*looking up recipes*
Regular recipe: "this is the best cake you'll ever taste, but if you attempt to use cake flour or gluten free flour the recipe will fail. I do not have any recipes modified for gluten free flour because gluten is a mandatory part of the baking process and all gluten free baked goods are too dense and dry for me to embarrass myself by serving them to my guests."
Gluten free recipe: "this isn't just the best gluten free cake you'll ever have, it's the best cake you'll ever have period. It must be made with the niche artisanal $32 flour mix that contains corn or you must purchase a kitchen scale, three pounds of ultrafine white rice flour, two pounds of ultrafine brown rice flour, tapioca starch, and xantham gum to make an acceptable substitute."
Gluten free recipe site: "these [corn containing] g-free flour mixes can be used if you can't mix your own or can't get the niche brand. The pre-made mix that is available in your local grocery store and contains none of your allergens is unfortunately garbage and I wouldn't feed it to my dog. It might be tolerable for cookies, if you're feeding children you particularly dislike."
*closes recipe sites and opens a boxed cake mix*
Anyway it turns out that trader Joe's has sprinkles I can eat so I had sprinkles for the first time in thirteen years and now that I've eaten half the bag I want to put them on something.

I’m a sucker for almost any novelty food on the market. Pickle soda? You bet. Cotton candy grapes? Sign me up. Balsamic ice cream? I’ll take three scoops. So, last month, when I heard that Pringles was releasing an everything bagel flavor, I knew it was my duty to try and secure the snack.
According to the Pringles website , the chip is supposed to have “flavor notes of sesame and poppy seeds followed by hints of cream cheese that perfectly blend with toasted onion and garlic.” Which, to my wrecked palate, is a pretty tame combination of flavors, especially given the everything bagel craze of the past few years (partially thanks to the Trader Joe’s seasoning that lets you make practically anything taste like a morning deli run).
Since the snack was declared a limited edition item, I knew in order to test out the chips, time was of the essence. However, when I looked around at my local grocery store, there weren’t any everything bagel Pringles to be found.
At first, I wasn’t too thrown off. After all, I live in New York, the bagel aficionado’s natural habitat — maybe they just sold out.
To widen my search, I went to the official Pringles site where they have a handy function that tells you if a product is stocked in your area. But, as soon as I put in my search address, I got this crushing result: There was no product to be found. No chips anywhere near Brooklyn? An alleged Metropolitan area? It seemed too strange to me.
I then asked my coworkers in Florida and New Jersey to try locating the chips near them, but no luck. I even messaged my friend on the West Coast to search for the chips in the carb-starved southern California area and we still drew a blank.
How could this be? From Cuban sandwiches to Korean barbecue, I see a chip lover’s darkest and wildest fantasies populating the shelves daily. Are everything bagel Pringles really that in demand? Did some shadowy collector swipe all of them as soon as they hit the market in order to upsell, like an Eras Tour ticket?
I began to feel defeated, unworthy of my self-proclaimed status of  “novelty chip sucker.” Then it occurred to me: What if this is all a hoax?
When looking up the chips online, almost zero reviews come up, just basic announcements of their supposed existence. On the Pringles site, there are actually only two customer reviews: one from a user named “Pringles Fan” and the other named “Popcorn” who both demand that we should “buy the chips immediately.” Sounds a little suspicious, no? If only we could, Popcorn!
I promise I’m not your everyday conspiracy theorist, but I’ll be honest, I’m at a loss. It just doesn’t feel right. Why would Pringles do this to us? Everything bagels have been enjoyed by New York Jews since the 80s. A bagel-flavored chip just isn’t clickbait-y enough to warrant the theatrics of a full fake marketing campaign. Or the scarcity supply-and-demand technique used on elusive popular products like the McRib. So what exactly is going on here?
I reached out to the big wigs at Pringles HQ directly about this debacle, and a customer service representative explained it this way:
“This [product] was available for a limited time only. Special packs are very popular and sometimes stores run out of stock quickly.”
For now, I’ll guess I’ll just have to accept the fact that maybe me and everything bagel Pringles weren’t meant to meet.
Like Bigfoot, the loch ness monster and the boogeyman, people can claim that these chips exist all they want. However, I’ll only believe it when I see it.

