Indian Summer
Impressionen - Impressions
Nachmachen empfohlen!
Going out every day in all weathers sometimes takes a lot of effort. However, today was a particularly beautiful day that many people enjoyed. Whether walking around the lake, cycling or jogging, there were also some people out on the water in small and very large boats. The sun was really warm again. Some took to the water on a windfoil, others went SUPing and others, like us, even went into the water. At 56,3° F degrees you can no longer call it swimming, but it is incredibly refreshing, stimulates blood circulation and therefore also detoxification. We can really recommend it!

week 3: let's get this bread! (famous last words...)
Omg I can't believe it's only week 3, sm has happened, I swear more time has gone by than actually has 😅😮💨🙃 Starting this week feeling a little discouraged because I still have a backlog of schoolwork to catch up on, but let's see if I can get my hopes up again by the end of this week! 🙏🏻🤞🏻If I want to achieve my goals, I need to drastically reduce my screen time. Here's to only using my phone for essential communications and for music, guided meditations, and pilates/yoga videos this week! 😤
mid-week update: this week has been a f*cking mess. mentally, emotionally, physically, existentially. i have not touched the db course so far which was my main goal for this week...every week i'm trying to add something new. i had my reservations about keeping on my original plan for this week, knowing i ended the last one still behind on school, but i went ahead with it, wondering, hoping if it was at all possible. well. we'll see where i'm at by the end of this week. at the very least i'll be closer to caught up.
end-of-week update: posting this early so i don't have to on sunday. i'm making progress but it's still slower than expected. insomnia is a problem. my nerves feel pretty frayed. must find ways to decrease the stimulation. time to reinstate the no-phone mornings (probs should add to my “bingo”) and a social media detox... not sure if i'll have time to post again next week. i find it hard to keep up. i'll probably come back if/when i get things under control...so bye for now (and i sincerely hope your semester is going better than mine 💗) 👋🏻
Academics:
Check and send pathology assignment!!!! ✅
Confirm immunology discussion due date!! ✅
Watch documentary on Wangari Maathai ✅ (glad i did this first thing on monday after sending the path assignment because it was really inspiring and lifted my spirits enough to keep going 💗)
Meet for pathology assignment ✅ (2 members in my group are like...really high-energy and gung-ho. i'm glad cuz that means it's a lighter load for me but woah was that overwhelming at first 😅 and the thing is...these guys aren't the first i've encountered like this. and i'm low-key jealous of them... they're the kind of people who give off the aura of “i'm capable of doing it all” because they're that driven...and based on what i've seen of them, i don't think they're faking it.)
Read all assignment descriptions for global health before you... ✅
Email chosen essay topic to TA by Thursday ✅
Finish M1 pathology by Wednesday ✅
Complete pathology M1 case questions
Finish half of M2 pathology by Sunday
Start pathology M2 case questions
Finish half of M2 global health by Friday ✅
Finish half of M3 immunology by Sunday
Finish M2 microbiology ~ (made some progress but not finished)
Start M3 microbiology
Participate in global health meeting ✅ (wasn't bad but also...not sure when this happened but i've gotten quite nervous speaking up in class and then in my overstimulation, forget some of what i had intended to say, ughhh just gotta keep practicing...)
Complete immunology discussion ✅
Send other pathology assignment ✅
Complete global health discussion ✅
Health:
Meditate x1

