Áusōs
Or as I write it, Áusos. Also found as Háusos, Héusos (with a hard h as in the ch in loch) or H₂éwsōs. Her name means "the Dawn" or "Rising"
Aúsos is the goddess of the dawn. She also reigns over light, youth and spring. She is characterized as a beautiful maiden who dances freely through the heavens. She is a bringer of light as she brings the day with her and paves the path of the sun. She seems to have been the most important goddess to the Proto Indo-Europeans
Áusos is also related to sexuality and love, sometimes ill-fated. She has a myth in which she falls in love with a mortal, Ausiwendhós, of whom she procures eternal life. Yet he forgot to ask eternal youth for him, so he ends up withering into old age as the dawn goddess takes her leave, broken-hearted.
Áusos is also a goddess of love and sexuality. There is however a Proto Indo-European love goddess, so love isn't Áusos' main domain, even tho she has a big role in it.
The archetype of the maiden fits her well
She is sometimes said to dwell in an western land at the edge of the world, a paradise called Usés Mág̑hās
She is also called Diwós Dhugətḗr, "Daughter of Dyéus" and Bhṛg̑héntī, "Exalted"

Finally, here's her wikipedia article
Also, fun fact! It is speculated that Aphrodite absorbed some of the aspects of Áusos (especially those related to love and sexuality), so she's also a descendant of her in a way. These aspects then got lost from her direct descendant in greek mythology, Eos.

Yesterday I went and passed the whole evening reading about @skyscrapergods 's my little pony au, the existential dread giant gods really got me.
In particular this post about the two sis got me thinking about their relationship, how gods perceive emotions and about the fact that these two have basically forgot about how they used to interact. And idk probably it has already been done but I thought, what if after all this time, their paths begin to cross?
#I don't know if it'd be a casualty that the ways the astral bodies have to go throught at a certain point pass near each other#or perphas the day and night ... strangely gets altered a little?#like the sun is a lil too much on the left and the moon sets a lil too early?#idk I really liked the idea of eclipse being the two goddesses keeping up with each other#obviously in a divine way mortals can't comprend#maybe in general when the big girls interact something special and magical in the world happens?#I love this auso much please keep it up#mlp#princess celestia#princess luna#alicorn#sorry if their designs are not too accurate I sketched this by memory half asleep in bed at 1am#m-bj art

WHY DO YOU KEEP GIVING ENERGY to #HolyDays that are NOT YOURS! EÁSTRE was an ANGLO-SAXON GODDESS of the dawn. IN MYTH, Eastre is said to have AMUSED CHILDREN by turning her BIRD into a RABBIT; the RABBIT thenTHEN LAID colored eggs much to the delight of the children. Easter has NOTHING to do with the Resurrection of Jesus except that eggs are SYMBOLIC of life and Resurrection is SYMBOLIC of life. ~ William Huff So HOW is it that one of the two major CHRISTIAN HOLIDAYS was named by ANGLO SAXONS after a "pagan deity"? And HOW is it that THIS NAME was not only TOLERATED, but eventually became its NORMATIVE MONIKER throughout the English-speaking WORLD? According to the 1835 “Deutsche Mythologie” by Jacob Grimm, “This Ostarâ, like the [Anglo-Saxon] Eástre, must in heathen religion have denoted a higher being, whose worship was so firmly rooted, that the CHRISTIAN teachers tolerated the name, and APPLIED IT to one of their OWN grandest anniversaries.” The Venerable Bede, (672-735 CE), a Christian scholar, first asserted in his book De Ratione Temporum that Easter was named after EOSTRE (a.k.a. Eastre). She was the Great Mother Goddess of the SAXON PEOPLE IN NORTHERN EUROPE. Similarly, the "Teutonic dawn goddess of fertility [was] KNOWN VARIOUSLY AS Ostare Ostara, Ostern, Eostra, Eostre, Eostur, Eastra, Eastur, AUSTRON and AUSOS." Her name was derived from the ANCIENT WORD FOR SPRING: "eastre." SIMILAR GODDESSES were known by OTHER NAMES in ancient cultures around the 'Mediterranean', and were celebrated in the springtime. Some were: 🌟Aphrodite, named Cytherea (Lady of Cythera) and Cypris (Lady of Cyprus) after the two places which claimed her birth 🌟Ashtoreth from ancient Israel 🌟Astarte from ancient Greece 🌟Demeter from Mycenae 🌟HATHOR from ancient Egypt 🌟Ishtar from Assyria 🌟Kali, from India; and 🌟Ostara a Norse Goddess of fertility. An ALTERNATIVE EXPLANATION has been suggested. The name given by the FRANKISH CHURCH to Jesus' resurrection festival included the LATIN WORD "alba" which means "white." (This was a reference to the white robes that were worn during the festival.) "Alba" also has a SECOND MEANING: "SUNRISE." When the name of the festival was TRANSLATED INTO GERMAN, the "sunrise" meaning was SELECTED IN ERROR. This became "OSTERN" in German. Ostern has been PROPOSED as the ORIGIN OF THE WORD "Easter". There are TWO POPULAR BELIEFS about the ORIGIN of the English word "SUNDAY." 🌟It is derived from the name of the Scandinavian sun Goddess SUNNA (a.k.a. Sunne, Frau Sonne). 🌟It is derived from "SOL," the Roman God of the Sun." Their phrase "Dies Solis" means "day of the Sun." The Christian saint Jerome (d. 420 CE) commented: "If it is called the day of the sun by the pagans, we willingly accept this name, for on this day the Light of the world arose, on this day the Sun of Justice shone forth."

Gaulish Gods and Their PIE Equivalents
Definite cognates:
(Note: many have attributes of other deities or have lost original attributes as is common with the passage of people and time. However, these are deities who I can confidently say descend directly from PIE source gods.)
Taranis- Storm/fertility god, *Perkwunos
Nantosuelta-Goddess of wide rivers, ect, *Pleto
Rosmerta- Goddess of grain, *Devi
Cernunnos-Psychopomp god of boundaries, ect, *Pauson
Dis Pater- First ancestor, residing in the Otherworld, *Yama
Artio- Bear, time, and natural order goddess, *Arta
Unclear:
Epona-Definite horse goddess, but is the horse goddess the same as the grain goddess or different?
Sirona- has both healing, spring, and Venus/Moon connotations. Probably a local goddess or an amalgamation
Sucellos- Has both underworld, prosperity, and boundry associations. Probably an amalgamation
Lugus- Unknown
Cathubouda- Unknown, though may have connections with death goddess
Missing PIE deities:
*Ausos- Dawn/Hearth goddess, though Brigantia may have some of her attributes
*Pria- "Garden" goddess of spring, romantic love, beauty, ect. Sirona may have some attributes
*Hepom Nepots- Freshwater, wells, and wisdom guardian god
