2023 reflection
I recently watched a video by Asia Jackson about keeping to your New Year’s resolutions, so I’ve decided that I was going to give it a go. I made a few resolutions last year and I would say that I mostly kept to them but as life got more stressful, I definitely fell off. I’ll first start by reviewing the year:
games finished Infinite Undiscovery (360) Suikoden II (PSOne Classic via PS3) start;again (Steam) Get in the Car, Loser! (itch) Breath of Fire II (NSWO) Ara Fell: Enhanced Edition (Steam) Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan (Steam) Suikoden (PS) Final Fantasy II Pixel Remaster (Steam)
highlights
visited Japan for the first time! Had an amazing time on our 11-day trip seeing Shibuya, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Awaji (and going to Dragon Quest Island and Naruto Park), Kyoto (getting my long awaited ear tattoo) and Chiba.
spent another year with my loving husband and kids.
spent time with my nephews.
kept with a pilates routine for a good 90% of the year.
went to EVO and got to see some friends from the FGC that I hadn’t seen since the pandemic began.
downsides
experienced intense workplace stress; the most in my 20yrs of employment in the job I’m at.
one of our family dogs, Vincent, passed away. he was 14yrs old and had prostate cancer. I still can’t look at photos/videos without crying.
our other family dog, Bernie, is experiencing a vast amount of health problems as he’s getting older.
not sticking to my 2023 Wishlist for games. (I’ll have a separate post about this next week)
had too much anxiety at EVO due to not really being in crowded spaces for such a long time.
while I think I experienced some things that will take a while to heal, I have learned that my pilates routine, reading and diamond “painting” has greatly helped keep my mind off of things. with this in mind, here’s some resolutions I hope to accomplish:
set a streaming goal for 400 followers. (currently at 323)
manage my Instagram to post once every two to three days, not including stories.
continue pilates three days a week.
read at least 15mins per day.
start drawing again, at least 15mins every other day.
travel out of state once this year.
reform shopping habits. (more in next week’s post)
eat less fast food.
quite dying my hair. I’ve been dye free for several months but I plan on growing it out completely. I’m just tired of hair dye and staining on furniture, sheets and towels.
with all of that, here's to a great 2024.

Aurion is an action RPG very much in the style of Dust: An Elysian Tail, developed by Kiro'o Games who are based in Cameroon. The game uses a beautiful 2D art style to bring to life the story of Enzo Kori-Odan and his wife Erine Evou the King and Queen of the country Zama. Who after a Coup d'état from Erine's own brother, find themselves exiled from their kingdom.

Hello everybody,
So I will explain (with a lots of pictures) how we evolved from a simple amateur project in 2003 to the professional video game Action-RPG that you may already know. It's a long journey, take popcorn to discover the path of the Wallbreakers.

