you couldn't tell or aren't familiar with that series. It's a fandom deck. I was such a feen for it when I found it online. I waited patiently for it for ages. I feel like the selections for what characters go with what cards, especially on the major arcana, are a little on the nose and show that this is more of a novelty deck. But hey, it's a deck themed around a show, I knew what I signed up for, y'know? Anyways I'm very happy to have it!
The Illustrated Herbiary Oracle
Tumblr media
This deck is going here because I wanted to show all the decks in my collection. It was a gift and even though I don't wanna be ungrateful, I'm hard to buy gifts for, and picky about my decks. I usually like decks based on plants (and have several in my wishlist) but this one just isn't my favorite if I'm being honest. I think it's the borders. Either way it's in my collection, which makes it worth note, and who knows! Maybe someone else will love it or just generally be inspired to get a plant based deck.
The Dream Interpretation Oracle
Tumblr media
The cards are unfortunately bent on this deck so there was a slight glare on a few cards, but even if they’re hadn’t been I feel like the cards here or any picture just couldn’t do this deck’s vibes justice. I got it at witchfest (which I'm so excited for this year, that's a whole different happy ramble) and I feel like it really captures the strangeness of my dreams. There are whole cards for things like shoes, or shouting. Shuffling the cards is a weird time indeed.
The Antique Anatomy Tarot
Tumblr media
I feel like this deck is quite popular and for good reason. It’s exactly what it sounds like. It has vintage vibes, it has skulls, it has flowers, these are some of my favorite things to draw so of course they are some of my favorite artistic themes in a deck. I have multiple decks on my wishlist that are just based on skeletons or plants. I love how this deck combines the two. I also like how on the elixirs, the labels on the bottles relate to the card's meaning. Additionally the jumbling of body parts in a lot of the coins suit, particularly the four of coins shown is also an aspect I like. It just looks neat to me.
The Fyodor Pavlov Tarot
Tumblr media
This is by far my favorite deck so this section will be so so long and I'm not sorry! This is double special interest material. I'm t4t and deserve to gush about my representation damn it. So I’ve been trying to stick to 6 cards max with maybe the back of the card's pattern or box shown for these pictures, however this deck is my favorite and just too good to contain with such restrictions. I worked so hard to get this deck. I saw The Lovers card online and fell in love. The card's artwork is t4t and I'm SO t4t and so in love with just The Lovers card as an art piece in general. Anyways after I found just that card somewhere online I said a prayer that a full deck by the artist existed, and went on the hunt for it. I found it. I originally found the kickstarter, which had stopped, and after some digging found out the artist had moved the sales to Etsy. The artist was packaging small batches all on his own. I tried to get it twice off Etsy and both times it sold out immediately. The deck has now had an official release and is a lot easier to get. I preordered that newer version and waited months and months for my beloved and it was by FAR so worth it.
I love that this deck is Rider Waite based but inclusive to various experiences. This includes the minority representation, but also details like how the queen of cups is pregnant. Maybe I don't look at a lot of decks but I feel like I don't see that very often and I think details like that are cool. As you'd probably expect, the artist is queer and trans and I love that and supporting them and that kind of artwork. He's also a tattoo artist and I feel like that shows in his work. I love artwork with ink, but I'm biased, because my artwork is usually ink based. Also I already put too many cards in the picture so they're not there but shoutout to Strength and The Hermit in this deck for being women.
Basically I love this deck more than I can put into words!
The Tarot of Pagan Cats
Tumblr media
The newest addition to my collection! This is a mini deck that makes me want about ten million more cat themed decks. When I decided to take the pictures myself for this post I added some other cards. Originally I was just gonna have The Tower though. I feel like it tells you everything you need to know. This deck is adorable and charming. The Fool makes me laugh as well as The Tower and Strength. The Lovers, as well as the two and ten of cups are just precious. The design for Death is perfect. Fuzzy, and somehow still comes across as stern. I want more cat decks!!!
(Also side note down here real quick for that one person, someone asked if I could go over how the decks personalities differ from each other but I found I was very bad at putting that into words especially in this post so that will have to be something I talk about elsewhere if I do!)
This post was about gushing and the vibes but if you guys want beginner deck recommendations, help finding a deck that fits your niche, or for me to show off my wishlist in a similar style, just ask!
Thanks for letting me gush and reading the whole post. I had such a fun time making it ❤️

