Your phone vibrates once and then twice a minute later while you are washing your face. The first assumption is that your best friend is trying to convince you to go clubbing with her at the last minute because the baseball team was seen out. You’ll never understand her obsession with them. Just like she’ll never understand your obsession with Indy.

You’re just lucky that your types are polar opposite. Because everyone else seems to have eyes for him. Everyone. And of course, you understand. How could you not crush hard over him? He just has this... way about him that drives you crazy. You’re not even sure he does it intentionally.

After you dry your face and moisturize, you lean over and tap your phone screen. You nearly shriek when you see his name. And the message that reads: come over?

You curse yourself for taking off your pretty clothes and your makeup. Not that Indy ever minded you without makeup. But if you showed up like you look now, you worry he might not get the hint that you like him.

He’s never invited you to hang out this late before. Sometimes you’ll hang out late because your hangouts run overtime. But when you’re with him, you never want to leave. All you can do is hope that he might feel the same way too. The hours you’ve spent analyzing your friendship with Indy is humiliating. You pay attention to his Insta posts and Snap stories, noting where he is and who he’s with. At every frat party hosted by his fraternity, girls practically throw themselves at his feet, and you get jealous every time he flirts back. But to your knowledge it rarely progresses further than that. He has a few exes from his years at the school, but they’ve always spoken highly of him.

You suspect that they’re the ones who have spread rumors about what he can do under the sheets. It’s something that he keeps very private. You suppose a guy like him doesn’t need to brag about his conquests. Girls just know. And you’re drawn to the confidence he gives off.

But what started as you trying to hook up with him ended in you inevitably wanting something more. You’d love to be his girlfriend. And everyone says that he likes you a lot, everyone but him. He’s not so direct about his feelings with you.

There was one time at the movies he leaned in to whisper something in your ear, and you swore he was going to kiss you. To this day you have no clue what he told you. You were too anxious to pay attention to his words. The sensation of his breath against your skin was too much for you to handle.

The truth is... you might not be able to take it if he actually wants you. You wouldn’t know what to do with yourself. Having what you have wanted all along seems like something that only happens in the movies.

As you frantically reapply your makeup, he texts you again: why aren’t u in my bed rn

While that might seem like he’s texting you for sex, Indy has a special kind of humor that you understand. He’s really just saying that he misses you.

You type out a quick response: Promise im about to leave.

He just hearts the message.

You pick out your outfit, electing for a lulu tennis skirt and a cropped hoodie. The worst thing to do in this situation would be to overdress.

When you pull up to his frat house, you realize that you should have walked from your dorm. There’s a party going on, and parking is shit. You have to park from across the street in a big lot, empty this time of the day. His frat house is at the end of the row. It’s a long and annoying walk, but it’s worth it to spend time with him although you really weren’t in the mood for a party. You have an 8am class tomorrow (Friday).

Passing by, you spot his black Camaro in his parking space up front. You know it’s his from the dark-green stripe on the side. He teases you that he owns that color. He calls it Indy green.

The guys running security for the event immediately let you in when you come up to the door. You figure they must know who you are because you’re always here during the day. Actually, you were here this morning studying with Indy. He has a test tomorrow. Maybe he invited you over for a quick cram session. You should have brought your backpack.

People are crammed elbows to elbows in the little two-story. Outside too. Half of the campus must be here. You finally find a familiar face, one of the younger pledges, and you ask him where Indy is. He points upstairs. Maybe Indy wasn’t in the mood for a party. You’ll ask him later.

He lives in the first room after the staircase. He likes it because he only has one neighbor.

You knock first. A couple seconds later, he answers. Evanescence plays in the background softly. You think... it’s a song from Fallen, but you can’t be sure. Knowing him it probably is.

“Hi,” he says, leaning against the door frame. He makes it look small. 

He waves you in. You notice his shiny black nails. He must have just painted them. You grab his hand as you enter and bring his fingers close to your eyes. He has model hands. His hands are decorated with thick and thin steel rings, silver and black. He curls his long fingers around yours.