Pick an Autumn Snoopy 🍂
The autumn equinox is soon so let’s see what it might be bringing in for you!
Pile 1: Pile 1 you could be one to put others before yourself. You could be surrounded by people who follow some strict set of rules and they might apply those rules to you too. You could try to please them by following their rules and pretending as if that doesn't go against what you believe or what you'd like to do. For some of you it could also be that you are emotionally more mature than some people around you and you have to pretend to not be so as to not hurt their egos. Mostly because this person or people always want to be right and it would be tough for you to go against them. This person/people could quickly get defensive and it could cause verbal spats between the both of you. This could lead you to wear a mask around this person or these people. It could even leave you feeling quite isolated at times too. This probably won't be for everyone but for most or some this is a work place or boss I'm talking about here. What does this have to do with the equinox? You ask. It seems like this equinox is bringing you time to consider rest and rejuvenation. Maybe you're able to vacation, go to a spa or even spend some time alone at home taking a bath. Something about water and relaxing in or around water will be good for you. There is a sense of you "detoxing" from this person or people that day(s). You're going to be able to slough away any unnecessary energy they may have placed on you over time. By this I mean any down putting ideologies or just in general bad vibes. It will be a time for you to focus on yourself and pamper yourself. You could be buying yourself your favorite beverage and maybe some bath products or candles. Whatever it is you do that day it will be to help you cleanse. Whether you do that physically through a bath or energetically with flames (safely pls) you will feel a lot lighter afterwards.
Pile 2: Pile 2 your excitement for Halloween is coming through strongly. You're excited for all of it the trick or treating, the dressing up, and the candy. You're home or room is already decorated and you might continue to decorate if you find more home accessories. Now moving on you could be someone who is fairly young. A student perhaps who has a lot on their mind about their future. You don't necessarily have to be young to have chosen this group. What is shared in this group is that you guys have the future on your mind. You have a lot of racing thoughts. If you are a student you're thinking about next year, the next classes, what school to attend, do you want/need a masters? If you're not a student you could be thinking about your next step in life should I change jobs? Should I move states? The thoughts continue I could keep writing. This equinox will be a time for you too calm these thoughts. Meditation might be helpful, it doesn't have to be meditation though. I know not everyone likes to meditate or some people find it difficult. Anything that strengthens your intuition and trust in yourself is going to be helpful. The cards show that logically you are really intelligent and as such you are thinking of all the possibilities of your choices. That's good and helpful and you could find your answer(s) in trusting yourself and the process. You'll be able to use both your intuition and logic this equinox to make decisions that will bring in the best for you this fall.
Pile 3: There is a beginning coming in for you. Pile 3 you could have been working on something up until this equinox or around this time. You could be scared to show what it is you've been working on. For a lot of you I'm seeing this is something creative. Posting your art or music on social media might be some of the things you guys want to do. The point is several people will be watching you and what you've worked on. You're worried these people are going to judge you or hate you or your work. There are several cards suggesting that you will be more accepted and love than you think. You are showing up as the empress; you are knowledgeable, creative, and intuitive. People will enjoy seeing you shine. If you do find yourself receiving discouraging comments or energy you will more than likely be too busy following your dreams to pay attention to them. You know exactly where you’re going too btw. The scene in Brave where Merida follows the Will o the Wisps comes to mind. You could either need to find your inner Merida or you will find her. Independent of your gender you will be finding the courage to carve and follow your own path.
(You got three songs so that’s why I assume you might be an artist of some kinda esp w mona lisa there)

Balance. Here we are at autumn/spring equinox when day and night are closest to being of equal length. One of two days in the year when there's the greatest balance between dark and light, so it's natural to contemplate what is balanced and out of balance in our own lives.
We're going through a powerful planetary shift just now and it's easy to get thrown off balance, particularly if you're sensitive. We need to be really gentle with ourselves, allow things to flow and make sure we reach out for support to stay connected to our hearts through this time of change.
Emotionally there's a good chance your emotions will be swinging between extremes - feelings of deep peace, blissfulness and connection to Oneness in one moment, and then feelings of anxiety, confusion and disconnection the next. You have an inner state of balance between these extremes and it feels to me like we're strongly experiencing one polarity and then the next to show us exactly that - that they are polarities. Notice what you're feeling in each moment, without getting attached to what it might mean. Let your emotions flow through you without judging them or you. Compassion and patience towards ourselves are so important. When you get irritated with yourself, practice even more compassion and even more patience. And then some! Scleranthus Bach Flower Remedy will help if you're fluctuating between extremes.
Prioritise getting lots of sleep (anyone else having totally bonkers dreams and waking up feeling tired after all that dreamtime activity?), good nutrition to feed your cells, and take deep breaths as often as you can remember. I recently read that most of our detoxing happens through respiration so by taking 10 full deep breaths every hour, we are naturally supporting our bodies to release..
The more you can support yourself to flow and release, the more balanced you will feel. Beneath the apparent chaos and confusion of this time you have a deep unshakeable connection to the truth of yourself - you are love made visible. Everything else is just passing through. So breathe deep, keep checking in with your heart and treat yourself like the most precious person in the world (you are).
Release and Realign.
Feeling chaotic, confused or stuck? Meditate for a heart connection, energy clearing, healing, intuitive wisdom, and Soul-deep recalibration to help you let go of what's holding you back so you can move forward with certainty and clarity.
Struggling to quieten your mind, stay centred and fall asleep? I recommend inner peace meditation - cheaper than a decent bottle of wine and you can do it night after night!
Wishing you ease and balance this week.

