The Creative Process and Risk Taking
Creativity is something deep and meaningful and can be expressed in thousands of ways, but putting your work on display for everyone to judge and criticise can be extremely vulnerable.
Early in my second semester of university we were given a lecture on creativity and failure. As students I think we’re desperate to be the best that we can be but forget we’re still students. There is so much we don’t already know, and part of the process is try, fail, and try again. Within this lecture we looked at Erik Kessels, particularly his book, ‘Failed It!’ (2016) where he talks about how perfection isn’t a good starting point. If you have nothing to improve, then what’s the point in creating? Nothing will instantly be perfect, and it's human nature to fail. To quote Kessels, “Avoiding mistakes and playing it safe results in shining swirling works of meh.”
In Austin Kleon’s book (2012), ‘Steal Like an Artist’ he compares ideas to genetics. Rather than coming up with something totally original, you draw ideas from your inspiration, evolving the ideas into something more personal. This is because everything has already been made, and a lot of creatives feel this pressure to be completely original, including myself, when it’s almost impossible. Instead of trying to put this unattainable goal in our way, we should be ‘shaped and fashioned by the things we love.’ (Goethe) It allows us to create new, equally inspiring pieces that also serve as love letters to those who inspire you. There is a reason these ideas inspire you, if there is a connection, pursue it.
Around 2012, the Jim Henson Company wanted to create a project based on ‘The Dark Crystal.’ There were many stages of trial and error that lead to the final product. Initially the idea for the show was to create a blend of practical and CGI effects, the Skeksis being puppets, and the Gelfling CGI. The team created a test to see whether this concept would work, and sure enough it didn’t quite have the right look. Instead of cutting the CGI effects altogether, they went all in, creating an entire series filled with nothing but puppetry, but also utilising CGI to add more lifelike movements to their faces, allowing the characters to fully express themselves beyond what puppetry could. Without these tests and failures, the show wouldn’t have worked nearly as well. A product inspired by the creativity of many artists and filmmakers and their creative risks.
Learning as a creative can be vulnerable, but regular feedback, a willingness to improve with inspiration and influence is crucial to your development. It’s important to keep creating, no matter how small or imaginative the projects are, as long as you’re learning with each creation and listening to those who are willing to help, you will gain the confidence within your skills and ideas. Testing ideas and adapting from what works and what doesn’t is what makes you creative.
Working With Actors
Actors are such a crucial element of films. Without actors, there would be a limit on the stories we could tell and how they’re told. I have found that it is essential to build your relationship with actors to develop your best work.
During a workshop held with a couple of actors, we were able to walk through the process of auditions and how they work. As a child actor myself, I am no stranger to the process of auditions and just how intimidating they are. It can be vulnerable having your performance scrutinised in front of an audience. Helping us to understand the anxiety of actors during auditions, we put ourselves in their shoes. We walked through a simulated audition with a ‘Director’ and ‘Camera Assistant’ who would judge us based on our skill. Despite having acting experience, I still found it difficult and felt nervous during the exercise, especially when it came to receiving feedback. What did help, however, was the attitude of the ‘Director’.
Sally Porter (2014) emphasizes the importance of the relationship between actors and directors, helping your actors feel as comfortable as possible throughout the process. During an audition, actors' nerves are at their highest. Porter suggests turning an audition into something more engaging rather than a brief performance, creating an environment where you converse with your actor, creating a small exercise that opens them up. It allows you to see more than just the performance, but rather the person and their potential beyond the nerves. After an audition, its courteous to thank them, and always get back to them. They’re still people, and even if they weren't the fit for this job, they may be perfect for another.
Director Greta Gerwig has gained a lot of recent attention, and when looking at how she works with her actors it’s no surprise as to why. Gerwig’s work on Ladybird, as seen in the film’s DVD special features (Lorem 2023), Greta holds a close relationship with each actor. Instead of taking full control of each decision they make, she offers them resources that she believes helps add depth to the characters, and lets them decide whether they want to take that on board. I also love how she encourages actors to incorporate parts of themselves into their work by drawing elements of their personalities and adding it to their characters. I find this helps to immerse an actor and work together to create an authentic performance.
Take the time to get to know your actors. It can be just as, if not more nervous for them when presenting their work, especially if their performance is emotional or challenging, so making sure they’re comfortable is incredibly important. Actors are your colleagues, and the industry runs on collaboration, so work together to create the project all of you are passionate about. There is a difference between constructive criticism and being rude and unhelpful, and we should always be mindful of this.
Group Dynamics
Working in any industry requires a high standard of communication and teamwork, especially in TV and Film. This is due to how collaborative everyone should be, merging all their skills and creativity to make a film that flows and achieves the vision of the director. All departments must work together and communicate clearly for the final product to work, not without great challenges, of course.
During a workshop, we were given an example of how much a lack of communication can cause a production to deteriorate. We were separated into groups and given different roles, each with our own motivations, complaints, and how we need our individual issues to be resolved. Our issues ranged from disagreements with colleagues, wanting to do our jobs to the best of our abilities, budgeting concerns, and even the consideration of firing people within our group. As a result, our film wasn’t in the best shape. Thus began our diplomatic conversations to resolve our problems for the sake of the film. I worked as a sound designer who was dissatisfied with the conditions on set, as there were too many extras, meaning the sound came across as echoey and too loud. I wanted to get the producer fired for hiring too many people. I discussed my thoughts with the director as well as my producer on my feelings and how these issues had been affecting my work, and each of us tried to work around the conditions of the task.
In the end we ran out of time before we could come to an agreement, however it was such a beneficial exercise, and put into perspective how communication is the backbone of any project or working environment. A lot of the issues we were given in the scenario were almost entirely a result of our ‘characters’ poor communication, resulting in petty disputes between departments, leading to major incidents that affected the quality of work. Honthaner (2013) says that ‘efforts made to collaborate on shared common objectives, enhanced by a mutual respect for one another, will inspire the cooperation and loyalty of the cast and crew, will be helpful in promoting a pleasant working environment and will favorably influence your schedule and budget.’
Film is an art form, as well as a business. It’s impossible to expect production to run smoothly without communication. Similarly to how film production works, Digital Theatre+ (2023) explains how an audience sees the final product, the result of work made by a team of collaborators. It takes the work of many departments to provide all the elements needed, such as costumes, lighting, makeup, cameras, set design, props, sound, acting, and so on. Working with a team is a way to create something you could not create on your own (Digital Theatre+, 2023). It’s vital to listen to what everyone has to say and engage with ideas that arise instead of dismissing them. There is no role that is expendable.

Parasocial relationships with celebs and fandoms have obviously existed for a long time this is not something borne out of this generation. The major difference is that because of the lack social media in previous generations celebs were able to separate themselves from fandoms there was a clear line between celeb and fan. Nowadays to an extent that has been broken because of how much access fans have to celebs the way the get minute to minute updates of there favs. As mentioned earlier by an anon there are now more spaces in which stans can come together and engage in these pointless fandom wars.
Social media has always been a double edged sword for public figures. You need it build your fanbases but once you've built it you lose a sense of privacy and can def be very stressful of having to constantly update them about your life. But like everything there is a tipping point and its clear tom, timmy, zendaya, keke, austin, florence and many others have realized that there are things they need to protect, theres only so much you can give. Many have stepped back the accesible personas they once built and now have utilized social media for strictly business purposes and started to create boundaries.
Celeb culture as changed so much that anyone can be a celeb (tik tok stars, influencers, streamers etc) that I think the allure of celeb that existed in previous generations is slowly giving out.
Zendaya is clearly a superstar (americas sweetheart) no doubt but that allure that once existed I feel has kinda of disappered.
