No, I am absolutely not "into" cars by any means, but the skills I've learned/developed - maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair - carry over perfectly. I've done a bit of research and here's the plan:
Finish my Electronics Technician certification in the USMAP program
Retire with 20-ish years experience as an electronics technician, with (disabled) veteran status
2 year degree in automotive technology from a community college, paid for with my GI Bill (not required, but will help)
Employment
Get ASE certified in Electrical/Electronic Systems (which will only require 1 year of on-the-job experience with a degree, vice 2 years without)

Y'all I Hyperfixated Again
I think I've finally settled on what I want to do after the Navy: Automotive tech or motorcycle mechanic.
I'm not "into" cars at all, but it's not far off from what I do currently - maintain, diagnose, troubleshoot, repair - just for more shit than specifically the electronics. 🤷🏻♂️ It all kinda works itself out really: I already have credits on my Joint Service Transcript from ET A school and C schools and my previous Associate's which can transfer, I'll have at least 20 years of experience in that field alone along with a USMAP certificate for Electronics Technician, I can use either tuition assistance during my next shore duty tour to start off, or wait until I retire and use my GI Bill to pay for it (I'd go the community college route).
And it's just a good fit for me, as I've learned while doing vocational rehab in recovery. I'm a tactile learner, I'm better working with things vice people, and it would keep me active mentally. I'd get some supplemental income doing work I enjoy doing, and could Do That Myself on my truck/future motorcycle.