Coffee Futures- Navigating the Volatile World of Commodity Trading
The global coffee market is an intricate web of farmers, exporters, importers, roasters, and retailers. But beyond the cups of morning joe lies a high-stakes world of commodity trading, where coffee futures attract traders with their volatility and profit potential. If you’re intrigued by this dynamic market, understanding the fundamentals and nuances of trading coffee futures is essential.
In this article, we’ll delve into the mechanics of coffee futures, the factors driving their volatility, and strategies for navigating this exciting yet unpredictable commodity.
What Are Coffee Futures?
Coffee futures are standardized contracts that obligate the buyer to purchase, or the seller to deliver, a specified amount of coffee at a predetermined price on a set future date. These contracts are primarily traded on exchanges like the Intercontinental Exchange (ICE).
Tumblr media
Coffee is classified into two main types for trading purposes:
Arabica: A higher-quality coffee grown at high altitudes, primarily in Latin America.
Robusta: A lower-cost, stronger-flavored coffee grown in regions like Vietnam and Brazil.
Arabica futures are the most traded contracts, representing a benchmark for global coffee prices.
Why Trade Coffee Futures?
Hedging: Producers, exporters, and importers use coffee futures to hedge against price fluctuations, ensuring stable income or costs.
Speculation: Traders profit from price movements without needing to own the physical commodity.
Diversification: Coffee futures offer an opportunity to diversify portfolios, as they often react differently to global economic trends compared to stocks or bonds.
The Volatility of Coffee Futures
Coffee futures are among the most volatile commodities. Prices can swing dramatically due to a variety of factors, including:
1. Weather Conditions
Coffee is highly sensitive to weather changes. For instance, frost in Brazil, the world’s largest coffee producer, can severely impact crops and drive prices sky-high.
2. Supply and Demand Dynamics
Supply: Coffee production depends on agricultural conditions, labor availability, and geopolitical stability in producing countries.
Demand: Global trends in coffee consumption, such as the rise of specialty coffee shops, influence demand.
3. Currency Fluctuations
Coffee is priced in U.S. dollars on global exchanges. Changes in the value of the dollar or local currencies of coffee-producing nations can impact trading prices.
Tumblr media
4. Geopolitical and Economic Factors
Political instability in key producing countries, trade tariffs, and global economic conditions can all lead to significant price changes.
How to Trade Coffee Futures
1. Understand the Market Basics
Familiarize yourself with the coffee industry, its supply chain, and major players. Understand seasonal patterns, such as peak harvest periods, which often influence price trends.
2. Choose a Trading Platform
Select a reliable trading platform offering access to ICE coffee futures. Ensure the platform provides analytical tools, charts, and real-time data to aid your decision-making.
3. Learn the Contract Specifications
For Arabica coffee on ICE:
Contract Size: 37,500 pounds
Tick Size: 5 cents per pound ($18.75 per tick)
Delivery Months: March, May, July, September, and December
4. Analyze the Market
Use a combination of:
Fundamental Analysis: Study supply-demand factors, weather reports, and global coffee consumption trends.
Technical Analysis: Examine price charts, trends, and indicators to identify potential entry and exit points.
5. Practice Risk Management
Set stop-loss orders to limit potential losses. Never trade more than you can afford to lose, as coffee’s volatility can lead to significant gains or losses.
Tumblr media
Trading Strategies for Coffee Futures
1. Seasonal Trends Strategy
Coffee prices often follow predictable seasonal patterns. For example, prices may rise during Brazil’s winter (May to August) due to the risk of frost.
2. News-Based Trading
Stay updated on coffee-related news, such as weather forecasts, production reports, or policy changes in major coffee-producing nations. Use this information to anticipate price movements.
3. Spread Trading
This involves buying and selling futures contracts with different delivery months to profit from price discrepancies. For example, you might buy a March contract while selling a July contract if you expect prices to rise in the near term.
4. Hedging with Options
Options on coffee futures allow you to hedge against adverse price movements while maintaining upside potential. Buying a put option, for instance, protects against falling prices.
Case Study: The Brazilian Frost of 2021
In July 2021, severe frost hit Brazil’s coffee-growing regions, significantly damaging crops. As a result, Arabica coffee futures surged to a seven-year high, with prices rising over 30% in just a few weeks.
For traders who anticipated the frost’s impact, this event provided substantial profit opportunities. It also highlighted the importance of monitoring weather patterns and staying prepared for sudden market shifts.
Risks of Coffee Futures Trading
While the potential rewards are attractive, coffee futures trading comes with inherent risks:
High Volatility: Rapid price changes can lead to significant losses if positions are not managed carefully.
Leverage Risk: Futures trading involves leverage, amplifying both gains and losses.
Knowledge Gap: Without a deep understanding of the market, traders can make costly mistakes.
Tips for Successful Coffee Futures Trading
Stay Informed: Follow coffee market reports, weather forecasts, and economic news.
Start Small: Begin with smaller positions to minimize risk as you learn the market’s intricacies.
Use Demo Accounts: Practice trading with virtual money before committing real capital.
Diversify Your Portfolio: Avoid overexposure to coffee by balancing your investments with other commodities or asset classes.
The Future of Coffee Futures
The coffee market is evolving, driven by sustainability concerns, climate change, and shifts in consumer preferences.
Sustainability: Growing demand for sustainably sourced coffee may influence production practices and costs.
Climate Change: Increasing climate unpredictability poses risks to coffee yields, likely amplifying price volatility.
Digital Trading: Advances in technology, such as AI-driven trading algorithms, are reshaping commodity trading.
As these trends unfold, the coffee futures market will remain a fascinating arena for traders seeking to capitalize on its unique dynamics.
Conclusion
Trading coffee futures offers a blend of challenge and opportunity. The market’s volatility, driven by factors ranging from weather to global demand, creates profit potential for well-prepared traders. By understanding the fundamentals, employing effective strategies, and practicing diligent risk management, you can navigate the exciting world of coffee futures with confidence.
Whether you’re a seasoned trader or a newcomer, coffee futures provide a dynamic way to engage with one of the world’s most beloved commodities. So, brew your knowledge, sip on some analysis, and prepare to trade in the thrilling coffee market.

