I started to really love mine mid game when she could use both grapple abilities, had electric whip and had the ability to give someone else a free turn. Their weapon being low damage is a serious negative when a lot of enemies start using armor. Skirmishers aren’t really super strong, but they are all around good units. Stun strike costs 1 focus to knock a unit backward 1 square, which is completely useless as it. Whatever you do, just stay away from stun strike, overcharge, pillar, and void conduit. Free focus is good focus, and having a cap of 3 is just a straight improvement for any type of Templar. It isn’t powerful enough to be single use. Deep focus and Channel are both very good for either path. The electric whip should be usable more than once per mission. Unlike the other two, i feel that skirmisher provides a unique role with the grapple abilities. I felt that overall ranger melee abilities were a lot better. I wasn’t a huge fan of almost all of the templar abilities. I think they start above a ranger, but their scaling is again worse so that once you reach high ranks they are basically even. There have been some really clutch moments with that, but you can only use it once per mission if i remember right. The only exception to this is their ability which explodes explodable objects in the environment for double damage. In this they serve a hugely important function, but once the fighting starts, they don’t contribute that much. Reapers are really what a stealth focused ranger should have been from Day One. So far i’ve found that reapers don’t scale that well.

1. HOMESHEDDINGSTEADING.

    In the year after seeing his best and worst possible futures, Jack is a mess of rage and fear. He is adamant to not lose his determination, but he fears what the future has to offer. In his new found fear though, Jack closes off from his usual friends and foes. He’s thrown himself into his own work, to distract him from the horrible things he saw. (And for many of his verses, he finds other ways to occupy his time, and to meet people he can’t imagine a future where he’s known them or hurt them, it helps ground him). 

    In his seclusion though, his parents grow weary. His mother finally gives him an ultimatum, in which he gives up his villainous efforts, or he lives on his own-- Apart from the family. Not abandoned, no, she ensures him that they will ever be ready to support him... Should he do they ask. So Jack has to leave, given the circumstances of his frustration and steadfast determination, he cursed them and left. 

` THE WAREHOUSE MCMANSION

    The only place to his name he could call home, that wasn’t owned by his parents, was a plot of land he used to store his machines, a large warehouse and a sizeable open space to dump whatever scrap he told himself he’d attend to later. Bought with money he made selling on weapons to criminals and villains, it would be first place he thought to call home, besides sleeping in one of his many vehicles-- the many of which were already stored there anyway, and would soon be joined by all of the work he was keeping in his parents basement.

    It’s a multi-story warehouse. The first floor is set into concrete foundation, a wide open space interspersed with concrete pillars and stuffed to the brim with inventions. Stuffed to the brim in inventions both failed and works in progress. Half the space is rearranged, a corner soon dedicated to a basic kitchen, flanked by a semi-clear space fitted with screens stacked upon screens and the switchboards to access them-- His work space for programming and surveillance, as well as his movie hot-spot, a cushy couch with a comfy blanket not far off. There’s a single bathroom, nothing more than a rest-stop style toilet and sink, he had to install his own shower, and mostly keeps it to his Jackmobile (name pending).

    Above the first floor is two floors of metal walkways, though nestled high above is a single, small office with large open windows. The office also leads out of the side of the warehouse, a sort-of fire escape down the back of the building, though it also has access to an adjacent rooftop. 

    Said adjacent rooftop is a sort of side-entrance and small shed-area, which holds the stairs leading to the bunker. The bunker is a large concrete compound that expands even a bit past the walls of the Warehouse proper. Many vehicles get lowered into this space, to rarely see the light of day again, through the large metal opening hatch in the center of Jacks warehouse, which when closed can be crossed like a floor, but is quite the falling hazard when open. The side with the steepest drop often raises a barrier to avoid such things, but the descending ramp could easily be tumbled down. But there haven’t been any accidents yet !      This part of the warehouse is lit by rows of florescent lights and is very creepy, Jack is kind of used to it but to most people, they would probably be very unsettled, with all the glassy eyes and restless machinery. Some things never got turned off properly down here...     If one can brave it though, there is a door that leans down a long hall of conduits and generators, it’s very hot and painful and also terrifying to be in, if you’re not used to it, but if you can make it to the other end, there is a room which Jack has turned into a bedroom, which shares space with further surveillance equipment. The door is sealed with a heavy metal security door, as Jack needs the utmost security. 