“What’re you lookin’ at,” he laughs, an impish smirk spanning his lips. 

“They’re pretty, Indy.” You want to shove them in your mouth.

He pulls you along to his bed, and you sit beside him. Running a hand through his dark hair, he looks down at you and stares. His eyes sparkle. Something is different in the way he’s looking at you. You hope he feels it too.

“Did you want to study?” you ask, testing the waters. It’s the path of least resistance to find out why he asked you over.

He snorts and flicks the side of your arm. “Tonight? On a Thursday?”

You nod. “Yeah? You have a test tomorrow.”

“We studied. I’ve got it. I’m not worried.” He narrows his eyes. “Is that why you thought I wanted you to come over?”

“Maybe.”

He looks away and clasps his hands on his lap or picks at the tears in his faded jeans. “You’re wrong.”

“Why did you—”

Indy cuts you off. “Cause I wanted to spend time with you. Got tired of that fucking party ‘cause it’s shit without you. The guys told me not to bring a date this time.” Indy lies down on his bed, situating himself with his head on the pillow. He turns his body to face you.

In the midnight sheets, his skin is ghostlike. Sometimes you wonder if he’s just a figment of your imagination. He’s too pretty to be real.

You lie down beside him. This isn’t uncommon. He likes to cuddle sometimes when he’s in the mood. The metal beads on his leather bracelet are cold on your stomach. He holds you close to his chest for a minute or two before turning on his back to reach for the tv remote.

“Wanna watch something?” he asks, switching the tv on.

You shrug. “I don’t care. Only if you do.”

“If... you don’t care,” he whispers.

You don’t need to look up to know what he’s watching. Almost every time you guys hang out like this, he watches Batman Beyond. Hasn’t he seen it at least four times at this point? Nevertheless, you enjoy watching it with him. It’s really the only time you’ve witnessed him completely geek out over something. He’ll pause the show to answer any question you have. The way he comes alive when he talks to you about the things he adores is so precious to you. Even though you’re very, very familiar with the characters now, you still act like you aren’t, just so you can ask him about them. You like the way he explains things. He’s so confident, and it’s seductive, and you don’t want to wait anymore. You can’t. You need to kiss him. Maybe you should ask for permission, but you know he’d tease you for it. So, you decide to go for it while he’s lying there beside you.

Pushing up on the bed, you hover over him for a moment. Instantly, he notices and gazes into your eyes. Indy’s face is blank, void of all emotion and judgment. You can’t know what he’s thinking. He doesn’t let you. But you can’t back down. You’ve already committed to showing him what you want.

Indy’s lips are softer than you expected. Your mouth fits to his like puzzle pieces. You tangle your fingers in his hair. And he lets you kiss him for what feels like hours. You know that it’s only a moment truly. But you wish it could go on all night long.

Satisfied, you sit up, and he follows. He speaks first before you could even get a word in to explain yourself.

“If you wanted to kiss me, you could have just said it.”

Flustered, you look away. “I’m sorry. I’m so dumb, Indy. I know you don’t want me like that.”

“Who says?”

You only shrug. No one’s ever said that, but he’s never made it clear that he wants more than friendship

Indy leans close. He holds up his hand. “Can I grab you here?” Gently, he wraps his fingers around your neck like he wants to choke you.

You swallow and feel the motion of your throat collide with his skin. “Yes,” you whisper.

His grip tightens, not by much. As he falls on you, Indy pushes you down onto the bed, holding you by the neck. His sinful mouth devours yours as his weight crushes you into the pillows and bed sheets. The kiss turns wet when his tongue slips inside, and he explores you. Before Indy, you had always thought girls were just were exaggerating when they said he had his tongue down my throat

His bangs tickle your forehead and the side of your face. His hair almost reaches his shoulders now, but you like it long. It’s easier to tug on and play with, especially in moments like these. Between your fingers, his hair is taut silk darker than demons’ eyes. He moans into you when you tug, and he seems to like it hard.

