Draco deserved Hermione's exasperated look. He'd asked a variant of that question all afternoon, and she'd answered it with a consistent probably. However, as Draco was mere moments away from his first attempt to enter the mirror, the amount of risk inherent in that answer no longer seemed acceptable.

A yes would have been ideal, though he also would have accepted a sound percentage. Something in the high nineties would have done nicely for his confidence. But the only numerical measure Hermione could provide was being one-hundred percent done with his waffling.

She stuck her wand through her bun and crossed her arms. "If you're too frightened to press your bloody hand against the glass, just say so and I'll do it!"

"I'm not frightened," he corrected with a sour look. "I'm cautious."

"We've been cautious all morning. We've run every diagnostic test in the book. The literal book!" She waved Curse-Breaking: A Mannerly Guide for Indecorous Situations beneath his nose. "The mirror didn't set off a single alarm. Not to mention that Mitchell is fine and has been for days. We agreed: this is the time to experiment. You go in today, and we all get one step closer to resolving this for good."

Draco looked between her and the mirror. Mitchell had placed his hand against the glass ten minutes ago, his expression growing ever more impatient.

"It doesn't hurt," he said.

As if that helped.

so, yes, i would absolutely, no questions asked, recommend Time and Tide. but this fic is not my typical dramione fic rec whatsoever. at 10 chapters and under 30k words, it is pretty short, so there's no slowburn there. their relationship builds pretty quickly, but not abruptly. hermione being a selkie is one of the biggest story points in this fic, which i loved. i don't feel like i see many creature!hermione fics, honestly. the most notable feature of this fic, though, is just the writing itself. i mean, it's beautiful. you can absolutely tell the author is a seasoned and talented writer. for a short fic, the characterization is great and the entire time i was practically screaming, "PLEASE WORK OUT PLEASE GET SAFE PLEASE BE HAPPY" at my kindle.

also, for the record, there are two endings to this fic. one is HEA, but one is not. both contain smut. i read both because of course i did. the non-HEA version felt a little rushed and...underbaked? i don't love criticizing the work that amazing fic authors do for free, but it is worth noting. if you are going to read one ending, i highly suggest the HEA one, not just for your own mental health, but also for the story. the HEA one isn't even totally HEA, so the edginess is still present!

There is no such ‘attachment’ to Granger. Sure, he knows the precise way to move his tongue inside of her to make her moan, the shape of her hip under his palm when he fucks her so hard they both see stars, and the exact pitch of her voice when she comes, but he’s not attached to her. This is the lie he tells himself.

Where do I post? 

Archive of Our Own and Fanfiction.net, although lately I haven’t posted on ff.net. I posted FWWL on Wattpad, I don’t know if I’ll post anything else there.

What are you working on now? 

I may or may not post that third epilogue to Blackmailed. I’d like to continue Draco’s Body, for another chapter. Long fic: I’m also working on Butterfly, my evil author’s day submission. And hopefully some more fanart for friends.

Are you writing any original fiction? 

No. I love my day job and fanfiction is purely an escapist outlet for my creativity where I am beholden to no one but myself. Writing original fiction would defeat the purpose.

Yes, sometimes! I post here on tumblr, and I post my art on AO3 and instagram. If anyone would like to use my art for their fic or binding they are welcome to. I only ask that you credit me.

Your parents really read your smut? 

Yes. Yes they did. It was a very wholesome experience and I live blogged it! My kids also know that I write fanfiction, everyone is very supportive. It feels good not to hide my hobby! (that being said, no one at my work knows, that’s a bridge too far)

Why don’t I see you on the Room of Requirement discord? 

Because some of the authors, artists, admins and podficcers there cyberbullied me. When I spoke up about my experience on reddit, I didn’t want to name specific people and I still don’t. But I do think there’s value in warning folks off in a general sense. It’s truly appalling when adult women use their internet clout and lack of consequences to recreate the worst of middle school behavior. Like most moderated spaces, RoR has an anti-bullying policy, but the popular members behave as they choose. None of them have apologized to me or anyone else for their behavior. If you’re wondering why there isn’t much overlap between DHS and RoR, this is why. Their behavior has caused many artists, writers and readers to delete their accounts or leave the fandom.

A Guide to My Fics 

Innovation, E, 18K, angry smut and snark. A short story written for @bek48 on her birthday. Full of snark, banter, sexual tension and hate sex. Skewers more than a few fandom tropes. 

Summary: Draco and Hermione make each other miserable. But they come to an arrangement eventually.

Escape From Malfoy Manor, E, 70-100K, Choose Your Own Adventure, war AU. An art/fic collaboration with @goodnight-fraublucher, @mysteriouscatstellation, @photonzeroinfinity, @efinna, @misdemeanor1331 and @bek48​

Summary: Hermione wakes up in a prison cell with no memory of how she got there. Will she make it out alive? A fic/art collab with some friends designed to make you laugh, shriek in terror, bite your nails, cringe, and ponder your life choices. With over 35 delightfully gruesome ways for our favorite protagonists to die, this is a great Halloween read.

Summary: Hermione convinces Draco to spy for the Order and she becomes his handler. But what are his true motivations? Hard to say when he's still figuring that out himself.

Summary: Draco finds out something pertaining to the war that Hermione would do anything to prevent from getting out. How far is she willing to go to protect her secret?