    There is a small area in the back of the land that it opens up out of the ground from, in a long ladder formation. Much of the surrounding land could be comparable to a junkyard though, covered in scraps and collapsed machines and large towers shunting energy into Jacks warehouse. The whole area is surrounded by large metal fences, topped in barbed wire and signs advising NO ENTRY. 

    Of course, it takes him a few years to get everything running perfectly, at first solar panels were installed and a couch and a grill were all he had, it took him some trial and error to discover the room at the end of the maintenance tunnel even.

    Jack has a kiddy pool out back for sure though, for hot days.

` THE JACKMOBILEHOME (NAME PENDING)

    But Jack wasn’t just a stationary villain. A lot of his work involves ambitious subversive strategies, daring heists and generally meeting with people halfway across the world. He adventures, wanders, he can’t be expected to stay in the warehouse always ! But he doesn’t have access to the family estates anymore, barely a week stay in the pent houses if he asks nicely. 

    So he travels in luxury. Or the nearest to luxury he can appreciate on a functional level. He’s made a home he can travel land, air or sea with, looking like a hulking black armored vehicle to the unsuspecting eye, it changes colors to look as inconspicuous as a moving truck should he need to leave it in public eye. 

    Its bulk is particularly due to his transformative nature, as a third of his width is dedicated to tightly concealed propulsion technology (adaptable for flight or underwater travel), and at least a fifth of its height dedicated to a concealed canon because oh, Jack liked things to go boom. 

    Inside the vehicle is spacious for the space available, with the basics in amenities. A kitchen, fridge and sink; A separated bathroom with a energy-producing septic tank; A separate, curtain-contained bedroom which is really just to say, a bed with a curtain around it; A table to eat at and one wall-inlaid screen which works as both a touch screen computer and television. Part of the wall above the dining table is see-through, though only from Jacks side, tinted whatever color the vehicle is for the time being. The front seats are two plush red leather seats, set in pilot & co-pilot fashion, though much of the controls can be AI-automated. 

    Jack has been meaning to paint the side of it with something awesome, but he needs it to change with the wings, so it’ll take some thinking... When he has the time or energy.

2. NEW BOTS AND DEFENSES.

` SMARTbots (PROTOTYPES)

    Jack grows tired of repairs, so in his spare time tries to invent new classes of self-repairing and auto-assembling machinery. Automation that is attracted to itself, that reconnects however is functional, that can adapt to surroundings and combatants. Jack considers them the ultimate machine, but much of it is prototype work currently. But he thrills in each step closer to perfection.

` DELTA OMEGA GAMMA SQUAD (DOGS)

    Jack lives by the aesthetic just because he can, so to protect his land when he’s away, he’s got a multitude of obscure security systems. Hidden weapons systems (nonlethal, but dangerous) and defense protocols for his base. But tripping the alarms to the base by entering the property will immediately alert the DOG Squad. 

   Jack is evil, but he doesn’t want to put REAL dogs in danger, you see ? Plus, real dogs can’t take enough or deal enough damage for his tastes, knowing what sort of villainy lurks in the world. So while vicious blood hounds on the surface, the DOG Squad is 100% killing machine, with only incidental mans-best-friend programming. They’re coated in a soft velvety fur, but their fangs are undeniably razor steel, their eyes burning red lights in the darkness. There teeth not only exude over 2000 newtons of force, they’re also hooked up to their backup battery, which means they can and will break your arm and then taze you.

