How to get your curls back... ⠀ ⠀ For years I straightened my hair to make it easier to style. I also bought into the lies that said straight hair was more “professional”. ⠀ ⠀ Let’s clear things up. Hair discrimination is real and oftentimes that bias is internalised and we don’t realise it. Curly hair is professional. ⠀ ⠀ So when you want to start loving your hair after heat styling it for a long time, your curls may take a bit of time to bounce back. ⠀ ⠀ Here’s what to do:⠀ ⠀ 1. Hydration is key⠀ ⠀ Your hair has been through a lot, so start weekly deep conditioning treatments. Also I’d do a set of @khairpep @khairpepaustralia to help repair your hair.⠀ ⠀ 2. Get a haircut⠀ ⠀ If those treatments aren’t showing effects on your ends, you probably need a haircut. Don’t be afraid of cutting off the damage. You’ll feel so much lighter without those dead ends hanging around.⠀ ⠀ 3. Switch up your routine⠀ ⠀ Your old straight routine won’t work for curls. Switch your towel for an old tshirt, change to a sulphate-free shampoo and always use leave-in conditioner. Start applying curl styling products to wet hair too. ⠀ ⠀ 4. Keep a hair diary⠀ ⠀ Take photos and make notes of what you did to your hair - especially if it’s a bad hair day! You’ll think you’ll remember, but photos and notes really help. Even just snap a pic of the products you used. Come back and thank me later for this tip 😉⠀ ⠀ 5. Learn some simple styles⠀ ⠀ Not every wash will work out but that’s ok - you’re learning. Having a couple of quick braids or updos that you can do will save any bad hair day. ⠀ ⠀ I was going to put be patient but I hate that advice! Ok so I was hesitant to do these again because some people took it wayyy too seriously, but I find them interesting and a bit of fun! 😝 6 months ago I did a bunch of #foundation like this and I've decided to re do some and to add 6 new foundations in for those like me found it interesting! Let me disclaim, firstly - you skin is not paper, we all know that and what is soaking into the paper isn't always bad "oil" as in the kind we try and avoid - what this is showing is what oiler product (good or bad!) is attaching itself to the paper (similar to if you were using blotting paper) - if you are using one of these foundations and it's not working for you maybe it's time to switch things up! Look at how they have reacted and try one which reacts differently! This is all just a bit of fun - don't take it too seriously and try before you buy if you can! Everyone will react differently to foundation because we don't have identical skin!