My Favorite Games of 2016
Heyo folks, I figured since it’s that time of year and the website isn’t up yet (Some complications). I figured I’d share my favorite games that I got to try in 2016.
I didn’t get to play as many in the latter half of the year as I did in previous years but I did get to play quite a few games that I really enjoyed prior to that. The list is in no particular order like always. Also, links take you to their store pages on Steam.
1. Oxenfree This game was easily one of my favorite adventure games of the year even though it came out in January. The game featured an excellent cast of characters, a really interesting supernatural story and some great sound effects. It was a little on the short side but it was wholly worth the journey and I highly recommend it.
2. Masquerada: Songs and Shadows This game was a wholly enjoyable RPG with an very intriguing story and a great cast of characters. The combat system was a bit basic but this was a game you played for the story rather than gameplay. It also featured some of the best voice acting I’d heard this year. I also loved the fact that the characters gain their powers from venetian style masquerade masks.
3. Grim Dawn Grim Dawn is one of the best action RPG’s that I’ve played in quite some time and it’s one of my favorite co-op experiences that I’ve had all year. I’ve had a ton of fun playing this game with Negi and we’ll be playing it for quite some time further as well. It has a ton of loot, a dual class system and loads of enemies to slay along the way. The game starts off a bit slow I’ll admit and it’s a bit dull on single player but if you grab some friends you’ll have a blast.
4. Opus: The Day We Found Earth This game was one of the saddest games that I played this year and I’ll admit that I cried at the end of it. It’s a short journey where you control a child-like robot named Emeth as he search for a new home for humanity with the help of an AI. It featured some excellent artwork and a very large sense of wonder as you explored the galaxy with a telescope. If you love emotionally charged games and space, this is a game you should play.
5. Tyranny Out of all the RPG’s that I played this year, Tyranny stood out as the best one of the year for me. Tyranny was unique because it put you in control of the side of evil and it put you into many situations that makes you question your morality. It also made me realize that being evil is incredibly fun and that being good isn’t always the best option. It’s also had a crazy amount of choices that affected the outcome of the story in one way, shape or form. The reputation system was also quite impressive too and really added to the game experience. (Your standing with a faction or character affected the story and the choices you made impact it). Highly recommended.
6. The Last Door: Season 2 Pretty much anyone that really knows me knows that I absolutely love H.P. Lovecraft and his style of horror so when it came to reviewing this game, I already knew I’d love it. The Last Door series is a simple, pixelated horror adventure game and while it may not be 3D or very high quality art wise, it’s an incredibly well done homage to one of my favorite authors. It also takes inspiration from Edgar Allen Poe as well so you’re in for a double dose of awesome.
7. Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan Aurion was a surprise game for me going into it. It’s a side scrolling action RPG that takes a lot of inspiration from the classic Tales of series. It’s also based on African legends and myths which made it even more intriguing. I wasn’t very familiar with African mythology going into this game but I learned quite a bit by playing it. The combat system was also very fun and reminiscent of classic Tales of games and I found the story to be interesting too. Definitely worth checking out if you’ve never heard of it before.
8. Epistory: The Typing Chronicles Epistory is a typing game and it’s easily the best typing game that I’ve ever played. It features a beautiful game world, some intense typing based combat and some superb narration. You play as a little girl riding a fox as she explores the world to uncover its mysteries. As you walk around the story unfolds with narration and words on the world itself. I highly recommend it, even if you aren’t big on typing games, it’s incredibly fun.
9. Riptide GP: Renegade This game was one of the very few racing games that I got to play in 2016 but it was no slouch regardless. It’s heavily inspired by classic jet ski games like Wave Race but it has a ton of uniqueness to make it it’s own. It’s a futuristic jet ski racing game where you’re racing in an illegal racing circuit to get revenge on the person who got you sent you to prison. It features a story this time around, a crazy amount of courses/game modes and heavily improved visuals and controls over Riptide GP2 on PC.
Well folks, that about covers all the games that really stood out to me this year and true to our name, they’re all indie titles. I hope that you enjoyed my choices this year and it’s too bad I couldn’t post this on a new website but at least we could show you some interesting games here for now. Enjoy! Happy gaming folks! - Shaun Meyers (Kyo Akiara) out!

Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan
I’m so excited to have my good friend David over to start this new game with me!
Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan is a brawler-type 2D RPG that has staked its name in the genre of African Fantasy. We play as Enzo Kori-Odan, the young prince, newly wed and exiled from his kingdom. With Erine, Enzo’s wife, we’ll adventure and explore the planet of Auriona.
Developed by Cameroon-based team Kiro’o Games, Aurion was released in 2016. They aspire to create a full series of games “inspired by Africa with an inspiring narration,” and hope that Aurion won’t be their first and only game.
I don’t believe I’ve featured a 2D brawler on stream yet, so this is going to be lots of new and refreshing gameplay. This game looks like it lasts around 20 hours, so it’ll definitely be going for quite a few weeks, but the streams will likely be sporadic because of David’s availability. Still, I’m so grateful that he’ll be joining me, and I’ll be announcing when we stream Aurion in the future on my twitter account.
But to kick off the adventure with us, tune in Thursday 8/24 at 8:30p CST on Twitch.tv/imenvi0us

Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan RPG on Kickstarter
Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan is a 2D African-Fantasy Action RPG based on a frenetic and creative combat system. Cameroonian team Kiro’o Games have now turned to Kickstarter to fund the their culture and myths. Aurion offers hand-drawn and animated African-style graphics that tell a deep storyline that unfolds over more than 20 hours of action-packed gameplay, heavy with combat and combos. Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan seeks to innovate in the genre with dynamic gameplay with some inspiration taken from the ‘Tales of’ series. Focusing more on real-time combat sequences with narration and environment drawn from African culture, myths and lores.

The Prince of Zama called Enzo Kori-Odan was scheduled to marry his lifelong love Erine Evou, then be crowned as the new King. But Ngarba Evou, his new brother-in-law, is plotting to overthrow him. Through combo-heavy action sequences, Erine and Enzo set out to redefine their bond, saving the land from its villains to restore their legacy. Enzo can call on the Aurion, a powerful collective energy channelled from past ancestors, unlocking devastating fighting abilities to help beat these foes. A Windows PC demo was just released, for anyone seriously interested to get into some gameplay. Linux Game News has already reached out to Plug In Digital Label about Linux and Mac versions being included in the original funding goal. As we know many of our readers steer away from projects that do not include native support from the start. With 16 days to go, Kiro’o have pledges of €19,270 towards their €40,000 goal. Pledging at least €20 ($15) will get you a copy of the game on Steam once released, which is expected to be in April 2016. Planned stretch goals include Linux and Mac versions.