Paul newman, pam grier, denzel, tom cruise , joanne woodward, aubrey hepburn, roc hudson, julia roberts, marilyn monroe robert redford , sidney porter tina turner etc like the air of mystery, the shock and awe they used to bring to red carpets the gossip,the drama, and excitement just doesnt feel like it exists anymore.
I totally agree w/ALL of this anon.

^^THIS!!! I think at first social media used to be awesome for both fans AND celebs, and maybe it even provided some celebrities with that temporary "high" feeling of having so many fans worshipping you and "liking" your pictures and whatnot... But like so many things in this industry, there's a bittersweet aspect to it, and I feel like fans kind of overstepped their boundaries long time ago. I think many celebrities realized that there needs to be a clear demarcation line now. SM started becoming toxic.
You know the saying, "You give them an inch, they will take a mile..." lol. 😅
But like everything there is a tipping point and its clear tom, timmy, zendaya, keke, austin, florence and many others have realized that there are things they need to protect, theres only so much you can give. Yep! 💯% agree with this. You can just tell that many are slowly but surely stepping back some from social media, or just completely giving it up altogether. It's obviously affected the mental and emotional health of many, and I think that's why some just use SM as an advertisement for their work now days, and not much more. 🤷🏾♀️
Even Tom has admitted on several occasions that he's needed to take a step back from social media and just focus on HIMSELF. I wouldn't be surprised if many of his acting peers feel the same way.
I can't even imagine what it must feel like to have the WORLD looking at you.....let alone saying whatever they want to say to you on social media. It's crazy. 🥴😔
Celeb culture as changed so much that anyone can be a celeb (tik tok stars, influencers, streamers etc) that I think the allure of celeb that existed in previous generations is slowly giving out.
Sooo true.... 😓
Zendaya is clearly a superstar (americas sweetheart) no doubt but that allure that once existed I feel has kinda of disappered.
I agree. There will ALWAYS be some "super stars" out there, but I totally feel like that "air of mystery" that many celebrities of yesteryear used to have has all about gone. Now, people these days OVERshare lol...And it's like...did anybody even ask?? 🥴 I think some feel like they HAVE to share everything on SM in order to stay "relevant", but you really don't.
Celebrities existed W/OUT social media, and they will continue to do so.
💯
THIS!
I feel though that some fans are so used to things being so transparent and accessible with their faves these days that they throw tantrums or expect/demand them to be posting.... But ummm...they really don't owe you anything but their WORK product tbh.
I almost feel like celebrities are gently having to train their fans to just expect the least from them again lol. 😅

Denver is just better than the Lakers
LOS ANGELES - For the Los Angeles Lakers, playing the world champion Denver Nuggets must feel like a recurring bad dream. They have now lost seven consecutive postseason games to Denver, and every time they play, you can squint and imagine you are watching a replay of the previous game. This matchup has run its course. The Nuggets are simply a better team than the Lakers. They have the best player in the series, Nikola Jokic, and a better head coach. On both ends of the floor, they do everything better as a team than the Lakers. Los Angeles has continuously hit Denver with its best shot, but it is not enough every time. Second half starts now ? pic.twitter.com/EqCKsLk5B0— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) April 26, 2024 "They do not have a weakness offensively, especially their starting lineup. They have been one of the best-starting fives in our league over the last couple of years," said LeBron James. "It is definitely one of the better teams I have played against in my career." This is not the same team the Lakers beat in 2020 on their way to the championship. That team did not have Aaron Gordan or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Michael Porter Jr. was a rookie coming off the bench, and Nikola Jokic had yet to evolve into the most unstoppable player in the NBA. Los Angeles has led at the half in all three games during this series, and even when trailing, it always feels like Denver is in the driver's seat. Once the Lakers go up by double digits, it feels like the Nuggets have them right where they want them. "I think they are a little more locked in than we are when we come out of the half, and we have seen Denver throughout the year. They take advantage of every opportunity," said Gabe Vincent. The Lakers started game 3 on an 8-0 run, and Anthony Daivs scored 10 points in the first four minutes, but as the game went on, Los Angeles steadily declined in every category while Denver ascended to a near-perfect level of play. First 8 belong to us ?? pic.twitter.com/D2wvQd5MmX— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) April 26, 2024 Davis has been great in this series, scoring at least 32 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in every game. James is holding up his end, with at least 26 points and eight assists in all three contests. Neither of the Lakers stars has had an off night, and they still can not buy a win. In game 1, James tried to attack early and be a playmaker late. He took the opposite approach in game 2, setting up his teammates first and scoring 12 points in the fourth quarter. In game 3, he took what the defense gave him. None of these strategies resulted in a victory. "I think Dever is just beating us, to be honest. You can talk about adjustments, you can talk about this and that, but at the end of the day, we got to put our best foot forward and win basketball games. You can talk about everything else, but at the end of the day, you gotta man up and go win," said Austin Reaves. Jamal heatin' up ? 20 PTS / 3 REB / 6 AST pic.twitter.com/WbLiPjM8h1— Denver Nuggets (@nuggets) April 26, 2024 The most frustrating part for Los Angeles is that they have never been blown out during any of the seven playoff losses and are only losing by an average of six points per game. It feels like they are so close, but in reality, they are so far away from being able to beat this team in a seven-game series. "Our focus right now is to try to get one. Try to get a game and then go from there," said Davis. Denver is the best team in the NBA for a reason. The Lakers will look to avoid being swept for a second straight season on Saturday, but the Nuggets are too good for the Lakers to come back and make this a series. foreign language | n.m blurb
author’s note: I enjoy writing little blurb like that way too much. The French part is real french since it’s my native language and I tried to translate it the better way! Btw I do take requests so slide them in & if you wanna be friends just dm me I guess lmao. Anyway hope you’ll enjoy it xo
words count: 0,5k+
warnings: cursing; pure fluff
“Stop talking to me in french y/n.. You know damn well i can’t understand a thing” The brunette boy start saying.
You knew that talking to Nick in french would do nothing else but trigger him. When you were mad at him, wanted his attention or wanted to annoy him, it was the first thing you would start doing. You were bilingual english/french since your mother was french and your father american. You had been going to France every year on summer holidays for the longest you could remember and that’s how you practiced your french. Your french wasn’t as perfect as someone who would be living in France 24/7 but it still was ok. You understand it pretty well and could hold a conversation pretty easily. Back then you were quite insecure with your french because it wasn’t perfect as your friend’s one and you had an accent but your french friends always told you that your french was perfect so you became more and more confident while speaking french with others.
“Et donc? C’est pas comme si tu m’écoutais de toute façon” [trad : And? It’s not like you’ve been listening to me anyway]
“Oh fuck off man!”
And now Nick was pissed. Seeing him like that made you giggle a little cause you knew it wouldn’t last long. Nick, next to you, put his airpods on, going back to what he was doing on his phone previously. You just got up from the sofa you were sitting in and went to the kitchen of his shared house with the other member of his boyband. You were getting yourself a bottle of water in the fridge when a voice surprised you.
“Yo y/n, why is Nick all mad?” Edwin’s big voice made you let out a little scream. “Did i scared you? Oh my god i’m sorry.” The boy lightly laughed at your reaction.
“It’s ok, it’s ok” You giggled “He’s just mad because i been talking to him in french.. But you know he’s just sitting there with his airpods on, not answering any of my questions so i had to annoy him a little”
Edwin rolled his eyes and let out a sigh at your explanation thinking it would have been something way more serious before you left the kitchen. You went back sitting next to Nick, him being still tense from you speaking to him in french. You leaned in next to his hear and took off his right airpod which cause the music to stop.