Too Much Bread
At the risk of sounding really old—I know, that may be a foregone conclusion already—it’s fun to slip into storytelling mode. And believe me, now that I’m into my 36th year at WT, I have plenty of them. Your job is to nudge me if I start to tell you the same story again down the road.
I remember my very first semester here in the Fall of 1989. I was teaching a Principles of Marketing class among others, and since we didn’t have the internet on campus, and certainly not online courses, this was a twice-weekly face-fo-face encounter.
And there was a young woman in that class who brought plenty of her own stories to each session. As much as my Midwest accent betrayed my origins, her thick eastern European accent suggested strongly she wasn’t at all even remotely from around here.
Turns out she and her family had recently immigrated to Amarillo from Poland, or as it was known when they were escaping it, the Polish People’s Republic. It was anything but a republic, because it was under the control of the USSR. Think rationing, shortages, and the usual ineptness associated with that regime.
In one particular class session we were discussing consumer choice. I had thrown out such lofty topics as product attributes, price, manufacturers, and the like, things we kind of take for granted. We know we can just go to any supermarket and enter a world bazaar of products. We are pretty accustomed to having choices.
But she wasn’t.
She related how people relied on the grapevine and scattered news alerts that bread was available at the local supermarket, which, based on her recollections, wasn’t all that super. Think empty shelves. And when they did have bread, there was one kind. Take it or leave it. One size fits all. If they ran out, oh well.
Tumblr media
It was thus no surprise when she and her family froze in our supermarkets, because not only did we have bread all the time—well, aside from when they put the word “snow” in the weather forecast—we have 30 or more varieties. Cheap bread. Whole wheat bread. Rye bread. Fancy breads. You name it, we have bread. You might think we grow some wheat around here.
My student went on, one tale after another, of how their transition to the US, albeit one they wanted, was difficult if only because we have it so good here. I wisely put down my lecture notes and let her do the talking, because I couldn’t begin to teach as well as she was doing.
In contrast, we have grown numb to so much choice, and once we have determined “our brand,” we can boldly walk down the bread aisle and quickly cut through all the clutter, grabbing the one we always do.
Well, that is until they are out of it, or life throws you a curveball, like my wife and a recent diagnosis of being pre-diabetic. Another family member was just declared Type 1 diabetic. Both are having to make massive dietary changes, which essentially means reading every damn label and trying to cut out carbs. That’s no easy task in a country that grows so much wheat and corn. Most of our food is little carbohydrate bombs.
The same holds true when you are trying something new, like following a recipe for a new dish, and you are starting with a clean slate, no accumulated memory, little or no product knowledge. A person could spend an hour in the store trying to figure out which curry or pho noodles to buy.
It’s an interesting conundrum we have here, living in the land of abundance with more choices than we can begin to tally. Amazon alone has more than 12 million products. Enter a search query and wait to be overwhelmed. And yet we somehow manage to survive.
Sometimes, though, too much choice can be crippling, as I was trying to convey a few days ago when I said that “less is more.” At least sometimes it is, and only to a point. Grocery chains like Aldi and Trader Joe’s abide by this mantra, with only about 4000 items, compared to the 45,000 you will find at major chains.
There’s actually a line of academic inquiry of this phenomenon called the Paradox of Choice. As you can imagine, the conclusion is that having too many options can lead to decision fatigue, and even post-purchase regret. It’s a topic we will discuss again later in the course. It is also a topic that can be applied into other arenas, like the Mating Game. Think about all of the prospects for the partner of your dreams. Yikes! It is no wonder that dating can be exhausting. It’s kind of like shopping in the world’s largest supermarket.
Thankfully, when it comes to less complicated acquisitions—bread versus a life partner—we have developed a defense system, as I noted earlier. We can blur the background like on a Zoom call, and focus on the one thing we want. It’s just that it doesn’t always work like that.
I wonder whatever happened to that young woman. She’s got to be in her late-50s now, and no doubt long acclimated to the land of plenty. In her extreme state, though, as a newbie here, it was the perfect illustration for how too much choice can lead to headaches.
I am sure, though, that it was a hell of a lot better than standing in a queue in Krakow hoping there’s still a loaf of bread left when it’s my turn to get in.

