Summary:

Excerpt: 

“So what’s your brilliant plan?” Cas asked, looking over at John, with a possessive arm over Dean’s shoulder. In the cramped cabin of his truck, Dean had to sit sandwiched between them. 

“Ice cream truck up ahead,” Dean murmured under his breath, with a note of hope. 

“We should make a pit stop, take a moment to regroup there,” Cas suggested. 

“We need to keep going,” John said. “Gotta get to the desert before nightfall, pick up supplies. The longer we’re out here unprotected, the worse off we’ll be if we get caught.” 

“Come on, it will only take a few minutes,” Cas argued. 

“We need to save the cash we have on hand.” 

“I’m sorry, ‘we’? That’s my hard-earned money you’re talking about,” Cas pointed out. “What did you bring, aside from this overcompensating eyesore of a vehicle?” 

“Well, I was kind of too busy taking fire and defending my home to grab anything else—where were you two?” John shot back. 

Cas returned his glare, unwavering. A slow, lewd smile spread across his face. “Do you really want me to answer that? Because I can and will go into detail.”

Dean slurped what was left of a popsicle—the cheapest thing on the dinky truck’s menu—off the stick with contentment. Cas ran a finger down Dean’s neck to catch a droplet of stray juice and licked it, grinning smugly at John. 

“Goddamn clown,” John muttered. “Makes me miss Hell.” 

Cas cackled. 

Dean leaned forward, turning up the music to drown them out before they started fighting again. 

“Well, sweet-a little sista’s high in Hell, cheatin’ on a halo!”

Thoughts: the return of my absolute favorite fic author. If I had the time to rec every single one of their works, I would.

Dean follows her with his eyes, “You have got to be fucking kidding me.”

Mary opens the fridge, digging through the shelves, pulling out tupperware. She spreads it out across the table, and then doubles back for plates. Silverware.

“This is just breakfast from yesterday,” Dean points out, “I made this.” He gestures at the food, and then winces.

“I made you.” Mary tells him, but he can see the tension in her eyes. “Eat.”

Thoughts: I’ve never seen a singular episode of Criminal Minds, but I’m somehow obsessed with reading crossovers. This story scratches my outsiders-POV itch like no other.

Becky tracked it—the disasters, the electrical storms, the cattle mutilations, the freak weather. 

It’s Halloween when Samhain rises. Even if Ava couldn’t feel it down to her infernal cells, even if she hadn’t been able to see it happening through Sam’s increasingly blackened eyes, Becky made for a great canary. 

She could sense something was off; her usual level of excitement and twitchy nervousness elevated to a palpable tension. Her nails curled around Ava’s thighs from where her head was pillowed, and it was from more than just fear from the horror movie on TV, or from a desire to be closer. 

“What’s wrong?” Ava asked innocently as she ran a hand through Becky’s wig—it was some terrible, choppy brown thing she’d been so excited to put on for her “Sam” costume. It caught in Ava’s fingers and slipped off as Becky sat up, making her dirty blonde hair tumble down. That was better. 

“I don’t know. Do you ever… do you ever get the feeling that something bad is happening? Like... do you think that things like psychics like in 'Supernatural' are actually real?” 

Ava tilted her head, pretending to consider the question. 

Becky sighed, laying back down. “Never mind. I’m probably just kidding myself.” Ava runs her hand through Becky’s hair, her mind teeming with possibilities. Was her blood actually doing something for Becky? Heightening the natural intuitions inside her? 

What else could it do?

“Hey, those girls kind of look like us, don’t they?” 

Ava watched as Ginger, bathed in blood and maniacal with power lust, crawled after Brigitte and tried to tempt her into seeing things her way. 

She couldn’t help but agree.

When Dean comes around, looking for Claire’s help in getting something that will help get Cas back from the Empty, he agrees to a quid pro quo.
