Here is to 2025, allowing me more time to being on tumblr.
But also I may have done a thing a created an author blog on here as well, because even with the ups and downs and weird things tumblr does, I do like it here 🤣
So I hope even if I'm not writing as many marvel fics for the last few year I can get back to reading them at least.
#katie's queue of wonders#new year 2025#marvelreader#author blog coming#i would like to write more marvel but time is an issue

I think I underestimated how cool it is that Little House books are a "woman remembers her childhood" children's classic by an author from a working-class and rural background. Most working-class books of the genre have urban settings, and most rural girlhood classics come from a family that's in a fairly stable community--maybe not rich, but comfortable enough that they don't have to worry about whether they'll make it through a winter.
Laura Ingalls grew up dirt poor in a family that knew how to grow or build or hunt or make everything that they needed, because they had to. Yet when she grew up, she got into a position where she could publish about it. Which is pretty astounding, because people in her situation are usually too busy doing the farmwork to write about it--they don't have connections to the publishing industry. Yet she did, so we get to hear from someone who knows that farm and small-town setting intimately, and not because she grew up and and ran off to the city as soon as she could escape, but because she still lives it and loves it and advocates for it.
She knows the details of that life and loves it. Like, she genuinely cares about raising the chickens, not as a housewife's hobby, but as an important source of meat, eggs and money for the family. It's grounded, earthy, sensible, but also romantic, because she while she's doing farm work or house work she's noticing the little moments of beauty or thinking about the big issues of life. But it took a long series of coincidences to get this ordinary farm wife into a position of wanting to write, being able to write, and having a national audience for her writing, so I just want to appreciate how amazing it is that it happened.
#little house#laura ingalls wilder#of course now that i've said this i'll think of 157 other authors with similar backgrounds#but it's something that comes to mind a lot while reading her columns#especially in the '20s it's like reading her blog#specifically my blog#in the sense of the entries being 'here's an interesting thing i saw/heard about and here's the bigger issues it made me contemplate'#and her background means that she shouldn't have had an outlet for this but she did and that's pretty cool

Mdzs fandom: I've got an ironclad objective and unambiguous account of this event as it happened in canon.
Me: Is it actually unambiguous?
Fandom: I don't understand
Me: I want to know if you have an ironclad unambiguous objective account of an event, or an in-universe subjective interpretation where the truth is intentionally left up to speculation?
Fandom: I have the objective account
Me: you're sure? It's fine if you have a subjective interpretation.
Fandom: I have an objective unambiguous account. I do not have a subjective interpretation
Me: Alright! Please give me the objective account.
Fandom: Here you go. *hands me an in-universe subjective interpretation of something where the truth is intentionally left up to speculation*
#yeah man i'm sure that this one character's musings on this other character whom they don't know at all are objective truth.#you would think that the theme of not trusting rumours#would be especially clear to people when it comes to characters we as the audience never actually get to spend time with#or see things from their perspective#but for some reason those are the ones people feel most confident taking at face value#mdzs#complaining and whining about fandom#interpetration is GOOD it's FINE it's not like you can't think anything or choose to believe characters some times and not other times#i love interpretation i basically do nothing else on this blog#but when i see people go 'actually this is Clearly Exactly What Happened' for THE most obviously intentionally vague events i lose my mind#'this is ambiguous but based on what we have this is what i think is most likely' <- sure#'actually the author clearly WANTED us all to think [my opinion]' <- bites you bites you bites you

