So, I've read all ur fanfictions. And. I love them. I love all your characters, plots, cliffies, descriptions, angst and I just love the thought of u writing. So, I wanted to know how u write? [months of plotting or sudden typing?] Where do u get ur inspirations from? Do u have any book recommendations? Fanfic recs? I would love to get some writing tips from you! (this is no shallow praise tbh) & another Q, does Chained have a happy ending? wb KBD?

Q1:

Wow, first of all, thank you! Hmm, honestly, when I think about writing a fic it all boils down to finding an interesting or unique relationship dynamic to flesh out and explore. With DBM, it’s ‘helpless, lovesick pining for a mass murderer’; in KBS, it’s the ‘whole double identity with completely different relationships online and offline’ relationship. And with Chained, it’s the ‘heart broken godson with high expectations/cruel godfather who thinks said godson is a Death Eater’ (phew).

So just think about relationship dynamics you want to see that you haven’t, or AUs that you like in other fandoms that you haven’t seen in the current one (*cough* Hanahaki).

For inspiration, I honestly recommend the fic Open at the Close by allthegoodnamesaretakendammit. I think it’s such an interesting and careful, yet masterful demonstration of writing a complex ship. The author really considers the moral implications, such as Harry’s angst and disbelief at himself for liking someone way older than him, etc. By really exploring the consequences and all the dimensions of a troublesome pairing, you can actually make it really appealing imo. :)

Q2:

Recommendations? For fanfiction, literally anything by ObsidianPen and rightonthelimit. I recently read Ouroboros , the pairing dynamics here are soo interesting. And, of course, TanninTele’s The Matchmaker has probably one of the most interesting setups.

My favorite time travel/AU fic EVER, of all time, is Warrior's Heir by Oseira. I obsessed over this unfinished fic for years. Please join me in my pining obsession. I have been waiting for someone to write another fic like this.

Q3:

KBS definitely has a happy ending. 

Chained — has an arguably happy ending? Certain people live, certain people die. At some point, Harry will be transported back to the present, where he’ll have to deal with the consequences of his actions. Things will change and I have a lot of plot twists planned.

I started shipping them a couple years back. It was sort of a natural progression after I’d virtually exhausted all the Volmione stories that were dark, questionable, and featured a repugnant Lord Voldemort.

I didn’t start shipping pretty boy Tom until some time after, so I sought out all the potential ships that could be with Lord Voldemort (and that couldn’t because I don’t mind crack pairings). That was more or less how I stumbled into the Harrymort ship. I had no idea what I was going to find, especially when I had started reading on FFnet as opposed to AO3 (though I did eventually end up there, of course).

I wouldn’t be able to tell you which story by whom was what got me attached to the hip to the ship, but what I can provide is a list of author’s that...lubricated the journey.

I was a lurker for a good few months (6 months, if not a year, I can’t precisely recall. I just know this was back on the latter end of 2015 to middle 2016 and on). I hadn’t started writing. I didn’t really know what to do for the ship since I was not entirely familiar with Harry Potter’s little quirks. 

Then, I met someone over on the tumblr tags. They were the voice of encouragement to begin writing and publishing my works. And I did. I thought to myself “why can’t I write what I want to see?” and so I went on a frenzy to write the sort of stories that I couldn’t get for many of the ships I was a part of.

(This was also the time I started to read pretty boy Tom. I found some nice things that changed my mind).

Eventually, after I managed to overcome my massive social anxiety, I joined a discord server where I took my writing into overdrive. I managed to write over 30 fics in about a year or so? I can’t quite specify since a lot of them were thrown into a drabble series.

Anyway, that was around the time I started to ship them in earnest since there were plenty of amazing writers in this ship and a mass following. It seemed like a good place to write dark stories and improve my writing. And it was well appreciated. It seemed that after a time of pure fluff, there was a hankering for the kind of illicit, dark, and erotic material I was interested in producing.

And there it is. That’s basically my adventure in the tomarrymort side of things.

could you recommend any Tomarry fics? I'm trying to get into it but I don't know where to start~

Sure :)

This is technically an author but I’d start with anything by Rightonthelimit. Her characterisation of Tom is perfect, and most of her fics are AUs so it’s a good way to break into Tomarry--nothing too dark and mostly short fics so they’re an easy read but with good characterisations and well-written. And I think everything she’s written is complete so that’s always a plus :D

Fate’s Favourite by The Fictionist is another good beginner’s fic. It’s more friendship/pre-slash than anything else but again the characterisations are really good and it’s an enjoyable story

To Kill You With a Kiss by Paimpoint is one of the first Tomarry fics I read so I have a soft spot for it. Plus it’s also really good and more canon-based and romantic than the other two

And also Their Verdict of Vagaries by Angstier is a must-read. It’s one of my all time favourite fics and it’s a time-travel and basically spans Harry and Tom’s life from about 16/17 to adulthood. It’s very long (over 600k words!) but it’s so good and it’s T rated so it’s a gentle break into Tomarry
