learning to draw child soldiers
and beating same face syndrome
with the help of Maya Sanchez and Frank Olivetti
honorary guest, Ava Patel (I don’t draw the three of them often) (they’re all a bit messy just a heads up)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly don’t like the final product of Maya. If it looks a bit goofy it’s because I decided to draw it at the top of the page so it’s cut off.
Personally, I like the sketch better

Mech Cadets headcanon: The robos respond to their pilots emotions when they’re linked so when their pilot has a crush on another pilot, their robos start acting VERY strangely.
Frank: commits general badassery in Thunderwrecker
Stanford: desperately trying to remain cool on the outside, squealing on the inside
Buddy, practically swooning: radiates heart eyes and dreamy beeping at Thunderwrecker’s every move
Olivia, in HF1: mop boy, what the FUCK??
(And then there’s Ava who’s filming for blackmail and general ribbing purposes)

The way 'feminist retellings' have become another name for multi-dimensional female characters being white-washed and reduced to misunderstood/wronged/abused woman who does conventionally evil things to protect herself/for the greater good will always make me want to hurl myself off of a cliff.
Often times, these retellings bear no respect for their original text, and simply write to be quoted on tumblr mood boards and praised by booktokers as 'subversive' and 'a new take on feminism.'
I need authors to stop writing feminist retellings until they understand that women can be
1. Evil
2. Ambitious
3. Cruel/unkind/selfish
And gender based violence against these women is not acceptable simply because of their actions. They do not need to be victims of earlier abuse, or extremely kind, or the chosen ones for violence perpetuated against them on the virtue of their gender to be condemned.

I keep seeing this trend go around and I need to put my two cents in. so
I didn’t add any of the super popular ones (anyone from tma(gp), w359, etc) because I wanna give my underrated girlies a fighting chance and if I put Isabel Lovelace in this poll she will be sweeping immediately

LATE NIGHT (2019): Straight(er) prototype of HACKS, a tolerable but generally mid comedy-drama about the dysfunctional relationship between bitchy elder comedienne and late night talk show host Katherine Newbury (Emma Thompson, distractingly hot with fabulous hair) and neophyte comedy writer Molly Patel (Mindy Kaling, who also scripted), who ultimately makes Katherine better despite being perpetually abused. The character dynamics, structure, and dramatic beats are so much like HACKS (which debuted two years later) that it's hard to see it as a coincidence, although Katherine begins the story in the position for which Deborah Vance spends much of HACKS maneuvering, and is still married (to John Lithgow) with no kids. As a feature, LATE NIGHT is more focused than HACKS and has fewer of the show's objectionable subplots, but it also feels far more pat; whether that's a worthwhile tradeoff is a matter of taste. Ultimately, the biggest difference is that LATE NIGHT is cagier about acknowledging the homoerotic nature of Molly's obsession with winning Katherine's approval, although the tension between them is substantially the same as Ava and Deborah. CONTAINS LESBIANS? There is no acknowledged wlw content at all, but … VERDICT: One of Thompson's better recent roles, neither the best nor the worst Mindy Kaling product.

Fairy Tales & Legends Retold
A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow
It's Zinnia Gray's twenty-first birthday, which is extra-special because it's the last birthday she'll ever have. When she was young, an industrial accident left Zinnia with a rare condition. Not much is known about her illness, just that no one has lived past twenty-one.
Her best friend Charm is intent on making Zinnia's last birthday special with a full sleeping beauty experience, complete with a tower and a spinning wheel. But when Zinnia pricks her finger, something strange and unexpected happens, and she finds herself falling through worlds, with another sleeping beauty, just as desperate to escape her fate.
This is the first volume of the "Fractured Fables" series.
Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
The Jazz Age is in full swing, but Casiopea Tun is too busy cleaning the floors of her wealthy grandfather’s house to listen to any fast tunes. Nevertheless, she dreams of a life far from her dusty small town in southern Mexico. A life she can call her own.
Yet this new life seems as distant as the stars, until the day she finds a curious wooden box in her grandfather’s room. She opens it—and accidentally frees the spirit of the Mayan god of death, who requests her help in recovering his throne from his treacherous brother. Failure will mean Casiopea’s demise, but success could make her dreams come true.
In the company of the strangely alluring god and armed with her wits, Casiopea begins an adventure that will take her on a cross-country odyssey from the jungles of Yucatán to the bright lights of Mexico City—and deep into the darkness of the Mayan underworld.
Juniper & Thorn by Ava Reid
A gruesome curse. A city in upheaval. A monster with unquenchable appetites.
Marlinchen and her two sisters live with their wizard father in a city shifting from magic to industry. As Oblya’s last true witches, she and her sisters are little more than a tourist trap as they treat their clients with archaic remedies and beguile them with nostalgic charm. Marlinchen spends her days divining secrets in exchange for rubles and trying to placate her tyrannical, xenophobic father, who keeps his daughters sequestered from the outside world. But at night, Marlinchen and her sisters sneak out to enjoy the city’s amenities and revel in its thrills, particularly the recently established ballet theater, where Marlinchen meets a dancer who quickly captures her heart.
As Marlinchen’s late-night trysts grow more fervent and frequent, so does the threat of her father’s rage and magic. And while Oblya flourishes with culture and bustles with enterprise, a monster lurks in its midst, borne of intolerance and resentment and suffused with old-world power. Caught between history and progress and blood and desire, Marlinchen must draw upon her own magic to keep her city safe and find her place within it.
Kaikeyi by Vaishnavi Patel
“I was born on the full moon under an auspicious constellation, the holiest of positions—much good it did me.”
So begins Kaikeyi’s story. The only daughter of the kingdom of Kekaya, she is raised on tales about the might and benevolence of the gods: how they churned the vast ocean to obtain the nectar of immortality, how they vanquish evil and ensure the land of Bharat prospers, and how they offer powerful boons to the worthy. Yet she watches as her father unceremoniously banishes her mother, listens as her own worth is reduced to the marriage alliance she can secure. And when she calls upon the gods for help, they never seem to hear.
Desperate for independence, she turns to the texts she once read with her mother and discovers a magic that is hers alone. With it, Kaikeyi transforms herself from an overlooked princess into a warrior, diplomat, and most favored queen.
But as the evil from her childhood stories threatens the cosmic order, the path she has forged clashes with the destiny the gods have chosen for her family. And Kaikeyi must decide if resistance is worth the destruction it will wreak—and what legacy she intends to leave behind.