When he’s finished, Indy leaves your mouth sensitive and wet with an exchange of fluids. You lick them, savoring the leftovers, and all you can think about is more. More from him. More of him.

His silver chains dangle around his neck and catch the dimmed bedroom light. Through the loose neckline of his shirt, you see milky skin, and you start to lift his shirt to touch him.

“Baby, you wanna go all the way, huh?” He lets go of your throat to take off his shirt. The dark fabric slides up his lithe body. His hair is tousled from the action. “Didn’t know you were that hot for me. Dammit, why did you wait so long to do something about it?”

“Why did you?” you look up at him with your eyes big and wide, lips pouting. It’s true. You had wanted him to move in on you first. But time had made you impatient.

“Didn’t wanna ruin us...” he murmurs, wrapping his arms around your waist, nestling his face in the sweet curve of your neck. “What we have is so good.”

“I think it’s worth the risk,” you whisper.

He sighs lowly, very contently. “That’s just what I thought too.” He kisses your shoulder. And he starts grinding his hips into you, needing the friction, his budding erection digging into you already. “Want it now, baby?”

Hi! In Your Eyes? 👀 (I have been down the Ava x Bucky rabbit hole before)

Hi! Thanks so much for asking me about this one. This is a rarepair that really captures my interest. I wrote a one shot for them not too long ago and have been wanting to write more. (I have a bit of an Ava Starr-agenda. She's made a few cameos in recent stories, too. I find her very fascinating!)

This one is a movie au based on an indie flick by the same name. It has a twin flames concept, with Bucky and Ava being strangers who can sense what the other one is feeling. Somewhat aware of this from an early age and not really understanding it, they've managed to shut the bond down and shut the other out.

But as they get older, both find themselves desperately lonely and at a crossroads needing a connection. Ava is trapped in a loveless marriage to a controlling man; Bucky can't seem to escape his troubled past. Feeling vulnerable, frustrated, and lost, their mental connection sparks back to life and they begin communicating with one another through their shared bond.

Here is a snippet (language warning):

After that visit, he’d gone back to his cell, huddled down on the hard lumpy cot that was his home for the foreseeable future and he’d sobbed. Deep, silent, shaking shudders. Surrounded by the moans and howls and cursing of his fellow inmates, the smell of piss, sweat and broken dreams hovering heavy in the air as he mourned every way he’d gone wrong. Every mistake he could never fix because every path set before him had always led exactly here.

If he didn’t die in this hell hole, it would be another. Alone and miserable, getting what Fate determined from the start he had coming. His hands clenched into fists, and he wished he could hit something…probably himself. He deserved it after the disappointment he’d seen in Steve’s eyes.

I’m sorry, his soul screamed, but who was he apologizing to? Steve? Becca? His Ma for turning out too much like his ol’ man? Or maybe…maybe there was someone else. Some distant aching memory he’d pushed and hidden away, never completely relinquishing though he’d refused to give it a name for fear it made him a madman. Carefully, in the depths of his misery and recrimination, he unfurled one hand, letting it rest listlessly by his side as he waited. He could do it. Just once, though it’d been years. He just had to concentrate, open his mind, pull the cord on his tightly shuttered heart and let the phantom light in. Gulping down breath, spit, and guilt, he opened his eyes and peeked into the void. There was nothing there. Just the peeling, cold unforgiving gray of the ceiling. No other pictures for his mind to cling and sift through, probably because he’d forgotten how to dream so long ago. But there was something…just beyond him. Out of reach. An itch. A tingle. A certainty that he wasn’t as alone as he insisted. I did it for you. His mind screamed, his fingertips twitching in desperate beckoning. Just once. One more time. One last time. And I’ll shut you out. I’ll never ask again. He swallowed hard, tears leaking from his eyes. He was 18 years old, and he’d already fucked up every chance at a decent life. Please. Then by some miracle he’d never understand—surely the imaginings of a fucked-up brain—he felt it. The flutter of fingertips, grazing the length of his own. Warm, safe, and capable as they traveled up the length of his fingertips, before flattening so they were hand to hand. His real palm and an invisible shadow palm that existed only in his mind but felt more fucking real than anything else he’d experienced. He felt the sliding sensation as fingers sank into the crevices of his and squeezed. Held on.