“Tu boudes encore?” [trad : You still mad at me?]
“I said fuck off y/n” Nick said while pushing you slightly away from him not even bothering taking back his airpod.
“Nick i was kidding...” You whined brushing his hand off and making your way back close to him.
“Mon coeur?” [trad : My heart?] You tried knowing that he liked when you were calling him that way. You kissed his cheek gently, then continued making your way to his lips when you weren’t getting any reaction to all those kisses. A smiled formed on his lips when you reached his with yours, making you smile too.
“You’re such a cry baby” You giggled pulling yourself away from him.

hesitate (z.k)
prompt: loosely based off the song ‘hesitate’ by jonas brothers
requested: uhh kinda, prompt given to me by @cnco-much *kinda got carried away with the single prompt, so i’m sorry if it’s not what you wanted but hope you like it nonetheless*
warnings: none
smoke hung in the air of his room as you lay on zion, your head rested on his lap, braids pulled up into an incredibly disheveled bun. the two of you scrolled on your phones, a blunt hanging in his free hand. you broke your stare on your phone to glance up at the boy, staring in admiration as he dragged a heavy breath in. your tongue darted out to your lips as he closed his eyes, allowing the smoke to escape his mouth as his eyes slowly opened. he dropped his chin to his chest, his eyes locking with yours, causing a hazy smile to spread across your lips.
‘hi’ you spoke softly, both of your eyes hooded as you held the glance. you watched as his gaze drifted from your eyes, to your lips and continued to float around your face, his lips parted slightly. you hummed in question, his eyes snapping back to yours.
‘i love you’ it was random, it was immediate and it was the first one. those three words were enough to sober you up as you sat up, subconsciously scooting down the bed. you smiled in disbelief, shaking your head slightly before taking your hair down, solely to put it back up. you laughed quietly to yourself, wrapped a chunk of braids around the rubber band to finish it off, now rubbing your hands down your thighs.
‘you’re kidding’ you shrugged, seeming as if you were trying to convince yourself of his actions. your reaction in itself caused him to sit up against the headboard and rub his eyes harshly, forcing himself to sober up. he furrowed his eyebrows, leaning towards you, one hand suspended in the air in surrender. his other hand came down to rest on your knee, his hand cool against your rising body heat.
‘hey,’ you kept your head down, continuing to shake your head until he lifted his hand off your knee to grip your chin carefully. your eyes stayed down but he continued to talk to you. ‘i’m not kidding, and you don’t have to say it back’ he dipped his head lower to lock eyes once more, ‘you don’t have to say it back, and that’s okay’ you bit your tongue, confused as he explained, the words seeming foreign linked together.
you raised your head, eyes still slightly watery from the high and you relaxed, leaning forward to rest your head on his shoulder. you sighed softly as his hand came to brace the back of your neck, drifting down to your back at times.
‘i can’t say it back’ you mumbled, taking note of how he didn’t pause, he didn’t tense up, but just placed a kiss on your neck before shrugging.
‘and that’s all good, don’t be scared’ he pulled away from you, music still playing quietly as he leaned in to press a chaste kiss on your lips, both of you smiling softly. ‘aye’ his trademark smirk toyed on his lips, his dimples poking out, ‘i’m on your side’. you both left it at that, simply laying back down as he turned trippie up, head banging as he rolled one more.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a few months passed, the two of you still committed, but you were still scared. scared of not knowing whether he would get tired of saying those words with no response more than a shy smile or kiss. the two of you were back in his head, the credits of inside out playing on his computer. he had an arm thrown around your shoulder and he glanced down as he felt you shaking slightly, laughing loudly as tears fell down your face. you rolled your eyes and slapped his chest, causing him to recoil, bracing his hands to protect himself.
‘bruh chill!’ he laughed, spazzing out slightly as he did so. you sloppily wiped at your cheeks with his sweatshirt sleeve that hung off your hands, pushing your body into his.
‘leave me alone’ you groaned, ‘he just wanted riley to go to the moon.’ you pouted, crossing your arms with a huff. he looked down at you, rolling his eyes before wrapping his arms around your shoulders, pulling you into him. you stuck your head out in the opposite direction, stifiling a laugh as he huffed and stood off the bed completely. you turned to face where he stood at the end of the bed, letting out a yell s he tackled you into the bed. he showered kisses into your face, pulling helpless laughs out of you as you shuffled under his hold. you attempted to stop laughing as he hovered above you, the corners of his mouth turning up. you searched his eyes, he shifted so he rested on his forearms, his face right above yours as your hands ran up and down his sides.
your smile got softer as he laughed giddily above you, a smug look on his face, knowing he had won the little battle you had. you swallowed, blinking slowly before smiling back at him as he rested his lips on your forehead.
‘i love you’ you held a laugh back as he froze, his lips still on your skin. he looked down at you after pulling back, pushing his nose against yours.
‘say it again’ you smiled, biting your bottom lip softly. you laughed loudly as he rolled over, pulling you on top of him. you grabbed the sides of the his face squeezing his cheeks together, smiling as his lips popped out. you kissed his puckered lips pulling back to look him directly in the eyes.
‘i love you caleb’ he smiled toothily, leaning up to meet your lips again. you two laid together another disney movie playing, but you couldn’t care less, sharing quiet ‘i love you’s’ as you drifted off.

Halloween Madness - Brandon A.
Salem is a makeup artist. Brandon and his band are her newest clients. What could go wrong, right?
Warnings: gets suggestive, cursing
Word count: 3380
A/N: this will have more parts when I get around to writing them
~~~
I was setting up everything I would need to paint whoever’s face(s) I would be doing today when the door opened and some people entered.
“Boys, this is the makeup artist that will be turning you into monsters for tonight’s performance. Her name is Salem Santos.” The man said to the five boys that had come in after him. I smiled at them and stepped away from my kit so I could greet them.
“You can call me Sal. Nice to meet you all.” They all smiled and a couple waved. I glanced at the older man and he rolled his eyes.
“Are you going to introduce yourselves? She’s not a mind reader. She doesn’t know your names.” The older man left the room with a head nod in my direction. The blonde's eyes widened and almost tripped over himself to shake my hand.
“I’m Austin Porter.” He said, shaking my hand. I smiled at him and then shifted my eyes to the tallest of the group.
“Zion Kuwonu.” The tallest said.
“Nick Mara.” Said the one with a heavy jersey accent.
“Edwin Honoret.” The tan one said.
“¿Eres de la República Dominicana?” I asked and he nodded.
“Sí. ¿Tú?” He asked.
“Brazil,” I said and Edwin nodded with a smile. I looked over at the final boy who was just staring at me. I tilted my head and raised an eyebrow. Zion chuckled and Nick jabbed the boy in the stomach. I giggled and the boy looked over at Nick.
“Stop staring at her with heart eyes and introduce yourself, you idiot.” The boy blushed and I laughed. I stepped closer so I could shake his hand.
“I-I’m Brandon Arreaga.” He mumbled and I rubbed his shoulder.
“Nice to meet you, Brandon.” I gave him a smile before stepping back over to my kit.
“Alright. I’ve got ideas for most of your looks but I need you guys to agree with them.” I said, jumping straight into work mode. I pointed at Edwin and held up a palette of paints that were safe for the skin.
“I was thinking about a full skeleton. Because for Austin I was thinking he would be a half skeleton.”
“Half skeleton?” Austin asked.
“Yea. Half of your face and neck would be like Edwin’s entire face and neck. Zion could be red like the devil, Nick’s a zombie and I’m not sure what I want to do B’s face yet.” I looked at all their faces.