What do you think you add? Do you think you make a poignant post better when after scrolling down through it we see someone saying it's "official"?
I'm choosing to interpret this ask as a genuine question (albeit one that's been worded a bit rudely) instead of a hate anon, because I wouldn't want to tarnish people's dashboards with hate anons.
Now, to answer your genuine question... The "Discworld Heritage Post" tagline I add to the end of posts has as much validity as I have authority to bestow it: none. Do I think my tagline makes posts better? Of course not! And I certainly don't think I make them official, (and neither my url or my pinned post claim that I do so).
I don't know what reasons other people had to start their own Heritage Posts blogs for other fandoms, but I will gladly tell you mine: I got into Discworld. I discovered the Discworld fandom in Tumblr. And, one day, while scrolling down some Discworld related tags, the idea just popped into my head. After checking that there wasn't a Discworld Heritage Posts blog already, I decided to make one.
I personally follow a few Heritage Posts blogs, and my reason to do so is probably the same as to why many people follow this blog: I wanted to see that kind of content. Tracking tags and being up to date on the most popular posts of a fandom is doable, but doing so for the dozens upon dozens of media I'm into is impossible, so I like to follow some Heritage Posts blogs to get some of those posts directly into my dashboard (it's also worth mentioning that sometimes, some iconic posts are made when people comment stuff on them, and those don't appear in the search tags, so following blogs that post about a certain fandom is the best way to come across some of those collaborative posts, because otherwise you'd rarely get to see them). So yes, I created a blog that, had it already existed, I would have liked to follow. Also, while other blogs with this gimmick usually limit themselves to reblogging, let's call them the "greatest hits", I've said since the beginning that I didn't care about how many notes something had. Be it cool art or a funny or insightful post, if I like it, I send it to my drafts.
However, none of those reasons are the main reason why I made this blog. The main reason is that I did it for myself. After exhausting all the content that showed up in the Popular Posts tab, I couldn't help but think of all the gold and treasure that wasn't there, buried and hidden due to the way Tumblr's search engine works. If you're familiar with the Discworld concept of "lies-to-children", that's what the "top posts of all time" is in Tumblr. A 20k post from 2016 will not be there, but a six month old post with 400 notes will show up. Surely there had been amazing Discworld posts and art posted in 2015 and 2013, but I wasn't going to find most of them unless I expressly went looking for them. And this blog was the perfect excuse to do so. As of replying to this ask, there's nearly 600 posts sitting in my drafts, and if I didn't have this blog I would have never discovered 90% of them. And those are the ones I've seen. I still have dozens of places I haven't searched.
I know that if I reblog a month old post with over 2k notes, a lot of people in the fandom will have already seen it. However, a 2k notes post from 2014, or a drawing with 40 notes from 2012 is something that is less likely to have hit people's dashes recently, or at all. When you come across the "Discworld Heritage Post" tagline in a post, please don't picture me as an uppity monarch performing the Tumblr equivalent of a knighting ceremony, or a stuffy museum curator deigning a piece worthy of being included in an exhibition. Picture me as a kid enthusiastically jumping and flailing my arms around while yelling "holy shit guys check out what I just found!!", because that's how I feel running this blog.
Ultimately, whether one of my posts does better or worse is indifferent to me, because they aren't my posts, or memes, or drawings. I'm just the intermediary. That being said, of course it's not indifferent to me, because more engagement means that was a post many people hadn't seen before, or had forgotten about, and one of my goals was to run a blog that would allow people to find those hidden or long forgotten gems.
When all is said and done, Heritage Post blogs are just another one of Tumblr's gimmicks. If we're not your cup of tea, you're free to ignore or block us. If you want to reblog something and don't want the tagline, you can reblog it directly from OP (or from another reblog if OP has deactivated their account).
#long post#THAT BEING SAID#I've seen people being very exited about something they made showing up in this blog and calling it an honor and stuff like that#and to those people I say: I see you and your lovely tags and my heart warms when I read them#i might not have any real authority besides a self imposed gimmick in a nearly defunct social media platform#but if seeing your stuff here makes you happy and proud those feelings are valid and I want you to treasure them#a lot of things only have the meaning we ascribe to them and my tagline might not hold any official meaning#but it does mean something VERY IMPORTANT:#that I saw your post and I loved it and I reblogged it to make sure other people could also find it and love it#I need to come up with a tag for asks don't I? ok how about#asked and answered#dhp's asks#discworld