Bucky closed his eyes once more, the silent sobs abating as he sank into the serenity of the moment. A simple touch. Surely all in his head. But it didn’t let go. And neither did Bucky.

This month I finished more books than ever before; granted, several were started earlier, so page-wise the difference is smaller, but still there. I think this is mostly because I didn't spend a lot of time gaming.

I finished several 5 star reads this month. My absolute favourite was, no surprise, @re-dracula (yes I'm counting it as a book. in the end I did read Dracula after all).

• Re: Dracula by BloodyFM, Bram Stoker (audio, podcast)

This chronological audio adaptation of Dracula is the best Dracula adaptation out there with an incredible cast, fantastic sound design and awesome bonus songs. I cannot recommend it enough. Together with the Dracula Daily tumblr community it re-enlightened my special interest in vampires and Dracula to the point that I'm still thinking about it every day.

Dark fairy tale meets gothic horror in this retelling of The Juniper Tree. Absolutely loved it!

I had read and loved Chameleon Moon once before, but the audio version made me love it even more! It's intense, emotional, and has amazing effects for ghostly and computerised voices as well as two original songs.

A big book full of photos from Palestinian and Israeli activist photography collective Activestills, accompanied by essays and interviews. I greatly admire Activestills' work.

Interviews with people of varying occupations from all around Palestine, combined with data and historical and political context, paint a picture of every day life in Jerusalem, Gaza and the West Bank.

A great introduction to Palestinian writing, containing poetry, short fiction and excerpts from novels and essays.

• The Queer Girl Is Going to Be Okay by Dale Walls (audio, ARC)

A great YA contemporary following three queer high school friends, examining the nature of queer love.

• The Chalice of the Gods by Rick Riordan (physical)

A fun book in the Percy Jackson saga, with lower stakes than usual which makes it a lighthearted adventure that still packs the occasional punch.

• Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan (physical)

Highly enjoyable modern take on Jules Verne feat. deep sea adventures, alt-tech, and an exploration of the weight of legacy.

• Spy x Family Vol. 1-6 by Tatsuya Endo (physical, borrowed)

Action comedy that's just a lot of fun and unexpectedly touching.

Currently reading and TBR

I've just started, or am about to start (I've only read the introduction) Freedom Is a Constant Struggle by Angela Davis. I'm also reading the poetry collection Things You May Find Hidden in My Ear by Mosab Abu Toha, which is currently available for free among many other books for Read Palestine Week (link below).

I have a few more indie books on my TBR for Monster Manor Indie Autumn (extended through December), and A Thousand Steps into Night is my last 12 books for 12 friends read this year. (Send me a message/ask or fill in the question box on my instagram story if you have a rec for next year!)

Indie music hub Bandcamp has laid off half of its employees, less than a month after the announcement that music licensing company Songtradr had purchased the platform from video game publisher Epic Games.

Founded in 2008, Bandcamp is beloved by musicians for its artist-friendly revenue sharing and active fan community. In March 2020, the company launched Bandcamp Friday, which gives artists 100% of profits for sales occurring on the first Friday of every month. Bandcamp Daily, the company’s music blog, spotlighted curated new releases and offered features on emerging, independent artists. A number of the site’s writers and editors shared news of their dismissal on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“I had 3 years of having my dream job helping artists make records and making vinyl more accessible,” said Ava Mirzadegan, a former Bandcamp vinyl representative, in a post. “I’m proud of myself for getting here even if all ended like this.”