I wonder. When is it that a flower is most alive? Is it during the restful moments of winter, deep rooted moments beyond our comprehension? Or, is she most alive during the impermanent hours of spring, when worldly pleasures designate her appearance as a beautiful sight?
Oh, winter. You're a fascinating, quiet season that lulls me to sleep with your icy song, one that seems to linger incessantly. I confess, for many years you were hard to love with your cold breath that chilled me to the bone, and a bold presence that seemed to last so much longer than spring or summer ever did. But, that was then.
Now, I see you are a blessing in disguise, as you offer the opportunity for a reset - a time to slow down and reassess priorities. Sometimes, the most productive thing we can do is give ourselves time to rest. Because if we don't, there may come a day when we are forced to do so. Besides, without you, would I appreciate the fleeting moments of an Autumn afternoon? Or, would I tire, perhaps get bored of summer's length of days?
Dear friend, how lovely it is to write to you again. I took a break from sharing new posts and poetry with you, and while my time away was extremely rejuvenating, I am feeling ready to begin a new year and new routine.
Sometimes, even when we feel like we should continue onto the next big project, it is necessary to step away for a moment and reassess how we want to show up in the world.
While I was away, many days were spent cleaning, cleansing, clearing my home to welcome this year's new energy and purging what no longer serves me. Many days were also spent cooking, baking, trying my hand at new recipes, and of course, writing.
I tackled some long, overdo DIY projects with the goal to beautify and upkeep our old, but very loved home. I went on a self imposed social media detox, switched off apps, removed them from my home screen and really forced myself to watch for my unhealthy consumption habits.
Moreover, I focused on healing my body and on addressing bad habits that were mainly caused by too much desire over discipline, too much restlessness over patience, too much impulsivity over clarity and too much feeling over reason. As matter of fact, my journey to better health and healing continues by addressing ongoing and newly surfaced health concerns.
Going forward, I will have to figure it out, make time for me, for self care that I've neglected for years, detach from people, habits, and fears, in favor of living more fully, taking deeper breaths. I want to create more, at a slower pace, for the simple joy of creating, rather than for vanity metrics and for fear of falling behind. I want to travel more, not as a tourist, but as an explorer, exploring my own mind most of all.
At the moment, I'm dwelling with the high feeling that comes from new beginnings. I know it will subside. I also know it takes a while for the subconscious to convert a new habit into a routine.
So much can happen in a year - or in a day, if we really think about it. There is always a part of us which needs more love, more healing, more stillness. Maybe that alone is reason enough to celebrate winter.
Thank you, sweet friends, and with you I welcome the year of our Lord, 2024. Ah yes, the year of the Green Dragon, one of many changes, in which I will do my best to accept, and adapt... and learn, yes, there is still much to learn.
Respectfully, Maritza