“Sounds awesome!” Austin exclaimed and I smiled.
“Oh, and I’m going to need you all shirtless when I do your looks,” I said, not looking at them, digging through my kit to find the palette that had the pale greens, yellows, browns, and blues I would need to do Nick’s zombie look.
“Oh, saucy.” I rolled my eyes at Zion’s comment.
“I could care less about you guys being shirtless. I just figured you wouldn’t want your oh so expensive chains getting dirty.” I said mockingly. Austin and Edwin started laughing and slapped Zion’s shoulder.
“Bro you just got shot down!” Austin exclaimed through his giggles. I rolled my eyes but exclaimed happily when I found the palette I was looking for. I turned back around and crossed my arms.
“Who wants to go first? Edwin or Zion?”
“Why are they going first?” Austin asked, in a curious tone.
“I will need the most time to get their looks done. They have the most time-consuming looks because I have to make sure the colors will be built up enough so that no skin peeks through. Especially Edwin. Edwin! You’re first!” I called out to the Dominican that was now across the large room from Austin and I. He bounded over and I pointed at the chair I had in front of the mirror.
“Sit, please. And the shirt, chains, and anything else you don’t want getting dirty off please.” I said, getting all my brushes, sponges, and anything else I’d need together.
“Can I watch?” Austin asked timidly.
“Of course. Just sit there.” I pointed to another chair that was close but not close enough that he would be in my way when I moved around.
“So how long have you been a band?” I asked.
“About two years or so. It’s been so fun!” Austin said and Edwin nodded.
“Word of advice, I know we're going to be talking but you CAN’T move once I get started. I really don’t want to be 95% done then you talk or move and it gets messed up.” I told Edwin and he gave me a thumbs up. I pulled out a black eye pencil and sketched everything out on Edwin’s face. Once I was done sketching out the look I got to work with the black and white that his look consisted of. I spent the next hour painting Edwin’s face to perfection.
“Okay, and you are done!” I told Edwin, spraying his face with a bunch of setting spray.
“Aus, go get Zion please,” I said, not looking away from Edwin, making sure that I didn’t miss anything. I grinned and gave him a thumbs up.
“Yo! This is dope!!” Edwin exclaimed looking at his face.
“Don’t touch it either. Don’t need it smearing.” Edwin nodded and took his hands away from his face. Zion plopped down in the chair Edwin had vacated and I pulled out the reds and blacks I’d need.
“Same deal as Ed. Anything you don’t want dirty, take it off. I’m going to take the red down onto your shoulders so the look is continuous and doesn’t look like it just stops at your jaw.” I told Zion, turning to Austin.
“Where’s Brandon?” Austin shrugged.
“Ed! Where’s Brandon?” I yelled over to Edwin who was letting Nick take pictures of his look.
“Uhh, bathroom maybe?” He yelled back.
“Well, someone go find him! We still need to discuss what he wants!” Austin took off after I said that and I got to work on Zion.
“Tell me if you have an itch or anything, okay?” Zion nodded and I proceeded to turn him into a demon. Black around his eyes, lips, and around his face to make it look like he had a different bone structure and red as the base color. I was maybe 50% done with the red base when Brandon strolled over to us.
“Heard you wanted to talk to me?” I nodded and pointed to Austin’s chair.
“What do you want done to that face?” I asked, glancing over at him.
“Maybe a zombie like Nick?” He suggested. I nodded absentmindedly, already trying to envision what he was gonna look like once I was done with him.
“Yea that’ll work. Oh, and tell Nick he’s next after I finish with this one.” Brandon nodded and left the area. I finished Zion in about 50 minutes and set the look with setting spray.
“No touching, and tell me if you have an itch. I’ll get it so you don’t have to touch your face.” Zion nodded and got up.
“Jersey! You’re up!” Nick jogged over and I patted the chair. I was about halfway done when Nick spoke up.
“Ya know, Brandon’s got a crush on you right?” I raised an eyebrow.
“Oh really? And how exactly do you know that Nick?” I asked sarcastically.
“Because he never stares at someone like he’s been staring at you.” I jumped at Austin’s voice.
“Fucking hell man! Don’t do that!” I scolded, a hand over my heart that was beating very fast.
“Fuck, you’re so lucky that didn’t mess up Nick’s makeup. Or poke his damn eye out.” I muttered and went back to doing the red around Nick’s eyes. Another 30 minutes and Nick was done and the look was set with setting spray. He smiled at me and got up. I pointed to the chair Nick was just in.
“Sit down Porter. It’s your turn.” I said, turning to get the white and black and heard him taking his shirt off behind me along with his chains.
“Sal, do you have any chains?” Austin asked when I turned back around. I nodded.
“Yea my cousin Jefnier gets me chains all the time. And earrings. And rings. And overpriced clothing and shoes. I mean, I appreciate that he gets me the stuff. Though I wish he’d buy me stuff that’s more geared towards what I do.” I shrugged.
“Jefnier?” Austin asked, clueless to who I was talking about. I smiled.
“Lunay. Hey Siri, facetime 'idiota derrochador'.” I said and she did as I told her to. It rang a few times before Jefnier picked up.
“Hola primo! ¿Qué pasa?” He asked.
“No mucho. Este es Austin. Está en una banda estadounidense llamada PRETTYMUCH. Di hola.” I said and Jefnier smiled.
“Hey man,” Jefnier said and Austin’s eyes widened.
“He speaks English?”
“Yes, you fool. He’s been learning from me for years.” I flicked Austin’s head and he whined.
“¿Está tía contigo? Si es así, dile que digo hola! ¡Y que la quiero más que tú!” Jefnier rolled his eyes but laughed.
“Sí lo que sea. Oye, me tengo que ir. Te hablaré luego, ¿de acuerdo?”
“¡Adiós primo! ¡Te veré pronto!” I said before he hung up and I went back to sketching out Austin’s look.
“So, you’re basically going to have Edwin’s look but only on the right side of your face. And there’s going to be a ‘cut’ on your neck on the left side.” Austin nodded excitedly and sat still so I could get the paint on his face. I finished with him in around 45 minutes and set it so it wouldn’t smear.
“Alright mollete, you are done! Now onto amante.” I said and ushered Austin out of the seat.
“Amante! Come on over, you’re up!” I yelled and Brandon came over. Edwin burst out laughing since he knew what amante meant. I shot a smile at him and grabbed the pale green and brown.
“I’m going to make you the prettiest dead person ever amante,” I told him.
“What does amante mean?” Brandon asked. I smirked.
“You sure you wanna know amante?” He nodded.
“Loverboy. I think it’s cute, don’t you agree?” I grinned at the bright red blush that spread over Brandon’s face. I spread the green and brown mixture across his skin and added some red around his eyes.
“Now for the finishing touch.” I tilted Brandon’s face away from mine so I had access to his neck so I could create a fake cut on his neck with fake blood and the whole works. I had to get really close so I could make sure it went on properly and Brandon steadied me with hands on my hips when I stumbled a bit since Austin ‘accidentally’ ran into me trying to get by me. I finished up and glanced up at his eyes. I gave him a shy smile before stepping away and grabbing my setting spray. I sprayed a bunch of setting spray on his face and nodded.
“Don’t move just yet,” I added a bit of the green and brown on Brandon’s lips and grinned.
“There we go! Come on, I want a group picture and some individual photos of you all for my professional Instagram account.” I let Brandon up and he stood up and stretched. I turned my head away, knowing if I watched him any longer, I might just kiss him.
“So how long have you been doing makeup?” Austin asked once I had grabbed my camera so I could get good shots of the makeup.