“Unsurprisingly there has been no humanity extended in this process. Our union will prosper though,” wrote Atoosa Moinzadeh.

Bandcamp had operated as an independent company until Epic Games acquired it in 2022. On Sept. 28, Epic Games laid off about 830 employees, or 16% of its staff, and announced it had sold Bandcamp to Songtradr. In an internal email announcing the sale, Epic Games said Songtradr would offer positions to some, but not all, Bandcamp employees.

Jordan Opre, 27, a Bandcamp support specialist based in Seal Beach, said when he and other workers received the internal announcement of the sale, they were caught off guard.

“I think overall the collective reaction has been surprised,” Opre said in an interview a few days after the sale was announced. “There’s just a lot of uncertainty. There hasn’t been clear or definite communication in terms of who’s getting laid off.”

The Bandcamp staff reductions were part of the September layoffs initiated by Epic Games. A representative for Songtradr told The Times that 60 of Bandcamp’s 118 employees were offered the opportunity to retain their position, and that 58 workers had accepted.

Additionally, the representative told The Times 50% of the core editorial staff would remain on board.

“Over the past few years the operating costs of Bandcamp have significantly increased,” said the Songtradr representative. “It required some adjustments to ensure a sustainable and healthy company that can serve its community of artists and fans.”

Bandcamp United, a union represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union, formed soon after the sale to Epic Games, as the acquisition sparked internal worries around Bandcamp’s future.

The union was recognized in May 2023 and had begun negotiating its first collective bargaining agreement with Epic in August.

“[Bargaining with Epic Games] was actually going all right, compared to some other places we’ve been bargaining with,” said Sandy Pope, OPEIU bargaining director. “It makes you wonder if they knew something was coming and decided it wasn’t worth putting up a big fight. You can’t sell a company overnight.”

Songtradr has not officially recognized the Bandcamp United union, which had been demanding Songtradr extend an offer to all employees and provide severance packages to those who declined to stay on board. Because the transaction was an asset sale, Songtradr had no legal requirement to retain employees or recognize the union.

After initial messaging from Songtradr stressed that it would remain “business as usual” in the wake of the sale, however, Pope expressed a feeling of betrayal.

“We got the email from [Songtradr CEO] Paul Wiltshire, saying they intended to keep everything the same, but then you get rid of the people who do the creative and who started it?” she said. “People loved working for Bandcamp. They were gutted by the news today.”

Break My Heart - Jennifer Sucevic ⭐️⭐️ 🏒 When they were never really enemies in an enemies to lovers? 🙄 When she stops "hating" him 25% into the book? 😖 When there's a 3rd act break up and the groveling is fucking pathetic? 🤬

I love hockey romances but my god, some of these are just boring. Give me some actual build up, some chemistry, some legitimate banter. Break My Heart was so a middling read. I found myself yawning through most of it, and spending almost an entire day trying to finish it because random YouTube videos about bullet journals (which I have no desire to actually set up and use) were more interesting. The relationship between Ava and Hayes was so uninteresting and half the time if I wasn't dozing off, I was rolling my eyes.

I'm finding that maybe my main issues are that (for me) Jennifer Sucevic just seems to be a hit or miss author. Some of her books have been great but of the 2 I've read from this series, I'm just not impressed.

Protect - Paisley Hope ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🚒 This is another one of those books that has just a fantastic story and great characters but simply fells a pinch too long. Rowan and Violette were just immaculate together. They had the chemistry and the vibes but it felt like they resolved their issues and got together too early. Even the struggles with Rowan’s job and Violette’s ex felt far too delayed.

I say all this but I also add, that I’m not sure what could have been cut out to make it a 5 star. It was fantastic. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series by different authors but also continuing to read other books from Paisley Hope.

Tears of Salvation - Michelle Heard ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🔫 I'm not 100% sure how I actually feel about this one. To be completely honest, I really did enjoy it but the insta-love and placidity of Alexei just didn't scream mafia romance to me. Isabella was the best part. She kicked ass throughout the book, even with Alexei's messed up machinations.

