Current mood and Fic Rec

Betty reaches forward and turns on the radio, and the sweet crooning of doo-wop filters through the speakers. She’s always liked the genre; it has the chronic romanticism that can span to relevance of any part of her life, but it’s also as soothing as it is saddening. Like catching the eye of her reflection across the crowded room of her heart and not being able to close the distance.

She slips her hand out the window, undulating it against the wind, and lets her mind clear.

Feeling: This is exactly what I needed today and I’m sinking deep into the reverie of it. This is my first time reading this story and I wish I could read it for the first time a thousand more times. Chapter six could be my spirit animal for this moment. If anyone else HASN’T read this, I can say without a doubt and without even being finished that you should definitely read it. It’s the Bughead and Betty and Jughead and Cheryl and Veronica and Kevin and Archie that you could only hope for in canon.

FICS I’VE READ THIS WEEK (17)

Hello everybody!! I hope everyone is having a wonderful week!

So, I’ve started my vacation. When I planned this vacation way back in February it was going to be a whole lot more fun than what I’m experiencing today - but we’re remaining healthy and safe so I can’t complain too much. Everyone else’s plans have been changed this year so we’re all in a mega state of disappointment and concern - at least we’re in it together. I’ve been privileged enough to work from home since the middle of March and though all the trips abroad we had planned have been cancelled, I’m incredibly grateful for the blessings in my life and the health and safety of the people I love.

Now - that was much more of a downer than I meant it to be - so let’s talk fanfiction. Still haven’t written a word of my own (and that stems from something other than the pandemic) - but I have been lucky enough to beta read some super fun chapters and I’m SO excited that people are loving them as much as I have. I’ve also been reading some older favourites and leaving reviews - this morning I got a reply to a review and it filled my heart with such happiness. I’m so glad that my encouragement was able to buoy up someone who was struggling - so I really encourage everyone who rereads a story (even if it’s a million times) - to leave a review. Let the author know how much their work means to you. It means the world to them, I promise. <3

15. What are you most looking forward to when the quarantine is over?

I’m looking forward to leaving the house, seeing my friends in person, going to the library, watching movies in theaters, tanning on the beach, getting into my gym routine again, being less stressed out by the state of the world.

Hello, you gorgeous gloriousness of gray roundness! I hope your day is awesome too!

Oh my god. Maria, did you see? Someone finally likes me best. 

Take that, high school English teacher who used to make me sit outside before class even started! 

(Ugh, he wore black socks and sandals so like, he was suspect from the start. Once you added in his Hawaiian print shirts, well, what you have there is an out and out criminal)

Anyway! What are my favorite fics? Hmmm. Let me dwell for a hot minute on that. 

Okay, so true story, I didn’t know what Riverdale was, right? But I loved the comics as a kid (until I figured out what they were doing to Betty, then I got indignant and swore off men in the name of solidarity to Betty) and I actually saw on here that Bughead was a thing. So I hunted it out. Fell in love. Sigh. Spent most of s2 horrified that people were getting paid to make us think there was any sort of overarching plot other than Jughead’s hot now. And look! He’s in a gang. Isn’t that coooool? 

(Not really, it’s not even a cohesive gang. Drugs, toys for tots, someone tell me what they dooooooooo?) 

Anyway, ignore that, I still love the characters is what I’m saying. And that’s the only thing that matters when it come to fic, I think. 

Now, I have a soft spot for the very first Bughead fic I read, which was Boats Against the Current by @teapotfiction

👋 it’s your secret Santa. Just curious what is your favourite kind of bughead fan fiction? Is there a particular trope your a fan of or any particular authors or stories that are your favourites.

 Oooh, that is a great question! I always feel weird reccing authors or specific fic because I’m afraid of leaving anyone out, and also because I’m always about a month behind in reading/commenting on fic, but some fics that are currently in progress that I am enjoying a lot (in no particular order) are “Degrees” by @mistressofmalplaquet, “Cowboy Jones” by @writeradamanteve, "All’s Fair in Love (and War)“ by @rivervixens and @ stillscape,  “You’re a ghost town I’m too patriotic to leave” by dwelling on dreams on Ao3, “The Greenhouse Effect” by @happilyshanghaied,  "A Deed Without a Name” by @heartunsettledsoul, @onceuponamirror, @rivervixens, @stillscape, & @sylwrites and the series of short fics by both makingitwork and1sleepydormouse (AlderBee) on Ao3. (This is of course skipping a lot of awesome fics that are in my queue, and older fics I love). 

In terms of fic tropes, what I really adore the most is established relationship fic- I like seeing how they tackle problems together, how they support each other, and how they stretch and grow within the relationship and alongside each other.

Hi! I'm new to the Riverdale Tumblr family and I was wondering if you could recommend some blogs of authors who write Bughead fanfiction? Thank you.

Welcome to the Bughead Fandom on Tumblr!

Firstly - there is the Bughead Essentials post - with non-personal blogs that you should probably follow. These are like communities and resources that I would follow if I were new. If you like chat - head to @bugheadfamily for the Discord - it’s a pretty groovy place to be (I’m usually camped out in the Dylan channel - but there is something for everyone there)! :)

As for blogs to follow? I follow 591 blogs. I just checked - of those blogs, I follow 463 Bughead blogs. Too many for me to rec. You can look at the tumblr linky thing that says everyone I personally follow and conveniently it’s in the order that I followed them so Bughead should be mostly at the top. Keep in mind that on principle, I mostly don’t follow bloggers (Buggie or otherwise) that are under 18 and definitely not younger than my son… who turned 16 last October.

Not all of them are authors of course - because there are some really great blogs that aren’t fic writers that I would say are essential for the whole happy Bughead experience. For sure follow @amab1060 for all your Bughead/Riverdale related news. @jeemyjamz @bughead and @stark make the best edits. @stardustparker makes amazing aesthetics. @poorlydrawnriverdale is a freaking delight as is @gogenevieveart.

You’re specifically asking for Bughead Author blogs to follow? This is like an insane question because there are SO many. I make a habit about gathering around immensely talented fangirls when I join a fandom… and we have a LOT of super talented writers in the Bughead world - here is just a short list.