“Around 13 or 14 years,” I told him, fiddling with the settings while the boys got dressed in their performance outfits.
“And you are how old again?” Edwin asked, strolling over to Austin and me, dressed and ready for his band’s performance.
“I’ll be nineteen on Halloween.” Austin’s jaw dropped.
“You’re only 18?!” I laughed and nodded then set my camera down.
“Yep!” Edwin had this nasty smirk on his face and I raised an eyebrow.
“I’m not sure I trust that face,” I whispered to Austin before backing up a bit. Edwin followed and I bolted away from Edwin.
“Get her!” Edwin yelled while running after me with the other four boys following his lead. I ran down the hallway and took the first turn I came to and looked for a place to hide. I noticed some speakers with a small opening that I could hide in and I dived into it. I shoved myself into the darkest corner and held my breath when I heard the five noisy boys come closer to where I was hiding. I put a hand over my mouth and tried to stay as still as possible until I heard them leave. I closed my eyes and breathed out while letting my shoulders sag.
“Hiding from someone sweetheart?” I jumped but didn’t scream when Brandon spoke.
“How the hell did you know I was in here?” I asked quietly.
“I saw you dive in here before the other four came around the corner. Let me guess, Edwin had this mischievous smirk on his face before you bolted?” He asked, crossing his arms and tilting his head. I nodded and he shook his head with a smile.
“Come on. Let’s get out of here so you can get your pictures.” Brandon held his hand out and I took it slowly. He proceeded to tug on my hand and I stumbled towards him.
“Piggyback ride?” He asked, looking down at me. I raised an eyebrow.
“You think you can carry me, noodle boy?” I questioned before Brandon smirked. He moved closer and threw me over his shoulder.
“What was that about me being a noodle boy sweetheart?” I huffed and started beating on his back.
“Put me down!” I yelled, kicking my legs around, hoping Brandon would put me down.
“Stop squirming sweetheart,” Brandon growled and I froze. Brandon chuckled before pulling me back over his shoulder and set me back down on my feet.
“Come on. I think those four idiots went this way.” Brandon said, walking down a random hallway.
“Nuh-uh. You can go find them. I’m going to go clean up and reorganize my kit so I don’t have to rush later.” I said, backing away from Brandon, hoping I wouldn’t be chased again. Brandon smirked.
“Alright then. Let's go.” He said, striding over to me and slinging an arm over my shoulders, dragging me back to the dressing room we were put in. We made quiet conversation on the way back to the room. Brandon opened the door for me and I smiled at him.
“Thanks, Brandon.” I smiled back.
“Can we do your individual pictures now?” I asked, once I had finished cleaning up my workspace and put everything away in my kit.
“Sure thing Salem. Come on, I saw a good spot for pictures while I was looking for the bathroom earlier. Ill text the guys to meet us there.” I nodded and grabbed my camera. Brandon threw his arm over my shoulder once again and led me from the room, taking me to the place that he had seen earlier. We got there five minutes later and the other four were waiting for us there. I was fiddling with the settings on my camera and walked straight into Brandon’s back when he stopped suddenly. He laughed and I rolled my eyes.
“Meanie,” I mumbled under my breath at him before walking around him.
“Okay, picture time then you guys will be ready to perform!” I said, holding up my camera. I spent the next half an hour shooting them before giving them all a smile.
“Thank you, guys, for being so patient. These look amazing.” I said, looking down at my camera and previewed the photos I had just taken of them.
“Happy to be of service Salem,” Austin said jokingly, bowing and everything. I laughed as the other four did the same. Out of nowhere a stage hand appeared and told the boys it was time to perform.
“Hey, come watch from side stage. It’ll be fun.” Brandon said and I shrugged.
“Okay. Just let me go put this back with my kit.” I said, motioning to my camera. He nodded and I went to put my camera back. I set it down and turned but jumped when I found how close Brandon was to me. He was staring down at me and I couldn’t find the willpower in myself to break the stare down.
“Wh-what are you doing?” I asked quietly, not moving an inch. He leaned down ever so slightly and I swallowed thickly. His lips quirked up just a tiny bit. I could hear voices from outside the room and I leaped away from Brandon and turned away from the door before Nick poked his head in.
“Come on B. We’re needed on stage.” He said before exiting the room. I took a deep breath and turned back around only to find Brandon with a smug smirk on his face.
“You coming?” He drawled slowly. I nodded and followed him out of the room, the heat in my cheeks not going away. I wandered along behind Brandon until we reached side stage. The blush had gone away a bit so it wasn’t as noticeable but Brandon still had that smug ass smirk on his face and it was annoying but insanely hot. They went onto the stage and got into position for when the song started. I could hear the hosts making PRETTYMUCH puns and I rolled my eyes. But the music started and I turned my focus onto the boys again. I was impressed by Brandon’s voice but practically started drooling when he started to hip thrust while dancing. They finished their performance and came backstage and I gave them a smile.
“So, how’d we do Miss Halloween?” Zion asked. I smiled and gave them a thumbs up.
“Really good! I loved it.” I told them. They thanked me and moved past me except for a certain gothic zombie.
“Who was your favorite sweetheart?” He asked in a low voice. I gulped and looked up at him, his frame towering over mine.
“Uhh…. Nick did really good.” I said quietly, backing up as Brandon started to take steps towards me. My back hit a wall and Brandon stepped close to my body.
“You sure he was the one you were drooling over sweetheart?” He asked condescendingly. My cheeks went red and I looked away from his burning gaze. He grabbed my chin and made me look back up at him.
“Aww, what’s the matter sweetheart? Are you blushing?” He asked with a smirk. My eyes flickered down to his lips and back up to his eyes quickly. He chuckled darkly and let go of my face and backed away from my body. He looked down at me and gave me a cheeky smile. A throat cleared and I looked away from Brandon and over to Zion who was leaning on a wall and smirking.
“Hate to break up whatever this is but the rest of us would like to take this makeup off.” His words cleared the haze that was clouding my mind and I frowned.
“You can’t take it off yet. You guys still have to walk the carpet of whatever they have for this thing in like an hour.” I told him and he groaned.
“Seriously?” I nodded and his shoulders sagged. I gave him a small smile as he left.
“Do you like IHOP?” My head whipped back to Brandon.
“What?” I tilted my head in confusion.
“Do you like IHOP?” He asked again.
“I mean, yea. Who doesn’t?” I said rhetorically.
“I’ll come get you after we walk the carpet and you get this makeup off of us.”
“Wait are you asking me out on a date?” I asked. He got closer again and leaned down so his face was near mine.
“Not so much asking sweetheart as I am telling.” He said lowly.
“Okay. Uh um, where should I wait?” I asked timidly.
“We don’t bite sweetheart. You can come hang with us in the room we were in before.” Brandon said, holding his hand out to me.
I like me better- Austin Porter
Warnings: cute shit
Theme: fluff
Summary: Austin really wants to travel the world with you, specially with your anniversary right around the corner, so he decided why not do both?
A/N: I had a dream about this but instead of Austin it was Edwin lol but I was like this fits Austin more so imma write about it lol, I hope it’s good and you enjoy!
Austin was laying in bed cuddling you wide awake, he couldn’t sleep he had to much on his mind. Thinking about you, the stress you were going through. He was thinking about himself and how can he better himself as a boyfriend for you. He just wanted to make you happy. He wanted to be your escape. Poking your nose softly he smiles at your frowns and groans. “Austin” you drag his name, Austin kisses all over your face “wake up bubs” he mumbles against your skin,even though you’re angry at him you turn over to face him.
“Okay you grabbed my attention, what you need?” Your hands fumbling through his hair.
