I  Imagine: trying to make Joel Smile.

 Eating with Joel wasn't abnormal you share a meal with him daily, but never on fresh tablecloths, or food that was So delicious your mouth was having a mouth orgasm. it's been so long since you had flavors food. it reminded you of the old days. Rosemary, Spices. it was as if you fell back into the good old days. where the world wasn't taken over by Clickers, When you had a car, movie theatres, planes, and God. Chocolate bars! you hadn't had chocolate or Sugar in years. but here you sat with Bill, Fred, and Joel. Bill and Fred went inside to grab dessert as you looked over at Joel who was just the same. cold, content, and No emotions showing. you to another bite of your Flavourous Rabbit as you looked at him. Joel is your complicated Partner,  you trusted him with your Life, and he trusted you. and you share an apartment. and sometimes you share a bed. both physically and PHysically! but he wasn't your "boyfriend" he wasn't your "lover" he was more than that. he was complicated. He use to be with your Aunt. Tess. Who figured out that Joel had feelings for you. and you received it. At first, your Autn was furious that you "Stole" her man. and secondly got annoyed that you were falling for a man almost 20 years older than you. but you didn't mind. you didn't care. you just were glad to find happiness. It wasn't a huge romantic gesture when Tess Left. and you were Now the Only girl in Joel's life. it was the same as it was before. just without your Aunt. it's been two years. you and Joel got over the betrayal you caused. but also didn't cause. because you didn't do anything with your Aunt’s boyfriend until AFTER Tess was gone. looking over at Joel you grinned weakly. as you swallowed your rabbit, "God, you are so breathtaking. I forgot my pickup line." Joel just rolled his eyes before Frank came back and you went off with him. getting to walk around the quiet town with Joel with Frank and Bill not too far behind you couldn't help but bounce. this area. this little piece of heaven. reminded you of the old life. the world where you were 18 when the world went to Hell. your biggest problem back then was two boys who asked you to  Prom.  but now here you were.. walking close to Joel "Would you give me a pinch?" Joel looked down at you as he said what. as you smiled up, "you are so cute, I guess I must still be dreaming." "Jesus Christ.." he walked faster as you laughed as you spoke up, "Oh come on Joel that was a good one!" "you’re an idiot!" you chuckled as Frank reached over to you, 'everything alright?" "he didn't like my pickup line>' Frank chuckled as night arrived you both were sleeping in the house as you sat on the bed watching Joel get the room locked and secure to keep you safe. Even those Bill and Frank were friends. Joel couldn't help but be on high alert.   "Do you have a sunburn?" Joel rubbed his neck, as he walked over to the mirror not seeing  he's skin being Red as you finished the line, "are you always this hot?" "where the fuck are you getting all these Pickup lines?" you reached over to your backpack opening up the first flap as you pulled out 102 cheesy pick-up lines." Joel cursed walking over and grabbing te book as he spoke, 'where the fuck did you get this?" "Frank took me to the once library. and I grabbed this and a few books." "you know to book sare going to Slow us down." "No! because I stole a wagon we are taken with us. Bill already said I could take it." Joel rubbed his face as he spoke, "great. More shit to bring with us." "oh, Hush." he walked over to the bed lay down and tossed the book over to the nightstand. "Are you from Tennessee? because your the Only ten I see?" that one got Joel to chuckle as he reached over clicking off the light, "Jesus that one is old.." you chuckled wrapping your arm around him and holding him as you lay your head on his chest. "Joel.." "yea?" 'If you were an item on MacDonalds, you would be McHottie" "god Stop! these are horrible" he's laugh was deep and you could hear it rumble in his chest as you smiled into his chest and quickly gave his peck a kiss before moving your head, "come on. that's a good one." "your a idiot." "yea but you stuck with me." 'promise?" you smiled to that nodding your head, "yea forever Mchottie."

As I understand it: The Protestant rejection of Catholicism is partly tied to political and economic power, as in many European institutions, like higher education, were dominated by the Church and its ties to landowning arisotocrats. Lower classes, rising in literacy as alternative means of self education through publishing and industrialization arising, found they were discriminated against for trying to express understandings of faith that were outside of orthodoxy (aka heresy).

American Protestantism was born from a view that Catholicism, with its many arcane rituals and obscure theology, was obscuritan, and strove to distance itself from this to establish a common understanding of religion, faith and god that rejecting the 'idolatrous' trappings of Catholic ceremony, liturgy, etc. American Christianity especially sought to individualize itself, emphasizing the personal experience of religious insight over the intense studies of faith that goes into Catholic education.

IMO it's a little bit of populism, a little bit of historical instutitional inequality, and a little bit of that American "my ignorance is as good as your knowledge" that Issaac Asimov noted about America.

I think Autn-Shei FIlms did a good overview of how and why American modern religion is Like That, through his look at Puritanism. It's a fascinating historical result of lots of differing political, economic, religious, cultural and spiritual factors!

One of my favorite things about the difference between Protestant denominations and Catholicism is that Protestants made their whole thing being So Fucking Boring(tm) and normal that if you were raised around Protestants with little to no connection to the Catholic Church when you find out about all the saints and rituals and bones and shit it genuinely comes off as a little like...pagan isn't the right word exactly but you know what I mean? Like for my entire life good Christians sat on folding chairs in a beige basement eating shitty donuts from Albertsons and told me liking Pokemon and Halloween made me a sinner and then I go to see an old Catholic church and there's just like. A fucking ancient corpse in the room?? That everyone is praying over??? Like????? And THIS is actually the religion all the "Pokemon normalizes devil worship" guys originally came from several hundred years ago??????