3. PERSONAL UPGRADES.

` ALPHA ARMOR (CURRENTLY IN BETA)

Jack was inspired by his future self, partially, though he couldn’t grasp the direct blueprints from the slivers of paradox memories that kept in his mind (his mind couldn’t hold onto three different timelines worth of memories). So Jack is working through the trial and error of making himself armor. While Jack already wears body armor for protection and an air-filtration mask for flying, the Alpha Armor is different. 

The armor should: Increase his durability in battle, while being flexible and personalized. He aims for it to respond to his body, rather than external commands, in the future, but currently he relies on buttons inside the armor to activate certain features. 

    It comes with gauntlets which electrify quite violently, for electric punches and general tazing of people who get too close. Jack would like to make the armor increase strength, but at most, it can simply allow Jack to exude more force than usual, due to not having to fear injury from durability. But if you hold him down.... You’ve got him. (If he doesn’t taze you).

` EXTENDED MONKEY STAFF USAGE 

Jack recognizes that extended use of the monkey staff has left him stained with the magic monkey DNA. Currently, his teeth stay sharp, his cheeks scruffy and his reflexes keener, but he finds that with the monkey staff he can be highly productive in terms of energy. He might use it to avoid sleeping sometimes.

Hi not an EC but an enthusiast. Homeowner deployment.

20x20x6" NEMA 4x steel enclosure w/ 2x 48vdc drivers and 24vdc driver for outdoor lighting

Each driver is 0-10v dimmable via Lutron Ra2 (did a test fully sealed and rf communication still penetrates quite well).

Once exterior wall mounted, the enclosure will be feed from a 1gang outdoor extension on a 20A GFCI via EMT (cannot use NM conduit locally). This existing steel GFCI box is bonded via 1960's era AC.

I will be running a dedicated EGC wire through the EMT (despite being pretty sure EMT would be considered a suitable ground by itself) for extra protection as it's outside.

I have tapped a standard ground screw to the enclosure backplate that I will bond with the EGC wire coming from the EMT which then goes on to the first driver's ground connection.

The drivers are interconnected with 12/2awg Romex.

EMT feed will enter the lower left side of the enclosure. Will be slightly pitched so water would roll back towards the GFCI.

Plan to use compression fittings to connect EMT from GFCI Box to enclosure

7A max draw with all drivers turned on.

14awg LV leads to lighting will exit through the bottom plate and will have glands.

THIS IS NOT INSTALLED YET. I hope that's obvious. The drivers will have their covers on, there won't be a 16awg plug-in cord, 14awg LV leads will be installed, etc.

Questions:

Does the simple self tapping ground screw I installed on the backplate of the enclosure suffice as the connection point to the EGC? Or since it's an enclosure I need some split bolt or something specialized. I'm not sure of specific recommendations NEC-wise.

I also wanted to ensure the EMT was fully bonded to the enclosure (in addition to the dedicated EGC wire).. what is the legit way to do this? Is there some sort of collar that goes between the enclosure and the EMT connector nut that I can then wire to the enclosure's back plate?

Because of visual considerations the EMT will be entering the side of the enclosure, should I not consider doing this as it may present a water path into the enclosure (I will still pitch it away). Should I raise it and put an elbow coming in to the bottom instead?

Any recs on proper-bonding EMT water-tite compression fittings?

When assembling your galvanized EMT for exterior use, do you use any electrical silicone for added protection? Or a clear laquer on the galvanized EMT to help there as well?

Any issue feeding 2 lines of 12awg NM cable through a single 3/8" NM cable clamp (this is how the drivers are connected)

Despite being NEMA4x should I add a drain hole?

Lincoln Corsair PHEV, pression des pneus et freinage en hiver…

Curieuse coïncidence, alors que je devais conduire une petite auto allemande cette semaine, je me suis plutôt retrouvé au volant d’un VUS nord-américain de luxe, un Lincoln Corsair pour être plus précis car l’auto allemande en question était chez le concessionnaire pour un remplacement de…moteur.