“So I have a plan for us to do something spontaneous” Austin presses his nose against yours his lips pressed against yours making you smile into his embrace “are you ready?”
“I’m actually scared” you giggle,Austin gets out the bed grabbing the globe in his room, “so close your eyes and point” Austin says obeying his words I close you eyes hearing the sound of the earth spinning pointing your finger the globe stops. Opening your eyes your finger landed on ‘Italy’. “Now what?”
“We’re going to Italy” Austin answers your question. Grabbing his macbook he places it on his lap. Curling your eyebrows up you lay back against the headboard. Wondering if he’s serious or not., so you just lay your head on his chest hugging him
Four weeks later, Austin was in your shared room packing a suitcase, while yours was next to him, Austin knew you forgot all about the said conversation “what are you up too?” You ask leaning against the doorframe, Austin’s beaming at how beautiful you looked in his t-shirt. You walked over to him throwing your arms around his neck, his fingers sinking into your waist “you look beautiful” he mumbles, you scoff pressing your lips against his “I didn’t ask you that bubs” you speak hovering over his lips, while his eyes scan over every feature on your face admiring every tiny detail, from your eyelashes, to the tiny acne scars, even the way your pupil swims in love for him. His was swollen in admiration for you.
“I know, but that’s a secret” Austin answers, you pout at his answer, Austin knew how anxious secrets made you sometimes, specially if it was for you. Growing up sometimes secrets weren’t good. But they weren’t horrible either, just that mixture of yin and yang. “I promise this is a great surprise okay?, would never hurt you”
“I believe you” you pout feeling his fingertips slide up your warm back.
Austin tried his hardest for you to be unaware of where you guys were going, he covered your ears with headphones, covered your eyes, he wanted it to be a complete surprise. Austin even bought his camera to vlog everything. For memories and you asked could you edit it on post it on YouTube, making a deal he said; he had to post his favorite clips first. You were sleeping on Austin’s shoulders in the back of the cab, he couldn’t take his eyes off you, he couldn’t believe he was on a trip to his favorite place, with his favorite person. You guys were friends since highschool, and Austin started falling for you first, at times he held his tongue back.
Scared you weren’t into him, or when he started touring you would leave him, and honestly if you did he would’ve thought you deserved someone who was there with you twenty four seven. But then he realized, you loved having your alone time, just as much as you loved his company. So he ended up telling you in the most romantic way, he took you star gazing on top of the hills, you guys drove up there figuring out constellations. He couldn’t stop looking at the meteor shower in your eyes, the way he could hear his heart thumping in his ears, he knew he had to tell you.
It was like something out of a movie, because somehow after y’all kissed, it started raining. Both of you woke up semi-sick the next day, it was a day neither of y’all would forget.
“Babes, watch out for the wall” he giggled as you almost ran into the wall of the elevator, feeling around with your left hand you step into the elevator. “This is anxiety, what if I fucking fall and bust my lip”
Austin laughs at your remarks landing soft wet kisses on your neck, you stifle back a moan giggling instead “no, don’t do that now” you say dragging the “o” in “no” Austin softly kisses your shoulder before leaving your frame
“I won’t let you fall, I’m the one guiding you”
“Oh it’s not you I don’t trust, I don’t trust my two left feet” smiling he remembered the time he tried to teach you how to dance, you accidentally tripped over your other foot, you body didn’t hit the floor but it kinda scared you ever since.
Opening the door, Austin helps you in closing the door and setting the luggage by the the coffee table, holding your hand he walks in the room, smiling at how it was decorated. “What am I stepping on?” You squelch, “are you ready to see?”
“Yes” you squeeze his hand excitedly, austin pulled off the bandana, you smiled at the sight of rose petals on the floor, and a self care basket in the bed, along with a bottle of wine. You jump in his arms with his fingers patched under your thighs, the tender kisses transforming into a passionate makeout. “I love you”
“I love you more”
Later at night Austin took you out for a boat ride, he wasn’t even paying attention to the scenery cause all he was looking at was you, looking at the promise ring glittering on your finger, you guys made it to the hotel room where he couldn’t take it anymore and pinned you up against the wall, his hands sliding up your silk red dress. His lips passionately kissing you, both of your bodies rising in temperature, your hands fumble through his hair, he lifts you up, walking towards the bedroom.
Laying you down on the bed you spread your legs open while he kisses your inner thigh “happy anniversary” his smirk dancing across your skin.
painted bodies
little disclaimer: i no longer write or support p*, but this has been sitting in my drafts for two months and it’s nameless. this can be for whoever you want it to be.
a/n: a nameless (austin) piece done in the spur of the moment
synopsis: a painter and his muse.
warnings: none
word count: circa 910
•••
the distant tick of her wall clock was the only sound to fill the empty silence he’d been laying in for hours. to his left laid his world. her body wrapped and fitted around her duvet, her painted skin catching the silver moonlight each time she moved.
sleep had consumed her hours ago. his hand in her hair and his deep voice singing aimlessly made her eyelids droopy. she’d surrendered to the heavy feeling only after she whispered his name, telling him she loved him.
sleep had yet to find him. it seemed the sandman had not sensed his presence in an apartment that he was a stranger to. did golden sand circle his bedroom across town, he wondered. was there a dream out there lost to him?
it wasn’t that he didn’t want to sleep, it was more that his mind was alive with queries about the night they had shared. he’d come over with the intent to paint, his easel and canvas still standing to the side waiting to be dressed. the thought was lost the moment he stepped into her room. a confession of love, of admiration brought them together in the holiest of ways.
she was heaven-sent. he’d known it from the minute he’d laid eyes on her but now he knew it more than ever. he counted her in his blessing each night, thanking the forces of the universe for bringing her to him when he needed her the most. it wasn’t such a bad thing to have an angel as a distraction from your life's passion.
his decision to slip out of bed came after an hours-long debate that took place in his head. the warmth and loose extension in his shoulders was a feeling he knew he had to exploit. the moonlight that lit her room through half-closed curtains encouraged him. he could see enough, even if it was only a little.
quietly, he fetched what he needed from the bag he’d brought with him and perched himself at his easel. from there, he could see her perfectly in her bed. the plants that stood behind her brought his ideas to life.
he got lost in the thought of her as he placed and manipulated various colours until she was recreated on his canvas. one would never know but he could see it. the colours of her soul were easy to replicate as was her smile and the natural shape of her hips.
he compared her to aphrodite. she was his ideal beauty, a golden goddess who spoke like an angel and guided him in the right direction. his safety, his home, his love, his muse. the realist to his dreamer. her rightful place was on a lotus throne and he wished he could gift her one.
the concept of time was long forgotten when the first signs of morning life crept in through the windows. the wooden floors became amber under the early sun’s kisses. the beginning of the morning rush and birds chirping pulled him out of his far away world.
his phone told him it was just past six, meaning he’d been painting for close to three hours. he added one last touch before he stepped back, his eyes scanning over the masterpiece he’d created. he felt content.
she woke up some time later to an empty room. his scent lingered but her heart hurt at the thought that he had left her alone. her head hit the pillow again, her hands covering her face from the bright lights of the day.
the thought of him made her smile like a snowman. an old soul in a 22 year-old painter's body. her dreamer, her light, her love, her warmth. never had she thought she could love someone the way she loved him. in the words of a wise fellow, some people are worth melting for.
“you’re awake.”
he smiled from the doorframe, two coffee mugs in hand. she smiled with a nod of her head.
“only just.”
only as he moved to sit on the bed beside her did she take notice of the art that covered what had once been a blank canvas. she gasped at the sight of it, her hand reaching for the parts of her that were obvious. the most prominent one being the matching flower tattoo that covered most of her left thigh.
