YES thank you i also felt that lower hardness gems may also resonate w disability but i didn’t completely put it all together

i think it can even extend to how gems treat phos After they break, like it’s always just a pain for others to deal with, they get scolded by rutile, etc. i guess they care enough to keep putting them back together, but it’s treated as more of an inconvenience to everyone else and something that’s phos’ fault. which like yeah i guess they could be more careful, but at the same time so could everyone else. it feels a lot like how accommodations for disabled people are looked at as primarily inconveniences for abled people, and not, yknow, necessary things for disabled people to function and sometimes even live

thinking about how phos primarily befriended low level gems at the beginning … their connections with cinnabar and antarc felt deeper and closer because they were other low hardness gems . it feels like growing up queer and finally meeting another queer person and having a connection just through that shared experience. low level gems aren’t exactly discriminated against but they do operate at a much larger disadvantage than the higher level gems

if you’re a low hardness gem you can’t do things the other gems can, or if you do (like fight) you have to be careful, or do it in a way the others don’t (using an alloy as a shield and weapon). you have to be more vigilant about your own body and safety than the other gems do and it’s something they wouldn’t understand

at the same time, dia is the only higher level gem that cares about phos pre winter. and i think its bc they also feel “othered” in a way. they’re already under so much pressure to be just like bort, and diamonds are expected to be the best. it’s the same way that like, even if you have certain privileges that certainly give you a leg up in life, they can still come with their own problems