Plutôt ironique comme situation car, depuis maintenant plusieurs années, «on» continue de ridiculiser l’industrie automobile américaine au profit des «merveilleuses» voitures européennes (lire allemandes) et asiatiques alors, avec un peu de recul, on se rend compte que ces bonnes vieilles Américaines continuent de s’imposer. En passant, je vous rappelle que la marque Lincoln a fêté ses 100 ans d’existence sous l’aile protectrice de Ford, comme je vous l’indiquais la semaine dernière. Il y a 100 ans, les belles marques étrangères n’existaient pas encore en Amérique du Nord. Pire encore, elles ne nous sont arrivées qu’il y a qu’une quarantaine d’années. Et encore…

Ce n’est pas que je condamne les marques étrangères de luxe, loin de là. Je ne me gêne pas pour les vanter. Toutefois, j’ai encore beaucoup de respect pour ces Américaines, surtout les Cadillac et Lincoln. C’est peut-être pourquoi j’ai encore deux Lincoln dans mon petit parc de voitures.

Les temps ont beaucoup changé. Et ils continuent de changer à une grande vitesse! Après le passage des belles berlines aux VUS sur le marché américain, l’arrivée plus rapide que prévu des autos électriques est aussi responsable de ces grands changements depuis les toutes dernières années. Si l’on revient aux Lincoln, sachez que depuis deux ou trois ans, il n’est plus possible d’en obtenir une version berline (pourtant, Lincoln a une si belle histoire…). Non, en Amérique du Nord, il n’y a plus que des VUM et/ou VUS Lincoln disponibles…même en limousine. Sa marque concurrente, Cadillac, tente toujours d’offrir des berlines dont les CT-4 et CT-5…mais ce ne semble pas être un succès retentissant. Pour les deux grandes marques américaines, il n’y aurait plus que des VUS. Et du côté des «importés», la tendance semble se confirmer aussi (saviez-vous que même Rolls-Royce connaît plus de succès que jamais avec son VUS Cullinan!). Qui plus est, avec l’évolution rapide qui nous prend par surprise, tous ces beaux VUS sont également condamnés à devenir des véhicules électriques.

Quand j’étais jeune, il n’y avait que de grandes Lincoln (et Cadillac). Avec le temps, les marques ont commencé à proposer également de plus petites versions de leurs véhicules, des intermédiaires puis des compactes. C’est pourquoi aujourd’hui, on retrouve quatre ou cinq différents modèles de chaque marque sur le marché. Par conséquent, le catalogue Lincoln de 2022 comprend quatre versions à sa lignée, de l’imposant Navigator basé sur une camionnette au superbe intermédiaire Aviator puis au VUM Nautilus (qui disparaîtra sous peu) se terminant au plus petit Corsair compact (ex MKC). C’est de celui-ci dont il sera question ici aujourd’hui. Toutefois, ce sera d’une version PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle) qu’il sera question.

Un hybride, c’est un véhicule qui doit faire le pont entre la version ordinaire à moteur à essence et sa version totalement électrique. C’est un peu la transition à faire pour ceux qui ne sont pas nécessairement prêts à faire le saut au véhicule électrique seulement. C’est un peu mon cas.

Je ne suis pas complètement prêt au véhicule totalement électrique (et encore moins au véhicule totalement autonome…mais cela, nous y reviendrons…). Évidemment, j’aime bien les hybrides car ils sont tellement utiles en conduite urbaine, surtout qu’ils ne coûtent rien ou presque en carburant. Toutefois, je souffre, comme bien des consommateurs, de la «Hantise de la panne» des autos tout électriques. Mais, je suis confortable avec un hybride qui, en fin de réserve de carburant, peut passer à un moteur à essence pour prendre la relève et terminer le voyage. Et dans un pays aussi vaste que le nôtre, l’option hybride est toute une solution !

La nouvelle version PHEV du Corsair pourrait être la réponse à mes besoins. C’est un beau VUS Lincoln, il peut rouler à l’électricité de la batterie sur une bonne distance et surtout, il peut se recharger à partir d’une borne à 120 volts! Oh! Et il est aussi économique en essence, un facteur majeur dans une époque où le prix de l’essence commence à tourner autour de 2,00 $ le litre!