“what do you think?”
his hesitant and unsure feelings were demolished when she grinned at him. her eyes lined with tears.
“i think the way you see the world is beautiful. and i’m so honoured to be a part of it.”
he bowed his head to her and she copied his actions. what went unspoken was no mystery. whispers of ‘i love you’ danced through the air accompanied by chimes and taps of the promise of forever.
she brought him back to bed with no more than a promise of a cuddle. he was asleep on her chest in no time. while he lightly snored, she pondered over his painting. he captured her in a way she could never see herself. did she do the same for him?
with their painted bodies tangled in one another, a peaceful slumber floated over them like a rain cloud hiding the sun. they’d be brought back to full health by the time they were to awaken. but for the time being, the golden dreams that had been lost all night had found their rightful owner.
ex | n.m imagine
author’s note: ok so this imagine is based on the song ex by Kiana; I know she didn’t meant the same thing as in the imagine when she wrote the song but I think it fits with how I turned it. I really would like to get feedbacks on this one... Anyway hope you all will like it as much as I like writing it xo
We went from 2 AM calls to zero communication, yeah We spent too long in heaven that we felt the elevation Just 'cause it's different and we're not the same Doesn't mean things have to change I got no trouble with my pride, got trouble cutting ties
It’s been two weeks. Two weeks that you had last seen Nick. Two weeks that felt like forever. When you’re 24/7 with someone and overnight you all stop hanging out or any form of communication, it’s super strange. You still wasn’t ok with how Nick cut ties with you. The first week you thought he was just busy with his career. Something you could totally understand since it was taking 75 percents of his time. So you went with it. But his silence started to drag on. You reached to your mutual friends and realize he just cut you off. Even them were shook and didn’t understand why he suddenly stop talking to you. You guys were known for being a whole duo, no one could think of Nick without thinking of you and vice versa. Obviously it went from all your friends and family to even his fandom. You couldn’t pass a day without seeing an edit about your relationship. You didn’t mind at all. It was cute seeing condensed moments of your relationship in different way everyday. Well, at least before he started to ignore you. Because with Nick it felt like you had found your twin brother, your best friend, your soulmate. You guys had known each other for only a year but you looked like you had grown up together. And now you just felt lonely and missed what you had. He definitely knew you by heart and you thought you did too with him but apparently you didn’t knew everything.
You weren’t the type to put your pride aside but for this relationship you would. Texting someone this much with no answer as you did for Nick was something unusual for you. You’re ok with double texting but what you did was way over double texting. You tried calling him, a lot, but he never answered. Even Zion, one of Nick’s best friend helped you with it. He didn’t understand why Nick cut you off since he wouldn’t tell anyone but the dreadhead boy knew his friends was hurt about this situation and wanted to help has he could. He arranged meet up with you and Nick but Nick always found a way to ditch them.
I don't wanna be your ex, we're way too good at being friends Can we still hangout on the low, get wild? I don't wanna be your, I don't wanna be your Hit your girl up with a text when you're alone and feeling stressed I don't gotta be in love with you to love you I don't wanna be your, so don't treat me like your ex
One months and still no text, call or even sights of Nick. You hadn’t been in touch with him for one months. Now it felt like everyone around you knew what was happening except you. You didn’t know what to do to just have a 5 minutes talk with the boy. You just wanted to know what happened and maybe that would help you to move on. Zion had told you previously that him and the other prettymuch members were throwing a house party and that Nick would be there. Zion told you that he didn’t tell Nick that you would come so the boy wouldn’t end up finding a way to avoid you again.
When you arrived at the party, the house was filled of people. You recognize some faces you usually see at parties but made your way to the kitchen where you knew you’d find some of your friends including Zion. And you were right, the boy directly greet you in his harms when he saw you. Telling you by the same occasion that Nick went upstairs not even two minutes before you arrived. So you decide to follow up to the boy and go upstairs knowing that he probably went to his room.
Arriving in front of his room door you took a deep breathe before knocking. When you heard him ask for who it was you just didn’t answer knowing he wouldn’t allow you in and waited for him to come up to the door. The boy was chocked when he saw you. He never thought it would have been you behind the door.
“What are you doing here y/n” He said ready to close the door on you.
“Can I get in? I need to talk to you?”
He rolled his eyes opening the door a little bit wider to let you in. He closed the door behind you while you went to sit on his bed. You weren’t recognizing your friend. He was cold, was barely looking at you and you knew very well that he let you in only cause he knew you wouldn’t give up. But you really needed to know. You let him the time to close the door so you two could hear you better and popped up the questions that had been keeping you awake at night for almost a month.
“Why are you ignoring me? Did I do something wrong? Did I say something wrong? I really don’t understand why you cut things of like that… Like if I did something why not tell me so I can change things or so we can talk things out… Like Nick for real I don’t know why you’re acting like that…”
“So you really dont see it hun… You don’t see that I can’t take it when you hang out with other boys? When they hug you? When they make you smile or laugh? You can’t see that I hate when you tell me about your latest hook up stories.. When you ask me advice about your latest crush? How can you be so blind to not understand that I don’t want us to stay the way we are?”
You hadn’t seen it coming. You had thought about your feelings toward him multiple times before but always came to the conclusion that you two were just friends and nothing else. So you put those feelings on the side to concentrate on your friendship with Nick that kinda made them disappeared.
“I don’t wanna end up being that girl that you hit up just because you’re lonely and you need to get laid Nick… I don’t feel like right now is the right time for us to be more than friends... I just don’t wanna loose what we were…”
Nick was sitting on the other side of his room and hadn’t look at you the whole time. He was avoiding your glaze the best he could by looking at his feet or by the window, broadly anywhere but at you. You really didn’t know how to handle the situation but what you knew is that you couldn’t continue without Nick in your life.
“For now can you stop pretending like we strangers? So we can go back to how it was and see where it takes us? » Nick finally laid his eyes on you for you to offer him a shy smile. « I’m not saying that we’ll for sure end up together but at least we can try to make this work…”
How you met (Prettymuch preference)
Brandon
Streams of sunlight tumbled into the cafe, filling it with warm, sugary light. The smell of citrus swept through the room, whirling around those who paid it any mind. Following it was the scent of chocolate, sweet and tantalizing. The two danced together to the beat of the traffic outside your little haven.
You sit in the corner of the cafe, your novel sheltering you from the noise of the world. Engrossed in the book, “The Great Gatsby”, it was your third time reading it. You’re chewing fervently at her bottom lip. The chocolate piece of skin damp as your tongue swiped over it every few minutes. Your glasses lie on your nose, framing your face, and behind them chocolate eyes skimmed over the page you are reading.
In walks a man, caramel latte coloured skin. His hair, dark and lustrous, had sheen like fine hardwood. The comparison Celeste came up with is not entirely fair, she realises. Hardwood does not swish gently as the wind caresses it like his hair does. A shiny varnish catches merely light around it, but the depths of that deep chestnut brown reflected all the radiance of his smile.
He was smiling at you.
The moment you come to this realisation you looks back at your hot chocolate, the swirls of foam enticing you as you try to distract yourself from your fluttering stomach. Your head is buzzing. He probably wasn’t even looking at you, right? Why would he? Was there something on your cheek? Maybe your bun had loosened. She raises her arms and checks to see if each braid is in place and they all are. Why are you even worrying? The likelihood of you seeing him again is slim to none. You take a sip of your hot chocolate, set the mug down and continue reading.
“That’s a great book. I’ve read it a few times myself,” a voice says. You look up and it belongs to the gorgeous stranger who is now standing in front of you.