Although there are Austin's demerits and merits of residing, there are various aspects that are worthy of note. This article will provide a detailed breakdown about the question "how much does it cost to live in Austin, Texas," touching on housing, transport, food, healthcare, and others.
Housing Costs in Austin, Texas
Renting in Austin Housing is most likely the most considerable financial demand for people living in an area. The rental rate in Austin differs widely across different communities, determined by the type of housing structure and the location.
For a one-bedroom apartment, the average price range would be about $1,200 to $1,800 per month. If you want to live in a two-bedroom apartment, it usually costs between $1,500 and $2,400 per month.

These bigger ones are more appropriate for families, roommates, and those who often require more space for their activities and stuff. The top edge of these price categories usually refers to luxury locations, new buildings, and better facilities.
Districts like Downtown Austin and areas surrounding the central business districts and academic institutions usually have the most expensive prices. On the other hand, living in the suburbs is a cheaper option.

– it’s important to compare options to ensure you’re getting a good deal. 4. Depop: Best for selling clothes With Depop, users can sell their old clothes and accessories. Depop began as a social network for younger creatives to connect with new designers.
Today, the app is a widespread online marketplace that boasts about 30 million registered users. Anyone can create an account with Depop to list items, and the app offers seller services to teach users the ins and outs of selling on the online marketplace.
Once listed, an item can be liked or bookmarked by potential buyers, and there’s a messaging service embedded in the app so buyers and sellers can communicate. Sellers also have the option to offer international shipping. In addition to clothing, there are categories for homeware, sports equipment, magazines and more.
ProsCons5.

Signing up to become a Tasker is relatively simple — you download the app, select the services you want to offer and complete a verification process. You set your own availability and rates. There is, however, a one-time $25 registration fee for Taskers to use the app.

The seller determines the price of each tier and can offer services on their own schedule. Payment is electronically dispersed to the seller as soon as the order is completed, though it takes up to two weeks to clear, unless you’re a top-rated seller. Sellers keep 80 percent of the payment while
Fiverr takes a 20 percent cut. Pros There are many service options for freelancers. Fiverr holds the funds from buyers before you deliver a service, so that you don’t have to worry about buyers owing you money.
Cons8.

You can also earn points by adding the Survey Junkie Pulse extension to your browser, which shares your digital browsing activity (such as shopping activity and website engagement) with market researchers.
Points can then be redeemed for cash via PayPal or gift cards with popular retailers, as long as you have a minimum of 500 points ($5) to redeem. Survey Junkie states that all data collected from both survey responses and digital activity are encrypted and collected directly by the researchers. Users can choose what they want to share to maintain privacy.
Pros
Earning money is easy by taking surveys and sharing data. You only need $5 worth of points to redeem them – some apps have much higher minimums to redeem earnings. Cons Payouts can be low for surveys. For Survey Junkie Pulse, some users may not be comfortable sharing their digital data.