Inutile de vous le préciser, on le voit bien, le Corsair, c’est le nouveau nom depuis les dernières années du Lincoln MKC. De base, c’est un petit VUM basé sur l’architecture du Ford Escape (tout comme la concurrence, il provient d’un véhicule plus modeste (tout comme le Lexus NX est extrapolé du RAV4 ou que l’Audi Q4 ou Q5 vient d’une plateforme Volkswagen et ainsi de suite) suffisamment modifié pour qu’il lui soit visuellement différent. Dans le cas du MKC/Corsair, sa ligne n’aura que peu changée depuis les dernières années mais, au moins, son avant réussit à reproduire l’ADN Lincoln.

Le plus petit Lincoln est normalement mû par un quatre cylindres Ford Ecoboost de 2,0 ou 2,3 litres. Mais dans le cas du Corsair, ce quatre cylindres est plutôt une version plus modeste à cycle Atkinson (qui ajoute une sorte de cinquième cycle pour une combustion plus complète du carburant) de 2,5 litres combiné à un moteur électrique intégré à la boîte de vitesses automatique à variation continue (CVT) afin d’atteindre une consommation de carburant la plus minime soit-elle. Cet ensemble apporte 266 chevaux à disposition du conducteur. Cependant, les ingénieurs de Lincoln (donc de Ford) ont réussi à tirer le meilleur parti possible de la batterie du moteur électrique afin qu’elle, à elle seule, puisse motiver le petit Lincoln sur une distance d’une quarantaine de kilomètres.

Disons que je n’ai pas de difficulté à croire à ces avancées de Lincoln. Mais ces données sont surtout basées sur des conditions idéales. Seraient-elles les mêmes en hiver alors que le mercure tombe allègrement sous les -20 degrés Celsius? Je vous l’affirme immédiatement : NON!

Lors de ma semaine d’essai (la deuxième de février) dans la région montréalaise, le mercure a joué entre les + 2 à – 20 degrés Celsius. J’ai alors branché le cordon de recharge  (un peu trop court à mon goût) du Corsair à une prise de 120 volts à côté de ma porte de garage. Il aura fallu environ une dizaine d’heures pour recharger la batterie du Corsair à son maximum. Malgré tout, je n’en ai retiré que 28 kilomètres de réserve (tel qu’affiché au tableau de bord). Et non 44 ou 45 (ce qui aurait pu être le cas en été!). Cette autonomie m’aura été satisfaisante pour de petites courses autour de la maison mais pas assez pour des besoins plus courants.  

Quoique je sois plus attiré par le principe du système hybride…je ne suis pas encore prêt à concéder mon appréciation pour des moteurs à essence (surtout que je sois encore emballé par le son des V8 avec échappements libres en course automobile!). Mais j’ai quand même aimé ce que j’ai vécu avec le petit Corsair…

Le petit VUS de luxe de Lincoln est un véhicule très appréciable. Sa ligne est facilement distinguable sur la route et ses dimensions sont quand même appréciables. Il accepte facilement quatre ou cinq personnes à son bord dans un confort relatif. Une des premières constatations en montant à bord, c’est le son sourd mais précis des portières quand on les referme. On y constate une certaine recherche de finition. Le tableau de bord ne présente aucune particularité spectaculaire mais tout y est facilement atteignable. Les commandes sont faciles à atteindre sans avoir à consulter le manuel d’instruction pour tout y comprendre! En d’autres mots, la configuration y est conviviale avec certaines commandes redondantes au volant (chauffant, en passant).

Les sièges avant (chauffants aussi) sont confortables surtout qu’ils soient ajustables en tant de façons (il faut aller à l’écran pour tout découvrir) que ça peut en être déconcertant) alors que les places arrière sont plus accueillantes qu’elles peuvent n’y paraître. Le grand toit ouvrant en verre peut ajouter, au besoin, de la lumière ou de l’air à l’habitacle. Quant au compartiment réservé aux bagages, il est très utile alors qu’il devient très vaste avec les dossiers de places arrière rabattus. On peut l’atteindre en passant le pied sous le pare-chocs ce qui fera ouvrir le hayon.