They All Taste the Same, E, 77K vampire war AU, this one has two endings, based on Hermione’s decision to become a vampire or not. One is MCD, one is HEA. Written in 2010, finished during the pandemic.

Summary: Draco has always wanted Hermione, but a recent change has him wanting her even more.

A Dish Best Served Cold, E, 56K, 8th year, smutty, trope-busting whodunnit, my first ever fanfiction, written in 2010. 

Summary: Somebody is out to get Hermione. Draco gets caught in the middle, and doesn't mind at all!

The Gods Must Be Crazy, drabble collection for the Last Drabble Writer Standing Competition, Greek God prompts, each drabble has a different theme, plot, topic, genre. I highly recommend this competition. It’s good for meeting new friends, and improving your writing!

Dramione Fics set during the war, in which Hermione ends up behind enemy lines and Draco comes to her rescue or protection in some fashion, while keeping up his ruse of loyal Death Eater.

To punish the Malfoys for their failures, Voldemort decides the best humiliation will be to “muddy” their pure blood line. After capturing Hermione, Voldemort orders Draco to marry her. Told in two time frames, first time frame during the war when Draco is forced by Voldemort to marry Hermione and second post-war, after Draco is released from Azkaban ... into the custody of his wife.

Undercover as an Order spy, Hermione takes a position at Malfoy Industries to garner as much information as she can for the Order. When Draco fires her, she makes him an offer he can’t refuse, but may be getting more in the deal than she realized.

A Slow and Cruel Descent by @senlinyu 

Draco’s POV. Voldemort is unable to break Hermione Granger, so he doses her with a love potion. The object of her affection: Draco Malfoy. Every time Voldemort threatens Draco harm, Hermione capitulates to his demands. This features a very slow warming of Draco. He is not a good guy in this, he values his self preservation above all else, but through watching Hermione’s suffering he finds it in himself to be the man she thinks she loves - “pretending” to love her back. (Their story continues in Hermione’s POV in A Fragile Ascent - set after the events of the war when they have to deal with what happened. Hermione might be recently locked in a cell in the Malfoy dungeon, but Draco’s been prisoner to a cage of his family’s making as long as he can remember. When Draco comforts Hermione one night, he realizes at least one of them might be able to escape. 

The Pretense by @colubrina 

Under the pretense that Draco is obsessively in love with Hermione, he orchestrates safe passage for Order members in exchange for her. Behind enemy lines, Hermione reaches an accord and tentative trust with Draco as they combat the dark regime from within while keeping up the pretense Draco devised. When feigning their love becomes less and less work, everyone wins - not just the Order. This is one of my favorite characterizations of Hermione. She is a solider of the Order, willing to fight ruthlessly playing her part, while Draco is her unexpected ally. Nice pacing and development of their relationship. Despite it’s length the author never lets the writing get lost in the weeds and is engaging throughout, delivering satisfying resolutions on all arcs. Well written. 

Opportunity Cost by @misdemeanor1331

Voldemort has seemingly won, but a resistance simmers beneath the surface. At a bar one night, Draco finds Hermione prostituting herself to survive and decides to hire her - not for the reasons she thinks. Inspired by Pretty Woman, but original to Dramione.

PAY ATTENTION TO THE TAGS, this fic will not be for everyone. Here are a few excerpts from the author’s note that sum this up: 

“Essentially the premise of this fic is about the trope of Draco being a (not-necessarily loyal) Death Eater who for some reason has to sexually assault/rape Hermione in order to protect her shortly after they first meet in the story.

... 

But, is it possible to write a fic that involves a sexual assault/rape shortly after they first meet in order to protect her, that doesn't taint the relationship that follows between them as per my standards? I'm sure it is, and I'm sure they've already been written, but this is my perspective on it.”

WIP to Watch

Part of Rights and Wrongs series. In the first two installments of the series (The Right Thing to Do & All the Wrong Things - check out the Post-war Healing post or Romance and Redemption post for reviews on them), Dramione is explored post-war in a world in which The Order won. The Auction is the third installment in the series and explores Dramione post-war in a world in which Voldemort had won the war. It’s six chapters from being complete and it will be amazing.

5 Underrated Dramione Fanfics

There are some fics that I don’t see recommended at the same rate as those in my top five list and fics like The Auction, Battle Scars, Gloriana Set, Isolation, etc. But they should be! Pretty sure they are all rated mature except for the first FYI. In no particular order:

Shifting Sands by @misdemeanor1331: Delightfully different storyline with flirty banter and a wonderful characterization of Hermione! If you want a fast read (it is ~20,000 words) that will make you smile, this is a good choice.

Hot For Teacher by MotherofBulls: Absolutely hilarious, very well written and sweet father son relationship. This is one of the only middle aged Dramione stories that I have liked so far (aka no infidelity and while the characters are different it is because they’ve grown/aren’t fighting for their lives).

Looking Glass by @kyonomiko: Original concept? Check. Some twists? Check. Incredibly well written? Check. Features dirty talk from cheeky portrait Draco? Check! Read it and the rest of the authors works! 

The Cell by WrathofMercy: Idk why this is not included on all lists all the time. Draco and Hermione get locked up in a cell together after the Malfoy Manor incident and have to learn to interact. A tad darker, but very well done. 

Seventy Times Seven | 70x7 by steeely: Unlike any marriage law fic I’ve ever read before, but likely the most accurate Hermione reaction to such a thing. Also war hero Draco and good background past war AU!
