Rules:  List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less  than 20, just list them all). See if there are any patterns. Choose your  favorite opening, then tag 10 of your favorite authors!

1. A Formal Affair - Wayne knows there are benefits to having a public girlfriend.

3. Forecast Wet - Ten minutes after Metro Man's sodden departure, Crying Lightning rolling through the air...  

4. Clouds Out Gills Out - It was an open secret in Metro City that the rainy days were...quieter.

5. Wake Up Call - The low buzz of a vibrating phone broke the heavy darkness and Roxanne's hand groped clumsily for the screen, "What?" She asked roughly.

6. Please break me gently - Megamind makes it four steps into her apartment before he collapses.

On review I really like starting fics in media res or with a statement about a character. Starting mid action or with a clarifying sentence about

A lot of these lines are part of a bigger paragraph so not all the impact comes through with just the first sentence but for favourites I have to say 6. Please break me gently, just because you know immediately where he is, and that something has gone very wrong. Same with 11. No One calls you Honey Because they jump straight into action/aftermath of something we haven’t seen but can extrapolate on and things are going to get messy.

I will be continuing please break me gently at some point, I just have to get the next chapter together but I have a plan for that one...and maybe a little more of Honey too.

I’m curious if the first lines really grab people when they read them as that’s what my intention is but I don’t know if it works or people just stick with it until they know whats going on.

coffeebuddha replied to your post as i understand it, if it's in a collection then whoever controls the collection can make it private--so other people can't see your story--and also remove the author's name from the entry. i wouldn't trust one outside of like a secret santa exchange

Okay, see I remembered it being something weird. Or it’s good but it *could* get weird, and that was the problem. I don’t see why people can just add and tag to their bookmarks, or create ao3s just to make bookmarked collections. (What we used to do back in the day was make websites or livejournals just to rec fics. I know.)

I hope it’s not rude to reject the collection offer. Or, as I do, just ignore them.

treasure for treasure is the first one i read, so i’d agree with @vashti-lives​. the beings books can be a bit daunting to think about going back to the beginning.

I am not sure how many people actually read the Beings in the order they were written, except possibly people like @dlasta and @coffeebuddha who have been here since the beginning and so never got a choice. ha

It doesn’t really matter, although some small details might have less impact I suppose. 

I uh pity those who began with Little Wolf, though. That must have been an experience. Sorry bout it.

I don’t like being mean for the sake of being mean. I didn’t even like it back when I reviewed romance novels (They were het. They were mostly regencies. I was not paid. and my meanest review was for an author who used the word “bulbous” to describe a cock but like, meant it in a sexy way. Like. Bulbous head of his member. JUST SAY THE THICK HEAD OF HIS COCK. UGH. But oh that reminds me how much I hate euphemisms in romance novel sex scenes.)

But yeah I do think some of my frustration would boil over and I would end ranting about some stuff.