Bear nonnie here! how are you? how has your health been? it's been a while (forgot my tumblr password lel)
here to report that I re-read porce and the shark, iconic really. I also saw the most recent season of Fargo, which was very good, Juno temple was stellar, I reccommend (rip it tho because the coen brother's are zionists), that also send me back into my strangers thing phase #throwback, (also rip it tho because of the nasty zionist cast). I remember why Joe Keery was a crush of mine, Steve Harrington and Gator Tillman are attractive in veryyyyyy different ways.
but Arian you remain #1 in my heart
what have media have you been liking recently?
Omg hello Bear Nonnie!!! How are you? I've missed you! So great to chat with you again haha!
My health hasn't been the greatest lately, I've been having a pretty miserable lupus flare up. I've had some of the rashes as well which don't make me feel super hot honestly. I hope you've been well?! So easy to happen!
Thank you!!! I'm so glad it's holding up haha, I need to finish some more pieces for that series. I have so many ideas and characters I want to write for atm, it's tough trying to balance it all with the rest of adulting.
Juno Temple has great comedic timing, I've only seen the Fargo film but I saw a clip of her accent and I was so surprised at how good it was. I didn't know that about the Coen brothers, that's so disappointing, I know Joel Coen signed the open letter supporting Jonathan Glazer's speech at the oscars. So hopefully that means he's re-evaluated, reflected on earlier comments and taken time to educate himself more on what's happening and has been been happening since the Nakba. Ethan Coen didn't sign that letter though. I'm not really a Coen brothers stan, I've only seen a couple of projects of theirs but it's still always disappointing to know that there's other human beings with awful, zionist beliefs. Especially when they're people with platforms most of us don't have. Joe Keery's character in Fargo does seem verrrryyy different for him!
Arian is our number one man! That's not a phone in his pocket, it's my heart!
I recently finished Fallout! I really enjoyed it! I love Ella Purnell and it was so cool to see Moisés Arias in a big project like this after watching Hannah Montana as a kid. I really enjoyed the story, all the social commentary, and the characters. I really want to write some fics for Lucy, Norm, and Maximus! ALSO MAX'S ACTOR IS GIVING YOUNG DENZEL WASHINGTON?!?!?!?! Somebody PLEASE beg me to write some fallout fics so I feel like I can procrastinate with that!
Other than that I've mainly been watching films! I watched Ava DuVernay's latest film 'Origin' last week. It had your fav Jon Bernthal in it! He played a very sweet wholesome guy! I enjoyed the film, I think there were a few holes in it/the thesis but it was an ambitious experiment. I really loved Monkey Man with Dev Patel! Seeing all the hype and love he's getting is making me very happy. I saw Skins way too young... I saw Past Lives and American Fiction for the first time recently and really enjoyed them as well. My friend and I are trying to see Challengers and Abigail at the cinemas but the times aren't lining up. I've been doing a bit of an Oscar Isaac marathon as well. I've been trying to get my book reading up and more 'international' cinema! What media have you been consuming since you sent this in? I'm so stoked for The Bear S3! I think we're getting it next month sometime?
Absolutely adore you Bear Nonnie! Hope you're having the best day! I always enjoy replying to your asks. Send another one in when you get a chance and I'm always happy to message about films! ❤️❤️❤️
(Someone please tell me to write Fallout fanfic now pls)