September
September is here and I know this post is late, but I had to take a slight social media detox! I swear once September hits I am all Fall, y’all!! I’m about all things apple, pumpkin, fall leaves, sunflowers, soup, etc! Did you know that apples (and apple trees) are associated with love, health, divination, rebirth and renewal, life, learning, and so many other things? The original bobbing for apples game was a form of slight divination, even! It was said that marriage would come to the first person to bite into the apple while bobbing. Also, if you cut into an apple, you’ll find a pentacle type star!
Correspondences of September are sapphire and sardonyx for crystals, the bear and owl for animals, flowers are morning glory and aster, and the zodiac sign is Virgo.
Let’s talk about some days in September:
Not only is Labor Day the 2nd, but also the Celtic Tree Month of Vine begins…happiness and wrath are both symbolized with the vine, garden magic, magic for joy and happiness but also wrath, rage, anger.
Magical influences for this are empowerment, inner growth, introspection, and prophecy.
Sept 4th is bring your manners to work day (I liked this one, cause I’m constantly reminding myself to have manners in moments where people are pissing me off lol.)
Sept 7th national salami day and world beard day (I liked these two because we used to call our younger sister “salami” to piss her off when we were all younger and we still sort of joke about it to this day… and my boyfriend has a beard that I just love. I love feeling it, smelling it, looking at it…lol!)
Sept 8th grandparents day
9/11… a tragic day that affected so many lives in one way or another! On this day remember all those who lost their lives due to this tragic event and the war it caused!
Friday the 13th
FULL MOON in Pisces on Sept 17, Harvest moon aka the nut moon, barley moon, or wine moon (love that!), the color for this full moon is brown and crystals are carnelian, cat’s eye, iolite, lapis lazuli, peridot, sapphire, blue spinel, blue tourmaline, and zircon
Magickal influences from this moon are confidence, the home, manifestation, protection.
This is a Moon of wisdom, take this time to reflect back on lessons learned this past year, darker days are coming which is good for shadow work.
September 18th NATIONAL CHEESEBURGER DAYYYY
September 21st International Day of Peace
Sept 22 is Mabon, also known as the autumn (or Fall) equinox – this is a time where night and day or light and dark are balanced. This is a sort of mid-harvest festival, we are celebrating the second of 3 harvest festivals. I’ve read that there is a slight connection to Mabon for how Oktoberfest was created, by the Bavarians. They start celebrating this in the last week of September.
Celebrate Mabon and give thanks to the Earth for abundant crops, practice gratitude, give blessings, share with the less fortunate. When canning, infuse your recipes with magickal influences and charm your jars.
Mabon is also one of those “liminal times” or an in-between time. These are powerful times for spell-work, rituals, and magick in general.
Colors for Mabon are blue, brown, gold, maroon, orange, violet, and yellow
Plants, herbs, etc: aster, marigolds, sage, ivy, grape, fern, blackberry/bramble, chrysanthemum, grains, thistle, and trees are cedar, hazel, aspen, maple, oak, myrtle, and locust
gems: amethyst, topaz
animals: hawk, swans, swallows, geese, dogs, wolves
Element: water
Magickal influences: accomplishment, agriculture, balance, goals, gratitude, grounding
Deities are: Epona, Inanna, Ishtar, Kore, Modron (Celtic Great Earth Mother Goddess), the Morrigan, Persephone, Bacchus, Dionysus, Dumuzi, the Green Man, Hermes, Thoth, Mabon (translates to the divine son) is the son of Modron and he is associated with the element of water, grapes, ivy, dogs, horses, salmon and his magical influences are hunting, darkness, death, freedom, harmony, innocence, justice, the otherworld or underworld, quests, contacting spirits, strength, truth, and youth.
Ways you can celebrate Mabon:
Make a simmer pot with apples, cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg, vanilla, star anise, orange slices.
Host a harvest dinner and include apples, squash, corn, grains, root vegetables like carrots potatoes and onions, grapes and wine, nuts, pomegranates, mead, spiced teas.
Make a hearty stew with fresh baked bread, apple pie, mashed squash, mulled wine
Make a cornucopia, go to a pumpkin patch and farmer’s market, go for a fall nature walk, donate food, focus on balance in your life, write a gratitude list, decorate your altar for Mabon with apples, candles that are brown, orange, and gold, marigold and sunflowers, leaves, acorns, grape vines, a deity statue. Celebrate by giving thanks for the abundance and good in your life, and meditate on the things on the things from this past year you'd like to let go of!
Sept 30th Celtic tree month of Ivy begins which symbolizes life, death, and rebirth, spell work during this time would be great for self-work, healing, banishing toxicity, protection, binding spells
Magical influences during this time: decisions and introspection, growth, learning, developing skills.
September in general is a good time to work on magick and intentions for the home.
I feel like 2 of the biggest intentions you can work on in September however, are balance and change, so I’m going to share a spell for this month that I created!
Things you’re going to need: leaves, something to write with, sage, basil, apple, orange candle, oil, sunflowers.
Dress your orange (for balance and change) candle with oil of your choosing and sage for a clear mind, basil for opening yourself to receive messages, and sunflowers for overcoming obstacles.
Core your apple (for peace, rebirth and renewal, self-work) and place your candle inside. You’re basically using this apple as your candle holder!
Light your candle and meditate on the areas in your life that need balance and/or change. When you are done, write your setbacks and obstacles that you want to overcome (to make these changes and bring this balance) onto the leaves. Hold the leaves into your hands and let the wind take them away!