"The journey of the protagonist is our journey, shaped by all decisions. This is the meaning of the contract signed at the beginning of the game. In signing, we're choosing to face death and see the journey to its conclusion.
What is that journey exactly? It's all revealed in a deck of tarot cards. Or, as Nyx would say, "The Arcana is the means by which all is revealed".
The tarot cards tell a story in numerical order, representing the spiritual growth and transformation of an individual as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery. The P3 hero finds himself in the role of this individual as he holds the power of the Fool, the first card in the Major Arcana bearing the number zero. The illustration on this card depicts a foolish wanderer. His innocence and naivety of the world suggest some unlimited possibilities as he moves through the Major Arcana.
He encounters archetypal figures representing the different stages of life. He must incorporate these experiences into himself if he is ever to realize his full potential. These appear as the Social Links, the bonds with other people the hero must forge to strengthen his personas.
But there's always a duality to the archetypes, and this also holds true for the tarot cards as well.
The Shadows also bear the Arcana, making them necessary obstacles on the Fool's Journey. The Arcana of the Shadows stands in opposition to that of the Social Links; one represents the card in its positive, upright position, and the other in its reversed, negative position.
Each one of these Arcana is a learning experience, a chance for the Fool to catch a glimpse of the many universal truths passed down by the collective unconscious." (Blasckk)
But Nyx Avatar's arcanas also end in death when in tarot death is only the midpoint of the Fool's Journey. Is the end of one thing but also the begining of something new
“Beginning with "The Fool" and ending with "The World"... they tell a story in numerical order that is a metaphor of an individual's journey through life. Each Major Arcana represents a stage on that journey... an experience that the individual must incorporate to realize his oneness. They are all important, so let's take a look at each of the 22 cards, one by one." (P3 Edogawa)
"The final card is The World, which represents the individual's full awareness of his place in the world.” (P3 Edogawa)
"Naturally, the Universe, as the culmination and integration of all arcanas, is nothing but the very own archetypal tree and man embodied, the potentiality of life as Aleister Crowley described it ... As the final arcana, the Universe is also the end of existence and its meaning. It’s the full realization of the primordial Nothingness that the Ein Sof is, not through being anything in particular but through being everything that has existed and exists, thus truly being nothing. ... So all in all, this means the Universe is the collective unconscious itself. Not a fragment of it, or just holding a part of its power, but ALL of it. And at the same time, it’s also the full realization of it, the dispersal of all unconsciousness and primitiveness into an harmonic whole that knows itself, equal in every sense to the incarnation and realization of the Ein Sof within the tree of life. It’s the archetype of all humanity (ie. the source of the previously mentioned Adam Kadmon) and life, their potentiality and meaning, their purpose.
...
Then, the final confrontation between the protagonists and Nyx isn’t only for the sake of present life, but also for all that has existed previously and its legacy, even Nyx itself. It’s the affirmation of life’s meaning and purpose against what once was and wishes to return to… and what must be ultimately confronted. It’s both the separation from everything that has happened, and its acceptance and forgiveness. That’s why the Universe can’t really go against Nyx, because they are the same, and thus the arcana must accept it." (Meliane)
It's about finding worth in the burden of existence even though it's hard and the struggle seems unending. P3 is less about depression and more about how to live in the face of death. All things end so what are you going to do in the mean time.

So, the tarot thing. I kind of started this not doing too much research into the tarot deck and its meanings. I thought the fool would be a good place to put Sokka for a few reasons (it was originally going to be Aang for obvious reasons). I chose Sokka because he's the one who not only goes through the most change in this series but he causes the most change. Aang is the Star if it makes anyone feel better.
Also, I have the major arcana pretty much sorted out if anyone wants to see the list. The Cups, Swords, Pentacles and Wands are going to be split between the four elements and who I can jam into there since some have more main characters than the other.
If you want the list it's under the cut:
Major Arcana:
The Fool- Sokka The Magician - Avatar Wan The High Priestess - Toph The Empress - Katara The Emperor - Iroh The Hierophant - Iroh II The Lovers - Varrick & Zhu Li The Chariot - Asami The Strength - The Inventor The Hermit - Mako The Wheel Of Fortune - Ozai The Justice - Amon The Hanged Man - Unalaq The Death - Korra The Temperance - Zuko The Devil - Zhao The Tower - Kuvira The Star - Aang The Moon - Yue (what else would she be) The Sun - Jinora The Judgement - Azula The World - Bolin

ATLA tarot: Judgement
Tumblr media
I’ve been redrawing my ATLA tarot deck, and I’m really proud of the Judgement card, which is about spiritual awakening, transformation and absolution - so of course I’ve symbolized that as the Avatar State!

Sonic the Tarot Update #4
Greetings everyone! Today we wanted to show you the WIP lines of the Cups suit!
The Cups suit traditionally represents feelings and relationships, and in Sonic the Tarot features stages/locations from the Sonic franchise.
Can you recognize any familiar places?
Tumblr media
In terms of our progress, we are almost done with the lines for the Wands suit. That means that between the rest of the Wands and the Pentacles suits, we have less than twenty cards to line! As a reminder, Sonic the Tarot will be colored and rendered in a classic comic book style--think old Archie or Fleetway Sonic comics or the works of Roy Lichtenstein (see examples below).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We currently do not foresee coloring to take nearly as long as lines given our choice of stylization.
It's extremely exciting to see how far along we've come, and we can't wait to share more in the future. Stay tuned for a poll regarding the box/booklet cover art soon!