Sur la route

Alors que ce Corsair hybride enfichable serait plus destiné à des déplacements urbains, je n’ai pas hésité à utiliser mon petit circuit des Laurentides afin d’en apprécier le comportement routier. Au départ, je dois vous dire que le moteur de 2,5 litres, moins raffiné que les EcoBoost, est un peu plus bruyant avec un son parfois rauque qui ne va pas bien avec ce petit Lincoln. Mais au moins, il fait sentir sa présence ce qui devrait satisfaire certains utilisateurs qui aiment entendre une réaction de la mécanique. À très basse vitesse, quand le véhicule est en mode électrique seulement, on entend très bien le son provenant du moteur électrique ce qui devrait aider à avertir les piétons du passage du VUS.

Sur la grand-route, par contre, le Corsair est relativement silencieux et dépendamment du niveau de fermeté de suspension choisi par le conducteur, il est très confortable. Je pourrais même dire qu’il est moins «mou» que les anciens MKC auraient pu être! Certains observateurs peuvent être portés à comparer le Corsair à d’autres VUS de même gabarit nous venant d’autres pays. Toutefois, alors que les constructeurs de ceux-ci aiment promouvoir le comportement sportif et ferme de leur produit, pour nous au Québec, il faut savoir d’abord composer avec des routes pas toujours parfaites, surtout au printemps. On en appréciera alors sa suspension plus adaptée à nos besoins. De mon côté, je me suis senti à l’aise au volant du Corsair sachant très bien que ce n’était pas un bolide de course ou de performance. Ses accélérations de 0 à 100 km/h sont modestes, autour des sept à huit secondes, mais ses reprises sont convaincantes sans être nécessairement spectaculaires. La visibilité y est bonne et on peut apprécier le confort (et la musique  alors que ce Corsair d’essai était équipé d’une chaîne stéréo des plus agréables). Évidemment, ce véhicule était aussi équipé de toutes sortes d’aides à la conduite. Les pneus d’origine avaient été remplacés par des pneus d’hiver Pirelli Scorpion qui m’ont paru à la hauteur de la situation tout en étant silencieux sur pavé sec. Une partie de mon trajet s’est fait sur une route enneigée près de Mont-Tremblant et grâce à la combinaison traction intégrale et pneus Pirelli, je me suis senti en confiance au volant de ce Corsair.

En ce qui a trait à l’économie de carburant qu’apporte le système hybride, il peut certes être très efficace. Selon l’ordinateur de bord, sur les 467,7 kilomètres parcourus moitié-moitié en ville et sur autoroute, 156,8 l’ont été en mode électrique seulement soit un peu plus que le tiers! Je crois que c’est notable. Alors que l’ordinateur de bord indiquait une moyenne de 6,8 l/100 km, mon calcul à la pompe était de 7,2. Très près alors que le constructeur affiche une moyenne (idéale) de 7,1 l/100 km! Pas si mal pour un véhicule de plus de 4,500 livres! Notons cependant que le réservoir n’est pas très gros, à peine 46 litres. Quoique l’essence super devrait permettre un rendement plus élevé du quatre cylindres, il fonctionne parfaitement bien avec de l’essence ordinaire. Enfin, la capacité de remorquage d’un Corsair est de 1361 kg ou 3000 livres.