I saw the tv glow and turned it’s brightness up.
I was happy to see that other people’s tv’s also glowed, but I noticed that my tv was a different shade than theirs. Soon after that, I noticed that my tv was a completely different colour. It was a deep green, turning into white, turning into grey, turning into black.
I turned the brightness of the tv down, but left it just enough to always play in the background, like a little song in the back of my brain that I can’t remember the words of.
I never saw a person whose tv had the same colour as mine and it made me feel like no one would appreciate it. It was quite an interesting colour; I did plenty of research on it, but the people who did have their tv that colour never really got to be a real part of society.
I turned the brightness up again this year—not by a lot, just a bit to make out the colours—and while looking at it, I realised something. If I were to let my tv glow, it would mean never truly feeling a part of this world.
Love was such a big part of a person’s life. So why didn’t I feel any of it? I loved my friends, I loved my family, I loved my pets. Why wasn’t I cable of loving on another level? Why didn’t romance strike me as this beautiful thing rather than this tedious chore? I wanted to rip my heart out—why wasn’t it feeling things like the other hearts felt them? Why didn’t it speed up and the sight of a pretty woman or handsome man? Why did it just pump my blood and not my feelings?
If I were to let my tv glow, it would mean embracing who I truly am. But I don’t know who I truly am. And I haven’t known for a really long time.

to be quite honest. shipping with CANON (not headcanoned) exclusively gay/lesbian characters as someone of the gender they are explicitly not attracted to is a form of erasure and lowkey homophobic. 'just make them bi' is a bad take. bi people are amazing and valid but not everyone is bisexual??? 'theyre not real' is a bad take bc representation matters and i feel like that doesnt really need to be said. obviously the character isnt real and isnt offended but gay/lesbian selfshippers can see how much you dont gaf abt their identities. gay people exist in real life too!!! homophobia is still so acceptable in fandom spaces and its kinda wild.
Actually this one gets to skip the queue because we just had another anon push their luck about this. I WAS originally going to leave this in queue but now feels like a better time to nip this in the bud.
This is the LAST thing I'm saying about this topic because frankly it's the majority of what we've been getting recently and it's exhausting. All future asks about this topic WILL be deleted. AS STATED ABOVE. DO WHAT YOU WANT FOREVER. YOUR EXPERIENCE IS YOURS AND YOURS ALONE.
TAKING POTSHOTS AT EACH OTHER IS NOT A CONFESSION.
THAT'S CALLED BEING AN ASSHOLE.
k thanks bye
#No offense to this anon or any of the prevs but I'm just so fucking tired of this topic. and so are other mods. seriously. drop it. now.#signed an agender lesbian in real life that's main f/o is just some guy. trust me when i say we don't actually care that much. not that dee#other queer selfshippers: if you're bothered by someone minding their own business. please for the love of EVERYTHING just block them.#if they're actively going out of their way to bother you or ACTIVELY SAYING SOMETHING BIGOTED THEN YES THAT'S AN ISSUE#but if they're just. sitting there. they're fine. block and move on I IMPLORE. LIKE SERIOUSLY. COME ON NOW.#For all you fucking know this could be someone's gateway into figuring out their own identity. we talk constantly about the sexuality aspec#but the amount of people I've seen figure out their GENDER because they selfshipped with someone that 'wouldn't normally be into them' is#frankly not a number you can just ignore. like are we forgetting 'fujoshi' culture that a lot of trans people found themselves from???#Seriously. I'm at a loss for words and frankly just disappointed. Considering officially blacklisting this because this is NOT worth it.#*deep. can you TELL I'm fucking tired of this?#already had one person try to start shit about 'not REALLY being gay/lesbian' because of selfshipping with an opposite gender character#I am NOT tolerating that shit on this blog. NONE of us will.#genuinely if something possess you to try and place yourself as an authority on OTHER PEOPLE'S IDENTITIES. *TOUCH. GRASS.* I AM SO SERIOUS.#LITERALLY NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. QUEER PEOPLE IRL: HEY MAN HOW'S IT GOING.#<< HEY BTW IF YOU SENT THAT AND/OR THE SECOND ASK ABOUT THAT COUNT YOUR LUCKY STARS WE'RE FAR MORE FORGIVING AND YOU'RE NOT IP BLOCKED YET.#Literally please grow up and learn from this. Talk to LITERALLY any other queer people outside of your bubble for fucks sake.#skips the queue#THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE POSTED LATER TODAY. CAN WE PLEASE GO MORE THAN 2 SECONDS?!