Legitimately so much credit to Toei though for the shadow and mirror motif and aesthetic.
Like Dark Yuugi in the manga is mostly associated with being Yuugis doppelganger more than anything else. A double, another "side" or another "face." They don't really play much into his nature as a ghost, mostly for the reveal in Battle City.
The dark games themselves are death games, without much magical nature beyond the occasional illusion. Quite a lot is left ambiguous. Dark Yuugi has a motif of illusion more than shadow. Which makes sense. He himself is an illusion of Yuugi when he's someone else.
But illusion is definitely his made "theme" as a spirit.
Illusions as punishments, Magician of Dark Illusion, Ebon Illusion Magician, Apprentice Illusion Magician, illusion of avarice being his first penalty game. He's associated with being the magician as his tarot card. Not a ghost. His theming is a mage of illusion.
It's Toei that leaned hard into that "dark spirit" idea, creating the incredibly famous idea of Dark Yuugi as Yuugis "shadow," with the golden eyes. It's iconic at this point, seeping into the fandom as something that's just a Thing. Toei also had Yuugi's face reflected in Dark Yuugi's mirror game with Ms Chono, which was later added to Yu-Gi-Oh R.
Yu-Gi-Oh R also pulled a lot of the "inky dark shadow" aesthetic from Toei when it comes to the Wicked Gods, down to Dark Yuugi's "Underworld Deck" and the Wicked God Eraser and Wicked Avatar's appearances. It feels like a love letter to fandom, really.
It's fascinating.

What type of DR should i focus on right now?
❊ TAROT/ORACLE: Oh that's very interesting... I think an "open space" DR where there is perhaps not much going on but there is lotsss of abundant nature - endless hills, forests, rivers and fields wherever you look. The experience there could be like a journey through mystical land. Do you like dragons because I had the image of a majestic blue dragon in my mind lol. Life there could seem very slow, or it's a DR where you can live an unusually long life (ex. your immortal or have long life span). Ideally, this should be a place where you have lots of time on your hands to rest or to plan or to work on things you're interested in. It could also be a place where you have the chance to gather lots of knowledge/experiences and work with others together or a place where you can process the things you experienced in other realities - this DR could function as a waiting room for you!
❊ DR GENRE DECK: royal life + utopia + shifting for the world as reason (ex. world of avatar twow or of hogwarts...) + crossover dr + with people around you + world based on a book + simple waiting room + romance/love

ORGANIC & FRESH FORTUNES?!
Tumblr media
Leave me a question to be answered through divination (for free).
INSTRUCTIONS AND HOUSEKEEPING BELOW
I prefer that you use the ask feature, unless you feel uncomfortable because your topic is too personal, in which case, feel free to message me instead.
You can be anonymous and as vague or specific as you want (which might reflect on the answer) and request a simpler or more complex reading.
Even though I'll choose the deck (from Lenormand, Oracle, Tarot, and Archetypes) depending on which suits your question better, tell me if you have a preference or are curious about one, and I'll be sure to take that into account.
You may also opt for bibliomancy (with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There) and/or shufflemancy (using my Spotify library), complementary to the cartomancy, or without it.
This is a way for me to practice my divinatory skills. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of free time, and the readings do take a while to come out — so keep that in mind :]
* No medical, legal or financial advice.
** Leave some kind of ID. (Astrology stuff works but is not necessary; I don't study it.)
*** Content warnings are very appreciated.
About how I read:
I believe that divination is not just getting to know a future set in stone, but that it can be a way to make sense of what feels bigger than us, and even learn how to play with it.
Your reading won't say “this is definitely going to happen to you”; it'll be more along the lines of understanding your circumstances and what will most probably happen if you keep on that path, or choose another one, and how to go about it. It's all about freewill and helping get some perspective and the power to accept or change it.
With that said, I will also never tell you that “you control your reality 100%”, “everything in your life is manifested by your thoughts”, or similar bullshit. We don't live in a perfect world with a fair socioeconomical system where everyone has the same opportunities, and such harmful and ableist ideas are not welcome in this space.
[If you want to know more about these or other aspects of my belief system, how I read, my methods etc: I'm open to talking/posting about it, and I plan on it when I have the time.]
Readings are tagged OMEN DEAL.
Everything else is under #NOT AN OMEN.
The featured tags include the types of divination too.
The avatar, header, and image on this post are paintings by Elioth Gruner, respectfully called Spring Frost, Morning Light and Summer Morning.