Le Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring AWD PHEV n’est pas donné! Incidemment, la fonction hybride enfichable n’est disponible qu’avec la finition très haut de gamme Grand Touring! Alors, le prix de base du véhicule était de 58 500 $ mais il avait pour 11 900 $ d’options incluant le Groupe 301A (sièges ventilés, volant chauffant, essuie-glace sensibles à la pluie, essuie-glace chauffés, ensemble d’aide à la conduite Co-Pilot360 Plus, aide au stationnement, régulateur de vitesse adaptatif et plus encore) de 4500 $, la peinture bleue spéciale de 900 $, les carpettes supplémentaires de 200 $, les sièges ajustables de 24 façons de 1500 $, les jantes en aluminium de 1200 $ et l’ensemble de technologie (affichage à tête relevée, connectivité avec WiFi et plus encore) de 3500 $. Ajoutez cela les 100 $ de la (toujours aussi ridicule) taxe d’accise fédérale pour le climatiseur et les 2195 $ de frais de transport et de préparation et on en arrive à un total de 72 595$ pour ce véhicule spécifique. Cette facture peut nous sembler un peu élevée mais c’est le niveau de prix à payer pour ce type de véhicule. Et le Corsair n’est certes pas le plus cher!

Encore une fois, pour certains, ce Corsair ne se mesure pas à certains véhicules de la concurrence. Mais, dans l’ensemble, ce que j’en ai vu, c’est qu’il était question de performance et de tenue de route à des vitesses qui ne sont pas à l’image de nos conditions locales. Quant à moi, je crois que le Corsair est un bon véhicule à considérer dans son créneau alors que son entretien devrait être facilité par le nombre élevé de concessionnaires de la marque. Les rapports du célèbre magazine Consumer Reports indiquent que les propriétaires de Lincoln Corsair aiment beaucoup leur véhicule…et c’est ce qui compte, non?

En mai dernier, j'ai changé ma Mustang GT décapotable 2016 pour une Lincoln Continental Reserve 2017 complètement équipée avec seulement 24 000 km. Quelle belle voiture! Je n'aime pas les VUS alors j’appécie cette superbe berline qui est maintenant rare et plus encore depuis qu’elle n’est plus construite. Seul bémol, j'aurais voulu le moteur 3.0 litres. Mais le 2.7 ne me déçoit pas. Alors, je l'adore.

Vérifiez la pression de vos pneus!

S’il y a un moment de l’année où il est important de vérifier la pression des pneus de votre véhicule, c’est bien à l’arrivée du printemps. Même s’il y a des détecteurs et des indicateurs de pression des pneus à votre véhicule, nombreux sont les automobilistes qui négligent cette pression. Une simple tournée dans un stationnement révèlera un nombre étonnant de voitures ou camionnettes ayant un ou plusieurs pneus sous-gonflés. C’est qu’en ce temps-ci de l’année, les nids-de-poule se forment rapidement et certains d’entre eux peuvent être «mortels» pour un pneu sous-gonflé. En plus, ils peuvent endommager irrémédiablement une jante. Et ne comptez pas sur la ville pour payer pour vos dommages!

Malheureusement, ce ne sont pas tous les trous qui sont remplis. Pourtant, il existe d’excellents produits dont Aquaphalt, un produit de colmatage qu’un de mes amis, Dominique Fortier de la compagnie Stinson, m’a fait connaître car c’est ce qu’il vend. Aquaphalt est un mélange à base de polymères qui durcit au contact de l’eau ce qui serait mieux que de l’asphalte chaude ou d’un «patchage» qui se défait rapidement. C’est à se demander si, au Québec, on préfère utiliser des produits de basse qualité ne serait-ce que pour économiser. Par conséquent, vous ne pouvez compter que sur vous-mêmes. Vérifiez régulièrement la pression de vos pneus!

Deux ou quatre roues motrices…une différence au freinage?

Autre question qui m’a été posée cette semaine suite à une remarque à une émission de télé. Un véhicule à quatre roues motrices arrête-t-il plus vite sur route glacée (ou enneigée) qu’un véhicule à deux roues motrices? À l’émission, on y disait qu’il n’y avait pas de différence. Je n’ai jamais essayé de prouver l’efficacité du freinage d’un 4 x 4 en hiver mais, dans ce cas,  je préfère me fier à l’école de conduite de rallye Team O’Neil au New Hampshire où j’ai déjà eu des cours de pilotage en hiver. Avec des images convaincantes, ils en concluent qu’un 4 x 4 arrête plus vite sur route enneigée ou glacée.