Hello, I saw your post about academic journal reading Ava, I agree and also that science and religion journal you mentioned sounds interesting and about consciousness and quantum physics. If you don't mind me asking, which journal is it? Or what can I google to find academic content on that? It's sounds very interesting and up my alley, thanks
The academic journal is called Zygon: Journal of Religion & Science. The specific volume is 41, No. 3. The article I referenced in the tags is “Quantum Reality and the Consciousness of the Universe” by Lothar Schäfer.
Now, that being said, this is a journal from September 2006. It was one of the (many) pieces of free literature I received from this last conference. I believe that they post monthly academic journals via a subscription. They seem very reputable, however, I encourage you to do research.
Regarding using the internet for academic journals, particularly on religion and science, I recommend using Google scholar. It’s relatively free, but be aware that there will be paywalls regarding some sites. Other resources are local libraries, university libraries, and librarians.
If you are particularly interested understanding religions, make sure that you use words such as ‘academic study of religion’ or ‘comparative religion’. You may be interested in the subfield of religion called ‘Cognitive Science of Religion’. This study focuses on the biological and neurological aspects of religion. Focusing on questions such as “what happens on a chemical level when people picture the divine” or “what is conciseness.”
If you are interested in the cognitive side, you’re going to want to research Dr. E. Thomas Lawson and his literature. He’s actually the mentor of my mentor, and still teaching well into his nineties. While I still have you, you should check out works by Dr. Eboo Patel as well.
I am very passionate about this field of study, and I could go on for days. But I’m sure I’ve already bored you, I just want to finish up with a few reminders. Remember to stay objective during this, research authors, and have fun. It’s a really interesting topic.

Berkowitz story
The Shadow of the City
In the sweltering summer of 1976, New Haven City trembled with fear. A lone gunman, known only as "The Nightstalker," stalked the streets, preying on unsuspecting victims.
The Unseen Turmoil
Born to secrecy, Alex Grayson struggled to find his place in the world. Adopted by the loving but strict Harrison family, Alex's search for identity fueled an inner fire. As he navigated the complexities of adulthood, the shadows within him grew darker.
The Reign of Terror
Over the next year, Alex wreaked havoc on New Haven, shooting six and wounding seven. His cryptic letters and messages taunted the authorities, leaving a trail of confusion. Detective Jameson, a seasoned veteran, spearheaded the investigation, racing against time to unravel the mystery.
The Web of Deceit
As Alex's grip on reality faltered, he became convinced that a malevolent force, embodied in his neighbor's black dog, "Raven," drove him to kill. The line between reality and delusion blurred.
The End of the Nightmare
A crucial witness, Emily Wilson, reported seeing a suspicious figure near one of the crime scenes. Her description matched Alex. On a fateful August evening, Detective Jameson apprehended Alex in a quiet suburban street.
The Trial of the Damned
Alex's trial captivated the nation. He pleaded guilty to the heinous crimes but claimed the devil's influence. On a somber June day in 1978, the judge sentenced Alex to consecutive life terms.
Redemption or Ruse?
Decades passed, and Alex claimed to have found solace in faith. Yet, as he stood before parole boards, his words fell hollow. Was this a genuine transformation or a desperate ploy for freedom?
The Echoes of Madness
The Nightstalker's legacy haunted New Haven City, forever etched in the collective psyche. Experts debated the intricacies of Alex's mind, searching for answers in the shadows. The darkness that drove him remained an enigma, a chilling reminder of the horrors hidden within.
Jeffrey Dahmer story
The Shadow Weaver
In the industrial town of Ashwood, Wisconsin, a sinister force lurked in the shadows. Julian Blackwood, a seemingly ordinary young man, harbored a dark secret.
Fractured Beginnings
Julian's early life was marred by his parents' tumultuous marriage. His father, Malcolm, was a scientist, and his mother, Ava, suffered from crippling anxiety. When they divorced in 1985, Julian's world began to unravel.
As a child, Julian displayed an unusual fascination with taxidermy and the inner workings of bodies. His parents dismissed it as a phase, but this morbid curiosity would eventually consume him.
The First Thread
On June 20, 1985, Julian's darkness manifested. He killed Alex Jenkins, a hitchhiker, in a fit of rage. The act sparked a sinister awakening within Julian.
For years, he struggled to contain his urges, but the beast within grew stronger. In 1992, he struck again, claiming Jake Thompson's life.
A Tapestry of Terror
Between 1992 and 1998, Julian's victims mounted:
Ethan Lee, 19
Lucas Brooks, 25
Ryan Mitchell, 28
Eric Sawyer, 32
Each murder fueled Julian's depravity. He experimented with dark rituals and human preservation.
The Unraveling
On July 25, 1998, Julian's world began to crumble. Daniel Patel, 29, escaped from Julian's clutches and alerted the authorities.
Police discovered:
Human remains in various stages of decomposition
Cryptic journals and photographs
Evidence of twisted experiments
Julian's facade shattered. He confessed to the heinous crimes.
Trial and Confinement
Julian's trial began in January 1999. He pleaded guilty but insane. The court sentenced him to consecutive life terms.
In the maximum-security facility, Redstone Penitentiary, Julian's darkness consumed him. He was killed in a prison brawl on November 20, 2001.
Legacy of Shadows
Julian Blackwood's crimes left Ashwood scarred. His story serves as a haunting reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked mental illness and destructive impulses.
The darkness that drove Julian Blackwood remains an enigma, a chilling testament to the horrors hidden within.