And honestly, I think that was the part that I got hung up on. I could understand (I guess) Alexei's insta-love and his softness around Isabella but what he did didn't align with how his character was supposed to be portrayed. It was irritating. Especially after it all came crashing down, all of a sudden, he was concerned about how it would all be perceived.

I really don't want to spoil anything. And I did rate this 4 stars. I enjoyed it. Mostly because Isabella was the best.

Spring's Descent - C. L. Briar ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌼 For a Hades x Persephone retelling by an indie author, this was pretty good. I don't know if I would call this romance or if Spring's Descent is trailing more into the erotica area. There was a plot for sure and it was fairly well fleshed out with a decent enough plot twist. But the romance itself felt lacking. I think if there was more time spent of building the emotional intimacy rather than the physical aspects, I would have given this 5 stars. Instead it felt like insta-love/insta-lust combo that worked but it was great.

I'll be checking out the other books from C. L. Briar. I really did enjoy this one.

Book Lovers - Emily Henry (Audiobook) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📚 I don't think I can read this book enough. Book Lovers was my first novel from Emily Henry and when I first went into it, I wasn't expecting much. It just didn't seem like my kind of book. Now I'm wrapping up my 3rd read in less than a year, and I'm standing firm on my thought that Charlie Lastra is the book boyfriend to end all book boyfriends.

This was just such an amazing book. It gave me that small town romance for the city girl. The big love for the throw-away relationship girl. I loved Nora. She was so amazingly perfect. And Charlie was just so perfect for her. They were the two peas in a pod that were determined not to change each other to make themselves fit. It just worked so well. They had the best chemistry and their friendship was just so realistic.

I think that's what I liked so much about this book. The realism of the story. It's not the typical Hallmark ending because it really isn't realistic to drop everything in your life to move to a small town and marry the Christmas tree farmer. This will forever be one of my top books and I will recommend this to everyone until my very last breath.

Rule Breakers Fall Hardest - Micaela Smeltzer ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🧑‍🍼 Daire was so insufferable. He gets his married professor pregnant and then proceeds to fight for custody of a child that was wanted by BOTH the mother and her husband. He’s a college student. It was just so unbelievable and his speech and treatment of Rosie was honestly, hateful. And then you find out the reason he’s been holding this grudge over her for years and there is no redemption for him.

Rosie was fine. She clearly didn’t have a spine or any self-respect since she married Daire with little argument and NOTHING in it for her. Daire was just garbage. Also, the way Rosie’s family treats her is also fucked.

The writing is decent. It’s honestly just the content of the book that dragged the rating down.

Lament of the Wolf - C. A. Farran ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🐺 What an amazing sequel to Songs of the Wicked! This was just such a wonderful ride. There three main POVs, Lark, Daciana, and Langford, and oh lord, do things happen to our intrepid adventurers.

There is very little that can be said about Lament of the Wolf that isn’t a spoiler to the first book but it’s safe to say that if you enjoyed SotW, you will love this.

The Female - Invi Wright ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 😈 The premise to this book was such a great idea. The execution was what let it down. And honestly, it wasn’t the writing. The writing itself was decently done and the pacing and world-building were okay. What took this book down to three stars was the characters. Namely Aziel and Charlie. Both for similar reasons.

They were both so fucking moody and bitchy. Charlie had no thought about her father being murdered and her mother going back into the system to be resold. This is not a spoiler. The parents that were her entire world were ripped from her in the first 5% of the book and she didn’t really think about them at all. THEN she is sold, as property, to 3 demons. Most women are brutalized and bred constantly in this world, and Charlie is told that she won’t even be touched with =out her consent and she still throws fucking fits. Let’s not forget the insta-lust she has for Silas and Gray though. *insert exhausted eyeroll*

Aziel, on the other hand, wants nothing to do with Charlie, despite being like obsessed with her. But then he also lays hands on her and bruises her. He brings another female demon into the house to make Charlie jealous among other things. It’s just fucking gross. 