“Oh, yeah. This is my fourth time reading it.”
“I’m Brandon.”
“Y/N.”
Edwin
The small room is full of dancers. Tall, short, thin, curvy. All of them are restless, not only are they wanting this job but also the ones who are hiring. Prettymuch is shooting a music video and they needed some female dancers. You stood in a corner, stretching trying to calm your raging nerves. Switching fluidly from one stretch to another and then stopping to adjust the number on your shirt.
“Alright, were going to have the following numbers come up and audition: 5, 9,3,17 and 20.”
You sigh as you hear your number get called out and begin to walk toward the man. You can feel your heartbeat slowly picking up with each step closer to the room. When you walk in you’re greeted by five beautiful boys, one catching your eye: Edwin.
“Each of you is going to be assigned a boy to dance with. We just want to see who is going to look good with whom for the visual purposes of the video. So, number 5 go to Brandon, nine go to Austin, three go to Zion, seventeen go to Nick and twenty make your way too Edwin.”
The moment you hear yours and his name you both look up and make up contact, a smile creeping onto Edwin’s face.
“Guess we’re together then,” he says. His arm works its way behind you and onto the small of your back, leading you to where the two of you would work together.
Already knowing the routine, you all wait for the music to start so you can dance together. Once the beat spills out of the speakers you turn to face Edwin, holding his gaze as you move closer to him and begin to dance. This is an RnB record so the dance moves are slow and sultry. Your bodies press up against each other as you move to the beat and feel not only the rhythm but each other as well.
The music winds down and you finish the routine facing one another, bodied pressed together with your chest on his. You’re both breathing heavily as the music dies down. He holds your gaze, fingers slowly trailing up and down your back.
Claps from the others in the room sound and break you out of your trance.
“You know my name; do I have the pleasure of knowing yours?” He says as he slowly lets you go.
“Y/N.”
Austin
The whir of the needle rang through the room as you sat on the chair. You’re increasing the tattoo collection you have. You have a few scattered all over your body and have now added one to your back. It went down your spine, little flowers and vines worked their way up and down your spine almost like grape vine. You had even made sure to wear a backless top, because you knew you would be proud of the new art on your body.
“Alright I think I’m done. It’s wrapped and ready to go. Just make sure you pay on your way out. Thanks for coming,” the tattoo artist said as you both stood. You thanked him and made your way to the entrance. It was full considering it was a Saturday and this was a popular spot in your city so to keep yourself occupied you went and stoop by a mirror, back turned to it so you could admire it.
The door bell rings, and two guys walk in: one is tall with a caramel tone and dreadlocks and the other catches your eye, tall, blonde and beautiful. The blonde Adonis makes eye contact with you through the mirror and holds your gaze as he walks. He tears his gaze away from you and goes to set an the reception.
For a moment, you’re confused. Do you want to go and get a closer look at him or should you just leave it because you probably won’t see him again? He’s too beautiful to be common so what would you gain. Fuck it. You get up and walk toward the reception desk, you had to pay for your tattoo anyways. This was a win-win situation: you get to pay for your tattoo and see the gorgeous man. Standing on his left side you opt to observe and not speak to him.
“Your tattoo is cool,” a smooth voice says to you and you connect the dots and figure out who it’s owner is.
“Yeah? Thanks. Hurt like a bitch cause it’s on my spine but, hey, beauty is pain right?”
“Well I’m sure you know nothing about that, you’re naturally beautiful. I’m Austin, nice to meet you…”
“Y/N.”
Nick
The room buzzed with excitement as you and twenty other girls waited for the Prettymuch boys to make an appearance. You were at a special event, an exclusive listening party for an EP they were working on.
Not to sound like a wattpad cliché but you did want to get the attention of your favourite member; Nick. With this in mind you made sure you looked your best. You’re wearing a black body con dress that was just above the knees and a pair of sneakers. Simple but you hoped it would get his attention. That and the fact that you bathed in a Victoria’s Secret perfume so you smelt of flowers and seduction.
The door creeks open, silencing the conversations that had started amongst you and the others and you all turn your heads towards it. Edwin walks in first, followed by Zion, Nick, Austin and finally Brandon.
“Hey guys. Thank you all so much for coming today. We really appreciate all the love and support you’ve given us over the last few years and we really hope you like what we’ve got to share with you today,” Brandon says.
“Yeah so before that happens we’re just going to walk around and mingle. It would be wrong not to get to know all the beautiful ladies in the room,” Zion says.
Through all the talking, you have your eyes focused on Nick and you’re silently begging him to look up and look your way. Just as you’re about to give up, he does. You feel electricity jolt through your body as he looks at you with a soft smile playing on his face.
The guys disperse and make their way to little groups to talk to some people. Nick goes to one on the other side of the room and you feel your heart sink. It may irrational but you thought you felt something. Austin comes to your group and you guys talk about yourselves, him, their music, music in general and just any topic he and you all could squeeze in.
Thirty minutes pass and you take yourself away from the crowd, there’s only so much socialising you can handle before you need to pull away for a little bit. You go grab a bottle of water from the table of snacks they had set up.
“Is there a reason you’re alone and not with a group or something,” someone says softly. You know this voice.
You look up and you see Nick. Standing in front of you. Nick Mara. He is standing in front of you.
“I-I just needed a little break that’s all.”
“I feel that, talking to people just gets a bit much sometimes. Mind if I wind down with you?” He says still holding your gZe and making your stomach flutter. You feel your face starting to warm up.
“No. No as in I don’t mind not no you can’t chill with me. This is your event. You can be wherever you want. I’m going to stop talking now,”
“I think it’s only fitting that I know your name before we spend the next five minutes together, don’t you think?”
“Yeah. Um, it’s Y/N.”
Zion
Music pumped the the speakers, it’s best coursing through your veins and elating you more. The red cup in your hand filled with a liquid, you weren’t sure what it was but it tasted good and you’d poured it yourself so there was nothing to worry about. Having empties your first cup, you walked over to the kitchen to get yourself a refill. It was your best friend’s birthday and you were single. This was the perfect concoction for you too hook up with someone.
In the kitchen you swayed to the music as you poured your drink. After you poured it you stood for a moment to catch your breath before going back out into the thick and lively atmosphere that was outside the kitchen. Sort of rebooting your system. You stood and took a sip of your drink, observing people as they walked and talked.
A group walked into the kitchen, led by a the most beautiful man you’d ever seen. He exuded confidence as he walked, leading the conversation he and his friends were having. A smirk sat on his face as he skimmed the room, eyes landing on you. Suddenly you felt sober and began to fidget with the dress you had on. Even with the liquid encouragement you couldn’t hold his gaze.
You kept your head low and looked at the contents of your cup like they were a painting of a Greek God, intricate and delicate. This doesn’t happen to you, you’re confident and upfront so what the hell was happening?
“People don’t normally come to parties to stand in corners alone ma,” a voice said, husky and low. You could feel his warm breath on your neck and his sent worked its way around you. You didn’t have to look up to know it was the beautiful boy.
“I just needed a little break that’s all.”
“Well if you’re done with your little break, how about we go dance? I have a feeling you and me are going to get along great out there mamas. What do you say?”
He inches closer, hand taking the drink that was in your hands and setting it on the counter top. He joins your hands and takes a cautious step forward, looking at you for approval to proceed.
“Yeah sure, let’s go dance.”
“I’m Zion,” he says, coming close to you again. Now on the dance floor you feel he’s front on your back as he starts to move to the beat of the song: Body Party by Ciara.
“Y/N,” you shout over the noise and begin to work your magic with your waist.