What is a good quality of coconut milk?
A good quality coconut milk should possess the following characteristics:
Creaminess: Coconut milk should have a creamy consistency, indicating a high content of coconut fat. It should be smooth and velvety when poured or incorporated into recipes.
Flavor: Coconut milk should have a rich, natural coconut flavor without any off-notes or artificial taste. The aroma should be pleasant and reminiscent of fresh coconuts.
Color: High-quality coconut milk typically has a slightly off-white color, indicating that it contains a good amount of coconut cream. Avoid coconut milk that appears too watery or excessively white.
Ingredients: Look for coconut milk with minimal and natural ingredients. Ideally, it should contain only coconut extract and water without any additives, preservatives, or artificial flavors. Organic and non-GMO options are also available for those seeking higher quality.
Source: Consider the sourcing and origin of the coconuts used to make the milk. Coconuts grown in organic and sustainable farms tend to produce better quality milk. Check for brands that prioritize ethical and sustainable practices.
Consistency: Coconut milk should have a consistent texture throughout the can or package. It should not separate or have a chunky or grainy texture. Shake the can or container before using to ensure the contents are well mixed.
Packaging: Coconut milk is commonly available in cans, tetra packs, or cartons. Opt for packaging that is designed to preserve freshness and prevent contamination. Ensure the packaging is intact and not dented or damaged.
Brand reputation: Consider reputable brands that have positive customer reviews and a history of producing high-quality coconut milk. Look for brands that specialize in coconut-based products or have a strong presence in the market.
It's worth noting that the desired consistency and fat content may vary depending on the recipe you intend to use the coconut milk for. Some recipes may call for thick coconut cream, while others may require a lighter consistency.
Which coconut milk is healthier choice?
In terms of health, choosing a healthier coconut milk option involves considering factors such as the fat content, additives, and processing methods. Here are a few factors to consider when selecting a healthier coconut milk:
Fat Content: Coconut milk is naturally high in saturated fats, which can impact heart health when consumed in excess. If you're concerned about saturated fat intake, you may opt for lighter versions of coconut milk, such as reduced-fat or light coconut milk. These varieties have a lower fat content and fewer calories compared to full-fat coconut milk.
Additives and Preservatives: Check the ingredient list to ensure that the coconut milk doesn't contain unnecessary additives, preservatives, or sweeteners. Some brands may include additives like guar gum, which is used as a thickening agent. If you prefer a more natural option, choose coconut milk without additives.
Organic and Non-GMO: Organic coconut milk is produced without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, and non-GMO options are free from genetically modified organisms. Opting for organic and non-GMO coconut milk can be a healthier choice, especially if you prioritize consuming foods that are free from chemical residues and genetic modifications.
Unsweetened Varieties: Some coconut milk products may contain added sugars or sweeteners, which can contribute to increased calorie intake and potential health concerns. Choosing unsweetened coconut milk allows you to control the amount of sweetness in your recipes and promotes a healthier overall diet.
Freshly Extracted Coconut Milk: If available, freshly extracted coconut milk can be a healthy option as it is minimally processed and free from additives or preservatives. You can extract coconut milk at home by grating fresh coconut meat and straining it to obtain the milk.
Remember that moderation is key when consuming coconut milk due to its high saturated fat content. It's essential to balance your overall diet and consider the nutritional composition of the coconut milk in relation to your individual dietary needs and preferences.

Tried Moonlight Meadery’s Little Apples, a cider that’s aged in rye whiskey barrels. It had a bit of a backbone to it, a hard whiskey taste. Definitely less whimsical than the name implies.