“The Moon Warrior,” Marvel 85th Anniversary Special (Vol. 1/2024), #1.

Katniss should have killed Rue.
It would have been a mercy, of course, but she would never be able to publicly acknowledge it that way. The Capitol can't let the districts get along. that's how a revolution starts.
I'd be interested to see how they end up playing it, though. Killing her friend because she had no choice? Betrayal? Either way it would make her Capitol Persona much more interesting, and her inner conflict too.
How would District 11 take it? Do they believe the Capitol's angle of the story? Do they understand it was a mercy?
yeah exactly it would be much more interesting that way! the whole apparent point of the games is that they're awful and force the kids in them to do awful things. katniss being forced to deliver a mercy kill to a mortally wounded friend would bring up all sorts of interesting concepts around mercy, violence, and coercion, and like you said it would have interesting longstanding impacts!
district 11 having complex feelings on it also interests me because there's no way that this is the first time they've had to (at bare minimum) hold victory parties and such for a victor who has personally killed the kids from their district. the impression the book wants to give of the games is that everyone is culturally desensitized to the events that happen within. it happens yearly, it's awful, everyone tries their best to pick up and move on. so would the mere possibility of it being genuine kindness break through that desensitization?
#hunger games blogging#actually thinking about it i wish the book reckoned a lot more with cultural impact#katniss thinks back on past games with complete detachment. which would be interesting if intentional but it comes across#like the author didn't think at all about how impact can be felt even if a pov character is detached#people in her community die every year in the games. district 12 seems to be very small#she must have known at least a few dead tributes at least in passing? its 2 per year and theres only so many kids at Coal School#and everyone knows someone who had a loved one die in the games. what would that do to a community?#it ends up feeling a lot like the past games don't exist which is a big problem.#also youre telling me theres never been a star crossed lovers gambit or a friendship between districts????

It's absolutely a me thing, probably, but people who say that they hate an author and have the time to reiterate it endlessly but continues to support their work- without ever crediting the good part of the writing that makes them a fan to begin with- irks me so goddamn much.
An author and their work is very intrinsically tied together. They write their beliefs of the world in the text, their sociopolitical stance practically bleeds out from the pages. Of course this isn't the case when you're making a comic or book/any form of media for the sake of it being disturbing, but the point is, I need people to understand that an artist's work is an extension of themselves and you need to respect that especially if it's a work that you love and connect with.
#as someone who's work got toyed with like its nobody's business I need to emphasize on the importance of-#an artist's work that they give time and effort into sharing. HEAVY EMPHASIS ON EFFORT.#this comes from a place of “what. so an artist's property means nothing if it becomes too popular?” that spiraled and so i needed to vent#this is a one piece blog and maybe im talking about Oda and fans of his work but its really every damn piece of media you choose to consume#“i hate this author & how they portray this” and you'd make paragraphs of criticism (which is incredibly valid!) but in the same discussion#i seldom see “this was done well” “this scene was incredible” being attributed/credited as being due to the author's effort and creativity#if you hate the way it was done then its the authors fault but if you love it then you're not giving them praises for it#< something like that#rambles#this is my take on a select few fans mind you#i just hate it when people call someone stupid and still have the gal to say oh i love the work but not the “stupid” person behind it#be more empathetic. seriously#anyways !!respect an artist's work!! thats *their* property and *their* time and effort and if you hate it so much-#then don't engage with it. simple as.