Gray was the typical golden retriever in the reverse harem group and Silas was the quiet, broody one with kinks. The characters were only unique in their insufferable personalities.

Sinners Keepers - Genna Black ⭐️ 🔪 I cannot get those hours back from reading this. Nothing about this was a ‘rom-com’ despite what these people were saying. The dialogue was so cringe that I caught myself physically recoiling at some of the terrible banter. The plot-line and time-line were so terribly convoluted that nothing made sense, and I cared about no one.

I must have read a different book from these people who rated it 4 and 5 stars because wtaf?

Veiled Vows - Valeria Fox ⭐️⭐️ 👰‍♀️ This entire novella reads like a poorly-edited stream of consciousness, and it’s clear that it was not intentional. With that being said, I could get past it. I was dealing with it, simply for the fact that Serena wasn’t backing down. She was holding her own to Salvatore. I say that, but I also think that Serena blew a lot of it out of proportion. Salvatore could have handled her finding out about the arrangement better but it wasn’t like he was actually cold or cruel to her prior to her finding out. He was kind, didn’t cheat, and made no demands on her.

Regardless, I was into it. And then we hit about 65%. There then does involve some cheating. There’s also this line: ‘I demand that every being in this universe respects my wife, or else there will be consequences.’ My soul left my body at that point. I mean that in the most derogatory way possible. Not even my entire being wanted to remain involved. Anyway, it was less than 120 pages. I finished it. I will try to hold back from bleaching my eyes to remove the memory of it.

Two Can Play - Ali Hazelwood ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎮 I don't know what it is about Ali Hazelwood books, but she might be the only author that can give me the same book in a different flavor and I'll eat it up every time. Not a single crumb left.

Same characters, same plot basics, and yet, here I am, telling you that Two Can Play is a masterpiece. I am a simple girl who just loves a giant celibate mmc who pines after the tiny, genius fmc and they haven't been together because of the dumbest misunderstanding. 

Also, I have no idea what it is about Kelsey Navarro Foster's voice but she sounds so sick of it in this book and I love that shit too. Her voice for Jesse, by the way, was good enough that it did not take me out of the story in any way. 

I'll take eight more of these.

You are lying on the bed together in the early afternoon, both of you choosing to spend the day relaxing instead of worrying about the things around the house that probably need your attention. These are your favorite kind of days. Indy’s on his side of the bed looking at his phone. And you are curled up beside him with your nose in a book.

He’s been quiet all morning. So, hearing his voice startles you.

“Hey,” he nudges you softly with his elbow.

You look up to meet his bright blue eyes heavily outlined in charcoal. “Hi,” you whisper back, closing your book.

He rubs your back with his hand. “Can you make me some tea?”

Even though you’ve known him for a long time, you can’t stop your heart from racing when he looks into your eyes. “Of course.”

After giving his arm a quick kiss, you rise out of bed and make your way to the kitchen. You love doing things for Indy whenever he acts. It makes you feel useful, and it’s a way you show that you care.

You start with filling the kettle with water and boiling it on the stove. While it’s heating, you look in the pantry for his favorite tea. He especially likes green tea.

Once the water is boiling, you pour it into his Batman mug and steep the tea bag for exactly five minutes. You grab the honey from the counter and squeeze about a teaspoon or two into the cup. It makes it thicker and sweeter.

A few minutes later you deliver the tea to him on a potholder and set it down on his nightstand.

He smiles thinly when he sees you and opens his arms to you. “C’mere, baby.”

Eagerly, you crawl back into bed with him. He spoons you, wrapping his arms tightly about your waist and settling his chin over your shoulder. Knowing him, he might hold you here for hours, but that worries you because of the tea. He likes it piping hot.

“Your tea’s getting cold, Indy.”

He mumbles into your skin. “One more minute. Not ready to let go.”