Icy Haloes
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Warnings: brief mention of pneumonia and death in the first paragraph, excessive use of commas.
A/N: I’ve been suffering the worst writer’s block, but I think I’m starting to shake it off with this work, so finger’s crossed we get an update on one of my WIPs soon! Big thanks to @nacho-bucky and @captain-kelli for the extremely helpful advice that allowed me to produce a half-decent piece of writing after who-knows-how-long. It’s also hotter than Hell right now, and it was soothing to escape into a NYC winter while writing this, if you’re wondering where the inspiration came from.
Tumblr media
Bucky hates the cold. He detests the way it bites into his bones, abhors the reminders of the graves he used to help dig every time another person in the neighborhood died of pneumonia, loathes remembering how the rattle in Steve’s lungs made him worry that his would be the next. But you, unlike Steve and possibly Sam and Nat, don’t know that. The new cook hired when a spike in missions made it increasingly more difficult for the Avengers to prepare their own meals, you have been here for all of three weeks when you appear in the living room requesting assistance with grocery shopping.
Sam and Nat got back from a mission just yesterday and are still nursing their wounds splayed across multiple bean bags, Tony has Steve tied to the sofa by the latter’s promise to watch Star Wars, and while Wanda and Vision are available, Bucky stands at attention when you enter before you have even completed your sentence. Steve snickers, and Bucky would cuff him if he wasn’t two couches over and preoccupied with stifling a rising blush. As it is, he sends a discreet glare his best friend’s way, and volunteers to brave New York’s snow-clad streets with you instead, only because he’s a gentleman and definitely not to see the resounding smile in thanks that sends his heart racing.
“Let me go grab a jacket first,” he says, passing by you where you stand wearing a hand-knitted scarf under your jacket and a worn hat on your head, none of it able to suppress the scent of gingerbread on your person.
“I’ll wait by the car,” you call from behind him, and he grins to himself when he hears Tony say not the Audi! as the elevator doors close.
Five minutes later, you’re both in the garage, trying to determine which car to take if Tony’s precious Audi is unavailable, and since you’re going to be driving, he sees no reason to suggest otherwise when you head for the Tesla. Although Bucky is slowly catching up with the times, between frequent trips to the local library, the ever-so-helpful internet under F.R.I.D.A.Y.’s guidance, and the miracle of history documentaries, driving a car is one thing he still has not learnt.
However, you were born and raised in Arlington, Texas, a city with a negligible public transport system, and therefore know how to drive. How you’ll fare on frosty streets remains to be seen. Now, he realizes neither of you really thought this trip through much beyond the date and time of the event, but you’re an experienced driver, and he has faith that you’ll adapt just fine. Besides, it’s not like it’s your first time out.
The silence in the car is calm, warm, the gentle hum of the radiator only audible to Bucky beneath the still quieter murmur of the electric engine, and you nod your head to an invisible tune as the car speeds down country roads, towards the cluster of skyscrapers in the distance, made cloudy by winter haze.
He’s so focused on the city ahead that he nearly jumps out of his skin when you speak for the first time since you got in the car. “Is there anywhere you’d like to go besides the supermarket?” You ask, and he sees that you think you’ve bothered him, that you’ve dragged him out against his will, and he doesn’t want to let you believe that.
“I’m happy to go wherever you like,” is his answer, with a smile that he hopes is more placating than nervous, because who knows what it’s like to be the newest part of a well-oiled machine that you think doesn’t need you. While you aren’t with them in the field, you live with them and have, in this short time, endeared yourself to each Avenger in a unique way. Recalling watching Peter do his homework a couple of months back, he thinks of nuclei and electrons, and how you seem to be an example of the first particle. Not only because he is attracted to you, but also because of how you pull people into your circle. Bucky hopes he can be granted the same joy.
“Okay,” you say softly, as if only to yourself, but he catches it and nods reassuringly. “You know, when Sam came with me last week, he actually said that you’re a lot more fun while grocery shopping.”
Bucky’s eyes widen. “I’m more fun to be with while shopping than at home, or I’m more fun to go shopping with than Sam?” He asks, turning in his seat.
“The second one.”
“Did he say why?”
A thoughtful hum, and you bite the inside of your cheek while formulating an appropriate answer. “Something about your old-fashioned sensibilities being offended by the prices nowadays--”
“I am not old-fashioned--”
“-- and he warned me to keep you away from the snack aisle because you, and I quote, lose it at the sight of all those Doritos flavors,” you finish with a teasing smile, directed at the road. With no response to that, he resigns himself to sink back into his seat while crossing his arms and grumbling his displeasure, only to perk up with the sound of your laugh, just as you swing into the parking lot of Trader Joe’s.
One successful grocery round later, and Bucky’s closing the lid on a trunk full of grocery bags, one of which consists only of Doritos. He’s going to open the door for you when you stop him and gesture to the cafe across the street with a sheepish look on your face.
“Hot chocolate?” ¨
“Sure,” he answers, and you lock the door. The place is almost empty, what with it being a couple of hours before lunch on a workday, and you order to hot chocolates to go, explaining that you’re just a few minutes away from Central Park and you wanted to go for a brief walk, if that was okay with him, of course.
The hot chocolates arrive, both with every imaginable topping on them, and Bucky hurries to pull out his wallet despite your protests. “Let’s go,” he says, handing you your cup and praying that he can balance his without spilling over, and holding the door for you as you exit.
New York’s boisterous bustle is dulled by the quiet of winter, the pulsing life of the city hushed as snow starts falling, this November precipitation hopefully a good omen for a white Christmas. This part of town seems to fall silent, and he relishes the peace, the rustle of your jackets as shoulders brush when a rare stranger passes by.
Soon, the city falls away to the expanse of what used to be green but is now just a domesticated snowy tundra -- Central Park. A lone runner sprints across a pathway a hundred yards away, and you sit down on a bench.
“I love New York,” you say with a smile, and Bucky can see the enchantment of this city falling over you as you close your eyes. Less than a month, most of it spent outside the city lines, and you’re falling for the place he knows as home, and it makes him fall in love with it all over again. To see a familiar place through fresh and wondrous eyes is like getting to read a favorite book for the first time -- a privelege few are afforded, but he is fortunate to be amongst them. The way your eyes flit across the sky following a flock of pigeons, the way you inhale the scent of hot chocolate like no place else in the world can produce, and then how your gaze falls to the untouched, sacred blanket of snow in front of you. The ensuing gasp is one he cannot decipher, and so he asks.
“What is it?”
“I just realized I’ve never made snow angels,” you answer, trembling with childish epiphany, and he looks at you like you’ve grown another head. It’s been almost a century since he made his last one, too, at the age of 12, before he had to resist in order to avoid bringing Steve down with him lest the skinny rascal die from the cold.
“Do you,” he begins hesitantly, “do you want to, right now?” The expression on your face is one of barely controlled want and bashfulness at the desire.
“Yeah,” you say after a full minute’s consideration. That’s how Bucky finds himself, despite his issues with the cold, on the ground in a field of snow like a starfish against the ground and waving his arms and legs wildly. Your giggles float to him on a cloud of air, breathless, shaking, and he stops after a while to lay there next to you, the silver bond of a new friendship glowing in the gray daylight.
He’s the first to rise, carefully so as to not disturb the pattern, and he pulls you up after, watches the smile split your face into the fullest crescent moon, warming his insides more than the hot chocolate did. The cold is starting to soak through his clothes, but the pins and needles prickling at his skin soon start to sear with that white heat that comes after touching snow, and he’s warm all over. When you turn to look at him with a thank you on the tip of your tongue, his cheeks pink and eyes icy blue, he smiles back. Thinks he could learn to love the cold, if it comes with companionship like this.