Here goes another "detox day one", lol.
Today started a little better. I think the biggest "antagonist" was likely eggs. I cut them out when I got the allergy results.
Egg whites was the only thing high on both the allergy AND intolerance results.
It kicked in quite hard after breakfast, but it usually hits earlier than that.
Have to get the milk reaction out of my system now.
Got up and out for a lovely little morning walk. That half hour first thing from getting out of bed does me so much good.
New breakfast idea. Got a bit fancy with the few ingredients I have, that I'm still allowed to eat.
Chia seed protein powder, plus actual chia seeds, cacao powder, coconut "flour", mixed with olive oil. Apple, cinnamon and walnuts. Liquorice root.
I usually just have the apple and a bigger portion of nuts, but I felt like trying something a bit unusual.
Black coffee blended with more olive oil, collagen peptide powder and inulin.
Feels good to have breakfast outside. Autumn is almost here, but I'm going to enjoy the remains of good weather for as long as I can.
I got into sme fabulous weight training before lunch.
Upper body today.
Chest press, wide grip rows, bench pullovers and seated shoulder press.
I'm refocusing on strength. But still staying away from bicep work. Need to try keep the bulk to a minimum!
I ended with a brief "sprint interval". I'm researching different things, and this is the latest one to take my notice.
Just a few minutes of all-out effort to finish a strength session.
I'm all about Stacy Sims right now. Her tag line is "women are not little men". And sprint intervals are her recommendation for menopausal chicks like me.
I've been listening to podcasts with her over the last couple of weeks. Love her ethos!
And I started her book last night.
I'm on it, Stacy! New focus - Get strong. Get hormonally healthy. Get back to my best!
I used plank jacks for that "finisher" today.
Five fast intervals, longer rest intervals between. Oof. Yeah.
The end of that little vid? That's how full effort intervals are supposed to hit you!
Feel great! Definitely appreciated a nice coffee (insrsnt with oatmilk) and a bit of a chill before making lunch.
And it was a good lunch, of course.
Chicken and avocado salad with grapes.
Fresh ginger, paprika and turmeric.
Herbs and spices are so good for us. Full of beneficial polyphenols. And they taste great!
Another lovely walk. Longer this time. Forest trails with the boss-man 😊
Today has been pretty good all round.
If the combination of intolerances and allergens were the cause of the mucus problem, it's no doubt going to take a while for everything to clear out of my very clogged up system! Have to remain optimistic.
Good day for an average fast, food and fitness. Feel better than I have in quite a while!

My November will be . . . Sleeping on clean sheets in satin pajamas with the windows open and big blasts of cool November air bustling over the windowledge, golden-haired toddler snuggles and kisses, deep breaths of Autumn in the early morning, watching the sunrise, reading my Bible, casting my burdens on God, high intensity morning runs, hitting the side splits, yoga and meditation, keeping a financial ledger, running molecular simulations, writing scientific articles, publishing papers, analyzing data, not masking my autism, big glasses of cool water, matcha lattes, intermittent fasting, coconut milk lattes, beautiful journals with sleek-writing pens, playing Bach on the piano in the hospital, afternoon walks with the baby, hot cocoa dates with my man, evening detox baths, clay masks, glass skin, holiday baking, steaming mulled apple cider, long Autumn walks in the yellow woods, setting boundaries with family, jet-setting to NYC, elegant parties in NYC, defending my dissertation, iceskating, and putting up a beautiful Christmas tree with thousands of tiny twinkle lights . . . .

Through my walks in nature this autumn, I learned valuable lessons about life and about myself. Contemplating the forest gave me peace; painting the autumn leaves became a moving meditation, each brushstroke a reflection on the ephemeral beauty of existence. Watching the river, with its constant flow, reminded me that change is the only constant in life. This journey and learning became my personal digital detox, an antidote against burnout, and a strategy to find inner calm. Sharing these experiences is like opening a window to my soul, inviting others to find peace in nature, creativity in art, and serenity in living slowly.

Bucket list for 2022 completed!
In the beginning of 2022, I've reflected on all the things I couldn't do in 2021 due to the pandemic and other reasons. Instead of making New Year's resolution, I wrote down the following bucket list (in no particular order). I have no idea how I achieved so much in one year, but I've completed my bucket list for 2022! This is deeply personal, so only read furthermore if you are interested in my personal life.
publish my poetry anthology: published on 22.01.22 via BooksonDemand. Buy it here!
write 15k words for my wip during NaNoWriMo: I only wrote 7k, mostly because I moved apartments but I’m still proud of my slow progress (follow me on NaNoWriMo)
read 22 books in 2022: if you’ve followed my reading challenge on GoodReads, you know I barely made it, but I did!
open an Etsy shop to sell handmade goods: I did, but then Etsay raised all fees and I had to close it shortly after opening it
start studying: in April I started studying media design
take a social media detox for 2 weeks: I voluntarily didn’t use social media at all during my 2 weeks long summer vacation, and then I accidentally destroyed my phone and had to wait 3 weeks to get a new one