thoughts on pb+j? ive only had it twice one time in the usa with grape jam and now with apricot jam on raisin toast.
This is the most important ask I’ve ever received as GREAT PB&J is an art form.
1. Good bread is a must. I like good hearty wheat bread or maybe a sourdough on occasion. Americas who use wonder-bread, I’m ashamed to call you my fellow countrymen.
2. TOAST THE BREAD. Again, this is key to great PB&J.
3. Peanut Butter. You have to decide your level of sweetness. Like Jif is good if you like extra sweet but not otherwise. But I find completely natural PB to be too dry. You also need to decide on smooth or with nuts. I tend to go smooth PB because I like jams that are seedy. The perfect PB that is widely available is Smucker's Natural Creamy Peanut Butter (or the “Chunky” version if you prefer).
4. Jam. First of all.....put the jelly away, America. Gross. You need a good jam. Trader Joe’s Raspberry Organic Jam is what I usually get because that is where I shop. But outside of locally made jam (which you should absolutely go for first), the best jam for great PB&J in the US is  Bonne Maman. I love Raspberry and Blackberry but the Cherry is *chef’s kiss* as well.
5. It somehow tastes even better if you cut the bread diagonally.
Thank you for coming to my PB&J Ted Talk and for this ask.
Ask me anything or let me yell at your SC hot takes
